Dr. Cardinale was one of my favorite professors at Rutgers! He knows Biology can sometimes be boring but it is evident that he loves teaching it and tries to share that interest with his students by making the lectures entertaining and kind of laid back. He explains the material very clearly and loves answering questions. Great guy!
Bio115 is one of the hardest classes at Rutgers, mostly bc the prof's are just as bad. Cardinale was extremely boring and corny, and hard to approach. He spoke super fast in lecture and refused to go back to slides on his PPTs
Go to office hours, Cardinale answers any question and he truly loves what he teaches. You need to study hard and go to lecture but he makes lecture SO much more enjoyable. Really admirable and dedicated to the subject and his students. The tests are VERY hard but if you do the BIO'sforms (no joke! seriously, do them) you'll do well.
Bio is just basically learning all the material outside of class. With the amount of information given during lectures, your better off outlining the textbook. Going to lecture isn't necessarily helpful so I personally went to know basically what I had to learn on my own after. Cardinale is passionate about Bio and I admire any teacher like that.
He's really passionate about biology, which can be inspiring, and he put up xkcd comics before each lecture, which was nice. He does go really fast, though, and it can be very hard to keep up with notes. A textbook can be helpful to make up for this, and to look up any of the diagrams. Other than that, I guess it's the usual RU Gen Bio I.
He really is a great professor that cares about what he teaches which makes you care about the information also. He does go fast but you can't blame him. He really tries to squeeze in as much information as possible. Most importantly he's a giant nerd and its so cute.
Professor Cardinale is very good. Everything on the exams are covered in lecture. As long as you go to lecture, take good notes, and study from them religiously you will be fine in the class. I would definitely recommend!
I love his lectures. He is clearly very passionate about what he does and has an amusing sense of humor. Since it's a gen bio class, you still have to study very hard, but the information in his powerpoints is really helpful as long as you outline the chapter before and go back over during lecture to reinforce!
he's an amazing lecturer, knows what he is talking about, goes super fast, covers a ton of information each lecture, never runs over the allotted time bio is really hard if you have not taken AP bio in the past.
Cardinale is super passionate and I believe out of all of the lecturers, he's the student's favorite because of his clear notes. The lectures are really great because he tries to make everything as simple as possible and always follows up with a picture for concepts to follow. You need to put in work but at least he cares that you actually learn!
Dan is the man, he takes his time with lectures and seems passionate about the subject. Not the easiest class but he makes the best of it
Gen Bio is difficult, but Cardinale does his best to help you learn. Moves quickly in lecture because there's a LOT to cover, yet never goes a minute over. GO TO OFFICE HOURS & COME PREPARED: he cares about his students & will answer any questions you have. He'll even do BiOs forms with you. Would take again even though the tests are hell.
Daniel Stern-Cardinale is very passionate about biology. He was an amazing lecturer, and he is always there for you if you need help. He does go fast during his lectures. Gen bio is hard, but he was definitely the best gen bio professor at Rutgers.
Very passionate and engaging lecturer. Gen bio is a very difficult course but he does his best to explain concepts and remain enthusiastic. Rarely goes over time (usually finishes over 5 min early) and has good pacing (the people who say he goes too fast haven't had Bendaoud). Go to office hours and try to take workshop seriously. Would recommend.
Amazing professor! His lectures were by far the best ive experienced at rutgers. If you go to class, take all the notes, and memorize then weekly, you will have no problem getting an A both semesters
This professor is such a straight up guy. A chiller and so corny and it even got me up in the early morning to attend lecture. The key is to stay on top of workshop and do well on the TPS each week. Then go to office hours and go over every chart known to man and this will give you the confidence to not cry on test day. But he's the best lecturer.
I had this professor for Gen Bio 115 and 116 and he was a great professor. The material can get dense because its general Bio but he tries to make the best of it. He tries to make lecture interesting. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He will answer any questions that you may have. Overall a great professor!
Do not fall for the trap that "Bio is all memorization." At Rutgers, bio is all about sequencing processes, evaluating outcomes, compare/contrast, etc. If you simply memorize words, you will fail. With that being said, Professor Stern Cardinale does all he can to make the course manageable. Great lectures, funny guy, and approachable. I recommend.
Dr. Stern-Cardinale is such an amazing professor-- he really knows his stuff and teaches the material quite well. The only thing he can improve is connecting the lectures to each other. I am taking him again next semester and went up to him after class just to tell him how amazing I thought he was-- this is how much I enjoyed his class.
