Very knowledgable and realtes most things to sex.

He does use sex to illustrate a lot, even so I learned a good deal.
I really disliked this instructor. He was insulting and boring and completely unhelpful.
This class was a very informative and intersting. I would recomend it to anyone who likes large lecture halls
Very interesting, gives good examples. Has "roaming nazi TAs" but other than that the class is very comfortable to be in. No reading, no assignments except one essay. No final, just three tests in the semester.
Best class I have ever taken!
funny guy, very interesting and pretty easy class; very large lecture hall though.
very opinionated, presents material in a good way
great teacher
It was a fun and interesting class. The way he presented the material really helped me understand other religions. I would have liked to know what religion he practices but he refused to tell. Super cool class and professor.
Great professor. Tests aren't completly predictable, but it will turn out fine if you study. He's interesting and motivated. Knows a lot about the subject and gives a great E.C. opportunity to go to a religous establishment and sit in on a ceremony.
Very informative class. Instructor has an excellent insight in the subject. Not a difficult class in particular, but as a previous rating stated, the tests can be unpredictable.
Really interesting man with a wealth of knowledge of his subject. Very fair in how he treats each religion, and pretty funny without being tasteless. I really enjoyed the class.
Dan Wolne is very knowledgable, patient and passionate. always willing to answer questions and is a great teacher.
Very knowledgeable about what he teaches. The 3 exams in that class are unpreditable. I think too much note taking. Class could probably be taught in a different way. Class helps you understand the different religions and why they are different.
Learned more in this class than all my years in church. Great teacher, teaches every section of religion with passion and like it is his own.
My favorite professor! He made me interested in world religions and I ver much enjoyed his class.
Very interesting lectures. Makes class fun. Great teacher. Tests can be unpredictable though. Though he is a nice guy in general, he is a complete ass about grading.
The only reason I took the class was because of the convincing of Mr. Wolne's former students. His lectures are so interesting and easy to understand. I wish I could take his class again! I would definately recommend this professor
Professor has a great understanding of the subject! Tests can be unpredictable. Studying the lecture notes should get you a passing grade, if not better.
amazing teacher makes class very fun
I did not like Prof. Wolne at all. He made a comment at the start of the semester that I didn't find appropriate and offensive. I didn't feel like it got better from there. I agree that his tests are unpredictable.
best professor i ever had i learned so much!!!
Lots of information, well structured presentations. Tests are difficult. He has different criteria for different sections of the same class (We had reading tests, his other section didn't). Very quiet class because his TA's attack anyone talking. Calls his TA's nazis, kind of rude in that respect..
great professor, tests are fine, just study the notes he gives you and you will be fine. Good teacher, learned a lot from him, very good lecturer, knows the material well. I agree, his TA's are nazi's when it comes to talking.
He is an excellent lecturer. I looked forward to going to his class every Tuesday and Thrusday.
He is (in my 5 year experience at UNM and other colleges) the single best professor at UNM in terms of clarity of lectures, knowledge of his subject, preparation for class, and ability and willingness to help his students get a good grade. I had him for 107 and eastern religions, and i loved him. And he's so darn cute, you can't help but love him
Great instructor, his knowledge of religions and cultures is amazing. This class should be a requirement for all Political Science majors. Lectures are interesting, tests are hard if you do not attend class. The study guides are helpful. Highly recommended.
Great class

Terrific teacher, willing to work for and with his students. Demonstrates terrific knowledge and brings real interest and fascination with his lectures. I highly reccomend him.
Very cool teacher. I loved his lectures and he was sympathetic to our "college" brains and made tests pretty easy. He is extreamly smart as well. That man is full of knowledge.
very wise man.. very interesting... but you must attend class to pass the tests!
hes are cool teacher, he is straight up, loud and energetic, keeps you away just attend class...
Great professor. You have to be impressed with a man who maintains the attention of a crowd of 400 with ease. I don't recommend taking this course taught by any other instructor.
Dr. Wolne is one of the best professors you will ever have. He explains the material enthusiastically and clearly and covers all the major world religions objectively.
Easy, easy
Easy and quite interesting.
Very interesting! He is so smart and teaches in a way that makes all religions interesting and respectful. :) Great class!
Wonderful professor! I love that he actually knows what he is talking about and can actually explain the material. My best professor yet.
He is so helpful and very apporachable. Everything he says is very clear and it is obvious that he knows the matieral that he is teaching.
definitley a good teacher...inspirational and insightful
Coolest teacher EVER!!! I learned a lot from his class and had fun at the same time (it was my favorite calss of the semester). Tests not too hard as long as you attend class (which you won't mind doing!)
