This teacher is very helpful and eager to help students understand the concepts.
Tests are difficult but not extreme. Grades tests fairly. Very slow in feedback with grading assignments and posting homework solutions. Pretty much sticks to the text.
Work hard you will get an A. He really tries to make the class fun.
Makes the exams so hard...our class avg on exam first was 45%
PROFESSOR REALLY SUKS IF U WANA FAIL CLASS JUST REGISTER 4 HIS CLASS EXAMS R SOO HARD SO MAKE SURE NOT TO TAKE HIM EVER
very verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry hard
Good Luck! His first exam is the toughest. Watch out for it. Our class average was a failing grade. He also does a horrible job answering questions. He goes around in circles, and you can never tell if he answered your question or not. He also uses many cliches...lectures seem pointless.
Weimer is very smart. That doesn't mean he is a good teacher. He definately understands material. Tests are extremely hard but he curves at the end. use his office hours, he is very helpful. He trys to have fun in class. Dispite tests grades the class is actually hard to fail between the curve and HW grades.
horrible...he just read off the solutions and powerpoints
Professor is enjoyable during class, applies concepts and is determined to help students understand the material. Material is difficult overall, but professor is always available for extra help. Tests can be challenging, but graded fairly.
if I could give him a lower grade I would. I cannot stress this enough, don't take his class if. He is a horrible teacher and gives vague answers to simple questions. If you have no other choice but to take his class I suggest that you get accounting for dummies. This book will help you more than he will.
A lazy guy...with unplanned teaching material. Some content goes very brief.Never answers questions properly.tests are tougher compared to what he teaches. If you r taking his class.....study hard from text(own study)
Don't believe the hype-Weimer is one of the best accounting professors at WSU. Don't expect to just regurgitate what you memorized from the text-on exams you need to be able to actually apply the concepts to a problem. Go to class, pay attention, do the work and you'll do just fine.
Very hard, no flexibility on test scores, no review for tests, very boring teacher and class!
Do not take his class, might be better off taking this class elsewhere in another institution. He doesn't answer questions properly,he's irresponsible,he's lazy everytime making excuses. This guy has the knowledge but is a bad teacher.Lastly, his exams are terrible. Please stay out of his class. He's bad on most fronts.
Just don't take this class. He is knowledgable but a HORRIBLE teacher. He doesn't know how to convey the information to the student. Class consists of going over homework and powerpoint. There is not much explaining. This was the first class I had to retake and I've been on the dean's list for all but 1 of my semesters at Wayne.
Stay away from him!He is acting like b/c of his personal failures - wanted to teach at UofM endup at WSU - he is taking on students! He is not aware that Excel is for helping in SOLVING equations not for explaining homework!
I have to admit, he is not the best at explaining things. But his exams were not that difficult. However, it is key that you read the chapters and do the homework problems. Accounting is a hard subject, no matter with who you take it. I worked very hard and was lucky that I received an "B".
Teaching in class is a little sporatic, however, in person a very helpful instructor.
He is just horrible. the least helpful professor I have ever seen. Don't take his class.
This instructor is completely incompetent. He thinks he is teaching accounting professionals. He goes around the room in circles. Can't get his thoughts right. I believe he should have stayed in non-teaching profession. You can't get help from him, he won't reply to emails. Makes excuses everytime. Grades were given a month after finals!
I took BA 6000 in Fall 2007. Positives - He was very flexible in the grading. He may have taken ignored the mid-term if you did the finals and project good. His mid term was difficult, but the finals was easy. Project was time consuming but interesting. Negatives - Never responded to emails. Help was difficult to obtain if you an online student.
He's aight, not as bad as ppl say. He can be kinda vague when you need help, but he will help you if you ask. Its easy to fall behind in this class, and thats probably why alotta ppl take 3010 more than once. I would say that as long as you go to class, do some of the hw, and get help from other students, you should be ok
It is strange everyone gives him a bad rating, i thought he was honestly great, and normally i hate all teachers.