Though attendance is optional, you need the lectures- they are amazing, and get a lot of information across, but they are very fast paced (To keep up, recommend taking notes AND taking pics of the slides). He really cares about students understanding the material, and is really good at understanding your Q and answering it. Amazing office hours.
Danny Stern is the man! This guy has genuine exuberance for the material and it's contagious. Don't be deceived, this class is fast paced and rigorous in its nature. But there's nothing to fear, Dr. Stern-Cardinale will help you with any of your struggles throughout the semester. Keep up the good work, bro!
Very clear in lecture and had very structured slides which made taking notes in such a fast paced class a lot easier. Always helpful and proficient in answering questions both during and after lecture. Very friendly and entertaining. Show up to class and study hard and you should do well!
His lectures are very fast paced and at times it can be difficult to keep up with the notes, but you get used to it as time goes on. Workshop is extremely annoying, but is generally a grade booster. Make sure you do well on the TPS and Quizzes. He genuinely cares about the material he teaches though and is passionate and funny while lecturing.
Really enthusiastic about what he teaches, and likes answering questions, the only bad thing is that he tends to move very quickly. The skimming list helps, but the fact that he doesn't make his lectures available online can make it hard to keep up. Definitely make sure to be prepared for each workshop if you want a good grade
Cardinale is an amazing lecturer who's passionate about bio and is willing to answer student questions. The lectures are well organized but tend to go fast so be ready to write quickly and take pictures of slides you may not finish copying down since they aren't available online. Textbook not completely necessary but useful for figures from class.
Super into bio and cracks more jokes in bio 2 than in bio 1. Lectures go fast so writing quickly/ taking pics of slides are key since they aren't available online and he doesn't often go back in the ppts. Amazing lecturer and always willing to answer questions.
Amazing professor. Genuinely enjoys teaching the material and is very concerned and dedicated to making sure the student's understand the material. Notes are very detailed compared to other professors (so I've heard) which is very helpful come time for exams. He provides plenty of optional help outside of class.
Go to every single lecture and every single workshop. This man is amazing. Follow his directions, and complete every bios form and every SEQ, CC, etc. he assigns. It will help. He is a great man teaching a very hard class.
Get the textbook, bring a thick notebook. Go to every lecture and every single workshop. This man is amazing. Follow his directions, and complete every bios form and every SEQ, CC, etc. he gives
Such a great bio professor! I've had him for 115 & 116, and it was a joy to sit through his lectures. After lecture, be sure to re-read his notes along with the textbook figures. Then do something with the notes - maybe re-write them, put them into a visual diagram, etc. That should help you remember the material for workshop and exams.
I had him for bio 1 and 2 and he was an awesome lecturer, very passionate about the material and if you just understand everything in his powerpoints, you will be completely set. Remember to read over the material in the book and take notes and understand the workshop material. He's great with questions too and makes bio fun!
Tests are borderline impossible, the average test grade was a 62. He makes his own test and the lecture material he goes over didn't help one but. He also has his tests on Sunday with no regard to people's other responsibilities.
So wonderful! Had him for Bio 115 also, can see that comment above, but he's really just one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. You should appreciate him while you have him-- most hard science lecturers aren't NEARLY as good! Wish he could be my professor forever :'( Legit, love him so much so so great.
hes awesome
Really passionate about biology. Tries to make lecture interesting and will throw a joke here and there in between
Honestly, I did not put in the work needed for this class, and my grade showed it. If you put in the work, pay attention during lectures, go back on your notes, use workshop, and attend his review sessions, you are going to pass this class. It's hard, but you will get it. There are also outside resources you should definitely use.
Super good lecturer. Definitely really cares about his students. Makes lectures fun and exciting. Review sessions weekly are really helpful. His class isn't "hard" its the biology department at Rutgers that makes the classes really difficult.
although bio115 can be rough class, stern-cardinale is an amazing professor who involves humor and easy to follow language into his lectures. had the chance to snatch an afternoon class with the other professor, but decided to keep the 9:15 AM with stern-c. general tip for bio: study for TPS and quizzes way ahead of time and review everyday!