It was relious
good teacher!
Very enthusiastic and interesting.
Coolest teacher EVER!!
He doesnt know much about Hinduism!
I never had a class before or since where I wasn't allowed to ask a question during the class. And no, standing around during the break doesn't count. What a twit.
Can't say enough good things about Dr. Wolne! My only complaint is that he doesn't teach more classes. Knows his topic well and communicates it great. His TA is the only problem when it comes to grading.
Makes subject interesting -- very knowledgeable
One of the best instructors I've ever had. Wonderful teacher, very respectful to the topics at hand. while still having a great sense of humor. No tricks on his tests, but you ned to be in class taking notes to pass them. TA's are terrible. Only complaint is that he doesn't teach more classes.
I really dislike him. Seems VERY arrogant and this class should be an online class. He talks like he is completely correct and anything else is not. His paper is also ridiculous. READ the intructions carefully...
I really enjoy this class. He makes the subject matter so interesting by relating it to things that influence our own lives and how we perceive our society.
Really interesting class, so long as you're not looking to interact. The proffessor knows his material, but doesn't allow talking or even questions during his lectures.
Good teacher and I enjoyed the lectures but I found he and the TA seem to hold the term paper to impossibly high expectations.
He's an ok prof, but it's really hard to go to such a huge class. Although if you go to every class, and do the readings you should do just fine. The term paper was a little much, they had HUGE expectations from that, and it was rather time consuming. I'd still take the class because it's pretty interesting and it's really applicable right now.
awesome professor! great class!
Dan is an awesome lecturer. He is clear, effective, & enthusiastic. His paper grading TA's are ignorant & arrogant. They grade un-professionally and leave poorly written suggestions as if they rushed through it. Dan refuses to review your paper unless you allow him the right of changing your grade, which he promises to either lower or better.
Great class. Dr. Wolne is very enthusiastic about teaching, ane he makes the class fun and interesting. I highly recommend his class.Very large classes and he is not able to take any questions because of this.
Very good professor. His TA's (or GA's as he calls them) don't really know how to grade, but that's beside the point. He makes lecture somewhat interesting, although he does elaborate way more than he needs to. Just pay attention to the powerpoints and you'll do just fine.
he is one hell of a teacher! he is the best and I say the best of all professors! just take it or lose it!
excelent lecurer the best i have seen around. he turns a 700 student lecture into an one on one conversation.
Dr. Wolne is an excellent teacher. His lectures are very clear and he does a good job explaining everything with good and fun examples. If you are having trouble with the class go to his office hours and he is more than willing to help you out. Extra Credits are fun too!
Great! He was entertaining and interesting. The tests wer super easy and so was the paper, if you went to class and listened also the final is not cumulative. I got a 100% in the class.
His Atheism class is very interesting, however he says he assigns a weekly paper to make us read but when it is obvious through the paper reading was done the grade was a C. That's another thing- the grading scale was ridiculous, it was out of 4 points! An 'A' to a 'C'! you're kidding me!
Dr. Wolne is by far one of the best professors at UNM. Very dynamic and passionate about teaching. This was the first time this class was offered and he did a great job with it. Very well organized and interesting!
He really cares about what he teaches which makes his boring lectures seem interesting. I worked really hard on the paper & got a b+ & scolded for writing too much. he took the entire semester to return the papers, but other than that the class wasnt bad. great professor.
Wolne is a good teacher, keeping his lectures interesting. Although, on the paper the grading is absolutely biased. Then when you go into his office hours to try and justify it for a better grade he will be rude which then makes you wish that you'd never gone at all.
I took this class a couple years ago so I dont know how much applies any more, but the paper was easy. Just pay attention in class. You dont even have to really read the book. Tests were easy too. I find his lectures very biased towards certain religions though he claims he is not. And his TAs were annoying little nazis that surrounded class too
Very interesting class, however if you think this is an easy A, then think again. Very time consuming. Lots of reading, and weekly 1pg papers required. I took it to satisfy an upper div. humanities reguirement. He'll give a choice of writing 15-17 pg essay or taking the final. I wrote a 17 pg essay for the final, and got an A. Very good teacher.
I absolutely love Dr. Wolne as a professor. His lectures were much more interesting than I thought they would be and they kept me coming to class. He doesn't require attendance but if you attend class there's no reason to read the boring book. He takes the paper very seriously and doesn't grade it very fairly but the tests are super easy.
