This guy is cool. he tests you on the powerpoint, end of chapter questions and nothing else. exams are almost copies of the quizzes. he gives you an exam outline. Plus he gives bonus pts and grades on a curve for the "difficult tests. lab is a little harder but is easy if you attend lab & look over the notes. lots of fun. everyone should get an A
He is the best Anatomy professor!! He is very helpful and is always willing to explain the material if you are confused.
I wasn't looking forward to A&P, but having Dr. Laryea as a prof helped alot. A&P is not an easy subject & you must be willing to put in the effort to get a good grade. Test & quizzes are self explanatory, if you skim through the chp & study his PP notes & end of chp quiz. If you have questions he's always willing to help. I recommend him to anyone
Dr. Laryea was great. =] He really took an interest in helping us and went the extra mile if we didn't understand something. It was truly a great experience to have him as a professor.
Dr. Laryea was by far the best anatomy instructor I could imagine! He is extremely helpful and truly cares about his students experience. I would highly recommend him to any student who needs or wants to take one of his classes.
Prof is interested in helping the students who are trying hard in his class. Very personable. Make sure to attend every class, or have a good excuse. This is not the easiest class, but Prof makes it as fun as he can!
Great teacher!!!! I really enjoyed the class and would take him again if I needed anything else. I'm glad I lucked into his class.
Excellent teacher. Well liked, knowledgeable and respected. Made Anatomy & Physiology a fun class. Dr. Laryea is an example of what teaching means. Most professors become hard over the years and forget what "Being a Teacher, mentor and a role model really mean." Can't wait for AP II.
Very good teacher. Looking forward to A&P II with Dr. Laryea!
Dr. Laryea knows A&P and wants students do well in his class, soliciting feedback at times. He limits in-class questions due to a tight syllabus but takes time afterward or during office hours for anyone who needs more. If you have extreme difficulty with an accent he may not be for you, but he gets that and its good career prep listening to him.
Proffessor Layrea is one of the most caring and knowledgable teacher at PHCC. He trully wants you to succeed and made on of the hardest subjects a PHCC the most fun. IF your nervous about Anatomy and Phisology take him he will put your fears to ease.
Exceptional professor, goes the extra mile to make sure students comprehend text and class notes. Attendance is mandatory. I would also recommend this professor to any one who is apprehensive to take A&P.
If you are planning on going into the medical field, make sure you take A&P with this Professor. He is extremely intelligent and is willing to help students after class. Unfortunately, there was a very rude student in the class that I was in that became very distracting. If you want to actually learn, please take this Professor; but, if you don'
omg!! i m soo glad to have prof laryea as my anatomy instructor..he is very easy and caring person. if you wanna score easy A in class take his class :)
Dr. Laryea was a great professor. He lets you know what's important to learn and once you've taken the quizzes you can bet that's what's on the exam. So study your quizzes and you'll get A's on your exams. Very nice guy. Attendance is important and he gives extra credit for perfect attendance which can raise you a grade level.
Execelent professor. He is truly there to help you. What you see in the powerpoints is what you will get on the exams. He gives extra credit and sometimes extra points for attendance. I will definetely be taking him for A&P II
He is a very nice guy, but hard to understand with his accent. He does give a lot of EC, but his teaching skills are poor. He just reads off the powerpoint. English is not his first language, therefore his communication skills are not up to par. If you take his course, prepare on teaching yourself the material.
Very nice guy but horrible teacher. I don't know why he got great reviews. The reason I signed up was bc of the great reviews. I have to teach myself everything bc he goes SO fast and you cant understand his accent. He doesnt even make up his own PP, quiz's or exams which really bothers me. His test questions are confusing. I wouldnt take him again
Dr. Laryea is very hard to understand. The class i somewhat easy if you already know the basic in anatomy, thats because he reads directly off pp and does it so fast you have to go back and teach yourself. I'd reccomend Summers he's clear and explains everything in detail.
Uses pwrpt in lecture but says refer to book for test, NO: study guide,hw,help to understand a concept clearly, extra credit, review, never go over tests only see scantron w grade so u never know what you didn't understand right. Unprof. especially when a question is asked in class.Overall,self-taught class&he makes it more difficult than necessary
Had Mr. Laryea for A&P lab. I think he's a very smart man, but has a very hard time teaching the material. Won't take him again and wouldn't recommend. He is a good person, but not good at teaching.
Horrible Professor! His accent is so strong that you can't understand how of what he says. He is very rude. All he does is read his PowerPoints. MUST read the whole text book.
