Not a great teacher.
This woman was honestly the worst math teacher I have ever had. Her lectures did't coincide with the tests and she was very unorganized. If you can take someone else, or wait to get to ASU.
eh, she's probably an ok math teacher, its just me who sucks
No Comments
Never explained anything as thoroughly as I wanted, and was never too inviting. She offered tutoring but was not accomodating on the hours, and rarely took time in class to answer questions.
She's the bomb!
she was the best math teacher i have ever had.. she explains everything and she uses the exact homework problems on her tests.. if you want to pass math take her class!
Excellent Teacher!
Exactly like a high school class minus a final study guide.
horrible horrible horrible! She gives NO study guides, her tests are harder than any ive ever taken, and if you get on her bad side at the beginning of the semester GOOD LUCK! SHE IS SO MEAN! She'll help u at her office hours, but she makes u feel retarded. I would NEVER wish her on ANYONE! DONT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF!
she's the best teacher ever!! you people r dumb if u think she was rude. maybe ur the one that sucks at life!!! She always answers questions and is very professional. dont take her if you expect it to b an easy highschool like class!!
shes kool
If you work hard in her class, you do fine. She explains the material good.
She's Great!
She makes you work hard but you really learn the material. Great math teacher!
The best teacher in math.
She is a great math teacher. She uses a lot of examples to explain concepts and is always available to her students. If you need to take Stats take it with her!
Awesome Teacher!! She really enjoys what she teaches, which makes a world of difference. She really desires for her students to succeed Greatly!! She made Math make sense!!
BEST TEACHER EVER. TEACHES AND DIFINES EVERYTHING VERY CLEARLY AND HAS FUN IN THE CLASS.
Not impressed by my experience. Agreed to let me be in her class then after I paid $60 for transcripts to be overnighted to the school she refused to review my transcript and approve my pre-reqs. What a waste!
She was my professor in how to teach elementary math. She maybe once mentioned how to teach something. It was like she was teaching us how to do the math, and she wasn't even good at that! I did not think that she was a good teacher and would not recommend her!
I havent liked math until I had her class. She is so helpful and really wants you to learn. Great teacher.
If you want to learn math, she's the one. Very good at explaining topics and really helpful.
She seemed like a very nice teacher. I was sick on the day of a test and couldn't go to class. She didn't let me make up the test. I was an A student, and even though I got As on the rest of the tests I only got a C as my final grade. This put me on academic probation, because I was there on a scholarship. She was very unreasonable and unecessary.
This was my second time taking this class and I was really impressed at how she explained the different methods and how easy I could understand her. Like with any math class you need to do your homework in order to succeed. Her test contained problems similar to homework and there are no surprises. She does make herself available for help
She doesn't know how to teach future teachers. She wasted our time with stupid games. She also took points off my grade for discretely texting during class. I did not learn anything in this class.
WORST TEACHER AT MCC! I got straight As at MCC until she gave me a D. She judges her students from day one. If you aren't a student she liked the first day you're S.O.L. and should drop the class. Meanest teacher I have had. Made me jump through hoops to prove a family member died or would drop me for attendance. only 3 allowed 3 missed classes
online 8 week summer course. You get unlimited attempts on the homework, & the online tests follow the homework. The final exam is 40% of your grade, which is a LOT for an online course. She said it would be like the homework, but it was clearly not. I have never taken a test this HARD & RIDICULOUS. I have a 4.0 & this was by far the hardest final
This was a summer online class so it went very fast and was challenging. She was fast at returning emails and always helped to answer questions. This was hard not meeting in an actual class but if you put in the time, it will pay off.
The final exam was WICKED!! The online homework and tests do NOT prepare you for it! I had a 4.0 GPA and a 97% going into the final. I worked very hard all semester, with 100% on my homework and several tests. I studied hard for the final, too, and felt confident about it. But I bombed it anyway. That shouldn't happen. Choose another prof.
8 week online summer class. The homework & exams were not too bad. The exam was beyond DIFFICULT and unlike the online tests! I would NOT take a class online from this professor ever again. Her info about the final was misleading & incorrect. I have taken many internet courses before including math and this was the worse ever!