You have to go to class to do well on the tests. Test reviews hardly narrow down material enough, so you have to study everything, which is alot. Follow the paper grading rubric to the tee. The TA's suck at grading.
Professor Wolne was a great professor. I have recommended him to a number of people. Definately not an easy A, however his GA's grade his papers, not him! I felt they were fair, his GA's change our regularly so its hard to rate on them. I never felt he was biased towards any specific religion. Definately has an interest in people learning!
Dan is an awesome professor. His notes are clear, but go to class! Everything in his notes is directly on the test, which is great because he adds a lot of extra info during the lectures. So you don't really have to listen lol. TA's suck when it comes to grading!! Just show up and take notes and you'll be fine.
Dan is a wonderful teacher! He really knows his stuff and knows how to explain it in a very understandable way. Go to class and take notes. It's interesting material. The tests aren't bad at all if you've studied. Work hard on the paper- the GAs grade harshly.
good class good professor not for someone unwilling to think!
He's a great teacher. It's not an easy class, but it's not really difficult either. I really enjoyed it.
Easy course. You just need to study about and hour or two per week. Essays are a little boring but are graded fairly. Just make sure to go to class and take notes.
Eastern religions is a great class. If you enjoyed 107 then I recommend taking 263! Everything that is on the test is in the notes. AND he tells you the essay questions he puts on the test. In lecture he adds a lot of extra stuff, which is interesting, but you don't really need it. Just show up and take the notes and study.
AWESOME lecturer! However, his TA's grade the papers ridiculously hard and when you question about your grade you sense an unwillingness to help! Overall, really enjoyed the class!
I absolutely loved his class and lectures. Many complain that he is a hard professor, but if you attend EVERY class and take notes it's very easy to get an A in the class. He is passionate about the subject which makes it that much more interesting. I'd strongly suggest this course to anyone willing to put in a little hard work..
You dont have to go to class but you will miss his notes. The notes are a good way to study for tets, but he gives you good review material too. 3 tests are multiple choice; 50 questions, and fairly simple. Paper was not too bad, but it took 6 weeks to get our grade back. way past withdrawl deadline w/out deans approval
Genuinely passionate about his field and informative. He's a very good lecturer. No "um"s or "uh"s. Keeps your attention. His was the quietest class of 500 I have ever attended. If your going to take Living World Religions take it with him!
Professor Wolne was great. He's the best lecturer that I have had at UNM thus far. He knows how to get your attention and keep it. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss, you miss alot of the notes. The paper was easy stick to the guidelines and you'll get an A. Oh yeah and No Talking.
Dr. Dan was awesome! I'm glad that I had the opportunity to take this class. His lectures were so helpful especially because he was never biased about any of the religions he taught. I learned a lot. I would take this class with him if you get the chance. Easy A if you study and come to class. Trust me you'll want to come to class.
PERFECT CLASS!3 exams:1/Hinduism & Buddhism,1/Chinese trad. and Judaism;1/Christianity and Islam. Each worth 25%.A paper on primary text/ 1 religious tradition-25% of grade.XTRA CRDT if you visit Relg institution/ceremony.Insufficient use of clickers (less than 50% response rate to in-class questions-results in deduction of a letter grade.
pretty good
He seems like the kindest, most passionate man ever about his subject, but the truth is, when you go to talk to him about your grades or to receive help, he will tear you to shreds and make you feel like an idiot for even bothering with him. Rough grading, horrible face-to-face attitude. Don't take his class.
This professor is very helpful, and entertaining. He finds ways to keep attention throughout the entire class, while seeming to really care about the subject.
Absolutely amazing professor. Have taken multiple classes with him and they are always interesting, informative, and engaging. Would gladly have taken more from him if I could have.
Awesome teacher!! I suggest this teacher if your taking Religion 101!! Not hard at all just study your notes and you will do fine!!!
He is an alright teacher. Not very nice if you try to talk to him. Study guides are useless. Must attend class to pass. TAs are the least helpful and very rude.
The best kind of teacher is the kind that cares about what they are teaching. This teacher is extremely interested in religion and sharing his knowledge. He is a bit intimidating in person, but he is for the right reasons. He won't take your excuses and crap.
Wolne is one of the best teachers I've had. You can tell he loves what he teaches so he makes it interesting. This isn't a class for people who want to slack off, you actually have to study for the tests, but if you do you will do just fine.