A&PI&II Hard to understand accent!!! If not in book then not on test Which doesn't say alot. Self taught class!!!!! Dont remeber one question answered clearly. Nice guy once he gets to know you. Very leniant on test and quiz taking. Will throw ?'s out when argued. Nice to take if a self taught student and can answer your own ?'s.
A&P is a hard class, lots of memorization, you have to put at least 2-3 hours of work a day to do well. Dr.Laryea is a very good professor, always listens to your concerns and tries to help. I would definitly recommend him. I didn't have any problems understanding him. Just listen and study.
Very nice guy,but not easy to understand. Reads from power points, and doesn't cover half of material on the test. You have to memorize the whole book to know some of the queations on the test. In lab, he is very unhelpful and can at times be very rude. I definitely will not take him for A&PII. Don't take him if new to anantomy.
hard to understand. he reads off of power points, VERY unorganized. wouldnt recommend to anyone to take his class. the good things about him is that he is lenient with test scores and a friendly. he doesnt like confrontation!!!
Professor Laryea is the one . I personally know of myself and five other students whom all made it into thier Limited seating programs immeadiately after taking his Ap1 and Ap2 classes. He will always be one of my most memorable professor from now till after graduate school. TAKE HIM!!
He is a good professor. With that said, yes, at times his accent does cause a problem which he usually clarifies as best as he can. The one thing I totally agree with him on is that some students in the class expect to be spoon fed information. How does this help anyone? Self motivation is beneficial to this class but it's more beneficial in life.
I was little nervous at fist to take him because of the negative things i have heard.. But so glad i did! He is a awesome teacher that really cares about his students grades.. All u have to do is study hard and apply youself. Easliy can get a A or B
I had this teacher for a and p 1 and he wasn't bad just hard to understand.
Dr. Laryea is an awesome instructor!! Yes, his accent can be hard to understand but after a few classes, you get used to it. He is so very intelligent and knows his stuff! He does a really great job at tying everything together so the students really understand the material. He really is a great instructor and I would recommend him to anyone!
I dont know why students have given a poor rating. He is a very good teacher that will do anythin he can to help you understand the material. If you attend class and do the work, no problem getting A. Maybe thats their problem.. Its not the type of class that you can just sit back in.
Awesome professor!!! So glad I took him. He will help you in any way possible. You have to pay attention and study. also very lenient..and I will repeat myself very lenient, on tests and quizzes. Really cares about his students. These people that gave negative reviews must have been idiots. I wish he was teaching micro
very good professor. He will help you in any way he can. this is a tough class and you can not just breeze through. A lot of work and study time but if you do that no problem getting a decent grade.
Great teacher, very knowledgable and wants students to succeed. Tests are difficult, must study a lot. He is a little hard to understand, but he clarifies. Lots of extra credit, very forgiving with grading. I will be taking him again. Don't be lazy in this class or you won't get a good grade.
coolest and sweetest teacher ever always helps his students pass. Really knows all the info, as long as you study the main stuff you'll get an A.
I have had Mrs. Hendrikson as a A&P teacher but she doesn't compare to Dr. Laryea! He has made A&P to where a dumb person can understand it, and if he notices you mess up one time on a test he will help you out by either retaking it whenever you want. all test and quizzes are from power points. Just study the definitions and you will be okay!
Professor Laryea was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He remembers your name very easily and loves students who cooperate in class. If you do not come to class, be prepared for him to ask you why you didnt show up in a joking manner the next class. He is great and I absolutely reccommend him for any student!
Dr. Laryea really cares about his students. He is hard to understand, but doesn't get offended if you ask what he said. His class isn't easy, however if you study and come to class you can get an A. He is very fair when it comes to grades. If you made an effort and came to class, he will work with you. I would definitely recommend him.
If you pay attention to the power point, take notes, and actually read and comprehend the text book at home you will pass this class with an A. I took it over the summer so all of the information was squeezed into half the time...
Good teacher!
For the love of God do not take this man... Not sure why everyone is scoring him high... You will not be able to understand him and he tests on material he doesn't cover NO NO NO
Dr. Daniyal Laryea is a good teacher. He sticks to the syllabus, cracks jokes in class, is very generous by giving bonus ?s, & as long as you behave treats you kindly & respectfully. He makes class interesting. Strong accent but spells out words if you don't understand him. Tells you what's gonna be on the test. Helped me w/my recommendation letter
Dr. Laryea is by far one of the best professors that I have ever had. Accent is difficult to understand at first. He makes class fun and has a good sense of humor. He is a teacher who cares about his students, he will help you to get an A if you come to class everyday and try your best to learn Anatomy. Tests are fair and also include extra credit.
