Favorite instructor so far. The class is super easy. There we 8 homework assignments, 2 midterms, a final, and a term paper. He tells you the questions that are going to be on the tests ahead of time and the homework is super easy. Really interesting class.
Really nice, great guy and teacher. Probably the best at Pierce, gives all the questions for the midterm and final and only three assignments all quarter. Don't bother getting the book though, all the notes are given in lectures.
This class is great probably my favorite class I have taken at Pierce. Hes funny and tries to get everyone involved and finds new ways to teach. Gives you test questions on day before, 10 homework assignments 2 midterms a paper and a final all easy if you show up and pay attention! Great teacher I'm taking his next class next quarter Soc 211!
The tests are a little rough but as long as you study it really isnt that bad. He gives you one 4-5 page essay to right due at the end of the semester. Daniel is a great teacher and a really cool guy. Only one homework assignment a week which is nice
He gives somewhat fun lectures and likes to try to get the class involved but you don't have to participate if you don't want to. There is one easy homework assignment per week, two midterms, and a final. All of which are somewhat easy if you study. There is also a 4-5 page paper due at the end of the quarter but its not a difficult one to write.
Loved this class. Daniel is a great teacher and will I be taking him again. Class has great structure and can be fun if the class participates. 1 assignment per week and it's usually about 30 to complete. He does a great job of making sure everyone understands the material.
Professor Suh was extremely helpful throughout the whole quarter. If you need sociology I HIGHLY recommend you take him. He makes class fun and easy to learn. Just make sure you attend so you understand the information but if you miss he post the power points online. I would take his classes again any day.
Daniel is a great professor! He is super approachable and friendly. His class was fun and interesting, I really enjoyed it and learned a lot! I would definitely recommend taking his class if you're looking for a sociology credit :) If you follow along with the power points and study questions, you will for sure get a good grade!
Professor Daniel really made this class fun and enjoyable. He doesn't give out many test, he gives out homework assignments every once in awhile, and he's a good grader on his assignments. On his study guides for his midterms he likes to sometimes cut down on his questions.
Take any of Daniel's classes and it will instantly become your favorite. He is amazingly friendly and approachable, not to mention hilarious too! The work you have to do in his class is beyond reasonable but he's also more than willing to give extra help. He loves total class participation and makes everything fun and interesting.
He is a down to earth professor. The amount of work and participation you put in his class is vital! I was in his first quarter at Pierce and he gave out all written tests, kinda of tough but only 10 essay (more like paragraph) questions. Overall, class was stupendous, great classroom environment. Tough grader, make sure you know your stuff!
Daniel is amazing. The whole class is super easy (only 5 homework assignments for the whole quarter and you basically get 100% just for trying) but it all leads up to a giant group project/presentation at the end He grades that the hardest of all. But still a super easy and fun class
Lectures were delivered by PowerPoint and little else was elaborated on, which ultimately made the material a mess. He relied on class discussions to carry the class, though they were rarely productive. Grading made no sense, and seemed to rely on arbitrary metrics, where high scores were avoided for the sake of being high scores. Nice guy, though.
Professor Daniel gives only a few homework assignments. He is always happy to help anyone who needs explanations on anything during class or office hours. Gives good study guides and even cuts down the number of questions sometimes.
Daniel is awesome! His class was a lot of fun, not too much homework or tests, so don't buy the book for this class. He likes discussions so if no one talks he just puts his hand on his face and awkwardly smiles until someone speaks
Always looked forward for what he had planned. Great teacher.
His tests are all essay questions, 10 problems all together. He gives you a study guide, gives you the exact answer to the study guide, then he narrows down the problems you have to study; out of the 15 he chose 10 of the EXACT problems will be on the exam. Basically, just memorize them and you're sure to pass the test! Lectures were minimal.
The homework is really easy and he makes sure you know everything on the test. He is super funny and made me want to go to class
Daniel is my favorite professor by far. Hes pretty easy going and wants you to succeed. Don't be afraid to voice your opinion in class because the class runs on discussion. He assigns weekly reading and homework, but its super easy. The 3 tests are fairly easy, go to class and he tells you the questions before the test. Great guy! (Don't buy book!)
Overall a decent professor. However, he does favor certain class times over others. Directions are not always clear and he doesn't post homework and study guides for all of his classes. This can make studying and turning in all assignments difficult.
Very nice person, good prof. Tests aren't difficult if you stick around for in-class review. The only major problem is his handwriting. It is illegible.
He is a very approachable professor, and his class can be quite easy as long you do the work required (Do the homework and take notes from his lectures for the test).