Well..he is easy if u have a good background in accounting from high school n stuff. Otherwise u might find him hard to understand! Just read the book do ur homework nd look at the specifics he stresses in class nd ur good. He has like 2problems on tests and rest is MC, which some ppl find difficult. but they are not hard if u kno ur stuff
are we talking about the same teacher? why many of the poor reviews are "under review?" It makes me suspicious... overall this instructor is below average for school like WSU
He literally teaches with his eyes closed, knows his stuff too. This is going to sound werid, but he doesnt assign enough homework... if you dont have a ACCing background this class might be kinda hard... he's cool but maybe you should avoid him
The thing you need to understand about this professor is it all starts with his rather poor high school education. That and his addiction to head banging music. By the way, who is this "Timo" fellow he keeps bringing up?
Exams weren't that bad if you really understand the materials. Just as someone stated below me, he does not assign enough homework to truly understand the material on your own. Do yourself a favor...actually use the accounting lab offered by the school. Sandee Penn is the only reason I passed 3020, and I wish I used here expertise for 3010.
Inability to clearly articulate course concepts. Unwilling to revise testing format or provide additional course work so exams do not weigh so heavily (75% of course grade with only three exams the whole semester). More homework should be assigned and accounted for at least 50% for grade. Avoid any classes with this professor if at all possible.
He doesn't even write his own tests, he just uses Prof. Andrews. Which means you will have no idea what is really on it. If you take this class take it with her. 2/3rds through the semester we only have received grades for exams. Tons of homework, which is the same for Andrews, but never bothers to go over any or return grades.
Completely disagree with the negative comments, he was a great professor. Be sure to keep up with the homework and reading. Workload is perfect and exams were tough but do-able if you knew the material. Highly recommend taking this class, you will get a lot out of it.
Please refrain from taking the online class. I read similar comments on this site and took the online class. Big mistake! His response to emails is 50-50.I heard similar comments from other online students in my course.Take the assignments seriously as there are only 3 exams that constitute 75% of the score.
I hadn't taken an accounting class before, so I was a little nervous. If you attend class (its mandatory) take good notes, and do homework, then you'll be fine. Someone else posted he doesn't give enough homework. I agree. You have to do more exercises from the book if you're going to do well. Overall a good professor and one I found helpful.
Excellent teacher for a difficult topic. Hate the textbook, though.
You need to do the howe work to do okay. The book sucks, but he does know his subject matter. He is slow in getting back grades, which he needs to improve on. Case studies are easy. You need to do the work, it is a graduate class.
He is great! Study hard, put in the necessary work, and you will do great in the class. He is a good professor. A little stingy on helping you on assignment questions but still, he is the best in the department.
Took the online class, had 5 quizes, 3 short case studies and a final that is 40% of the grade. We attended virtual classroom every week where we could ask questions or solve problems. The professor extended extra hours towards the end if we needed extra help.I learned a lot, he was a great teacher. Cons-very slow with grading, still highly recomen
Absolutely useless prof. If you take this class, your better off learning the subject matter on your own. he is not helpful
He is a great teacher! He really knows what he is talking about and takes notice when others need help. The class itself is pretty difficult so you must have take the time to study and do the homework.
Very useful class. The professor knew the subject matter very well and taught that extremely well. Coming from a non business background with no prior to accounting,I still found this class very easy to follow Thanks to the professor. He was ready to spend extra hours to help us understand the course material
Knows his stuff. Kinda bland. Accounting is not the most interesting of subjects but he doesn't do much to help.
GREAT TEACHER! one of my best! he was extremely clear and made sure the class understood before going on. can get awkward when u ask q's because he stares at u until u clarify if he doesnt understand. allows an 8.5*11 cheat sheet for final exam which is worth 30% of ur grade. he snuck in E.C. on the final exam too. would take another class w/ him
Very good teacher
Just is a boring guy. Doesnt really present the material in a way that it sticks so this course became self taught for me. He has 7 or so quizes, homework, case studies and a final exam. Outside class work is super time consuming.
Read the book and look over the study guide for the class that is recommended and you will be fine! He is nice and a good teacher but not very clear.
He is the worst teacher, don't take him.
