she nice! i like!
Danielle is passionate and informative. Despite this being the first class that she has acted as both professor and TA, she has done a fantastic job at making all the information very clear. She is obviously interested in the subject and is very approachable if you have questions. Highly recommended!
Danielle's helpful when needed. She picks on random students during lecture. Too many movies shown in her class. And you have to know details for the exams...I don't think those movies did a good job of explaining curriculum, they were more supplementary to the textbook.
She's helpful if you ask for the help, but you have to go by her schedule even if you can't. She talks really fast so you must either bring a laptop or be able to writ REALLY fast. Lectures=presentations and powerpoint= too LONG. Midterms were kind of hard, too many movies wasted a lot of time she could've used to lecture. Do not recommend her at al
Daniele was available to help when needed. Showed lotsa movies - made class more fun. Easy marker in tutorial but exams were tougher.
She is a helpful and approachable professor, but her exams were more on the difficult side. There were WAY too many movies shown in class, and you have to remember specifics about the movies on the 2 in-class midterms. You have to read the whole textbook in order to do good in the class and it is a lot of memorization.
CRIM 241 material is interesting and Danielle teaches it very well. Efforts are needed to do well in this course. Textbook is important as well as her lecture notes. Her exams are fair and easy to work with. She is extremely easy going and is willing to help you out when you need.
A real life Barbie in the Crim Department. Very passionate about teaching, approachable and helpful. PowerPoint delivery of course materials, informative. Grades are fair, exams are reasonable.
Very interesting instructor. She's very involved in the subject and brings in numerous guest speakers to make the subject matter more interesting & relevant. I'd take another class with her for sure.
Danielle is a really sweet professor! She acted great as a professor AND a TA! Very passionate and dedicated prof! She brought in excellent guest speakers and took us on great field trips! If you're looking for a fun class to take, I highly recommend this class. Probably one of the most memorable classes I've taken at SFU!
Danielle truly cares about her students. On the other hand, that passion often leads to frustration when students don't know something and she gets moody.
excellent TA! she's so nice, helpful and replies to e-mails fast. she does talk really fast in tutorials & i can imagine her talking quickly during her lectures too. she expects a lot on her exams, so this class is not a slacker class. must attend all classes & PAY ATTENTION during movies, seriously. you MUST remember specific things in the films
Overall great TA! Marks fair even though the Prof's exam was really hard (he wrote unfair questions about films). Makes herself available to help, replies to emails and cares about her students and there learning - makes it fun. Taking the class she teaches next term.
Terrific TA! Extremely helpful with all questions relating to material and lectures. Also, tried to help students as best as possible to do well on exams, as the exams were extremely unrelated to textbook and lectures (study films and articles, or prepare to fail (prof. griffiths). She was also a blast on the prison trips!
excellent TA, would definitely recommend & take another class with her if i had the chance. she's friendly, approachable & easy to talk to. attendance is mandatory & always participate, its a huge chunk of your grade. she marks fairly but you still need to study a decent amount of material. she'll prep you for it so there will be no surprises
She is an amazing prof that will go above and beyond to help you. She cares about here students and the class has a field trip to a few different prisons (your choice)! Her midterm was fairly difficult but her final was not. She has a lot of marks allocated towards participation so if you do not like to participate then I would avoid this class.
She is amazing!! so clear with what she expects of us, there was no paper in this class, so the mid-term and final were worth 40% each, but an A is totally achievable. She tells you what is important in her lectures, and since she wrote the textbook she explains it really well. Do the ch. review questions they are on the exams!!!
Awesome prof!! Really helpful, really clear with concepts, really clear with what she wants on exam. No papers. Exam was extremely fair. She is also very beautiful!! Overall very approachable and very very friendly to students.
Danielle has guest speakers, is very clear on her expectations for exams and tutorials, and is a fair marker. You can tell her philosophy is to try and give marks rather than find reasons to take them away. She's very friendly and approachable too, not to mention very pretty!
