Cool professor, very helpful.
I got an A- in the course only cause I did the service learning.
She's a cool professor. But to do good on tests, you must read all the chapters.
lots of material, exams require knowing everything, super friendly, funny, nice!
love that lady, go for help she is there to teach u/funny, service boosts grade
interesting but kind of flighty
No Comments
Lots of Extra Credit, lectures are ambiguous and worthless, assingments help
horrible teacher, focuses a lot on discrimination, very unorganized, tests suck
Excellent Teacher. I definitely recommend her if you can.
HORRIBLE. unorginized. doesnt know material well. cant speak well.
Very nice lady, but cant teach at all....flies through the material

One of best teachers I've had, Easygoing, Funny, Gives many chances for X-credit
awesome teacher! funny and GREAT to talk to...just doesnt give good notes
Go to her office hours
Easy if you read&go to class. Lots of X-credit
The tests are very, very hard even with the cheat sheet. Fortunately she gives lots of extra credit to help bring up your grade. Collects homework on occassion too.
Spring '03 was first semester she taught GBus160. Completely clueless about the class material. Gives you a one page paper and makes it worth 100 pts, then gives a major project that takes hours and its worth 30 pts. Didnt learn anything, but was easy
Wonderful personality, very compassionate, unclear at times during the lecture but utilize her office hours and after exams go see her and you can talk her into giving back points AS LONG AS you have a good argument for why you picked the wrong answer.
THE QUEEN knows nothing about law, if she does she has a funny way of teaching it. Notes don't make sense and are out of order. Not even worth going to class, she is so vague, you won't learn a thing in this class, but she's nice.
My easiest an favorite class. Extra credit out the ears. Notes tend to be annoying. Just read the cases examples and bold words in the book and goto her office hours if you need to. Overall great class. Take her.
Although I did not learn much, I highly enjoyed my time with THE QUEEN. She has alot of fun with the material and answers every question... I Earned an A because of last minute extra credit
Good teacher! Very thorough and clear cut. Also interacts very well with students and going to class is not a bore. tests aren't too hard
Fun teacher to have. Not very easy, though.
Great professor, makes lectures and course material interesting. Gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities for quizes and exams. Open book/take home quizes, cheat sheet exams. If you keep up with the work, this class is an easy B.
Really fun teacher who loves her job. Give lots of material to work with, lots of information available to do well. Do the homework assignments. She gives a quiz every week so take the practice quizes on blackboard. Do the extra credit too because it makes a big difference.
"The Queen" is one of the best teachers at JMU, and she really loves her students. Class is not hard as long as you take all the quizzes (one a week) and do all the homework (one a week). They basically make the class for you. Tests are not hard at all, but do require studying.
The class covers a huge amount of material and there are dozens of concepts and definitions to memormize. She is very accomodating and will explain all your questions if you visit her office. The tests are hard but the weekly homework and quizes help out your grade.
A whole lot of material is covered in class, but you will be fine if you go to class and pay attention. Tests are that bad. Weekly quizzes and homework help boost your grade. Gives tons of extra credit, take advantage of it. Good professor and easy A/B for the class.
Queen Daphyne is the sassiest teacher, ever, i think. Business law is rather reading intensive, but her tests arent too hard. if you do the magic 15 and chapter quizzes, you will be fine. The queen is very willing to help and work with her students. the queen definitely makes her class interesting.
Queen Daphyne is a great teacher: shes a lot of fun and you can tell she really enjoys teaching and wants to get to know her students. HINT: go to her office hours to look over tests...additional points are involved. The class was challenging, but manageable to get a good grade.
Verrrrry nice professor, and very very helpful with the class. She's funny and sorta makes the class fun. Definitely take her cuz she gives extra credit all the time and the answers to everything.
Queen, as she likes to be called, is a very easy going and generally nice teacher. Weekly quizzes and case studies boost up grades. Tests are simple, study and you are guaranteed an A in this class.
