Griffin apperently is soley teaching just to have the opportunity to have control over others and tell people what to do. She takes up much time complaining about what people do wrong and petty problems that she thinks we need to fix. She does nothing to go out of her way to offer any additional help, and she does snap at her students.
A very grumpy teacher, who would rather spend class time complaining about the elderly than teaching english. However, she gives enough extra credit out to ensure that all the students who should fail don't.
she is lazy..doesnt care if you know the info or not..talks so fast you cant write anything down. Doesnt explain anything about papers..just tells u what to write them on, no additional info.
Helpful in that she pretty much reads everyones papers and lets you know suggestions/corrections. Usually have quizzes at VERY beginning of class-SO DON'T BE LATE-that are not hard,on reading material,can help with grade. Not as organized or prepared as I would have liked.Doesn't seem to enjoy being there.Not passionate about teaching or students.

this teacher doesn't put up with bull from students and does not give respect to those that don't respect her and waste her time. its an easy class if you attend, read the material and show her the respect any teacher expects. she goes out of her way for those that don't even deserve it. but if she knows you are trying she is a very sweet lady
one word... SCATTER BRAINED. i liked her as a person but she would get SO distracted when teaching. She works hard and care about her students but it wasnt the most interesting class. and i had a hand cramp everyday i went. BE PREPARED TO WRITE and copy EVERYTHING.
she is completely useless, she rambells about everything and doesnt pay attention i dont even think she wants to teach all she did was put up slides for you to copy what is that supposed to teach so glad im finally out of that class
Ms. Griffin is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She doesn't answer questions that anyone asks, and is just generally unreasonable. When half the classes' papers didn't appear on turnitin.com, she got angry, and even when everyone showed her their digital receipts she replied "I don't care". Class is boring and does not hold attention.
I loved Ms. Griffin! It took a while to get used to her teaching style though.She gives quizzes everyday.Be prepared! In 102, we read our literature, then watched the movie on it. The midterm was hard, required aLOT of studying, but she gave the exact test to us so we could study that. The final was the same way! It can't get much easier than that!
She was alright as a person.. no she dosent answer your questions.. her teaching sucked... it was a waste of my time... i will never take another class from her
Mrs. Griffin is a good teacher. You must come to class everyday and work hard to get a good grade in this class. It is an easy class if you do what she asks of you and do the extra credit that she gives. It all helps in the long run!
American lit- she is kinda boring, but she doesn't put up with crap. She is fair and does a great job of preparing you for tests. Do not miss class. Even gives extra credit if you turn in your notes you used to study with. Loved her!
She IS a good teacher but not if you dont talk to her. If you act like you dont like her she'll do the same to you. Talk and joke with her (dont disrupt class) and just show up and at least ACT like you care.
She would tell us all of her problems.Her class was nearly impossible. And she lost my final exam, so I had to personally deal with her until it got fixed. But I can say she made me like Shakespeare. Also, she expects you to know your bible cover to cover...so start reading it!
Its an easy class but she is impossible to deal with. Her test come from the daily movie you watch and a good example of a question is "what color was the horse in the opening scene?" Her class has nothing to do with English.
Horrible doesnt take the time of day to explain things. Hardest papers to write here at Shelton State..

She is a great teacher. her class is a challenge, but she is willing to stay AFTER OFFICE HOURS to help you. thats not a common thing for professors at shelton. She was very informative and gave extra credit to those who needed it and did their work. she is a middle age woman so she knows how to use a computer which helps. i loved her class!!!
The worst teacher you will ever have. Her lectures are nonsensical mumblings best suited for a psych ward not a classroom. She will be late to class everyday and without saying a word to the class put on a video and leave the room. On the bright side her tests are easy, but apparently aren't weighted enough to carry your grade. B
If youre ever bored in class (and you will be) start counting how many times she says the word "right"... I've gotten close to 200 in one class.
I dropped because she is so annoying! I took the online course and she kept saying "If you just do your work everyday you'll pass." & then when we're trying to work she just rambles on and on about random things. So distracting! Ugh.
I didn't like the class. She would tell us to do something on an essay and then we would do it and we would get counted off for doing it wrong. And she tells you to go to the tutors but then she will disagree with how they correct your paper. And also, the whole time we were doing work, she would be on her phone and get bad when we would get up to ask her a question about something. She was never clear on her directions either. I wouldn't take her again.
She is really nice but grades papers pretty tough, but she expects perfection and gives you a lot of help. I really really really enjoyed her class and she was very easy to talk to when it came to missing an assignment or a test. She makes everything as easy as possible on you where you don't have to stress. I'll definitely take her 102 class.
I took her 102 class. She gave super easy quizes. The papers we wrote for her she didn't even read she just made sure that the works citedpge was right. Overall it was a very easy class. However, I have been told by numerous people that her 101 class is very hard.
Dont need book but is very big on writing lab (which is pretty cheap to buy and it is not graded for accuracy)
She was nice for the most part. The whole class was really easy. I would suggest anyone taking her class listens well because if you have a question, it is her worst nightmare to have to answer it. Mrs. Griffin is the sweetest lady and definently knows her stuff, however notetaking in her class makes you want to run out of the class screaming. She repeatedly says the word "right" after every sentence. Her phone always goes off in class and then she has excuses on why class needs to get out early. Overall not a horrible class just boring!
It wasnt a hard class but instructions werent clear all the time. She says "right" after everything. Follow the syllabus and it will be a smooth ride. Go to every play at Shelton and Bama, she gives bonus points.
I would suggest her class. The only tests she gives are 5 "grammar" tests where you write down the same 5 sentences for each test. No final! Write your papers, give them to her on the workshop day so you she can correct them how she wants and it will be an easy A. Just remember every english teacher does stuff different.

