He is by far the worst professor of all time. He is rude, mean and full of himself, and his off the wall political ideas.
Hated this class, the tests were absolutly horrible. He only has one view on things and that is his way. Hated this class

Absolutely horrible professor; I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy. He's passive-aggressive, snooty and resentful towards students. Insanely hard exams and subjectively graded, so if he doesn't like you (and chances are he won't), you'll do poorly.
Nerdy guy that is very hard. Thinks is the god of the school, probably hasn't gotten laid his whole life so he takes it out on students that don't care about his class. Don't take him if you want your gpa above 2.5

If I ever have a kid, I'll use Warner's class as punishment.
I'm amused so many people hate the guy... I thought his zeal for teaching, law, and so many other things (npr :D) were great. And really people his tests weren't THAT hard, I got a b+ with the blink of an eye.

He took a class that I was looking forward to taking and turned it into one hour of pure Hell M-TH. Take Olson or even go to Watcom and take it do not go to his class! Trust me IT is that bad.
The class really isn't as bad as what so many people say it is. Warner shows a lot of interest and enthusiasm in the topic by using the "happy" approach. Seriously though, getting a B in the class only requires that you show up every day and take notes.
His management 271 class is ridiculous. The tests are nearly impossible...if at all possible take this class with someone else (although preferably not Goetzel either).
I took this a couple of years ago. While, I agree that it's hard... if you buy his study guide and follow it, read the cases thoroughly as well as the text, you should do fine. I think its an interesting class that everyone should take even if they dont plan on going into business.

Everyone hates him, he's not HORRIBLE. He does like to intimidate you, but what can you expect from an ex attorney?!? Read his study guide, and type up your notes, and use your COMMON sense... and you should be good.
Awful teacher. Highest grade in the class was an 82%. He did curve it but something is wrong when the highest grade is an 82%
Avoid him like the Plague!!! The guy is a really good lecturer but his tests are hard as hell! Not very friendly when you talk to him one on on either. Find someone else...
he's crazy. I don't think former lawyers should be teachers...sometimes I wonder where Western gets these teachers. The subject is interesting, textbook is all right, lectures ...well I was asleep (HE KICKS PEOPLE OUT OF CLASS IF YOU FALL ASLEEP)...tests are horrible.
Bad teacher. very intimidating and not helpful to students at all. Tests are incredibly hard. I think warner wants his students to fail.
I've only heard bad comments about him before taking it his class. But in reality he's not that bad. I loved the class and the subject matter and prof. Wagner is not that bad. The guy is passionate about what he teaches and has his oppinions but who wouldn't when the subject is law and business.
Prof. Warner is a very enthusiastic teacher, and GREAT... until test time. You can tell he knows a lot about law, but he's one of those professors who like the sound of their voice too much, and he's very unreasonalbe on the tests! Don't take the class from him if you want a good grade.
WOW! Thought that i was going to fail after the first two test. Interesting class, but he doens't test on anything that he makes sound important. Tests will kick your butt. You have to study for 10 hours the night before, and hope you get lucky! He will give points often if you make an arguement.
Hard class overall. Read the book and take good notes and you should be fine. Make sure you come to class and present your cases, they are easy points.
horrible teacher
If you tend to skip class he is not a prof for you. He is very interesting and keeps you listening, but he tests are hard. attendence is pretty much mandatory
The subject matter is interesting, but the tests are tough. He gives you a law suit and have to interpret the law to argue the suit. Isn't that a little advanced for a 200-level survey class? Plus, there's no hints, no multiple choice, and the cheat sheets are worthless!
explains everything in great detail. if you write down his outlines from lectures and use them during tests they are not too hard. paying attention in lecture and attendance are the only way to get a good grade
My roommate complains about him all the time. His grading scale for an A is 75-100, and for a B it is 60-75, tells you something about how hard the class is, don't you think?
this is the worst professor in the whole entire University. He does not care for his students or their well being. If you need to take this class, prepare to experience his psychotic behaviors. And make sure you are prepared for his class or he will make a fool out of you.
He is good but hard
Warner's class is difficult, but I feel like I learned much more from him than I would have from the other instructor that teaches MGMT 271. He's very clear with his expectations, and everything on the test can be gleaned from his lectures and the text. Those who fail appear to fail because they've got no grounding in logical arguments.
