Dr. Voth is an excellent prof. Very helpful and friendly. You can tell he's genuinely excited about what he teaches. He's also very funny.

Voth is a very good prof, clear slides and lectures. Tests are tough but manageable, no excessive amounts of papers. Overall it was an interesting class with a good prof, would recommend to those interested in this field.

Dr. Voth is fantasic! This was one of my first university level classes and he made it a breeze! His lectures are engaging and interesting and I was happy to attend them. He's clear, concise, and he voice is quite nice to listen to as well lol! I definitely recommended taking his POLI 201 class even if it's not your major!

Professor Voth is outstanding at his job. He is a very animated and engaging lecturer who seems to have extensive knowledge in the field. Beyond this, Daniel is one of the only proffs who is successful in encouraging class participation in lectures. I would recommend proff Voth to anyone with at least a little bit of interest in poli sci.

Really nice prof, but insanely boring. Lectures seem to take ages, and all he does is talk for literally 80 minutes straight. Found the tests to be easy, but make sure you buy the textbook or else it might be difficult to get a good grade. He has terrible office hours, but helps IMMENSELY.

Voth is very nice, funny, and helpful. Lectures can be long though as he rambles and gets off topic, but generally still very interesting. Reading the textbook is all you need to do for tests. TA's are savage markers for a junior course though.

Dr. Voth is a really good prof. He really wants his students to succeed and that it very clear. This class isn't extremely easy, but if you read the textbook and go to class you should be good. He does not post the notes online so go to class.

Engaging, knowledgeable and enthusiastic! His lectures were fantastic and his energy level never seemed to falter through the year. I had a great time in his class and I learned a ton. The pacing of the class was great and the homework wasn't unreasonable. Would take again in a heart beat.

Professor Voth is very passionate about what he teaches and is a very exceptional professor although sometimes he does tend to drag out lectures and repeat his point over again. That being said, it's a fairly easy class and he is a fair grader.

Voth is a pretty new prof and has the spunk to keep students engaged. Hes a really personal and intelligent guy, and will definitely help you if you ask questions. Honestly, don't have anything bad to say about him, besides the fact he didn't put the notes online, so class attendance is pretty much mandatory. Overall, great prof, and nice hair.

Dr. Voth is a great professor who knows how to inspire his students without being preachy. The class I was in was small - only about 12 people - so he took the time to make sure each of us clearly understood the content. You still have to be ready to read a lot and write a lot, but Daniel is more than willing to help where he can.

Such a great lecturer, hilarious and very interesting. Dr. Voth doesn't post notes, but he gives students plenty of time to copy the material down. The textbook is a must have though, and the information in it is important and comes up on tests a lot. I wish I could take this class again, it's been my favourite in the POLI-SCI department so far!

My favorite prof this semester by far! He definitely knows his stuff and works to make sure that his students understand it as well! Made politics actually quite interesting, this is coming from a person who hates politics. Definitely would recommend.

Super charismatic and enjoyable to listen to. The course material was quite dry but it was a good introductory for politics. He is very approachable and easy to chat with. Go to class, the lecture slides are quite minimal and I personally never opened my text, for me I felt it wasn't needed. Test were fair but,papers were really harsh on citation.

Voth encourages class discussion which can make me nervous. but the class environment he creates is so positive and welcoming, you end up wanting to join in. Go to class, talk to him and you will get a good grade.

MY FAVORITE PROF BY FAR!!! He is passionate about the content he teaches. Plus, he is super charismatic, funny and engaging. Go to class, especially for the second part of the semester. His review sections are hilarious and his laugh brightens the room. I had a great time and would take his class again in a heartbeat.

Voth is a delight - he's fascinated by Indigenous politics and so he really takes an interest in the course. He's a tough grader and he'll nickel and dime you to death for your mistakes, but he's a great guy. He's also very helpful with your assignments and is quite helpful in office hours.

A great class for anyone wanting a deeper knowledge of Politics. A great professor, who is passionate about the course and is able to integrate multiple learning styles into a 50 minute class. I highly recommend, although take their comments and work on them, take notes in class (active listening) and read the textbook as everything is fair game.

