Strictly sticks to the book, not very good at english. She's a very nice lady, but half of her lectures dont even corespond to the tests, actually the whole FAU math department is ****ed, take your math at pbcc.
She is from Bulgaria and has a little problem pronouncing words in the English language, but our class was hilarious, making it much more enjoyable to everyone. When we ask her for help she does the best she can, but it is hard to understand her at times. She did allow a makeup test grade, taking the best score.Easy class- do the HW for practice!
Shes a very nice lady, has a unique method of teaching to prove every formula before it is given to the class. She is very helpful with the tests and takes class input seriously and adapts her tests to help out the class. As long as you attend the class and attempt the homework ones fine.
Very difficult to understand. Makes things more complicated than they are. (Students leave the class more confused than when they get there.) Arrives at least 5 minutes late every class. Two weeks into the course and no lab has been given.
I find Prof.Popova to be understandable and examples given to be pertinent to the course of study. I am currently a high school teacher and I can understand the difficulty in disseminating information of a complex level. Prof. Popova illustrates competency in her teaching, her sincerity in helping students and availability during office hours.
Popova is an excellent teacher. Before taking her class I lacked confidence in my math skills, but she helped me to understand lessons in math that I could never grasp in previous years. She is always in class and explains everything clearly. Her grading is very fair and she is not out to fail anyone. I recommend you take her Pre. Alg class! :-)
very sweet teacher
She is a nice woman, however her teaching style is not great, also a heavy accent. Quizes are very difficult (class average -28%)but the exams are easier and if you do extra credit it gets added. Must learn on your own for the most part. I felt I didn't learn enough. FYI There is a big curve at the end for grades!! I would not take her again.
Good teacher. Explains well. Is interested if the class understands. She is very helpful if you need extra time to grasp the material. Her personality is very pleasant as well.
She is a great proffessor and cares about wheather or not the students learn although I was not accoustome to her teaching (which involved students demonstrating problems) style I believe that in the end it helped prepare you more. I would take her again but the class does require effort.
i've taken calc 2 a few times before i took her so i have others to compare her to. she taught the class in a way that i could understand the material. also she cares if the students learn. best professor i ever had for a calc class
she has the thickest accent , cant understand her and she teaches you the easiest things and all the test questions arent even in the book
If you want to stay a wake in class, you will. She's VERY hyper and often forgets where she puts her chalk. I give low ratings for teaching. Goes too fast with lectures. Left to Bulgaria at end of semester without giving grades to a dozen or more students! 3 weeks after semester, I finally received grade!! Don't recommend if you want to LEARN
She did not do a good job of explaining concepts. It seems that she would confuse herself at times, but it was a pretty easy class. She curved a lot
Dont take her class, i used to be good in math now i have a D
She was an ok teacher. since i was pretty good in math, she loved me. if you took algebra 2 in highschool, this class should be really easy. if you didnt...STAY AWAY... from algebra in FAU. (worst passing grade in the country)
Popova is great. - take advantage of her office hrs. -study review packets to the "T". - attend multicultural tutoring sessions(mainly for test three). - Book isn't really necessary.. I haven't used it. Please realize that the tests are made by Phillip Pina for all College Algebra classes! Ask questions Popova cares, trust me! Take her.
Ms.Popova is a very energetic and passionate teacher. She has helped me to love mathematics and more importantly, given me the ability to extrapolate what I've learned and apply to everyday problems. Whenever I needed extra help, she was there to assist me after class, during office hours, or at a scheduled time. She is a great professor.
Dr. Popova is such a nice, funny woman, I definately was not bored in her class since she is so passionate about math...by the way she is right: working some of those problems are fun games ; )
I really enjoyed Dr. Popovas class . She helped to break down the material in a way that was not intimidating. Not to mention she is genuinely concerned with how her students are doing. I hope to take her for another calculus course.
I thought she was pretty nice at first but then i spoke to her in person about missing a test an she totally blew up at me saying, actually yelling, there was no way i cud make it up. I would not recommend her because i think she teaches the harder methods. I pass the tests with what i have learned previously i high school.
Im taking Calculas with her now. She teaches very well and it is easy to understand concepts, but, the tests are tuff. She is always willing to provide extra help and really cares how her students are doing in her class. She's awesome :D.
Wonderful teacher, crystal clear explanations. Makes Calc seem easy. I was scared of Calc because of all the rumors of how hard it was and how crazy it was, but she makes it seem no harder then algebra. I would defiantly recommend her as a Professor.