The worst professor in the College of Business. He grades very harshly and will not compromise. I dropped his class in order to save my sanity. Registered with Olson and had fun while learning from a practicing lawyer.
WOW! I don't know what to say to ensure you that taking a class with this man is an AWFUL idea. Take it with someone else or just don't take it. I should have known when he started class with "greetings Earthlings" that I should leave. You will learn ONE thing...He HATES HATES HATES Wal-Mart! And people.

He is a good guy, just go into his office hours, he might seem unenthusiatic but you can tell he loves the subject...I am just not sure that he loves teaching it!
it is quite difficult you must know the material extensively, he told me that i got an e for effort!
You will hate this class most likely, but it's challenging. Unlike what most people will say, warner is very willing to tell you why you are wrong, and how you could have been right. If you aren't intelligent, you should probably take it at whatcom.

Worst teacher ever, his exams are horrilbe and no matter how hard you study for them, you still get a bad grade! if you take his class make sure you attend every class or you loose points.
Crazy prof with his own agenda for teaching what he thinks, not actual business law.
Somehow, I feel like this prof is overly negative and opinionated. I don't see the purpose served by insulting the entire class when some people miss the profs instructions. I guess this class would be an absolute failure in my book, except that when the prof prances around like a fairy it becomes momentarily entertaining. Something seems odd about the way he always brings up homosexual rights issues in class... wink wink...
You have your work cut out for you in this class.
I have only learned two things coming out of the class: he hates Wal-Mart and conservatives are completely opposite of their name. It doesn't matter if you attend class and read every chapter, you will not get the grade you deserve on your tests. The class is difficult and boring, and if you take it with this professor, it is a waste of time.
He is a good teacher but has his own agenda. I hate his test, No matter how hard you study you will never get the test score you want, don't take him its a horrible class to take when its with him mainly because his test are outragious.
He is a difficult teacher but he has a zeal for his work. He is very opinionated and likes to discuss topics of controversial coverage
Thinks he's funny. VERY DIFFICULT TESTS! Will make you look like an idiot if you don't know what you're talking about. Extremely liberal. Very structured lectures. I seriously recommend picking up your test and talking to him about it during office hours. You will not do well on your tests otherwise.
Worst professor I've ever had! Bar none! As an undergrad or grad student! The worst part is I took his class as an elective. I was warned not to take his class, but I really wanted to take business law. After all, how bad could it be? Bad, very, very bad. If you take his class the best you can hope for is a C, which is an F for grad students
wow....what a bunch of whiners. Perhaps you all should put down your cans of Natty Light for a while and actually take the time to understand what is going on in the book rather than just skimming through it. So suck it up and study cause Warner aint going nowhere. He may be a ****, but he knows his****. He wrote the book for chrissakes
Great teacher. Provides lots of examples and useful information. The class is not for whiners, though--i.e., you actually have to do some work and you have to think once in a while--go figure whiners!
phew...i'm glad this quarter is over.........i learned a whole lot, but had to work hard.......great teacher
WORST CLASS EVER. Expects you to be at the level of a grad student in this INTRO to business law class. What a joke! Although I did learn alot, I will NEVER take another class from this prof.
Great class. Clear and reasonable expectations. Very straighforward, interesting lectures, almost don't need to read the book. I went to Pr.Warner's office with questions and he was very helpful. My advice is to listen carefully and memorize examples, do homework (10 free points), read the study guide (a must!), don't relay on the final (very hard)
He wrote the book. Let's not confuse this with being a good prof. A good prof would have chosen a book by a different author to offer the student a better range of perspectives. He will teach you what HE thinks is important. He'll dock you points on your test because he didn't like the way you worded something. In a class of 120, he gave 5 A & A-'s
If there are any other professors that offer this course, take them. Avoid this man at all costs. One of the worst I have encountered.
I loved the glass. Learned a ton. Most people don't study, and it's true that the tests are very comprehensive, you really have to know how to apply the laws. If you study the cases in the book you should be able to at a decent level. A>75% This means the tests (graded soley on tests) are difficult, but with lots of leeway.
how come there's only one professor for this class!!? this class is freaking hard!!!
He wrote the book and expects you to know the whole thing verbatium.

