Danielle is very helpful, as long as you come to her office and get help. Homework quizzes each week with problems taken directly from the homework, and you can use your homework on them. She will help you with any homework problem, even those that end up on the quizzes. Lectures aren't always 100% clear, just be proactive and you will do fine.
Really cares for students, and tries to help with any problems students have. Great teacher for such a hard subject like Calculus.
Danielle is a great instructor and takes her time outside of class to help people. If you need help, you can go to her office hours and she is always willing to explain a problem to you. She sometimes makes mistakes on the board, but in return, she does not grade as harshly (e.g.: taking off the whole question from a small sign error at the end).
Homework itself is typically given every night, but she always makes time to help her students. Completed homework 100% on quizzes -- questions are exact same problems, open-hw. A quiz is given almost every Friday (25% of your grade, easy points). Exams can be tough, but get all of your questions answered & you will do well. Wonderful professor.
She's a great instructor. She makes sure that students understand what she is teaching. Her practice worksheets are great. I recently took a statistic class 2 years ago but I did not understand any of it, Mrs. Jacobson really made me enjoy doing statistics.
She is really nice and helpful if you ask. She is ok if you are a little late and doesn't take attendance. However, she talks very quietly, she stands infront of the board she is writing on, and she makes tons of mistakes (mathematical and grammatical) while teaching. Her quizes are easy but tests are impossible. I worked my very hardest but failed
Ms. Jacobson is very kind and her course was well structured. I found lectures to be clear and organized. Quizzes aren't too stressful if you take the time to get help on your homework. She is approachable, which makes getting help easy. This class was tough but I had a great experience and was pleased with the instructor and her knowledge.
She is an awesome professor, and I would recommend taking her. Her classes are well organized, she posts just about everything you need on Canvas, and she has a really comfortable classroom environment. I loved how the course was interactive, but also a challenge. The content itself can be tough, so don't go into expecting an easy A.
Awesome!!!
She is an amazing instructor, probably the best I have had. Her lectures are clear, organized, and entertaining. The class is super interactive and it is obvious she is passionate about math and cares. She is nice, but the class is challenging and tests are super tough. Be ready to work hard.
I took Dr. Jacobson for Calc. She's a super nice teacher. However, she makes mistakes on the whiteboard just about every lecture. She reads off her notes and doesn't explain everything which makes lectures hard to follow. I basically taught myself Calculus the whole quarter.
Funny, we just got an extra credit assignment today. On top of the 3 we have already gotten and the exam she allowed us to completely rework through last week. I thought the class was great, but think if you aren't a person who likes to be challenged and value a grade over learning, you shouldn't take the course. She's a stud though.
This was by far the most interesting math class I have taken. We use current data and ideas, which makes the content very engaging. I loved that the course was made of several different things (projects, group work, homework, lectures, activities, exams). Ms. Jacobson was also motivating and put a lot of work into helping me.
Ms Jacoson is very sweet and helpful. I had no trouble with her class it was just boring, but that is to be expected as I'm not someone who likes math. She made review days optional which was great since I usually didn't need too much review. Take home quizzes & final project optional instead of final
She is a nice teacher and help is mostly there when you ask. Her tests/exams are much harder than the problems she does in class. To add to that, she makes multiple mistakes on the whiteboard daily, so taking notes is a hassle. Barely any extra credit. If you don't have a lot of time to teach yourself, I wouldn't take this class.
Her test and quizzes were very unclear, she was very unorganized had to be corrected multiple time per class. She worded questions in a way you had no idea what she was asking, Bad at replying to emails and she was hostile about answering questions. Would not recommend
The class itself was easy and lectures are well organized. She seems very nice in class most days, but can become almost annoyed when asked questions by certain students, same for if you come in with questions during office hours. She also takes weeks on getting things graded and entered. Other than that she's a good teacher and would take again.
She has super smooth lectures and is awesome as a person. I thought the class was great and she made it fun even though it was a tough subject. The course is well set up and organized, she is really clear with expectations. (Side note: another plus is she is the most attractive professor you will probably ever see!).
Hard subject but Ms. Jacobson made it really easy to understand. Gives quizzes every week but they're open homework and they are exactly the same questions. Easy class as long as you don't skip too much and do the homework. She tries to make tests as easy as she possibly can but they're still kind of tough. I would recommend taking her class.
I really did not enjoy Danielle this summer. She makes students feel stupid when they ask questions in class, they are typically answered with something along the lines of "you should already know this". Her lectures are straight from her notes and don't bother trying to go to office hours, b/c she won't be there. I regret taking her class.
Lets set the record straight. Ms. Jacobson is a fantastic Math Professor. She creates a learning environment that is inclusive for the entire class (those willing to participate). Her grading is fair, albeit the questions can be a bit difficult at times. She explains things well. I took her for 152 and 153, and with any luck will have her again.