She is super nice and invites quite a few guest lecturers. She talks quite fast but exams fairly straightforward. The prison trips are quite interesting too
Fantastic prof! Genuine, approachable and engaged, Danielle wants all of her students to succeed and values the opinions of her students. Her classes are interactive and engaging as she invites guest lecturers and takes the class on prison trips to really get a broad view of corrections in Canada. Super cute and will be missed.
Great teacher. So knoweldgeable about Corrections Service Canada (CSC). All readings were articles about Corrections. You must attended classes to get your participation marks. Exams were fair. For paper, she's looking for critical thinking, and how its related to articles, guest speakers, etc. Danielle. You will be missed.
Excellent prof. Clear expectations, is passionate about the subject, and made great and much appreciated efforts to keep her classes dynamic. Field trips, guest speakers, and lots of class participation. I learned so much in her class and truly enjoyed it, I'm sad she's moved and I won't have the opportunity to take more classes from her!
Great prof, loves the subject and that made it interesting for the class. Midterm, paper and presentation. Also, 20% participation which pretty much made attendance mandatory, but classes had great discussions which made it worthwhile.
Amazing prof very clear and tests are basically right off the lecture
Danielle is absolutely amazing. The expectations are so clear and she takes you on a tour of a few institutions which was an awesome experience. Lots of guest speakers too. TA was amazing. Best class at SFU!
Danielle is great, and I will take as many classes with her as I can in the future. She is clear, fair, and very helpful. She also does a good job of making the course interesting by having guest speakers and telling stories from her experiences. The institution tours were also really cool. I highly recommend her class!
Danielle is a FANTASTIC professor. She is one of the only professors that I have had that actually teaches - and is good at it. She gives you everything you need to succeed - take advantage of it. She is very clear in her expectations and when she explains course material (which she is very passionate about!) and is a very kind person. Recommend.
Outstanding prof. You can really see that she cares and has a passion for what she does. Extremely organised with her preparations for lecture. She goes out of her way to bring guest lecturers to class and to organise trips to tour prisons which is rare for anyone to do in Canada. Very clear on what is expected on tests. One of the best crim profs
Great prof
One of the best profs I've had at SFU! Take her if you get the chance!!
Danielle is honestly the best prof to explain what she expects for the midterm and final. And to top it of, she is really sweet and is very open to help you. the prison tour was a bonus! It was a great experience. if you get the chance, take the class with her, its a GPA booster!!
Danielle's lectures are super easy and helpful. She brings in guest lecturers to help us understand the concepts. There is a group presentation but it is graded fairly as was the exam. So long as you study the exam won't take you by surprise.
Best prof so far, good material, enjoyable lectures, very approachable for questions. Exams are average, just study and keep up with textbook readings. Heard the prison tour was a good experience. 1 Group (2-3 people) presentation on a 'controversial' topic in crim. 5 page paper. Guest lecturers were interesting. 100% recommend!!
Amazing class! very fair marker. Lectures are interesting and are based on class discussion. Would recommend this class to anyone, even if they are not interested in corrections.
Best prof I've had at SFU so far. She is very clear and fair on guidelines - follow them and you will do well. Danielle is also very helpful and will find time to assist you in anything that you don't understand. I would highly recommend taking any class with Danielle, as she truly cares about her students!
She is very helpful and does her best to stimulate class discussions during lecture. She also brings in guest lecturers to better explain the job of correction professions. Exam outlines are provided the week before the exam to help with studying. Exams are a combination of mc, t/f, and sa.
Literally made an account just to rate her. Best crim prof at SFU! She cares about her students succeeding not only in the course, but in their careers going forward. Very clear in her lecturing style and of what she expects. Approachable and always encourages folks to ask for help. Definitely recommend any class with her!
Best prof at SFU. Super caring and wants to see her students do well, would highly recommend her. Her exams are average, doesn't post lecture slides online so its important to show up.
No one can dislike Danielle. She's passionate, caring, approachable and gorgeous. Could be the best prof in sfu
Her lecture slides are amazing, her teaching style makes content interesting, she's so approachable, and so nice. Her exams came from her lectures and from the textbook, so as long as you study with both, you're good. Her guidelines are so clear and her marking is fair. Would definitely love to have her as my prof again.
