This teacher is young hot and single... however she is near impossible to understand talks entirely too fast.
I took this class summer 08 and I thought I might be crazy taking a hist class but with this professor I confess I did beautifully because I got an A. You do have to attend class every day and take notes!! The test were pretty easy if payed attention in class.
SHE TALKS WAY TOO FAST AND YOUR SPENDING THE WHOLE TIM WRITING THAT YOU MISS OTHER KEY POINTS!!! WITHDRAW FROM THE CLASS TO RE TAKE WITH A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR
Others complain that she talks entirely too fast, but those are the ones who also are not paying attention and appear to have just left high school. The class is informative and the pace is steady. Great class overall.
Professor Bruns was a great teacher. She is passionate about what she teaches and she just exudes knowledge! She is very helpful, organized, and fair. The books we read were interesting, and I actually looked forward to her class each week. Take good notes from the lectures. They will help you a lot come time for the midterm and final. Good luck!
This class seems overwhelming at first, but it's not that bad. You write a two page paper every week, and you have two tests. The tests are not hard because you get a study guide. This class was boring, and hard to follow because she talks so fast, but if you do all the work you will be fine.
Excellent class! A little overwhelming at first, but learned quite a bit about U S history. Take notes and read ALL of the material. She is passionate about teaching.
Continuing off my last post: I also find it imperative to mention that she maintained poor discipline for a college class. A group of five immature high school students who sat in the back left would walk in late, play games, talk loudly, and stand up to socialize during class - never once did Danielle speak a word to them.
I was in the summer class of His. 17.2. There were several immature HS students that were late & disrepectful towards Mrs. Bruns as a teacher, but I didn't not see them play games or stand up in class & have their own disccussions. Thats blowing it out of proportion. Overall she was a very informative instructor & takes pride in her teaching.
Talks way too fast and seems to get confused during her lectures. I like history but this class was boring. She seemed very nervous in front of the class and very insecure about herself. Don't reccommend this teacher.
She does talk extremely fast and just wants to get her work done and let class out early. Her lecture's seemed unhelpful for her tests. Though, the study guides will help you a lot for her tests. I wish she would not run though material as quick as she did and explain things more. Don't take her 'cause she's hot, she's not that good of a teacher.
never stops talking i don't know how she breathes
If you do the reading, pay attention in class, and even half way study for the final, its not that difficult. It IS a lot of writing each week, but if you do the reading, and keep up, you'll do fine. She does talk fast, so if you write lots of notes, be prepared to type/write fast.
Danielle is very passionate about history and teaching. She does talk fast, so either bring a recorder, write fast, or try to decipher what is most important! Make sure you do all of the reading! The class is not that hard if you do what is required of you and don't get behind. Expect to do a lot of writing though. On tests at least 5 page essays.
I really enjoyed her class. She talks fast but if you ask her to repeat something or slow down she will. In fact, she announces this the first meeting. You have to read for this class, but as long as you do, you will fly by. It is easy as long as you keep up with reading and lecture.
Fantastic teacher: passionate, engaging, & provides witty anecdotes. Yes she lectures fast but shows powerpoints. Watch a few movies, 3 multiple choice quizzes, read 3 books-cheap $, write 2pg response paper to reading each week, midterm & final-5vocab & essay-allows outline. READ! ATTEND! ASK! NOTES! You will do great & leave feeling inspired.
This was such a great class, learned so much about history (a lot of depressing information). The lectures were cool, with lots of movies. Final Exam is worth 35% of final grade so plenty of time to make up a poor grade. Lots of reading but I enjoyed it. Ms. Bruns was nice, helpful, and funny.
Nice teacher ! Learn a lot in her class!
Ms. Bruns is one of my favorite teachers. She made history so interesting and left me hungry for more. We watched great documentaries or movies the last 30 minutes or so of some of the classes. There was a lot of reading, however, she was flexible with the time frame on getting the assign turned in. The books for this class were cheap $30.
Awesome teacher. She made history so interesting. Easy A if you go to class and do the work. We watched great documentaries or movies the last 30 minutes or so of some of the classes. There was a lot of reading, however, she was flexible with the time frame on getting the assign turned in. The books for this class were cheap $30.