I had Prof. Jacobson for Calc. 3. She makes so many mistakes on the white board every day, and then expects that students will understand because "she is human too". So difficult to understand these difficult concepts with a teacher that seems to have a lack of understanding of the subject matter herself.
Her lectures were clear and easy to follow. Quizzes were easy and exams were fair. If you show up to classes and make an effort to understand the material then she is more likely to be helpful during office hours. Overall great teacher and easy class.
HW assigned every day, but not checked for completion. Weekly quiz has identical problems to HW and is open-HW. Lectures: thorough, very clear, made concepts easy to understand. Show up everyday and you'll do great. Didn't take points off tests for silly mistakes. Tests on concept knowledge, not being perfect under pressure. TAKE HER FOR CALC!
I took Ms. Jacobson for Calc 1, 2, 3 and Linear Algebra. She was consistently organized, fair, and extremely clear in lectures during all of these courses. I would say she was really good at teaching all the Calcs. Linear Algebra was decent, but not as great. In general I am thankful I got to spend over a year with her and would recommend.
Crisp. Precise. Emphasizes exacting nuance necessary for success in advanced mathematics by providing nearly flawless lecture and plenty of time to ask questions outside of class. Expects and encourages students to logically aspire to improve their grade through careful decision-making processes. "Are you sure? Bet your grade on it?" Study hard.
Ms. Jacobson is nice, but she makes a LOT of computational and spelling mistakes. Normally that kind of thing is ignorable, but it created a lot of confusion because she would often come up with wrong answers and her problem statements were difficult to understand because of it. I was even a bit worried that she made grading mistakes.
Great at breaking down complex concepts and making them easier to understand. She gets annoyed when students ask questions that she doesn't understand. Tests were hard but fair and she gives extra credit. Very helpful during office hours. Great professor overall, would definitely take again.
I'm always amazed when this prof gets rated low for quality or difficulty. Best math teacher for the student that is curious, aware of, and enjoys math. Computational errors and spelling felt like a complete nonissue and weren't so incessant as to wrankle more adept note takers (let profs write a minute or two ahead of your notes). Gradinglogical
This class SUCKED. a fine person but this class is hard to do online To teach yourself these concepts. Tough quizzes every week worth alot of points. Homework is alot and does not count for hardly anything of your grade. 4 exams, SUPER HARD, and worth a TON of your grade so if you don't do well on them you'll fail the class. Dont do it online
Ms. Jacobson does a good job with her online class. Taking STATS online takes a lot of work, period. No one should be surprised or place blame when they take a difficult class and it takes more work than anticipated. Getting an A is definitely possible if you do the work and actually try to understand the concepts. You get out what you put in.
I loved this teacher and thought she did a great job! I've always disliked math, but she made class fun, and I felt really comfortable with her and my classmates. It seemed like she thought out how she set up the course and gave reasons for everything we did. She's tough and sticks to her course rules/expectations, but still seemed to care greatly.
The weighted grading doesn't necessarily correspond to the hours you'll invest. The homework is a VERY small part of your grade, despite taking the most time to do. Handouts can be short, exams and quizzes are the meat of this class. Participation will kill you too - do those weekly posts. Wish this class was on campus. She is INCREDIBLY pretty.
Ms. Jacobson is a really good teacher who gives a clear lecture. She would layout homework everyday but will not check completion.
she's a pretty good teacher. Her lectures are easy to comprehend because she explains everything really well. Her tests are really hard however, and they are a huge chunk of your grade. She's really kind and willing to give office hours to you though.
She is very clear, fair, kind, and thorough. We were encouraged to think through reasoning of what we were doing, and also to use methods that worked best for us. There is ALOT of participation in this class, so you can't miss often. I already have a degree, so have taken many classes, and she is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
I learned a lot in this class and felt that it was applicable. The teacher is organized, kind, responsive, and helpful. The content itself is tough, but if you work at it, it's doable. Read all discussion boards and participate in them, you will learn a lot from them, and the teacher and classmates help a lot on them, plus it's worth points.
Solid choice for a teacher, I recommend. Pros: Clear, organized, kind, fair, will make time to help you, pretty funny, really pretty. Cons: Exams can be tough (but fair), kind of strict on late work and policies, can be a bit sassy if people aren't being respectful (goofing off, talking, not paying attention).
Great teacher! Fair grader, explains everything so easily that even a 6th grader could do this kind of math. She doesn't take attendance, but she does give participation points on hand-out days. Quizzes were based on the homework questions, so as long as you do the homework, you'll pass the quizzes! Overall, one of my favorite teachers!
She's brilliant and the girl ain't playin, this course is tough. Really concise with reasoning and give background info and history which is cool.
She teaches very well, the course in general was very hard. She gives out homework but doesn't check, so make sure to do them to understand how to actually do the problems. Very good teacher. Plus, she's very pretty
I have never really thought of teaching as a "gift" before, but this teacher is probably the most naturally gifted I have ever had. She is clear, neat, concise, and smart, but still engaging and entertaining. Just a lovely person inside and out. I felt at ease in her class due to her calm demeanor, but also still motivated to work hard.