Most confusing person I've ever met. She is actually so confusing she was asking students to review her instructions for the other classes to make sure everyone could understand it(we helped out immensely). Other than that, she is easy and the class is easy. She is a nice person and has a good personality. Book was useless for this class.

She is a terrible teacher and her grading scale makes NO sense. I received two Bs and two As on my assigned papers, a B in my journals, and attended all but two classes, but somehow I end up with a D as a final grade. And she could not explain to me why it was that way and only said "That's your grade." DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU CAN AVOID!!!
Her class is easy, once you know what she wants. She doesn't teach a lot, and her explanations are not good. She expects you to write essays based on other examples posted on blackboard. I only had trouble with 1 essay so far due to the lack of explanation from her. She answers questions, but not good enough.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. She does not explain directions very well and hardly comes to class. When asking her about an upcoming paper that was due she refused to share any insight on the matter.

She does not have a way with words or students. However, if you ask clearly defined questions most of the time she will give you clear answers. Her grading papers is strict and tough but she gives you plenty of chances to show her your paper so she can tell you what she wants. You'll watch lots of short story movies and have lots of pop tests.
She does grade papers pretty hard, and wants things done in a specific way. The Eng 101 journal was the worst - you have to mimic other famous works but in your own words (50 pages long!!) We watched a movie or two, then had to write a paper on it. She isn't good at explaining things. You have to go to class if you want to pass with a good grade!
She is definitely VERY confusing. Like others have said she is not very clear on instructions but if you ask her to clarify she will. The assignments are very easy BUT there are a ton of them. She offers extra credit points all the time, I think I have more than 40pts. She is easy for those who like busy work and can follow a syllabus.
After a few weeks you know what to expect. We got out of class in 30 minutes and the class was 2 and half hours long. She gives grammar tests were you have to memorize 5 sentences and write them down. SUPER EASY CLASS. Gives a grace day for papers. You have to do a 50 page long journal (just dont get behind). Overall super easy.
She doesn't explain anything. Talks as if you can read her mind and expects you to as well. Half the time she didn't even know what class she was in. Her instructions are about as clear as mud. Three research papers, each one has a utterly confusing topic and your essay will be wrong regardless of how good it is.
She is the worst English teacher available at Shelton State. She gives terrible instructions and doesn't know what we are doing majority of the time. She is unclear on everything we do and when asked a question she says to look at the syllabus that she never passed out
She doesn't really explain what she wants. Half the time you don't even know what in the world she is talking about. You have to take quizes where you memorize 6 sentences and have to write them word for word. I wish I could of known before hand and i would not of taken her.
My wife and I both took this class and loved Mrs. Griffin. She can be a bit scatterbrained at times, and her assignments can be difficult, but put in the work and show her you're trying. She's extremely generous with extra credit and has stayed late many times to help answer questions. Highly recommended for anyone willing to stick with it.
I loved her. She's a great teacher and u found the class to be very easy. I passed the class with a 99. She gives you her final 5 times in test form and the papers she assigns she basically grades by if you followed her guidelines and setup. I would take her for every English I had. She's wonderful.

