I dropped after the first wk. He's a little crazy, but I thought he was kind of funny. He has a test either evryday or evry other day. If you haven't read the chapter, than ur screwed! He had a test at the second class meeting!
This is the worst professor i have ever had. There was a quiz given everyday. Did not give tests on what he lectured about. Talks about random stuff that nobody cares about.
Daily Quizzes that are really easy, but then he gives random test that are really hard, and does not prepare you for them at all. His lectures are all over the place which makes it hard follow. He is a nice but preperation for the big assignments sucks.

I took his class and it involves a lot of work on our own.finals and mid-terms are very hard. although many of the questions are from websites!
he sucks~ if you dont pick up ur scantron within the first 10 seconds, he collects them and then marks you late and you lose points on that days quiz
Worst professor at Pierce. He is rude, unfair, and is always late for class, however, if the student is late for class he deducts points off your grade. He must be avoided if possible.

Oh man, he is disorganized and his lectures are CONFUSING! I don't know how I passed the class but you do have to attend class and study the book. If you want to pass the quizess, do the study guides.

Hard as hell. Easy Daily Quizzes but dont be fooled. his midterms are hard as hell. he doesnt teach well. writing is small and sloppy. he doesnt like answering questions and is very defensive or **** in a way. dont take him, you'll die. beware someone needs a pedicure.
He tries to hard to be funny, resulting in having to listen to "Get your Kicks on Route 66" 20 times throughout the semester. He warned us that he would lock us out of the room if we were late for the final, then he showed up an hour late and faked that he lost his voice - as if that was an excuse.

Not as bad as you may think. He is very disorganized. He expects you there on time, though he is consistantly late to the first class of the day. His daily quizes are straight out of the study guide. Not very hard to pass. Everything he tells you will be on the final and mid-term was not.
great teacher, he gets all his daily quiz questions from the study guide, and half the final and midterm are also from the study guide. the down sides are that he deducts points if you're late, which he constantly is, writing hard to understand and will from one topis to the next out of nowhere.

His repetitive lectures will have you bored the first week. Not very helpful, doesn't answer questions with valid reasons. Not open to new ideas or helpful teaching styles. More than half the class dropped or failed.
Don't take this bad person. Offers extra credit, but doesn't give you the points. He is mean and yells at you.

Great teacher.I took his class during the winter. He gives daily quizess, but they're from a study guide. Bad writing, so pay good attention to what he says. Also, if you take his class, my advice is to read the book. You'll get an "A" for sure.

I am a history major and this is by far one of the worst teachers I have ever had. His lectures are all over the place and then he gives the hardest tests. I will second the comment on the pedicure, its pretty discusting
Horrible teacher. Very disorganized... jumps from topic to topic and never finishes what he's talking about. Writing is illegible. Quizzes are easy cause it's exactly the same quiz as the ones in the study guide, but tests are hard cause he pulls it out of his ass.
He is an excellent teacher. he may be a geek but he knows his history really good. he gives like a five question test everyday but they are really easy and you can make as much extra credit as you want. if you don't want to take him because it is to hard then you should rethink and ask yourself if you belong in college.

Sure his final is hard, but he's a great teacher and why are we there in the first place. Really funny and interesting. Brings in his own experiences and travels. Couldn't wait to get to his class.

gives quizzes every class meeting, and they are straight out of the study guide. the two midterms are hard though. I failed the two midterms and still got an A! so you can get an easy A even though the class is boring (unless u like history).

A horrible teacher. He gives a quiz daily, which are easy since they come out of the study guide. He lectures on the same thing over and over again, never really anything new. His Midterm and Final are extremely hard, and ontop of that he gives you an essay the day before the final, that is due right when the Final is about to start.
He is very unfair. He tells you one thing and means another. Hes not helpful. He doesnt have a good attitude. He never answers your questions right. He answers them w/somthing totally off the subject. Honestly, his class was horrible. Maybe deep down inside he MIGHT mean well but he is 100% unreasonable. Try not to take his class, hes rude.
Daily quizes are extremely easy and are on scantron. The teacher's method will most likely confuse you when it comes to taking notes from the chalkboard. Just rely onread the booking and should do just fine.The teacher is rather funny and tries to make the class a bit more entertaining than your average history class.
I wouldn't even call this a class, lectures are impossible to comprehend, and often aren't about the subject matter. Also, teacher will never allow you to ask questions nor will he answer. In addition, will never respond to e-mails either.