She was a great teacher and I definitely learned a lot in her class. The tests were pretty hard, but you always know what will be on them. She explained things in a really easy to understand way, and made sure to do lots of practice with the whole class.
It's pretty amazing how good she is at breaking down such complex ideas. This class is tough and abstract, but I was still able to understand underlying concepts because she was so good at establishing the logic behind them. She is picky about proofs and showing clear thinking though, so sometimes the grading can be tough.
I adored this instructor. She is a fantastic lecturer because she is so clear, concise, exceptionally intelligent, and displays that she is passionate about the subject. She has a great personality, funny and engaging. The class is hard, but she is all around awesome, and I think she made my experience the best it could have been.
Danielle is one of my favorite math instructor at BC. So helpful at class and accessible any time. Although Math 208 is conceptually different with other math classes I have taken before, I feel comfortable at class. You won't pass the class if you don't show up or study materials in the last minutes. I highly recommend her for MATH 208.
I took her online math class. It wasnt the hardest class but you do have to go on campus or get proctored for test. There is an option to do a project over taking the final test which can really help boost your grade if youre awful at taking test like I am.
She is about as far from a stereotypical math instructor that you can get. She explains the theoretical idea of the course with logic, reasoning, and justification. Grading is fair and reasonable. Extremely calm, kind, and light hearted. Sticks to rules and policies. It also doesn't hurt that she is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.
It was almost impossible to communicate with her.. It was very hard to reach out to her. Lots of homework but doesn't count on grade much. QUIZZES & EXAMS are what you need to focus on to get an A.
I took her for Math153 a few quarters back and took her for stats online this quarter. She is an incredible teacher who truly cares about students and their growth. Online stats was difficult, but she made it so that it wasn't impossible. Though I won't be taking anymore math classes here at Bellevue I'm glad I got to take the ones I did with her.
Oftentimes, a teacher is the main factor to decide whether the class is a good experience or really bad one and that was exactly my case with Danielle. She is caring, has a great class structure, helpful videos to watch and other resources and is always available online to help or answer any questions you might have. Highly recommend!
Danielle is a fantastic professor. Very good at explaining concepts, fair grader, funny, just a little bit sassy, and engaging and available with students. I know this is a bit shallow but she is also the most attractive teacher Ive ever had, absolutely gorgeous.
Was willing to work with me throughout the entire quarter. There was quite a bit of work, but it was all useful and if done throughout the week was not too bad. She definitely knows what shes doing.
Hard class but I'm happy with my grade. Great teacher because she explains the material and helps you any way she can. If I could do anything differently, I would take the class on campus instead of online. Quizzes every week and an exam every 3 weeks. Another tip is to take this class without any other hard classes because it gets grueling.
Ms. Jacobson is amazing! Her lectures are super helpful and she takes homework questions, and makes sure that she stops for questions during lectures. She asks for ways she can be more helpful and help us learn. Do your homework and pay attention in class and the quiz/tests will be easy. Learned a lot I wish Ms. Jacobson taught calculus 2 as well!
She is a great teacher! She helped me out if I had questions, and if you do the work you will pass the class. Her tests are not hard at all. Just make sure to keep up with the work- its fast pace! She is very clear on her expectations.
I really liked Professor Jacobson- she is very clear in what she expects from you and as long as you show up and do the homework you probably will do okay. She has office hours in case you need to come in and ask questions and she responds to emails very quickly!
This class is tough because it's math online. Ms. Jacobson is organized and clear with what she expects. She also provides good lecture videos for the tougher material. So, if you stay organized, try to actually understand the material, participate, and don't procrastinate, it's not so bad. I wish I would have been able to take her in person though.
She's one of the best Math teachers you can get at BC. She does grade attendance on in class worksheets. If the class does bad, she usually has extra credit. She drops one quiz grade. For the final she also replaced the lowest exam grade if your final was higher. Particiaption10%, 3 Exams45%,6-7 Quizzes25%, Final20%. She can be sassy at times.
I have taken Ms. Jacobson for multiple courses and she has been fantastic at explaining things every time. She is clear, reasonable, organized, and consistent. I took her for Calc 1 and she was a bit better at that than Calc 4, but Calc 4 was still good. She is particular about rules/due dates, and doesn't give lot of extra credit.
This class is hard online, and better to take in person if you can. However, Danielle is organized, clear with expectations, and provides lecture videos for some chapters. Danielle is quick to respond to email/discussions. She is slow with grading. Solutions have errors sometimes, but the extra practice is great, so I still appreciated those.
She shares an uncanny dedication seen by few@BC. Lectures incl. printed notes as handouts. We experienced 1 sub this quarter & a reliable friend had another instructor & Daniellebest choice. She brings a strictly guided approach from a U. Only critiques are to slow the rate of speech & provide more layman examples to grasp new stats concepts.
