OH NO she gives waaay too much homework. 3 LONG assignments per week (200 Questions learnsmart). Week before midterm, assigned 4 complex assignments. Group project (hard grader). NO study guide or ANYTHING for the midterm. She wants you to fail and its impossible to get an A for this class. DO NOT TAKE HER
She is a funny teacher and cares about students. She also is easier to talk with and gives a lot of extra credit. Not hard in the exam and not much homework. You will definitely do well in her class.
She is great and is a very knowledgeable professor. She also makes lectures very interesting. Not much homework. You also can get extra credit in the class. The exam is not hard.
She is very knowledgeable, however she is too strict, lots of hw (complex hw that requires at least 3-4 hrs to complete each), and no notes allowed for exams. This class is already hard, so much theory and practice, but she makes it harder and stressful. Personally, as a returning student I am disappointed and rethinking my major. Shame.
Too much.. The load of hw is HUUUGE ! Even on the week of a midterm, she will give you a lot of hw. Way too strict especially with all this covid thing. I understand it shouldnt be an excuse, but still not worth it. If you have a chance to pick another, this is your sign. If you decide to take, be prepared to have 3-4 hours just for the class. GLK
This professor is the worse professor at SJSU. She doesn't teach at all! You learn from reading the book and doing the hw assignment. Doesn't prepare you for the exam AT ALL, no study guide nor tell students what to focus on for the exam. Exam was super long and difficult, nothing like the homework assignments.
I would rate this professor a 0 star if I could... I've never written a bad review, but this prof is worst prof at sjsu. She doesn't know how to teach, but has super high expectations. The exam was long and tedious and there isn't even enough time for you to complete everything. Exam was nothing like the hw... literally the whole class failed...
This class is one of the hardest I've ever taken. I understand that the information suppose to be hard, but with this professor, you won't learn anything. Why? Because she doesn't teach at all and looks like doesn't know how to teach either.
DO NOT take this professor if you want to learn! She doesn't know how to teach at all... she barely lectures during class. You gotta self-learn everything and read the book. Her exam was ridiculously hard, nothing like the hw... No notes, no study guide... if you ask her what to study for, she'll tell you to study everything
Professor Lazerson is knowledgable in accounting, however, she isn't the best at teaching. We are expected to read the textbook ourselves and learn on our own and accounting is already difficult to grasp. She doesn't prepare us for exams and expects us to know and study all material on our own. Hard grader, hard exams, overall wouldn't recommend
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This is the worst class I have ever took. She doesnt provide any information about the exam and expects you to know everything without teaching it. During midterm week she gave 3 long assignments. The exam was full of income statements and balance sheets and only gave us an hour and half to complete. Terrible.
If you don't wanna spend hours studying just to fail the exam, then don't take this class. The professor doesn't know how to teach at all. just imagine, 8 financial statements, and 30 something mc (not just simple conceptual probs, but require critical thinking and calculations) in an hr 30 min... Also, the exam was nothing like the hw...
She is awful and wont teach at all. Too much homework. No extra credit in the class. The exam is extremely hard. Pick a different professor
She isn't very funny teacher and doesn't care about students. She is impossible to talk with and doesn't give any extra credit. exam extremely hard and too much homework. You will definitely fail her class.
She is not very good and isn't the greatest at teaching to be honest. There is an incredible amount of homework involved. Which is disappointing considering she has very little leniency towards her students. The exam is extremely hard. If she shows you any leniency, she will be patronizing about it. literally anyone else would be a better teacher
DON'T take this professor even if you don't have a choice! You will regret it.. coming from someone that spent 20+ hrs studying for her exam. You'll end up wanting to drop the class... and it's not worth getting a W for this class.
Um.. she is literally the worst professor ive ever had. This is already a difficult class, but she makes it harder. She cant teach. The material she teaches isnt similar to what she teaches us. 20 hours of hw a week. No study guide. No help. Yet she has high expectations. DONT TAKE HER. No extra credit help, no compassion. Were all struggling
This prof cant teach and honestly she probably doesnt know how to. Not approachable at all... her exam was unreasonably difficult and she doesnt curve at all. A student tried to voice their opinion in a discussion post, which she later ended up disabling the whole class discussion tab..
