I love Dr. Benbassat! He knows how to keep his students amused. He really knows what he is talking about and is enthusiastic to share it with his students. And, he is always interested in learning anything that his students have to teach him. Take Psych with him!
This guy was rated really well at his other school but I think that was because he taught completely differently. Has no idea what he is doing. I studied by butt off and did miserably. As someone used to A's and B+ in AP courses and college I was surprised at how terrible I did. Doesn't teach from the book and tries to trick you on tests. DONT TAKE
I don't know what that one guy is talking about. this professor knows NOTHING. everytime a student asked him a qs about psychology he would NEVER know the answer. He's terribly hard with tests and none of the material comes from the book. it made me absolute hate psychology.
I entered this class very excited to learn about psychology unfortunately this guy knows nothing. His lectures are boring and seem like they're from a class he taught previously. His test is reminiscent of the SAT there are often two correct answers in the multiple choice section but he only accepts one as the right answer. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
ha this guy is a dork, he tells you stories about his life which is kinda depressing but funny, the class isnt too bad you just need to attend the boring lectures to get the definitions of words he will put on the test, not the easiest psyc teacher but not the hardest
I don't know why this guy has such poor ratings. Obviously they didn't go to class. Okay, lecture is boring but once you get his notes and skim the book for the keywords in the study guides. Tries to spice it up with popular culture sound bytes in lecture. Pretty easy to do well. Nice guy, though may not answer specific q's that well.
Good class and an easy A if you study the terms on the study guide. It was my GPA booster. He loves his subject and powerpoints (sometimes too much). Although I don't agree with his grading system of no +/- grades, it went towards my benefit in the end (i.e. what should've been an A- turned into an A)
Well..he's not the best teacher, but he's not the worst. I pretty much failed (got a C), but that was because I was lazy, didn't study, and barely went to class. My fault. Most of the tests comes from lecture notes, so GO TO CLASS. And pay attention. If you do that, and study a little, it will be easy.
Just go to class, take notes, then read the textbook sections. That's all there is to it, but you HAVE to do all of that to get an A. 10 noncumulative chapter quizzes and he gives a lot of extra credit. If you're not lazy, you'll do well. He's also a very helpful and great guy. Really quirky, class is enjoyable
Quizzes/tests every week if you study theyre pretty easy and he makes class mad fun he uses clips from south park futurama and random movies he's pretty cool
Great class. Lectures are pretty interesting (he uses clips from south park and family guy all the time)and read the textbook. The class is only 10 quizzes which are very easy.
Benbassat's one cool cat. He's a fun teacher, enjoys the material and makes the material enjoyable for his students. The class is just 10 quizzes, one chapter at a time, and are really straightforward plus he gives a lot of extra credit. He's quirky and entertaining and throws in random clips from family guy all the time. Good time, easy A.
He's easy, quizzes are easy and tests aren't bad at all-- write down what's on the powerpoints, and you're good to go. easy A
Professor is fun and keeps the lectures on point. He also adds movie trailers and clips pertinent to the material at hand. Tests are basically quizzes, each 20 points. all worth the same weight. Total is out of 200, gives 2 point extra credit, along with EC on every test.. the material on the test is basically everything lecture. GREAT PROF!
He uses powerpoints and lecture. He explains everything in detail and makes the class fun. Definatly knows how to teach!10 tests, 20 points each. Most of the tests were moderate, but he threw some surprising stump questions that brought my grade down. Test average is your final grade-If your good at memorizing than you have an easy A. I'm awful
He is awesome at teaching, i always understood everything, and he made it really clear. he has a passion for the subject and his stories for explaining and making things stick in your head alwasy worked. you have to work for the grade tho, read the text book, pay attention, attend each class, take notes and understand teh material. plays familyguy
Very easy to understand! Uses a lot of videos (youtube) to make class interesting. If you read the book, attend all the classes, and take notes of the slides you will do great! Don't slack on the quizzes because he only gives A,B,C,D, or F. No Plus or minus in his class.
OMG!!! Greatest class I have ever taken Dannyboy makes it so easy as long as you do flashcards for the vocab read the chapter and listen in class you are fine. He is the most amazing professor I wish he taught more complex psychology courses. YOU NEED THIS GUY!!!