Dr. Popova is the BOMB!!! I had her in spring of '08 for Calculus 1. She is extremely helpful, always willing to give you her time. She also helped greatly by showing the class proofs; this really helped me conceptualize the material. I would strongly suggest taking any required classes with Dr. Popova. She is the best professor I've had...

i took this class as an elective for my major and she was hard too understand, and it's NOT just the accent. her style of teaching made no sense and she gets very annoyed when people ask her questions. she doesn't know how to foil, nor explain the steps to solve a problem. =(
Taken Fall 2008. The course was somewhat easy, the online portion (homework) was very easy. She is a good teacher, and knows what she's teaching, some lessons may be hard for her to explain, I understood what was being taught, you should only take this class if you have already taken Algebra II. High school course equivelent = Analysis of Functions
Personally, I found Dr. Popova to be a good College Alg. professor. She does a god job at giving examples and clarifying the concepts. She has a thick Bulgarian accent but after a while you get used to it. Compared to what I've heard about the rest of the College Alg. teachers at FAU... I would suggest you take Popova.
Easiest class ever. If you put in alot of work you'll do fine. If you put in a little you'll FAIL.
Popova is awesome!!!! Lots of people say Calc is very hard, but she makes it simple as Algebra! Her tests are from the notes and her quizzes are easy! She usually skips over pointless topics (optimization, linerization) and tells you exactly what she expects (the easy stuff). Gives make-ups and EC for struggling students! Definetly take her!!!!
It was kind of hard for Ms. Popova to explain some concepts. You could see she knew what to she was talking about- but when trying to explain it in simplier terms to her students it was hard. The HW given was easy - all online-but there wasnt a txt book used to help you reinforce the lessons...take her only if you have an decent background in math!
She was absolutely impossible to understand. although you can tell she knows her material, she doesn't do a good job at teaching it... at least not to students who speak English. She has a very thick Vulgarian accent and doesn't answer questions in a way students can understand. I passed the class, but it was on my own merit and with help from SI.
u need 2 go 2 class evryday unless u kno some1 that is good @ explaining math or a great TA. HW is mandatory! u will not pass if u dont do it! GO 2 her office hours,SI and math tutoring, its free. her notes are clearer than her speaking but dont let her accent get 2 u. & no matter what u hear passin is possible just takes lots of hard work!!!
Do not take this professor if you want to learn. basically, you have to already know the material to get a good grade. if you work hard and show up you will not get a grade reflecting that, simply one reflecting how well you can perform on a few tests. can't understand accent!
if you actually want to learn, take another professor. this class is fine if you already know everything, but she teaches to the top of the class and will not explain things. also, she doesn't understand your questions and wont help you. she goes over so many complicated proofs that by the end of class she is confused and you don't learn.
This is a class that guarantees the grade you deserve by the effort you put in. She is an excellent teacher to have for calculus and will offer extra credit by having you present a project that represents the mastery of derivatives. She cares about her students and will go out of her way to help them.
every professor has a duty to make you earn your grade, in this class you receive the grade you work for. popova is a fair and very very helpful professor. she teaches because she loves her subject and she asks that you come to class and do a presentation so you understand and appreciate it too. if she teaches you calcI you will do better in calcII
Definitely take her for calculus one because when you get to calculus two, you will know sooo much more than everyone else. she may seem harder, but shes not because shes so helpful and straightforward. if she wants you to do a project, do it, it will help later and so will attendance even though its not mandatory! she just wants u 2 learn!
Popova teaches theorems and examples are given after. You just have to study the material. I had an amazing experience with Popova, and we had one of the best classes ever. I recommend her as she was as she was a great professor. Make your self vocal, and volunteer to do the problems, they help a lot! She is available for office hours for help also
She Lectures pretty well but thats about it. She says things in class then goes back on her word. There is never enough time for exams. She is the most unhelpful person in the world. Avoid her if at all possible.
Dr. Popova is confused by students questions, or confrontational. Her style of teaching is excessive, and at times is too complex. Quizzes and Exams are intensely difficult; moreso than required in a basic class. Her grading scale is lenient, and she gives points for class participation. These extra points are clearly offset by difficult exams.
This is one of the best Profestor I have had at FAU. Dr. Popova is exceptionally knowledgable and presents the subject with enthousiasm and insight. The material was a bit difficult, but very usefull. This class should be pre req B4 other advanced math classes.
I found her very willing to help.
Lectures are hard to understand and are read off and not taught. She likes to take very simple tasks and make them seem very difficult. Tests are difficult and only have a few questions on them. She never seems to understand students questions and tends to go around the question or not answer it at all.
