Daniel Wang is hard to understand and unprepared. His tests are almost identical to practice tests that he provides, but otherwise you woule be lost. The book is no help either!
Easy to get an A, but not easy to understand him
Go to class. He gives in class assignments and those add up for the final score. Take the practice test as well.
Possibly the worst professor ever. Had to drop his class not because I couldn't understad hime but because he was so unprepared and made so many mistakes. It was almost like we were teaching him!
Doesnt explain things well, just jumps right into example problems. Test arent too hard, there basically the same thing as the examples he does in class. Not very helpful during office hours.
Gives many examples and is helpful when approached privately for a question. I would recommend him when you are taking MTH 132.
So far I am taking his sta 282 class and so already I think he is horrible. He can't speak english.
I'm currently in his class, and yes the practice tests are what's saving me in his class for his tests, as well as the in class assignments, it's a bit overwhelming at first, but its easy to get a good grade
This teacher makes no sense and only confuses you more when you ask for help.
Cool guy, tests not bad, somewhat hard to understand....I love it when he says the number "3".
Nice guy, but he's the Asian version of Max Headroom (he repeats...repeats). Nice sense of humor, a little hard to understand, wears a mic so you can hear him. Tries his best to help his students so he does care. Stats is boring no matter what you do.
good teacher, very difficult to understand! take the practice tests and u will at least get a B. Make sure u know about the math ur going into befire u take him
This class was fairly easy. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE ONLINE PRACTICE TEST. He is a great teacher, very helpful.

The Wang rocks! He's So funny and makes class So enjoyable to go to, just cuz of his accent("z-arva over two" lol!) And as long as you memorize the parctice tests on-line you'll pass with flying colors!
Study the practice tests and you should do fine. I failed the first test and still got a B. He's willing to help the students.
layed back, test are fair. he's not to good at the english though.
He is hard to understand but you get use to it *arpha* But he is a good teacher and really wants you to do well. His tests arent bad and he will even show you pictures of him in class. I would take him again!!
good guy, tries hard, arva- nuff said
very hard to hear and understand... class isnt too bad though, gets very annoyed when you cant understand him, but he doesnt speak good english...
Does not speak good English at all, we spend half of class asking each other what he just said. The exams are on-line before the test so you can study that and pass the test. He doesn't collect all homework either.
Simple tests as long as you memorize the multiple choice part of the practice exams and have a little clue what you're doing. Very hard to understand in class though unless you have an easy time deciphering accents.
Take the practice tests that are online. Most of the questions are identical so if you can just remember the answers u are fine. Says crazy things like "IDEER" and calls theta sigma. Trys hard, just doesnt do the whole english thing well. Quiz everyday, very easy, just a Q from the book. Easy A.
Really hard to understand...can be kind of funny at times. He pronounces alpha as "arpha". Tests are super easy if you memorize his practice exams.
not very helpful, stares at the questions for 10 minutes before answering, as a professor, he's not very good at teaching, i learned more from our book than from him.
Not too bad...It's true he doesn't speak very good english, but he is very fair and knows what hes doing. Class moves at a good speed. If you have to take this class, hes not teaching it after next semester!
Terrible. He explains things well in class and the homework is easy, but nothing on exams is related to class work at all! No clue as to how to communicate with students and he often came to class without any idea how to do the examples he wants to show us!! By the book and study on your own!
Easiest A I have ever received, just memorize the practice tests online. Very hard to understand though and his microphone never worked.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! He doesn't speak english, so he doesn't understand when he is asked a question and it's hard trying to understand him.
AVOID! This man is possibly the WORST teacher that I have ever encountered. I am an A student, so I am credible, and I am majoring in math. This man Makes you teach yourself because he has no idea how to teach. AVOID and save yourself the swift kick in your grade that he may provide
Wang is awesome. Granted, it is a little rough understanding what he is saying now and then but it is no big deal. What matters are that his tests, with the same questions, are given online he gives A TON of in class quizzes (which are open book open group) and only collects homework once or twice.
learned nothing and barely studied, but got a B+. good class? you decide.
Horrible teacher, and you cant understand him.
Shouldn't have been that hard of a class, but I struggled to get a B-. Not very helpful, so hard to understand, and his grader sucks.
Well...he sucks his grader sucks, the language barrier is ridiculous. If you memorize the pratice exams you should pass class I got B+. He doesn't help, you teach yourself. Watch out for his words and how you interpret them, I know I had to. Horrible guy but easy class!
hard to understand but barely any homework, daily quizzes that are easy to get credit for, lots of extra credit, and exams are almost exact copies of the practice exam he gives online...overall a good teacher
He was not too bad. Easy class.