Honestly, Danielle Murdoch is one of the best profs I have ever had. She is always there for her students when they need help. Her tests are fair and if you study and read over course materials you will be fine.
Taking this class with Danielle was incredible! No matter how dry the material is she finds a way to make it interesting. I loved every second of this class, a class I was excited to go to every week. You should definitely focus on participating in class, commenting on one or two things a week is not going to cut it. Class with Danielle is a must!
Clearly very passionate about the things that were discussed during lecture and a fair grader. She was very accessible outside of class and cared for her students and always ready to answer questions.
Danielle is one of my favorites - she is hilarious, passionate, and truly cares for her students. She is so accessible outside of lectures, and I'd recommend going to her office hours if concepts are unclear cause she's great at explaining things. The prison tour was so cool definitely go if you get the chance.
Danielle is a great criminology professor. She is very clear in her instructions for the book report and what she is looking for. Discussion posts and quizzes can be annoying but important if you are striving for a good grade.
She is very clear with the exams and what she wants on the term paper. You have to study a lot to prepare for the exams because she does pull on small details. If you take this class you have to have time for it. Great lectures and very caring about her students' success.
One of my favourite prof at SFU. She genuinely cares about her students succeeding and learning. After we switched to remote tutorials because of Covid-19 she was so helpful and organized. Her lectures are all well planned and actually help you. Her assignments and tests were all graded fairly and her the questions were never meant to trick you
AMAZING PROFESSOR! I had her before and she is the same amazing, caring, inspiring professor. I took this class online, and the course was very well organized on Canvas with weekly modules and 3 discussions in addition to midterm and final. Dr. Murdoch responded very well to the COVID pandemic and was always available to respond to questions.
Danielle is one of the best profs I have had at SFU. Her lectures are interesting, easy to follow and you can tell she really cares about her students. She is very clear with what she expects students to know for exams and is accessible both in person and through email if you need any extra help. I highly recommend taking CRIM 213 with her.
She is bar far the best prof ever at SFU. Took 131 and 213 crim classes with her and she made understanding material super easy. Most caring prof ever.
Overall good prof, would definitley take her class again.
Dr. Murdoch is an amazing professor and an inspirational figure. She is great at lecturing and very passionate about her work. She cares about every student in her class and goes above and beyond her duties to help students achieve a higher education. She puts a lot of work in organizing prison tours, which is a treat! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Really caring professor who genuinely wants students to succeed! She provides many external resources to help clarify confusing topics. The course had quite a bit of weekly readings or viewings which were sometimes hard to keep up with, but other than that a really interesting course and great professor!
Thoroughly enjoyed her class and her teachings. The course content was a bit heavy at times, but she was there to answer any questions and combat confusion. Definitely need to keep up with the class as there are lots of weekly quizzes, but all very short with few and easy questions. Was very clear about grading criteria. Enjoyed her class lots.
Danielle is a great prof! The only downside is her course contains a group project worth a heavy percentage of your grade, and in my experience, group projects are not the best. So if there is a group project in the syllabus, I would avoid taking the course, as there is always the likelihood of poor peers. Other than that, great course!
Although this class was entirely remote, I still found the content engaging and was able to stay motivated throughout the term. Weekly quizzes invite students to keep up with their readings. My only quarrel is that I found the weekly quizzes to be based heavily on the textbook readings, with less emphasis on the additional content she included.
Murdoch was an awesome prof! She was able to make online learning a fun experience and was also able to really build a classroom community. There was a variety of assignments to make class interesting and also a variety of different speakers, podcasts, readings, etc. Would definitely recommend a class with her.
Dr. Murdoch was one of the best professors that I've ever had at SFU. She truly cares about her students and their wellbeing, and she makes sure to check-in with her students frequently throughout the semester. Grading was clear and fair. Assignments were fun as they weren't all traditional papers. I would recommend taking Dr. Murdoch's class 100%.
I loved dr. Murdoch, she really cares about her students and really knows her stuff. her lectures are really clear and easy to follow. if you have the chance def take her class!! <3
Idk what the hype is about this prof. She is very nice, but for an online class, she assigns way too many readings, even more than my in-person 2nd-year courses. She is also vague when answering questions. However she is approachable, but out of touch. Maybe she's better in person but I will not be doing an online class with her again.