Quizzes are right out of the study guide so are easy but the midterm and final are hard due to the amount of info. you have to memorize. Lectures are on whatever he feels like discussing and were hard for me to follow. If you are like me and need a structured outline to follow in class don't sign up for his classes.
You have to show up to every class meeting. If you even miss one, he expects you to get notes from people. If you miss more than one he will probably drop you. His lectures have nothing to do with the reading and he is very unclear. I learned absolutely nothing in this class. Exam is difficult even if you study like crazy. Take someone else.

This professor may love history, but he hate students. He has no respect for any students unless they last untill the last 2 weeks of class. He makes it almost impossible to pass. He's rude and needs to retire. (I passed and still feel this way.) His objective is not that students learn, it's making most fail. Do yourself a favor, save your money.
One of the most undesireable teachers I have ever taken. lots of pointless quizes and off the wall tests. very poor teaching and always late or absent. Covers topics so quickly that lectures are hard to follow and makes so many stupid jokes it ruins class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Listen, he dose have a certin way of teaching, and he likes that way. His hummor is different; He dose not put up with crap from students! So, show up to class on time, the quizes are straight out of the work book, and take good notes because the info is on the test. Do that, and you will get a A or B!
If you want know history for yourself, take him. But if you want just good grade, forget it.

I'm not really as interested in History as compared to Psychology or Math but Mr. McHargue taught me to read and appreciate the works of our founding forefathers. His way of teaching is really from the old school but isn't that the essence of history anyway? I love it when he quotes poems or famous sayings from the likes of Jefferson, Lincoln, etc.

Mini tests is in a guide book, but the final test forget it. Be careful it is very hard. So, If you are really good listener+take a really good note+pay attention every time in the class+read all the chapter in the book (again-->all chapters), then, you could take his class. If you are not, forget it.
This teacher might seem like the worst teacher in the begning because of his appearence and his old school strictness. His everyday quizes are meant to make you read your study material. If you want to succeed in this class, you have to know what is in your US history 13 book. Class lectures are extremely important.
Friendly and funny. Sadly, he jumps all over the place and goes too fast to follow anything or take decent notes. He tries hard and is very knowledgable, but he's just not GOOD at teaching.

POISON! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! Unclear, hard to follow, quizzes you on things you never cover! I have studied and worked 8 hours a day studying my final for the last 5 days and now I hear it's on things we never covered. I've been getting straight A's in this and from the final I totally expect to fail. This is NOT a beginner class.
Dr. Mac seems very knowledgable, but he gets distracted easily and often wanders off topic. You're better off not paying attention during the lecture. It's an easy class if you actually read the book and buy the study guide. All of the questions from the quizzes come straight out of the study guide, so that's free points just for showing up.
Dr. Mac is knowledgeable, however he cannot teach. His class has no structure. It is hard to take notes because his handwriting sucks and he jumps all over the place. If you get the study guide its literally an easy B in the class. This guy is a blatant bigot. He took my quiz away from me for not covering my answers a few time when others were doing so as well.
He's a good guy who is passionate and very knowledgable about history. My only complaint is definitly does have his own teaching style which a lot of people probably don't like, a lot of quizes and lecturing.

Quizzes easy but midterm on things barely discussed or available to study for in book. Notes on board illegible, covered the same material over and over. TAKE YOUR HISTORY WITH ANYONE ELSE!!!

