He does not think he is Hindu. I don't know how you people got that. Also he does not favor Indian students. I'm an Indian and he didn't give me a good grade on his essay exams. He gave me the grade that I deserved.

Gives you sheet with 4 essay ?s. Of these he will pick 2 and you will pick 1 on exams. His knowledge is vast in the subject. He doesnt expect perfection. I got an A and only read chapters and looked over notes. Its a very interesting class and teacher

class was not very interesting. If you do the reading you don't really need the lecture but he places WAY too much focus on attendance. If you don't like having to have perfect attendance or if you have a short attention span this class is not for you.
Wonderful professor! He tells the best stories and he is an amazing professor. He understands other cultures and corelates it to our own culture. Read, and go to class and you will be alright.
He's a character no doubt. Someone who grows up to write novels or screenplays will use him in their work. Very knowledgeable and gives one a good foundation in studying Asian Religions. Expresses relativistic views at times but a good teacher.

Dr. White is cool, but his classes can be difficult. Keep up with the reading and ATTEND CLASS. He calls roll everyday and every once in awhile he'll even send out "spies" to see if you're just plain skipping class. Great prof, though.
Be prepared to work for your grade in this class; he lectures for the entire time and you need to know ALL of it. Takes attendence, but tests are relatively easy: choice of MC or essay. Lots of reading and you are expected to know detailed stuff. Be prep.
Lovely, nice man, TERRIBLE TEACHER! The buddhism class had ESSAY TESTS, there was a TON of reading, and there was a 20 PAGE PAPER WiTh an ORAL PRESENTATION! This was not an O or a W goal either! AVIOD THIS CLASS at least, probably the teacher, too!!
Name of the class is Asian Religions, don't expect to learn about-or even ask about-anything other than India, because apparently, that huge land mass to the east of it (you know, China) isn't Asia or something. The Asia-Pacific doesn't exist, either.
Dr. White is very knowledgeable and well meaning but at first he comes across cold and closed minded. Eventually, though, he became one of my favorite professors because of leniency in paper topic choice but might put you to sleep before 11 AM.
interesting class, you MUST keep up though, only 3 tests but 5 POP reading quizzes so you gotta stay on top of things, really, really knows his stuff, participating in this class makes things a lot easier, dont be afraid to ask ?s
He's a hilarious guy. But he'll get you on reading tests. He didn't give us any the first half of the semester, then he sprung 5 on us in like 3 weeks. So definetly read the books. I got a 30 on the readings, but a c,a, and b on the tests. Take essay test
The worst teacher in the religion department. He reading assignments and talks about his love for India all day. Instead of teaching on the reading. He know nothing about other asian religions just about India. If you want an headache take the class.

I've never had a professor that loved what he was doing and enjoyed it as much as Dr. White. This is a very wise man that makes class very entertaining if you take advantage of his openess qualities, hes the type you can make jokes with. Take notes on the lecture and you'll be fine on the two exams.

He takes his job way to seriously. He will not answer any question asked to him. he will not help his students even if they are unclear of what is going on. his tests are way too specific from the readings, that you dont even remember.if you can, avoid taking him.
There are only 3 grades in the class. Allows no room for mistakes. You can chose between taking an essay test or mult choice test. The mult choice tests are impossible.Don't take them.There is a lot of boring reading in this class. Don't take it unless intererested in indian religion
This class was impossible... be warned: if you love India take this class, if not avoid at all costs. All you do is sit there and listen to his boring lectures. Very hard class with lots of studying just to pass the class. Run if you have him!
Good Professor. Certainly knows his stuff and is always willing to sit down with students if they have any questions. Make sure to do all assigned readings because he will ask for class input.
Okay I'm not going to lie, there is alot of reading that is required but what class doesn't have its daily readings. I think he is a wonderful professor that tries his best to help you out and make sure you get your money's worth of class time. He grades more than fair. Go to class/ pay attention
This guy is a jerk! He opens the floor to questions and then insults you for 20 minutes. Avoid him at ALL costs!
really not bad, strict on attendance, kinda lame, but i think he prefers "passionate". maybe a little boring at times. but not bad.
No matter what course of his you take you will learn about India. Also be warned, he has a Jekyl/Hyde thing going on and you never know what to expect. Boring lectures. I did find him helpful however when I went to his office for help. Expect essay tests. Avoid his classes if you can.