Dr. Stern Cardinale is a biology rockstar. His lectures are fast paced but he really does know the material. Make sure you are able to review the notes outside of class- that's the only way to get an A. After the first exam you should be able to predict what kind of questions it will ask. He also co-writes the exams.
a wonderful lecturer, but very fast paced. i recommend either typing your notes or writing them if you can keep up. the exams are completely based on lecture material, so its super important to attend or get lectures that you missed from friends. workshop can bump up your grade if you do well on the tps quizzes (also lecture material based) goodluc
BEST PROFESSOR AT RUTGERS! I took Beal last semester (who is also amazing) but had an easier time studying for exams this semester because of Stern's notes. He goes through everything you need to know during lectures, and his slides cover everything you need. Such a great lecturer.
Cardinale is one of my favorite professors. Not only is he funny and a great professor, but he knows a lot about biology. You can tell he has a passion for biology by the energy he gives off in class. His notes cover a lot and are necessary in order to do well on exams. He also stops a lot in lecture to make sure everyone understands the material.
Dr. Stern-Cardinale makes a bio lecture fun. He truly loves his subject & gets so excited about teaching it. Bio 115 is hard af & it's a lot of info to digest, but Stern-Cardinale at least makes me want to come to class & pay attention.
Super nice guy with a good sense of humor to keep you engaged in what would otherwise probably be pretty dry stuff. I actually looked forward to this class. The material isn't hard because it's a lot of memorization (at least to me) but you've gotta put in a ton of time because it's SO MUCH material
He is an amazing professor and very passionate about his subject. I highly recommend going to his office hours as they help a lot. But make sure you put a lot of time for studying. The concepts are hard to understand and its a lot of information.
Dr. Stern Cardinale has thus far been my favorite professor. I took him for bio 1 and his lectures are informative and fairly easy to follow. He's funny and down to earth and very open to answering any questions. You have to go to his lectures because he doesn't post his notes online and workshop and exams are very lecture heavy.
Great teacher, super passionate about what hes teaching but does go kinda fast. He DOES NOT have notes online so you should either go to class or self teach. The tests are not that bad, just memorize the outcomes and organizers they give you. there is a bio workshop attached to it which is pretty annoying but its 40% of your grade so it can help
I really enjoy bio and Cardinale is an amazing professor to take it with. He really enjoys the topics and teaching them. Bio can be difficult if you do not put in the work. But once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. I never enjoyed the workshops though but that's just because I don't learn well in a group. I definitely enjoyed the lectures!
Bio at Rutgers has a reputation for being super difficult but Dr. Stern-Cardinale taught the course really well. He presented the information so I was able to actually learn and understand rather than just memorize. To do well, take notes from his slides AND as he's talking and do the outcomes. Try to understand the connections, not just memorize
Prof Cardinale is a great professor and is very interesting and engaging during class. Although he is a good professor, the class is extremely hard. You need a 55 on one out of 3 exams throughout the year to pass which sounds easy, but isn't. I lived and breathed bio and barely passed. STUDY WITH PEOPLE!! Talk it out, live by notes, use textbook.
He is absolutely one of the best Bio professors at Rutgers. He creates super easy-to-follow Power Points that allows studying to be made easy. However, this is still a challenging course. You need to understand the outcomes to do well. Also, DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK! You don't need it; he even says in class you will not be tested on textbook material
He is a nice guy who is passionate about what he teacjes. The class itself is hard, but with enough effort and the use of office hours you can definetly get an A.
He's very enthusiastic about bio and makes class interesting. Goes in depth and gives really good notes, but in order to do well on exams I found it necessary to read the textbook too.
Great professor, super passionate about his subject. highly recommend going to class and pay attention to his lecture and take notes but attendance is technically optional
gr8 professor, highly highly highly recommend going to his exam review sessions that he holds before the exams. usually what he says in those sessions are on the exam
Truly loves the subject he teaches. Intense lectures and you cover tons of material but with your lecture notes and further explanations in the textbook the material is very clear. Bonus points for great dad jokes
Dr. Stern was a great bio professor. The subject is very hard but Stern shows a lot of passion in his lectures which makes them easier to follow and pay attention. Bio is tough, but definitely recommend Stern.
Cardinale is the best. There's TONS of material bio115 has to cover so he can move fast, but he's so good with answering questions and his lectures are informative and he only puts lecture material on the exam. if you make sure to make all the organizers, attend all the lectures and put in the effort to study for the exams, you'll get a good grade.