She is very knowledgable about her subject, very in depth lectures, so make sure you take thorough notes. There is a midterm and a final, which requires a heavy amount of studying, but she tells you exactly what you need to know for it. Do the reading and study enough and you should get an A.
Totally enjoyed her class! Brings care, context and meaning into Am. History. I found her lectures essential to passing the essay tests. Allowed outlines for the midterm and final, and offers flexibility in choosing which specifics to write about. She used some videos, but none felt like "filler". Would definitely take another class from her.
Danielle is an AMAZING teacher. I have held off taking history because I don't love the subject because I hate history. She made me love it. I almost wish I needed another history class for my major. Her lectures are clear and well organized. I loved the class and learned a lot. Also the books she requires you to read are great! TAKE HER CLASS!!
Great professor. She really cares about American history, and hitting all the uglier notes that are glossed over. She puts good emphasis on the treatment of people throughout the history of the continent. Will take her again.
Not only is Prof. Bruns beautiful, but she's very smart too. She really knows her stuff! Very friendly and open! Heading for a teaching career, was very open to giving advice! Overall a great teacher who really, truly cares about her subject. A very passionate individual who is a pleasure to listen to. I never want to miss a class.
She was really funny, she made the material very interesting. We read 3 books, they were also interesting. Study guides tell you exactly what you need to know for exams. Just write A LOT on the exams, even the most minute details. No term paper, just 2-page response papers each week. Her class is simple, just do the work and be detailed on exams.
Tells the truth about American history. She's very passionate about what she teaches and the movies we watched were really helpful and great. We read 3 books, all reasonably priced and interesting to read, just a lot of reading. The homework assignments are simple, 2 page reading summary. Very interesting class! She's great! You will learn a lot.
Danielle is very passionate about history and stresses the significance of historical events. Assigns a lot of reading but for the most part can get away with BS-ing the homework two page responses. Entire class period is her lecture, but will stop and ask if there are questions. Pay attention to videos shown. Not many tests.
Danielle exposes the darker icky truths of American history with a focus on race class and gender It's the history class you wish you were taught in grade school Video powerpoints and lectures 3 books take detailed notes written exams The material can be emotional Danielle makes it very intriguing She's a pistol and a wealth of information
If I could I'd give Mrs. Bruns a 10 out of 5 made the class exciting. Left me wanting to learn more about History. She offers extra credit, for students that want it. She cares about her students and is compassionate about the topic. I wish she taught more subjects:)
Best history teacher yet! She doesn't use a textbook but there's reading from novels etc. (she chooses good books!) Lectures are interesting and she will make you laugh & keeps it very entertaining. She genuinely cares about students and wants you to learn, if you put in the effort you will do well in her class!
Danielle Bruns is an amazing teacher. She is very passionate about history. Coming from a person who has never liked history, she makes the lectures very enjoyable. If you read and listen to the lecture you will pass the class with an A.
Great teacher! Take her class! Her class is very interesting and she always made me want to know more. There's 3 books to read I recommend getting them all, as you will need to read them. Her quizzes are easy if you read the books and the exams are easy too and again if you read the books. I would say it's an easy A, just read.
Get ready to read! There are three books total, fairly easy reads except Takaki. Go to class, do the readings, homework, and take up on the extra credit if needed. She is very clear and outspoken.
Her class was great! she makes her lectures fun. I really enjoyed her class! If you read the books you'll do good! she lets you make up some of the work and gives extra credit assignments ! overall fun class. i would take this class again. she's awesome !
Great teacher! she's one of the best teacher I've had so far!
She was really great during lecture and I learned a lot but her exams were graded with an iron fist. She was very picky and she wanted your answers to be very detailed. You also read a lot in this class.
We read three books at a time, and there was a two page summary to be written for ever reading. So homework was not difficult, but it was very time consuming. Watched a lot of interesting videos and had questions to answer... easy points there. She goes through the ppts too fast, so you cant write down essential info, and the ppt arent online.