Shouldn't have been that hard of a class, but I struggled. Not very helpful, so hard to understand, and his grader sucks
NO NO NO NO NO! donot ever take him!!! especially summer!!! u'll die in yr hw.
Like everyone says, the most terrible teacher of all time. I went to Central last year, failed his class. Im at Ferris now and im doing fine, but out of all of the teachers ive had, he is bar none the worst ever. Dont take him, no matter what, ever...
TERRABLE, SUCKS, STU..D, I hated this class this professor made me change my minor.TERRABLE, when things got tough, he SUCKED as a teacher. He never fully answers questions and never bothers to find other ways to explain things. If you get him for Business Calculus, you best hope you can get right on out.
Has no idea what he is teaching -- I have never been to a class where one of the students didnt have to correct him. The material he taught was easy, but he made it hard and confusing. To get a good grade, all I would say is read the book--teach yourself--and do the practice tests online.
He sucks, TERRABLE, SUCKS, STU..D, I hated this class this professor made me change my minor.TERRABLE, when things got tough, he SUCKED as a teacher. He never fully answers questions and never bothers to find other ways to explain things. If you get him for Business Calculus, you best hope you can get right on out.
this guy is not good at all. he does'nt seem interested at all in the class or the subject. Students have to correct him a lot. the only good thing is the online homework. Don't even count on going to office hours...you wont get nothing out of it.
Oh wow... this teacher is very horrid. I love math, but he is a horrible teacher. It is very hard to understand what he is talking about, and he just randomly goes off on tangents, which makes it even harder. All of the homework is done online though, and they will lead you through examples, so there really is not reason that you can't pass.
Save yourself the touble by not taking this guy. He is terrible. He speaks very broken english so it makes his lectures very tough to follow. His notes are scattered and dont cover what the homework is on. All work is done online and can take forever to finish. He doesn't really care for the students, class is unorganized. Find someone else!
wow... this teacher is very horrible. He is a horrible teacher. It is very hard to understand what he is talking about, which makes it harder. Stupied mean , have no clue, most of the stuidents in the class know more than him, and keep correcting him in the class. STUPIED
Thought he was a pretty good teacher. Uses the claculator for mostly everything. All homework is online with examples and help on how to do the problems. Tests look exactly like the homework so if you do the homework and learn from it, you will do good in this class.
he is the easiest teacher, everything is done on the calculator, and hw is online. tests r just like the hw, so no reason to get below an A. i suck at math and hate it, and i managed A. take him!!
Nice professor, and easy A!
His ability is with his knowing the subject and assuming that everyone else has this knowledge.
Very difficult to understand. very rude when asking a question. doesn't give a direct or specific answer. recommend taking this class at a community college whereas professors will take time to explain.
his accent is terrible. it takes awhile to pick up on it. he really knowledgeable it the subject, so much so that he doesn't feel the need to go prepare for lecture and relies on students. lame.
His accent is hard to understand at first, but once you get the hang of it you're good. He does all the work with calculators and all the tests are based off of Math XL so they are not hard at all. Sometimes classes were a bit disorganized, but if you attend, take notes, and do the homework then no reason to not get a good grade.
Homework is online and is pretty easy. Exams are just like homework, but were very difficult for me. He is very very hard to understand, the class is very boring. He just takes notes for you to write down... I basically taught myself in this class, so I would not suggest taking it with him!
Extremely hard to understand, you have to reteach yourself everything he goes over, homework is easy only because of the program, exams are outrageous, our first exam the class average was a 60%... I don't recommend taking him!
You will have to teach yourself.
TERRIBLE, Doesn't teach you anything. You have to teach yourself everything. Doesn't go over H.W. or explain anything during class and you have no clue/idea what's on the test... DO NOT TAKE HIM PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!
Incredibly hard to understand, you will HAVE to teach yourself. DO THE ONLINE HOMEWORK! It's a grade saver. Left the class learning absolutely nothing, and retained zip. Go to class though, there's in class quizzes that save your butt.
So hard to understand. Do not take this class.
I have never failed a class in my life until this one. First of all the homework takes a minimum of 5-6 hours a week. You have to teach yourself everything. Honestly I do not understand how this man got a teaching degree. Save yourself and don't take this class.
May be the worst teacher at Central Michigan. Struggles with English, homework and teaching directly from online presentations. Terrible.