Daniela Popova is extremely knowledgable. This makes the class very interesting! She doesn't just go page by page from the textbook, she implements some light research and short presentations which breaks up the class. You learn alot about the history of mathematics, who discovered what, when and where, this is very interesting. It makes your m
She is a very nice professor. She's very laid back. I got an A in this class with very little effort. Test material comes directly from the study given before the exam....if you master the study guide, you'll master the exam. I got no less than a B in each exam by studying the guide. She is very helpful. I would definetly take her!!!!!
Very nice proffessor I hated math but she made me enjoy it just pay attention to the example she gives and she is also very helpful if u go to her office hours as long as u do that and go to the si session you'll be fine i would defeniately recommend taking her
STAY AWAY FROM HER..SHE MAKES YOU DO A RESEARCH PROJECT AND THEN YOU HAVE TO PRESENT IT IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE FACULTY, TAKE THIS CLASS AT PBCC!
She is really sweet and really wants you to learn. The tests are pretty easy, just do the homework, attend class and do the practice examples on MyMathLab. Popova is fun and the class isnt that hard. I would recommend her if you want a good grade.
Difficult to learn from.
Professor is a very good teacher. She is very understanding and has a passion for teaching math. She is never absent and always there for her students. I will proudly recommend Prof. Popova to any student at FAU.
DONT TAKE THIS LADY. First of all you cant even understand a word shes saying. Second, she is not willing to work with students whatsoever. Doesn't give make up exams or anything! I needed to take an exam early in order to finish my credits to transfer, she wouldnt let me take it 1 class early and now im screwed. one of the worst professors at fau
She is very hard to understand and not very caring about students grades.
BEST MATH TEACHER I EVER HAD. ONLY FOUR TESTS. ALL MULTIPLE CHOICE. THE ICLICKER IS AN EVERYDAY THING SO YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP. THE HOMEWORK IS A GUARANTEED 100% BECAUSE SHE OPENS IT BACK UP AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER SO YOU CAN RETAKE EVERYTHING. I LIKED HER SO MUCH I TOOK HER TWICE.
Great teacher. She explains things well and is very leniant when you need extra time on homework assignments. The tests are pretty straightforward and she goes pretty much by the book so no suprises there. I am taking her for calc 2 as well.
All together she was a average teacher. She has a very thick accent which makes it hard to concentrate and understand what she is saying. She has a way of making very simple ideas seem really hard when they really not. The online homework helped me pass the class better than she did. I would not recomend her if you do cant understand accents well.
Dr. Popova is a wonderful math instructor, I had no problem learning in her classroom. Her notes cover the exam material and no textbook is required for this college algebra class. Buy the my math lab hw and it reinforces your skills learned in class. I honestly spent only 1-2 hours studying at most for an exam, and had no problem getting 110%.
Wonderful Teacher! She is so sweet and wants everyone to do great. She is always avaliable for her office hours and is willing to stop her lecture to help someone if they dont understand.
She was a tough Professor. Very old school style of teaching - very unaccommodating for most of the semester. I did alright though I got a C+. Just do the HW and pass all 4 of her exams and you're good to go. Iclicker attendance is taken every class
Worst teacher I have had thus far. She expects way to much out of her NON MATH MAJOR students.. she didnt let us use a calculator on a test, which you obviously needed a calculator for. VERY RUDE and will kick you out of class if you can not answer a question correctly. Unprofessional. Can not understand anything she is saying. All around terrible.
Best teacher ever!!!!!!!!!! I wish she taught calc three and egn math 1.
DONT RENT THE BOOOK ! its on my mathlab. you cant understand a thing she says and will kick you out of class if you cant answer a question. test are only 15 question so if you miss a few you are screwed. She make things WAY MORE COMPLICATED then they have to be
I think Ms Popova is an excellent teacher. She is extremely helpful and nice. VERY supportive of her students who want to learn! It is very simple to pass her class, show up, participate, pay attention, bring your iclickr, pass her 4 exams, and be RESPECTFUL! Her exams cover all the material you will learn. She is a GREAT teacher!
AWFUL teacher. She expects respect from her students but is so unbelievably disrespectful. Attendance is mandatory but you won't be told until the last day of class and a few people she favors will get extra credit.
Lovely personality, but a horrible professor for any non-math major student. Makes simple concepts VERY confusing and difficult to understand. Homework does not accurately reflect test material. Old school style of teaching, nothing is negotiable, will not re-open HWs but gives a cumulative final to replace lowest test grade. DO NOT RECOMMEND PROF!