Hilarious lecturer! I took over the summer as a night class, had three required reading novels that you must read (at least some of) to get a good grade. You summarize what you read each day in a little two page paper (graded for completion not content). She offers tons of EC too. You get a study guide for exams that is basically the exact test.
such a solid teacher. she's really clear about what she wants and the only homework is a 2 page reading summary every week. Her tests are tough because its all writing, no multiple choice, and she grades them really hard, but she tells you that and prepares you for the tests so nothing is a surprise. super funny and her lectures are enjoyable
This is one of the best instructors I have ever taken. I was almost moved to change my major!! She teaches the REAL history that we never learned about. There was lots of reading and review papers (summary) of what was read. I took it in summer and it was a fast pace but the books are interesting and she is a fun instructor! Highly recommend her!!
Youre making a mistake if you dont take her! Loved history, wants you to learn! Assigns reading and a summary every week and is very lenient about late assignments and understanding outside life. One of my all time favorite teachers, youll actually enjoy this history class.
I came into this class knowing very little about history & thinking it was a boring topic. Professor Bruns made learning history fun! You read a few chapters & write a reading response every week. She is lenient on assignment due dates. Very easy to talk to & accessible outside of class. Come to class, pay attention & you'll pass. TAKE HER CLASS!
History on a Saturday morning is not the greatest thing, but Professor Bruns made learning history @9am fun! Reading and writing is intense in her class, but it definitely helps with exams. Come to class, pay attention & you'll pass. I truly recommend Professor Bruns fun classes.
Danielle's lectures are amazing. 9 am on Saturday morning isn't great but I actually looked forward to her class. I have already taken 17.2 with a different professor but I wish i would've taken hers. her grading is no joke, do not think you can skim and get better than a C. trust me. I love history but did a lot of skimming textbooks. She can tell
You do have to submit reading responses every week but that does make you keep up on reading but the books chosen were enjoyable to read and gives you more than just tests for a final grade. She allows make up work. I enjoyed her class overall and would take again.
She is a great professor, she makes the midterms easy to study for and she assigns homework once a week, not hard at all.
Class was easy, homework once a week. Very helpful, informative lectures. Always reviewed before exams and given study guides to help study the material. Straightforward
For her 5 week course, the whole class was a lecture or a test. There was extra credit though, which is going to help
good teacher, but when she lectures, she sometimes gets carried away. In one lecture she was ranting on Israel and Palestine. She said that Christians support Israel because they need it for the rapture, which is very incorrect. So try not to get offended by the things she says and you will be good
The lectures are engaging and informative. If you pay attention and do the required reading, it is an easy A. Lectures consist of movies, presentations, and other resources. Homework is about 100 pages of a book per week with a two-paged summary paper. Quizzes on books. The midterm and final consist of an in class essay and 5 short answers.
I took her summer class and honestly, she was so much fun. I usually dont like when teachers lecture, but she made it fun. There are a few videos but mostly just lecturing and notes. The midterm and final were super easy as long as you studied.
She is super knowledgeable and passionate about history, so she holds your attention and you will learn a lot. I liked the fact that she teaches the dark truths and things people want to sweep under the rug and pretend didn't happen in history. There's a ton of reading and writing and I thought she graded the tests pretty harshly.
If I'm being honest, I only read the textbook material for the first week. After that, I used online resources to get the main reading points. Not a hard grader on assignments and EXTREMELY lax on due dates, but tough grader on midterms and finals. Her lectures are very interesting and she's fun to listen to. I'd highly recommend taking her class.
While the homework is easy, Danielle assigns a lot of reading, videos, and documentary worksheets. Even as an online class, you'll need to commit the same amount of hours you'd normally spend in an in-person class + hours spent reading and completing assignments.
She doesn't use zoom, she makes you watch YouTube videos, answer Q's, read 3 books at a time, watch another movie w/ questions, a quiz and 2 page summary of the books read each week. It's not hard at all, I just hated the busy work. She gives the Q's for the midterm a week early and gives you a week to work on it. She doesn't interact really at all
I honestly would not recommend taking her if you want to pass with an A. she's a tough grader and will not leave comments on how to better your work or grade. she replies to emails to late. I wouldn't retake her class. yeah I passed but didn't learned anything from my history class. She's a tough grader as well so be prepared.