Great prof. Took her online math 138 class. Definitely a time investment but if you are consistent with doing your work you will do fine.
I was so nervous to take stats because I have had a super hard time in previous math classes, especially taking it online, but she made it doable, provided quick feedback and answered every single question in discussion. Fast grader, tests are 100 points and only 10-15 questions but they are very straight forward and easy if you just do the hw.
She is super organized and responsive. Generally got back to emails fast and answered all discussion board questions during the weekdays. Exams and grading are tough, but reasonable. This was hard online, but she provided detailed notes, videos, and was there to help. Scary at first because of rules/policies, but she is nice if you follow those.
Danielle is amazing. Super sweet and really wants you to succeed. Weekly take-home quizzes are very doable. Harsh grader for exams but they aren't a huge portion of the grade. The material is tough (especially proofs!) but she makes it applicable and accessible. HW isn't turned in but it's helpful to do anyway. Would take this again in a heartbeat.
Wonderful teacher. While she gave a sizable amount of homework, the work helped properly prepare you for her tests. She held the class to fair and reasonable expectations and was always willing to help.
Her lectures are great. Very clear, organized, and entertaining. She does a good job of relating the material to relevant things and talking about concepts/reasoning behind the math. She is nice and always concerned about whether people are learning and reflective. The class is really freaking tough though, and the exams are brutal.
She is very good at the managerial aspects of the course. Prompt with emails and grading, and highly organized. Her lectures flow well and everything connects with reasoning. She is available and happy to help. She can be a little flighty at times, which is somewhat tough because the class is hard. Ask questions and work hard and you'll be good.
This was my second time taking MATH208, and I decided to take her class. She is a better teacher in every regard in comparison to my old teacher. She really cares about us learning the content, and will really nag us about reading and doing the homework for the class. The class is tough, but she is really helpful and is willing to help you succeed.
She lets you figure out how to do the lessons rather than starting with an introduction for the purpose of the learned material and the reasoning behind each step. The course was fast paced and takes a big chunk out of the time you have toward the end of the week because of tedious homework and the need to study for upcoming tests and quizzes.
Professor Jacobson is the best! She's great at what she does and her lectures are engaging and informative. Make sure you spend time on the notes and homework, and the tests shouldn't be too difficult.
I have never done one of these before but this class was so annoying and stupid I had too. the stuff she teaches you for homework and on the notes doesn't matter. because once the weekly quiz comes out all of that learning you just did doesn't mean squat. you have to learn stuff you ain't even supposed too in this class doesn't take it.
i'm terrible at math, but this instructor really helped me. she's great and will not hesitate to make a video reexplaining a concept if you don't understand it. there's lots of homework with one weekly quiz, and they're all pretty lengthy. however, if you read her lectures/notes, you will definitely pass her class!
Danielle is a nice teacher. She definitely cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. Lots of homework and gives a quiz on non-exam weeks that you get 2 tries on. Three exams and one final, she replaces your lowest exam score with the final. Her lectures give you main idea but you will have to use Kahn academy or other sources.
Great teacher, doesn't require any simplification on exam work. Do not try to cheat online for group work in this course; the teacher knows about chegg and will give a 0. I would recommend using Slader and Desmos to check textbook answers. Exams questions will be easy and more based on FULL understanding of concepts.
She is a nice person. But, not professor. She says to review the homework, but the homework are not really like the exams. She is also not understanding of the student. Take her only if you want only math on your mind all the time!!
Danielle was really helpful and always active in the discussion forums to help the class. Her lecture were always detailed, yet very helpful and easy to follow. Tests were always graded fairly and she gave us a lot of extra credit opportunities. As long as you watch the lectures and participate in discussions, the class is an easy A.
Danielle does not actually teach. She types up notes and posts them expecting you to teach yourself. Like others mentioned, she gives loads of homework and the tests are much harder than the assignments. Also, I felt like her own personal life was more important than doing her job. She only allows for one hour for her office hours.
She expects you to teach yourself the first 4 weeks (the only help you really get is through discussion boards with other students) and then after the 5th week, she will finally start posting up lectures to help you. If you want to pay to teach yourself, this is the class for you.
This class is well structured and organized. Danielle is kind, helpful, available to help durring office hours, and more active on discussion boards than any other prof I have had. Lecture videos are very helpful. Exams are exactly what I expected after doing homework, worksheets, and paying attention to notes.
Danielle is so organized. It is nice because you know what to expect. She creates lecture videos and notes for every topic, which are clear and easy to follow. Exams are what I expected after I paid attention to coursework and exam layouts. Danielle has several office hours per week and is always on discussion boards helping during the week.
This class is interesting and the teacher is helpful in office hours and on discussion boards. She is quick to give feedback and the assessments are fair, no surprises if you pay attention. YouTube videos and her lecture notes are provided for the easy part of the class. She posts her own lectures for the hard part. Easy if you actually try.
