Good teacher.
Dr. Weller was one of the best professors I've ever had. You won't find another stem professor that cares about their students more than he does. His office hours are extremely helpful.
Dr. Weller is genuinely one of the most passionate and kind professors out there. His help was literally the only reason why I did well in physics. You can tell that he enjoys what he does and he is really good at dumbing things down and explaining things in multiple ways. I would 100% recommend any class that he teaches in.
Dr. Weller was a very passionate professor. His lectures were always clear, he was one of the best professors I have ever had. His office hours were very helpful and he was always willing to meet outside of class if you needed extra help on the material. Highly Recommend!
Dr. Weller is genuinely probably the best professor I could ever had at UMich. You can feel his love for physics through his teaching. He is super reachable outside class and his office hours are SO helpful for the exams. I couldn't have gotten an A without him.
Dr. Weller got me through Physics 250. He explains concepts really well and is to the point. He is probably one of the most enthusiastic and helpful professor that I have met in a physics course. Overall, his specific section made the class a whole lot more palatable/understandable. I definitely recommend people to take his section if possible.
Dr. Weller was one of the most personable professors I have had at Michigan. He was great during the optional workshops and office hours, and he helped me actually enjoy and understand the course material.
Dr. Weller is the best science professor I have had at Umich. He singlehandedly got me through Physics 250. He was amazing at explaining difficult concepts and was the most supportive professor I have had here. He made an effort to know all of his students and I could always tell how passionate he was about physics. Go to his office hours!!!
Dr. Weller was a great professor. He explained concepts very clearly and was very helpful. His office hours were great.
Dr. Weller was an amazing teacher and resource during my time in physics 250. His office hours were super helpful, and he explained concepts very clearly. He makes learning fun and easy. I highly recommend Dr. Weller as a professor.
Dr. Weller always had a positive attitude and made so much extra time for students to learn Physics especially with a difficult semester losing our main professor. He is a great teacher and always broke problems down in different ways that everyone can understand!
Professor Weller is probably the most caring educator I have met. He makes the material really easy to understand in a class that is known to be incredibly difficult at UMich. He is willing to have one on one which truly tells you a lot about him because not many professors do that. Professor Weller is awesome, the physics department needed this!
Dr. Weller is awesome. I had him for my Physics 250 studio and went to his office hours. He made all the hard concepts in lectures seem really easy. The actual lecturer in the class, Dr. Yang, wasn't great, but Dr. Weller's studio lectures made up for it. I'd recommend, if you're taking 250, to make sure Dr. Weller teaches you in some capacity.
The only one of the Physics 250 instructional team that knew how to teach. Learned more in 1 hour discussion sections from him than in 3 hours of lecture from Eckhause, Meiners, and Yang combined. Really patient and good explanations. Only reason I got a good grade in this class. Absolutely should be the lead instructor for this class.
Seriously, one of my favorite professors at Michigan and loves what he does and is very good at teaching physics and going above and beyond
I wouldn't have survived Physics 250 without Dr. Weller. He wasn't even my assigned professor but I went to his office hours and workshops because he was able to explain all the content so much better than the videos. He's super patient with any questions you have and I cannot recommend him enough.
Dr. Weller is an amazing instructor who cares about his students and who always works hard to provide us with the tools and material we need to succeed in this course!
i haven't heard anyone say any bad things about this professor. he's down-to-earth, kind, and very invested in making sure everyone learns something from studio. i loved his explanations and enjoyed his class.
Dr. Weller is super enthusiastic, funny, and easy to talk to. He genuinely cares if students understand the material and always takes time to help when needed. You can tell he loves what he does and I highly recommend him. As someone who isn't the best at physics, his explanations made it feel not so hard.
I will die for this man. goat
He was really nice, had him for physics studio where we did practice problems, he was always really helpful and genuinely wanted kids to learn.
This guy is straight up GOATED. The best professor at this university!
Dr. Weller is one of the best physics professors I've every had. I am NOT a physics person!!! But Dr. Weller simplifies difficult concepts so that I was able to easily follow along with the material and solve problems. He is a passionate, enthusiastic, and kind professor. Love love love his teaching style.
Great professor, who explains material well and clearly explains his expectations of the difficult of material for exams, something a lot of the physics department fails to do. Super nice guy, always responds to questions/emails and is readily available for office hours. Highly recommend to take him for your physics courses if you can.
Dr. Weller's lectures are very detailed and clear to understand. All of the studio work, quizzes, and homework is also extremely relevant for exams as well as the MCAT. He really cares about how well students learn and encourages students to come to office hours. I would recommend phys250 with only him.
Probably the best professor I've ever had. Very enthusiastic, kind, receptive to feedback, helpful in office hours, and genuinely wants students to understand the content and do well in the course. I couldn't believe how well I scored on exams and really understood what I was learning. My goat!!!!!
