There was about 8 students left mid semester. Lecture heavy, every class consists of group work. Assigns so many papers with ridiculous formatting and techniques. Might even have 3 papers/research projects going on at once which makes everything confusing. Attendance is MANDATORY, takes off a lot of points from your grade. Ridiculous assignments.
Great personality, very funny. Essay heavy with not much explanation to it but willing to help.
His ok if dont your work you wont pass
He's a really caring professor who cares about his students and really wants them to pass. Like every other English class it will consist of a lot of reading and a good amount of essays. That's expected, but he's always willing to help and offers a lot of chances to meet him before and after class.
Overall Id say he is a good professor. Pretty understanding with due dates, though there is a lot of homework. He likes to use a lot of paper. If you have a question just ask him and hes happy to clarify. Nice guy overall.
He was a really good professor and he is so understandable
Real nice professor, gives lot of homework, dont bring out phone when he has a rough day. If you didnt do the HW he will extend the time for you. Great professor recommend taking.
Hes a good professor, he cares and hes semi lenient on due dates, hes really understanding. Theres is a lot of work at times but its the curriculum, and working in groups most of the time divides the work. Participation though, do your work.
He is very flexible and is understanding of how students may feel so he tries his best making the course enjoyable for everyone. He is very friendly and I would definitely be willing to have him as a professor again.
Easy class! Show up and Complete all assignments; you will pass.
He is very understanding in general, he is very real with whatever it is the lecture is about, he really cares about everyones opinions.
As a first time college student, Prof Dan was very attentive with me. He truly loves his profession and dedicates his time to every student. I will definitely take his English courses in the future.
Excellent professor who cares about his students. He's very knowledgeable and his choices in reading are interesting and valuable. You will learn to read and write in this class. He gives feedback on every paper, and gives opportunities for extra credit. I will definitely take his class again.
Professor Staylor obviously cares about his students and his grading criteria is always clear. For essays, he gives very detailed rubrics with a suggested outline and goes into depth about what each section should consist of. You have to meet outside of class for every essay but its beneficial. Hes not your average boring english professor. :)
Honestly, Professor Staylor is the best! He is very kind and intelligent. In this course you will do alot of reading and writing, but it will be worth it in the end. You will learn alot. I have 4 professors and he is the best! We need more professors like Mr. Staylor. If you have any issues with the work, he will gladly help you. Just be honest.
Very clear instructions. A lot of practice for reading and writing.
I have taken this class in the Fall semester. This teacher, Daniel Staylor, is very inconsistent with assignments and grading and not very clear with the exhibits and essays we were supposed to do. I could give this teacher 0 stars if I could. He is not as inspirational as I expected him to be. I would never take any of his classes again.
Not what I expected at all. I did all my assignments and would go to the writing center to redo my assignments to end up with the grade I got. He is all over the place always adding things last minute and expects you to be on top of everything. He doesnt explain things well. Expects you to understand everything and if you dont he gets annoyed.
I have avoided taking English 1A for the past 2 years because I was intimidated by writing. Dan made this class relatable to current times. He values transparency and as long as you communicate with him, he will work with you. This was by far one of my favorite courses I've taken at PCC, and would HIGHLY recommend taking any of Dan's classes!
Great professor that i would take again. He's very understanding of circumstances and was persistent in helping me achieve my highest potential in this class. Class was not particularly challenging. He's a very understanding grader and great professor overall. I definitely recommend taking him.
Prof. Staylor creates a different environment than other classes. He is extremely aware of creating an inclusive democratic space where the students get to have input in how the grading and the classwork is determined at the beginning of the course. He is the type who you email later to ask advice for your career or life. I highly recommend him!!!
I loved his class and really enjoyed it! I highly recommend taking his class! I took his class while I was still in high school and would attend after school. I always looked forward to attending his class and learning new things from his lectures. He made every single class fun and has a super funny and sweet personality! He is also very helpful!
He's a very nice professor but a very tough grader, he will also make you do a lot of case studies and HW. Very unnecessarily heavy.
