Funny, nice, and a very helpful teacher. This is an easy A class. No need to study because everything is OPEN book and open notes test and quizzes. If you don't pass this class, then something must be really wrong with you because this class is so EASY!
In my opinion: did any of u guys had him? if u did, is he a fair guy when it comes to grading in the end? does he bump his students who are in the B+ range to an A? Thank you. I am in his 1C class and want to get an A in the class. Sadly, i ca
he is not very good at explaining stuff. He gets mad if you ask him questions. however, he can be nice at times. he makes stuff seem really easy when it really isn't. nonetheless, is is REALLY fair in grading.
He is excellent in teaching and can explain very clearly. He has a very good handwriting that you can easily follow! He is funny too. In my experience, he is the best math instructor. I'm happy to get a chance to write about him.
Hmm, that was a rather simple class, though everyone else seemed to have a hard time. He tends to talk slowly but clearly. The tests are of moderate difficulty, but they cover the material well.
Let me sum it up for u: Doesn't check homewrk. Tests/final are EASY. Grades VERY easy. Only counts tests/final). Some find his lectures boring but helpful. Just practice, do ur homewrk, stay awake, and listen (Key to an EASY A)! EASY CLASS, SO TAKE IT!
He is a nice guy. Fair grading. The test is moderate. Not too hard and not too easy.
Easy class.
He gives a quiz every class. Does not check homework. He jumps steps when teaching formulas so U can get lost easy. I asked for help on a section and he gave me a form to fill out 4 a tutor.
This teacher has got to be the worse teacher at de anza. He has a horrible teaching style and he bases most all of your grade on the final. I highly recomend not taking him.
Not a bad class at all, even for a math phobic like me. Helpful teacher, explains things clearly, gives extra points on exams. If you don't have to struggle with math, I'm sure you'll do very well in this class.
Great teacher! Very helpful. He is very clear and if you do your homework it will be an easy class. He doesn't even check hw. tests and quizzes aren't that bad. Wish I could take more of his classes.
I took this class for a P/NP grade and barely passed with a 66%, thats a "C". He tricks you by telling you to study for things that wont be on the test, and some problems on the test are new problems you never seen before. No EC! He is not recom
He is very helpful! Great teacher!
If you take this guy your in for it. He is boring, monotone and he can make you hate math even more if you hated it already. Take a class with him and you'll live to regret it.
To not take this instructor. That's it, plain and simple.
OMG, he's horrible. DON'T take his class, u even can't hear his voice!
He is a good teacher. a little monotone but he does try his best to get his students to understand the material. He also doesnt give many tests and tells you want to expect on the ones he does give...EASY
umm.. goodluck.. hahah. you will need it! cant understand what he is teaching. forgets half way through the math problem. test are tough as heck. good luck if your planning on taking him.
i thought he was very understandable. haven't taken math in a long time so he's great! take this class if you are looking for a slow and easy to understand professor. his test are not hard, and the quizzes are basically the basics of the homework. take this class. you'll be glad you did.
pretty easy class. but not that great of a grader.
OH MY GOD! THIS CLASS WAS SO BORING! HE IS THE MOST BORING TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN! HE MAKES ME HATE MATH EVEN MORE! RECOMMEND YOU DON'T TAKE HIM BECAUSE HE REALLY DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TEACH. TEACHES WITH HIS BACK TURNED TO YOU.
wheeler is a nice teacher and everything but his class is so boring because you just want to fall asleep in his class most of the time.his tests are not that hard you just got to do hw and pay attention in class.
this guy is so organized and so professional. he doesn't let anybody fall behind on his teachings. gives good evplanation. just go to his classes everyday
Temper, temper, temper. This guy can get steamy! He confuses you with a one hour class covering new work and then makes you take the midterm (old work). Yeah, I know, it doesn't make sense! When another student and I confronted him the argument ended up outside (no, not a brawl. Not a bad teacher. But good luck.
Mr. Wheeler is a great person, he is the nicest guy in the world, but he doesn't know how to explain, he confuses you more. If you want to learn you need another teacher. He is sweet and VERY HELPFUL, but he doesn't know the subject. Not for statistics, probably for Calculus. If you want to learn look for someone else.
he is a gud teacher...sometimes his class becomes boring...bit it is fun to be in his class...his tests r easy....but explanation is not so gud...i recommend people to take his class
Very hard. No extra credit or bell curving. U need 90+% to get an A!!!! If you have trouble keeping up, you should go to another class. He'll actually tell you to drop!