Daniel Weller is THE BEST professor I have ever had. HIGHLY recommend!
Dr. Weller is the best STEM professor at Umich. It is refreshing to have a professor who genuinely wants his students to succeed. He is super receptive to student feedback and explains hard concepts in a very digestible way. GOAT
Hands down the best STEM professor I've had thus far. So knowledgable in physics and made the class actually enjoyable for me (I hate math). I struggled heavily with 150, but through his guidance 250 actually made so much more sense to me. Highly, highly reccommend taking physics with him.
Dr. Weller is one of the best professors I've had at UMICH. Physics is not an easy class, but his passion and excitement are contagious. He is very supportive of his students and is fair and flexible in the course to ensure we receive the most benefit (eg. posting lectures earlier during exam weeks, taking feedback and applying feedback, etc.).
Dr. Weller is one of the best STEM professors I've had at UMich. He's incredibly passionate about teaching and genuinely cares about his students academically and personally. He does his best to ensure everyone is doing well and creates a supportive learning environment.
Best prof ever you will understand so well
Dr. Weller will go down in history as my GOAT. So fortunate to have met this man before leaving the univesity
Overall, Dr. Weller is a very good professor. He can get contradictory at times, going back and changing things he said prior. He makes 250 understandable, the volume of content creates the difficulty of the class. He really cares about students, which is a nice change of pace.
Easily the best lecturer at this university. Dr. Weller makes sure that each student knows the material and recognizes the difficulty that comes with it. Whenever he saw we were struggling, or unfair policies were in place, he changed them promptly to make it so that it was easier for us to success. THIS IS HOW YOU BE A TEACHER TO STUDENTS!!!
Dr. Weller was teaching this course for the first time, and as a new faculty member at the University of Michigan, he managed to do a great job navigating all this new territory. He is very receptive to his students and their wants and needs. His students and his class are important to him, and it shows.
Dr. Weller was awesome! He recognized our struggles with the course/material and made changes to grading policies to help with said struggles. He also implemented feedback given to him by students, almost immediately, which I really appreciate!
Amazing professor, taught the contents very well and grades really fair
Dr. Weller was one of the most receptive professors I have encountered at UofM so far. He was excellent at adapting and breaking down the large amount of content in Physics 250. If you have the option to take him for Physics 250, please do it. He responded promptly, actually listened and implemented feedback, and was a refreshing professor to have!
I really wish I was able to take Dr. Weller's class in person rather than online in the Spring. You can tell he truly cares about his students and their success. I appreciated his way of teaching and will never forget him as a professor.
I'm glad I took physics 2 with Dr. Weller, given how difficult it is in other semesters. He was kind and made sure we had all the resources necessary to succeed. Most exams were proctored but open book. Assignments can be a little difficult but nothing impossible; he made grade adjustments when needed. Overall, put in the work and you can succeed!
Genuinely one of my favorite professors. Dumbs things down really well and cares so much for teaching and for his students. Would 100% recommend him for a tough class like Physics.
Dr Weller is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. I have taken multiple classes with him and I wish I could take more!
Dr. Weller was always incredibly kind and helpful to students taking this difficult class. He made the material feel accessible and would break down problems in helpful ways, giving tips and also making sure everyone felt confident before moving forward.
Dr. Weller was always kind, compassionate, and humorous with his students. He had an incredible way of making harder topics more accessible, and would always make sure we understood the problems and how to solve them before moving on. He was enthusiastic about the material and made his students care!
Inspirational professor. Definitely loves the content that he teaches, and his passion for the material is contagious. Would 10/10 recommend taking a difficult course like Physics 250 with Dr. Weller. Took him as the instructor for studio and was the central reason to why I passed the course.
GOATTTTTTTTTT
Despite having a tough time throughout this course, Dr. Weller has been a great professor providing support to his students. He personally met one on one with me after exam to review the problems I got wrong and how to approach them. Overall, despite exams being on the harder side, Dr. Weller does his best to make them fair and the course doable.
Dr. Weller has very entertaining lectures that are well paced and filled with practice problems -- both demonstrations and student answered. Overall a wonderful course. The best possible conditions to learn something as difficult as physics.
Dr. Weller was an awesome professor. 100% recommend for physics 1. He tried to get to know lots of students names and was very accessible outside of class if you seek out help. Enthusiastic lecturer and really cares about his students success.
He is a great lecturer and truly cares about his students and wants them to learn. He also makes sure to keep lectures engaging. If you put in the work you will receive the grade you hope for. This class is hard but definitely manageable with this professor.
Dr. Weller was an amazing professor. I have always struggled with physics, but he explained things so clearly and with enthusiasm in every lecture. I genuinely enjoyed being in his class and I feel as though I learned more than I have from professors in the past.
