This is a really difficult subject! Dr. Stephen is tough but he is always available and very helpful. His lectures are clear and thorough.

Biology is hard but Dr. Stephen always takes the time to break it down to you. I really enjoyed the class.

True this class is hard. The outlines take a lot of time. The best way to pass this class is to go in and talk to him. He will answer all of your questions, go through the answers you got wrong on the test and quizzes. He is kind of scary in class but when you go see him in his office he is very kind and very helpful. I got an A in this class.

I'm not going to lie, it was a hard class. One of the hardest I've ever taken. But I learned a lot and it prepared me for harder classes I had to come, for example Anatomy. He'll work with you though if you just go in and talk to him and tell him your conserns.

There is a lot of homework, but if you stay on top of it it's not to bad. you learn alot and his test are rather straight forward if you go to class. I hate geology but was pretty interested in what he was saying. i liked him as a teacher because i actually learned. sorry to those who are in college but dont want to use your minds.

If you aren't a homework geek I suggest that you take a break from science if all the other classes are filled. If you want a teacher that makes you squeeze the money you paid for your textbook straight out of the pages onto a sheet of notepaper in your own words, have at it. Otherwise, enjoy your vacation!

He definitely makes you get the most of your money out of the textbook which is good. You have a lot of homework, and tests are fairly hard, but he prepares you well. He's a funny guy, great teacher and I loved his class.

After reading the sylibus I was somewhat wary of taking the class. If you want an "A" he expects hard work. This guy really does a good job. Class was somewhat entertaining. he respects the students and their views, I would recomend him as an instructor.

Will make you learn if you are in the class so you can get a good grade to BYU please transfer out because this will be no freeride

He tells you he does not treat this as an "intro" class but as a Senior level and he means it! Tests are complex. Lots of homework, in class and papers. This is a hard class but you do learn a lot. He is knowledgeable and expects more from you. If you want an easy A do not take this class. He does not accept excuses for not doing the work.

Paleo is a great class and Dr. Stephens is great at teaching it. If your into Geological studies this is a great course to take. This is not an easy class but you walk away with a good knowledge of the material that will stay with you long after the class is over. Any class Dr. Stephens teaches is going to be a good one!

Daily quizes, reading mandatory. Learned sooo much and wish I could take more classes from him. Seems harder than he really is, just ask questions and utilize office hours.

A fun class to be in. The teacher has a great personality and can keep the class entertained if you're willing to listen, and pay attention. his choice of clothing is also fun ^^ Be sure to pay attention in class and take notes, read the chapters, and go to the review sessions. STUDY and you'll pass. Overall i loved this class :) :)

Dan is way cool, a really open-minded and laid back professor. He keeps the lectures entertaining and engaging. Pay attention, take notes, and do the assignments and you're sure to get a good grade!

The Class is fun. The teacher knows his stuff. The tests are very hard though. Must take heavy duty notes or the tests are even harder. Tough but recommended.

You will learn geology in this class. Class time is extremely organized. Chapter end homework backs up class lectures. Tests based on lectures. Pay attention, take notes, study for tests. He has a great personality and keeps the lectures light hearted. If you want to learn he will provide the opportunity. If you're a slacker, don't take this class.

If you're lazy or dumb don't take this class (see negative comments below). If you want a university level geology class, this is it. Very organized, intelligent teacher. Take notes and study for the exams and you'll learn some pretty wicked cool stuff. Easy A/B if you are engaged in learning, otherwise might I suggest an art degree.

Plain & simple:power point lectures(everything on them is on the test)so take notes, homework from the book(too easy!)The tests are multi-choice, True/false, draw a simple diagram, and a couple essay-TOO EASY! Laziness will fail you, not Dr Stephen. Dan is a fun, light-hearted, good-lookin gentleman with a great sense of humor; u'll love the class!

This professor has you do chapter reviews for homework and gives tests with essay, multiple choice, True and False, and fill in the blank on all of the tests. If you have a graphic memory and don't mind homework he is a great professor. Be sure to get all the key words he wants.