Awesome prof! His enthusiasm about the material made me look forward to his class. His tests aren't bad at all if you've gone to class and skimmed the textbook. The TA's were tough graders for the assingments, but were overall pretty fair. I would definitely take another class with Dr Voth!

Really great lectures. Although its politics and serious stuff he makes class fun. His tests are fair game (everything from lectures and textbook), however the papers are marked hard (class avg in 70). Would take again for any politics course again. His young and creates a friendly environment!

Dr. Voth was a joy, his lectures were engaging, funny and enjoyable. I often looked forward to his class, and rarely found myself bored. The TA's were pretty tough graders however. Make sure to study and read the textbook, the final is fair game & the exam mark killed my grade because I didn't read the text often, which is my mistake, not Dr. Voths

Voth as a lecturer (not taking into account the harshness of TA's marking student work) is good. He makes the course material easy to understand, and his communication skills are top-notch. His lectures are enjoyable, funny and all in all a good experience. He also goes out of his way to ensure that students have access to various resources.

Dr. Voth makes the class fun and engaging. He is very passionate about his work and tries to get his students to feel the same passion. He is a well-rounded professor and I'd happily take a class with him again.

You will not find a professor who is a better educator than Dr. Voth. What I mean to say by this is that his feedback on papers and written assignments is top notch compared to other courses. Specializes heavily in Indigenous issues, and his intro class involves a lot of this if you have an interest in getting your feet wet re: INDG politics.

Dr. Voth is by far one of the most engaging professors I had at U of C. He brings a great energy to class and is very open to class discussion. My only critique is he is a tough marker but he is always available for extra help and gives tremendous feedback. Keep up the good work.

Dr. Voth is guaranteed one of the best proffs you can get for a first year class. He is really caring and works hard to make sure you understand the material. I would take this class again in a heartbeat! His exam question are mostly from lecture so make sure you show up and ask questions.

Daniel is a great prof! His lectures are always fun to listen to but also very informative. He loves to take feedback near the end of the term and always tries to incorporate it in the last few weeks of class. His two assignments and midterm are not too terribly difficult but you do have to read a lot and study hard for them.

Dr Voth is amazing. Not only he is respectful and caring, but also he does reflect an optimistic spirit which is really important. He considers feedbacks and makes lectures enjoyable.

My only prof this year that wasn't terrible. He makes the lectures super fun and interesting, includes lots of cool tidbits and listens to the recommendations of the class. Just really goes above and beyond the expectations, a rare trait for a professor.

Amazing! Explains topics thoroughly and uses great examples. Lectures done at great pace. He always posts slides on d2l with good notes. Textbook used mainly for first half of course, study that for the midterm and you're solid. For second half, make sure you go to class! His lectures and notes are important for the final! Beware of the TA tough...

PARTICIPATE IN THE POINTLESS TUTS! Voth is a great lecturer - stays fairly close to the textbook. Everything on the tests are fair game but I would say to prioritize studying the notes over the textbook. He takes into consideration your feedback and tries to incorporate it into the class. Very engaging (uses Top hats). The first paper is worth 5%!

I've taken three classes with Professor Voth and I wish I was in POLI so I could take more from him. I could go on four hours about how much I loved his lectures, the readings, and in-class discussion. Voth is incredibly passionate, hilarious, and is a fair grader. Some may think he is a tough grader but he holds students to a high standard!

Easily one of the best classes I've taken during my undergrad. It was a super fun and engaging course. Prof. Voth is approachable and clearly passionate about the subject matter. Daniel is a clear communicator. He does a good job of engaging students by ensuring all students have a voice in the classroom. (We had some GREAT discussions!) He injects interesting assignments into his course including student online posts and peer reviews. Questions were always answered. I would take another course from him in a heart beat.

Daniel Voth made Poli 201 worth attending. He has a deep understanding of what he lectures and provides the most interesting stories from his past career in politics to reinforce his lectures. While the material can be dry at times, it is a intro into political science course after all but he does try his best to make it interesting.