She seems nice enough as a person but is not a very good teacher. She has a talent for making even the simplest concepts incredibly difficult and confusing. She often misunderstands students' questions and goes off on a tangent about something completely unrelated, becoming impatient with the students. You may rely heavily on your SI instructors...
She may not be mean, like comments have said, but she does have a tendency to not listen to students questions or comments. I think everyone would benefit more if the students were a little nicer and a little more respectful, and if she cut them a little slack.
Professor Popova is not as mean as all the comments claim, she just expects respect from her students. However, when she is annoyed with the entire class, she has a tendency to be disrespectful to the students asking questions. If the class would be a bit more respectful, though, I'm sure she would be as well.
This lady doesn't even deserve to be called a professor. She's rude, inconsiderate and doesn't care about her students whatsoever. She screams at her class about writing negative comments on here when we all know that she deserves every single one. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! It is ridiculous. I have learned NOTHING from this woman. SI saved me!
I took her for calc 1 and 2 for engineers.I got to her class lacking algebra, I am now going to Calc 3 with a very strong math foundation. She is very nice, but pushes you to learn. Key is to: make use of the book and do the hw. Read the book before class, everything will make sense when she explains, and any questions will be cleared then.AWESOME!
She is a fair professor who actually pushes you to learn. This was a hard class regardless of whether she taught it or not and she was awesome. I actually enjoyed going to class and I learned something by the end of it which is rare at this point. Tests are fair and she doesn't throw any curves your way.
Awesome Professor who pushes you to learn and doesn't just spoon feed you everything. Her tests are extremely fair and if you go to her office hours once in a while and show her you care you will definitely pass.
Honestly, she doesn't teach well. She just copies theorems on the board and sometimes solve a few exercises. You may think you have learned something because you memorize theorems and definitions that will be on the tests. If you want to learn something you will need to make some effort and do a lot of research.
She is the rudest teacher i have ever had. I took calculus in high school and know it very well so i didn't have a problem with the material but if struggle in math she will not help you. She told a girl in class that she belonged in precalculus. She is very rude. I would only recommend her if you like teaching yourself.
I have never had a more unpleasant teacher in college. She does not help at all and all she does is copy things on the board. Don't take this class with her if you can help it.
Listen. I took the class thinking the class was going to be easy. I mean I got a B+ in Methods of Calculus. Ha...no. She made it etreamly difficult to understand. It's either her way or the hallway. She shows extreame favoritism and is very rude to many of her students. Take it from me don't take her.
This teacher is the best math teacher at FAU. Anyone here saying she is not, clearly does not have a strong background and math and definitely needs to retake lower level courses. She pushes you to learn and expects you to be ready for that class, in my case Calc I and II for engineers. She goes at the right speed has great examples.
Daniela Popova is a serious contender for the worst professor I have ever had. She runs the class like a 5th grade class in a 3rd world country: she will call on you can make you write your homework solutions on the board and then pick you apart in front of the entire class. I wish she would just get up and teach herself, but no she makes you teach
Loves her subject, organized in her presentation, goes pretty fast. I did some online research to make some of her proofs clear but some were easier than the book's reasoning to understand. No surprises on exam contents. Doing stuff on the board isn't for everyone and it's not my favorite teaching style. Book is available free, online.
This is a difficult course. Professor explains the concepts, you must do all the hw, quizzes and reviews to be successful. Professor Popova is very fair. Her exams were reasonable and if you did the hw you will do well on her exams. I would recommend her and will try and take calc 2 with her.
popova is a genius hands down, shes always willing to help, make sure you do the hw cause everything is waited the same and she assigns hw more than anything else. do the hw you will past. I had her for calc 3 it was difficult but she made it soo easy because of her syllabus.
This teacher is AWFUL! I took her in the spring 2013 and she was using a syllabus from spring 2012! Shows favoritism and is extremely rude.
Very difficult class. The textbook was not helpful either. She's a good professor, but covers a lot of information and some times does not explain concepts well. If you show interest in the class (attendance, ask questions, participate, etc.) she will take notice.
Excellent professor who is genuinely interested in your learning. She likes you to participate in class but you can decline. Her substantial understanding of mathematics can easily be noticed. Definitely should take her for calculus 3, but watch out for the final, was harder than expected.
Love Dr. Popova. She was so helpful and so interested in what she was teaching. She's very approachable. I'm taking her again for MAA 4200. I'm looking forward to another great semester :)
Awesome teacher. Quizzes and test come directly from the homework. As long as you put in the work every week you'll get the A.