Very funny and helpful professor, glad to have taken his class.
Explains everything so clearly. Definitely cares whether students are understanding well or not.
Dr. Weller is an awesome person and professor. He remembered all of the students names in a huge lecture just to make us feel respected. He was super helpful and available and truly cares about his students learning. I would definitely recommend taking his course if you are taking physics.
As someone who has never taken physics before, Dr. Weller does an amazing job at breaking down concepts and taking the time to walk through confusion and questions. Highly recommend taking physics with him, am purposely taking Physics 250 this spring semester to have him again.
Very open to feedback!
Dr. Weller is a great professor. I did not come across too many professors that are as helpful and dedicated as Dr. Weller. Definitely recommend taking his class!!
Great teaching style with engaging lectures. Dr. Weller is great at answering questions and takes the time to explain questions so that everybody understands. I would 100% recommend.
Genuinely the worst class I have ever taken. Dr. Weller is nice, but you can tell he is inexperienced. The lectures do not reflect the homework or exams. I have taken Math 115 here at Michigan, and this class was worse on so many levels. Nothing could have prepared me for the trauma I've endured this semester as a result. You work hard to fail :(
I never write reviews but I ADORE this guy!!!!! try and take his class if possible one of the best profs here at UM teaching one of the hardest subjects! he made me love physics again :))
Dr. Weller is an amazing professor. He takes feedback very well and does his best to make sure every student in his class succeeds. There were plenty of extra credit assignments which contribute significantly to your grade. He is also a great lecturer and made difficult subjects very easy to understand.
Dr. Weller did an amazing job teaching this course. It is tough for me to enjoy physics, but he made each lecture engaging and easy to learn the concepts. This was probably the best physics has ever been explained to me. For attendance, it was beneficial to attend in person, but an alternate option was available if you couldn't.
Dr. Weller was a fantastic professor. He clearly puts in a lot of effort even for a class full of pre-meds who don't care about physics. His lectures were entertaining, clear, and helpful, and I'd absolutely take another class with him.
Dr. Weller is amazing and i'll be retaking phy 150 with him again because i did the course as P/F due to personal issues that didn't allow me from saving my A grade. Exam 1 was really hard and that's what at least 90% of students said, by Dr. Weller took our feedbacks into consideration where he made the other exams much better. Highly recommended
Amazing professor, clearly cares about what he is teaching and his students, and truly wants you to understand the content. Made the class way more enjoyable than I thought it was going to be. Would 100% take another class with him.
One of my favorite lecturers at umich by far! Made content easier to understand somehow and kept class engaged during lectures! highly recommend!
Concepts were hard but he was very enthusiastic/motivating
Physics 150 is not for him! You must put a lot of effort. He does multiple mistakes which make a student feels lost, and I don't think that we're here to let him learn what to do from our feedbacks or survey that he used to tell us do it. Also, the examples that he gives or even the practice problems are very easy compared to the exams....
This class gave me hard time knowing that I used to hear from other students that physics is easier than other classes. As someone mentioned before, he's not experienced at all. For other semesters I recommend him doing quizzes after each module which would increase students grades. UNRECOMMENDED. Effort for nothing.
Dr. Weller made everything confusing and stressful. This class is not meant to be that hard and that's what most of the students say usually when taking it with other professors. Nothing he said matched what's on exam or homework. This class made me wish to die because it drained me. I would NOT recommend him to anyone.
Neither lectures nor studios were helpful. Don't take with him
One of the best professors I've had! Although he is newer, he genuinely wants his students to succeed. He is enthusiastic and funny in lecture and very helpful in office hours. Not all materials matched with exams well, but that wasn't 100% his fault, since he just took over. He listens to his students, and actively tried to make things better!
This was the worst experience at U-M. I didn't expect this much of studying for a physics course. He's wasn't ready to teach Physics 150 and the big proof for that is that one or more times students asked for something and he didn't know how to answer. Also, he improved his ipad problems recently. Don't take him because you will have hard time.
Passionate, caring, and makes physics easier to understand and interesting. I would definitely want to take him again. However, despite going to almost every office hour, doing everything provided, and pouring much of my time into this class, I did not do great on the exams. This depends on how good you are at physics but definitely hard content.
Very bad experience. I used to attend all lectures and do much more than what we are supposed to do but unfortunately the professor was not ready to teach this course. He do many mistakes and he tries to make fun but honestly it's not funny at all...
Run AWAY guys.
Dr. Weller is engaging and informative. He may be new to teaching, but he makes material easy to follow. Tests are challenging, but that's part of taking a physics class. I personally liked him a lot. If you use the concepts he teaches in lecture, succeeding is possible.