Hardest class I have ever taken, but hes got teaching that class down to a science. He makes you work your butt off to get a good grade (he does have an insane curve set up anyways), but you learn a lot, worth taking if you have the time to spend on it.
He is a very hard professor and his book (that he wrote) has many errors in it. The tests are VERY hard. Would not recommend him. The material is interesting though. Be careful him and Plumlee (MGMT 311) are friends
Very difficult class! (I would advise those taking summer courses to wait until the regular school year) He is sincere about wanting his students to do well, but have got to work extremely hard. Tests are 25 points each. Our average test scores were about 13-15 out of 25. You will be expected to know the law upside down and inside out and apply it
extremely hard, practically impossible to get full credit on anything you do; he will always find a flaw in your work
Extremely hard grader, teaches by outlining book, but then you have to know the laws from every direction and how to apply them in order to get a decent grade on the essays. Currently highest grade just before the final is a 67/100 no joke. luckily he changes the curve but the last change makes it so no one has an A.
I enjoyed having Warner as a professor. He is very lively during his lectures. He makes the class interesting. One of my favorite professors so far. He calls on people at random to read a current event articles so you must go to class. His tests are ridiculously hard. Expect to get a grade or two lower than usual.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken! Tests are too long (no time to correct mistakes), graded subjectively and you have to apply the law to a half page the EXACT way he does or you get no points. Type ALL your notes and bring them to the test, look over but don't study them (it won't help), study the results of EVERY case in the book.
Although he knows the material, he expects you to know just as much in this INTRO course. His notes are just outlining the book which he wrote, so there is no alternate explanations. The self serving rants along with flapping and jumping around in front of the class doesn't provide much reason to like the guy. Half the class dropped. Avoid him.
He will find a flaw in anything you do. There are 3 or 4 comprehensive in-class essays, which seem easy when you take them, but his grading is extremely unfair. He also draws from "magic cards" everyday for current events; he has everyone's name on a card and if you get drawn, then you have to talk about a current event in Business & Law.Stay Away
DON'T TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN AVOID IT! Two of my friends who had the top grades in the class after the first two tests, got C's. Half the class dropped, and out of those who were left half FAILED! His tests are really hard, if you don't have the answer he's looking for, you get little or no credit at all.
Hardest teacher in my four years at western. He goes back on his word. Even if you can argue your point on a test, he "may" see your rationale and say he will grant you points, only to later change his mind. 4 books for one class is ludicrous. He is clearly educated, but is too biased to understand how to teach his subject. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
DON'T take this class with warner he not only does he not make sense but he is also a **** if you try to ask a question... he will make you feel stupid to make himself feel better:] just don't do it he wrote the book so he will want you to know every detail...
Avoid him! Hardest prof at at WWU. I'm an A student and I am fearful of passing this class. He's a brilliant man, but very biased. He detests big business, and his purpose is to essentially turn you into a socialist. His expectations of students is ridiculous: 4 books, 3 exams, unrelated vocab, BB articles, Current Events, Paper(s), Presentation.
First off, i aplogize to all accounting majors because you will have to him. I HATE HIM. there are no + or - to the grades.. so A,B,D,F ONLY. his tests are very limited and do not even barely cover enough for what you read and tall about. he's super-biased, very odd, and horrible professor. Maybe as a lawyer, his methods work, but a horrible educat
Just Say No. His expectations are unreasonable, especially considering it's an intro class. He lectures about people's grammatical errors making them an "ignoramus" and has a SERIOUS ego problem. When students try to argue a point or question his grading techniques he seems to ignore them as though they're a lower-class citizen.
His grading on his tests are extremely tight, if your answer doesn't coincide exactly with his answer you're not getting full credit. If you displayed understanding of the law but misinterpreted the question you get no credit. He is willing to talk but just gives the same canned answers to all students wether or not it applys to you. Very biased.
Bad news bears. I took a W after getting a 40% on the first test. Didn't want to waste my time. I havn't heard anything good about his mgmt 271 class.
This guy simply uses his class as a platform to preach his ultra left wing views and to hock the textbook and study guide he wrote. Study guide doesn't help you understand the topics but he uses it on the tests to make sure you buy it. Textbook is full of spelling errors and his sources are merely other authors conjecture, not facts.
