Went into great depth in every topic and try to teach us to understand the material rather than just memorize formulas to pass the test. I feel like I am a better math student as a result of taking his class.

Mr. Sourile is a passionate and knowledge instructor who has patience with those that struggle with the material but does not let the more advanced students get bored. A good balance. The course is based on the book along with supplemental information that helps better understand. Really enjoyed his teaching style. Would recommend!

I graduated from HS in South America and my math teacher was amazing. I thought it would be hard to find someone as interested in math as him, but Mr Sourile takes his classes to another level! I had Professor Sourile for a 6-week summer class and honestly it passed by so quickly! He teaches a little fast though. He is very clear on what he expects from you. Lecture heavy class and met once a week so it was a chapter a day and then the following week would be the quiz with a lecture following. It was time-consuming but nothing too extreme. Lots of homework. He does give many opportunities for you to get your grade up though. I'd take him again.

MrSourile is an AMAZING math teacher he explains things very clearly & follows his syllabus through the whole semester. All the homework is directly what will be tested on exams. So coming to class & doing homework will guarantee you to pass. He cares a lot about students doing well & will work accordingly with how the class is doing.

This is my second time taking stats and I am glad I gave it a second shot, I love how there is HW we can turn in for a grade and how he makes very detailed notes which later uploads on I-campus, he also explains everything very thoroughly and clearly

He is very good when it comes to talking to the class, as he has a good personality. It was his first time teaching MATH 128 so it was a little bumpy at times when it came to the notes. Although, if you come to class he will correct the mistakes so it is vital that you show up to get those adjustments and to understand the material.

Great math professor

I usually am horrible at math, but he explained it in a way that makes sense, as well as had notes that included plenty of practice problems.

Mr Sourlie is really good at explaining problems in depth. Although Trig is a tough subject especially over summer and if you struggle with math definetly take during a normal semester. A good amount of homework that is graded, tests are tough and no extra credit opportunities. Overall a pretty good teacher, better than most at JJC.

Hes honestly the best math professor Ive ever had. Wish I could have had him for Math 138. He tries his best to not overload you on homework and the lectures are easy to follow. Im not great at math but his way of teaching helped a ton. Highly recommend.

Pretty straight forward guy, he explains things the best way he can and often gives tips on how he remembers certain equations/way to do math problems which is really helpful. He will only make you memorize what he knows/feel you will use in future math classes so you dont feel like your wasting your time on things you shouldnt be.

Professor Sourile is one of my favorites at JJC so far. I liked how after every lecture he saves his notes and posts them on canvas to look back later. He isn't available outside of class as much, but you can ask him questions via remind/email and he responds quick. This class had some material that was difficult, but he had no problem explaining.

The lecture based math class was a lot of listening. The best part of the class is that he carefully goes over each and every step. It is a lot easier to learn and he also answers any question along the way. His grading for homework is completion but he does look it over to make sure its done. The tests are easy if you look over the notes.

Unfortunately, this class was moved from a classroom setting to an online course due to Covid-19 but the resources need where given and help was always there also when needed. I believe it would been better if the videos given were made by him instead of someone else since his lectures were always clear and helpful.

I took a hybrid class over the summer with Mr. Sourile and he was great! His grading criteria was straightforward, he gave out helpful tips and explanations during the in class sessions, quizzes weren't too hard and gave out a manageable amount of homework to prepare you for each chapter test. He cares about you as a person in addition to the education aspect. Hadn't taken in person classes in 2 years because of covid, and failed Calculus right before it started. I went into this class very nervous, but after a unit or two felt completely reengaged with math and school because Prof Sourile teaches it so incredibly well. Prof Sourile (pronounced "sir L", if you were wondering) is a really great teacher. At the beginning of the semester, I truly hated math, but he changed the way that I think about it. Instead of memorizing a bunch of formulas, he wants you to understand the WHY in math, which helps a TON. If you have the chance, I HIGHLY recommend taking his class!

I was traumatized after taking Calc 2 with a different prof, so I was 100% expecting to hate Calc 3, but I loved this class. He was very engaging, and genuinely cared about helping each student. He also gave us printed out notes packets for each chapter, and he went through them during class (not just reading the notes aloud, actually discussed it)

Unlike many calculus professors, Sourile really cared about the students succeeding. He did everything possible to make sure you understood things and everything he tested you on he made sure it was something you have learned before. No surprises.

Professor Sourile has been one of the best Calculus professors I have had. He took the complex ideas of Calc III and broke them down into simpler terms for the class's understanding. His grading is fair and partial credit is given even if the answer is wrong. Overall, take his class he is awesome.

Still taking the class, but he's organized the online course exceptionally well. Prof. Sourile promptly answers emails, and he is very transparent and clear about pacing the online class. He communicates AT LEAST once a week to the class, and he gives very good previews of the next content. Also a very fair grader. Hoping to continue this pace.

This class is very well run. We use Professor Leonard youtube videos for notes and these videos explain concepts very well. The homeworks and exams correlate to the videos extremely well and the exams and homeworks are very manageable. The professor was very helpful online and everything was very clear. Although this was a hybrid class and a lot of the learning was on your own, he explained everything in detail during class lectures. I am not good at math by any means, but he made this class very doable for people like me who don't like math! 1000/10!

This professor is the best. I had him for calculus 3 and I got an A with no problem. He offers extra credit. His tests are fair. He is very through and helps anyone who is having an issue. I would take him again and recommend him. He is very funny.