Queen is awsome teacher..study hard for finals~
sweet
Love this professor in class, out of class and during exams not so much. She makes the material intereting, but the text is very dry! Go to her office after exams to look at them, it helps! Exams are hard, sometimes harder than they should be, but she has parts in her grading system that reward for coming to class and doing work! Not the easiest
it is blaw what do you expect? but tests are harder than should be... but awesome lady go to office hours!
She makes class interesting most of the times and applies it to us as college students. Make sure to keep up with what's due via blackboard because she likes to not tell you assignments. I recommend her for blaw.
amazing teacher, take her if you ever get the chance! Easy quizzes every week... lots of extra credit
Queen is so awesome. She has her favorites, but she doesn't pick them out in groups. She'll help you if ask for it. Class is real tough but the weekly quizes will help with your grade! Take queen!
Effective teacher, likes to be tricky though. Make sure you check blackboard for assignments and due dates! Quizzes are easy, tests are harder. Gives a few extra credit assignements, if you put in effort you can have an A.
shes a sweetheart! at first didnt know what to expect, but turned out to be a caring and dedicated teacher. weekly quizzes, but she gives u most of the answers. lets u use a cheat sheet on one or two exams (& on the final!), listens to ur opinions, answers any Qs thoroughly, has XC, puts powerpoints of notes online. highly recommended!
She is one good professor...that's all i have to say.
SUCH a nice lady, Dr. Thomas (the queen) is definitely the best professor to get for COB 218...the tests get progressively harder, but if you make somewhat of an effort, it's an easy B and up class. TAKE!
An awesome professor (I'm surprised her rating isn't higher) who is always willing to help students. Her tests do get harder as the semester progresses, but as was said before as long as put in a decent effort you should get a B. There also quizes (or somtimes papers, never more then a couple pages) every friday but they are generally easy.
She's a fun professor. But dont take that lightly, Queen Daphnyne's tests are kinda hard. They are on the PP's and the class notes
I Dont' know how people are rating her. Her tests are ridiculously hard. When asked how people do on her final she stated "Not to well." I would def take ursury or someone else over her. She is nice lady, but what happens in class is of no use on the tests
Same here, her tests are way too hard for a business core class and her lectures don't help at all. I have a C in this class and A's in all of my other classes. If you're not into law and legal matters, I would suggest taking someone else.
She is awsome. Not as easy as some of the other teachers, but an awsome professor. Gives you key terms to study before every test, study them well and you'll do fine. Allows you to argue points for extra credit, and has easy online quizes to boost your grade. Class is fun and her lectures are interesting not boring. Take her.
I have friends who have taken her before and apparently she did a complete turnaround this semester. She never explained any of her extra assignments, her test are super hard, and she DOES NOT teach in class. All she does is read off the powerpoints...
Dr. Thomas is a decent professor overall. Her tests are pretty difficult, but she does give key terms to help students study. She does a great job of making the material interesting and she also gives a lot of extra points for attending class. If you work your butt off you can definitely get a "B".
Read the book. U will do poorly on exams if u don't read the chapters. Go to class, take notes. There are powerpoints, study the topics on there by reading the book. She gives u 10 extra credit points for every exam. Attendance mandatory. If u get an A on the final, u get an A for the class. Exams get harder & harder though
WTF? boring uninteresting class, couldn't even understand what she was say half the time. but give credit for showing up to class and a lot of "effort" points.
Very nice person. And she is also very helpful if you go talk to her. I would definitely take her again.
She is very nice and go over her power points and then read the summary at the end of each chapter.. you should be fine... extra credit for every test ....LISTEN to what she says in class she has similar multiple choice questions on her test. she was my first A at jmu
Tests get progressively harder since material gets a little more confusing. Come to class, pay atttention to lecture, study hard and you'll do fine. Also gives extra credit to help you out!
read the book and powerpoints. go to her office hours, she is very nice and helpful! material is not all that interesting, but it is useful stuff!
She's a very nice lady. I have learned a lot while in her class and enjoyed the lectures. Study the powerpoints, notes and GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS! She's very helpful!