I just realized I rated this professor and put MAT 212 instead of MAT 206. So read 7/24/09 for a rating of stats.
I did not take this online, but her class was easy. She is strict and she lets you know on the first day, so you have no one to blame but yourself if you miss an assignment. Gives formulas on test day, just plug in the #'s. If you have an "A" going in to the final then you won't have to take it. Like I said I took this in person and not online.
She has taught us nothing as of yet and the semester is almost over. Class time is not put to good use. Is often degrating to students. She had truly been making fun of one of the girls in the class and treats her like she is an idiot. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DAPHNE ROSSITER!
Great teacher. If you follow the lectures, you will be just fine. Gives notes for every section. If you want to learn, take her!
You all that complain are probably just unhappy with yourself. She really knows her stuff and if you attend class and do your homework you will have no problem. If you don't want to follow rules, that's your own fault.
You shouldn't be in school if you compain about Rossiter because she is here to make you learn. If you work, you will learn a ton from her. If you want to goof around, get out!
I contacted her for help in the past and basically received a message back that equated to "uhh, that's too bad sorry".Exams do not AT ALL reflect HW or tests... NO STUDY GUIDE FOR FINAL. I wasted HOURS upon HOURS studying enormous amounts of the wrong info, and just BOMBED the final. B O M B E D. By far the most inept teacher I have ever had.
Go to class, do the homework (they're short)--you'll be fine. Tests are just like homework/lecture. Teaches EXACTLY what she wants you to know.
I had her for a hybrid class and attending class turned out to be useless as she hardly ever taught math. Terrible with partial credit on exams. Tests don't reflect homework in the slightest. No study guide or guidance for final exam. If you are considering other professors, I'd say try them.
Took online. Passed HW, tests, and midterm with A's. Mostly because HW was unlimited, tests I could use notes, and I'd taken a previous MAT150 class up to the middle and dropped out. For finals, allows front and back of index card and graphing calculators. Hint: put notes in calculator. Even so bombed the ridiculous final. Somehow still got an A.
She gave us 5% points extra credit for the midterm and final. If you ace the midterm, tests, and homework, 70% of your grade is already an A (already have a C). She put problems never covered on the final but was nice enough to give the whole class credit for those problems. I only got maybe half of the 30 questions right. But she gave us like 10.
useless teacher i ever have
You all that complain just don't want to put in the time to learn. Don't take an online math class if you don't want to study a lot. She was always prompt with emails and would answer any questions that I had. Very good!! Quit complaining - you are in college.....
Hmmm. I took this class online, and I did not find it as difficult as others are making it out to be, it just takes a lot of work. The Final was not as hard as people are making it out to be either. You will have to study a lot for everything, that's a given, but that's the only key to do well in this class.
Do not take an online class with this instructor. In order to succeed in an online class, both the professor and student must be willing to commit time and effort. This instructor is nonexistent in the online world. She is more of a facilitator. I think the school would be better off hiring a student to manage the grades.
Best math teacher I've ever had. She makes you work hard, but if you attend class, she makes it easy to follow. Do your homework and you will do good.
I agree, best math teacher I have ever had. And probably the best math teacher at MCC. She is strict with attendance and tardies, but is amazing and explaining math, which is all I ask for. She is nice, and answers questions, and stays on topic. Do your homework, and study for tests, and she will help you with any questions so ask!
Second time through this course and it is so much easier with Mrs. Rossiter. She follows the attendance rule but it is because she wants you to learn. If you come to class and do your homework, you will succeed. She's a great teacher and will help you as much as you want.
Phenomenal teacher, she is very clear, and exceptionally helpful. She does grade homework, so make sure not to goof off. She also gives practice tests and answer keys. She expects students to attend class, but will work with you if a specific circumstance arrises. She goes out of her way to help out, and teaches quite clearly. Highly Recomend
Took this class online. Teacher is very hands off and depends on the web based instructional program to teach you. If you have a question she refers you to the website :( Online homework and tests are open book, midterm is based off of homework and you get to use a 4x6 notecard full of notes. Final was extremely difficult even with note card.