I wish i didn't choose him 😔
a whimsical man with an infinite amount of doohickeys for physics demonstrations
Weller is a good person, happy guy, and overall I think a good lecturer. I stopped attending in person and moved to lec. alternate and watching the lec because I found myself getting way behind irl, too fast. Hard tests, but generous ways to make up grade.
Prof. Weller was good overall and I believe that he'll be better in teaching physics 150 and in how to prepare students more for exams. Physics is not easy but most of the times he made it fun. His exams are heavy and they don't match the practices or the mock exam and I believe that this is one of the things that he must improve. Overall, good exp
Amazing professor, always has an interesting lecture. Anyone saying he is not ready to teach or is bad, must have not been paying attention. Every lecture was clear and answers questions anytime
Dr. Weller means well but needs to prepare more. His exams feel unnecessarily difficult and don't match what he teaches. He mostly reads off the PowerPoint, and while he offers office hours, the exams are nothing like the practice. I wish I felt more supported and knew what to expect.
Dr. Weller is a wonderful professor. I feel like there are definitely things that he can improve on in terms of his lecture habits. The exams for the class are hard, so practice the module questions to prepare. I wish he would go over difficult questions in lecture. The last unit we did felt rushed, and I feel like I wasn't prepared to succeed.
I think Dr. Weller is a great professor! He did a great job at explaining concepts and being engaging! He was also very helpful in office hours. However, I do think that some of the pacing was a little rushed, and I don't feel as though I was fully prepared for the new content that was on the final. Otherwise, I would definitely have him again!
Dr. Weller is a great professor who explains tough concepts in ways that are easily digestible. Hardly ever, if at all, did I feel as if he put things on our exams that did not correlate to what had been asked of us in lecture or studio. Each exam was only worth 14%, and he offered a heavy dose of extra credit. Dr. Weller for president!
Dr. Weller is very kind, respectful, and enthusiastic. He actually makes changes based on feedback, like creating video explanations for tough problems. He encouraged us to reach out for help often, and the team had many office hours during the week. This class was hard, but I feel like it was created to where I could succeed if I put in the time.
Professor Weller is good but he needs some improvements such as preparing students more for exams as well as explaining the concepts in a better way. GSI's weren't that perfect and most of the times they didn't know what we're asking for. Overall good but not perfect or as expected.
Weller was an amazing professor who did a good job of breaking down material. He was always accessible outside of class and went out of his way to help if you ask for it. The tests were fairly hard (and varied in difficulty) but he gives a lot of extra credit. Overall, very sweet guy who really cares a lot about his students.
I can not stress enough how amazing Dr. Weller is as a teacher. Although, physics 150 is challenging course, Dr. Weller devoted a lot of his time to teaching each week, especially in office hours where he thoughtfully broke down challenging problems and approached all questions with true passion for physics and respect for all his students.
I love Dr. Weller and personally, he's one of the best lecturers in umich. His office hours are really helpful but the exams are VERY hard. I did all the modules and practice exam problems and still the exam scores didn't turn out well. I think people with a physics background do better in this course.
If you don't have a physics background, this will be a difficult class. However, Dr. Weller does everything in his power to make lecture interesting, and clearly cares about students. He'll easily match and exceed the effort that you put forth into this class. Don't expect the median grade on atlas unless you're ready to work for it.
Dr.Weller is a fantastic person and is willing to help anyone succeed. However, the tests are pretty hard even if you do all the necessary practice, so I recommend office hours (I think this will get better in future semesters).
Dr. Weller is a great lecturer. He is incredibly fair, and is always willing to answer student questions. He really does believe in his students, and encourages perseverance. His exams can be difficult, but his grading is very fair and so long as you keep up with the workload you will know where you are in the course.
Very engaging lectures, provides resources to succeed on exams, and good communication. I was scared to take physics, but his enthusiasm made me appreciate the subject so much more. Explains concepts in a way that a 5-year old could understand.
Dr. Weller is an amazing professor. His lectures are hilarious and really easy to understand. His exams weren't always easy, but if you do the practice problems, you'll be fine. He is also generous with extra credits and there are a lot of opportunities to raise your grade. I would definitely recommend him!
Dr. Weller was an amazing professor who takes the time to help you understand concepts in office hours. I also really liked how he remembers students' names and is very attentive. The exams were pretty challenging but the extra credit helps to buffer your grade.
He was a great professor and seemed to want all students to succeed. I appreciated his demos in class and how he was always available to help. I highly recommend his office hours!
I went to all of Dr. Weller's lectures this semester only because his lectures were that amazing. He does a great job of explaining concepts, he clearly cares about all of his students, and he is a large part of the reason why I enjoyed taking the course.
Dr. Weller is one of my favorite professors at the University of Michigan. He brings his passion for physics into every lecture and always keeps the perspective of students in mind when teaching. His office hours are welcoming and collaborative, I would not have gotten as much out of Physics without Dr. Weller's commitment to his students' growth.