She was really fun and interesting. Definitely go to class because she gives good examples and read the powerpoints. The tests weren't too hard if you studied a little.
Nice, and a very easy class. You get to have a full size cheat sheet for every test but the first one, and she offers more opportunities for extra credit than any other teacher I've had since middle school. That said, sometimes I did get irritated in her class at the comments she would make
Go to class, read the powerpoints, answer a question in class everyonce in a while, study a little and you'll be fine. tests are somewhat hard, but not terrible. i would recommend taking her!
Not sure about what happened when looking at previous reviews she seems to be a great professor. Her tests are hard and have nothing to do with her lectures (reads powerpoints to you). Half way through semester started to give pointless HW assignments. She is an ok teacher but I have heard there are alot better BL professors.
She's an ok professor. She doesn't actually "teach" in class. She just reads powerpoint slides and tells stories. I had to pretty much teach myself about the class. She has 3 tests, the final and busy work hw once in awhile. You get credit for going to class. She gives you ways to get points back.
very nice if you get to know her. the test were difficult but if you study you will do fine. go to her office hours after each test, you will get points and she will get to know your name. pay attention in class and be invloved in discussion and you will be just fine! very nice lady, fair
I can't say that I agree with her teaching style but she's so nice it's hard to say anything negative about her. The tests are extremely difficult but there are ways to drastically improve your grade. Reading every word in the book will not guarantee an A in the class. The tests require a different way of thinking. Go to her office hours and class.
shes an extremely nice and helpful professor but her tests are sooo hard. even if you read the text book and study the powerpoints a lot its difficult to get an A on the tests. Go to her office hours and it will help a lot!!
She's awesome. Her office hours are SOO helpful. Go to her office after tests and she just gives you points. During class she goes over powerpoints, but she's so energetic even during her early classes. Class is always interesting.
She's an okay professor. Her tests are hard but she curves a lot. Coming to class and doing the effort-only homeworks will def bump your grade. She doesn't really teach, but read from powerpoints. It can be a little boring. You could get a B without much effort. I'd recommend her. She's a very nice person and she knows her JMU.
This class was awesome! GO TO CLASS - its crucial. Read the textbook and it's easy. Thomas is such a great professor and has a great sense of humor. Took her at 8am and never skipped a class because it was entertaining or worth while to go. Would totally take her class again!
DONT TAKE! she is a very hard grader and tests are close to impossible. also she makes an already boring class even more boring. barely got a C in the class and i usually get A's or B's
AVOID if you can!! She has changed her teaching format drastically from previous semesters. The tests are nearly impossible and has a strict attendance policy. I thought from her other ratings that this would not be too bad of a class, I was way off.
Thomas is terrible. It seems as if she makes her tests for the sole reason of wanting students to do poorly. She gives an unbelievable amount of busy work and grades it hard. I do very well in all my other COB courses except for hers. AVOID if you can!!
GREAT Professor, Makes boring material interesting, Uses current, interesting cases to explain concepts, No attendance policy but if an assignment is done in class you sign an attendance sheet so you get credit for the assignment. Tests can be hard, but on some you can use notes/ppts, Curves nicely, Good amount of extra credit. Hilarious Lady!
Professor Thomas does not allow note cards on tests and she gives very difficult, nearly impossible tests. She is a funny teacher, with a good sense of humor, however it is extremely hard to get above a C or C+
Much Much harder than expected, her tests are nearly impossible. I would try and get a different professor for 218. Nice woman but very difficult this past semester.
The best proff i have had at JMU. She keeps the class involved and brings a lot of energy to class. Tests are kinda hard but if you put in the time you will get an A or B. Gives plenty of extra credit. TAKE HER!
Loved her! She made the class really interesting and you can tell she's passionate about what she teaches!
Don't take her. The way the course is laid out is not transparent at all -- what she is going to do from one day to the next is completely unpredictable. Has an ego that can be difficult to deal with. If you READ THE BOOK you will do just fine, probably get an A. But you HAVE to READ. And not just skim the vocab.