This professor is a really passionate guy which makes his understandably lecture-heavy class a lot more fun than it would have been otherwise. You are given the tools to pass the course and he does his best to explain concepts. GenBio as it requires hard work to pass though, so study hard and definitely don't skip class/workshops.
He is very direct with his notes. I felt like I could have gotten an A if I gave more time and effort in the class. I usually do the bare minimum and getting a B for that is very good in my opinion. if you want an A just give a lot of time to study for exams instead of the 3 days that I used.
He's literally the best I don't think I've ever had a professor teach better than he does. The material is very challenging but he explains it in ways that makes it easy for students to understand. He's also extremely caring and funny which made one of the hardest science courses at rutgers so enjoyable. Definitely recommend him for gen bio
This requires your full attention. You need to practice at home and go over the material before and after class. He is an alright professor. Lectures can be boring at times but he will makes jokes every now and then.
amazing professor!! Never met a professor that brings as much passion to the table. Especially during times of quarantine, he accommodates well for his students online and helps out wherever he can. probably my favorite professor at rutgers. not to say the class is easy though. if you want an A you really do have to put in the work and study early
He is a great professor. At the end of the day for bio 116 it really doesnt matter who the lecture prof is as the material is always the same. But out of all bio profeesors he is by far the best. Take him if you can. Also this class is no easy A, you must practice constantly. I practically breathed and ate biology and i managed just a B
This guy is a living legend. Absolutely loved him. He has great lectures that keep you engaged and gives clear, detailed notes (that you honestly could copy off the slide). He is also a very light-hearted and funny guy. His review sessions were amazing as well. Workshops are annoying, but this is more of a a Gen Bio issue. 100% RECOMMEND HIS CLASS!
Gen bio can be a hard class if you're an incoming freshman. The material itself isn't hard but there is a lot of it. Stern doesn't post his notes online, so you're forced to go to class but he's a great lecturer. He loves biology and explains difficult in an easy to understand way. His review sessions before exams are also super helpful.
He is literally so funny. The class is hard but his lectures are amazing
Bio is super hard at Rutgers because of the exams and how much they're worth. Cardinale is an amazing professor no doubt, but with bio, there is only so much you can do. Notes in lecture are really organized (in outline form, I recommend typing notes), and he is a super funny and chill guy. The class itself is just hard.
There are review sessions (normal class time)but I do not go because they are not effective to me. Lectures are posted online so I just watch those and self study. From the lectures he seems very enthusiastic about bio and has good explanations. However, go to exam reviews because those are actually very helpful. Bio at Rutgers in general is hard.
Bio 115 is a difficult class in itself, but Dr. Stern Cardinale's lectures cover nearly everything that you need to know for exams. Lectures are asynchronous, but review sessions are offered during your regular period. Review sessions are helpful to clear up any confusion and ask questions, but I rarely attended and still did well on my exams.
He's seriously so great, I can't even imagine how good of a teacher he is in person! He's so funny and you can tell he loves bio/science. Going to his lectures are fun because you learn a lot and he tells you about his life. Bio itself is REALLY hard, like you can't slack in this class. Overall, he makes me enjoy bio more.
I love Prof. Cardinale, I really enjoyed watching his lectures. He explains the material clearly. However, for this course there is a lot of material and it is challenging, also I hate the way that workshops are set up but that's the department's issue. There are a lot of lectures but they are informative.
Dr. Stern is a dope professor. During our lectures he went through the topics and would give us practice questions which really helped us for our tests. Be careful because you only have 3 tests which make up the bulk of your grade.
Cardinale is great. He is super enthusiastic about the material and explains the information really well. He also is helpful when answering direct questions during review sessions. Definitely would recommend taking his class!
Stern Cardinale made my first biology class here at Rutgers feel like a breeze. His lectures are very detailed and he gives great feedback and helps in his review sessions. An overall fantastic professor who makes learning the material enjoyable and would recommend anyone needing to take Bio115 to take it with him!
Took Stern for GB115 and he recorded his lectures. His lectures were pretty solid, although he can go off on tangents about unrelated topics a lot. I have Beal for GB116 due to scheduling, but will likely still watch Stern-Cardinale's lecture. Nice guy, will answer your questions, passionate, and although I never showed up, his reviews were fun.