This class is easy if you go to every class and make flash cards for every quiz. He gives extra credit on almost every quiz, but there are 10 of them so that gets a little annoying.
There are no exams or papers, just short, weekly quizzes. They are deceptively difficult, and you'll have to read the text and study pretty hard. However his class is pretty fun and he uses a lot of movie trailers/clips to help with the lessons.
Benbassat is great-he makes the class interesting and he's pretty funny, and you learn a lot There are weekly quizzes, which are ridiculously easy (no final), so you just have to decide if you want to be constantly studying or not. It's pretty hard not to get an A. He only gives A/B/C/D/F, no pluses/minuses, but it's a GPA booster. Take this class!
Large lecture class. 10 quizzes/tests throughout the term. The final exam is just another chapter quiz/test, so this is not a cumulative psych class. He uses movie trailers that SOMETIMES relate to the concept being addressed, but not really. Make sure you read the textbook for this class and listening in lecture also helps.
If you want an easy A, this is the class for you
Ok- here's the thing. To get an A one must take very good notes during class- and if you still don't understand the material- then read the textbook. He gives extra credit on quizzes (he doesn't have tests really) that help a lot. Also, he can be a little weird sometimes..especially his humor. I've only read the textbook 4 times and got an A.
I loved this class! Professor Benbassat is a funny, nice, smart teacher. He supplements his discussions with video clips which are hilarious but have little to do with the material. To get an A, all you have to do is understand the notes and attend discussion. I never opened my book! He gives a TON of extra credit. To not get an A is unacceptable.
10 quizzes, 10% each - that's it. He grades on an ABCDF scale, no pluses or minuses. Each quiz had 20 questions - 15 MC and 5 fill in. The class is designed such that you need to be at every class, and he really keeps lectures interesting. An A is definitely attainable, but you need to study and read the book before each quiz. Highly recommend
Great class & professor. He's engaging and a great lecturer. Highly recommended if you need an interesting intro course. MUST STUDY HARD FOR QUIZZES. 10 quizzes, 20 pts each. Extra credit. Start studying a few days before the quiz a little each day and you'll get an A. ABCDF grading system, no + or -, which is a double-edge sword. good class!
Awful class I would not recommend to anyone. Danny somehow takes an incredibly interesting subject and picks the least interesting/relevant parts of it. His tests focus on the specific names and terms over the general ideas of psychology and you can understand a chapter well and still do badly. Awful.
amazing proffesor. best professor i have had yet. Very good lecturer interesting and funny. provides a lot of supplementary material that is helpful. Quizzes are super easy and do not require much studying. I just make notecards and have not gotten below an 18/20.
Professor Benbassat doesn't understand what an intro to psych class should be like. He chooses mundane, random topics over those actually interesting, and grades horrible. I would not recommend to anyone who enjoys psychology.
He is one of the best teachers ive had in my life! He explains things amazingly, has great examples, and does his best to make the class interesting. The way he teaches is in my opinion the way every teacher should teach. His videos and stories make class compelling and fun. The class is only graded on quizes, no homework! 10/10
Dr. Benbassat is my favorite professor at GW. If you attend lecture and read the book you will get an A. His class in very interesting and he is a great teacher
If you attend his lectures and take the notes he gives you, you should do well on all of his tests. Benbassat gives a ton of opportunities for extra credit and is very clear what will be on the tests. Some tests were difficult, but most were easy with only brief study sessions the night before the test. Book is not necessary if you attend lecture.
Best professor so far. Came in with no interest and loved it. Only professor I truly respected. Took care teaching details and what he taught in lecture was on the test. You will have to read the textbook to get an A, but you can get by without it. Gives list of terms to know for quizzes. 10 quizzes, 20 points each and some extra credit.
Amazing professor! Absolutely loved this class and learned so much. To do really well, go to class, take notes, read the textbook chapters and take notes on the terms he gives you. Before each quiz he gives a list of the things to know. It's all 20 point quizzes, no cumulative final. take this class!!!!!!!