Great prof, very good at explaining things. EVERYTHING AND THE ONLY THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ARE IN THE LECTURE. This includes stuff off the slides and anything he brings up. Go to all the lectures and write good notes, you have a good chance of pulling a 100

Daniel is such a caring individual. I visited him twice during office hours to discuss ideas for my essays and he was very open and helpful! Writing one discussion post and replying to two every week is an easy 15% plus if you show up on peer review day you get 10%. Such a kind and engaging professor.

Dr. Voth is an all around great prof! His lectures are engaging and his assignments are simple but helpful for working through the course work. He gives really good feedback when writing papers and he is easy to approach for help. I learned a lot in this class and I would urge anyone to take it

He's also crazy intelligent, I don't think there's been a single instance in class where he didn't know the answer to a student's question.

This block week course was absolutely amazing. You will learn more then most other full semester course, and in a fun way (a full day hearing). Make sure to have friends in the class for the big group project and be prepared to read a good amount of literature. Overall, Dr. Voth is awesome and will definitely take another course with him if I can.

Dr. Voth makes block week courses worth it. I truly think his Indigenous governance class should be mandatory for all degrees. He provides a great perspective and understanding of what Canada is in relation to indigenous peoples. His expectations for grading and effort are very clearly laid out so its easy to be successful.

Voth is good at maintaining respectful dialogue in the classroom; some issues can be contentious. He is quite tech savvy and, as such, uses D2L is ways you may not have encountered, i.e. controlled discussion board submissions. He carries a positive energy and is very helpful with topic refinement. Strongly recommended.

I took Poli345 online which is not meant to be online, as it is all group work. Dr. Voth is young and his lectures are though provoking and passionate. However, I think that he could have done more to help in situations that arose in the groups as it was a group work class. I would recommend him as a prof though!

While I found his class difficult, Dr. Voth's energy and creativity in teaching made the class incredible. I learned so much and am definitely inspired to study more Indigenous politics!

He's an amazing prof! Passionate and actually facilitates learning and thinking instead of just telling you things to memorize. If you like group work and if you think you're a gem under pressure, then this class is definitely for you. He's able to show both sides fairly while sticking to who he is and his values as a Métis person and its great!

Dr. Voth is a phenomenal teacher. Lectures and discussion are thought provoking and he tries to make you think outside your usual perspective. He is super aware of the stress that comes with classes and is super accommodating. Would 10/0 recommend him for any class.

I really enjoyed this class even though I generally hate group work. THERE IS A LOT OF GROUP WORK but Dr. Voth is very responsive and answers emails and discussion posts diligently. He is very passionate and knowledgeable. But don't take the class if you don't care about the topic and only need a block week course. It's not for that at all.

I was scared going into this block week course. Dr. Voth stresses the amount of groupwork (as he should! there's a lot) With that said, this course very quickly became a fav as did Dr. Voth as a prof. The class gave me a new appreciation for teamwork and high-pressured situations. It's sort of exhilarating. Voth is precious, kind, and enthusiastic.

This class is really here to make you view the world a little more openly, and Dr. Voth is so open to all view points. He is willing to meet with you to help you work through different subjects like the residential school and the different treaties from around the world. He wants everyone to have their own opinion and express it.

Dr Voth is by far the best Professor I've had at U of C. His lectures are engaging, amazing, and really creates thought and consideration. Dr Voth is also very easy to get into contact with, and is very much willing to sit down and talk through any issues you're having, and help you understand the course.I wish I had twice the amount of characters.

Guy talks really fast and his test questions are so broad it is hard to pick the right answer when it is based on what do you think. It was hard to study for the test because the questions are like long paragraphs that each response is a few sentences so lots of reading. He tries to make the class interesting and is such an understanding guy.

I took INDG201 with Dr. Voth Fall 2021 and he was probably one of the best profs I have ever had. He is super understanding and takes many things into consideration. He makes his lectures very interesting and is a pretty forgiving marker when it comes to papers. You do need to show up to lectures in order to achieve a good grade on the quizzes tho!