Had him for bio 115 and 116 and he is hands down the best educator I've ever had. His lectures are at a good pace and he makes them really interesting. That helped me understand the topics so much better and his reviews are very in-depth so the exams are a breeze. He'll take time to answer every single question. I wish he could teach everything lol
He is literally the best professor I've ever had. He goes into so much detail in his lectures and he makes them super understandable and even includes some jokes. The Bio organizers are super helpful. You definitely need to watch the lectures, either live or on YouTube, if you want to know what's going on. Also love how his lectures are 10-20 mins.
Really good prof, takes some time to get used to how fast he goes, but once u get it the tests are doable, tough but doable. Just prepare and go to extra ta reviews to look over ur weekly quizzes.
Even in the fully online class, I could tell he would have been even better in person. Very enthusiastic and fun way of teaching, but there definitely is a lot of lectures and notes. As long as you keep up and do well on practice questions and test style questions, you'll do well if you put in the work. Loved his class so much!
Such a great teacher, Bio I is tough but I actually learned to enjoy it, he just makes it so interesting.
Prof Stern Cardinale is an incredible professor. Explains what you will need to know for the exams very clearly. His review sessions were great. Prof Beal is also good, but I prefer him. You cant go wrong with either for gen bio.
He's honestly great. Bio can be super detail-oriented and have a lot of info so it can be a little difficult but he has a great way of teaching you the information in a steady flow so you don't get too confused. He's also very straight to the point and teaches you exactly what you need to know for the exams, nothing more. Great review sessions too!
I had Prof. Stern Cardinale for Gen Bio 115 and now in 116 and he's honestly the best professor I've had so far. His lectures are clear and straight to the point. Because of covid all his lectures were pre-recorded and asynchronous, but his in-person and online review sessions were really helpful during exam periods. Highly recommend!!
Dr. Stern is honestly the best professor I've had at Rutgers. I had him for bio 115 and 116 and I wish I could have him for all of my classes! He cares a lot for his students and wants them to succeed. He is always open to helping and his lectures are never boring, always engaging. He also has a great sense of humor! Def 10/10 take him if you can!!
Had him for Bio 115 and 116, great professor. As long as you do your part and put in the work his lectures will 100% allow you to succeed in Gen Bio. Birds are dinosaurs.
Super great professor. Bio can be tough and super detailed, but he breaks everything down very well and gives you exactly what you need to know so you're not too overwhelmed. Would definitely take again if I could.
Take. this. professor. Dr. Stern-Cardinale was one of the most genuine professors I have gotten. He sincerely cared about his students and his passion fueled the class. Go to this review sessions even if you do understand everything because he explains the concepts very well which helps the info stick better. Don't hesitate to ask questions either!
Cardinale was my favorite prof during my freshman year at Rutgers; I still sometimes watch his videos for fun. His classes are fun. He KNOWS how to teach, as opposed to many profs at Rutgers. I took Dr. Beal for gen bio 116, but still watched Cardinale's lectures because I understood him better. Also, ATTEND HIS EXAM REVIEWS, THEY WILL SAVE YOU.
I had Beal for Bio115 but I attended Cardinale's reviews and he is literally the best!!! He is very smart and witty! If you prefer a professor who's lectures are quick & straight to the point I highly recommend Stern. His reviews will SAVE YOU for exams.
Although Stern spoke pretty fast in lecture, he was very efficient for teaching such a large lecture. He cared about his students and had great reviews for all the exams! He was also open to questions after lecture and held practice sessions. I recommend him if you like a goal-oriented teacher and want to learn bio (not an easy class though)!
TAKE DR.STERN. He is one of Rutgers best lecturers. He takes a complicated subject like biology and really condenses and simplifies the information to make it easy to understand. He wants you to do well and he takes time to answer questions during lectures. He is so funny and enthusiastic which makes you excited to learn biology.
great professor, really passionate about what he teaches and he does genuinely want you to succeed. his lectures are fast-paced but he gets to the point and explains it well, teaches you everything you need to know for the exams and his exam reviews are SUPER helpful (would def recommend going to all of them)
Overall, a great professor. I wish slides were posted because you cannot access them outside of the lecture. If you ask him to go back, he doesn't. So if you miss any notes, you have to get them from someone else. The slides move quickly, so be ready to write or type fast. Consistent studying in this course will help you receive a good grade.
You are a first year student trying to decide between cardinale and beal. Go with Cardinale. They are both great professors, so you can't really choose anyone bad, but I took beal for gen bio 2 and I didn't like her lectures very much so I still went to Cardinale's classes. So it really doesn't matter which one you choose.