Dr. Mac is a fun teacher. His lectures are very interesting, but a little drifting from the material. Don't believe him when he says, "it will all be on the test". I learned a bunch and he shared things that are not in a text book. Study the maps! I would recommend him.
I am so interested in history, but this class could not get worse. I dont think i was able to take more than 2 pages worth of notes the whole semester because he's always jumping from subjects and talking about stuff that doesnt partain to the class. He is so uncairing. takes pts away from you for STUPID reasons. DO NOT take his class
Funny the first day, increadibly rude. If you don't answer a question right he emberasses you in front of the class. But he does know what he is talking about. BEWARE HE IS NOT HELPFULL AND WON'T ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AFTER OR BEFORE CLASS.

RUN AWAY. i read stuff about him but thought that people were just making him look bad...but NO. he is a bad teacher, unfair, his tests are not based on anything he says in class, and he doesnt say much in class. he talks about himself..and somewhat scribbles notes all over the place. Dont make the mistake of taking this classss!!!!!!!!!
Lectures are boring, jokes are lame, a bit disorganized, most students were failing or barely passing, including myself. However I don't think it's unreasonable to expect students to show up on time, read the book, pay attention in class, and to "think for yourself". If he doesn't answer your question it's because you weren't paying attention.
Very knowledgable but you have to pry it out of him. What was sad was that I saw many students who loved history actually drop out of or wind up finishing the class hating history. He is all lecture and there is no participation from the class. Can be very rude at times. I saved myself some money and used a book from the library.

This is a severe understatement... he's boring. I had a hard time answering the questions because his lectures were off topic. If you read the book and answer study questions, you'll be fine. Don't listen to him though. It hurts...really...it hurts.

Took him in fall - drove me nuts and I really liked, thought i did, history. Until i met him. he has poor people skills, unable to relate to students, lectures were crap, all over the place, tested in last 4 minutes of class one time and usually last 8-10 minutes. Started with full class and lost 60% by half way. STAY AWAY. Why is he here??????
I did the maximum extra credit and worked my butt off but got my 1st and only D! Totally ruined my GPA. This was 4 years ago, doesn't seem things have changed.
OMG..i actually just left his class and I got so upset that I walked out the last 15 minutes. I later found out i missed the quiz which he gave the last 5 minutes of class. He is arrogant during class, always seems to go off on a tangent on presidents every class. He only lectured on presidents, not necessarily what was presented in the book; because of this, tests were bombed and quizzes were failed. Offers a ton of extra credit- do as many as you can! Don't fall behind, it's hard to catch up!
I can understand why people didn't like him, but he's clear about what will be on the tests (90% of the stuff he said you ought to know, you had to know). His knowledge is vast and his tolerance for laziness is nil. He gives hundreds of chances for extra credit to raise your final grade one whole grade. People who fail this class haven't tried
He has a hard time keeping on track with his lectures. He tends to fall off subject a lot. If you attend class and take good notes and study you will pass his course.
A lackluster teacher that has no decency in caring for his students. It would definitely be a mistake to have Mr. Mchargue as your teacher for History 11 or any other History class.
I can't believe the negative comments. This Prof is actually a very good teacher. If you don't pass this class you are just an idiot. He gives the answers to the quizes 5 minutes before the quiz. If you read the book, and go online to study the practice tests, you WILL get an a. He has really bad jokes that keep the class entertaining. He is very nice and does care. Don't see how you could not get at least a C. Just do the work!!!

This teacher is awful! If you have him, ignore the lectures and just read the book. He goes on tangents for hours about his summer/winter vacations, and will cry about his father. The book is somewhat offensive, but it will get you through the tests. He loves history, but loves to hear himself talk even more. Don't take him!!!!!
Hardest Summer class I've ever taken. Expected 5 hours of reading every day. No people skills. Rude at times. Expects a lot. I recommend taking this on a credit/no credit basis, if you HAVE to take during the Summer. (Helped me protect my GPA) Offers extra credit but doesn't tell you its worth until end of class. Hard to like.
I AM IN MY 50s AND HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. Ok so he's not a warm fuzzy teddy bear but he is fairly clear on what he wants from you. He's strick, and expects you to be prepared for class SOOO read your book, take good notes, do practice tests online and put up with bad jokes and you'll be fine :)

I really think some of the ppl on here must be wmps cuase this guy isn't really THAT horrible. Yes you have to read your book, and study, but really we're in college, ppl get with the program.
I agree with the last person he's not all THAT bad. Never really had a mid-term nor as many tests as what the syllabus called for, and although the syllabus says cumlitive he really only focused on the last few chap. So he's not easy but not terrible.
Nearly impossible to follow. He has interesting stories and can make you laugh. He is the least prepared and is always like he is busy or can't take time. Is not clear or organized. Wishes he were something he isn't, as good as some other history profs.