WARNING!!!!!!!!! Warner is not a very effective educator. He is incapable of delivering relevant information to his students. Moreover, his lectures were useless, he derived almost all of his exam questions from a textbook that he emphasized as optional. Yea really fair. It was impossible to get in contact with Warner, when I emailed him inquiring
Terrible. Would never recommend. Short answer portions of exams are oftentimes unclear as to what exactly he wants and if you do not answer the absolute way that he himself would you get a zero. a 58% is passing and you get a notecard on each test yet the class as a whole still does terrible. not a representation of the student's knowledge.
In no way would I recommend this professor, unless you want your quarter to be miserable. The class is pretty straight forward: 4 tests 1 final, but the amount of studying you do will make little to no difference. Rude, pompous, and hypocritical. Studied for 2 days for his final, had a strong grasp of "Business Law" material and got a 52% on final
This class is hard. You really do have to pay attention because law is about specifics. Warner is great though. He knows his stuff and will offer you help on anything you don't understand, but expect him to bust your balls from time to time. You need to ask him before tests though, Highly recommend taking a logic course first.
the worst class ive ever taken all in needed was a 58% to get a c- and as much as i studied and took notes i got a 40 something %, now i retaking it with a real professor
This is the hardest class i have ever had. If you want to have a good gpa or get credit look elsewhere. Although if you are VERY interested in law take this class. I might have failed every test but learned alot, and his lectures and pretty interesting.
This is the hardest class in the accounting program. Warner's lectures are interesting and well organized. Expect him to give you a hard time, but just realize it's not personal. ALWAYS site your answers in two parts. The rule of law first, then the supporting facts. Work hard and always come to class or you will fail. Class is extremely useful
Favorite professor thus far at WWU. Guest speakers were all great. Tests were difficult but fair. Makes you think critically about current issues (economy, business, environment)
"Knuckle ball" Warner as he refers himself to has an extremely vivid character. tough on grading, and only likes the answer that he thinks is right. interesting material, makes you think.
Tests are super hard. But IF you read the cases in the book your will do good!!!! he makes you examine the way we live our lives. Some are very depressing but TRUE!
He models the class after a real first year law course so be prepared for the Socratic method. Weekly quizzes are pretty tough but if you memorize the common law it's not that bad.
One of my favorite profs. Hes hard, but clear. Hes a lawyer, so he will want your test answers to be extremely concise and logical. People don't like him because he is old, but I think his opinions are hilarious. Loved the class!
His tests are not even related to the book or course material. He grades them with his own standards, which no one can meet. Even he admited he can't get an A in his own class. An A is 60%, and the highest grade in our class was a B...
Interesting material, but extremely hard grader. His "lecture-ettes" are given at a slow pace and he randomly lectures on unrelated grammar and vocab solely to patronize students. Expectations of students are ludicrous: 4 books, 3 exams, unrelated vocab, blackboard articles, Current Events, Paper(s), Presentation. This is not a grad class. AVOID.
Daniel Warner is the worse teacher ever.
This professor is terrible. Do not take his class. He is an extremely hard grader on tests that are not on what you think they will be on.
Avoid this professor at all costs! He is by far the worst professor I've ever had. He tests extremely hard, goes off on tangents, and is extremely patronizing. After each test he'll spend 30 minutes telling everyone how badly they did and how diappointed he is. He doesn't seem to recognize that the failing grades are his fault.
Horrible teacher!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! His tests are extremley hard and he doesn't not care about any of his students! Take this with anyone else, otherwise your GPA will be effected significantly
He expects everybody as the same level as him or else so all of his tests are way off the materials. Your GPA will significantly goes down if you're in his class
Warner is extremely difficult. He expects you to know all the material for exams, even if he didn't get to it in class. He knows that no one can get a decent grade so he has a massive curve to compensate. Don't take this class if you want to maintain a 4.0. I felt as though I understood the material well but my grade did not reflect that.
He actually isn't that bad if you do the work. He gives out old tests and takes questions from them. Test 4 last quarter was an old version, people just didn't bother to work through it ahead of time. He is very helpful if you go to his office hours. He is really full of himself and it gets hard to listen to.
