Very hard. Tests are hard enough to make you want to go postal. Is kind of understanding and can be very helpful in times of pinches. Is very interesting and makes the class interesting but his tests are killer.
Excellent lecturer. Keeps topics interesting. Horrible test maker. Usually has an eassy section with hidden requirements. Typically half the class drops, and curves are non-existant.
One of the greatest lecturers I've had. His classes are so entertaining you don't want to miss them. There aren't many tests and they are extremely hard. The class is worth the challenge.
He is awesome. His classes are fun and you'll never want to miss them. His tests are hard, but you definitely learn the material. By the way, he's NOT intimidating.
Do not take his class if you are not willing to put the time into studying for his tests.(Half of my class dropped by the end of the semester.) Otherwise, he is a great teacher and has a very memorable class.
he is not a good professor at all! His tests are unfair and have "hidden requirements" - if you can regurgitate what he has said, you will get a decent grade - but doesn't expect students to be able to think on their own.
he's an awesome cat! :)
He is probably my favorite teacher ever. He makes you learn, but offers lots of extra credit and makes class so much fun that you always want to go. I only studied the night before tests and ended up with a 96 in the class...but I am a Psych major.
had him for social psy...he's so entertaining and a great teacher....
Dr Wann is one of the best teachers I have had. Class attendance is not required by him, but everyone goes because he is hilarious, plus he pretty much bases his tests off of the lecture. His tests aren't easy, but they aren't that bad either. Plus he offers extra credit - take advantage of that!
dr, wann is an awesome professor. his tests are hard but he tells you they are going to be so there is no suprise. He is very funny and the class is very interesting. You must study in order to succeed.
I ended up having to drop the class. His tests were just based on memorization of his lectures about his previous experimentations, not the actual material. I HATED his class and in the end changed my minor because of it. Sadness...
I love this man! His tests were challenging but he's so fun. I could listen to him for hours.
Very good teacher. He explains with clarity making sure everyone can understand. If you go to Murray get as many classes with Wann as possible.
One of my absolute favorite classes. While his tests will destroy you if you don't know how to study, you'll keep coming back for his fantastic lectures.
Best psych class I've taken so far . . . he's an awesome teacher and could make it fun to watch paint dry. I'd reccomend him to anyone, even non-majors. However, studying is crucial in this class: his tests are super-hard.
awesome class. killer tests. study study study! 15+ hours to get an A.
His lectures are good, but his tests represent all that is evil. For the most part he seemed like a nice guy, but don't ever expect to be excused for missing class, except for maybe your own funeral, and even that is not guaranteed. You can ask anyone who tried to be excused for a funeral of a relative or close friend.
Dr. Wann is super hard, but such a great lecturer. I had social with him and HATED it. Tests were killer. He's not lying when he says you need like 20 hours to study. I took I&O and it was great. Much easier, but still hard compared to other classes I've had. He's a really nice guy too. No papers, just tests. A play in Social and groups in I&O.
He is an excellent teacher as far as clarity and entertainment go. You'll love him. But you'll probably hate him after a test, unless you have an eidetic memory. My first C (almost a D) in college, Junior Status. Study at least 20hr/test minimum.
Great class, but you must study a ton. I would recommend studying after the first couple of lectures, and audio-recording them helped me out a lot. Be able to recite your notes before you take a test.
I loved Dr. Wann throughout the semester until a conversation in his office changed my perception completely. After losing my grandmother in a horrendous car accident days earlier I commented that under the circumstances I was proud of my grade...his response to the death was life happens. How thoughful!! Cold hearted SOB!!
Great teacher! Very helpful and a very entertaining class. I loved going to the class even though it was an 8am class. Tests forced me to audit though. You must study at least 20 hours per test and be able to teach back your notes. Audio-recording is a great idea. Take good notes. Attendance not mandatory but cant pass without it. Would recommend.
please do yourself a favor and avoid this teacher. he gave me attitude because I wanted to take his class and I am not a psych major. he also never uses the textbook and his tests are extremely hard and picky picky picky.
I had Dr. Wann for three classes. He's an amazing teacher. His tests are brutal and you really have to study for it, but it's worth it in the long run because you really learn a lot.
He is an amazing teacher! Doesn't require attendance but noone ever misses because he makes it so fun! his tests are HORRIBLE! study AT LEAST 20 hours for each test. he says/expects you to "know the material well enought that you could get in front of a high school and teach it yourself". The tests are crazy hard, strict grader! still recommended!
My favorite teacher by far. He is really great in class, and makes it easy to like the material. The tests are difficult but not horrible, and you have time to study since he usually doesn't assign homework at all. Write down everything he says, study it until you really know it. Lastly, whenever the course is over you'll find you actually learned.