I took her over this past summer for math 151 and I can say she has good lectures. But the amount of work she assigns is too much. There are too many homework problems. Tests are okay, but some questions can be quite difficult. If you take her, get ready to have math on your mind.
Her lectures are very clear and easy to follow. I apprecaited that she focused on why things worked and where they came from. I felt like I actually learned in this class. It is somewhat challenging, but I feel more confident in my math skills now and I can honestly say I learned math even though it was online.
She is hands down the best math professor I have had online so far. I was worried I wouldn't actually learn anything while taking math online since I didn't have to do hardly anything other classes. Her class is way more organized than my other ones were and there are a ton of resources. Everything she gives is very detailed and helpful.
There is a lot of work in the course, but its pretty realistic and doable if you pace yourself well. Might struggle if you're a procrastinator. She'll help you a lot if you ask questions on the discussion board or go to office hours. The class was surprisingly pretty interesting and applicable. I usually hate math but didn't mind this class.
One of the best teachers Ive had. Very clear expectations and gives many opportunities to get ready for the test.
Danielle provides in-depth lectures on every section covered, explaining not only how to solve the problems, but why the strategies work. There is a fair bit of homework, so make sure you stay on top of it! As long as you truly understand the material being taught, exams and homework will be a breeze. Definitely take her classes!
The teacher has high expectations, but makes those evident, so pay attention. I noticed a couple of classmates complain about things that were made clear from day 1, which was unreasonable. Exams are consistent with lectures and homework, you basically just need to truly understan to do well. The class is tougher than most online, but I learned.
Professor Jacobson was an amazing Calculus teacher who did a fantastic job teaching me the fundamentals of Calc. She can come off as strict sometimes, but truthfully she tries her best to help every student pass. She is very accessible and her office hours are a great time to get some personalized help (I needed it!). Overall highly recommend!
Wasn't my favorite in my opinion. She said she was very busy outside of class and sometimes never returned emails. Lots of homework. If you don't know your prereqs then get ready how you don't know them. Seems like she'd be better in person as she doesn't like the online learning.
She is organized and usually prompt. She records lectures for most sections, there were a few from professor Leonard. Her grading is strict, but she gives multiple tries on skills checks, so you have a chance to learn and understand without severe penalty. There is a large expectation that you know prereqs, so that is tough, but makes senese.
RMP: "Easy A! great professor! definitely would take her again! *me halfway through the quarter* me: I've been bamboozled but rlly tho, she is a decent professor, I am the problem.
I felt like I was getting my A kicked all quarter long. It was brutal, but I also procrastinated a lot, which didn't work very well. That being said, she is honestly a really good professor and did everything she could have, so I have to give credit where it's due. I mostly just thought it would be easier since it is online and during Covid.
I have never had a good experience with math until this class. I felt like I finally understood why I was doing things and how it could be useful. I get stressed if I can't plan and things aren't organized, so I appreciated that this prof was organized and I always knew what to expect. She is helpful in office hours and active in discussion boards.
I tend to struggle with math but surprisingly, this quarter was decent! The class was very well organized and structured. Expectations were made clear. There is homework, quizzes/projects, discussions, and exams. Plenty of EC opportunities and UTILIZE DISCUSSION BOARDS. Very accessible and understanding through email. Remember to practice and study
All the lecture videos were clear and easy to follow, and she really cares about her students. When the whole class was struggling on the skills checks, she changed her policies and let us correct them, and gave helpful feedback to make corrections easier. She also had office hours where you could go ask questions.
Danielle was one of the best professors I've had for math, this class is relatively based on how much effort and work you put in and that will be your outcome. She has dedicated office hours for extra help and most of the class is just doing homework from the book and a few tests which are straightforward if you study and do the hw! She was great
She's funny. And we watched YOUTUBE and Googled lots of things!
She is a very tough grader for a class that is supposed to be somewhat easy. The homework assignment (several each week) and the discussion points due each week don't add anything to the grade percentage; it's only the quizzes/projects and the exams that add points. She also uses lockdown browser for exams.
This was her first time teaching this class, so I was worried when she mentioned it. It turned out great. Her materials were much more organized than most, expectations clear, and lectures were good (self made). Tough class for sure but it was manageable if done throughout the week. She was always nice and helpful in office hours. I recommend.
Love this professor! She is very well organized and a fair grader. The material itself gets tricky toward the end of the semester but she does a very good job with explaining everything and keeps the students accountable for their own learning. She is very supportive and will go out of her way to help you understand the material!
She assigned us 8 assignments 2 days before the final and 4 assignments 1 day before. For extra credit we had to complete long homework assignments that would only add very little points to our overall grade and the final project that's counted as extra credit is one long project that you have to have spent days working on.
6.5/10. She's an decent professor. Sometimes her notes are hard to understand, sometimes they are amazing. Lectures are the same way. Like any math class, it can difficult and takes time and practice to succeed (Especially in this class). She sets clear expectations of her students. She really cares and is willing to answer any questions.