He is an easy professor. Need to attend class for notes. Some quiz questions are random and irrelevant. Interesting class.
Benbassat was by far the best teacher I've had this semester. He's helpful, flexible, and clear. All you have to do is show up, copy down and study the notes from his Powerpoints, and you'll pass. He has a great personality, and overall he's an amazing teacher.
No major assignments, midterm, or final. Show up, take notes, take the tests and ace them. He can't be found outside of class but if you approach him after he'll help you. He says you need the book but you don't. Kind of a groovy guy but he knows what an introductory level course should be like.
Dr. Benbassat was definitely different than my other intro teachers. A lot of movie references. The class is 10 tests pretty much every week nd they can be difficult at times. The class in general was interesting, but the grading criteria was pretty hard. Only gives full letter grades which cut from an A, but he was pretty good.
I love professor Benbassat! he is really enthusiastic and always here for you! 10 tests throughout the semester - extra credit opportunities - fantastic lectures and he knows how to attract student's attention!!!
He tries to make lectures as interesting as possible and is super clear about what he expects. If you read the chapter and study your notes, you'll get A's on every quiz. Extra credit points are a nice bonus. Attendance isn't mandatory, just make sure you get notes from someone you trust and look over them.
Benbassat is an amazing teacher. He makes the course material relevant and easy to understand. I learned so much from him.
Benbassat is a great teacher. You have 10 quizzes, 1 every two classes and that's it, no midterm no final. He gives extra credit opportunities, is really clear in class and gives amazing examples. Take this class if you're interested in Psychology, it's amazing.
Love him! He's a badass, gives a lot of extra credit- almost 15 points. Tests are not hard if you memorize everything on the study guide.
take psych with Benbassat, he's a great professor. gives extra credit options(definitely take advantage) no midterm or final-every test is just one chapter which is awesome!! i learned a lot
He's a good teacher and you'll learn a lot. But his grading policy sucks and he doesn't grade on the + or - scale. If you mess up on one of the ten tests you're screwed. His class ruined my GPA.
if you're taking general psych, you need to take benbassat. I got a B only because i literally never went to class unless there was a quiz; theres 10 quizzes, and the last quiz counts as the final. it requires some studying, and if you go to all the lectures and study before quizzes, you'll get an A
Benbassat is a good lecturer but an extremely arrogant man. He takes pride in making male students look dumb in class so much to the point that no one participates by the end of the semester.
Prof Benbassat makes psych 1001 an easy class - there's no midterm or final, just ten quizzes. He tries to make the lectures more fun with film clips and trailers. If you're a psych major or just need social science credit, this is the class to take.
No exams, our entire grade consists of 10 quizzes. Very easy to ace the quizzes if you either: 1) show up for you class (which isn't necessary) or 2) read the chapter. It's definitely an easy A and I highly recommend, especially since there are NO exams whatsoever (not even a final).
Dr. Benbassat is an amazing professor. His lectures are content-heavy but he tells you exactly what you need to know to do well on the quizzes. He doesn't post his powerpoints online so make sure you take good notes during his lectures. I would recommend sitting in the front and participating, as well as attending every class.
Benbassat is by far the most inspirational, respected, and engaging professor I've EVER had at GW. He gives 10 "mini" tests with extra credit opportunities on all of them. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS. I sat in the front row and it really made me focus and be engaged during lecture. Tests occur every other week so you have to be consistently studying.
He's a little arrogant, but it's a great intro to psych class. 10 tests, with extra credit in form of questions on the test or in class questions. Do not miss class and take notes, and you should be fine. He doesnt give +/- grades, just A or B or C. Loved his teaching as well as testing methods.
This class is fine. It is not to hard just study 2 days before the quizzes you'll be fine. The subject I think bored me more than anything. However he shows a lot of video clip which keeps the class moving.
No midterm or final. 10 quizzes throughout the semester that are very straightforward and easy to study for. He also offers a lot of extra credit for every quiz. Kind of an awkward dude and can come off as rude at times, but helpful. He even lets you ask him questions during the quiz.