This guy knows his stuff, but he speaks down to his class, comes across as an amateur when he does that, like a middle school teacher. Lectures are cool, but he doesn't seem to understand going in "chronological" order, which with history that's critical.

Hardest history class you will ever take. He jumps around too much and rarely stays on topic, has pretty unreasonable expectations, and when I say his tests are hard, I dont mean just hard, but EXTREMELY hard. Alot of the material on them is stuff rarely or never discussed. Avoid him at all costs.
Thank you Dr. Mac for making this class for what it is: an amazing insight on American History. Quizzes and exams are easy as long as you read the book. Map quizzes are stupid easy, and really, Dr. Mac knows his stuff, and I can proudly say this was my favorite class during the summer semester. He may jump from topic to topic, but it's all good.

Honestly, if you show Dr. Mac that you are willing to learn and try, he'll give you a break. His lectures are interesting, I thought his corny jokes were funny in the sense that they were corny. He goes over the quizzes before hand, no homework, unlimited amount of extra credit. He did, however, screw us over on the final.

I was early for the first class, but because I wasn't there EXACTLY when he started, he dropped me and gave my seat to somebody else, and then laughed in my face when I protested this. Spare yourself the frustration and go take this class with a human being and not this jackass.

He really isn't a good teacher at all. He jumps from topic to topic and hasn't prepared us for the midterm at all. He does give a lot of extra credit but that's only to make up for him not being able to teach.
He's unorganized, expects too much from students as if his class is the only course that exists. Loves to crack ridiculous jokes, but he does give out alot of extra credit. Overall, if you need to take history and he's the only option make sure you take this class by itself!
Why is it that god-awful, substandard instructors like this are even able to get hired in the first place?!? He is one of the worst teachers at Pierce! Also, there are days where he doesn't even wear shoes to class and walks around with his absolutely disgusting, fungus-ridden feet rubbing all over the carpet. He expects students in their seats several minutes before class begins. I have been marked late (and had points deducted) even though I was in my seat 2 minutes before class began.
Absolutely horrible human being!!! Makes his tests more difficult than they should be for a entry level college course. Reminds us everyday to drop his class. Makes fun of us more than teaches. Marks me tardy every time but lets other people slide. Hate this guy with a fiery passion.AVOID HIM!
Unprofessional and disorganized. On three separate occasions he rescheduled quizzes without warning. Pray you can find parking - he starts lecture 5 minutes before class is scheduled to start and if you're late even a couple minutes your grade will suffer. There are opportunities for extra credit but only because he enjoys watching you suffer.
Give the guy a break! He's a living, breathing history book. He expects people to read the book and learn something. Yes, he's difficult. This class will be my LOWEST grade for fall (C+ or B-). But I learned more in this class than any of other class this semester. It's more about what you learn than the grade you earn. Read, Study and Pass.
If you're clueless on the historical tip this will be a tough class. If you enjoy U.S. history this is for you. Very passionate about his stuff. I got an A but had to do all the work plus extra credit, of which he offers alot. He also has his own way of giving his exams & quizzes.
This is the worst professor I have ever encountered. This class is EXTREMELY difficult. He is all over the place. He is very passionate and very smart. Too smart! If you struggle with the material this is not a class for you. you MUST attend EVERY class and his exams are incomprehensible. Hardest class I've ever taken.