Great prof. did an amazing job at transitioning from in person to online lecture. grading was clear. answered all emails within 24 hours.
The last great English professor at PCC! Always open minded with others' views.
good lord I hated this prof -veryyy slow grader so u wont kno ur real grade (got the first day of class essay (feb 19, 2019) back on may 6, 2019) -got due dates confused a lot -once was frustrated w how loud our class got one time n cussed/yelled n won the class back w food -i have a whole google doc... yall his unprofessionalism aint it
Didn't post any work for the first week and a half of school. First module was posted 2 days after the deadline to drop without a W. No warning whatsoever about the late modules. Asked us to thank him for the "slow start". Biggest inconvenience of my college career. Never take this fool
He was a really helpful professor. Allowed me to turn in late work if I asked. He met with me over zoom to go over my paper, and he commented on the final draft. His class is challenging, but you can easily earn a good grade.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!!! Took his English class online and its easy to follow and to complete the work. He grades slower, but I jut went to zoom office hours and he spent a lot of time talking about my writing and life with me. He's a really human being who was soooooooo helpful when I asked.
Super nice prof! He would give us plenty of time to turn in assignments and provided me feedback in office hours. Going to office hours is really important with him. Take his class!!!
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! grade by few things, Do not score according to the scoring standard, and give special treatment to boys. This is the most exaggerated professor I have ever been to.
Really enjoyed his 1B class. The books for the class are interesting and we talked a lot about our experience and how it relates to literature. He made the readings really interesting and his approach to the books made clear he has a passion for literature. He really helped improve my writing.
I learned so much from Prof. Staylor! He really cares and is always available if you need help. He assigned excellent stories like Blindness which was crazy but good. I would definitly take him again. Highly recommend!
Difficult to communicate with, gives homework one day before due dates. Amount of work becomes overwhelming. Disregards respect towards students.
Professor Dan really helped develop my writing. I was really worried about taking college English, but he’s nice works with you and encourages you to try your best. He has high standards for grades, but how else are you going to improve? The first part on growth and fixed mindset really changed my perspective for the better.
Professor Staylor really knows his stuff. I learned new ways to look at literature, and he made class meetings fun. He's really approachable and extended due dates when I asked. Take his class! You'll learn a lot.
Staylor is really great, take his class! I really liked the freedom with our research project because I wanted to do work related to my major. I'm using the paper for his class to help me apply for research positions at UCLA. He's been really supportive!
He's a nice person but not an overall good teacher. He lacks focus and organizational skills. He doesn't grade in a timely manner which can be detrimental to the student's success. He also locks future assignments/due dates making it hard to gauge workload. On a positive note, he seems to care about his students and is lenient with due dates, etc.
I am writing this review in prep for next sem. students. Although this class is basically P/NP, it is very difficult. He grades slowly, and will give you a NP if he doesn't like your work, it makes it hard to get an A. Currently, he has not graded past mod 1. Only take if your confident in your writing and are sure you won't have to redo work.
Prof. Dan is really nice and helpful. I enjoyed the books in his class and felt supported whenever I reached out. I see where others are coming from, but whenever I went to office hours, he was happy look at my work with me and gave lots of feedback.
Don't waste your time
Mr Staylor is a great teacher not sure what happened in the prior years with the comments , but this was My first year in college and I felt lost My other teacher I had to drop . I see where people say He is everywhere and it might be true but He comes back and picks us up right where he left us . Yes reading and interacting and writing its English
WOULD BE A 0 star, replies maybe once a week and fall behind so much with grading that you can't even figrue out your grade. Given no feedback and basically we were just simply reading expensive books and writing our own paper and grading each others's essay. Where is his role in the class? I'm not sure if he only take this class as easy money.
Professor Staylor is a great guy! I ended up having a tough semester due to some personal family matters, I sat down and told him about it and he was very kind, caring, understood and totally worked with me. I appreciated all that he did for me and would take him again in a heart beat.