The man is pretty weird. Some people really hate his teaching style, however he knows what he's doing and has a lot of real world experience. If you can deal with your slightly quirky grandparents and wouldn't mind having them teach you a lesson, I'd say he's fine.
Extremely pretentious! He is very intelligent, but he is just way too biased in his teaching. Learned some interesting material, the textbooks were good, HARD tests. He goes on a lot of rants. You will learn something, but beware, it's tough to get an A unless you answer the way he wants things answered on papers and tests.
Class is a ton of material and his quizzes really make you apply what you learn. A lot of people complain about him, but I loved his teaching style and listening to his stories. Great teacher if you want to learn.
He is one of the strictest professors at WWU. He expects all students to maintain utter respect for him and would tear you apart if you don't. However, his program forces you to learn A LOT about contract law. Expect to spend about 10 hours every week studying before his weekly quizzes; they're actually exams. Students beware, it's really rough.
If you really, really want a challenge then this is your class. However, don't expect your grade to be an adequate representation of your performance. His grading is entirely subjective and he grades on a curve. You WILL learn a lot if you pass his class, but expect to be frustrated with his style.
This professor is the most frustrating professor/teacher I've ever had. He is extremely liberal and then he rants about his beliefs about politics and his liberalism. It is very frustrating to listen to his stupidity and his anti-capitalism for 2 hours for 2 days a week. I have been in his class for 1 day and I will be dropping this class.
This professor is absolutely horrible. His lectures are generally dry and boring, and he is unbelievably pretentious. He uses unnecessarily big words, and then ridicules students when they don't understand. Do NOT take this class with him.
Yes, Warner is HARD. But he knows what he's talking about and as long as you make this class a priority (read the book and type up your notes for review) you will get a decent grade! People fail/drop because they don't try. He curves grades and a 75% is an A. TIP- review the old exams he posts and include on cheat sheet for test! Topics are similar
I understand the frustration with Prof. Warner. He is tough and slacking off is absolutely not an option. However, if you want to learn the basics of business law his courses are excellent. MGMT 271 is one of the best classes I've ever taken.
Everyone should have a class with Warner because he actually enjoys what he is professing. Some people on this forum may have misjudged his passion for teaching as egotistical. The objective of the class as I saw it was to not only give a foundation of what the law is, but also what it ought to be. The second part requires a bit of passion i think.
Most of the reviews below are accurate, but Warner's class is not impossible. Seriously just do the readings, problems in the back of the book, and sample exams and you should easily get a B. He definitely grades on a curve, and since there are 5 exams one poor score won't kill your grade. Not as bad of a class as made out to be.
This guy is without question the most difficult professor I've ever had in my 3 years at a university. Lectures are super dull, but you miss a lot if you don't attend. Tests are situational, half is a written portion and grades super hard. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR
His grading scale is ridiculous. He expects unrealistic results for a 200 level class. He is an old man stuck in his ways. It is too bad because he is so intelligent!
Most of these posts are right, is not impossible though cause somehow i got an A-. Just make sure you go over the pre-test he makes and the end of the chapter problems before you take the test because most of the test questions are close or exactly like the questions there. Good luck.
Take it with another professor. A select few people do well in this class. His policy is "you'll fail the first couple exams and then make up for it later on". I've learned a ton, but he goes on rants half the class, is unapproachable as he makes you feel bad for asking a question. It's not hard to pass, it's just not a great class in my opinion.
Only certain types of people do well in this class. Lectures are a very vague overview and then tests are ridiculously detailed and hard. Expects you to have the knowledge about law that a law student would which is unfair for a 200 level prereq. However, he is very intelligent and passionate about the subject.
Not as bad as I've heard. Study ALL material he makes available online. This is what will prepare you for the weekly quizzes. Reading the text only is not enough. Lectures are helpful, and interesting. No one got lower than a C-, but over half the class was in the C range. Be prepared to spend a fair amount of time studying.
This class isn't as hard as everyone says. Go to class, read the book, do the study questions, and write his italicized rules of law on your notecard. He isn't going to hand you a grade, but most people walked out with As and Bs in my class. He's political, but he explains why it isn't ethical to be neutral. He isn't asking you to change your views
Professor Warner is a very boisterious man. He loves acting out little scenes that really help with understanding the concepts. The most important thing to remember is that RESULT = LAW + FACTS!!! Most students only reply on the exams with result and facts or result and law but leave out a portion of the equation. RESULT=LAW+FACTS
Very strict and challenging class! Basically if you aren't in class and don't read every chapter of the book expect a terrible grade. The class isn't terrible but requires a ton of work.