My second class with him. He's a good person who wants the whole class to understand the subject, and he explains things well. The homework he assigns is relevant and the pool from which he puts together his tests. What you come away with from Wheeler depends on the work you want to put in.
wheeler sucks. he doesn't know what he's teaching! if you want good grade, do not take this guy.. his tests are hard and there's nothing that can help your grade. if you mess up one test, it's over!!!
WELL...his tests are very difficult, and he didn't explain thing too clear..i have gpa 4.0 last quarter, but it will no longer 4.0 because of this class
Class is boring because the lecture is boring. He puts people to sleep. His notes are unclear, and the hard problems in the tests arn't in the lecture. Three tests and an exam are the only grades, so if you skrew one test, your grade will go down. Many people dropped this class.
Professor Wheeler gives tests that get progressively harder. Though there's not a lot of room to improvement if you bomb a testonly 3 tests!!), he's very good with taking up hw problems and answering questiosnkd.
take his class if u want to pull down ur gpa!
Not difficult while you did all the questions he asked you to do,it will cover lot of problems. He teachs directly,he will help you when you get lost. You may ask for other method to have a better grade like ASK HIM TO DROP A TEST RESULT. recommend to hardwarking student.
this teacher does not teach he reads from the book word for word. i did not pay for someone to read to me . he is boring listen to my ipod the whole time because what he was saying is directly word for word in the book. he has no original thoughts or how to relate stats into everyday life experience he just reads from the book!!
He is a pretty chill teacher. If you get a couple 100s or decent grades..he won't care if you mess around. Otherwise, the class is kinda boring cuz he reads off the book. The tests get harder and harder.
Not recommended for students who want to learn or those who dislike math and/or can't study out of the book. His tests start out easy and get harder. Allows a page of notes for each exam; drops the lowest exam score. Reads out of the book during lectures - he doesn't provide explanations on anything. I learned pretty close to nothing in his class.
The tests sucks. Don't take this class.
Boring, not an easy grader, and just horrible. Don't take him.
just horrible. dont take
This guy is so boring, and his tests are really hard. Do NOT take.
just bad!! Don't bother with this guy
His class is so easy if u still the book by yourself. For every test, he let us have a whole page for note and you can write anything on it. However, his voice is small and i can hardly hear what he say even i sit in front. One thing i learn from his class is drawing. His 3D drawing is so good.
Old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you.... So I made the mistake of taking his class in the late afternoons and of my it was so boring! I'd fall asleep almost every day, I felt so bad. He's really old and doesn't respond to e-mails so don't bother taking him. I dropped his class & took Susan Dean instead & got an A. Not recommended
He was a pretty good teacher when it came to explaining things and he's a nice old chap but I feel he should have not made us show up everyday to get homework probs off the board. He need homeworks list. Tests very difficult, he grades hard. But if you stick with the class (don't drop!) and ask lots of questions when you get stuck, you will pass...
He is really nice and kind. Highly recommended him.
I'd have to say, this teacher is just straight up boring. It's so hard just to stay awake in the class and he gives the homework at the end so you can suffer for a few hours. Although the homework is important, a lot of the test questions are based on it.
you can pass the class without his teaching because he goes in random order and takes forever to explain one thing. Also he continuously makes mistakes, so slowly it becomes really hard to believe that he is actually teaching the right thing. If you find a way to get each night's hw, and show up for the tests, you are good. You don't learn much.
First time taking trig? Don't take this guy, especially in a late afternoon class, you'll get bored. He's a HARD grader-tests are VERY HARD. He doesn't seem helpful, he seemed upset when we asked him Q's. You mostly teach yourself from the book. Impossible to get an A. I missed 3 problems on a test and I got an F on that test.
OK!DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. First of all, he doesn't know how to teach. All he does is copying stuff from the book.WORD FOR WORD!Second, he goes in random order and whenever he starts a new section, he doesn't even tell you what section he is on. And when you ask him, he's gonna embarrass you by saying that you didn't pay attention and say craps.
Very moody individual. His tests are difficult in the beginning, but becomes very slightly merciful as the quarter goes on. He makes things more difficult to understand and uses longer/difficult methods for solving a problem. Ask him a question and he'll shoot it down and end up talking about something different. Definitely not taking again.