This is the second class I have taken with this professor and he is one of the best English teachers I have had. He was always available outside the course if I needed any help with assignments and gave good feedback on essays that improved my writing. If you want a good grade in the class read the syllabus and complete all assignments.
Proffesor Staylor was a kind, and patient professor. If you reach out he is very accommodating, and will respond when you email him rather promptly and is always willing to discuss grades, and assignments with you. There are no difficult exams if you do the readings. :)
Had a good curriculum ready. Be prepared to do a lot of work, but he grades easily.
Professor Staylor was an excellent teacher. The course is fairly strictly set out, with late work accepted provided communication is upheld between the student and the professor. Took a while to get grades out, but once he did there was clear, constructive feedback offered. Very understanding, and really enjoyed learning with him.
Professor Staylor is by far the best English teacher I have had. ENGL001B is very straightforward...do the work, and you will get an A. Don't let the negative reviews steer you away from enrolling in his class. I believe those said comments come from students who did not do their assignments yet still expected and A...lol.
Professor Staylor was a very respectful, funny, humorous, and overall great professor. There were a lot of essays and reading involved, but he was there every step of the way. It was helpful to have office hours because I would go to him to proofread my essays. I would take him again!
Great professor! Art History 4B
Really great teacher. Professor staylor works with students to help them do well. Even told us that he WANTS us to earn A's and it's his job to get us there.
Professor Staylor's art 4B class is not a difficult class at all. He allows a 48 hours grace period for late assignments and drops the lowest quiz. Furthermore he uses interesting textbooks including Medieval Bodies which was a fun read. He is late to grade assignments but is also very lenient on deadlines. Be sure to attend class.
A really nice professor who has clear goals for the classroom. Super easy on the grading and is basically a free A. Pros: Barely any homework, 5 quizzes the entire term, and a take home final.
This Professor tends to upload modules late like about a week after it is meant to be published. It takes him a while to grade the assignments since I haven't received grades since the start of September and it is currently December. Otherwise, he is a good caring Professor who tries his best to provide support for students in need of help/support.
Really nice professor. Understands where students come from and helps with due dates and stuff. He's slow on grading but assignments are easy and he doesn't grade harsh.
I took him for Art 4A(Ancient Art) and it was his first time teaching it so he was a little unorganized but it wasn't an issue. He's really nice and very understanding. He will give you like a million chances to redo an assignment if you do it wrong or get a bad grade. For the midterm he gave us a practice exam and the real test was just like it.
Art 001C Staylor is a lovely professor. Super understanding and flexible. You can tell he cares about his students. The course was not difficult. There's some reading but even if you don't he goes over the important things to know in class. Class is very accessible to everyone. The material was very interesting. I highly recommend taking his class!
Great teacher!
Professor Staylor is overall a VERY caring and understanding professor. There are a lot of reading and writing assignments in the class but it is all manageable. Quizzes have unlimited attempts and are straight from the reading. Practice exams are almost identical to the actual ones. Stay on top of the readings and assignments and it will be easy.
6 week winter class; Pretty easy class, gives feedback for assignments, easy to reach, easy assignments, kind personality. No complaints, would recommend this professor.
Dan is a great teacher, having set up Coaching dates to see him during class hours really helped me to learn and to grow. I loved how he asked his students what it is they wanted to get out of the class. He was motivated to help you succeed on what your mission is.
My overall experience in the class and with Prof. Staylor were awesome. I am a student with cognitive disabilites and I have difficulty with certain styles of leraning. This course was well designed to accommodate students like myself. I would enjoy taking another cousre taught by Prof. Staylor.
I took Professor Staylor's online class and regretted it; I should have taken the class in person. Professor Staylor is the type of professor that requires a lot of work for his online class, and it felt pretty overwhelming at times. He's a good teacher and super understanding if you have problems, but I recommend taking him in person.
He's a pretty good professor, I just didn't end up doing the big assignment at the end of the semester necessary for an A, but I like that he gives us the freedom to choose. Do the readings, go to writing center and you'll be fine.