He has a hard accent to understand and he sometimes rambles off the topic and you might not know what he's talking about. Please don't take him for your own sake. Unless your good at math. If you aren't then don't take him. It's seriously brutal. Literally worst thing ever. Never would I take him again. Not even if there was a fire.
He is the worst math professor I've ever had. He is extremely difficult to understand, is not accessible to students for help, doesn't answer emails, and his lectures are the most pointless thing in the world. I only go to lectures because he has daily assignments at the end of class. His exams are easy as long as you do the homework.
Professor Wang has a thick accent and likes to go off in tangents. Class isn't mandatory, but he hands out little participation assignments at the end of lecture. He reopened all our homework assignments at the end of the semester and gave extra assignments. Although lectures were pointless, I would take him again because he's such a nice guy.
Horrible teacher. Never failed a class until his class and he was the entire reason why I was put on academic suspension. Don't take this guy whatever you do.
LITERALLY THE WORST PROFESSOR AT CMU. I have never been so confused in my life in any of my other classes at Central. He brings handouts to class everyday, and I'm pretty sure this is the first time he actually looks at the handouts himself. Takes him 50 minutes to get through a 5 minute example. Absolutely HORRIBLE. Avoid at all costs!!!!
Although hard to understand at times, Dr. Wang is very knowledgeable on statistics. He gives extra homework that works as extra credit, and will stay after to help those who struggle. Get ready for a lot of online homework every week!
I'm a global campus student who has taken MANY online classes. Dr. Wang is by far the WORST communicator I've had thus far - simply because he just doesn't care to respond or communicate, whatsoever. If you can avoid taking him, please do. He gives a ton of homework (I expect some, but not that much) and lack of response leaves you a bit lost.
The only reason i would take his class again because it is so easy to me as i am very successful with math courses. If you have a hard time with math, STAY AWAY FROM PROF WANG. Nobody can understand a word he is saying. Going to class is completely pointless besides the fact that he threatens to take away participation pts. Horrible teacher.
If you do not want around 10 hours of homework each week, stay away from this professor. Very unhelpful and class is pointless, i taught myself everything. You will never be able to understand him while he is teaching. Somehow have a B+ but thats because i spend 10 hours a week doing hw for this class...
He is a VERY nice guy, but he is EXTREMELY hard to understand. If you need extra help he will give you a lot in office hours and after class.
I took his online class. He does not communicate with anyone. He just tells you what to do and expects you to do it. He never offered help. His exams are hard and sometimes they barely touch examples that you went over. Do not take this class unless you want to teach yourself how to do things.
Highly recommend, he goes through each problem with you if you pay attention it will be easy. Everything is in statcrunch including exams, it's all memorization. two weekly homework assignments that don't take too long and a very nice guy, sometimes hard to understand but with the occasional trip to the math lab this class is an easy A.
Go to every lecture and it will pay off in the end, do all homework assignments and if you miss any HW after its due go to him and he will open it back up for you, go to his office hours when help is needed, know how to do the homework and study it, self taught class, hard to understand accent, and go to math tutoring!!!!!
Sometimes tough to understand but you can tell that he always knew exactly what he was talking about, also is energetic about the subject. Doesn't use Blackboard, all homework and tests/exams are on WebAssign. Not always available by email either and sometimes his class runs over the time, 3+ minutes. Always does best to answer questions.
Take this class. Do it. Super easy A, you do everything online through a stats program, so not much real math. Lots of homework assignments, but you go over them in class and the tests (which are online) are made from old homework questions. He can be kind of hard to understand at first, but you get used to his accent quickly.
I took Math 132 in CMU global campus, he is the man for the math. After long time i took math class, I glad i took classes with him. he will provide extra credit, but there is lots of home work, of course you are taking a Calculus class will be lots of homework. All home work , mid exam, and all the quiz ware online, only final exam was in class.
Overall, really not a horrible prof by any means. Homework was tough but manageable as he gave lots of good in-class examples. Major drawback is his organizational skills though, they're awful. Has to repeatedly post materials on Blackboard because the first document was incorrect/missing etc.
Doesnt respond to emails. Huge language barrier. Homework every week that can be easily done.
Dr. Wang is pretty decent for 580, but for 590 he was awful. This class made me want to cry. Honestly, good luck trying to figure out what's due each day because he doesn't even know.
Professor Wang means nothing but the best, and it shows in his class, but at times it is difficult to understand. Quizzes and exams are taken in class on your laptop, and most of the times you can use notes and StatCrunch which makes things easier. A lot of homework though. All in all, he has good intentions but it'll take some real effort to pass
Dr. Wang is great professor and wants all his student's to succeed. There is alot of homework but it will prepare you for the tests. He will even give extensions on the homework. Give real afford and you will do great .