He's boring, but any 2 hour class is boring so it's a given. He usually teaches straight from book or examples with different numbers. His tests are easy, but I already knew most of the stuff because I got a 5 on the AP CALC AB test.
I was very pleased with this professor and class. The material was clear, concise, and not overwhelming. He is super generous with partial points on exams. He appreciates students who try. If you don't care, he won't either. I highly recommend him to anyone who struggles with math.
He is very boring teacher. His tests are extremely hard. I got a 5 on the Calc AB AP too, but i failed his class! He hates when people talk while he lectures. He draws graphs amazingly. He lectures with his back facing the students, which annoys me. If you do all the problems he assigns in the book, I say you will probably end up with a D+ or C.
Extremely understandable teacher. If this is your first time taking Trig, TAKE his class. Ask him during class, and he'll answer all your Qs and explain why. He disentangles each topic and exercise he presents to the class so you can deeply understand. Exams are easy if you do the exercises,HW, which he doesn't grade. He grades by Exams and quizzes
He grades very hard. He has 3 midterms and 1 final. If you fail a test, you're screwed. If you do all the homework you MIGHT pass the class. He is a boring teacher, but he would tell a joke once a month or two. He depends on the book for the lectures. I got a 5 on the AP test, but I ended up failing his class. He needs to speak up. He is very quiet
Do HW. Although he is kinda boring(would let u wanna fall asleep), his teaching is clearly and all based on textbook. But u should quite understand 1A WELL. Usually I would read my EWRT's novels instead of focusing on his teaching. Kinda helping me keep awake.
Didn't really pay attn since i took trig in high school but De Anza placed me in this math level. He's very clear with his examples and allows one page of notes on exams. Assigns hw for your own good but does not collect it. He doesn't take attendance. I missed the final bc I didn't know he changed the final date but he let me make it up :)
He is a really good teacher but kind of boring, though really nice. When he explains things he makes it very clear and understandable and he is always willing to give you help of you need it. Also he gives you a full page of notes for the test. I recomend taking him especially if you're not that great at trig
Horrible teacher. even if you get the right answer but you don't explain it well you get none or only one point of credit. Doesn't help and gets angry when the class got a median score of 0 on a quiz. obviously if the scores are that bad its not our fault. its the teacher.
He is not good at all. That's it
Nice guy, helpful when you ask him questions. Allows a half page of notes for the tests. Exceptional handwriting, haha.
great teacher. really easy to understand. at times he gives a lot of information and it can be a little overwhelming, but i take notes...be sure to take notes! he lets you bring in a page of notes for all his tests, and doesn't collect/grade homework.
Alrite kind of weird at times
he's not easy but very nice.He includes 3 midterms and 1 finals plus quizzes.but ENDED UP dropping the lowest midterm and exclude the quizzes.midterms aren't easy.He doesn't collect hmwk.BUT DO IT!cuz most of his test's questions are from hmwk! plus he lets you bring one page of notes but he doesn't check your notes. He wants us to pass hise class!
Easily put students into DEEP sleep. Recommended if u cant sleep at night n are craving for sleep!!!! That's it!!!!
Great teacher. Do the homework and you'll get an A. Teaches very well, great handwriting and is always willing to help.
very good teacher. explains well, and takes the time to make sure you understand. very dependent on textbook.
This class is super boring. Don't skip class because he gives quizes every day. He explains things well and the class isn't hard. It's just REALLY hard to stay awake. Do the homework and you have nothing to worry about.
He's a very nice teacher! If you do all the HW he assigned, getting an A is not an easy task at all! The way he speaks is funny but he speaks kind of slow, and he has a small voice which can easily put you into sleep. =D He is nice teacher though.
He's quite good in explaining. Sometimes a bit boring, but his lectures are actually clear. His handwriting is very good. His exam questions are also based on what he teaches. Take good notes, practice and do homework, and you should do fine!
Very good math teacher, go to class and do hw and you'll do fine.
No homework, tests are a bit hard if you dont study. Quizzes are a piece of cake. Overall class wasnt that bad. Hes just very monotone and goes off into his own world of teaching all the time. He'll be teaching us math 114 stuff then caculus out of no where.
HE IS AN AWESOME TEACHER. He is sooooooo clear when he explains everything! Tests are so easy if you just follow along! There are quizzes every class period, but they are SO easy! Honestly, best math teacher I have ever had! If you dont get something he will explain it again! Hes awesome, sure hes kinda monotone, but you learn what you need.