He is hyper, unorganized, and scatterbrained. If you do well teaching yourself this is the class for you. If you need the teacher's help with quizzes and assignments don't waste your time with Weimer. He will wait to grade your assignments until it's too late to drop so if you don't do well you will be stuck with a bad grade. Find another class!!!
He's a nice guy & means well but even for a foundation class it was pretty advanced. He's very knowledgable but he assumes you are too. He'll do just about anything to keep his students happy so if you're good with the material absolutely take him...if not plan on being VERY discouraged and overwhelmed.
Terrible teacher.
Weimer is a very intelligent and knowledgeable individual. He is helpful and easy to understand. His lectures are interesting and clear.Although, when it comes to the exams he combines too many concepts into one Q, on a level that we never had a chance to practice. But if you study hard, you will do well in class. He is a fair but slow grader.
Worked my butt off in this class and took a curve to pass. Weimer seems nice at first but is not organized and should not be teaching.
Stay FAR away from this class.
Weimer's fairly entertaining...material is dry, class optionial is huge positive, entire grade based on 3 exams is +/- depending on who you are, exam questions are rarely difficult.
2 years removed from his class and one year removed from education, I can now with certainty say this is the worst teacher/professor I ever had.
I found this course to be very challenging. I'm not sure if it was because my interest level was low or if he really just sucked at explaining accounting. I feel like I gave it a good effort. I passed so that was good/lucky but I don't think the material was presented very clearly and I didn't learn very much.
Great Guy knows his stuff, you will do good in class if you do the homework and read the chapters, go to class and ask questions he is really helpful.
He is not that hard for an ACC course. Read the text, its easier then trying to understand him. If you are someone who needs good lectures, take a different professor. Grading is fair but not easy or lenient.
Dr. Weimer is a great lecturer and makes accounting class interesting. I'm surprised by the low rating he has received on this site. BA6000 isn't a fluff class, but he's reasonable.
Very entertaining teacher, easy exams and fair grading. very helpful when needed, makes the dry subjects very entertaining. I really recommend taking this class.
The professor is very knowledgable and explains topics very well. Explains all homework in detail. There were three exams and two cases determining the grade. None of them were easy but you can do well if you study hard. All in all I can recommend this professor/class. Comments about slow grading are true though.
Excellent teacher, better than most. Extremely boring and paces all over classroom.
He is a very good lecturer but his exams are challenging. If you attend class and understand the homework, you should be fine.
Took him for 5100 and Advanced, 5120. Very intelligent/accessible. Need help, just ask, but come prepared--ask good/relevant questions. He'll challenge you...you should be inclined to push yourself to learn. Want easy, look elsewhere. If you're driven and looking to be an Acctg. Professional, then take Weimer. Highly recommended.
Worst teacher I have had in over 15 years of school. Very unorganized and very slow to grade exams/homework. I heard he has a full time job and therefore only teaches at night after working all day and is too tired to give his all for the class. I would never take a class with Weimer again, worst experience of my life.
Worst professor ever. Gets mad when you ask "stupid" questions and paces back and forth during the lectures. Very dry and seems arrogant. Read the book and teach yourself.
He is a great guy, attend class ask questions and use his office hours. He's very easy to approach and willing to go the extra mile to help you out! Show that you care and are putting effort and you'll receive great guidance. His tests are Mc and problems he is very fair with grading. Great prof would love to take the next ACC classes with him.
This class is tough and he only makes it harder. The stuff talks about in class is relevant but his clarity of explaining is just terrible. I could not follow his teaching and just had to teach myself. Which is better because he makes everything 10x harder. Try to take another professor.
Two thumps up!!!!
I don't know what it was about this class but I did not understand the material the way he taught it. I just finished ACC 5160 (managerial accounting) and it was a breeze. I think he gives you a lot of unnecessary information and that was why the class was so difficult for me. I'd take with someone else if I had to take again but that's just me.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!!
He was not very attentive to the online class. Weeks would go by before he would make a post or announcement to our class. He was very slow in getting test grades back. Lack of response to students' emails. Not consistent in posting lectures, but when they were posted they were pretty clear. Just not a good manager of his online classes, imo.
He is the best and smartest teacher at Wayne State. However, he is arrogant. I loved the class and would recommend taking him. It does help if you are good at accounting.