Solid instructor. She is really nice and helpful in office hours. The class was hard but there are a lot of resources and it is super organized so you know what to expect. Her expectations that you know prereqs are kinda high. In general do the work, makes sure you understand why stuff is true, participate, ask questions, and you should be fine.
Not sure how her ratings so high. Her class is cutthroat. She requires lockdown browser for tests and doesnt like to go over answers to questions in depth. Sometimes she doesnt even finish the problem all the way in her video lectures. I took this class after seeing the reviews but Im pretty sure the class consensus is that its way too hard
She does a good job with the class. Everything was well organized and if there was ever question on due dates she was quick to answer/edit. The most helpful thing is office hours, hers are great, she welcomes questions, explains things well, and is funny. The class was hard but it was also super compacted due to it being in summer.
Excellent professor. Great and Funny Lectures. Easy Class. I cheated on her test by finding answers online, but I'm sure she would never find out.
.As long as you do the homework and watch her lectures you'll do well. She does give extra credit which I always completed as well as any extra work assigned as it was extra practice. Her exams consisted of easier problems sets for the word problems. Very fair teacher that prepares you for calc 2. Just study and focus and you'll be fine.
You'd like this class if you were an english major considering the amount of notes to have to take :skull: Lots of homework and long boring lectures,
If you have trouble remembering/have memory problems then this class is not for you. If you used notecards to make sure you get theorems or formulas correct, you cannot do that here. It's all memory and if forget something it's game over. But if you're good at remembering then you might do well.
Tough class, great teacher. I have learned more in this class than any other math class. Tests are nerve wracking because they are in person and you don't get notes or the book. Unlimited fixes on skills checks with good feedback to help. Other grades are on completion. Lectures and practice materials are great. High expectations but nice/helpful.
I thought the class was pretty standard and fair. Exams, coursework, and policies were reasonable. Expectations really clear. Lectures are self recorded, organized, and easy to follow. Helpful during office hours and generally has at least a few per week. Boring material but good instructor.
This is the most Ive ever struggled in a Math course. Not because the content is hard but because tests make up a total of 65% of your grade with test averages being around 50-65%. Though the instructor is fine, your grades are purely dependent on your test taking abilities (working under pressure with speed) rather than your math understanding.
I did not enjoy this course at all! It was made way too difficult. No matter how hard I tried, I was unable to do well on the exams. If this is your only class then I think it should be fine. However, if you are a STEM major taking a science class and this class, it will be difficult to manage all that in one quarter.
Enjoyed Professor Jacobson course. Lots of extra work to pad your grade. Got B's and B-'s in exams and did all the work/extra credit and ended up with an A-. Be sure to not waste too much time on certain problems in the book as sometimes not much focus is put into them. Get clarification in office hours about the problem. Office hours are great. :)
Incredibly test heavy course (65% of grade are exams, in-person exams). Studied my brains out. Only take this class if you have no other courses to even slightly stress about and that it is the only available option. I had no time for any other activities (LITERALLY and thats a PERIODT). The instructor themself was ok and fast to respond.Saveurself
Eh... wouldn't take her again. Exams are difficult and there isn't any multiple choice. She is a very heavy grader and does not give out reasonable extra credit.. Instead she makes you complete multiple pages of hard questions that can go towards 1% on an exam instead of your grade. She was nice but not flexible or understanding. No late assignment
Pros: Organized, clear expectations, kind, responsive, strong lectures that are consistent with assigned work, straightforward in terms of content on exams/quizzes, 3 late passes, 3 dropped assignments, 1 exam replacement option. Cons: slow to grade sometimes, didn't give solutions to two handouts. Nice person but doesn't budge on policies.
Danielle is really organized and most assignments were up on the first day of classes, so I knew what was expected and could schedule. Lectures are clear/useful. The material all follows the lectures well, though tere are a lot of word problems in stats, which kind of sucks. She is helpful/nice in office hours, so I would use those if you take her.
Took classes with this teacher twice, both of those classes are the most I've ever enjoyed math at BC. Gives high-quality lectures and is always around to help during office hours. Homework load can be large depending on what level you're at but the workload usually matches the extent of the material you're learning.
She is kind, wants you to succeed, gives you a lot of assignments to succeed, holds office hours, and her explanations are good. For the assignments graded on completion, she doesn't actually look at the submissions, so if you submit a blank paper you will get full credit for the assignment. She is tough, but helpful.
Danielle is a nice teacher. Her class is very easy, she gives lot of extra credit, and lots of extra practice. She is very responsive and helpful. Although some of her assignments are quite tedious. I recommend her class.
Overall this was a very well-structured class that I really did enjoy. Professor Jacobsen is clear with her expectations and altogether is very understanding and really makes everything clear from the start. Overall the tests arent hard if you take the time to learn the material genuinely.
Excellent professor, very kind, grades fairly, assignments were well-balanced between homework, quizzes, exams, and discussion boards. Very helpful in her office hours. I felt like I gained a solid foundation in calculus. Wish I could have her for all of my math classes. Highly recommend Dr. Jacobson!!
