This teacher is the worst professor ever! He fails everyone! Dont take him, unless you want a failing grade. He shouldn't even be teaching! All he does is fight about who's right, dont speak your opinion, he fails for that too, and you learn nothing!!

The WORST teacher EVER! He BORES you to death! Talks low which is a little irritating. Reads your essays and tells you how everything is wrong instead of providing helpful suggestions. His tests are hard because you never understand what the heck he is trying to teach. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Please don't take his class. He points something wrong with your paragraph and sentence, but he never says what is exactly wrong with it. So,you can never know what is wrong with your D or F paper. In addtion, he has a weird manner, and his topic in the class would strictly follows his own interest.

He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He goes on and on about something and still he doesn't make a point. He especially likes to go on and on when you saying something wrong and belittles you. He leaves no room for other's ideas and he doesn't know the real meaning of personification.

He's a real bad instructor. He's not clear about what he wants from his students. Taking his class was a waste of time and effort.

He seems like a real cool guy, but he doesn't seem to be a good instructor. If you want to teach a creative fiction writing class, you need to inspire the students you're teaching. I had a hard time concentrating in his class, and found it hard to even find something to write. He wasn't clear with his thoughts, and seemed to think out loud when he taught his lectures. If you want to take a Creative writing class, I suggest you take Knorr or another instructor.

in the beginning of the class it was full, at the end there were only 15 left. only 3 or 4 passed in that class. he hates athletes and if u dont write the way he likes you wont get anything better than a D. dont take this guy period.

he is a very hard reacher. On top of that he does not tell you what your writing problems are. Even if you go to his office hours and talk to him one on one it is still useless. I went to tutoring everyday for his class and I still failed. I even had a tutor who graduated from Sac State with a batchelors in english and still failed the class.

This teacher made me AND the class feel stupid, we all had to re-write our first essay. Some occasional good disscussions but mostly would go off topic. Never Needed this class and wished I would have never taken it!Never really gave help on papers and left me more confused then before, all he does is scribble notes.SCC needs to fire him already.

I first I thought this professor teaching style was a joke, but he it is very real, (horrible) and is outdated. He doesn't use any type of technology when teaching his class and waste hours by writing what he wants on the board with countless mistakes instead of assigning writing assignments from the text. It's unbelievable he is a professor.

Do not take him! He confuses his students instead of claifying the material. He is highly critical on grading and gives pretty much everyone a D on their papers. It doesn't matter how hard you work it's never enough.

Don't ever take Romero as your writing teacher. He doesn't follow the writing guidelines and he downgrades your paper for little mistakes. He has his own opinions and doesn't allow anyones else opinion correct. Taking his class will the biggest mistake because you will never pass the class since he fails his student with D's.

wow, I should of read these comments BEFORE i took his class! everything everyone is writing is true. Everyone I have talk to in my class is also getting D's. Romero is a very boring teacher. He has high standards on the paper you write in class. He gives everyone a D no matter how good it was to others. I ADVISE YOU DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE WILL FAIL YOU. I do not attend his classes due to his teaching.

This professor confused me about writing. one moment when you think you know what he is talking about he adds something else. He talks alot in the class and he doesn't give enough info on writing. He writes his own example on the board but doesn't clarify what he is writing. He does not have structured teaching method for his class.

Romero is confusing. He doesn't explain things very well and grades harshly. Gives essay assignments every class days. A very boring teacher. I will never take his class again.

Cant understand the way he teaches and he is very unclear. Also, no paper that you ever write in his class will probably get higher than a C. He tells you what to fix and you fix it but he still gives you a bad grade on the papers. I dont recommend you take him!!!!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! He is the worst teacher I have ever had! Class started with over 40 and ended with 7 enrolled! I am a very decent writer and got a 69 on EVERY paper. He does not clarify what is wrong with papers and offers NO help.

I do not recommend this class at all. He gave everybody a 68% on everything. Very unorganized, comes up with random lectures on the spot. Oh and my final grade was a 68% too

I highly recommend to anyone NOT to take this class he gives random lectures that has nothing to do with English. His class is boring and I almost fell asleep through out most of the semester. I would meet up with him to see what my essays needed and when I would complete the essays as he suggested I would still get a D. I got a D on every essay.

He's an unfair grader and rude. AVOID.

Awful teacher. Easy class for me, but I had to help my classmates a lot. He's incredibly rude and belittling. Curses out students and tells them to "get out" if they disagree with them. Unhelpful, uncaring, loves to brag about himself (his writing isn't THAT good). Didn't feel like I learned much. Go with any teacher BUT him.

I don't think I really learned much. He's a really tough grader and I don't think anyone in my class passed with higher than a C. He grades according to what he feels is good. I don't recommend him.

I did not learn anything. He makes you write summaries, but after a while stops checking them. Also, he does not give the best feedback.

Wouldn't recommend taking this professor. Office hours aren't helpful at all. His lectures don't make any sense. The things he teaches aren't even related to the topics. I like SCC for the great professors here, but Mr. Romero makes me question how he attended UCB. His lectures made no sense and the best grade that good writers got were C sometimes one B. You should expect to fail this course basically. His grading makes no actual sense. Just avoid him at all costs.

A student in the class wrote an objectively terrible paper. It happens. Most professors would give the student an "F" and move on. Instead, Prof. Romero decided to curse at and demean the student, bringing him to tears in front of the class. I took the opportunity to drop when we moved to Zoom due to COVID. Stay away.