Daniel is by far my favorite professor. He is super approachable and very understanding. You will do well in the class as long as you do the homework (lots of reading) and participate in class discussions. The tests are extremely easy as long as you study the terms covered in class and he gives a very detailed review before each test.
He's an overall great teacher probably my favorite he basically tells you what is on the test so dont skip class and doesnt assign a lot of homework and homeowrk is genrally pretty easy.
Daniel really made my experience of Sociology a good one. He is always available to talk if needed and most everyone I have met that has taken his class respects him and think is one of the best professors. He is.
Daniel is a very easy going professor! He give lectures that you need to take notes on but he goes into detail & gives many examples. When it comes time to talk the tests (3 total) he will tell you the 10 questions that will be on the test so you literally just have to study those. Super easy class but very fun! Love going to class!!
Suh is literally the best! He'll tell you himself--you don't need the textbook!! He doesn't post his slides so just take notes and study for tests and you'll be good. His lectures are always super interesting tho, and he loves discussion--whether you agree with his views or not, which is refreshing! Trust me, you'll regret not taking him!!
Daniel was a great professor, you could tell he was passionate about the topics discussed and he made them interesting. He would crack jokes and talk about our personal life as well as encourage us to share stories about ourselves. The class spoke to me on a personable level, Suh really goes out of his way to make an impact in your life.
Do not buy the book. He says that the first day. He likes discussions as he fears lectures are too boring. Before a test GO TO THE REVIEW. Awesome down to earth teacher. Your participation matters but he understands things happen and just asks you let him know if you cant make it to class.
For me, this was an easy A. Go to the lectures and take note of what he says will be on the test. GO TO THE REVIEWS. He told us which 10 questions will be on the test, so all you need to do is memorize those answers (that he tells you the answers). Put in a little effort and you'll do fine. Don't slack off, but at the same time its not terrible.
Great professor, easy A. VERY clear study guides and you can BS your way through every assignment
Loved his class. He is hands down one of my favorite professors!
His class is enjoyable, he makes students comfortable sharing his opinion. He is a very tough grader and is not always clear with what he wants. His class was not overwhelming but make sure you ask him specific terms he is looking for or you will not get the grades you want.
It is a decent online class, but overall the work required is a little more than other classes. Most tests you only get 1 chance 10 questions in 15 min. There is a midterm and final. Have a quiz each week, a reading discussion post with quotes from book needed, and another discussion post on extra reading or video posted.
Soc 101 was one of my fav classes at Pierce. Daniel is very laid back which may bother those who like a lot of structure. If you are at all unclear on criteria all you have to do is ask for clarification and you'll be fine. Attending class is v. important, as is contributing to discussions. It is evident that Daniel really cares about his students.
Probably my favourite professor. Makes lectures fun through participation. Learned a lot. Easy if you pay attention.
Lots of in class discussions, and homework due every class on the assigned reading. Different social issues every week. Grade very easy, you turn it in you get %100. Only 2 test, midterm and final, gives word for word study guide of what the test will be. One major group project, a 10-12pg research paper and presentation with a group of 3-4..
Daniel Suh's Sociology class was probably my favorite of all the classes I've taken. I enjoyed the openness of the discussions, the freedom to speak about social issues with a diverse group of students and Daniel's ability to facilitate those discussions. I learned so much from him as well as my fellow students. This class was amazing.
Daniel is awesome. Super interesting material and doesn't even feel like a class tbh. Classes consist of group discussions and there are short homework assignments due usually every two weeks. Only two tests and a final. He literally tells you whats going to be on the test. Easy 4.0.
Daniel was hands down one of my favorite professors at Pierce. You have two mid terms and a final which he gives word for word study guides on. There is also a paper which is 5-6 pages which he grades fairly easy on. I had a great class and you basically just show up every day, take minimal notes, and discussions. Would take again if I could.
Great teacher by far. A few homework here and there but nothing too hard. Only 3 exams, no final
This class allowed you to engage with the teacher and other students daily on sociological concepts on anything from race, religion, economics, you name it. The reading homework is about once a week and you answer some questions to go along with it. The tests were exactly what you learned in class and the professor is pretty funny. I learned a lot
Daniel is so funny and nice
He has powerpoints for his SOC101 class but show up and take notes and participate in the out loud class discussion during the lecture you'll pass easy breezy and you learn A TON! I love his class!! 10/10 recommend
He is a great teacher! I took his class and he was very laid back. If we didn't get to something the he didn't try to cram it and make us suffer due to the short summer session. There was minimal homework and readings and only 3 tests and one term paper. He was a very fair grader and the discussions always kept the class fun. Great class!!