Such a nice prof. Goes fast during lecture but it's manageable. Weekly quizzes are kinda hard tbh. I'd get a group and do it together. Do not slack on studying for exams bc you'll literally die. The class is barely curved so you can't rely on that. You def have to put in the work but an A is possible.
Great professor!!! Highly recommend him for Bio 1 and Bio 2. Very passionate about bio and explains everything clearly and concisely.
If you want a professor that is knowledgable, straight-to-the-point, interesting, and funny, Dr. Stern is for you. He explains difficult material in such an interesting way and it is obvious that he is passionate about this information which makes you want to learn it too. His reviews before an exam are GOLDEN.
workshop quizes are super important treat them seriously, If you are prepared for every workshop you will do well. ALWAYS watch stern's exam review before every exam, very useful he basiclly go over everything in one and a half hour. Watch it and figure out what you are confusing with then you get 85+ every test ez.
Incredible professor. Do not take beal. Exams have more material based off Stern's slides. No slides posted, so you have to show up to learn the material. A lot of good resources.
absolutely love prof stern, had him for both gen bio 1 and 2 and i would 100% recommend taking him for both. he is genuinely passionate about biology and loves teaching it. his slides are straight to the point, beal isn't a bad professor but there's a lot more words and unnecessary info on her slides, stern's slides are more straight to the point.
Very helpful during office hours
He is a great at giving lectures. Attend his office hours and everything will all click. He is very fasted paced for sure, ask questions and do the right things and you will succeed.
Amazing lectures and explains in enough detail. He also seems very passionate with what he teaches while keeping lectures engaging. Also very helpful review sessions and office hours
Honestly the best bio professor you can have at Rutgers. He prepares everyone really well for exams, tells you exactly what you need to know, nothing more or less. Wouldn't have passed if it weren't for his review sessions
Stern is amazing professor. If you are debating between beal and stern.Take my advice take stern. He is passionate about biology. Super straightforward, fun and knowledgable lectures. Majority Exams have material from his slides. He doesn't post slides, need to show up to his lectures.
Dr. Stern-Cardinale is probably the best lecturer I've ever had. His passion for biology is very apparent and it rubbed off on me as a student, making it a lot easier to pay attention and actually absorb the material during lectures. I highly recommend attending his review sessions after lecture and his exam reviews. He's also funny asf
Dr. Stern Cardinale was by far the best professor I had during my first semester of college. He is truly amazing. I like his lectures because he is straight and to the point, giving you the information you need for the midterms and finals. I also attended his review sessions outside of lectures and he was always helpful with creating organizers.
Bio is not an easy class and he makes it 10x better. lectures are amazing. U got to put in a lot of work though. Exam reviews before every exam that cover literally everything on there
Excellent professor, only thing I wish he kept the politics out of class as there is a place and time.
Professor Stern Cardinale is an excellent lecturer. His passion for the subject is evident in every lecture, making every lecture enjoyable. Just wish the bio department would get their exams checked for typos.
He doesn't post the slides, but you could always get them from someone else. I do recommend attending though-- he gave super great examples and helped break complex concepts down. Sometimes goes on tangents but other than that he's great.
father is the best of the best. he heals my daddy issues. Got an a in the class just by listening to his paternal voice
As long as you study the material right way and practice using the bios forms, the class is not horrible. Cardinale is a very nice Professor but does get annoyed when people ask him questions from past exams. Studying with other people and making organizers helps a lot. If you have an interest in bio the class is very interesting
Stern rants abt things not on the exam & put info u dont need to know on slides. Stern doesnt go back to a slide even if multiple students ask. Beal's slides are more organized, more effort to draw diagrams herself & goes back to slides if u ask. Beal is a better prof when it comes to explaining & giving examples/ways to remember things.
Great lectures, you can tell he has passion on the subject, you can also tell that he is a chill guy. The only reason why he gets a 4 instead of a 5, is because he doesn't post notes. If you don't go to lecture or miss a slide, you have to get info from someone else. His notes are also vague sometimes, so you would have to do research on your own.
Both professors are good. I like Beal for 115 and Stern for the last 2/3 of 116. Stern's slides were hard to adjust to at first but recently they have good flow/organized and he only puts the info you need or summarizes it well. Beal sometimes goes slightly too in depth with not important parts recently however Stern has also done that in the past.