When will professors learn that making a "hard test" is not the same as making a "good test"? I can make any test so hard that it will cause people to cry, but all I've done is made a hard test. So what? Wann is one other person I credit with killing my interest in psychology as a major.
I'd recommend taking this class over the summer. average grades are about a letter grade higher. The material's interesting & Dr. Wann REALLY knows his stuff. He's really funny and makes it fun to learn. A tape recorder was absolutely essential for me to get an A in the class. Lots of studying, lots of effort, little sleep, but you'll learn a LOT!
Do what he tells you on the first day of class, you have to study every night, and type out your notes, and go and see him if you have any questions,it's enjoyable and entertaining but it's not easy.
This is a fun class and its easy he gives extra credit and if you have taken PSY 303 with him this class is a cake walk because a lot of material overlaps so its easier to remember. Type out your notes and ask questions, and study every night and its an A.
This class was entertaining but it wasn't as easy as some believed. Just treat it like any other class with wann and your sure to get an A. Take notes, study every night,do the extra credit, and ask questions
Take it during the summer! The 2 weeks will be hell but the grades are an average grade higher than a full semester. You have to study, he isn't kidding about 20 hours per test, really a couple of hours after every couple of lectures, minimum. Lecture is interesting, tests difficult, but he isn't intimidating or mean.
hard but fun and interesting class. Dr. Wann makes me want to learn.
Dr. Wann is hilarious! He makes the material intersting and fun to learn! Loved the class! Tests are hard and stressful, so if you wont study, I dont suggest you take this course
Very interesting.Stuck to my major because of the class.Has high expectations, but honestly wants students to succeed and will help them to do so. Biggest tip for tests is be thorough and then some.He blantantly overemphasizes things to be on the test in class. TAKE NOTES!!!
This class was surprisingly challenging. I found out how much more I needed to study after the first test. Bottom line: READ THE BOOK! Dr. Wann wrote the thing so it will be on the test guaranteed. He gives great lectures and is highly entertaining. Kept me up at 8 AM, which is a feat.
His tests are HARD. He isn't kidding when he says you need to study a minimum of 20 hours for each test. He's a great teacher, he just holds his students to exceptionally high standards, but he truly WANTS to see his students do well. Memorize your notes, be extremely thorough on the tests, and STUDY. Very interesting class.
Class and Test are easy if you have good study habits. Just be detailed in your answers and define everything. He enjoys helping you during office hours. The clarity is awesome considering he has been living, breathing this topic for a long time now. I will continue to listen to his lectures on my phone after I graduate!
Dr. Wann is an excellent professor. It's not easy to take his classes, and you have to study your butt off, but he is so funny and he is very understanding and will work with you when you have a problem. I very much so enjoyed taking his class.
tests are BRUTAL horrible really and he has no empathy but he knows when a student is really trying you have to go see him hes very open and willing to help he seems very unapproachable and every time i go in to see him i get nervous but each outcome has been decent he defiantly speaks his mind
By far the best professor I have ever had. I don't think it's possible to have a professor as clear as Dr. Wann. Just know every word that comes out of his mouth and you will get an A. Which is really not very hard. Sure If takes more than 5 hours the night before to learn but that doesn't mean on a conceptual level it's difficult.
On the first day, he tells us this will not be an easy class. That was definitely true. His tests involve thinking. You can't just give a simple answer to his essay questions (1 big, 2 small ones on each test). You need to elaborate on them! Overall, he's an amazing teacher and was always open to help. I definitely recommend him for class!
Excellent teacher. He is very clear and helpful. Recommend if you have a real interest in learning.
Dr. Wann is by far the best teacher I've ever had. He tells you from day one how hard his class is and what needs to be done to pass. If you do exactly what he says, you'll pass with no problem. He knows how to make his lectures very engaging, which is what makes them so enjoyable. I would take his class again in a heartbeat.
He says the first day of class that his class is very difficult. Here was my strategy A strategy: 1. Record his lectures using Notability 2. Take good notes and TYPE OUT THE NOTES WHEN YOU GET HOME 3. Have some1 ask you the notes 4. When you can read your entire note packet without looking, you are ready for the exams. Great prof would take again
Everyone hears the horror stories of Dr. Wann before taking social psych. Some are warranted, others not so much. He does expect a lot of students, but it is more than manageable. Just take his advice he gives on day one and STUDY STUDY STUDY. Also don't be afraid to ask questions or go to his office. He is extremely helpful.
Dr. Wann is an amazing psych teacher BUT be prepared to study your ass off; at least 20 hours (not joking) before each test. Know the material or you will do horrible. Show up to class, participate in extra credit opportunities and record your lectures (they are HILARIOUS!!), type them and print out, STUDY and you will be good!