Sooo much busy work. Do not take if you actually want to learn about history. The work itself isn't exactly hard, but the amount is really unnecessary. Also be prepared to take your time on the mid term/final, because she grades really harshly. Just take another class if they're available.
Professor Bruns is the most compassionate instructor I have ever had. I fell on indescribably hard times halfway through the semester and dropped off the map. She helped me get back on my feet and, with her unwavering faith in me, I managed to pass and get my degree. I feel as if I understand America in a whole new light. Take this class!
I took history 21 online. Each week was based on watching hour long videos and completing a writing assignment quizzes on the three book you read all at once. A lot of work for very little points. I would describe bruns as a lazy teacher she didnt teach anything all you learned was through reading a movies. Wasnt helpful or responsive in emails.
Shes a pretty heavy grader when it comes to midterm and final. Shes not a fair grader to say the least, she will nitpick you. Both the final and midterm are each a quarter of your final grade, so if you dont do well on tests avoid her. She is not sympathetic and will not give second chances. Great content in class, but would not take again.
This is a critical race theory class. Tons of busy work that is not hard but will take you hours to get done every week. Doesn't respond to emails/canvas messages. Alot of the history taught in this class is easily proven to not be true. The books were ok but you have to read 3 full books. Questions on quizes are open ended and badly phrased.
I enjoyed and learned a lot. Online was hard for me and I think in person this would be way better. Not many online lectures from her but lots of videos you watch online. She will help and is passionate about teaching. She's clear and direct.
This teacher is the worst I've ever had, my 3 years at the Junior College. I spent a week on the midterm giving detailed information and answering the questions to a T and she said it wasn't enough. She makes you watch hours and hours of videos you could easily find youtube, and the amount of typos in her work is ridiculous. Don't waste your time.
Had a B grade and some how got 25 out of 50 on the final with only a single error marked on the first question. Passed by 1 point and not sure how. Would strongly NOT recommend.
Amazing teacher and mentor, Bruns is kind and caring and truly cares for each and every one of her students. With consistent communication and interactive classes, she not only helped me understand the content of the class but also generated a safe and pleasurable classroom space.
I learned a ton in this class. I finally feel like I learned the real history of the United States. There was a lot of work but it is college. The work wasn't hard and as long you did it, it wasn't hard to do well in the class. She was really nice when I talked to her about how to do well on the exams and was always offering to help.
I wanted to take the class in person because my friend enjoyed her class but it was only offered online when I need it. There were lots of videos which was good because I am more of a visual learner. I learned a lot more than other history courses I took in high school.
Great course! Loved the assigned reading and found the work to be engaging and well guided by Ms. Bruns.
Really enjoyed the material in this class! A lot of homework and reading but overall pretty easy class. But DO THE WORK.
Great and smart professor! Very important content and information, but wayyy too much homework. It felt like a 5 unit class with the amount of homework given every week. Quizzes can be tricky even when you read and do all the work so you really have to pay attention to every piece of information.
One of the hardest classes I've taken, the amount of videos and reading she expects you to do per week is almost ridiculous. There are also weekly quizzes which even if you watch the videos and read they could be very difficult. She's nice just incredibly coursework heavy! Midterm and final are tough as well
Homework heavy and two exams, but you can use all of your resources (homework, videos, classwork) and have a week to finish the exams. Very lenient. Textbook and a few reading books, but you can find youtube videos of the books if you don't want to rent. She was also super funny which made lectures enjoyable.
Danielle is a high school teacher and her class runs like it, very helpful for a first semester student. Lots of reading and I recommend taking lecture notes. She makes herself available to students, has an excellent sense of dark humor, and only gave us 2 tests. Go to office hours testing week and she will steer you very strongly to the answers.
Danielle is a very nice teacher and her lectures typically go over the homework you will do, which she assigns a lot of, so I recommend taking notes during those. Only 2 major assignments which are multiple questions but are open note, so if you ask for her help, she will guide you toward the right solutions.
Good professor, good lectures, and good information. RIDICULOUS amount of homework though... like actually. The amount of weekly assignments will make you forget it's a 3-unit course. However, she is still a knowledgeable and nice person.
anyone who complains about her has probably never taken a real college class before; she's wonderful, passionate about her discipline, and clearly wants all of her students to succeed. people are really complaining here because she has the nerve to give assigned readings as a college professor -- get real. you should definitely take this class!!