A&P is a hard class that takes alot of focus. To help he gives bonus points. Dr. Laryea is an incredible teacher that has a unique personality. I find him super funny and light hearted. He has a strong accent, but is willing to spell things out when a word is misunderstood. He has alot of patience s for incredible rude and disruptive students.
Dr. Laryea is a great professor. He is extremely smart, and has a great sense of humor. It is not an easy class and he expects you to learn A&P not just get by. Get ready to put in some work I have an A in his lecture and class but it was not easy.
LOVE him!!!! I have taken both anatomy and physiology 1 & 2 (including the labs), AND microbiology with him. He's hilarious, an easier grader and ALWAYS provides extra credit for his students. Recommend him 150%, you won't regret it.
I have taken him for A&P 2 with lab and also microbio with lab and I have noticed a lot negative things about him. Dont try contacting him through email, he barrly replies. Grades things EXTREMELY LATE like stuff from the beginning of class not graded yet so if you were planning on dropping you wouldnt be able to cause you don't know your grade.
Took him for Anatomy 2 and microbiology. He's smart but doesn't teach well. Just reads from power point. Microbiology was terrible, graded things last day of class and does not email back. Lab tests were on nothing we covered in class and wouldn't allow you to see what you missed. Also very hard to understand his accent.
This class is a challenge in itself, however Dr. Laryea makes it even harder. He is very argumentative if you ask questions/ask for clarification. His class is very disorganized. His lab exams are not organized, you have to ask VERY pointed questions to get a straight answer. Take another professor.
He can be hard to understand. There were times I was lost during class because I couldn't understand him. There were a few things on the test that weren't in the book but make sure you read the book carefully because there are a lot of questions taken from it. His test can be pretty confusing. Overall I would not take him again.
an amazing professor and so smart! The more you get to know him, the more you will enjoy the class. He is very nice, and although he may be hard to understand SOMETIMES, if you follow along or just ask, he will clarify. Our class was basically off the powerpoint, which made studying easy. All in all hes great, he loves teaching, you can tell.
Very unorganized. You have to stay on top of the syllabus, get the work done and know it. Don't expect him to tell you when it's due, he doesn't know half the time. Grades late; we waited almost 3 wks for one lab exam grade. On the positive, he does give extra credit and wants you to pass. To sum it up, have your work done, be prepared, and study.
Unorganized, tests are not returned, didn't submit grades in timely manner, didn't follow disabilty accomodations, graded on a curve, witnessed students cheating, you will need to study 3 to 4 hours outside of class, read the book also, retaking a test was difficult to do, syllabus changed frequently, and always late starting class.
If you know anybody who has taken his class before it would be a really really good idea to ask them how to study for his quizzes and exams. Stay on top of your homework. Grades come in slowly. You do not get your exams back, just the grade (if that matters to you). On the plus side; he gives extra credit, on quizzes and exams. He is approachable.
Pay attention to every word he uses during lecture, that is if you can understand him!
I took his Human Biology class online and it was very, very dense in coursework but I feel as though it prepared me well for future science courses. Prepare to read like crazy. I've heard that his accent is really hard to understand, but since I took it online it didn't matter. Grades pretty slowly, but overall, do your work and you'll do fine.
Great instructor, very informative . Some students complain of his accent, but he speaks slow and will gladly repeat material. Microbiology is a tough class, if you do not put the effort in and read thoroughly, do not expect a passing grade in this course. Very fair with grading. Book is definitely needed, no study guides given. Would take again.
Took him for ap1,2 and microbiology. he is a great teacher, cares about his students and wants you to do well. If you attend all the classes and he sees you try, he will round up your final letter grade if you were close (ex - you got a 89.1) He won't spoon-feed you, he expects you to dedicate the time to succeed, as all professors should do
I took Professor Laryea for both A&P 1&2, lab and lecture. Be aware that if you take him for lecture he will test you on information learned in his lab and vice versa. I didn't actually ever use the lecture textbook and did fine. Another down fall is he more often than not gives you a grade lower than you received on MasteringA&P, BUT DO IT!!!
I took him for anatomy 1 and 2, and microbiology. You have to pay attention and class, do your homework, and read the textbook and you'll be fine. Don't expect to do the bare minimum and pass though. He's also very understanding.
A difficult class with lots of information. To make an A, I went to class, quizlet/flashcards, listened to other lectures on youtube (by Dr. Parker). One of the most interesting classes ever taken. truly enjoyed being in his class. Tests were hard, but he gives extra credit questions so you can still do well even if you feel you bombed. Liked him!
Miss class and you'll fall behind. Make sure to find as many resources as you can. I had him for A&P 1&2 with both labs and I had to not only use his slideshows and the textbook for help, but also online resources. He's funny but theres only 5 exams in the semester that are weighted heavily. Quizzes are once a week, not weighted heavily.