Definitely a unique character but I don't regret taking him one bit. Honestly, he always had me entertained. This class is pretty easy (especially if you took AP Psych), and he always sends practice problems before each quiz. Plus there's no cumulative final!! (The "final" is only on the last chapter). If you have to take psych, go with Benbassat.
It's a very interesting class, but it's VERY memorization-based, which I am NOT, so I didn't do super well in this class. He's very enthusiastic, he sends a bunch of emails and always wants to help. He's very funny, too. I like his class in retrospect, but trying to memorize everything for me was hell.
i really like this cool dude
Very easy A-/B+if you go to class pay attention copy everything down from his powerpoint and study using his study guides. He sends a lot of material he doesn't get to in class over email so check it daily. His test questions and extra credit questions are only hard because you don't know what he's asking half the time.
Dr. Benbassat is very particular in what he wants and how he grades. He gives 10 scheduled quizzes (20 pts. each) throughout the year and that is all you are graded on. He gives a list of vocab. for each quiz and anything on the sheet is fair game for the quiz. He is not the best at communicating knowledge, but know the vocab. sheets for sure.
Good class to take if you are a Psychology major or minor. This class is only graded by an A,B,C, etc system and 10 quizzes, but it is easy to get an A if you take notes in class, read the notes he sends, and study the terms on the study guide. He also sends practice questions prior to the quiz, and some of them reappear on the quiz.
Benbassat knows his stuff, he's excellent at teaching psych, and his tests are fairly simple. However, he has ultra-high expectations of his students, whom he expects to dedicate the majority of their day studying for his class as if they were all psych majors. He is very condescending and will call out/clown some students throughout the semester.
He is actually one of the best teachers I have had. If you take his class.. yeah you will have to do a bit of work by memorizing terms and concepts but his lectures are fantastic. I learned a lot in his class.
Benbassat was a really great teacher. He taught basic psychology concepts focusing a lot on application. If you attend class and take good notes (AKA copy his slides and write down things he focuses on) you will definitely get an A. He offers EC if you are present in class. He gives 10 20point tests that are non-cumulative and a cumulative final.
Benbassat is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. Always provide help outside the classroom. Reply emails and answer questions. I learnt a lot through this class. 10 quizzes no final. lots of extra credits. Highly recommend.
Very glad to have him as Psyc intro professor. Hes the reason why I chose to pursue psychology right now. His class was interesting and tests were not that challenging. Make sure you come to every class for extra credit and always take note as they will 100% be on your test!
He was awesome! The most engaging professor I have ever had, and I found myself riveted to all of his lectures. If you come to class and pay attention to what he says, you can easily get an A.
Dr. Benbassat is a great professor! You can tell he really knows his stuff and is actually passionate about what he is teaching. It's the kind of course where you really need to show up to do well, but it is easy to actually want to be there. He sends a lot of material in emails, and you really need to learn that as well as what's said in class
A great and nice professor and really wants his class to do well. Lecture and note heavy, but as long as you GO TO CLASS, really listen, and look at ALL his notes(even the ones he send in his emails) you will do great. He makes the lectures fun, gives a study guide, and extra credit. Your grade consists of 10 noncummilative tests so do well on them
Fantastic professor who made the class enjoyable. We have 10 quizzes, 20 points each, that makeup 100% of the grade. If you do the readings (he gives us the textbook, don't buy your own) and show up to class, this should be a breeze. He will go above and beyond to make sure you understand, and he loves staying after class to talk. Very passionate.
Love the movie clips throughout lecture. It makes the content more understandable. This class is for visual learners. Read the text book and ALL of his email notes. He does extra credit every class, so SHOW UP. Overall though great man and great class.
Benbassat is super enthusiastic about his course and will make his lectures interesting. The quizzes are all very easy, so if you pay attention in class and read the book you are guaranteed an A. He wants all of his students to be successful, so he offers a ton of extra credit.
Unpopular opinion but I didn't like Benbassat's teaching style at all. Videos were engaging but that was about it. If you aren't willing to put hours upon hours of your week into studying for this class, it's not worth it. Way too much reading and the tests were not built for crammers. If you aren't a psych/science major, trust me when I say AVOID.