Dr. Wann is an excellent teacher. Yes, he is a little scary at first but it gets better. His lectures are great & he provides really good examples. But you MUST never miss class. If you do, you're screwed. Taking notes during the lecture as well as recording the lecture will save you on tests. Overall, I loved taking him and would again.
People say Dr. Wann is ridiculously hard, but in reality, he just wants you to legitimately know the material and put effort into the class. If you put effort into studying and do everything he suggests you to do to be successful, you will be. Yes the class is difficult but it is worth it and also extremely entertaining! He is a fantastic teacher.
Terrible class, waste of money, time, effort. If you don't have to have it, do not take it. Dr. Wann is comical, but the material is lame. Social Psyc is somewhat of a joke in the real world, so it's a completely unnecessary course. The material is complicated, and the tests are almost completely SA, which bites!! He is a very tough grader.
I LOVED this class. Dr. Wann is a tough grader but his classes are very interesting. Just be sure to record lectures and listen to them often. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities which helps bring your grade up. Dont be intimidated by his class, the material is very fun and interesting!
This man is such a hoot and a holler. He really knows what he is talking about. He has the best stories to go along with what he is teaching and is so so so funny. I am not a morning person at all whatsoever, but I was more than willing to wake up for his class. But you HAVE to study hard for his tests, they can kill your grade.
I took his social psych class this summer and I LOVED him. He's hilarious and if you just study, you'll be fine. I wrote my notes, recorded lectures, listened on the way home, and then typed out my notes. He really just wants you to actually know the material. I would definitely take Wann again.
It really does not get better than Dr. Wann. Students are mad about short answer tests that you ACTUALLY have to study for. He values learning and it shows. Take notes during lecture, record and re-listen to lectures while rewriting notes. It's challenging but not impossible. This is the type of learning that is worth my tuition money.
Wonderful speaker. His tests are hard but if you study (a lot), you might be fine. Hes super funny. I definitely suggest taking Dr. Wann but if you dont want to spend time studying, dont take him.
My favorite professor in this department. Hes tough but fair. If you do not want to work dont take his class. But getting an A in one of his classes is the most satisfying feelings you will ever get in your undergrad. 10/10 would take again!
Talks down to students and tries too hard to be funny.
Dr. Wann is my favorite at Murray. I took his 2 week long summer class. You don't need a book, but ALWAYS record lectures during class as you write notes, then go home and listen to the recording and type the notes. STUDY STUDY STUDY! You probably won't pass with an A unless you're crazy good at tests, but he's an amazing and hilarious professor!
Took this class during the 2 week May semester. It was online (COVID). It was very fast and A LOT of material. I took the advice of others on here and listened to lectures, took my own notes on the lectures, read my own notes. Repeat until you are dreaming about the lectures and then you will rock the exams. He is super nice and I loved the class.
Dr. Wann was a great professor for my Honors Intro Psychology class. He doesn't care if you come to class, but all of his material is taught by lecture and his tests are tough. But he's super funny and makes sure you understand what is going on!
10/10 recommend Dr. Wann. I was the only person that showed up to a Zoom meeting one time and he just sat and decided to talk to me about life for the whole hour instead of any psychology. Ended up with a 102.37% in the class. Hes a very fun and genuinely caring dude. Tips: 1) Take notes on Word so they are searchable, 2) Make examples as you go.
The class is hard but he is a great professor. He wants you to do well and never makes a student feel ashamed or embarrassed to get a question wrong. He is very intelligent and knows what hes talking about. Also stresses that he is always available in his office and will look over your notes to prepare you for exams. 10/10
Hes an awesome professor. He has no powerpoints. All notes are from spoken lecture. Attendance isnt mandatory but wont get needed notes if missed. He is very good at explaining the different topics but grades his test really hard. He will give extra credit so people will pass
Dr. Wann has been my favorite professor since I have been at Murray State. His classes are all lectured based, but they are extremely interesting and funny. His class was fun and worth getting up early for. If you have the chance to take Dr. Wann, DO IT. His tests are difficult, but as long as you study your lecture notes, you will do fine.
Best professor I've ever had, lectures were really good. Really tough grader, take him seriously when he says to study a minimum of 20 hours per test.
Dr. Wann is one of my favorite professors. Really helpful and cares about making sure the material is burned into your brain. If you fail his first test, dont panic, but if you dont want to fail a test, take him seriously when he says study a minimum of 20 hours and know ALL your notes by heart. Great class and really interesting.
Great lecturer. Also, a d!ck.