If you have to tolerate this professor, at least get his lecture notes on notehall. He is a great lecturer, but full of himself. His TA's are rude and unhelpful. 1 paper 25%, 3 Exams (multiple choice), clicker use (if under 50% u get a grade point deducted) 1 extra credit (go early on!)Exams are difficult so study hard (go & get the notes Notehall)
It is very visible that Prof. Wolne cares about what he teaches, but he is so full of himself. The TA's are rude. Not very helpful. The lectures are boring but if you miss anything your doomed. The tests are hard, so DONT slack off! this is not an easy class like some people say it is
The teacher seems very nice. His lectures are interesting and he seems to love what he does. Test are easy... BUT you do have one essay to do. The TAs grade it...HARD.They are very rude, very unhelpful. I really would not recommend this class just because of his TAs. They really ruin your grade. I got a D- on a paper worth 25% of grade :/
I originally signed up for this class because I needed the credit hours, but after having him this semester, I have found that he is a brilliant professor and I learned a lot. Great class, lectures are semi-long/drag on, but it was truly a great class. 3 tests, 1 paper & extra credit available.
107 was not a hard class. However, it was an incredibly boring class. After we finished the Eastern religions i fell asleep EVERY DAY. His TA's mean business about the quiet class policy. The tests are easy if you read the textbook. Lecture notes and study guides don't prep you for the tests as much as the textbook does. READ TO PASS!
Dr. Dan was awesome, he clearly knew what he was talking about and was very easy to learn from and unbiased. If you pay attention, the tests are pretty easy, and the essay is outlined so it's already almost half-written. Yes the TA's kinda suck but I still recommend it.
Horrible professor. Also a boring class if you are not interested in religion. Ta's also strict. Professor is not helpful at all if you talk with him. Overall, ake reigion with someone else. PERIOD>
THE WORST CLASS EVER. I highly recommend not taking this class. Hiliary Lipka Western Religion teacher is A MILLION TIMES BETTER. Wolne doesnâ??t help one bit! He does not care if the whole class fails. Me and everyone around me got a D- on a very big paper. Its like they wonâ??t give any good grades on the essay you have to do. SO BAD. AVOID
The subject of the class was interesting buthe is a VERY BAD Teacher!! He grades way to hard for his paper for a 100 level class and his TA's and him are very strict and not helpful at all. If you have a question about the topic, he will shut you down and make you feel stupid. I wouldn't refer this class to anyone, unless you really need to take it
His lectures are clear and interesting. His tests are easy and the paper, although it requires thought and time, is not unreasonable. Going to office hours, I found him to be very helpful. I would take more classes from him.
I really enjoyed the class. Ifyou attendend you had the material t get a's on ever test. There was a term paper but there are plenty of help sessions for it ( I went and was basically given what to say) and got an a. Tons of extra credit chances. Easiest humanities credits ever.
Attendance REQUIRED. Must also read the book and constantly study. Very good teacher, but student effort is mandatory.
Wolne is okay, not the best teacher, definitely not the worst.
Very good course and easy. Notes tell you all you need to know. I didn't own the book and still got A's on the paper and every test. All you have to do is pay attention and go to class. He's very reasonable and fair. Tells stories offers extra credit. Only problem i had was with WebCT study sessions offered before tests.
Pretty cool guy, really knows his stuff. I highly reccomend the extra credit events that he offers, even if you can't get any more extra credit!
His writing assignment is awful. There is absolutely no respect for academic integrity in the assignment or grading rubric.
Easily the best mass lecturers I've had in Woodward, and I've had 3 prior. If you know how to write analytically, you'll have no problem getting an A on the paper. He is definitely enthusiastic about the class, and I had a lot of fun in the class. Interested me in a topic I really had no interest in prior. A good guy and interesting class.
I absolutely LOVED his class. yes, I was interested in religions before hand, but Daniel is a very good professor. His writing assignment was good, I got a B and i did it all the morning of. His classes are very quiet , which is rare for a class in Woodward. He is not at all biased in any way what so ever. I would definitely recommend him!!
This was my favorite class of the semester! Dan is a really nice guy. He explains everything very clearly and is an extremely good public speaker. Everything you need to know for his tests is in the notes and his lectures. I strongly recommend his class!
This class is overall easy. Tests are usually 50 questions, and cover mostly information from lectures; Wolne even lets you know what to specifically study for the tests, as well as offer review sheets. The only difficult aspect of the class is the paper...very harsh grading. Most of my class got a C on the paper
I took Atheism: Trends and Critiques with Professor Wolne, and it was amazing. Anyone who can take a class with him MUST.