Dr Voth is passionate, personable and an exceptional professor. He is always available to talk through any questions or problems or even just to have a conversation about the course material. His lectures are very interesting and engaging and he truly makes you want to learn. I hope I have the opportunity to take another one of his classes.

Dr. Voth is a great and inspiring professor. You can tell that he actually cares about what he is teaching and it is super evident in his lectures. The grading is great because it is divided amongst a bunch of different things (assignments, quizzes, papers) and although intimidating at first, it was a great way to bounce back (I had a C to an A-)

Dr. Voth is very passionate about what he teaches and is very kind and respectful to all students. Grading is fair, minus the first assignment which was kind of vague. He takes student feedback very well and adjusts his grading accordingly. There was plenty of opportunity to do well if you showed up to class and took good notes. Test is open book.

His lectures are really interesting, I really learned a lot in this class, but if you are planning on taking this class as a GPA booster, make sure you take really good notes, and you're an incredible writer because the two papers are worth 35% and make sure you take great notes. With that being said, he's great!

Dr. Voth is an amazing professor. He was very understanding and made adjustments when needed. He takes feedback and applies it so students can succeed. That being said, this class is not an easy A or necessarily a GPA booster. The open book quizzes are somewhat tricky, 2 papers worth 35% altogether, and weekly readings which are pass/fail.

Great prof but I believe because it was his first time teaching this course there were a few gimmicks in regards to how much time we had for the test and all that. He is a bit of a hard marker so you really have to work for it if you want an A in this class. Great lectures and very eye opening class. Would definitely take a class with him again.

Did a block week class with Dr. Voth and had a really positive experience! He is passionate and cares about students. The project was super interesting and unique - not like anything else I've encountered in uni so far. No textbook which I appreciate for affordability, lots of readings posted to D2L but its to be expected with a week-long class.

I have never had a more positive experience with a professor. Dr. Voth encourages creative thinking, and he responds to students' ideas in ways that help develop the ideas; he never puts down an idea. The readings he includes in his classes are very illuminating. I hope I can take more classes with him. (note: this class is called POLI 408 now).

He conducts his lectures in an organized, informative, and interesting fashion that you seldom experience in university. Voth, through the course, spends time communicating and developing positionality on the broad topic of indigeneity. It's one of those lectures you're excited to attend and one that's actually applicable to life.

Seriously. Take this course. It is challenging and interesting and the only class I wanted to attend. Voth is passionate and organized in how he teaches, and he actually cares about the concepts he's discussing. If you want a class where you don't fall asleep, this is the one. He's good at his job. His TA, Ryan, is brutal at grading, but fair.

He is very friendly and is honestly a great prof. The first exam was BRUTAL but the second was good. If you want to do well on exams WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS IN LECTURES. If you dont show up to class you wont pass.

I really really enjoyed taking Dr Voths class. He was very kind, funny and you could tell he was passionate about the subject he was teaching. Professor Voth is engaging and passionate about the course material. While the workload is heavy, especially with the readings, it's an enlightening class. Attend regularly and use resources like Unstuckstudy to prepare - you'll learn a lot.

Dr. Voth is a phenomenal professor who really cares about the content he teaches. 408 is a great course I highly recommend taking for anyone. I took it as an option course and had no background experience in political science/writing (engineering) however Dr. Voth made the content accessible for everyone and his passion made lectures fly by. 10/10

Daniel was very approachable when you had questions or concerns about the course. As it was a block week class attendance was mandatory. It is an experiential class so be prepared to be unprepared. I would take another class with this professor.

Dr. Voth is abundantly knowledgable and approachable. The issue I experienced in POLI 408 arose from my group and their lack of motivation to complete the tasks at hand efficiently. This is what made the class heavy. Though, groups that divided the workload seemed to really enjoy the course structure. The deadlines extend past "block week" itself.

Personally, POLI 408 with Voth has been one of my favourite classes as an undergraduate. He encourages you to think outside the box and genuinely question the systems and institutions that govern our society. It is for this teaching approach for why I write such a well regarded review.