Wheeler is very disorganized. Doesn't tell you what section of the book he is talking about unless you ask and doesn't tell you in the syllabus what the sections of the book he will be talking about. He is very nice and the grades are reflected upon the exams he gives out. Easy class if you attend classes and ask questions and do the homework.
Even though there are lot of dummies in the class, he still cares about the class. He has amazing hand-writing and got somewhat humors. Attendance is not mandatory. There were daily quiz only during beginning of the quarter. 3 tests and final. He doesn't check homework but study the problems he went over in the class, you'll get an A!!!
If you're not really VERY strong in math, take another teacher. His tests are difficult. He loves giving students hard questions. He WILL NOT GIVE points for real effort in answering the questions. Wrong answer = 0 points regardless of the fact you tried.
I think he is getting a little old to be teaching. He often messes up on his lectures, (ex: using an addition sign instead of subtraction) which if your trying to learn and take notes can be very frustrating when he goes back because something he did "wasnt right" nice guy, just tough to follow
HORRIBLE teacher that regurgitates the textbook word for word. if u can study from the textbook, his lectures are useless and dead boring. Makes mistakes constantly, probably due to poor eyesight and memory as a result of OLD age. He should retire and free good students from the probable trap that i and a few others unfortunately fell in.
This guy grades tests terribly. No partial credit, it doesnt matter if you try if its incomplete or not correct he wont give you anything for it. He tells you almost exactly what will be on the tests at least. Does not teach very well as he is quite boring but math in general is boring.
Mr. Wheeler is an okay professor. There are better professors than him,but he's not terrible. Must do all your hw even though he doesn't collect it. It will help you pass his tests/quizzes because most of the problems are identical from the hw in the textbook.
Class was a waste of time. He never assigned anything from the book, just homework online through webassign, which is where I basically learned this entire course. He tries to teach straight from the book, but has bad presentation and doesn't really tell you what you're learning. Put things on tests you've never seen before. Not recommended.
Wheeler is a reasonable professor. His way of teaching is understandable and if you do the homework he assigns, it will definitely help you better comprehend the material and aid you during exams. Also, Wheeler has amazingly neat handwriting, so he certainly does not put up with sloppiness.
Wheeler is a great teacher! He is friendly... if you pay attention and keep your handwriting neat on tests. He reminds me of my grandpa in a nice way. Neat hand writing on board and is happy to explain problems in many ways. I highly recommend him, I took his classes to quarters in a row...sorry I can't get him for the next level :)
Grampa wheeler, Wheeler the stealer, freerun wheeler. Funny teacher and pretty easy class. 3 tests and one final. He didn't count our lowest test score out of the midterms! We had homework at the beginning but halfway through it just kind of stopped. If you go every day and take notes and ask questions, easy A.
Wheeler is great. Go to every class, ask questions, review the material and you'll pass his class.
1) He's a nice guy. 2) No QUIZZES. Three tests and drop the lowest one. 3) Homework do not need to be submitted.
Nice man. Entire class is a lecture from the textbook, verbatim. You do not need to go to class if you can read the textbook self study. No midterm, just a couple of tests and the final. Lowest test is dropped. Textbook can be found online. You are graded solely on your test scores. HW optional, just do it. No easy points given. No +-. An A is 87%
UPDATE: wheeler changed majorly since his previous quarters. His teaching style is the same but now we have a quiz EVERY DAY and you never really know what's on it. And if you miss class 3 times you're dropped and he wont tell you. I liked how he taught for 41 but he got a lot more strict and its a not an easy A, not gonna take him for 43
Homework is not required to turn in. Tests are not easy. Lecture often goes too fast and confusing. He's willing to help if you have question. To pass, you need to be smart or at least work really hard on your own.
Quiz every single class meet,. Test get harder and harder, but nothing to do with the lecture. Don't take him.