At first Dr.Popova seems like shes not the best, but after a few classes she starts to grow on you! Shes a very sweet lady, encourages students to come up to the board, and wants u to succeed. Calc is really hard, and im taking it now in 6 weeks. Def take her if u can. prob the best calc prof in Fau. Goes a little fast, but still really good!
if you attend regularly, and do the homework, put in the time you will do excellent! If you think you can pass calculus without putting in the effort, then may God help you. This professor has many years of experience, and is a little set in her ways, but ask for help and you will be helped. professor understands students struggle with math.
If you dont find college algebra easy, take a different prof. She is a really sweet lady, but she is not the best at teaching. If you take it on ALEKS, the program teaches you better than she does. She is a great person, but not a great prof.
This professor is pretty terrible. All she did was copy theorems straight from the book word for word. Homework was the same. When she went over the homework the answers that she gave us was straight from the back of the book. The tests were straightforward, memorize definitions and copy them. I learned nothing in this class.
At first I went to her lectures and they were really helpful. Then I just did the ALEKS homework and that taught me how to do everything. I received an A in the class. It's not hard if you actually put a bit of effort into learning the material.
Whomever wrote the bad review about her simply did not try in this class. Modern Analysis is one of the hardest mathematics courses one will take at an undergraduate level, so if you do not try you will fail. She is always willing to help students who are willing to try
So basically all she does is read right from the book. Be prepared to teach yourself or go to get help. This is the second class Ive taken her with and its the same. Shes a very tough grader, she thinks we should know how to do the material. If we knew we wouldn't be in the class. If you want to pass, she "suggests" you do a project.
So here's the thing about Popova, at first I thought she was a good teacher however, as the semester progressed I, along with the entire class, saw that she starts to stop caring. She gives out an extra credit that adds 10% to your average but she's not a good teacher. Knowing what I know now I wouldnt have taken her, her mood reflects her grading.
She is a nice lady, but she is honestly not a good professor. She believes her students should understand material on first try and doesn't explain clearly... Had to study the material by myself most of the semester and did well, but her lectures were quite useless for me, quite frankly. If you are not good at Math, take another professor...
This class was not very easy. Dr. Popova somewhat assumes that her students understand the material, and does not like to be questioned. She teaches using textbook terms, when there are more simple explanations that could be used. Her quizzes and tests are challenging, and she often tests on material that was barely touched in class. Hard class.
Popova is a nice lady but she does not know how to teach. If you struggle in math, please take another teacher. She confuses herself and everyone solving problems on the board. SI sessions are a must.
She goes over how to solve problems the easiest way in class, but if you skip, you could always use the online homework to teach the material to yourself. Everything is computer-based, so if you do your homework every week, then you've basically seen every possible quiztest question. Don't waste money on the textbook, you'll probably never use it.
Honesty, if I didn't take calculus previously than I would probably be failing. Textbook is a must because she is NOT a good teacher. I'm teaching myself because she hardly explains anything. Would NEVER take a class from her again.
Im not one to typically judge a teacher negatively, but professor Popova is honestly the worst professor I have had to date. For one she is difficult to understand, not really a problem for me. Heavy bulgarian accent. My biggest problem with her is she is extremly rude to students she decides she does not like and there is no grade help. Test 70%.
Well calculus is a tough class (this is my 2nd time taking it). This professor is not exactly the best when it comes to giving online lectures, seemed like she would be better in a classroom setting. Prepare yourself to do a lot of your own research for answers and oh yea (mathway is your new friend) ;)
Not helpful
Taking MAT1033 in college means no calculators, you have to use mental math for everything. Popova knows how to do math, but can't explain it too well. You have to teach yourself A LOT. The ALEKS homework never matched the exam questions. Make sure your exams only show you problems you know. She's an okay professor, but you have to teach yourself!
I took this online so I'm not too sure how she is in person but the class was fairly easy and straightforward as long as you do lots of practice problems. Her lecture videos were okay but I found myself learning more from actually doing the problems in MyMathLab. The textbook is essential in truly understanding the material.
She comes across as a rude person, but she is not. The way of passing calculus II with her is as follows: Do all the homework and you will be able to pass the quizzes, if you pass the quizzes you will be able to pass the tests and the finals. She also gives you an opportunity for extra credit that can bump up your credit 10%. I passed with 102%
I took this class online. She was not good at responding to emails, she switched due dates on us with only 3 days notice and over 30 questions to be answered, she consistently cancelled online office hours and her videos are not very helpful. I passed by reading the text, watching YouTube videos on the topics and soing a LOT of practice questions.