Great professor who clearly cares a lot about his work. There are only 3 tests and 1 paper, which are all easy if you pay attention in class. The paper is very basic - just follow the rubric. People who complain about the TAs are obviously the obnoxious kids in class who get yelled at for talking too much.
Definitely too difficult to be a 100 class, compared to my other 300 level courses I was disappointed to receive a C. I went to every lecture and studied the notes but my test grades were just not adding up... The paper was very easy I received an A. He's too narrative and needs to focus more on the terms rather than story telling.
Took class to boost my GPA after taking the same class in HS and getting an A easily. Found the lectures very boring and he went off on pointless tangents. Got low B's on first two tests without missing a single class, didn't attend a single class after october and got A's on the paper and final. Not quite the easy A that it should be
Such an easy class. Dont have to attend all classes. He puts up reviews online to prepare for the test. Interesting material and he explains it very well. Great teacher over all
I've taken several classes with Dan. He makes the class interesting and his teaching style is clear. I really enjoy the subject matter of his classes and the tests aren't too hard. He is laid back and easy to approach.
The lectures are awesome! He is very engaging and informative. His slides are very clear. Attendance is not taken but you want to make it to every class since he doesn't put slides online and his tests are totally lecture oriented. His teaching is very clear - the exams can trip you up though. Also, beware the door Nazis.
Dr. Wolne is a passionate teacher. I have taken both REL 107 and 263 from him. Class isnt mandatory, and if you need the notes from a day you missed, the class always helps out. Make sure you go to every review day for the test because he will give info on the essay questions. He is sweet and approachable and knows his stuff. He is my favorite stil
GREAT lecturer and very knowledgeable about the subject. One paper and three tests - the tests are much harder than you would expect. Attendance not mandatory but you do get extra credit for answering the majority of his clicker questions.
Very easy class. Your grade is made of 3 tests and a writing assignment. The tests are not difficult if you go to the review days. There are also many opportunities for out of class events as well as clicker questions which are accounted for in your grade.
He is an amazing lecturer. I only had him for the first part of the semester due to him leaving because of an illness in his family. The time he was there he was very passionate and made learning easy. The class is 3 tests and 1 paper, all of which are relatively easy. Don't be afraid to ask questions he is really helpful.
Fantastic teacher. Does a wonderful job explaining different religions and remains impartial to any of them. I appreciate that I didn't know what religion he was when he taught about others. His TA's are helpful and you will need them for the paper. Attendance isn't required but the notes help A LOT. Loved the class.
A great professor. Very knowledgable about the subject, and teaches in a subjective and interesting way. Tests are straightforward if you simply keep up. One of the best classes I've had in my college career!
Dan is a good professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but it can be helpful. The class is 3 tests and one paper. I read the book, and almost only went to class for the tests and to hand in the paper, worked hard on the paper, and got an A- for the class. Take his class if you need an easy credit and have some interest in religion.
Dr. Wolne's lecture are very interesting an engaging. The tests are based off of his lectures, and pretty straight forward. The one writing assignment, however, was impossible. The expectations were not clear, and all of the components were worth WAY too much. My paper dropped a letter grade because I didn't have a peer edit. Make sure to do that!!
This man is a complete angel. He loves his job so much and that in itself inspires me to listen to what he has to say. Attendance is not mandatory, however, he made me want to go to class. I LOVE HIM. I highly recommend taking this class with Dan!
The prof is a good lecturer. I recommend skimming the book before his lectures in order to always remain ahead. His lectures follow the readings which is a rare thing.
Dan is an AMAZING lecturer! I thoroughly enjoyed every single one. I have only missed one class and the class I missed, I wish I would have gone! He makes religion into an enjoyable matter to discuss. The way he lectures makes the material exciting. I always wanted to pay attention. You can tell that he loves what he does. Awesome, awesome teacher!
Took him for Living World Religions. Very knowledgable and engaging. Love his lectures, and really knows how to grab students attention with interesting facts and stories of religion. Recommended.
Great class. I would take it again. You have one big paper and tests, and no other assignments. Amazing lectures and a cool class.
This class was awesome. Super interesting material, Wolne is incredibly knowledgeable on everything involving religions, and taking this class changes your view on religion completely. We only had one paper which wasn't too hard, and tests on each religion we talk about which are a piece of cake.
This teacher was fantastic! I would take his class again if I could.
Dane Wolne is truly an angel, He is an awesome professor and the best speaker I have ever listened to, His lectures are so interesting that you just want to go the class and listen to him and the time pass by so fast, I loved going to his class and listening to him, He is AWESOME!!!! It's a class you would not regret taking. May God bless him.