Fact+Law=Decision. 4 hours of work per class session. Read and brief the cases. Skim the chapter, practice the first sample quiz, evaluate your answers. Review chapter, repeat. Follow the syllabus. Professor is open to argument about quiz answers. Use sound logic. Look up words you don't know. Enjoy your A.
This is a difficult class, however it almost goes without saying since it is a class on business law. Law is not an easy topic and you will have to put the work in if you want to do well. However, his grading scale is extremely forgiving and a 70% can still give you an A. The class is also very useful and Warner is extremely intelligent and funny.
How to do well:Go to the lectures and try to read every chapter before lecture so the lecture is sort of a review. Don't rely on just his lectures for his exams, you HAVE to read the chapters and if that is too much for you, study the cases and the questions at the end of each chapter(he gives you the answers). Also, do his practice exams!
Warner is an awesome guy. He is super intelligent and understands law is a hard topic, so he has lowered his standards. He really wants you to do well and learn. Anything above a 72% is considered an A. Warner is old, but is very liberal and has values that remind me of younger generations. I recommend taking Warner, I really enjoyed the class.
Results Law + Facts. That is all you will ever need to know. No need to be superfluous on tests. Everything in the textbook and lecture could be on the test. If you work hard and care about learning, you will learn a lot.
Smart guy. Very clear lectures and his suggested study method in the class has helped me learn a lot. However, his strong anti-capitalist, pro-socialist, and anti-republican opinions often aggravated me and occasionally taken too far to the point of insult. However, he is a really great teacher and is passionate about getting his class to learn!
Warner was an amazing prof and was really passionate and engaging. Tests were hard and grading was tough but it was worth it. He's very willing to help so I suggest talking with him. Come to class excited and willing to learn as you'll do fine.
Excellent teacher. The material is very difficult, but his presentation is as clear as any teacher could possibly deliver it. He tells you straight up what is expected, he outlines every lecture visually while he's talking, and he posts samples of previous tests. Read the material, come to class prepared and study the past exams. You'll do fine
He know his stuff like no other professor I have ever met. Ask him any question and he will give you 5 cases as examples to help you really explain what it is you are confused about.
Daniel is an interesting professor. He knows lots of "stuff," but gets off topic a lot and goes on rants. I actually really enjoyed the class and the subject, but the tests are difficult because you have to be very precise. It's not too hard to pass the class since a C is like 60%, but it is very hard to get a B or higher.
Seriously I enjoyed his lecture and random jokes so much... He is an awesome professor except that the quizzes are definitely time-consuming and hard. Go through the past quizzes he posted on canvas they are super helpful for preparing you for the upcoming ones... and you should skim each chapter and brief all the cases at the end every time ...
This guy knows his stuff. He can be a little hard to talk to and come off as rude sometimes but he wrote his own text book which makes his class very straight forward because he goes straight from there. Going to class isn't necessary but he does do a random selection of a name from notecards to state a current event which is a part of your grade.
Warner's class is the hardest class I've taken so far at Western. He has a very biased grading style when looking at the essay portion of the tests. His lectures can be interesting at times but his horrible cursive & rants are super distracting when learning. I would recommend taking any other business law professor instead of taking his class.
Not a good professor. Avoid
Professor Warner was great. He expects a lot from his students, but he provides all the resources you need to succeed. His testing style is unique, and there is a high learning curve, but after the first test, your scores will get better. I'm surprised he is rated so lowly, I thought he was a consummate professional; everything a prof. should be.
Warner is an excellent teacher. He really knows his stuff & his lectures are actually really interesting. He's a bit eccentric & old-fashioned, but if you work hard, the pay off is there. His tests are difficult: you really have to understand the laws, you can't just memorize them. Work hard & you'll get a good grade. He curves grades fairly.