Awesome professor, very interesting and helpful. The tests are very hard, but she curves a good deal and gives extra credit. Can't skip class, and it can get boring, but overall very good. The final is online, open book, I got an A on it and an A overall. Take this class.
Prof Thomas was my favorite professor this semester. The class isnt easy and the subject matter can be dry at times but an A is possible if you keep up with the reading and take notes on each chapter. Thomas curves and gave generous extra credit. The final was open notes.
If youre a football player....you're basically guaranteed a good grade. This class is hard and you have to keep up with reading the book bc she's ALL over the place in class. Many ppl think she can be unfair at times... Final was 80 T/F questions...
Isn't objective in her grading; will change your grade depending on how much she likes you. Don't bother doing the homework if it's for extra credit, you only get 1 point each (class is out of 1000 points), and it takes about 2-3 hours for each one. Tests are hard. I got an A-
Professor Thomas, or Queen as she likes to be called is an excellent professor. She is very passionate about what she teachers and knows her stuff. Make sure you read the text, or you will be lost when taking exams. There is hw and it takes forever but it is graded on completion. I highly recommend!
If you're an athlete, DEFINITELY TAKE HER. She will love you. If you're not, you've got to work hard. Read the book, do the homework (it actually helps get practice for tests), and you have to go to class.
Queen Daphyne is an extremely nice lady, however, if you want to succeed in this class you have to teach yourself everything. You have to read every chapter before the test and really know it. She goes over hypotheticals in class the whole time and doesn't really teach. She will curve tests and give you points for going to office hours.
Queen Daphyne is a hilarious and nice lady. Business law is extremely hard no matter who you take, but she makes class time fun.
Firstly, I loathe business law, but Dr. Thomas is a solid professor. Most of the lectures were her going over case studies and challenging us to think about what principle of law applies where. Pop quizzes annoyed me. Tests are very difficult so READ READ READ. She also experimented here and there with the honors section. Not a bad choice.
Queen Daphyne is a great teacher. She really cares about her students. She sets the class up so that you are pretty much guaranteed a B with minimal work. 4 tests and three video projects given over the semester that count as a test. So she basically gives you a free A for a test. She is a funny lady and one of the better blaw teachers. Take her.
She is the best! Makes the class really interesting and is so awesome while doing it. Loved going to class with her. She is a hard grader and her tests are extremely hard if you do not read the textbook and understand the concepts.
Really funny and I liked going to class. You really have to read the textbook because she only covers about 25% of the material that you need to know for the tests. Lots of extra credit to bump up your test scores.
Professor Thomas is The 218 professor. She is knowledgeable and understanding. You'll have to read the text and her lectures + PPTs only cover the high points of what you need to know. Don't forget to do the HW. Take her if you can. There's sometimes EC and she is not as stingy with points as many. 218 does warrant some memorization but it's ok.
She has a very arrogant vibe about her. the final is extremely hard because she makes it completely cumulative. unlike other professors, the only final exam review she gave was the previous power points that were basically just portions of the text book. Which has nothing to do with the actual hypothetical questions the tests where based on.
Her contracts, sales and transactions class this semester wasn't terribly difficult, but she just could not teach to save her life. Compounded with her entitled attitude, I just could not see any point to showing up to her class for reasons other than homework collection and quizzes. Tests weren't too hard, but just don't count on learning in class
Don't take this class. too much reading, and unclear and boring lecture. stupid homework.
Such a sweet and fun lady, kept us laughing all the time! This class is so easy but you do have to keep up with the reading to know what is up. Do the homework because she will call on you in class at least once.
"Queen Daphyne" is one of my favorite professors at JMU. She gives real life examples in class, extra credit for each test (DO IT), and makes the effort to learn your name and care about you. Homework takes forever, but it boosts your grade, and read every word of the book, because that's what her tests are based on. DON'T FORGET TO DO MINDTAP.