The entire grade is 6 online tests and 1 paper. The paper was pretty time consuming, but I don't feel like it was a lot to ask for considering that the tests were super easy. He also offered enough extra credit that my grade would have been an A +++ if possible. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but I found his lectures interesting enough to want to go.
The class was easy. The lectures were informative and interesting. There were 6 multiple choice tests and they are all online. There is only 1 major writing assignment. Just by doing the writing assignment you will get a good grade on it. Clickers are optional, but will count as extra credit. Take this class. You will not regret it.
Amazing teacher, has taught me so much in a matter of weeks. You MUST go to class, or you won't learn anything, no textbook for this class. Makes every religion relevant and stays un-biased, respectful and hilarious in his teaching. Easy quizzes, online and 25 questions multiple choice, easy A if you go to lectures. Easily my favorite teacher.
Awesome lecturer! You can tell he really enjoys teaching. All exams are online and not too bad if you take good notes.
Dr. Wolne's religion class was by far the best class I have ever taken at UNM.
I really enjoyed taking Dr. Wolne's class. It is all lectures, online exams, one paper and no homework or textbook use. I thought it was a very interesting course and an interesting subject. I would recommend his class if you need to take Religion 107.
Professor Wolne is great! His lectures were pretty interesting. There course load is not hard at all just 6 online exams and a research paper. He also gives extra credit opportunities. He is also very clear on what he expects. I would take this class again.
Great professor! He is clear, organized, and precise in his lectures, and he is also clear about what he wants from his students. Lectures are super interesting and I was actually looking forward to class in a way I have never done before.
An amazing teacher! His lectures are so interesting and all the answers to his tests are on quizlet! Definitely recommend his class.
I love the "quiet classroom policy" and Dr. Wolne. He's an awesome lecturer! (The content covered in this class is also really interesting) Highly recommend!!
Dr Dan is great, I loved his 107 Religion class. He makes learning about religion fun and easy. This class is just a show up and get an easy A.
Super easy class. Only one paper is due the entire semester and all his tests are online. Interesting lectures but they can be a bit lengthy. Good class to just sit back and learn
Such an easy class. I hardly went and received an A
This professor is topnotch quality. Wolne knows his stuff and the lectures are very interesting. He is very organized and is clear on what he wants from his students. Be ready for a lot of reading and interesting discussions, a midterm, and a final exam. Highly recommend!
I never quite saw myself taking a religious studies class, but when I took 107 with Dan, I loved it. One of the best lecturers I've had, online tests aren't difficult, one paper, and lots of extra credit opportunities. Attendance not mandatory, but showing up and diligently listening is worth while. This class made me more culturally sensitive.
My friend recommended this class to me and I don't regret it. I didn't think I would be interested in religion, but his lecture aren't boring. He offers lots of extra credit, and the online test aren't too bad.
GREAT professor. Nuff said.
Professor Wolne is great. Extremely informational lectures that make you think differently about the world! He is not biased at all so you get a real view of each religion all around. Great class, great professor!
I love Dr. Wolne. He is my absolute favorite professor. His atheism theories class was fascinating and I learned a great deal in a short time. He creates a very safe and respectful environment. I took this class with people from all different backgrounds and beliefs and we all worked together very well. He is a master and is always objective.
He makes his lectures interesting to listen to so you don't get bored
He is so well informed. He has really interesting lectures. Took over intercession. Awesome professor. Easiest class ever! :) Would take him again, he is so awesome. + Movies.
He introduced collaborative learning exercises for the first time, in a class of 400, not the best thing plus GA's graded them harshly. overall not a bad class, 3 online exams, 1 three page paper, and 10 collaborative learning exercises (you get assigned a group of 4 and about once every 1 or 2 weeks you answer questions he asks) extra credit!
He doesn't care about students grades. He told the class that if we had any concerns about our grade that we could go talk to him in the Fall (i had him in the spring).
Dr. Wolne is very passionate about Religious Studies and his passion is very prevalent during lecture. However, having a 400+ person lecture divide up into groups of 4 for "Collaborative Learing Exercises" was chaotic and unorganized and these exercises were graded harshly. I would recommend this class but the group work is dysfunctional.
Tests are a breeze. Collaborative learning exercises are graded very harshly. Be aware that he sprinkles in his liberal beliefs for no apparent reason whatsoever and states them like they are facts.
Wolne is very passionate and thorough when he lectures. He doesn't make class boring. He may nag a bit though if you don't participate so prepare to be cooperative. He's a tough grader with essays and expects a lot of details in them. Overall, he's a good professor if you're willing to be a good student.