If you can take this class with any other professor, DO IT. He is such a hard grader. Only 20% of the class was passing half way through the quarter. Your entire grade is up to 3 tests, which you are given 1 hour to do. They are just a big essay, and yes, he does take of points if you misspell something
Warner is a tenured professor in the Accounting department, but has a background in the practice of law. Some may think that his ground rules laid out in the syllabus are critical, but it does help in the flow of class. He WILL call you out in the midst of a lecture if he sees you using your phone. Old fashioned, uses the whiteboard to lecture.
Hardest class I've taken at Western. Get ready to outline the textbook and have tough grading on the exams. There's other good Business Law professors at Western, I only took him because his class fit my schedule. I like his teaching style, but it's really not the extra work unless you are going into law.
Professor Warner is a very knowledgeable and seasoned professor. He doesn't take excuses and can be kind of condescending toward his students. Text book is pretty clear but his teaching style leaves no room to skip class. There aren't to many tests but they're your entire grade which makes it hard to do successful. Its a lot of work but worth it.
terrible professor. expects answers to be directly from his brain or from a small nitpicky article from one of the 100s of cases you will need to read upon. Expects you to have a previous knowledge when this is an intro class. do not take
I doubt that a practicing contract lawyer could sort through Werner's fictitious "quiz" tests. Read the cases at the end of the chapters and take notes, take notes in class, and look at the first few quiz samples. There is not much else you can do... his "quizzes" only resemble the material. He unfairly tests for minute detail.
HE IS TERRRIBLEEEE
Very difficult and time consuming class, so be ready for that. The cases in the book help a lot. Spend most of your time going over the practice quizzes, I felt that they were the biggest help for the actual quizzes.
I don't get why he gets so much flack on here. I'm a pretty subpar student overall effort wise, but I've shown up to his class, vaguely read the text, and have had no trouble with exams. His lectures are very interesting. Only downside is he expresses his political agenda very openly and often and doesn't allow much debate over his opinions.
It is a tough class but if you read the cases and read the chapters smartly, you will do just fine. Get ready to study though, you will be on your own for the whole quarter.
Be ready to put in about 1-2 hours of prepping cases before each class. Make sure to learn all the CRLs and I recommend using diagrams to sort out the details of contracts (I didn't, and each quiz was like deciphering hieroglyphics). If you put your time in, you may or may not be fine. Goo Luck.
Warner is a good professor; he knows the subject very well and is knowledgable about many subjects. His class is based off 5 tests (including the final) that are extremely hard and many people in my class have failed them. The essay portion of the tests are graded toughly and were basically impossible to get a decent grade on.
More then half the class failed the first exam. He writes only in cursive and tells you the first day of class that he will not change his hand writing and will NOT write more legible. He goes on bizarre political rants in the middle of lectures too. I would recommend taking it with someone else if you don't want to struggle the whole course.
I loved this class. Be prepared to do a lot of reading but if you put in the work it's not too bad and you learn so much. Warner is a very fair grader. Make sure to state the law in your answers and explain your answers clearly and he may give out partial credit even if you are wrong. Study his old quizzes on canvas they help so much.
4.0 student until this class. No matter how hard you study, you will struggle just to pass. IT IS AWFUL!!! There's NO way to avoid this class. He is the only prof that teaches it. He grades severely. Your only points come from weekly essay quizzes and cases- if not prepared, you will lose 5 pts each time that can eat up entire grade! Good luck!
If you really like a challenge then this is your class. Be sure to know all the CRLs and when to apply them. Read and brief the cases every time, you dont want to knock 5 points off your grade for not being prepared to take a case! Go over the practice quizzes on canvas as they prepare you for what to do on quizzes. Good luck!
Warner is great. His class is definitely hard, but really fair. He goes on rants during lectures and acts out lectures which are really funny. Take good notes, study the practice quizzes and be tough when he calls on you in class, as he likes people that challenge him.
Prof. Warner is one of the hardest professor's at WWU, but I found his class to be very enjoyable. He is a tough grader but is fair. Make sure to study the practice quizzes and do the cases.
He knows the subject matter well and is very blunt and goes on political rants that are at least 7 minutes long. If you end up taking him, I recommend reading the text thoroughly, taking good notes, being specific but not wordy in your exams. I stuck to a specific format in each essay response and I got full credit on exams. godspeed
Warner's class is definitely difficult, but I think he is also one of the highest quality professors I've had at WWU. The difficulty of his class will pay dividends on the CPA exam. The class isn't difficult in an unfair way, but in a way that demands mastery of the material, something I wish I had experienced more of in my time at Western.