Honestly he's a nice guy but if you can avoid it, take another 43 teacher or just wait another quarter. Class is difficult if you arent disciplined enough to learn it on your own because thats basically what you're gonna be doing the entire quarter. Grade is based solely on tests which are hard so you're basically dead if you do bad on one
This teacher expects you to already know what hes talking about even if you're new to the subject. He uses mathematician vocabulary that is hard to follow. Super slow and boring class. only graded on 4 tests. you have to pass all of them to pass which is pretty hard since this class requires alot of self teaching. i had to drop due bad scores
He has a neat handwriting, beside there is not a single thing that I like about him. He expected everyone to understand the material. No hw, lectures are boring and long. He did not care about his student. In class, he just go on and on, he didn't care if you understand or not. Quiz every day. Test are tough, nothing to do with lecture
Worst, 87% to get an A, sound like easy right? But there is no way, test is touch, cover material unrelated to the midterm or test. No need to turn in hw. Half of class get lower than 70% on midterm. Quiz every class meet so you could not cut class.
Worst, test are tough, hard grader. He doesn't care if you understand the materials or not. Have to drop his class with W bc I don't want to drop me GPA. Quiz every class meet
Professor Wheeler is one of the great professors I have taken, I would take it again because he is willing to help any students even if you are no longer in his class. I would take it again even though his lectures are long, but his style of teaching is quite easy for me to understand.
He's a very nice person that I've met. Always here to help students. He seems too old to teach. He gives easy tests and quiz. Easy A for me!!!
Attendance affects your grade and he will call you out if you are not paying attention. Put your phone away and follow the lecture. Class isn't very exciting but you need to know what he covers to study for the midterms. Not great at lecturing but he wants you to learn, so do the homework and ask for help when you need it.
One of my favorite. Never gave my class a single quiz. Doesn't collect HW. Simple tests if you did his HW. It IS Calculus so studying is required. He wants you to understand the material, and be in class. He is quite friendly, and jokes with the students. Lectures can drag on, however. He covers material slowly, so either figure it out or be bored.
Some took calc in high school (+me) & he told us the test curve which was bimodal so I'm guessing the bottom half was the people who didn't take calc b4 and the upper half was people who did. VERY SLOW lectures. Easy tests if you study/hw. Self studying helps cuz I find the lectures aren't that helpful. 0 quizzes so far. 20 pts off for absences.
Lectures are kind of boring but he's really fair and can explain the content well. Tests are pretty easy if you read the textbook and do the homework, and he dropped our lowest test score this quarter.
I just finished his final exam. his tests are super easy, all problems are from book or what he talked during the lecture. BUT, his final is a disaster. the problems on the final that you would never have seen before. they are not from book, neither his lecture.
Took him for 41 and 43. Probably one of my favorite teachers that I've had, but I can also understand why others might not like him. If you want to do well in his class STUDY THE HOMEWORK. He picks problems from the test and review sections and even from the homework section of the book. Show him that you really care about the class.
love him! best math professor I've taken. he's so nice and is midterms are so easy its straight from the homework problems which he does not collect! pop quizzes were only 2 this quarter and were really easy. he teaches very good as well and tests u on the material taught. just take this teacher and u won't regret it you'll know why once u take him
if you want an easy A then take him!
3Tests+Final Test Drop test w lowest % Can't drop Final Test Starts every class w/ HW questions that u want him to solve ***Online hw-Question Help-View an Example shows step by step solution*** Participate and solve questions on the board-shows him how u solve, then helps u through them. The info sticks better since u remember that time more
3 tests (1 page of notes allowed). 1 final. "Weekly" quizzes; not every week though... He takes attendance. He drops the lowest test out of the 3. All the tests are based on hwk. Hwk is not collected. He breaks down the material/formulas so it's easier to understand. He's a nice professor though he does rant sometimes due to low test scores.
His class is VERY boring. Be ready to sit through long lectures. No group work, homework is optional, only gave one quiz. SHOW UP THE CLASS BEFORE THE TEST. He will give you the exact problems you need to know.
Literally the worst math class I have ever taken. He solves one simple problem on the board, without explanation then expects the whole class to have mastered the skills. Often solves his own problems wrong, messing up everyone. Quizzes and tests are easy. Homework not graded. Rude and inconsiderate. Definitely should stop teaching.
Easily one of the worst math classes I ever had. The way he speaks puts you to sleep. But you really need to pay attention. He skips around a lot and messes up his work. The actual way he teachers is confusing as well. Theres no group work to reinforce what he taught and personally, a vast majority of my class either dropped or is failing.
Hard to get a hold of outside of class since his hours are out of the way. Lectures are boring and the main thing to know is the section he's lecturing on, which he says at the end of class unless you ask. Also not very tech savvy and needs students to remind him for projector visibility. Lastly, makes mistakes often and needs student awareness.