Amazing teacher super nice.
Super easy class. Hardly ever went, but when I did his lectures were interesting. One paper to write, although that was pretty easy too.
Knows his subject and loves to teach it. Gives as unbiased a view as you can find.
Can't say enough good things about this class. It's super easy in every way. Grade is based on 3 easy exams and a paper. Attendance is not mandatory, though lectures are great if you want to attend but he's super strict on cell phones. If you want EC, he only announces that in class so you need to go if for some reason, you're not doing great.
He is a cool teacher! However do NOT take a 2 and 1/2 hour lecture...I used to get super bored. Also NEVER use your cell phone because the TA will come over to you in front of everyone. Tests super easy to pass, one paper which is graded fairly and extra credit opportunities which are also pretty cool. Take good notes!
Professor Wolne is incredibly knowledgeable. His lectures are clear and engaging, and he uses a good amount of humor. Would highly recommend!
This was by far my favorite class this semester. Professor Wolne cares greatly about this class and put it a great effort to make sure the material he lectures on is correct. If your debating on taking this class I would defiently take it. I don't personality have a religion, however, I felt he was far to every religion he discussed in this class.
The class is based on 3 tests and a paper. The tests and paper was really easy. If you take all the notes, you will do just fine. He really knew the content and gave amazing lectures.
He's pretty chill, but he refuses to acknowledge when his (or his TA's) grading is flawed. One of the TA's managed to rip my citation page from my paper and couldn't find it and it dropped it to a D and he wouldn't hear any appeal despite proof that I did have citations. Don't trust the TAs. DO NOT use your phone. You'll be kicked from class.
This class is very lecture heavy and if you don't go, you will have a hard time with the paper which is a large part of your grade. The tests are almost identical to the lectures, so make sure you take good notes because you can use them on the tests. Dan made lectures entertaining and there was often extra credit during the lectures.
This was by far my favorite class last semester. This teacher is so passionate about what he does. I learned so many things in his class, it was awesome. The only thing not to do during class is to use your phone because the TAs will literally come up to you and ask you (super loudly) why you have your phone out, so just keep that in mind.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Grades on 3 open book exams and 1 essay, each 25% of your grade. His lectures are captivating and informative, with a touch of humor. He also offers extra credit in the form of visiting religious centers and clicker questions. He likes to consider all points of view. No computers/phones allowed.
Awesome professor! Delivers his lectures in a creative way, you will never get bored. Every class is a lecture, and it is important to take good notes, tests and a paper will be based upon them, so take them! Awesome public speaker, never reads off his slides, always makes eye contact with many students. Definitely one of the best professors!
Dr. Dan Wolne is a great teacher. He really cares about you getting a good grade and does not grade too harshly. I got a 100% on the first paper that we did and I thought I was going to do really bad. He does not respond very quickly to emails or messages on learn but when he does he makes sure that you fully understand what you were asking about.
This class isnt too bad. Professor Wolne isnt a brash grader at all and all of the exams are online. I didnt even touch the book and I Id fine. The one thing Id watch out about is the paper. The TAs are very harsh graders, many students ended up complaining about the grades they received but other than that easy A
The class at first seemed hard, but let's just say quizlet has your back. He is an easy grader so show effort and you'll get an A.
Overall great teacher and great class I took his class and my friend took his online class, with that being said if you're going to take this class do not take it online. A lot more work online every week and he's a tough grader to online students.
Super easy class, but make sure to do extra credit because grading on the paper is completely random.
This class was not what I expected. I took it only to fill the mandatory credit for humanities but i ended up really enjoying the course. The term paper is a research one so dont wait until the last minute. Also write everything thats on the board and youll have a hard time not getting As on the tests. No cumulative final which is dope.
the class itself was really easy, you dont even need to show up. the lecturer was pretty boring, and he has the ta's staring down the whole room and checking for phone use, which was pretty obnoxious and infantilizing.
Ridiculously easy class as long as you copy everything that is on his slides.3 exams of 50 points each and a research paper of 50 points. Grading of research paper is somewhat unpredictable. Overall an easy class to get an A. Might get irritated by the GAs who consistently check for mobile phone use in the class.
Prof. Wolne is a pretty cool guy and he definitely knows what he's talking about, his lectures are really interesting and he doesn't just read off the powerpoint. We only had 4 exams and 1 paper, the exam questions are pretty specific but with a little work, you can find the answers. Paper was graded by his TA's- they are not so great.