Overall terrible prof. Gives vocab sheets to know, but often only quickly covers 1/2 the terms in lecture--basically expects you to stay after class for 1 hour after each lecture to do rest of terms. The 10 quizzes are much harder than expected, so you have to memorize everything. Says he will give 20 EC points in the semester, but gave 10 at most
This guy is everything you dont want in a professor. He comes to class everyday dressed in his military uniform and is a condescending creep who takes pride in making as many sexual innuendos as possible in class. He also doesnt cover all of the material in class intentionally just so students are basically forced to stay after with him to learn
Youre tested every week so if you dont do 50-100 page readings your grade will suffer. Unreasonable person, hell frame questions in the form of analogies: fMRI is to brain imaging as reading is to libraries? (just a random example but you get the point.) Super convoluted way of teaching psychology. Super thoughtless and oversteps boundaries...
His goal is for his students to have a well-rounded intro to psych which he achieves. With 10 tests, it is important to constantly stay on top of material. If you would like to succeed, you MUST be willing to stay for his study sessions as he does not cover all tested material in class. Read his emails, and reach out. He cares so much, great guy.
You don't even need to stay after class for the review session. Just make a quizlet with each week's terms, and you should be good to go. Super easy to get an A in this class. Gave a lot of extra credit, especially after we switched online. I jumped from a B to an A with the EC alone.
Dr Benbassat is extremely knowledgable about psychology and provides tons of information. The only assignments you get for the semester are 20 quizzes & they consist of everything from his lectures. Make sure to write down even the smallest details that he mentions because they will pop up no matter how irrelevant. He's also extremely intimidating
Danny Benbassat is an excellent yet a psychotic man. He has extra credit questions and will randomly call on people to answer them and if you're not there to answer, you lose points but if you're there and don't know, you don't lose/gain anything. His lectures were hilarious and kept me on my toes... the quizzes were tricky but helpful.
This professor is one of the worst I've had at GW. Participation matters, but only if he thinks you are correct. He shuts people down, only calls on specific people, harshly grades quizzes. Makes lewd and sexist references consistently. The class syllabus and format essentially does not matter because he seems to do whatever he likes.
Mixed feelings. Interesting class, nice enough, but I've never had such a chaotic class. Participation "matters", only if you say something he agrees with/likes. Also said some questionable stuff about people with disorders like PTSD, makes me concerned that he's a psychologist. Too much effort and unclear grading criteria, wouldn't take again.
Inappropriate comments about disorders and also sexual innuendos, doesn't follow his own syllabus, half of the time he just talked about philosophy (???). Taught it like an intro class, only called on his intro students, kept referencing random things that had nothing to do with anything. Wouldn't recommend.
Not a good professor, in the sense that he simply does not explain concepts very well. He takes 2% off for every class you miss, which is ridiculous. The course content isn't difficult, especially if you use the study guides he provides. Just contact him with questions you have about the study guides, he is very helpful in that regard.
Prof Benbassat was great. I took developmental psychopathology with him and loved his class. Attendance is mandatory, but if you have a valid absence, he will excuse it. He is passionate about the subject and utilizes video clips of movies/real patients to help explain material. I would highly recommend taking this class with him!
This class is one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. The topic was interesting and the lectures were good, although he did make some weird comments sometimes. There was stuff I disagreed with, especially around the eating disorder unit, but he is strictly following what the DSM-5 says. Tests basically every week, but they're pretty easy.
Dr. Benbasset is a great professor. He gives you exactly what you need to know for every exam, and they are all quite easy The pop quizzes can be annoying, but if you glance over your notes before class you should be fine. He is very strict about laptops though, hand written notes only.
He likes to show videos clips in class, but they're either very outdated footage from psychology documentaries/studies or trailers for movies that dramatize the disorder he's discussing. He also tends to use outdated terminology that could be considered offensive in a modern context, and doesn't always answer questions in a clear way.
most annoying part is handwritten notes. he says some cringey comments sometimes about some disorders but in general hes a good professor and makes it easy for you to do well in this class. he gives practice tests before every exam and theres always some reused questions, a lot of extra credit opportunities, etc. you really just have to show up