WORST TEACHER EVER. She is extremely difficult to talk to and only degrades students in the class. She is ridiculously strict on attendance &tardies. She'll kick you out if you even look at your phone. She has favorites too. Watch out...
Great math instructor. Teaches like a college instructor should teach. If you don't want to learn, get out.
I needed this class to transfer and I learned so much and was prepared for my higher level classes. If you don't want to learn, you are wasting everyone's time. She is great and will teach you what you need to know.
Professor Rossiter was an amazing Statistics teacher. Although I finished her class with a B, she was incredibly clear with her expectations. The tests and quizzes were exactly like the homework assignments, and the final exam was a cumulative of all of the tests taken throughout the semester. Great class and awesome instructor!
The reason I wanted to rate this professor is because she really did go out of her way to ensure I could do well. I took the online class and received a C (online is always difficult). My recommendation is to visit her during office hours and get to know your calculator. She is very technology friendly. Thanks Daphne!
If an emergency, or anything regarding the matter of not being able to complete something on time happens. plan on dropping or getting withdrawn. I emailed her far in advance to help me get back online to take the test and received some bs back. then she went on to say i didn't email her in advance. just save yourself
This is COLLEGE. She expects you to act like a college student and come to class on time and prepared. You will really understand the math. Her explanations are clear and her tests are very fair. I highly suggest taking rossiter.
I would not take statistics with this professor again. She taught us zero and does not respond timely to your emails. When I had data issue with Pearson sites, she left me on my own device and even after I called Pearson she never responded. what a joke that she is an professor.
I have taken many class at the math dept and I am here to warn others the degree of unhelpfulness and hostility from this professor. As the dept chair, she is ironically the most hostile professor I have encounter.
I'm not sure what you are all saying, but this is college. You need to take responsibility for your work. She always got back to me, and was very fair in her testing.
I had Mrs. Rossiter for an online class and in-person. She always emailed back and helped me with any problems. She will not baby you, but she will teach you statistics.
She does not respond to emails and act as if she is the God of the math department. she has repeatedly shown herself to be unhelpful. I would email her a questions and I would not get a response. I would never take a course from her again. Students beware!
I really enjoyed this class! YES she is strict in her teaching, but just wants everyone to do well without sliding by. SShe got back to me on al my emails, and everything was in the syllabus! She's not going to baby you by any means, THIS IS COLLEGE. I really learned a lot from Mrs. Rossiter. Thanks Daphne!
Attendance is required and tardiness can count toward absences. Have the textbook, as all homework is assigned from certain chapters. Homework is collected on a random basis. Exams are similar to homework problems, but she grades tough. The class is not an easy A, but it's achievable. Do the homework, ask questions, and show up to class on time.
I took her MAT206 online. I found this class extremely easy (I am average at math). I did not study once for the class I just went online did the HW and took the test and received a C. I think if you take the time and read the material you can easily get an A. My advice is that you learn to do everything on your calculator (look up youtube videos).
I asked her a question and she said she didn't understand what I was asking, which is understandable because I didn't understand the formula. She just went on with her lecture instead of asking me to explain more. I passed the class because of the great tutors at MCC
Worst class I have ever taken. If you struggle with math save yourself the trouble and take someone else. This professor does not teach. She assigns every homework assignment available through pearson. I spent 44hrs on the homework alone. I got a A in the class, but Ive completed Calc I,II,III going into this class. Terrible Professor!
This is definitely not a class to take online. If you have no choice, then do yourself a favor and go on campus to ask Daphne for help in person. She is not the best at returning emails but when I started going into her office she helped me tremendously. I could not have gotten an A without her help.
The content is so easy and so repetitive that you only have yourself to blame for not passing. Professor Rossiter gave extra credit and seemed to truly want everyone to understand the material. She was sometimes snappy and intimidating, but overall a nice woman and a fair grader. DO NOT take this class online unless you want a ton of extra work.