Her classes are very informative and allows you to think critically without making it feel like a burden. She thoroughly answers all your questions and is very approachable. I didn't know if I would enjoy the class but it ended up being one of my favourites!
Pros - 4 free tutorials skips. Get a 1% boost for just emailing her explaining how you're doing in class. Interesting content. Very accommodating & kind Cons - Not enough time in exams. Half the class was still writing when time ran out, there was 3 essays, short answers & MC. Should've been enough time to review answer exams aren't remote anymore
amazing prof. she really does care about student's wellbeings and very accommodating and kind.
Dr. Murdoch is very sweet and accomodating. However, the midterm exam for the class was very unreasonable. We were given two hours for 25 m/c + 5 shorter/long answer questions. The class was scrambling to finish the exam by the end and the average was a C+. But she gives you a lot of opportunities to bump your mark up through fun assignments
She is a good prof. She is understanding, explains the concepts well, and is very nice. But her class is not an easy A. She is an extremely hard marker and she looks for specific details. It is an interesting course but the hard marking just makes it really draining.
I highly recommend taking as many classes with D. M as possible! She is caring and accommodating (especially during the pandemic). Weekly course content was interesting and often featured guest speakers with relevant experience in that week's topic. Grading is fair but you will have to work hard for an A.
Dr. Murdoch is an amazing professor! She is caring and understanding. The TA's are nice too! There are weekly quizzes and lectures are easy to understand. But, the exams require lots of studying, you have to memorize EVERYTHING from the lecture notes & ALL the key terms. The paper is easy and the rubric is clear. Great professor, highly recommend!!
This class had an amazing format and had many diverse components to keep you intrigued. All quizzes, papers and exams were reasonable and honestly helpful.
The teaching assistant marked harshly on papers, despite having perfect punctuation, spelling, grammar, and APA, and submitting my paper to a tutor for review still only received a C. Half the class was still writing the mid-term by the end of class? Classes are not online anymore!
I am happy I chose Dr. M's class. She is very inclusive and makes the lectures very interesting. the guest speaker are a cherry on top! The TA's were good as well. If you go to her student hours for help, she will guide you the best she can. I wish the weekly quizzes had the chapters from what they taught and not the the reader, otherwise great!!
One of the best profs at SFU! The layout of the course is clear and she makes the content interesting. Midterm exam wasn't that bad and assignments included 2 writing assignments and an infographic (very unique) and the criteria for each are detailed with lots of information. Dr. Murdoch is caring and genuinely wants everyone to do well.
Danielle was a super wonderful and kind professor, however the marking was so difficult. Averages were pretty low for every assignment/midterm and marks were docked multiple times for extremely small random things. The class was super interesting but the weekly reading that prepare you for the midterm were brutally long (total 15-50 pgs at times).
Dr. Murdoch really cares about her students' well-being and success in the class. Her lectures were engaging and covered all the key points from the textbook, and her exams provide students with the most possible opportunities to succeed and show their understanding. I didn't love the small group discussions during lectures, though.
Dr. M is so kind and delivers great lectures! She tries to get to know her students even in a big class. The grading in this course was more difficult than I expected though.
Dr. Murdoch is very kind and understanding, however in CRIM131 she has two textbooks. One is for exams/lectures and the other one is for weekly quizzes which you have to read on your own and her quiz questions have very similar worded options and is very hard. I do not recommend.
Professor Murdoch is very nice and clearly cares about students. She makes accommodations and gives extensions and offers support. One thing that annoyed me was in exams you'd get asked specific memorization questions (dates, percentages etc) which is a pretty poor way to show an actual understanding of the content. So yeah make sure you know that
I love Dr.Murdoch! She is so caring and explains the concepts in a way which is easy to comprehend. Her exams were really fair and you will have an idea of which major concepts will be on the exams. I had Abby as a TA and she is the best TA I've ever had! Quizzes are easy and online. Keep up with the lectures and readings and you will be good.