Worst instructor ever. Does not know how to teach. Continuously reiterates how much she cares for her students but FAILS to teach and support them, no study guide for exam. She says to focus on hw to study but exam was nothing like hw. Homework takes HOURS. She expects the best but doesnt GIVE the best to her students. AVOID AVOID AVOID HER
Im a 4.0 student and this will be the class to end my straight A streak since she makes the exams extra hard (and admits to it). Our classwork, homework, and assignments are not helpful for the exam. On top of that, she doesnt prepare you with a study guide at all. Lectures arent her lecturing just us working together. Please take anyone else
DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER! She's the worst teacher I've encountered in my entire life... be prepare to self-learn everything, and then still end up failing the exam. She doesn't curve at all. she'll act like she's so understanding, but she really isn't... AVOID, AVOID, AVOID
If you see this, then this is a SIGN to not take this instructor no matter what the circumstance is. Ive taken fin acc before so I know what it takes to be a good professor, but this instructor has none of those qualities. She acts like she cares... but she really doesnt.
She is literally the worst professor I have ever had. This is already a hard class, but she makes it even more difficult. She decides to not teach. The material in the exam isnt similar to what she teaches us. 25 + hours of hw a week. No study guide. No help. How does SJSU allow new teachers with this kind of attitude?
She is the worst professor at this university. She thinks she's funny, yet nobody agrees. She's extremely disrespectful and condescending and has no regards towards the difficulties surrounding this year. She doesn't respond to her e-mails. I regret taking this class with every ounce of my being. Don't take her. Even if you don't have a choice.
Midterm 2 is coming. No notes/study guide/cheat sheet. Class is extremely hard especially With everything going on in the world, she is making it impossible to get an A in this class. Not at all understanding about the situation students are in. Does not respond to emails after ending class with email me if you need help Worst instructor ever
Dont take her!!! Other instructors are allowing cheat sheet/open notes because they care about their students learning concepts and applying them not memorizing them. She does NOT allow cheat sheet or notes or provide a study guide i agree with the other reviews. You wont get an a in this class
Don't expect to get anything higher than a B for this class, speaking from a straight A's student. Even if you do try and do all the work, your grade isn't going to reflect that. Hw and class participation barely matter because a huge chunk of your grade comes from the 4 exams and 3 case studies. She's a tough grader, most people got C's on that.
professor lazerson is relatively but has improved a lot since the beginning actually. lots of examples during class which helps for hw but still have to self learn a bit. she changed the format for hw and exams which makes it so much more tolerable and gives ec! kinda hard grader for mini cases but overall she can be a hit or miss
I wish I could take Professor Lazerson for all my accounting classes. She took her time to adjust the class to best help everyone and her teaching style is very interactive. She is very willing to help and hear you out and very professional. Definitely take her class if you have the chance! One of the best teachers I've had!
Ngl professor lazerson is a lot better than she used to be during the beginning of the semester. Exams are fair ( 20 mc and 4 big problems). If you study from the lecture examples and review the hw then you will be fine. If you want an A, then you might need to self study a bit. Overall, a solid choice for inter accounting.
Class lectures is going over problems, actual lectures you have to watch on your own time. 3 mini case group projects that are helpful in learning accounting codifications. Tests are on the difficult side so make sure to study. Homework is smartbooks and assignments which are time consuming. Not a bad experience, would be better in person.
Not a bad choice for intermediate. Class time is going over many examples and practicing different concepts, she also posts lecture videos you watch on your own time. homework is manageable and tests can be hard if you dont practice and review. 3 mini cases which are annoying, but useful. she gives a decent amount of ec as well!
All of the one stars in the beginning were just because people were mad at her for making the first midterm way to hard not enough time to complete, but ever since then, she's a lot better! You do have to read the book yourself before each class cause she just does examples during class time. 3 exams, 1 final, 3 mini cases. Overall i would take her
Really good professor who cares about her students. The previous reviews were regarding how she had too many problems and most of us were not able to finish resulting in bad grade. She realized the mistake she made and gave us extra credit to make up for it. She does replace your lowest exam score with the final! You will get an A if u do the work.