I can see where student do not like this professor but I enjoyed her class. She cuts it to just what you need to know and is easy if you can FOLLOW directions correctly. There are several papers that are required but they are easy to compile, again, as long as you FOLLOW directions correctly. There are days where you get credit for attendance.
This is the kindest and sweetest lady i have ever had. She is very intelligent and knows what she is talking about. I took her class for the past two years and have done really well in her class. She wants to see every student pass and she loves what she does! great teacher and really great person. Highly recommend
Took her my first semester at Shelton. Her class is really easy and easy to make an A in as long as you the work. About 5 papers (easy), journals each week, and extra credit. Would take her again.
She gives you 5 grammar rules to remember. Bi-weekly test on them, and bi-weekly test on 5 examples of them. If you can't remember the rules, she lets you write them 5 times each for full credit. The majority of grades are from the grammar test and papers. Go to SOARs for them to look over you paper. Easy extra credit offered.
She's a sweet lady but it can be a bit hard to decipher what she wants in the papers she assigns. However, she will read over them and tell you what to fix before it's due and the only tests are grammar rules.
VERY essay heavy, which I normally don't mind, but she is very unclear of what you should even be writing about, or even what she's looking for when grading. BEWARE of choosing ANY topic that could possibly be deemed "controversial" because she will be offended and ask you to chose another topic. I don't appreciate being censored

Very caring teacher and wants you to succeed. Her class pretty easy. There are stylistic imitations every other week (oral presentation) very easy. Grammar tests every other week. 5 papers and the final is just a grammar test. Loved her class. Passed her Class with an A

I took Mrs. Griffin for both 101 and 102 of my English classes. She is caring and will read over papers. As she told both of my classes we wont need a text book I assume you shouldn't. ( I would ask her). Show up, remember Vocab, Read poetry, Do papers, do short test on movies, stylistic imitations. Do your work and pass the class.
Good class. 3 papers for the class. Make sure to go to 3 plays for extra credit. Turn in all work. Follow the syllabus because sometimes things due are not discussed prior to due date.
She's a great teacher. I would highly recommend her! She will teach you a lot of useful material and tricks for writing papers! Also, she's a very understanding person and easy to talk to.
Usually, people consider her not being specific about the instructions. However, in my experience, I like her a lot as she puts everything on canvas (all sorts of instructions)that way you can refer to it at your own leisure time.

Mrs Griffin cares about students and want everybody pass with an A sometimes she is hard to understand but you can ask her and she will explain you. make sure you check syllabus every time because she doesn't tell you when an assignment is due. also essays paper she checks the format of the essays. I dont think she reads the whole paper.

Honestly the worst instructor I have ever had , does not give clear directions about anything ! Very rude ! Does not utilize class time efficiently and spends most time rambling about random things that do not pertain to the subject ! Worst professor Ive had for any class. Very unclear with instructions and does a terrible job helping you understand things you might not get about the class. I tried asking for help after a couple classes but she was rude and didnt care to help me. Would not recommend this class

In my personal opinion Ms. Griffin was not a terrible professor at all. We only had 4 papers which wasnt too hard, and after that we only watched plays that we took a quiz on, then vocabulary quizzes with poems that she read. She was very helpful in my opinion. There were also a lot of ways to get extra credit and the final was only vocab & quotes
Easy A class. She will help you if you show interest. She can be rough with those who do not care. Memorization for tests.

was she a good teacher? not really. but once you learn to understand how she grades her class becomes very easy. i has her for 101 and 102. she was really easy in 101... a little more tough in 102 but it still wasnt terrible. lots of pop quizzes and vocab quizzes in 102.
I wish I knew about RMP when I took her class in 2018. She's a terrible teacher. I learned absolutely nothing, and all you do is constantly write papers. The only plus side was that I never had to go into class, because we didn't learn anything. You just worked on your paper.
Just not a great teacher in general. You can write your heart out in a paper and she claims that "you all are great writers" but gives you a C. It's hard to understand her grading criteria. I would not recommend her to any students planning on receiving an education and thriving in literary subjects.
Had her back in 2012. The biggest issue was she kept sending me to talk to counselors about my essay. After 6 visits, I refused and said there was nothing wrong. Took a grade hit with no explanation! She's a horror in class, but super nice in person. Visit in her office for actual help on your essays, because she won't help at all in class.
Prof. Griffin is... a little odd so be warned! There aren't many assignments, just 4 papers and she lets you choose the topic. All tests are open note. If you take her I would definitely recommend doing in person, she's made comments about how she refuses to meet with online students in person because "they chose online, they can figure it out."
I personally liked Professor Griffin, we didn't have much work in the class. She gave us 4 papers. You have to be in class to understand her grading criteria she gives good tips. I wouldn't recommend taking her online. But she was easy to me all you have to do is show her you care. I came out with an A+.
Zero to no communication. Does not teach the material at all. Basically a wing it and hope you pass type of class.
My research paper grade was disappointing. I don't feel my citations were graded fairly, nor do I feel the websites I referenced were thoroughly checked to understand why my citations were formatted the way they were. Her instructions contradicted MLA 9 in some ways. I had my citations checked by 3+ tutors. They all said my citations were correct.
DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU WANT TO PASS. (normal a-b grade student)