I took the 4-week Winter semester version of this course, so there was obviously a consistent load of work every week, but overall the course wasn't too bad. Since it was online, she can't really teach; its more up to you. Its also statistics, so it will obviously be challenging, but it wasn't too bad, especially since it was only 4 weeks long.
OMG this class is really hard. I'm a 4.0 student and I took it online, it was a great mistake because I wanted to keep my 4.0 She answers fast but tells you to refer to the book
Retook online after a horrible experience with a different professor. Wouldn't recommend taking the class online if it's your first time through, just because it's not easy stuff to wrap your head around. Being an online class, there's not a whole lot of interaction, but it's fine. If you need to retake, would recommend, otherwise, take in person
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Material is poorly presented and professor is NOT accessible for help and she doesn't work with you if you need to make up a test. TONS of HW that you HAVE to complete before you can move on to the next section or test. This class has 12+ hours of work per week to get a decent grade - not worth it! Take it in person!
The class is online, so you have to work hard and keep up. My Stat Lab is very useful. Keep on pace and you will be successful. She replies to emails quickly.
I took this class after graduating with a B.S. in Microbiology because I needed it as a prerequisite for a graduate program. If you're a needy student that needs hand-holding, I wouldn't recommend this because it's provided solely through online software. But if you can just sit down and put in time to learn the material, you'll be fine.
I had this professor for online Stats and she is really nice. The material is not difficult and it is explained in a variety of ways like videos and notes. The grading criteria is clear and manageable. The midterm and final exam are taken in person but she offers extra credit on both. Just be sure to follow the syllabus and you will do well :)
I took her class for stats and thought she was a great teacher! She really taught the material and did multiple examples on the board so if you go to class it's pretty easy to pass. She lets you know what's going to be on the tests. Homework is required but she just checks to see if you do it. Would take her for other math classes if I could.
For an online class, she is very good. You can always email and she will get right back to you. You will work hard, but learn a lot!
Not very helpful when in need especially during crunch semesters like summer. Avoiding this pof. in the future since its my money I paid for this class
I took her 4 week winter course. This class is a lot of work. Get ready to at least spend 7 hours a day doing homework. The professor is nice. She does respond to emails pretty fast if you have any questions, but this class requires you to teach yourself pretty much everything. All your work is done trough MY Stat Lab.
Do NOT take this class with her. Literally if there is any other option to take it with a different professor please do. If you every have any issues with the class I would not bother contacting her. She is not understanding at all, refuses to address problems, and does not care about any issues you have with the class. This teacher is stone cold.
This professor is not a teacher. Everything is through software and although she does respond to emails her responses are useless and do not help. Do NOT take her, especially online, from her performance this semester I am incredibly surprised she is department chair. Beware it is like having no teacher so any problems you have you are stuck with.
STAY AWAY from this professor! She is terrible. She does NOT reply students' emails after 4-5 days later. Her online videos are just like a book's pages read word by word by another narrator, not hers! I have taken many online classes before but this class with Professor Daphne was totally the worst experience in my college!
This is not an easy class, but it is online, so I expected more work and to do it on my own. She always responded to my emails very quickly and helped me with any questions that I had. It is college, so you do have to work.....
She was always available and always answered emails quickly. When I didn't understand something, she would get online and help me. This class is hard, but she really helped me out. I would like all teachers to be like this.
Stats Live Online. She was a little scattered. She doesn't automatically review your work on exams, you have to email her to get credit for your work, but she will adjust your grade. Do all the homework, I re-did all homework before each exam. She does a cumm final worth 25% , but if you have an A prior you don't have to take the final.
Daphne is one of my favorite professors. Clear expectations, accommodating, easily accessible for help, interesting lecturer, and explains the concepts clearly. The way she lays the class structure out was fantastic. She is very involved and makes everyone feel included and involved. Thanks!
She didn't do hardly anything. She doesn't teach any material. Made us pay for an online subscription though MOER math and couldn't even answer my questions. Tests are hard and don't always reflect homework. 2/10 would do again
it will probably be the first-class I fail, the online format is horrible and the tests are nothing like the homework assignments. I know stats courses are usually difficult to understand but this lady did not help at all, avoid this teacher like the plague.