The first exam was a nightmare tbh. However the class spoke up and gave respectful feedback to which she acknowledged. I have to give laserson props for listening and redesigning her exams to be more fair. They were still tough and you needed to study but nothing that any person serious about a CPA should be worried about. Her jokes were good.
Previous reviews regarded midterm 1 being way too lengthy and hard to complete on time, but professor lazerson sent out a survey on what she could do better on/improve the class and acted upon it very well. Exams are still tough, but waaay more manageable. Lots of in class examples as well. Overall, I would take her again, i really enjoyed it!
She's a good listener (after 5 weeks in) & her lectures are great tools to complete HW & to study for exams. lectures are fun & you'll learn a lot. Extra credit is to attend conferences (for me, most conflicted w/ other classes) The 3 group mini-cases can be hard, long, & difficult if don't have the right people or clear feedback from Dr. Lazerson
Knowledgeable, strict but caring. Offers office hours. Class consists of in class problems no lecture or PowerPoint. Exams can be tough but nothing out of the ordinary. Focuses a lot on journal entries! Extra credit available. Homework is long but the quizzes are easy you get full credit regardless of correctness.
Underrated Professor. 3 Midterms (45%) 1 final (20%) 20M/C with 4-5 working problems. No study guide, but gives awesome test memos, Master them for an A. That said, tests are challenging (lockdown browser/no notes.), so studying/practicing is required. Brings lots of guest speakers, and class is going over practice problems, no lecture. Take her.
Stickler at grading. Hard , lengthy hw worth very little points. Exams are tricky, no study guide or notes, lockdown browser. Mini Case are easy. No lecture or PowerPoint only goes over practice problems in class. Avoid her if you can. Attendance matters for participation points.
Very inconsiderate and demeaning professor. Will make invalidating comments to you if you try to ask for help, expects you to know everything. Doesn't give any direction of what to study for on exams. Rarely will reply to emails and not give her full attention to students when they come for extra help.
Doesn't teach any of the concepts. She only goes over problems in class and wants you to be able to copy it down. Doesn't explain and just expects students to understand. Better off taking a different teach if you actually want to learn.
Basically a self study class, doesn't give much help when you come to her. Just avoid overall
Abysmal ratings are unwarranted: Pleasant and kind, and emphasizes testable questions. However, no exam notes are allowed and are comprised of few problems, which can be really good, or really bad. EC is scarce. Lectures center around workable problems, but must read on your own for understanding. Good grades achievable if approached correctly.
She has definitely listened to feedback and made exams much fairer. Make sure to attend class to receive credit and work through the in-class problems, which will be similar to the ones on the exam. Very easy to obtain a passing grade if you study up on those in-class problems and the multiple-choice practice quizzes she posts on canvas.
still one of the most rude and worst teachers I've taken in my whole college experience.
Definitely cares and is open to feedback. While the exams are tough (concepts are harder than INT 1), she provides yellow sheets which are in class assignments to go over the major topics that will be on exams along with practice M/C. Class is working through HW problems and you will need to study them since some appear on exams. Overall solid.
I found that the method to pass Dr. Lazerson's class was to really study her lecture notes in which she does the problems with the class. The minicases weren't bad, homework was fairly easy as well. I don't think the class was overall hard if you really just practice her problems from lecture before tests, you're guaranteed to do well.
Her lecture is basically going through example problems which I found very helpful as they are very similar to the ones on the Exam. The low rating on this site got me really worried before taking the class but it turned out to be great after a while. Her teaching style fits greatly with my learning style and I did decently in the class.
I was scared to take Dr. Lazerson after reading through prior reviews however, I had a very pleasant experience taking her class. Her lectures are very clear and straightforward, she breaks down complex topics to a form that's understandable. Study the in-class exercises she gives for credit and you will do very well on exams.
Shes not bad just kinda strict. No makeups/extensions for exams, HW, in class activities, or anything else(drops the lowest exam/HW grade tho). For exams, no cheat sheets, study guides, curving, or even viewing missed questions after. I really like her teaching style tho of quickly going over an outline for the ch. and then working on problems
Dr. Lazerson was a solid professor, and I learned a lot by taking 121A with her. Reviewing the outlines and in class problems that she goes over in class will help you immensely on the exams. Also, make sure you carefully follow instructions on the exams because it could make or break your score. And do all the extra credit - you won't regret it!