Took MTH132 (Calc I) Online as a summer class. There is a lot of homework but it's all online and doesn't count toward your final grade. Quizzes and test weren't too hard. I took Pre-Calc and AP Calc in high school so I did have some prior knowledge which helped. The final exam is not hard either. Would recommend taking if you have time.
Unhelpful: Provides no actual instruction; not one lecture, supplemental material or even an email asking students how they are faring. Inattentive: assignments for the week not released for work on time, sometimes not until after the assignment is pat due. Uncommunicative: does not respond to emails for days, a week, in one case a week & a half.
Stay away from Professor Wang. You will spend way too much time doing homework that he does not even know how to teach. Lectures take a long time and he spends almost 4 hours doing 2-5 in class questions and only ends up confusing the class more. Grading is not clear. There is no way to know your grade until the end. I would not recommend him.
Do NOT take his class. There is a ton of homework, which is manageable sometimes. You will spend at least 15-20 hours outside of class working on assignments. I had to teach myself everything through examples and youtube. He does open up old assignments and quizzes but it is not worth it. His english is poor and his grading is VERY unclear.
This class was terrible overall. He expects you to put in 20+ hours of work for just this class alone. Very little help from the prof and the grading process is very unclear. You don't get your actual grade until the end of the term. Many students struggled with the online format, and the prof was inflexible with deadlines given circumstances.
I would try to avoid this teacher. His lectures are confusing and half the time he doesnt know what hes doing. Everyone in the class has no idea what he is talking about, but he grades pretty lienient which is a good thing because if he wasnt then everyone would fail.
Doesn't teach you how to do any of the calculations. Does not know how to respond to emails. He would log off in the middle of the course because he doesn't know how to solve the problem. You will not know your grade because nothing is in the grade book.
WORST prof ever! So unorganized, doesn't answer emails, no information for assignments. He never knows when an assignment is due and gives you very little time to complete hw. No grades or feedback. Group assignments but no way to get in touch with anyone if you're online and no information if you do class in person. Do not take!!!
I would not take stats with this professor. Teaches straight out of the textbook and does not actually show you how to do the problems. Multiple homework and quiz assignments each week that take a long time to complete. I don't feel like I learned anything in this class.
He talks so quiet that you literally can never hear him. He spends half the class figuring out what his own notes mean. He never responds to emails. Avoid at all costs.
Do not take a class with this professor. He talks so quietly you can barely hear him. All of his due dates on blackboard were at least 3-5 semesters old. You will not know what your grade is at all throughout the course. He had to relearn the material in class as he was teaching it, and frequently provided wrong answers to homework questions.
He did not seem familiar with the course material or required programs whatsoever. Homework was assigned before going over the concepts in class (or were never discussed at all). A lot of self-teaching and then adapting based on how he wants it, but there is extremely minimal feedback on assignments/exams. In-class activities nearly every class.
This professor didn't know what he was doing in class. He would skip over examples in lecture since he didn't know how to do them. He also couldn't communicate clearly with the class; everyone I talked to in the class said he was confusing and was hard to reach even during his office hours.
Couldn't understand him, doesn't speak english. You can't see your grade until the semester is done. He told us all of our work was on Pearson, and a lot of kids missed assignments on blackboard and weren't able to make them up.
Can't understand him whatsoever between how quietly he talk & his accent, he constantly gets confused by questions and answers incorrectly and we have to watch him reteach himself how to do it in real time, he assigns >8 hours of assignments/homework every week, and you can't even see your grade until the class is over. for sure avoid if possible.
easy course
I took this class online, and the homework is insane. Significantly more than all of my 300-level classes, expect to spend at least 10-15 hours a week if you take this online. If one problem set has "30 questions," good luck because it actually has 150 questions inside of those questions. There are usually at LEAST 8 problem sets/week.
Everything was on Pearson I easily had 20 assignments a week with around 10-15 questions each. The questions had multiple parts, probably spent 8-10 hours every Sunday doing all the assignments. However no lockdown browser, no Webex, no screen monitoring the entire semester. So really it was a win tbh.
He speaks so quietly, and when you can hear him, what he's saying is utterly unhelpful. Extremely inaccessible outside of class and deadlines are often unclear. Doesn't care about helping students learn. The only way to get through this course is to make friends and stick together through the trials and tribulations of STA 590. Avoid at all costs.