Dr. Stephen is a great professor and really knows his facts. He is sharp, entertaining and rewards hard effort. I would recommend him to anyone who loves learning. His is one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. The secret to success in his classes is simple: diligent study = A.

Great teacher, he is really funny and is very clear he teaches from power-points make sure that you take notes, the tests are hard but fair make sure that you go to the test review days, he says they are optional but if you want to pass this class go to them.

For Historical geology Geo 1220 and lab. Nice funny guy who's willing to help and talk after class. He just has extremely high expectations for an entry level class. "this is a college class and you will do college level work" Anyone who hasn't already taken into to geology, biology and their labs should not take this class.

His class is difficult, but very informative. I have enjoyed his class and have learned a lot from him.

Tests are HARD!! STUDY the notes and diagrams for hours!! Seriously you need to memorize every single detail of the notes. He does a bunch of essay questions. Homework is easy busy work. As long as you get the notes every day and start studying a week in advance for the tests you will do okay. You kinda need a photographic memory to ace this class!

University level class, however this class was an "introductory" level class, but if you want to pass you need to take GEO 1010 and the lab. You will also need biology because this class is drenched with it. Easy "busy work" homework for every class and you will be taking TONS of notes, so don't miss a lecture. He has VERY high expectations.

Probably one of the best, clearest, interesting lectures. Everything you ever need to know are the notes you take in class, memorize them and you will know every question on the test. His tests are difficult and have a lot of info, but once again, just know your in class notes and you'll get an A. I'd take a class from him again.

The tests were pretty hard. I got an A in the class because I studied for 5 or 6 hours before every test. If you ace the tests you'll pretty much get an A. In class and in his reviews he tells you all of the answers to the tests if you pay attention. Cool guy even though he has a monotone voice.

I enjoyed the class. Dan was both informative and helpful in understanding the material of the class. I would suggest his classes to anyone who wants a college level geology class. I look foreward to many more classes with him.

Dan is a phenomenal professor. He is difficult, but you will always know exactly what is expected of you. There are no surprises. He is big on memorization, so you end up coming out of his class with a solid understanding of the material and the capabilities to intelligently discuss and explain geology.

This class was very hard but Dan made class so much fun! Like was mentioned before, STUDY FOR THE EXAMS!!!!! This classes requires a lot of time but I loved it. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the class if it weren't for his humor and love for geogly!

Dr. Stephen is clear on what he expects out of you, concise with what will be on the tests, and yes, they are difficult tests that will require you to actually learn to pass. But then, these ARE college courses.

Professor Stephen is a nice, quiet, funny teacher at UVU. Most people take him for Geology, which is his expertise. Great at learning names - he learned all our names by the 2nd week. We had a couple class students who talk a lot and often times he would just let them go on and on. Struggles taking control of the class sometimes. Great guy though!

Dan is awesome! He makes the class really easy and the homework is mostly reading. However, the midterms are really hard. Definitely the hardest intro class iv'e ever taken but definitely worth it! He does do extra credit to help out.

Dan is a great teacher that sets high expectations with an honest intent to help you learn. It is clear that he loves the material and you will love the class if you are a Geology major. Do not take this class as a science elective as it is difficult. With most things, if you put a lot of hard work into the class you will come out with a good grade

If your thinking about an easy Geology class don't take this class. If your serious about geology and want an amazing teacher then take this class. He knows what he is teaching and if you put in the work you will come out of this class with a ton of knowledge. I definitely got my moneys worth by taking it. This is how college classes should be.

I learned more in this class than any other I've taken here. It is very challenging but Dan is happy to help you understand the material and think critically about the subject. Do not take this class unless you are serious about geology and prepared to invest a lot of time. But it is so rewarding if you do!