A self-study course that requires you to be in-person for credit. Her teaching is to use an example that is either on it or not on homework and exams. Speaks in a monotone voice which makes it uninteresting and awkward. Can't check what problems you get wrong on exams because it's randomized, and only available during office hours. Unsatisfying.
Dr Lazerson is great! She is very clear on should and shouldn't be studied and does her best to insure we learn as much as we can. Offers some extra credit
The pacing of her class makes the material easy to follow and understand. She also goes back for people who are behind. The tests are fair and the assignments should not be a problem. I would 10/10 recommend
THE BEST for 121A (and B). Allows one single-sided note page on her exams, extra credit for attending events, doesn't waste time on PowerPoint. Read, do the HW, go to class, you'll def pass (and with more than a C). Its a hard subject but she makes it so easy to understand and always rexplains if needed. IDK how she has such a low score on RPM.
A pretty decent teacher who cares about her students. Her class is pretty exam heavy and some semesters she doesn't do cheat sheets, my class got lucky so our grades are better. Even without it she does very thoroughly outline what will be on the exam so as long as you try you should be good. Intermediate accounting is still kinda hard so good luck
Doesn't care about students. Exams difficult and she doesn't prepare you. Avoid at all costs
One of the best profs I've had. She does a great job teaching the concepts and helping get everyone on the same page. It's not an easy course, and you're expected to carry your weight and speak up when you need help or have Q's. Lot's of students here are just finding out more is expected from you in upper div classes. True the grade is exam heavy.
Insanely test heavy. 700 of the 1000 points in the class were exams. The professor does not excuse missing an exam, regardless of the situation. One of my relatives passed from a car accident, and I couldn't even grieve because she forced me to take the exam or else I fail. My mental health has deteriorated, and discourage those that take the class.
Dr. Lazerson is a fantastic lecturer and will drill down concepts for you effectively. Group projects facilitated critical thinking and exams are straight-forward. The only thing lacking is her compassion, don't take her class if you're expecting difficulties in the coming future. A relative passed away and there were no alternatives for the exam.
Dr Lazerson is a great professor. Her lectures cover about 80% of exam material, including all working problems. Some tested material is a bit more niche and comes from the textbook. She drops the lowest exam grade, which makes it a lot easier to do better overall. This was a generally enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend taking her.
Tests were horrible, studying the provided material did not help very much. She was very unforgiving and graded extremely harshly.
This professor does not care about her students. Lectures have nothing to do with material on the tests, Homework and textbook chapters are also not particularly present on the tests. She will use material that is not covered in the course and expect you to have full knowledge on it.
Lazerson is a very unforgiving and heartless professor. Will take days to reply to emails sometimes not replying at all. Office hours are almost impossible to get into and the professor fails to explain homework problems that she herself assigns.
Was able to barely pass the class after the final dropped my grade almost 10%. She does not prepare you well for tests at all.
This aint class aint it, go with a different professor if you can.
Trust the rate my Professor reviews. She does not care about her students and seems like she failed many students. Do not take her class. I never thought I would fail a class until I took hers.
Everything is acceptable until there is the exam memo, not very clearly stated what to focus on the exam, and she does not allow to review the exam answer if you didn't go to her office hours. Besides that, everything in her class is ok.
Barely passed and stressed for the final since accounting majors needed a b and up to pass. make sure to fill up your cheat sheet in order to do well on the exams!
Teaching style very conceptual and organized. Lectures consist of example problems, and she goes slow when explaining and answering questions. Her exams are accurate to the in-class problems, just reperform them to study. Highly recommend, and the bad reviews on here are likely from people with short attention spans or poor listening skills.
Great teacher. Read the textbook beforehand and you'll be fine. All of the problems done in class are reflected in the tests and you can drop a midterm if you flunk one. Just make sure to read and this class not that hard.
Professor Lazerson is a great professor. If you dislike her, then you probably just don't like putting in the work. This professor is tough but prepares you so just do the work and STUDY!!!!!