Incredibly difficult. Avoid at all costs.
avoid at all costs
Pros:Content is organized well, easy to follow & easy to digest. Lecture videos are kept short, great for budgeting your time. Lectures are enjoyable - Dan is engaging & does an excellent job taking complex ideas & breaking them into understandable terms. Also good sense of humor. Cons:Slow to respond to email - and slow to post online updates
He is a great professor just do the work do the projects be prepared and you sgoud get better than a b-
He is an OK professor. The class is overall just a tough class and I think he does his best to teach it. One thing I didn't like was he took forever to update grades so going into the final you won't know what your grade is. Tough class
Horrible. If accounting is hard for you this guy will not make it an easy experience. Not a nice person very sarcastic. He does break down the material pretty well. Of all the accouting instructors he is probably one of the best but the class is hard. Exams are hard. Get as many points from the homeworlkas possible it will be helpful in the end.
Not sure who else there is to take for ACC3020 but it has to be better than him. Doesn't respond to emails, when confronted about it he claims he never got it. Didn't put up grades from earlier in the semester till Christmas. Doesn't care too much about the class or the students as he obviously had something else going on in his life. DO NOT TAKE.
He knows the subject . Good professor. Can understand really well. But terrible grader. His grading criteria is not fair. You need to buy My business course web course with Financial management for MBA's text book to complete assignments. And do not expect extra credits from Prof. Weimer. And most of the times he doesn't respond to the e mails.
avoid at all cost his lecture is ineffective to what he has on exam reason being we dont go through excercises in class from textbook its just powerpoints and doesn't give a review,or answer back on time
Just Horrible!!! He's very arrogant and full of himself!!!
His grading scale is ridiculous and he's very arrogant. Stay away if you can.
This was a horrible experience. I had to pretty much give up everything and dedicate 3 hours a day to pass(I didnt even get an A). Its not the material, its the structure, Exams are very hard, always throws curveballs . You get a quiz and THEN he starts teaching that chapter, no study guides. ask a question? he will embarrass you. AVOID
Weimer is the absolute worst professor I have ever had. The guy does not care about his students. Everyone in my class was completely lost. Exams make no sense and lectures are meaningless outside of the pop quizzes. He didn't even get to all the quizzes we were supposed to do. VERY unorganized. How is this guy on the payroll?
Brilliant man.
I will never take this professor again. He is extremely rude. "No such thing as a stupid question." Well, not according to him. Anything you ask, he has to literally make you look stupid for asking such a question before asking it. Very arrogant man. I do not know why he still has his job at Wayne State. I pray you do not take this guy. Terrible.
for your own sake, do not take any class with this professor. He does not teach a single thing, and his exams are just awful. Avoid at all costs. You will not learn anything.
Most people give Weimer a bad review cuz they are upset about how naturally difficult accounting can be. Weimer is a great professor and will do everything he can to help you understand the material. He is more than happy to sit with you as long as you want after class or in his office hours. TIPS: READ the book, Go to his office hours, do EC!
I do not understand why ppl hate him!? Solid lectures. you need to have the chapter read before class to fully understand. exams can be tough but they are not impossible. overall great teacher who cares about his students. but you have to go to him in order for him to help you. do not be shy, he is a great guy who will help you as much as you need.
Ok. So I wrote about Weimer last semester on how you should not pass him. Hes actually better than I thought. After carefully understanding his methods and asking questions, he was never that bad. We just complain as students. He gave out possible 25 pts to earn of extra credit. Just gotta work for that grade is all.
Would never recommend taking his class to anyone. You are basically left on your own to try and learn the difficult material the way he wants you to know it though. If accounting comes easy to you you will be fine, but might struggle a bit on his exams. If accounting is hard for you to begin with, you will struggle just to pass his class.
Would not recommend at all. This class is very difficult and does not make it easier when you have a professor that doesnt want to help. He does not like questions, doesnt help when you go to his office hours, and gives extremely difficult exams with little guidance on how to prepare. He gave only 1% of extra credit. 12 people received E on exam
Horrible teacher, he makes the exams impossible. He doesn't care about the students, and doesn't try to help
Can not be reached outside of class. He does not give out study guides for his exams and does not prepare you well for them.