Quite possibly the hardest class I have ever taken. I learned a lot but this guy expects way to much out of you and grades really harshly. I had to study for over 20 hours before tests and would barely get C's. He puts a lot of things on his tests that he doesn't even discuss in class.

Tests are an essential part of your grade. Buy the book and be prepared to read if you miss class. Always take notes and look at his exam reviews. He does small in-class tasks so don't miss class unless you really have to. If you were looking for an easy geology class DO NOT take this. as he tailors it to geology majors. Would recommend though! :)

Dan is one of the best geology teachers. But, that being said, he is very tough. He expects you to read the material, show up for class and pay attention. He really likes it when you participate. I would suggest forming a study group early on to prepare for the tests, as they are SO hard. Do not take his class if you aren't a GEO major.

One of my favorite professors & courses at UVU. Not a geo major nor taken a geo class, but I don't feel like he caters to majors at all. Passing this class is easy if you do what you should be prepared to do for ANY level university course: read the book, take good notes, & study. There are no surprises & it is right on par for a good intro course.

This was my favorite class! It was tough, but as long as you come prepped ,on time and stay for entire class , you can get an A. Dan is an fantastic teacher! There are 2 super easy essays and even easier daily assignments. The tests are thorough, but he goes over all the material. Memorize the time scale and the rock cycle and you'll be set!

This class is a"weeder class" for geology majors so the tests are really difficult, but he teaches you everything you need to know. Those who complain about the tests must be used to being spoon-fed exam questions through study guides, which is not the case in this class. if you take notes in class and study those, nothing will be a surprise

Dan is amazing. He is one of the hardest professors at UVU but you will learn more in his class than any other class. Highly recommend.

Listen, if you fail it is completely your own fault. This is not a difficult class. Just put in the work! He came highly recommended and I'm glad I took him. He is really knowledgeable, totally approachable and a funny laid back guy. He was always happy to help or talk more about the subject. Will take him again in a heart beat.

Geo was a lot of fun and even though you have to work hard to earn your grade, it's worth it! Honestly just be prepared to study but if you've taken other science courses it's not bad. Dr. Stephen is really great. He is a pretty quiet guy, but he obviously loves what he teaches and I really enjoyed his sense of humor.

He is a super knowledgable professor. You have 5-8 question homework quizzes that are due before each class, you can use the textbook or his lecture slides on them, and then for class he just lectures the whole time. Pretty easy class. His tests are multiple choice, fill in blank, short answer and essay. MC questions are based off of the homework.

Dan is rad. If you've taken other college science courses this class is a breeze. He's not going to hold your hand, but just do the reading and do the work! He's super approachable and happy to help, so don't be intimidated by asking him questions when you actually need the help. If you put in a genuine effort, there's no reason you shouldn't pass.

He's an entertaining teacher who clearly values what he teaches and tries to make things as clear as possible. Reading the textbook is important, but classes are recorded and everything is pretty straightforward.

Very Old School Grading. No mercy with assignments. No late assignments, and no retakes. Everything is open book though. So as long as you know where to find it, you shouldn't have a problem passing the class.

I loved this class so much! Dan is a super entertaining guy who clearly knows his stuff. It's mostly just lectures but he's so funny. He expects you to come to class having already read the chapter he'll be discussing. There's 5-9 question homework after every class and 2 short papers due at the end of the semester. My fav class this year by far!

There are quizzes due before every class which can be quite difficult, but everything is open note and all the lectures are recorded. Classes are entertaining and his lectures are always super interesting! There's a lot of material to learn, but if you attend lecture and read the textbook, you'll do great! I loved this class :)

Expect to read A LOT. The Exams are pretty difficult so it's recommended to attend the review sessions for exams. He gives good feedback. He knows the course material very well and is great at explaining it. Asking questions is encouraged. He likes detailed responses. The homeworks and slides are helpful when studying for the exams.

Professor Dan covers a lot of ground, but his lectures can be hit-or-miss. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of the readings and assignments. Unstuck AI proved helpful for test prep.