This class was a lot. Prepare to not have a life or a job. This was a class I took in the summer which I understand is 2x as much work as a regular class but I never imagined I would be doing about 17 big assignments every week and on top of that spending about 6 hours a week watching the videos she assigns and then answering about 80 questions.
I would recommend taking only this class by itself in the summer (if you have a full-time job). It is heavy on assignments because it's a summer course but other than that, you should be fine. Also, If you love reading, this class is definitely for you. Burns herself is organized online, sweet but straightforward, and understanding. Great Class!
I picked this professor because of the high reviews but this was probably the worst class I've ever taken. I spent 25+ hours a week on this class alone. The reading is insane and the assignments are hard. The teacher had a negative attitude from the get-go, with the disposition that we would be likely to fail.
This class is an intense amount of work that nearly broke me several times. She's nice, the material is great, & I get she is also a HS teacher, but she did not feel present at all, just reading and videos. It felt really difficult to balance time for the extremely tedious assignments for 0 feedback, & because of that it was hard to stay motivated.
I truly learned a lot in this class and enjoyed the material, there is just a lot of work. The material itself isn't hard, but time consuming. I do recommend this class, but do not take it in tandem with other heavy classes. As long as you balance your time management, you'll be okay. I feel like with less material I would have absorbed it better.
For the online class, she posts what is due every Monday and it is due Sunday night. You watch videos, answer questions as you follow along and turn that in. Then you read the chapters for the week, write a summary and take a quiz. It is straightforward and easy to manage if you don't try to do it all at once.
If you read and do the weekly questions, then the exams aren't hard. They are basically a summary of the main points learned each week. The class work takes about 3 hours which is what you would spend in class and the homework reading and summaries took me about 2-3 hours each week. It wasn't hard but it was at least 5 hours of work a week.
Class was mostly videos and reading. Just don't use AI because she won't give you credit.
Midterm and final were a lot of work but it was all the stuff we learned each week. Online classes are a lot of work but it wasn't very hard.
It was mostly reading for “homework” and documentaries instead of videos of her for the modules. I'd rather watch professional videos than professors taking videos of themselves talking.
I am taking this class online and it is embarrassing how lazy this teacher is with her online curriculum. She just assigns her normal homework and gives you a week to do 3 entire modules at a time. I could spend the entire week on reading and watches the videos alone. Teachers like this should not teach summer classes how inhumane and disgusting.
Taking this class for the summer and I was not aware of how much assignments has to be be done per week. Every week you have to finish three modules, 3 quizzes and 2 summaries for two books. I don't know why we're assigned two books for the summer class since I'm already doing 3 modules per week? She also doesn't even grade your assignments on time
Not only are there 2 models a week, each with a 2-page paper, 25-39 questions per module, and a quiz, but she also relies on AI to grade. She accused me of using AI on a 10-point assignment and was dismissive and accusatory. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Unrealistic expectations for community college class. Tests, papers, movies, reading, and 30+ questions due in one week. Her grading is strict and unfair. Focuses heavily on AI. Don't take this class if you care about your mental health.
This was one of the best classes I've ever taken. Her lectures are fantastic. The way she presents the information is captivating! Would take her class again
She is such an unfair grade, and she is not willing to help, she will accuse you of using AI or not reading the right book or chapter which is very weird, two different readings at the same time and over 30 questions to answer and thats w/o the quizzes, I DON'T RECOMMEND HER AT ALL.
Given that this is a 3 unit junior college class, I've had to spend way too much time completing the assignments in this class. If the workload were slightly more manageable I'd have less of a problem since she clearly stated her expectations for assignments and was a fair grader.
This was my first semester at the SRJC and I believe I made a huge mistake taking this professor's class. The workload is horrifically huge and unrealistic. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The heavy workload takes away from actually learning and caring about the subject, it only leads to more stress.
If you value your mental health and sanity, I do not recommend this teacher's courses. She assigns the most insane amount weekly, more than I have ever received for any other class I have taken, and her midterm and final exam essay questions took me over 8 hour each to complete. Absolutely grueling semester, thanks to this course.