Good professor, but very tough. He will stretch your analytics skills and force you outside your comfort zone but in the end you truly learn something.
He's really not that bad. Yes he is a tough grader and yes there's quite a bit of reading but nothing unreasonable. If you actually do the reading, study and ask questions when needed, you'll do fine on the tests, period. The essay part of tests is where he gets picky with grading but as long as you follow the format he tells you to, you'll be fine
You must study hard to pass this class with a good grade. Simply taking notes and relying on a study note for the exam will not work, you really have to understand the law and how to apply it. You will learn a lot, but take another professor if you want an easier class.
WWU only has one teacher for Acct 470 (at least in 2019). He is your only option for the class. Good luck, this class has little to do with accounting and is mainly prepping you for the law portion on the CPA exam. Personally, I disagree that this course is required for accounting students.
To start off his writing is eligible, he talks way to much and if your an active learner good luck in this class because all it is, is him taking and writing on the chalkboard, barely any interactions in class. You have a question, good luck.
Very hard class.
Warner is a difficult grader and I wish he was more considerate of students GPAs... HOWEVER, I can easily say his style of teaching and his abundant amount of knowledge will make this class worth it. You have to be ready to show up for class, take notes, and do the readings- but, thats college, baby
He is very enthusiastic and you can tell he cares about what he's teaching, but his class is tough. The overall class grades are curved which is nice, but you still have to work for your grade. Come to class, take notes, and study and you will do fine.
While it's clear he does care about the material, Warner is still one of the most needlessly difficult professors in the ACCT field. His class will selfishly demand almost all your spare time, at the expense of all your more relevant courses. His arrogant demeanor, and tendency to brow-beat students for trivial matters certainly don't help either.
Most confusing class ever
Accounting 470 with Prof. Warner is a tough class. Be prepared to spent a lot of time reading the text book, and reviewing old quizzes he posts on his canvas website. Weekly quizzes are assigned on Tuesdays, and due on Thursday. I know a lot of posts are critical of Prof. Warner, but I personally really liked him- get to know him in office hours.
6 week summer session was difficult but doable. He created lectures for students to listen to on their own time within reason, but the book is written by him and straight to the point in what he wants you to learn. Quizzes with 1 drop, read the cases assigned to you and prepare to share, and a single final. No one failed, but few aced it.
Taken online Yes, professor Warner's class is difficult, and there is a fair amount of work, however, he is extremely knowledgeable about business law. His lectures are long but very interesting, and I always feel like I learn something. This class is hard, but professor Warner is easy to access for help, and really tries to make class fun.
Taken online. I totally understand that adjusting to online learning is just as hard for professors as it is for students, but prof Warner was extremely disorganized. Aside from this class already being very difficult, his constant test/grading mistakes and lack of attention to detail made this class super frustrating and harder to understand.
He's actually not THAT bad. I didn't really study because the time to watch the hour long lectures and notes on the textbook already take long enough and this isn't my only class. If I did study however, I'm sure I would've gotten at least a B or B+. It's hard to get an A because the questions make you second guess a lot.
I took Daniel Warner's MGMT 271 class my 1st year at WWU. First tip-Don't! I took this class during Covid-19 (which made it slightly easier) A hard class and you MUST show up, read, watch lectures, and participate when called or lose points. This alone isn't worthy of a 2/5 but-insults students for not knowing material, demeaning, and insensitive!
I took his law class in fall of 2020. It is definitely easier online. He grades his tests harshly and there are long lectures online to watch. Not too hard to pass as long as you read the text book and watching the lectures will help you get a better grade on the tests. He definitely knows what he is teaching but has an air of superiority.
Buy the textbook, he uses the same one each quarter, and I had to take the class twice to pass. The quizzes are really difficult to understand how to do properly. Essentially, anything written in the textbook is a CRL. Took me failing once, almost twice, to realize that so thought I'd pass it along. Good luck.
He can be nice but can also be rude. Hes the type to shame you if you get a question wrong even if youre trying. Hes super old school: no PowerPoint, draws names, etc. Creates lecture videos to watch before class and then the zoom meeting is just basically the video but docs points for not attending meetings? Make it make sense. Textbook req.