You will learn the subject if you put in time and effort
although the professor is nice and gets back to you fast, she is bad at explaining. maybe it's because the course is online, but she barley explains her work in the video lectures. offers very little extra credit, like 4 pages of problems for 1% extra credit on the exam (max 2% with 2 extra credit worksheets). exam takes up like 70% of grade..
The concepts are quite heavy but prof. Jacobson explained the concepts really well. I recommend attending office hours if you need extra help. She also has a clear grading and responds quickly. =)
Found the class to be ok. Workload was a lot and its easy to fall behind on assignments. However she gives 4 late passes and several chances to fix your quizzes. I highly recommend coming to office hours for extra help. Extra credit opportunities were annoying though, as you would have to complete 3+ pages of work just for 1% of credit.
very chill compared to pre calc or calc classes, concepts are easy to understand, lectures can range from 10-30 min, ~3 hrs of hw/ wk. very accessible and tests are reflective of hw material. ec and late passes available, some low grades can be dropped
The structure each week is the same (lecture, notes, homework, project or test, participation/discussion) so you know what to expect. Just do the work and you will be fine. She is very helpful; lectures are easy to understand, and she quickly responds to email and discussion questions. Totally recommend!
Professor Jacobson is amazing and would recommend taking her. Class is based on lectures she records and textbook homework. Offers great help through discussion posts. Skills Checks each week that can be resubmitted for full credit. Extra credit for exams. Cares a lot about students and excellent prof all around
Bad at lectures, she makes at least 2 mistakes in every video and then corrects it in the comment for the assignment. TEST HEAVY. It's not that the content for exams is bad, it's that she makes tests 20-30 points and scales it up to 100, so even if you get one question wrong, you're looking at a B-B+ range .Homework is tough, strict on deadlines.
I am very impressed how Professor Jacobson can turn such a cold and calculated subject such as math to be so engaging! The discussion posts at first were annoying, but they really did help, and sometimes she posts videos of her doing tough problems for you. I would definitely retake her class if I could! (P.S, expect the WebAssigns to be tough)
Professor Jacobson's class was one of the best math classes I have taken. She has clear video lectures, provides note-taking templates, and always checks in with students weekly on their progress. Homework assignments can be a little lengthy, but they prepare you very well for the exams. She is also very accessible, but mostly during school hours.
Amazing professor and she makes all lectures by herself and they are amazingly clear and she teaches the subject matter very well. Exams are hard but not insane but lowest score gets replaced by final. In addition extra credit is offered (not much, about 1% for 1-2 pages of worksheets, but still very helpful). Overall amazing teacher and class.
She was very nice.
Prof. Jacobson's class is challenging but worth it. Her lectures are clear, and she provides helpful resources like discussion posts and resubmittable quizzes. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for exam prep.
She is very nice, but the workload is not a joke. The exams were difficult.
Ms. Jacobson hosts a well-organized classroom structure and her lectures are crystal clear. She teaches the subject matter very well, and recommends students to use the textbook, as she bases her teaching/homework from it. Lots of office hours to ask her questions, many chances for extra credit (through WS's). Incredible learning experience.
The instructor is kind and caring, but the workload is overwhelming. Not joking when I say the exams are TOUGH. Many unnecessary assignments like submitting notes. While late passes help and it's graded by many things, the hard exams make it tough to get an A. Even extra credit isn't worth it, it's a full worksheet for only 2 points.
Professor Jacobson is an overall kind and caring professor. She's very helpful in discussions and is always quick to respond over email. I suggest you don't procrastinate if you wanna take her. She assigns ALOT of homework and 4 exams which are MUCH harder than what's taught. Although she does curve grades and gives many extra credit opportunities.
She was an awesome teacher for Math151. Her lectures were insanely interesting and not boring to watch. They were also short and really easy to understand and follow. Her tests also match up with the homework and practice she gives before. Homework took a little while but matches up well with the questions on the exams. Final is a little hard.
Calc is a hard class but Prof. Jacobson was good. There is definitely a lot of homework (problems aren't necessarily similar to the exams), but it is all graded on completion. There are frequent skill checks that can be revised as many times as needed to get full credit, and she does provide good feedback. Very helpful during office hours as well.
She is a really kind, helpful, and welcoming person. What I appreciated the most is that her class is really organized and she communicates super well. She was always there to help on discussion boards and her office hours are useful. Tough class, but she teaches it well and I learned a lot.
Professor Jacobson was great! She is really kind and caring and she cares a lot about you and your grade. Her lectures are a little long but fun. Her tests were really easy as long as you studied and paid attention. 10/10
I enjoyed the structure of the class. At first, it felt extremely difficult, but then I got used to it. Just took a thinking shift. Prof. Danielle is organized, and things are clearly laid out. You get chances to fix skills checks after getting feedback. She is super helpful in office hours+disc boards. All of those things helped me learn at lot.
professor jacobson hosted an extremely organized & communicative class! calculus 1 can get confusing, and i definitely struggled with it but coming to office hours definitely helps. there are 4 exams weighted at 15% each, meaning that this class is pretty test heavy. there is extra credit, but it's 1% for 2-3 pages of work (do it). good luck!