Professor sourile was absolutely phenomenal. He teaches a hard class and he makes it so fun and so easy to learn. His lectures are amazing and he makes everything easier than it seems. The cengage homework is always harder than the actual coursework. Show up, pay attention, and have a good time. He's there to help and he is so supportive and funny

If calc there is necessary, this is your absolute best choice

I had him for Calc 3, and he is one of the best professors here. He teaches a very hard class, but his lectures are very easy to follow. The homework is a little hard because they go more in depth than what we go through in class, but it is manageable. The tests are always something that we have learned in class. He is also very willing to help.

I had found the content to be difficult but with the assistance given to me by Prof. Sourile it was able to help keep me on track. His use of a booklet was also very nice and helped to keep me engaged with the course. This also helped to keep my notes in check too. He always responds quickly to questions and was very helpful during office hours.

Caring Proff making concepts easy to learn. We had two weeks to complete homework assignments, sometimes covering two chapters in that period but, the length of the work was consistent. Additionally, during test weeks, one project was due, which helped keep my grade up since the projects were not that difficult. I really recommend Proff Sourile.

Prof. Sourile makes a tough class manageable. His lectures are clear, and he's always willing to help during office hours. Attendance is mandatory, but it pays off. I found Unstuck AI and the free textbook helpful for study prep.

This is the professor I would want in any of my math courses. He genuinely cares about his students and understands when things come up. Always giving different perspectives to problems if you can't see the answer. If I had him when I first started here, I would have gotten all As.

After taking a few precalc courses at JJC, I can say that he is the best professor in the math department. I took a hybrid version of the class, but when we did meet in person he dedicated the period to making sure we understood every part of the subject. Compared to other professors who get upset when you ask a question, Sourile is great.

He definitely has a passion for math and teaching and it shows. He was very good at explaining concepts in ways that were easy to understand. Grading is fair and he is overall just very understanding.

Professor Sourile is an amazing teacher, he explains difficult topics clearly and responds to questions in a timely manner outside of class. never gave any quizzes in class, homework was only done in MyMathLab. For a few tests he provided sheet of equations. For the final, he allowed students to bring their own cheat sheet. Definitely recommend!!

Professional, helpful, personable, dedicated. He truly cares for the success of his students and I've found to always be very clear and fair on what is on the test and how he grades it. He more than prepares you for tests and gives out clear notes to follow along with to prepare.

I think he has the best math notes out of any math teacher at JJC that I've had so far. Easy to understand and has an agenda everyday. Very passionate about math. His explanations for your extra questions are always very clear.

Overall a great professor. The class is well organized, especially with the notes he provides for everyone. He breaks every topic down to ensure students understand what is going on. He is one of the best math teachers I've had for calculus. I highly recommend taking your math classes with him!

He allows a notecard for tests and a page of notes for the final. You'll use desmos 3d for one test and the final. Homework is all online and doesn't always match up 100% with material in class. Tests are based on class material. Grades are weighted heavily towards tests.

The tests are nearly exactly like the lectures, focus more on lectures than the online homework.

Overall he is a good professor, I had him for a hybrid class and other than the outline we follow being bad due to us needing to be a week ahead on the week of the test. One issue I had with the professor is that he does not know what is on his own homework or tests when asked. Good at lecturing.

He is very good at what he does and wants you to pass. If you participate and ask questions you will be fine. The tests were only 50 minutes which seemed rushed to me but overall recommend his class.

Solid but hybrid course is hard to learn from

It is a difficult class, but not because of the professor. He is funny, very helpful, and is PASSIONATE about the subject he teaches. That's not something you come across a lot these days from my experience. He lets you know what will be on the exam, and grades very fair. In class assignments were helpful!! (Class was hybird)

A very sharp professor that knows the ins and outs of the subject at hand. Super laid back.

Good professor. He explains concepts on the whiteboard pretty clearly and presents students with useful (but challenging) practice worksheets. Due to the nature of a hybrid couse, he does not have a lot of control with the video lectures, but class time makes up for it mostly.

Pretty good teacher. But if you're not good at online studying, don't take hybrid, as that is what you'll be mostly doing in his hybrid class. In person, he goes over the lectures well. Will be glad to talk to you anything math-related!.All of the tests (except the final) can be passed with showing work.

Great professor, gives you everything you need to get an A, replies quickly and gives good feedback. The class was relatively easy there was just a lot of online homework, just stay on top of your work and you'll have a good chance of getting an A.

Took his statistics class for my math credit and it went very well. Most of the work is online and on your own time. In class we reviewed and went over questions. I'm terrible at math but I got an 87. He grades fair and there always a chance to make up for missing credit. As long as you do all your work you will pass no problem.

Awesome teacher, very good at explaining and gives out an amazing workbook with all of your notes that you fill out during lectures

Overall pretty good. Gives you a notebook and you just follow along taking notes during class. You must come to class in order to actually do well and get any of the content. One thing is I wish he spent more time going over test after we take them

Very cool guy, always willing to give an extension when you need it, clear grading criteria, HW and exams both straight forward and easy, should be fine with little to no study as long as you do the HW and have good notecards for you to bring on the exams. Fun projects as well, great class, great professor

I would highly HIGHLY recommend either a hybrid or in person class for this professor! He explains things really well and is very patient, let me stay after class so he could explain something one on one and in more detail. and even goes over tests if you ask or see him in his office. Uses real world examples to explain things.

This professor is great. Do the assignments, reviews, and make sure you have a good notecard. This class is really easy if you do the work and pay attention. He will explain any topic you want to and replaces your lowest grade with the final exam grade is it is higher (ensures you have a final better grade). Best math professor.