She's a great professor, easy going and chill. Grades pretty tough on the minicase but the rest of the class is clear and straight forward. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't go, you need to self teach, period. If you think the workload/discipline for this class is too much, buckle up for 121B...
What makes her a great professor is how well she structures her lectures and goes over several practice problems for each chapter. Very straightforward with expectations on the mini cases so don't slack off. She wants you to exceed but you also have to be willing to do the work, don't expect to be just given a good grade.
kinda favors some students when lecturing, it's kinda like she's only talking to 1 group of students, goes really fast, self teaching typa class, difficult to learn in class
Lazerson is a reasonable professor: she drops an exam + allows a one-sided cheat sheet for exams (both sides for the final). You can ask her anytime for further clarification on problems, too. Attendance is taken some weeks but you should attend regardless. Group projects can be a hit or miss depending on who you're randomly grouped with.
TBH, lecutres r fill in the blank docs w/ lack of in depth understanding. doesnt teach, just reads the doc. Inclass working problems r done expecting you to know the info. YOU HAVE TO READ if u want to understand tests/homework. No exam reviews. FYI 10 min office hr appts. Exam is lockdown bowser w/ cam & in class. cheat sheet depends on the sem.
Lazerson was way better than I expected from RMP reviews! Seems strict but she's really nice if you actually talk to her. Read textbook before class, during class she goes over an outline then guides you through working problems. 1 cheat sheet for exams and they're pretty much the same as the in-class exercises. Tough grader on group projects.
Just focus in class and read your book.
She's alright (better than I expected from the reviews). I didn't find her lectures much helpful because she just went over the answers for class exercises. I mostly studied using the mcgraw hill slides that she provided in the module instead of reading the book. Didn't provide much practice for exams but exams were doable. Allowed cheat sheet.
Took her for two classes. She's not easy, but her grading criteria are clear. Exams are heavy, but that's expected for intermediate accounting series. I recommend attending regularly because sometimes she gives in-class points or extra credit. Overall, a good professor if you're willing to put in the work.
Professor Lazerson is a great professor. Yes, the class is definitely rigorous but that comes with upper division classes. She is very helpful with questions and ensuring you understand the content. Participate in class, read the textbook, and you'll do great.
Expect the difficulty of any upper division concentration class, but the professor does a great job in providing lecture outlines/practice problems which are aligned with the exams. There are group projects; success can really depend on your group. Would highly recommend attending class to understand the material better and for random extra credit!
Prof. Lazerson teaches the content well. She spends a few minutes on the theory aspect, and most of the learning happens through doing accounting problems in class. She values participation and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. Although attendance is not mandatory, it is encouraged.
The course is hard but Prof Lazerson makes it engaging. Lecture is mostly practice problems (similar to exams problems). If you come to class, ask qs, do Smartbook -- the exams are o.k. (study w/ in-class examples + textbook readings). There was a "we are in this pain together" vibe to the class. She's a straight up and rlly kind person
Professor Lazerson's class is challenging, but if you put in the work, you'll do well. Her exams are straightforward and directly reflect the practice problems she covers in class. She allows a cheat sheet on exams and drops the lowest midterm grade. She is also incredibly helpful if you ask questions, and makes sure you understand the concepts.
Good professor, may be a little intimidating at first but thats just the environment of accounting you'll be fine. Weekly assignments, allows cheat sheets and drops an exam, her lectures go over what is going to be on the exam .I was intimidated by her rating too but its just students who weren't paying attention in class and needed a wake up call.
Intimidating at first, loosened up later on. Extremely hard class, but considering this is a weed out class she does her best to make sure you undestand the material. Try to make it to class and don't slack off, she does problems in class that you'll see on the exam. There is no study guide per se, just a memo that says what concept will be there.
Don't be intimidated by the low ratings! Genuinely one of my favorite professors at SJSU. The class content is meant to be difficult, but just read the textbook before class and pay attention during in-class problems. She also jokes around more in 121B as everyone knows each other already. 3 midterms (lowest dropped), 2 group projects, final exam.
Very organized lectures and consistent struture through the semester.