Most caring and responsive math teacher ever. Be prepared for lots of homework and lecture notes (all for credit). The extra credit helps IMMENSELY, so please do it. The prof WANTS you to succeed, so ask questions and use discussion boards (very helpful). Review harder examples in the notes to study for tests! You won't regret taking this class.
I loved Prof Jacobson, this is the first year I've done very well in a math class. The due dates for asynchronous learning are spread out throughout the week so procrastination doesn't happen at all. The exams are all taken during specific time slots that are first come first serve, I personally liked taking them at 7:30 am. No retakes though..
I have mixed feelings about her. On the one hand, she's very accessible and will answer your questions during office hours and she did offer a big extra credit opportunity for her first test. On the other hand, her system for skills checks is confusing. She doesn't create another assignment but instead extends the due dates, which messes canvas up.
I loved the teacher and the class. Prof Jacobson is kind, helpful, gives good feedback, and is responsive. I felt like I learned things in the class I could use. Usually I am scared of math, but this wasn't so bad. I am thankful to have taken the class with her because she is a great teacher.
She is a nice professor, you can ask question during office hours and she will reply really quick. She actually want us to be success. There are 4 exams and the last exam can replace one of the exam that have the lowest score. Extra credit is given after we complete worksheets.
She give out work, by parts she will turn one topic and create 6 assignments from that. At the same time her direction of her assignments are unclear on what she asking, so if you think your doing thing right your not.She also doest care about her students, she will tell you drop everything other courses, outside life and blame you for not focusing
I've never taken an easier math class. Her class is structured well and straightforward, making it easier for us to catch up and ask questions if needed. Weekly discussion boards, notes, assignments, and extra credit assignments are what needed to be done weekly. Responds super fast to emails. Take her!
This teacher was horrible. As someone who struggled with math, it was so hard because the teacher is the hardest grader I have ever had. Literally had to withdraw from the class with a W because of this
Professor Jacobson is kind and helpful. Lectures are clear and concise, however a bit fast, but it was a non-issue because I could pause or rewind when needed. The class is very organized. Communication was good/quick. You get skills checks where she gives feedback and then you can fix mistakes as long as it is on time. I learned a lot from those.
I have bad anxiety, but she was the perfect teacher to help with this. Shes clear about expectations and the course was laid out ahead of time. She gives fast and good feedback, which helped me learn. Class has around 5 late passes and 5 drops, which I personally did well with because I knew what was allowed. She is nice, calm, smart, and helpful.
very sweet professor, but heavy workload and assignments required soooo much yap. you know exactly what to expect for the week ahead, and the prof is very reachable, but just way more work than necessary imo. i think maybe this class would be better irl. if you like asynchronous online classes, don't take this, you'll have something due everyday.
Prof Jacobson was great! There's a lot of homework and assignments but expectations and due dates are clear. Very fair with grading and she provides all the resources you need to succeed. Lectures were engaging and she really knows how to explain the content. Definitely recommend
She is willing to help, but there is just too much work in the class. I also felt like the tests weren't fair and were much more challenging compared to some homework. I'm now an engineer and have found that even some engineering professors weren't as tough or homework-heavy. I think there are better options. If you can, avoid the course!
To be fair professor jacobson offers tons of resources, extra credit and tutoring. No issues here. Class is work intensive which can be good for some but not if you are prone to burnout. Tests are pretty tough. My issue was my summer courses workload was too heavy I could notkeep up. If you are in a normal semester this course may be okay.
I took this ashynconuslly and honestly, any async class is going to be hard but what helped me alot was going to math labs. I think her the video lectures are ok, but her feedback, grading rubric and extra credit is what really saved me in the class.
LOTS OF WORK! Asynch has its challenges, but she's extremely accessible and responsive. She has this discussion board where students can ask questions, where she'll eventually answer and other students can answer. She was kind and her lecture videos went step by step with notes which I found extremely helpful. Wish I took her for 152!
She gives a lot of assessments, even prior to the exam
Took her class in the summer and it was super fast, but she was very helpful keeping us on track. Got a little burnt out near the end, but everything prepared me for the next calc series. Not a fan of turning in my notes for a grade though. She does give late passes.
Took her MATH&151 course and now her MATH 130 course. She's very organized and there are late passes/1 dropped project/final grade replaces lowest exam. Expect a lot of assignments, such as turning in notes/HW/weekly participation. Overall, a manageable course and her scheduled office hours are helpful.
I really REALLY enjoyed her class this quarter. She gives you a lot of assignments that will help you succeed on the exams. Professor Jacobson works through things clearly and there are a lot of opportunities to get help. Keep up with the work and you will definitely get an A.
