By far the BEST teacher at Valley College. Even if you're not the brightest student she will work with you and help you succeed! You really have to try to do poorly in order to not pass! Very easy class to succeed in. When I took it Fall 2013 it was 3 tests and one group project that made up the grade. Project is pretty simple, if you show up most of the time and pay at least some attention you will have no probelm understanding it. Professor Southgate can come off pretentious at times, but she's honestly a very nice, smart person.

She is very clear in the assignments she gives you, the lecture notes are good and she grades very quickly. I also felt like she was there for the students even though we didn't see her. Final grade was made up of 4 hw assignments and 3 exams I think. Just show up on, be respectful, don't be on your phone please. Swear she will call you out.

Dr. Darby is extremely clear and organized. In Winter, the course is 5 weeks long and separated into 5 modules. Each module consists of a video, a written observation applying theories, a discussion portion, and a 50 question multiple choice exam. The book is useful, but not necessary. Her modules contain PowerPoints. Highly recommend!

If you get overwhelmed by the final paper go to office hours she is very helpful if she sees that you are trying! You get the grade you work for!

I honestly enjoyed this class took her for soc 002 this spring semester. She is an easy grader. One paper throughout the semester. Assignments due by 5 p.m. on Friday's. And make sure to read the chapters she assigns because it helps a lot with her tests.

Professor Southgate is a tough grader. There's no cheating in this class because everything is based on your reading of the online textbook chapters she provides. I had Professor. Southgate for a short 5 week winter class. Although the course was fast paced, I thought it was very manageable. I took two classes with Professor Southgate, a five week course and a full semester. I really enjoyed her classes and material. She was always easy to reach and usually replied within an hour or so. She graded promptly, was very fair, and I would definitely take another class with her.