Great professor. He doesn't require a textbook, which is great. He gives links for readings for the week. Just do your work and you'll do well in the class. Two mandatory museum visits that can be done online, quizzes, discussions, journals, and a midterm and final. Honestly, an easy class and interesting.
Amazing professor, he is also very accommodating. I will take again!
Over all with this semester his teaching skills were amazing I would definitely take his class again.
he's funny and very nice. super lenient with late work, just email him ahead of time
Dan is an engaging teacher, very helpful with classwork, and he provides clear grading criteria for essays. Exams require writing essays, but practice exams provide clear expectations of what will be on the test.
Great guy to learn from. Very in-depth of art and culture. As long as you attend, you shouldn't expect a terrible grade.
Welcome Charlie(service dog) and I into the classroom and was very helpful and flexible with you. Responded quickly and if he didn't know he would look for the answer. class was fun and engaging and with class group chats helped further your understanding of the class assignments. I wouldn't change anything and had a great last semester experience!
Great Professor who really cares about his students and puts in the effort to help every student.
He was a creat for professor for my first semester in PCC he is an amazing teacher and the material he teaches is very interesting. Great experience!
This professor is very fair in terms of work. Deadlines are enforced but not enforced heavily. Communication will get you far in this class, be open about your struggles and professor staylor will help you.
Amazing teacher! very understanding, down to earth, the course was nice, but the class time was a lot, but only once a week so can't complain.
Very few assignments, so it really drops your grade when you miss one. Very understanding, any email will most likely get a yes if you're polite with it. Great analysis. Lots of reading, but I did minimal scanning and did fine without it, only using it for test studying (which were very simple). Overall good professor and calm class.
Professor Staylor is very understanding and kind. He won't overload you with too much work and takes student feedback seriously. I learned lots of interesting things about Renaissance art. I would definitely take one of his classes again!
Professor Staylor is incredibly understanding and kind. Not a difficult course at all if you stay on top of deadlines. Lots of writing but he gives great feedback. Would 100% take his class again!
He is extremely understanding and sweet. Most of class, he will make jokes to ease the tension and even give breaks after long videos or lectures.
Great class, learned a lot
Professor Staylor is amazing! He is extremely informative and makes lectures fun. You learn a lot from discussions in class and it makes the work you have to do easy. It was a really nice class overall. He is also very caring and will work with you to get the grade you want. DEFINITELY TAKE ONE OF HIS CLASSES!!!
This was definitely one of my favorite classes. Class is not mandatory but it definitely helps to show up. Assignments were manageable and weren't difficult at all. I would definitely recommend to take this class. (Art History 004A)
Great class and professor, a lot of work but has a grace period to submit assignments if late! Very detailed of what's expected.
Reading assignments, journals, and discussion posts. He gives you ample time between assignments to complete each one. Super understanding and lenient professor, I really appreciated his understanding as I struggled to balance work and school. If you like reading and writing about interesting art history topics, I would take his class!!
I took his online class, he was understanding and had reasonable extensions for late work. A LOT of class discussions and journals so lots of writing but relatively easy if you do the readings. The quiz's were great and helped for the exams, they weren't hard and you have multiple attempts. The exams are fairly easy as long as you do the quiz's.
I took Art 4B in Fall 2025. Overall, it's a great course that challenged me but wasn't overwhelming. The assignments were not too difficult, and there was a lot of grace in terms of due dates. As long as you complete assignments and show up to class, you will get a good grade. The museum trips are great if you can go!
Chill professor
Took class for art history, but course code was unavailable (ignore art001a). Great professor, kind, super lenient. great lectures and interacts with students during lectures but doesn't "expect" participation (if that makes sense). Keep up with readings bc there are quizzes. midterm study guide he provides, very helpful. museum visits w essays
Took an Art History course from him. He is incredibly patient and still encouraged students to read challenging texts. Professor Staylor also would regularly ask for feedback on what he could be doing better to support students.
Amazing professor. Great at listening to students' concerns. Classwork is not heavy at all, and he always gives extensions if needed.