His lectures are just reading a PowerPoint. Basically paid him to teach myself.
Absolutely awful. Do NOT take his class. His tests are extremely difficult and if you ask a question he is really mean to you. Just reads from his powerpoint, was no point in ever coming to class tbh.
Great teacher! He really cares for his students. If you read the book or study your notes, you will pass. He takes the quizzes and exams right from the book and notes!!!
Such a fun online class! Easy "A". I highly recommend Dr. Laryea!!!
Took him for A+P 1 and now A+P 2. He doesn't just give you the answers. Read your notes and you will do just fine. Put in the effort and he will see you're trying.
Great teacher and an interesting class. Definitely pay attention!
Mr. Laryea is very funny and nice, but I felt that his lectures were pointless. Everything he went over in the PowerPoint presentations were not on the tests or quizzes. My advice is to go straight from the book if you want to pass. He does offer extra credit points which were very helpful in bringing my grade up.
Be prepared to teach yourself. Unorganized, doesn't grade timely and doesn't know the material.
Definitely a hard class and you have to work for it to get a good grade. Professor himself likes to tell funny stories and is nice. Yes he has an accent, but its not difficult. Basically just goes over the powerpoint. For lab, you are more on your own but very hands on. He will help guide you if you are lost. Fun procedures and good experience.
This online class is very challenging. Everything is straight out of the textbook and although it is an AMAZING textbook after you get used to the set up, its just the same exact assignments each week. However, there's a strict due date and impossible to reach the professor so if you miss something, odds are it is a 0 no questions asked.
I took this class online. If you want a teacher to respond to emails, then this isn't the teacher for you!!!! Time consuming, and mind numbing assignments.
Horrible. He doesn't actually teach, he just reads from a PowerPoint. If he happens to respond to your email about a question or concern, he doesn't actually address your concern and just blows you off with a simple "I'll look into it". Takes forever to input grades into canvas, and sometimes they are incorrect. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Prof. Laryea was an average professor. I currently am enrolled in his A&P1 Lab online at PHSC and all his assignments are to be emailed to him, and he almost never checks his emails. So getting your stuff graded on time is almost impossible. However, he is straight forward and very knowledgable. Tests are hard, so make sure you study.
I had Dr. Laryea for A&P lecture and lab. Due to covid, this was an online class. His lectures are mainly going over powerpoints. The exams are broken into a few chapters at a time. He is hard to get a hold of especially via email. He does know his stuff, but I recommend taking excellent notes, most exams are based off of the book.
Professor Laryea's class was an okay class, but I wouldn't take it again. He just reads off of powerpoints and doesn't check his emails often. Attendance was not mandatory but he took attendance everyday.
Anytime you ask a question you are answered with a, "Idk or maybe." Even when asking him about questions on the test or due dates. Or you get an unrelated response. When coming to him with frustrations about the class he told me to shut up without even letting me finish. Unorganized. 3 hour classes are just him reading the PPs. You teach yourself.
DON'T take his classes. Accent isn't even a problem. Unresponsive & just reads off of the power points. If there are any mistakes in the way his tests are set up, he won't do anything about it & will proceed to say that there's something wrong with your computer and not his tests. I could easily say I did NOT learn anything in this class. Terrible!
Dont take his classes. Was very hard to get ahold of, wouldnt follow through with anything you asked and was unwilling to help students with any problems. Blames any issues w/ his test or assignments on students technology. Very argumentative. He reads the PowerPoints during the entire lecture. Will not respond back to any emails or messages.
Don’t take any of his classes or YOU WILL FAIL. His lectures aren’t even lectures. YOU teach yourself everything. If you don’t do well on the exams you will fail. He doesn’t offer any extra credit and takes forever to reply to emails. It doesn’t matter how much you study, the tests are impossible to pass and so is the class.
Not sure why his rating isn't lower. I had to withdraw from his class for many diferrent reasons. He makes you sit in silence the entire zoom meeting and teach yourself the material. He never responds to emails either. Please avoid taking any classes with him, especially this one. Almost everyone in my class withdrew because we were all failing.
Lab with Professor Laryea was terrible. I don’t know how he’s certified to teach. I learned absolutely nothing from him. Please do yourself a favor a choose any other professor. This class is already hard enough and he made it even harder. Lots of labeling on exams. Exams definitely don’t correspond with what is “taught” in class.
I took him in the summer. Very difficult. Exams were not based on ppts, he uses the Pearson hw questions. So find a test bank for the book(studocs) or memorize quizlets. it was AFTER I found out that I got A's on exams/quizzes. Exams are proctored. Hes a nice man and offered 5% extra credit which boosted my grade. I would read the book fr.