Daniel is truly an amazing professor. You can tell hes passionate about what he does and that he cares about his students. Theres a ton of note taking in class, but he still tries to make it interesting & not as monotonous. Honestly one of my favorite professors at Pierce, I would definitely take another course of his.
Daniel Suh is my favorite Professor by far! He gives you all the answers to the quizzes and he is so hilarious!
Daniel was such a great teacher. He helped you when you needed it and answered any questions that you had. He also gave elaborate study guide for tests and went over them completely in class. And there wasn't a lot of homework.
Professor Suh was one of the best instructors I've ever had. The discussions in class were interesting and inviting. He creates an active environment and allows disagreement. Highly recommend, you'd be lucky to have him as a professor.
Great guy! Great professor! Straightforward with what he expected from you and it was easy to deliver! Practically gave you and explained answers of his tests and helped you understand the concepts. 10/10 choice.
Daniel is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is straightforward on assignments and content in tests. Though his class was fairly easy, I learned an abundant amount of content. Not boring, very interesting, and participation is critical to enjoy his class. Highly reccomend!!
Daniel is very personable, but he seldom elaborates on topics more than he has to. ie: "Goffman's theory is that everyone is an actor", but it is left at that with little explanation, only unproductive class-led discussion.
By far one of my favorite professors. He creates a discussion friendly environment where everyones voice can be heard. The class isnt homework heavy, only one or two readings a week, but theyre interesting. Just be ready to talk to at least the person next to you. However, Im pretty shy and didnt have a problem. 10/10 would recommend.
Overall would recommend. But to point out some cons, since most are all pros, that hell say something wont be on a test, but it ends up being on the test. Also, his explanations are vague and student discussion led the class. That was annoying bc a lot of it was nonsense. A competition of who can be the loudest. Avoids giving As for no reason.
Prof Suh is the coolest prof I've had in my entire life. Do your work, participate in lectures and be sure to study the review before tests and you should be fine.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! literally the easiest and most flexible, Ive taken him multiple times! I always get a 4.0 in his classes!!
Very nice guy, cares about his students very funny, enjoyed taking his class.
Daniel is such an amazing professor. Great speaker, very funny. I would definitely take his class again. We spoke about controversial subjects, however because of the calm atmosphere nothing got terribly heated. Very fun class with great lectures and topics! The lectures were slideshows with clear information for note taking. Exams were easy.
Daniel was a good professor, doesnt give As on exams because he doesnt want you to think youre too good for his tests. Not great at answering questions, but easy homework and tests. Would take again.
Hes a harsh grader. He refuses to give 100s on any exam regardless if you get everything right because he doesnt want you to think youre too good for his exams. 3 tests- all short answer, 1 project, and around 10 reading assignments. I thought this would be an easy A based on other students reviews but I was wrong. Attendance is also graded.
Daniel was such a funny professor, always making class more entertaining and enjoyable. We got to have really good, deep conversations in that class that were sparked by Daniel. Highly recommend!
I love Daniel. He is one of the best professors I have ever taken. He is so chill and great. His class is an easy A, as long as you do the homework and study for his tests. His tests are really easy.
I took Daniel for Sociology 101 and I loved his class! He created amazing discussions that were both interesting while being fun and respectful of the topics discussed. Although it is true that he rarely gives 100% on tests, he prepares his class for the exams better than any professor I know. He gives exact ten questions and answers for the test.
Professor Suh is easily one of the best professors I've ever had! He was very good at keeping everyone engaged and made learning so fun and stress-free! Everyday was a very thought-provoking day and always had lots of laughs. He gave us 2 midterms and the final was optional, if you were happy with the average score of your midterms. Amazing class!
I had his sociology class every day and I loved it! We had 9 homework assignments that are reading an article (some can be lengthy.. like 15 pages) and you write a summary about it but you get a full week to work on it. This class was super fun because it was an open discussion so there would be debates. Daniel was also funny + relatable
One of the best professors I have ever had. He engages the students well and cares about the topic and that the students learn. Do the work and engage with the topics in class and you will easily pass.
(ACTUALLY 201 NOT 211) I took this class online with daniel after liking him for soc101. Doing it online was super easy. Every week we would have a reading (sometimes long but easy to skim) write a summary on it, post a discussion about a video you watch ( easy to skim) & part of that weeks textbook reading, and a quiz (quizlet helps). Super easy.
Daniel Suh is a cool guy. Daniels classes are interesting, fun, and involving. Lots of note taking (copy off powerpoint's). His tests are very straight forward and although he does not give many A's, you can still do very well. He is a funny guy, cracks (funny an sometimes inappropriate) jokes. Homework is super super easy.