I really enjoyed that Professor Griffin presented us with a detailed syllabus of what we would be covering in class each day. Her assignments are very clear on what she expects and how she grades. She makes it clear on day one of class that this is not ENG101 and she is not teaching you how to write an essay. Would not recommend taking online.

She is adamant about spelling and grammar but her assignment modules and rubrics are filled with mis spelled words. She is a hard grader and very meticulous in your work but doesn't proofread her own submissions. Don't bother asking for feedback because you will not get it. If you can, avoid this professor at all costs.
She does not give clear instructions and feedback is not helpful because it is also not clear. She is not tech savvy so I would not recommend taking online because she uses faulty AI detection tools and will accuse a student of cheating. Grades to heavy for it to be a introductory to English class.
She rambled the entire class and never made any sense. She wrote the same thing on every single paper she graded and graded very heavily and often gave bad grades after telling you to take it to a tutor and even when you did you still got a bad grade. She would provide zero to very little help when you ask her.

I get that she's a little quirky, but I genuinely don't know why she has so many bad reviews! I loved the class I had with Mrs. Griffin, and I'm choosing her again for English 102. There's only 4, maybe 5 papers in the whole class, which aren't that hard. She provides you with a lot of great tips. NOT HARD IF YOU PUT IN EFFORT!!!
She was not the worst but I will say you cannot miss her class. She grades papers very harshly. Tons of homework that seemed pointless and time consuming. Attendance matters. I would only recommend her if you have to take her because of time conflicts or whatever reason.
Professor Griffin's class has mixed reviews, but I found her grading process fair if you engage with the material. unstuckstudy was helpful for paper prep alongside the free textbook. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is manageable.
Isn't helpful at all. When you ask her about an assignment or a grade she will provide you with little to no feedback and doesn't care. This type of teacher belongs at a a DMV instead of a college. Do not recommend!!!!
Highly don't recommend taking. Grades insanely hard and is very strict on papers and doesn't provide good feedback. No other work other than papers. Not good about messaging back.
She is not very good at giving directions & very confusing at times but she's kinda laid back. You just need to make sure you're keeping up with her work & paying attention. The midterm/final are easy; all you need is a good memory and you will pass the tests but she does give a lot of papers tho (ENG 101 was 4) (In ENG 102 you will do 3 papers).
DO NOT take her class. You will probably fail. I've taken her twice now (she's always the last class left open because no one wants her) and both times have been awful. Get literally ANY other professor and you'll be fine. She really needs to find a different profession lmao.

Never gave clear instructions, even when asking for help. Always told me to go back to the modules but clearly the modules didn't help.

Her class is very difficult. I have always been very good at English, and she is the worst instructor I have had. She has no guidelines for the papers you will write, but grades them very harshly.
She is genuinely awful, she's rude, and for someone to be heavy on grammar and pronunciation her modules are misspelled. She is very unhelpful, and when you ask for help, she doesn't help and grades you extremely poorly. Also, the AI detection she uses SUCKS!
Tough very tough on grading essays
This professor was so rude in emails and not helpful. I even asked for a meeting on zoom or in person and she ignored my question. She gave me an F on an essay for it being “disorganized” with barely to none commentary. When I rewrote the essay for her, her response was “great”.
Don't take this terrible women's class. this lady is worse then the devil and you will fail your class.
If you don't have a religion, find one and pray. Because it is impossible to get a good grade on a paper without God.
I took the online class and it wasn't that bad. She's a tough grader and will take points off for small mistakes, but she lets you resubmit papers and sometimes extends deadlines. The exams are easy and some questions are straight from the study guide. Just memorize the notes and follow directions and you'll be fine.
DO NOT take her! She is nice, but an extremely tough grader, delayed/vague communication, frequent Canvas errors, no feedback on tests. My earned A was lowered to a B+ due to an AI accusation because I'm a good writer. Her reliance on AI created anxiety and undermined trust, which led me to hold back my best work for fear of more AI accusations.