Teacher doesnt make an effort to help students. Really doesnt look for students POV. Doesnt teach rather just talks. Never available when we need him.

He never puts the assignments on canvas until the day its due. He doesn't respond to emails. His grading is also unrealistic

I came into this class with a passion for creative writing and love for words. If you asked me what I learned, I literally couldnt tell you anything. He rambled on and on about his works/life and expects you to be a good writer. He isnt afraid to stomp on your works. I should have noticed after 15 people left that I was wasting my time. A shame.

The class was disorganized, there was no clear grading rubric that he followed. It took him half a semester to return one essay. Professor Romero seems like a nice person however his teaching style is not beneficial. Assignments were not graded but mandatory to do. Does not follow the syllabus or due dates.

I haven't gotten a C in a class since middle school. He gives you critiques on your essay, but none of it means anything. Try to fix everything he tells you to fix, you will get the same grade. I spent many hours each week in this class trying to improve and a C to show for it.

He talks forever and says nothing. We aren't allowed to resubmit our writings after they are edited so we can't improve what we wrote. He doesn't know how to use a computer and it's an online class. He takes pictures of his edits and then sends them 1 page at a time in separate emails so a 10pg essay gets 11 emails because he puts notes at the end.

Zoom classes provide very little assistance in improving skills; says a lot without saying much at all. If you rewrite essays according to his criticisms, he claims you didn't change enough. Find another professor if you want to receive genuine and helpful criticism.

Bad at managing his time and always posts grades two weeks after the submission date. Always post homework assignments out of nowhere and make them due the next day without any prior warning in class. Almost never responds to emails, and if he does, he doesn't even answer the questions in the email. He would just say, "Check your class notes."

I enrolled in his English class and had a poor experience. He has subpar teaching skills and does not explain concepts clearly. His instructions are unclear and I had to send several emails to receive clarification. Also, he is a tough grader. He is terrible and pressurizes students at the last minute to drop the class.

Do not even think for a second to take this class. This is the worst professor I have ever had. He does not teach a single thing, but talks nonsense for the whole duration of the zoom meeting. His instructions are very unclear and with very little feedback you are left guessing on how to do the assignments. Broad grader and comments are unhelpful.

I thought I was doing well because it said my work was 100 percent. Unclear communication & gives little feedback about what he expects or how to fix mistakes. Gives an overall bad grade based on one essay. He told me I was a horrible writer and a terrible student. I have a 4.00 GPA, and now at risk due to being blindsided and kept in the dark.

If there's one professor you should avoid, it's this one. His communication, regarding grading and feedback, is poor. When it comes to returning assignments, the grades often come with little to no explanations or helpful annotations. If you're looking for clear, consistent feedback or helpful instruction, you're not going to find it here.

Not a very good professor. He talks way too slowly and keeps the class uninteresting. He is also not helpful at all. If you have any questions to ask him in an email, get ready to have all of them unanswered. His grading is also confusing, and if you make any mistakes, he won't give good feedback and also won't let you re-do it.

Terrible. Confusing grader + he emails you blurry/dark pictures of annotations that are illegible. Not helpful whatsoever, even during office hour. Always late on posting assignments, but expects them to be turned in 1-2 days after. This was the worst experience I've had in a English class. STAY AWAY.

Bad lectures, repeats vague nonsense. Told me my story was very good, one of the best he'd seen, and yet refused to give me an A on it. Annotations are impossible to read. In my class, he didn't care about attendance or late work. I don't recommend skipping class but I rarely showed up. Tells you you will fail as a writer no matter what.

Worst professor I've ever taken probably has dementia all the review are correct and consistent. How he is still employed is beyond anyone's comprehension. STAY AWAY

Ratings definitely match. Class ended mid December and now it's the second week of January and grades finally were completed but reviews were trash and rushed. No actual feedback at all. Don't even waste your time with this class find another professor.

it would take weeks for us to get a grade of small homework asignments worth like 10 points, and the grading was very hard at some point i noticed he stop grading these indavidual assignemts so i emailed him and he said he thought students were cheating so he graded them incomplete, he does NOT give clear instrusctions i was always confused .

Worse professor I have ever had in my entire 30 years of living. He grades very harshly and basically acts as if he did not write it, it's not acceptable. He takes excessively long to grade sometimes over a month. His feedback is not helpful at all nor is his study sessions. He grades the 3 essays only but not the 15-20 other smaller summaries

A terrifying teacher, with extremely strict grading and making things difficult for students being his pleasure! He is not qualified to be a teacher.

Instructions are not clear. For him nothing is right. He fails you no matter how hard you try. He needs to understand that not everyone shares his way of thinking. He should take into account the effort we exert. FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR!

I took ENGL C1000 and it was horrible. Every essay I wrote my grades were awful!! For my third essay I had someone with a MASTERS in english help me write it and I still received a bad grade. This teacher has such a picky grading scale that no matter what, you will not do good. His lectures clearly do not help give the right guidance for anything.

His corse work was extremely confusing to say the least and he would constantly contradict what he wanted out of analysis and essays. He also would send me condescending emails when I would be overly nice to him. His essay notes and directions are not clear or concise, and is hard to please.

In this class you will do weekly 250-350 word assignments on articles that will never be graded but you will write essays without a rubric. No matter how you write your papers they will never be right