Textbook wording isn't comprehensive, videos disorganized, and I didnt complete one test within the time limit. Its most of the grade. The logic is if the majority doesnt have a problem, it isn't one. She did eventually go back to look at the grades after an argument though. The tests dont match the homework. No grade changes no exceptions. Even 1%
This is a college statistics class, so you do have to work hard. I chose online, so I watched the videos and read the text. The videos were very helpful. Test questions were similar to homework, so make sure you do the homework. All class materials are free, so that is great! The instructor always responds quickly to emails. Fair instructor!
This class was a breeze, and I don't consider myself good at math. Each test was UN-PROCTORED and you had to submit work for each test within 15 minutes of submitting the test. Final exam was easy and UN-PROCTORED. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. She was accessible and open to change grades if you caught an error.
I have always been pretty average at math (B's) and took an online math class last semester and did great. I do the homework and watch the videos but the content on the tests, which are a huge part of your grade, is nothing like the homework. She is super hard to contact which is frustrating when you are taking an online class. Would NOT recommend.
I would not recommend taking this class. From my experience, I have never been more confused in a math class until now. Watching the videos can be a bit difficult to understand but after some time it's easy to understand. The homework and tests, almost all of your grade, is completely different and you don't know what to answer. Take someone else.
80% of your grade is based on tests alone. Midterm consists of first 4 chapters of 8 while the final consisted of all 8 chapters. On some HW you don't have a video to help you, so if you don't understand the textbook good luck. Have to go in-person for midterm and final, was given a calculator that wouldn't allow to graph equations Avoid this class
Very Test Heavy Class! 4 Unproctored Online Tests (7.5% each) Midterm / Final In Person (25% each) Homework (20%). Homework is unlimited attempts until completion. If you want to pass this class, pay rigorous attention to the first four chapters and the last four will follow much easier. Rossiter was available via email promptly when needed.
For an online class, there are so many resources, and everything was free. There are videos, examples, and a book. Also, you can meet with the instructor whenever you want. It is online, so be prepared to work, but you have no reason not to succeed if you put in the time.
Grading for an online math course is a different story! Most of your grade consists of 4 exams on MOER (30% overall) and must take the Midterm and Final in person (25% each). If you prefer to take this online class, then get ready to teach yourself. If you would want to take this online course, then get ready to teach yourself!
Being an all-online class was tricky to really understand the material. She also used MOER outside of Canvas for assignments and tests, making it hard to remember due dates. That being said, she was very caring with our grades, had easy extra credit opportunities throughout the course for midterms and finals, and did reviews for important tests.
I took MAT206 online over the summer with Daphne. A lot of learning on your own but if you reach out, she is more than willing to help. I asked to meet via zoom a couple of times because I was confused and she explained the subjects and questions in a way that actually helped me understand. She definitely cares about her students, just reach out!
Uploads terrible quality videos for explanations and announcements. Answers are so precise in tests without any partial credit or feedback from scanned worked sent in after tests, improving was tough.
My experience with Rossiter was not good. Her emails are not clear when it comes down to asking for help. She will leave you on read as well. You have to ask students in a forum for help though they are lost as you are. Her replies are rude. Your grade is 80% based on tests and 20% HW. The HW sometimes doesnt even have clear explanation. Avoid her.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Severus Snape would be a better professor than her (and no I do not think he was a good person like some of you weirdos). She never responds to emails and she says she gives partial credit but does not. I have a 4.0 and this is the last class I need to transfer to uni. I'm afraid my GPA is about to tank because of her.
Daphne doesn't provide any study guides/resources for tests/HW, which would be extremely helpful (every math class I've taken has had hand-made resources provided by the professor.)
Wow, I just completed this class and I would never have made it without her help. She met with me in office hours and was willing to help me whenever I needed it. I would not have passed without all of the help. Also, watch all of the videos as they are so helpful!