He made me smarter by making me happy. Father helped me pass course with his soft voice and love of pokemon. I would take again, as he is my papa.
Stern is great and obviously passionate about bio. There are two midterms and a final. Slides are not posted, but if you join a groupme, there is a way to make up for notes. You will have to print/ take physical notes as that is graded during workshop. Workshop asks for participation and a 5 question open-notes quiz.
Stern-Cardinale is a knowledgeable prof who makes the material engaging. Attend class, use the free textbook, and try unstuck AI for extra prep - it really helps break down the concepts. The exams are tough but doable with diligent study.
I 100% recommend he is an amazing professor. He has so much passion for biology and you can see it through his lectures and how much effort he puts into making sure his students succeed.
So I actually took Beal this semester but attended all of Stern's lecture reviews and WOW, he does not disappoint! All of his lecture reviews helped in all of my exams! I noticed that a lot of questions were reviewed by Stern. So definitely take him or at least go to his reviews!
LOVE HIM. Lectures are not mandatory but I recommend you go. Always does a review for midterms+final, super helpful. talks fast which I love but some dislike. office hours every week, I never went but super helpful apparently. Only gave a 3 difficulty because of the subject, not because of him or his teaching, bio would've been hard with anyone
Very passionate and engaging guy, loves biology and makes the topic very interesting. His slides are great but he doesnt post them on canvas so i highly reccomend you go to class. Make sure to create organizers ASAP so you can be ready for exams. exam reviews are super helpful and bialigy is a good supplemental resource. Love this guy
Literally one of the best lecturers to date. Super helpful review sessions and is probably the best bio teacher out there. He goes fast, but that's because of the course. Super kind and funny too. Take his class if you can. He is willing to help if needed too.
I love his lectures, he lays everything out for the organizers and tells you what you actually need from the slides. If he was not on C/D I would have taken him for 116. Bio as a whole is very demanding so be prepared to study. Stern makes sure to take time after class and during lecture to answer any questions.
Very engaging and very passionate about biology. Good at explaining and he's always at the point. Must study for the class... I was on brawlstars till 3 am on the day before the final, hence my grade. But other than, very good!
Such a great class. Love this guy
Awesome professor. Bio is a hard subject definitely but with stern he's very helpful and does reviews before each exam that tell you exactly what you need to know.
I had Professor Stern-Cardinale for Bio 115 and Bio 116. He is probably one of the best teachers I have had. He always made sure that everyone understood and answered questions when asked. Both professors are great but if you want my opinion, I'd take him.
had him for bio 1 and 2, cannot recommend him enough attendance isn't mandatory but GO ANYWAYS, he's such an awesome teacher and genuinely loves what he does his reviews for each exam are also top tier!!!!
GO TO HIS REVIEWS THEY ARE THE BEST
Loved him, one of the best professors I've had at Rutgers.
He's good at teaching
fave professor. his lectures are so good!!! it's just the workshops that suck
This is a prof that obviously deeply cares about how his students are receiving his words. He shows passion in what he is talking about and his presentations are always concise and easy to follow. TAKE NOTES
SO GOOD, STERN IS THE BEST BIO PROF AT RUTGERS! TAKE HIM! HES MY GOAT!
I don't know why people hype up his teaching so much. His slides contain info that isn't tested on the exams, so you end up having to memorize irrelevant details. The exam guides suck and don't help at ALL. I don't even know why we have to do those. The recitation quizzes don't even do much to help your grade. The other prof is worse though...
dr stern is definitely one of the best profs i had this sem. he's really funny and cares a lot about what he teaches. right after class he's always available for questions, and his review sessions r really helpful. ACTIVE STUDY AND MAKE QUESTIONS IF YOU WANT AN A DO NOT JUST READ TEXTBOOK AND NOTES!!!! he's a great prof you'll be fine taking him
He made waking up for 8:30ams worth it. You could really tell he enjoys teaching and by the end of the semester most people showed up to his lectures instead of the other professor. His exam reviews are the best thing!
He made biology much easier to understand and also fun! Make sure to go on his zoom review sessions before midterms because almost everything he said was on them.
I love Dr. Stern his really good at what he does,& his office hours are very helpful since he keeps hinting at exam questions. I love him so much that I am taking gen bio 2 with him as well. There is a lot of studying to do, but it's definitely worth it. He made me love bio, and you can really tell he enjoys teaching.