Decent class and helpful lectures. The exams are crazy hard though, and his study guides are useless. I read every chapter he said would be on the exam and take good notes in class, and it's still a guessing game on what to study.
The lecture is not organized. The study guide for exams are not specific so you really don't know exactly what to study for. The exam study guides are not helpful.
Difficult material but taught well. I read all the material, homework, attended class but the exams were difficult.
He is the worst proffessor in the accounting department. First exam is easy, but after that goes all down hill. Does not curve the exams at all, when the class average is absolute horribe. The fact that the average is so low shows something about him.
By far the worst class I have taken. I did not understand his teaching at all. The accounting lab attendant said she recommends people do not take his class and I agree. I had to teach myself everything. I got an 88 in Accounting 1 and struggled to pull a C in this class. His teaching methods are unclear and he hasn't given feedback on anything.
Professors really make a difference. I took Weimer twice, first time was my fault, but the second time? No. He doesn't teach you. He TALKS. It's like he doesn't pay attention to the class evaluations of his class. He is a terrible professor. If you choose anyone at WSU, pick McCants. Trust me, dont make the mistake of choosing Weimer.
I thought I knew accounting some what well because I got an "A" in financial accounting, but this was completely different. I had to teach pretty much all of the material to myself.
While I personally didn't do that good, it was mostly because I struggle paying attention during online classes. But the few times I did pay attention he was teaching passionately and trying to interact with the class the best he could.
He's not bad of a teacher but the only issue that I had in this class was that his quizzes were really hard. We complained to him and he finally made it easier. He doesn't teach well so be ready to study on your own. He's a nice guy and is willing to work after office hours to help you understand the materiel. He does not give extra credit out.
Nice professor. Quizzes and homework assigned every week. The quizzes are timed, only one attempt, and pretty hard. Does not provide study guides before any quiz or exams.
Weimer's recorded lectures are very confusing. After not doing so well on the 1st exam I decided to forget his lectures and teach myself from the book. I've been doing a lot better in the class without him. He assigns weekly homework and quizzes. Quizzes and exams are okay in the level of difficulty. He gives 55 points of easy extra credit though.
Simply put, there is just zero empathy for students. There have been times he has admitted he made exams and quizzes harder on purpose. And claims the grading scale is weighted when he does not understand what a weighted scale truly is. Worst class and professor I have taken in 6 years of college studies.
Everybody complaining about hard tests and quizzes needs to step back and take some personal responsibility for their own learning. Prof goes over the slides and clarifies what is on them. If your struggling, you need to go back and re-write them in your own words. Go over the HW and do the adaptive practice as the exam was just as tough as those.
I don't know why people are complaining. The tests are just like the HW problems and quizes, even simplier. Multiple attempts on HW. Didn't watch optional zoom lectures. READ THE BOOK! This is an MBA course. Accounting may not be everyone's forte but if you can't do SIMPLE math do determine if you are over/under budget then get help now.
If accounting is not your expertise this class will be challenging. I recommend watching his lectures, then reading the textbook for further clarification. Quizzes and exams are tricky too. I felt very prepared for both exams prior to taking them but his wording is different than what's in the textbook, which made the exams difficult.
I have never learned anything from this professor until now, I feel like he just wants his students to fail and when you ask him a question that u know it will be on exam he won't answer you, I will never take his class again.
His exams are so hard that EVEN THE TUTORS TOLD US TO AVOID HIM! YOU WILL FAIL! Highest exam score was 75%. That explains a lot about the class. No study guides & no preparation for exams. He will find ways for his students to fail. He said that when he grades 2nd exam then we can decide if we want to withdraw. Even he knows its a brutal class.
Please avoid him and wait until the next semester for a different professor because im not even joking i would have been so happy if i waited. Idc if you become part time student but he is not worth it. The whole class failed the exams. hardly 4-5 people did average. You will fail this class and u will have to repeat. THE SMARTEST KID ALSO FAILED!!