This professor is amazing and such an interactive and insightful class to take! Dr. Murdoch is thoughtful, quite a lot of readings per week, approx 40 pages from 2 different textbooks - one for the class and one for the tutorial quizzes. Assignments are super clear, you talk about socially relevant issues, midterms and finals are straightforward.
Honestly, she is the best Criminology prof I've ever had (and overall just one of the best profs I've had) - I took her CRIM 131 years ago, and she was very passionate about what she taught. I highly encourage people to take at least one course with her if you can. There is a lot of memorization and work, but her attitude makes the class enjoyable!
Dr. Murdoch is an amazing professor and how all undergrad profs should be!!! She is clear and thorough, and emphasizes equality, equity, and inclusivity. She makes her students feel heard and is open to feedback. Very accommodating and thoughtful. Textbook must be purchased through Top Hat website in order to access the mandatory reading quizzes.
Dr. Murdoch is an incredible professor who is immensely accommodating to students in regards to deadlines. Her group activities and creative projects motivated me to come to class every week and interact with others. She makes an effort to interact with every student and learn their names. Would absolutely recommend taking a class with Dr. Murdoch!
Dr. Murdoch is an amazing professor and it is clear she cares about her students. She creates a welcoming environment and gets students to engage in the lectures which makes understanding so much easier. Lovely class lovely lady 10/10 recommend her
Dr. Murdoch is one of the best profs I have ever experienced. They are extremely caring towards their students and their lectures are informative, engaging, and clear. If you've never taken a crim class before but are curious about the subject, absolutely take this class!
best prof i ever had in uni....
LOVED Dr. Murdoch! Best crim prof I've ever encountered. If you're debating taking this class with her, DO IT-- you won't regret it!
I cannot recommend Dr. Murdoch enough, especially if you are a first-year student! She is such a kind and inspirational human with loads of knowledge. Grading criteria were clear and exams were the right amount of challenging. The only prof I have had that actually enjoys teaching and helping her students - she has teaching awards to prove it!
Dr. Danielle Murdoch is the best prof I've ever had at SFU so far. She is super sweet and caring for her students. She wants everyone to achieve. I love it when she does fun activities in class. Raise your hand to contribute, just because she deserves it! 100% recommended.
GOAT professor at SFU. Lectures are done in a very different way, where there is more engagement. Lectures fly by so fast that it does not feel like a 2 hour lecture. Grading criteria is very clear, and Dr. Murdoch is very caring. If you ever have the chance to take a course with Dr. Murdoch, then do it!!! Also, you don't need to buy a textbook.
20% to participation/weekly online discussion and quiz. No final! Midterm was a little tough, mixed MC and short answers, but if u actually study u will be fine. The other assignments were super easy. Dr.M is solid, she gives lots of readings and videos, but I haven't done any of them and am doing just fine. Gives free 3 day extensions on asgmnts
Professor that really cares about her students & their success. Had 3h lectures for this course but she always made it interesting and engaging. Encouraged students to speak to one another and discuss topics to help add variety to learning. Made some great friends in this class. Course work exams and assignments are very fair.
FOR CRIM 304 : Amazing prof! I had her in first year and again now in 4th year. I will always take the class if she is teaching it. She is so sweet, caring and genuinely an amazing professor. Her lectures are always clear and I never leave the lecture confused. Absolute best CRIM professor, highly recommend.
this was for CRIM 304 - she was so amazing but her grading scale is intense. no final exam tho which is amazing!
She never posted the lecture slides, so good luck if you miss a few classes. Also, she asked for exact percentages on exams, so make sure you remember those. She explain things well though.
Dr. Murdoch is genuinely the most caring and amazing prof I've had at SFU. Her lectures are engaging, and she provides a LOT of guidance and support for all assignments and tests. The tests weren't hard as long as you know the material; she will only ask for specific statistics IF she puts them in the lecture. Very accommodating with extensions
CRIM 304* This prof is nice & tries her best to understand how stressful uni is. Considerably good prof and I would take her again. Specific version of textbook required. Lecture had in-class activities that counted for participation for your grade. HOWEVER, her exams were very deceiving. the 4 short answer part ended up being 8 pages of writing.