Daniel is probably my favorite professor Ive had so far. Hes funny during lectures and makes class enjoyable. Only 3 test the whole quarter that are straightforward from lectures. Usually the day before test he also gives an optional class day and if you attend he gives answers to the quiz and easy homework once a week. Would definitely take again.
I really liked Professor Suh as a person but not as a professor. Each exam was 10 open-ended questions. I didn't mind the exam format at all but he made it extremely difficult to get high As. Throughout the quarter, he'd tell my class that if we got close to scoring a 100 that he'd take a few points off because it "wouldn't make a difference."
I had to take this class online due to covid and I'm having to spend countless hours doing homework from this professor. If you have kids, work full-time, even part-time, have a life, don't take this class. This one class is at least 25 hours of your time. The quizzes every Sunday are ridiculous, open ended, guessing games. Impossible to get an A.
The thing i hate most about daniel suh is that he limits his replies to your emails to a maximum of 6 words, pretty much everything else about him is cool
This online class requires A LOT of self teaching. 500 wrd summary each week on 20+ pgs., watch hour+ documentary, and complete a 500 word discussion with 200 wrd replies to 2 other students. No lectures, just you and the text. The textbook leans left.
Daniel Suh was the best professor Ive ever had. I love his teaching ability relating sociology to the whole classes real life experiences. Normally I hate going to class but I was excited on days that I had sociology. Lots of note taking from powerpoints, 3 big test he will give you the questions prior to test day, answers are in your notes.
I took Dr. Suh's class online due to COVID. I like him as a person but if anyone should understand how difficult this transition has been, it should be a sociology professor. We had so much work to do weekly that instead of actually focusing on the point of the lesson I was just focused on making deadlines. He has completely ruined sociology for me
I have taken an in-person class with Professor Daniel before and LOVED it, however, his online class was not as enjoyable. The class got very repetitive because we would do the same assignments each week but they would relate to the chapter we were focusing on. If you can, take an in-person class with Daniel. He is by far one of my favorites. :)
DANIEL IS SO AWESOME BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!
Wasn't specific in his expectations. Asked what he wanted/ was looking for via message on canvas and he never replied. Discussion posts were frustratingly difficult and never seemed to please, despite my efforts. Class was all online, but I feel I would have been better in person? But who's to say? Swing and miss on my part.
He is an okay professor. He has this dumb theory of purposely not giving A's to students. Maybe because he is afraid that a student might know more than him. Either way, I wish the school would look in to this as it hurts our GPA. The readings are a little outdated and he doesn't seem to have an actual grasp on the subject.
I, like a few other ppl in my class, EASILY got 4.0s in Daniels class lol. His questions are straight from the textbook, and he only jokes about not giving students 100s. He was super instructive, def covering the main points. I love his lectures, we all just end up talking to each other! So fun, and he responds to ppls emails in like 5 mins lol.
This is not an easy class. Get ready to work a lot and spend several hours doing assignments. However, he values hard work and rewards it. Excellent Professor, I think he found the best way to make an online class work.
Weekly work: 500 word summary of article, 500 word discussion post with citations, 2 200 word responses, 10 question quiz. It is a lot of reading and writing so you will need to set time aside for this class. You need to read a full chapter every week and watch documentary plus read 10 page articles. Easier grader but you have to follow the guides.
Wasnt sure at first, but Professor Suh is just pretty chill with everyone/grading & works for students. Flexible with deadlines because of my work schedule, it helps, took this class +2 others working full-time. Discussion posts like one page, responses shorter than texts, & people actually had conversations cause the readings/videos were engaging.
Daniel is a great professor and his course is super easy. As long as you do the weekly work and do the reading you'll be fine and pass easily. He is the best professor I've had at Pierce and definitely one of my favorites. He is also willing to help you outside of class! I'll be taking his classes in the future as well.
His class was amazing. Very engaging in class since my class was in person and explained topics very well
Daniel is AMAZING. 100% would recommend. I think he is the best professor I have ever had. Work is easy, class is fun, Daniel is so kind and extremely forgiving.
I really enjoyed this class. There is a LOT of reading. And quizzes do have questions on them that are not "obvious" things to jot down or highlight in the text, so you have to pay attention. Exams were short essay questions, and not too difficult. The requirements for discussions/replies are just *slightly* excessive, but not impossible.
Predictable when homework is due. The canvas setup isn't the best--there are lots of links that lead to different tabs, and you have to reference the rubric that is stated in the first week for the reading summary and discussion board. It becomes routine, though.