I like Weimer because he is a good lecturer and makes class interesting with his energy. At the same time, as with 3010, you will have to spend a lot of time with the course material if you want to get a good grade. The pop quizzes are inconvenient but at the same time the bulk of your points come from the test. He tells you exactly what to study.
RUN! If there is another professor to take, take that one, DO NOT Take this professor. Literally set up to fail. It hardest class I have ever taken. HE focuses more on people not cheating rather than teaching you the exam content. He doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner and he doesn't give out any study guides for the exams. Flash quizzes!
THIS CLASS WAS THE WORST! Never take him and stay away at all costs. Please run for the hills and never look back. Bad at teaching and extremely difficult exams that even class toppers cannot pass. Please run! I wasted my semester in his misery.
He seemed like he didn't want students to pass. No extra credit or study guides for tests. He also assigned the class a research paper that is due the same day as our final exam. Avoid taking this class unless you can teach yourself all of the material.
RUNNNNNNNNNN. By far the hardest and worst class Ive ever taken. He makes the material 1000 times harder than it needs to be.
Professor Weimer was pretty much what I expected the professor for advanced accounting to be. There were only 3 exams, so you needed to do well on those or else. There were also two quizzes, but they didn't count for much. The class is tough, and he expects you to read the textbook so beware.
I had this professor in person for the first time and it was awful. I'm not a fan of his teaching style at all and he makes his exams 100x harder than any example in the book and presentations. He skims over the presentations and makes it seem like you should know everything already. This was the first class I thought I wasn't going to pass.
Overall a good teacher that really does have a passion to teach. Breaks down every lecture into real life scenarios in order for a person to understand. If you ask him questions after the lecture is over, he will be open to answer in a very positive matter.
If you are typically an A/B+ student expect your grade to be a C or lower. Lectures were okay but did not pertain to the tested material; tests make up 65% of your grade too and there are many curveballs. Also, four quizzes were posted during finals week with only four days to complete. If you value your mental health, I would avoid this course.
He wants that all students success.
There are 3 tests that are very hard and worth a lot of your grade. Lectures do not help with the tests. A group project at the end that is not hard just a little confusing, but overall the project is not that bad. He does not respond fast to emails or sometimes not at all. Also, he posts homework late sometimes even 3 days before it's due.
The worst professor I have had here. The main problem is he breezes through the lecture material and gets right into the example problems. You have to put the time in to read everything outside of class because it is not covered during class. HE ALSO LOCKS THE GRADE FROM DAY ONE, SO YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOUR GRADE IS FOR THE ENTIRE SEMESTER!!
The type of professor that just reads the slides. I believe this teaching style does not benefit students whatsoever. As students, we want to apply numbers and concepts to learn and understand the material.
You will need to have a lot of time in your hands in order to actually focus on this course. Lots of pop quizzes and a lot of work in general.
Avoid this class at all costs! Professor Weimer's teaching style and exams are designed to make students fail. His lectures don't align with the tested material, and he provides no study guides. unstuck AI and ChatGPT were the only things that saved me. Take this class only if you're a masochist.
Professor Weimer is a nice man who clearly is very passionate about Accounting. However, he oftentimes communicated with us like we were on his level, and concepts weren't well explained. I and many others also thought that the homework was far different from the quizzes, resulting in low scores.
cool guy and knows what he's talking about but I honestly didn't learn much from him. 90% of my learning came from chatgpt and 10% came from the actual slides. The course is quiz and exam heavy with there being a quiz every two weeks for two chapters. You need to be a independant learner to succeed in this class but he does have office hours
Sucks at teaching you what you actually need. The homework, lectures and test cover different topics in different ways none of which are the same. The textbook is more of a practice problem booklet. Good luck finding help online or being able to ask questions with the limited time in class cuz he likes to rush through topics says "okay moving on"
Professor is the slowest grader ever, took over two months for him to put in an exam into canvas. He also will never respond to your emails under any circumstance.
He only answered my first email from the first day of class and none afterwards. Homework was posted late and he takes a while to post exam grades. Our finals are this week and we still don't have the grades from our second exam, which was a little over a month ago. I believe he is retiring so no need to worry about him anymore