He sucks! I hate him sooo much. To start with the class is way to boring and way to much to read. If you like hearing about India all the time then this is the class for you. Also if you don't like this class you better not skip it because he failed me over 4 absences no matter what the excuse was.
Do not take this class if yo do not want another headache. He is strict on attendence and you have to read and be invovled int the class to get a good grade. How would you feel about a professor who does not teach you anything but, rather show you slides and make a couple of comments? He comes to class late,unprepared, and he can't answer students questions clearly.
I was not impressed by this professor because he wants you to come into class and sit down an shutup.On the first test we were tested on !@ chapters> When another student asked what areas to concentrate on Dr Wite said read the chapter and you will no what you are being tested on. You will read a 1000+ pages during that semester some be prepared.
Really hard tests, at least 50 pages of reading each class. You have to read newspapers outside of class. It's all about india and nothing else. Do not take this class.

I HATE HIM!!! I spent three months working on a paper for his class, and when it was time to present it, he called me STUPID infront of the whole class. I never had a professor put me down like that before. He told me that my whole paper was GARBAGE. I was so humilated infront of the entire class. DON'T EVER TAKE HIS CLASSES. TRUST ME!!!!
This professor shows up late(15-20 min.) everyday. He encourages questions, then makes you feel stupid for asking. He interrupted a student during her presentation and YELLED at her for 10 min. telling her she wasted OUR time...although he is late every day with no apology. This instructor is disrespectful of students and unprofessional.
great professor he clarifies the reading from the day before and he tries to make everything clear but he takes attendance so its the only class i dont skip ^_-
Dr. White is great! He does wander a bit from his lectures, but if you just do the reading you will have no problems on the tests. If you need help, just ask him and he will do whatever he can to help you. He is excited about teaching, and that is what makes an otherwise boring class fun. I'd definitely take him again.
This was an awful class. Professor went over only 2 pages of reading of 5o pages and wasn't very clear! The test didn't make any sence to me and was very unclear! I would not suggest this class to anyone!
This guy cant keep anyones attention. Even if you attend his course, he only gives 2 tests. if you have to take his tests, take the essay ones- they have more grey area. This guy really needs to teach stuff that is going to be on the tests better. UNCC should discontinue the entire class. When are you ever going to use Gandhi in engineering.
Avoid this professor! He is very boring, very unclear, and is never on time. If you do take this class, dont bother showing up until 10-15 minutes after the class would begin, he won't be there anyway. Only two tests and a paper make up your entire grade. Lots of reading is required and a lot of the material from his lectures are not on tests!
I HATE HIM!! HE SUCKS SO BAD. he shows up at least 15 minutes late and then marks you tardy or absent. he always thinks of the lamest excuses for why he is late but never apologizes. his tests are hard and dont even follow the notes. do not take this nutty whack guy...you will regret it
i would not reccomend this professor. his lectures are totally scattered and have no direction. i feel like i wasted an entire semester because i dont know any more now than i did going into the class. he knows the material but hes a terrible teacher and he doesnt provide help for students that ask.

boring class, boring teacher. he's always late 10-15 minutes. only 2 exams and a paper for your grades, all given equal weight. you'll have to read a book and online indian newspapers for the paper...only take this class if you're really interested in india