Seriously the most difficult class that I have ever taken. The guy missed 2 weeks in a row and gives the class a midterm (without covering all of the info) the week he gets back. He knows a lot about history, but nothing about teaching it.
Worst Teacher Ever. This is the hardest class i took in Pierce College. I try my best but i cant get any higher than F. The test are very hard on purpose and everyone in my class is failing. He does not care about the students. I had to ask 10 times to know my grade. I advise not to take this class. He even made us buy a 90$ book that we dont use.
Although He Seems Funny At First He's Not. He's A Terrible Teacher, Very Unorganized, Missed Class For 2 Weeks Then Gave A Midterm Not Covering All The Material. Unless You Can Learn Purely From Reading Dont Take This Class.
Dont EVER take him. He missed class for what seems half of the semester canceled for 2 weeks in a row. Is rude and unhelpful had to hunt him down because he missed class so much to ask him what my grade was and he finally told me 1 day before Withdraw date. He put my 4.0 gpa at risk. HE SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING!
Good Teacher, if you pay attention and take the class seriously. His wife was sick for a couple of weeks. If you read the book and have a little comprehension then you should have no problem. I started out with a D (1st test).Got my stuff together and ended with an A.
Was an overall great class, he went over everything we needed to know for tests and quizzes. If you read from the book it was a lot easier.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! If you care about your GPA - do not take his class. Doesn't care for his students. He's a horrendous grader!!!!! Again... DO NOT MESS UP YOUR GPA BY TAKING HIS CLASS!
All the reviews are correct about the sloppy notes and lack of organization, however, Dr. Mac makes the class so simple. Everything for this class is simple memorization. The test questions are tricky but if you READ, you'll be fine. There are NO CRITICAL THINKING ESSAYS so the answers are always black and white. Extremely easy class if you READ.
This guy shouldn't be teaching. He missed about a total of a month and a half's worth of class. He would not move the midterm despite this, so we basically had 2 class sessions before the midterm. The highest grade anyone got on it was a D, and all he had to say was "I thought the test was easy. I don't know why you guys did so bad". TERRIBLE
I got an F in this class.If you love history and already know everything this will be flying colors. If history is new for you, and looking to pass with any sympathy, compassion or a chance THIS IS NOT THE CLASS, I REAPEAT THIS IS NOT THE CLASS. This class goes by numbers alone!! You will be graded on your scores, nothing more, nothing less!!!!

I mostly took this class because it was open and it fulfilled a requirement. I'm SO glad I did! My biggest regret is that I didn't work harder. If you read the book and pay attention in class you will be fine! He gives a TON of extra credit opportunity! He is very interesting to listen to and REALLY knows his stuff! Take it, but work hard!
If you complain that you NEED to read the book for ANY class you don't belong in college. Easy class if you read the book, take notes, and show up to class: you WILL pass the class. This is not an easy A, but there is was no homework, but lots of quizzes. With the internet as another source of info, how could anyone fail this class? Do the reading!
If you read the book and listen carefully, all test questions are SO EASY, and lots of extra credit. But don't miss classes or get behind.
His lectures are disorganized and mostly off subject, though the information is hidden within them. He is very authoritarian and comes across passive-aggressively. He distracts his students from the very information he is trying to teach and then ridicules the class for its laziness and lack of intelligence.
Absolutely the worst teacher I had. Class started out with 32 students, and it soon dropped to 7. Tests had questions that did not have answers found in the book or in lecture notes. While lecturing, he often went off onto different tangents. I received D's and F's on tests, yet fortunately he graded on a curve, so I got an A for the class.
Class was once a week so obviously attendance was to your benefit. Also because of the once a week meet, there was a quiz every class meeting, but really easy 5 question quiz. Based on both lectures and the reading. Tons of extra credit like visiting museums or watching political debates. Easy class if your an actual serious college student
I love history, but taking it with this professor made me reconsider this position. How I ended up getting a professor who loves history as much as I do and get confused and bored in his class is beyond me. His writing is messy and too much rambling during lectures.
Not a fan, his lectures are boring, he barely covers any information, barely writes any sort of notes on the board, he ignores most student input and or questions, far to much unnecessary banter, ZERO study guide. He sets the class up for nearly everyone to fail, I personally do not recommend his class!!!