Dr. Wann is a teacher through and through. To do well in his class you have to know and understand how the concepts work. Go to office hours for advice & questions, answer things in class even if you dont know. If you care, and show him that you care, then he cares too. He knows his stuff and will help any way that he can. Best in the department!
Def explains stuff so you can understand it but you really do need to understand it for the tests
Dr. Wann is currently my favorite teacher. He scares me, but he is currently my favorite teacher. Enough said?
Dr Wann is an amazing professor who you can tell loves what he does. He gives great lectures that really help you understand the material. He is funny and I looked forward to going to each class. As long as you take good notes and memorize them completely you will do good on the tests. Also, tests are your only grade in there :)
Dr. Wann was a fantastic professor and I would take him again in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity. His tests are slightly harder than other classes but he provides ample opportunity for extra credit such that it won't be an issue as long as you take notes and study. His lectures are engaging, hilarious, and meaningful.
His exams truly aren't that bad, the multiple choice is easy and the free response questions are pretty self explanatory. His lectures are probably the best lectures to be had at Murray State University and he's a really nice individual if you have anything come up. No make up exams tho, only a final which is a bit annoying. Loved him though.
If you transferred, like I did, GO TO HIM. Go speak with him. Don't do what I did and wait. He's not a bad guy, and I really mean that. He doesn't sugarcoat things and he has high expectations for his students, but they're not impossible. Oh, study 20 hours a week he's not joking. Dr. Wann, I know you're reading this, thank you for the wake-up call
This professor is not asian; he's a 6 ft something white dude which is weird since you might expect otherwise. You need to know how to take good notes from just him talking, but he makes the 2 and a half hour lecture worth it. Dr Wann is slightly unorthodox for an honors professor, but he's funny, crass, and has weird stories from his younger days.
Hands down the best professor I have taken. Just be sure to study and do it often because tests are hard.
Wann is an awesome professor. His tests are SOO hard though, when he says study for 20 hours, he means it. That's seriously the only way to pass his class. There are only three grades he puts in, so if you fail the first test you're kinda screwed. His lectures are really entertaining though!
Dr. Wann is an amazing professor. He wants his students to succeed but uses an old-school approach to prepare students for their future. If you enroll be prepared to work hard, pay attention, go to lectures, and study alot and you will do well. Dr. Wann is also super helpful outside of the classroom for extra help and offers a lot of extra credit.
Dr. Wann likes to create his class to become a "cult" and takes pride in psyc students having to "go through him" to graduate. Only 3 grades in the course, all exams. He does provide extra credit, but it's not enough to make up for the difficult exams. He only tells you to study for 20 hours. Test are insane. If you think you can pass, you can't.
Dr. Wann is a legend among men. He's by far the best professor whom I've had the pleasure of interacting with in the psych department. With that being said, he expects excellence. He doesn't give out grades freely. They're earned. Most people either do very well on his tests or fail them. He doesn't give out C's too often, just As, Bs, Ds, and Fs.
Attendance is not graded, but you must show up to class. Lectures are not posted online so the in-person notes are all you have; however they are thorough and helpful in studying for the tests. Make sure to study ALL your notes for the tests, and take every extra credit opportunity available and you'll be fine. Lectures are pretty entertaining.
Dr. Wann is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are captivating and keep you hooked the entire class period. In order to get a good grade, you'll need to pay attention and take good notes. Don't just write down the definitions, write examples. Study all of your notes for the exam and do not be unprepared.
I took 303 as a freshman, it was not easy, however dr. wann was so helpful. He didn't sugarcoat, the course would be hard, but always gave me clarity on things I needed help with. If you listen in class, study, and GO SEE HIM when you need help, you'll be fine (it's not that hard). Dr. Wann is truly inspiring and he's one of my favorite professors
I had 4 exams in this class and no homework. Dr. Wann is the best professor I've had, by far, in my time in college. He explains things extremely thoroughly, and my best advice is to record the lectures. Record them!!! Listen back two or three times and rewrite notes. Take the time to understand, study 15 hrs a week, and you will pass with an A.
I love this man. He is the funniest professor I've ever had and he genuinely makes you care about what he's teaching. Literally just show up, record lectures, and study for the tests and you'll be fine. If I could take this class again I would.
PSY 405 isn't particularly hard if you show up to class, take high-quality notes, and study 10+ hours for the exams. Though it's not a Herculean task, getting a good grade in this class is a great accomplishment as Dr. Wann never give freebies and tests for true knowledge. For what it's worth, he's also funnier in this one than social psych.
He is genuinely my favorite professor on campus. His tests are difficult, but as long as you re-listen to his lectures and take good notes, you'll be fine. Your grade is only made up of four test grades and your participation in psychology studies, but he does offer extra credit!