I took his Hinduism class and I am not even a religious study major and I made an A in the class. As long as you come to class and actually communicate with him you will be fine! Don't let these people scare you out of making an A. Its hard work but it is possible!
This is the second (and last) class I took with Dr. White. It is nearly impossible to tell what he is looking for on essays and tests. His lectures are hit or miss; sometimes they are interesting, but other times they are SO boring. His love of the subject is obvious and he is a nice professor, but not a fun class.
Dr. White is a story-teller and likes to add to his lectures by telling stories that pertain to the material. He is quite funny at times though some students don't seem to catch it. His one area that he needs to work on is to be more flexible with questions outside of the current chapter of study. Also, always prove your point with textual citation
Dr. White is a very good & interesting professor! He is very passionate in what he teaches and is VERY knowledgeable. Attendance is mandatory, but he is a very understanding person to any problems you have (with attendance or class assignments). Don't be lazy and read and you'll get an A. He even emails the exam questions to you before the exam.
Dr. White is a classic professor in the best of terms. He is active in the field he teaches and is passionate about the topic. He expects you to read the assignments and be able to talk about them in class. While this does not reflect in his grading, it will when you take a test. Very liberal on his testing methods, but the tests are inclusive
I love Dr. White. He's very knowledgeable about the subject and very helpful, and he's also hilarious.
Dr. White is hilarious. The material is boring unless you are actually into it. i had the class at 9:30 in the morning, and he took attendance every single day. Most of the time he is pretty dry, but go to the study sessions and you will be fine.
Absolutely awful. Material was boring, he was completely disorganized in his lectures and wasn't helpful when asked for help. His TA was the only redeeming quality for the class. Attendance is mandatory, and he will fail you if you miss more than the allotted amount.. literally.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. White's class. I was very excited to take a class on South Asia and Dr. White was very passionate about his field of study and he brought that passion into his class. I feel like I learned a lot in his class. The class is not hard if you show up and pay attention. He has study sessions before tests, go to them they help!
He is slightly enjoyable and lively speaker in class. In an individual level he is very harsh though, and is not at all willing to answer questions or help. You miss more than 4 classes, you fail. No exceptions.

Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Extremely boring. The tests are completely hard and the questions don't have anything to do with what we learned in class. If you have to take this class, just bring a book or other homework to work on in the back.
I would not recommend taking any classes with this professor. He is very knowledgeable but his lectures are boring and hard to understand. He takes attendance every day and never cancels class. He is an older guy and rarely sends emails out, nothing is online. If you have a question you will get a better answer from his TA than you will from him.
Only 3 grades in the entire class. 2 tests and a paper. Takes attendance each class period, miss more than 4 and you fail. Thought this class would be interesting but turns out is just extremely boring. Says you need to buy both books but I never even opened them and made B's on both exams. I would never recommend this class or professor to anyone. You only have 2 tests and a project for your total grades. The class is large, yet he still takes attendance every single day and if you miss more than 4 classes he automatically fails you. Anytime a students asks a questions he makes them feel stupid. Lectures are very boring and long.

I hate to review him poorly, because he honestly seems like a nice guy. He loves his subject material and would be an amazing guy to have a one on one talk with. Teaching, however, is not his gift. He is very confusing. I would often ask students around me for help but they said they were just as confused. He could be hilarious though!
I never had a conversation with Dr. White but he seems like a nice guy; He was hilarious in class at times. If you do the reading (which is long and confusing and not explained in class) and take notes on the lectures, you'll do well in the class. Midterm and final (multiple choice) and a book report for extra credit.
Professor White seems to be a nice man but he is too obsessed with India. Taking Global Connections with him almost seems like learning another language. He expects you to enjoy it as much as he does, as well as know as much as he does. Frustrating class and I would recommend another professor if available
Do not take this class. He doesn't post grades anywhere. This semester, he wasn't even on the same page as his TA, meaning that whenever I had a question about anything grade wise, they would defer my question. This was even after I got into a car wreck!
A brilliant man, an excellent teacher and an enjoyable lecturer. Not a good choice if you hope to coast along without doing the reading or participating in class discussions.
If you keep up with the reading, you'll do well. Professor White knows and loves his subject, and his enthusiasm makes his lectures very enjoyable as long as you have done the assigned readings and know what he's talking about.
This professor loves to give out lots of pop quizzes on the textbook which was excruciatingly boring. Not to mention they were detailed and very open-ended. He lectures very boringly and is a pain to listen to.
A lot of reading, made all the more enjoyable by the class discussions that followed the reading.