Dr. Wolne has passionate lectures that go beyond just reading off slides. Class is 3 MC exams online, 10-12 MC quizzes in class, and a term paper that has more requirements and picky instructions than I feel an English class does. TAs grade them, not him. He puts too much trust in them. Extra credit opportunities you should do! Decent professor.
If you need a lower level humanities credit, take Wolnes class!! Super funny, great lectures, very minimal effort to pass. Only thing is that you have a research paper and those are graded by the GAs so the grading can fluctuate. But overall the class was absolutely amazing
I hold much respect for Dr. Wolne. He always seemed passionate and his lectures were always engaging, hes very knowledgeable about what he teaches. What really earned my respect for him was at the end of the semester, when he revealed that he hopped to spread peace through diminishing ignorance on the living traditions that youll cover. 10/10
The class was poorly written and showed little effort by the professor. The grades are based on arbitrary rubrics using opinionated qualitative analysis. There was a group project which was given with a 6 word prompt and required convoluted discussion board communicating. The textbook and class lectures were overly wordy and hard to read.
I could not recommend Dr Dan enough. Fantastically passionate intellectual with a real talent for lectures. Get the text book if you want but you can get by with an A without it. No homework just one paper but it's a walk in the park.
Dr. Wolne is the best professor I had at UNM. I took four classes with him and they were so good I ended up adding a second major in religious studies. Hes extremely knowledgeable and I loved his lectures. Lots of short papers to write and weekly readings. I loved it all and wish I couldve taken more classes with him!
Accidentally missed a quiz and emailed him about it. Probably one of the lost disrespectful professors I have ever had. Didnt have a single care for my situation. His class is set up like even he doesnt care about it. This is a 100 level course but should still show some effort towards his work. I 100% would never recommend this disrespectful man
Best. professor. ever. Dr. Dan breaks down complex topics into easy-to-understand lessons. He is personable, chill, and so caring. Attend class and you will easily pass the class. He requires a paper a week, but they are pretty easy to write if you use your notes from class. He seriously is the best professor. 10/10 recommend.
Mr. Wolone was one of my worst professors he didn't put much effort in the class and did not have any sympathy for outside issues. He rarely communicated with us during the semester and expected us to be on our own pretty much. He was not understanding at all when you missed an assignment on accident
His TA's grade everything and are tough graders. They are tough for no reason and I had a hard time because he expects the book to teach you and will provide small lecture videos that don't help.
TERRIBLE! Unless you're majorly obsessed with religion it's gonna be a bad time. Extremely harsh grader and assigns an unrealistic amount of papers/reading. We probably wrote 100+ / read 600+ pgs? This ain't a PhD dude! Was the class I devoted all my time to & barely passed. He got mad that I submitted papers an hour before the deadline*eyerolls*
Amazing Lectures! I recommend this class to everyone. Such good communication skills.
Dr. Wolne is awesome. Lectures are funny and witty. The class is four exams, one paper; no homework. The exams are open note and easy if you attend lecture. He offers enough extra credit to raise your paper grade by a letter grade and you can bring it by his office for feedback. He was very kind and understanding when I had a death in the family.
Do not take Professor Wolne, he is a very hard grader and bad at communicating. I did not appreciate how he talked to me and his group project was very unclear. Do not take him.
Hes alright, his lectures are pretty nice. Wish he posted his slides.
Professor Wolne is a lecture-heavy professor so if you miss a class you will be missing lecture notes and they will not be posted online. There are only 4 quizzes and 1 paper but there is an opportunity for extra credit if needed or would like to explore different religions outside of a lecture. He isn't a hard class unless you don't go to class
Wolne knows so much about the subject that I found his lectures to be confusing. I wasn't sure what would be on the test, so I just printed out the study guides and filled them out as he lectured. He doesn't post anything online (lecture slides, grades, EC opportunities) and I found that frustrating. Other than that, it was a super easy class.
I took an online class with him and asked for help multiple times and he often responded with "it is to your discretion" or other similar that things that did not help. The class has A LOT of hard content. I worked significantly harder in this class and ended with an 89.70 which he refused to round up to an A and rounded me DOWN to a B.
You only have a couple papers in this class, otherwise no other assignments apart from easy online quizzes. Super interesting lectures if you find history interesting. Wolne is a UNM treasure.
Professor Wolne's lectures are engaging and informative, though the grading can be picky. Use resources like unstuckstudy AI along with the textbook to excel in this class. Attendance is a must, and the exams are manageable with proper preparation.
The best, the lectures where fun and informative