Tests are weighed 75% so make sure you do well. Usually the exam questions are the same ones from the homework with some extra added in. i only wouldn't take him again because he was kind of disorganized and hard to understand. However, very flexible professor who let me make up exams and extended homework or quizes if you asked, very friendly
I have taken Laryea twice and I am glad that I no longer have to take him for another course! His grading system makes zero sense, along with never teaching us anything relevant to his exams and then telling us to "read the textbook" that he does not use nor read himself tbh. Also he is very hard to get ahold of :/
You spend time in lecture w/ him just reading off ppt, then nothing in the exam is from the ppt and he tells you to read the book and memorize 5 chapters for one exam w/out study outline. The exams are 75% of your overall grade so the quizzes and homework he gives do nothing to help your grade if you fall behind. Dont take if trying to save GPA
All of the quizzes and tests have typos. Some of them have multiple questions that are the exact same thing. Some of them have multiple of the same right answer and you have to message him to get him to fix it for you and it's a toss up if he fixes it or not. Unresponsive. Too much homework. Test questions are weighted poorly. Lazy teacher.
This professor is the complete opposite of online savy. Get ready for your inbox to be filled with a million "change due date" emails and the canvas gradebook does not match the syllabus nor the assignments selected for completion through the online textbook "MacMillan". Very short with email responses. lectures are boring as everrr. quizlet:yes.
Lectures are just textbook vocab powerpoints, No clear direction of what will be on closed book exams, no study guides. If you ask he just says "read the chapter" Tons of homework assignments that don't really even help your grade, or help you learn. Most of the due dates are out of order. This class is hard enough and he makes it much harder.
Class is lecture straight from the PowerPoint. The exams (75% of grade) do not reflect the lecture. If you are able to teach yourself from the textbook that is your best bet. Professor can be demeaning to students having difficulty. Only take this class if you have no other option. Only redeeming quality is 5% extra credit from a three page paper.
Whatever you do, do NOT take this professor. Unclear on what is on exams, is unaware of how to utilize canvas. Our class had to constantly bring things like assignment due dates being incorrect to his attention. HEAVY on homework, leaves no time to study and what to study? Was told to read the textbook for the exams. Tough on grading discussion too
Not a good professor. All of his lectures are literally reading from a power point in a monotone voice. Every now and then he will say "this is very important" and "make sure you review this in the textbook". The worst part of this class is the assignments. Homework can no joke add up to 25 long assignments per week that contribute very little.
I took Human Biology online and this guy was severely disorganized. Frequently throughout the semester he would just now start to create assignments not due for another month, and then put them in as a zero, so my grade often appeared as an F, which stressed me out, thinking I missed something. Also, his Canvas was HARD to navigate. Beware.
Professor Laryea's class was a bit hit-or-miss. While his lectures can be dry, the exams are tough and largely based on the textbook. Attending class and taking detailed notes are crucial. unstuck study was super helpful for quiz prep alongside the textbook.
Doesn't know how to work canvas or organize canvas, doesn't respond to emails, assigns random assignments on the textbook website, and leaves some assignments Ive done as a 0. This professor is so unorganized and made me so stressed. I cried for so long over this course and Im only a dual enrollment freshman...
Once you learn to navigate his class it's self explanatory. At least for the summer course, DON'T follow the to-do's in canvas. All Connect assignments will be in the assignments tab & will need to be turned in before the semester ends. For lab, make sure to read the PowerPoints before class to easily complete experiments. Overall great professor!
Lots of work and is a fairly difficult class. Pay attention to his lectures and read the PowerPoints. Use the Connect smartbooks to study it does wonders since the lecture exams are through Connect. Labs are fun and we're always doing experiments. Amazing Micro professor.
I wish I had listened to these reviews. I would ask him questions regarding certain procedures to ensure I was doing them correctly, and he would often yell at me and tell me to look in my "lab manual" in front of the class. Strong accent, good luck trying to reach him outside of class. Doesn't teach, just reads off a PowerPoint that's not his.
His classes were fairly easy once I figured out how he teaches, he's very gracious and willing to work with you and offers extra credit for both lab and lecture. He does have a strong accent but it was not difficult to understand for me. Overall I really liked his classes
He's a great person, nothing against his personality, he's got great vibes. However. This man reads DIRECTLY off of PPT slides, and he doesn't do a remotely good job explaining things. There is an extra credit paper you can write for +5% to your grade. Other than that, avoid this class at all costs if you don't like teaching yourself🩵
