Freakenomics class was pretty fun. Class was interesting, with a pure mutiple choice midterm. Felt a bit like high school at times with some of the movies but she was overall a fun teacher. If you show up to class, you should pass
Freakonomics is really fun and interesting, that being said Darcy has the strangest techniques I've ever seen. Her tests are all multiple choice and quizzes were EC but I feel like she wrote her questions while in a questionable state, they rarely made sense. I'd still take this class again though! Gotta love Darcy!
She was an okay teacher. She did not really help much. Could be a little ditzy at times but had really good fashion. I think she was easier than the other macro econ professors so i would suggest her. Tests could be difficult if you just studied the notes
I went to almost all the lectures but it wasn't necessary. Homework (5 sets of practice problems) was very easy (not graded) and for extra credit. Easy online quizzes. I ended up teaching myself things because she wasn't always clear. Nice woman though.
Nice and likes the topic. Can get boring but worth going to class. quizes and exams are worded difficult. reading textbook helps a lot
This class was way harder than it needed to be.
She writes all the notes on the board during each class, which is helpful. But she goes SO fast. The entire class is basically writing a ton and not really absorbing much. You need to read the book and your notes regularly to stay on top of things. She gives 5 homework's for extra credit and weekly online quizzes.
This class is super boring, but it's really easy. Her exams are pretty straight forward. She gives helpful practice problems online on an overpriced website that you have to buy access to for homework and quizzes. She's really nice and willing to help if you have any questions though!
This class was way harder than it needed to be. Felt like I had to teach myself the material many times. Quizzes are all online, homework is for extra credit, but her exams can be difficult. She also speaks in a really low voice so most times it was hard for me to hear her, let alone stay awake in her class. She's really nice though.
If you can choose another teacher, then do it. She goes very fast and the classes are useless. You need to read the book all on yourself. and you need to write a paper.
Dr. Hartman is an awesome professor but an even better teacher, probably one of the best I've had in college so far. She breaks the material down and is more than willing to help students that need extra help.
Good professor to have if you are not majoring in Econ because she is pretty easy. She is a super nice person but not an interesting lecturer. Classes are pretty boring. fairly easy A.
Fun to work with and so hawt
Easy class. All you had to do was read the book and you can get a very high grade. Her lectures can be boring, but she is good at explaining if you need help.
Excellent professor. She is very clear about her expectations and provides students with many opportunities to get a good grade. Her midterms are fairly easy and straightforward. Tries to keep lectures interesting for the most part.
She is boring and class is really long and useless. Online quizzes each week are easy. You have a paper to write. Midterms are just alright; not entirely difficult, but not super easy. Once again, she is very boring!
Dr. Hartman is a great teacher. I think she does an excellent job of breaking down the material. This class is extremely easy if you give a damn and pay attention. Hartman is sweet and attractive in a Mother ILFy kind of way. All you have to do is take notes and go to recitation. I got As on all of the midterms and I didn't have to take the final.
Super easy class if you pay attention in lecture or study the book. Got As on all midterms and didn't have to take the final. She's really nice and her lectures explain the subject matter well.
Means well, but class is mostly just her reading the slides that get put on Carmen. Biggest warning is this class has one speed: Fast! Don't count on getting all the day's notes during lecture, it won't happen. The class will also stay at this speed throughout the whole semester except for test days and the day right before.
She's pretty good for someone who has to teach 535 students, and she's personable too. My biggest complaint is that I don't think she turns up the microphone enough in that big hall. Sometimes she goes over material a bit quickly, but overall it's definitely manageable.
She means well, but during her lectures she essentially just reads the class the slides provided by the textbook. The pace of the class is very fast, there is not much time to take notes, but I guess that's okay because you'll have access to the powerpoints. I would not take another one of her classes.
The class was a mess, she even admitted she wasn't prepared to teach an online class and did not like the program quizzes and ended up adjusting the course half way through. She does not provide help or feed back just one video per week where she does a very easy problem, nothing like the exams. DO NOT AKE THIS COURSE ONLINE.
This class was an easy A with Darcy, her lectures are clear (even though she does move fast) and midterms are not difficult and grading for the class is easy. The final was just like the midterms! Take Macro with Darcy!
Darcy is a wonderful lady and very kindcaring. If you get an A or A- on the three multiple choice midterms you dont have to take the final. She is understanding and easy to talk to in office hours. The book is a must to do good. Read it. TAs are completely useless.
Dr. Hartman is a very approachable and kind professor. Her tests are fair and there is a lot of extra credit available. Sometimes her notes are a bit unstructured, so reading the book definitely helps. Overall not a terribly difficult class.
She pretty much just reads off the slides during lecture and her microphone isn't loud enough, so lecture is really boring. I didn't really listen in class and I just studied a lot for the midterms. Just do your homework, do the quizzes, go to recitation, & really study what she puts on the midterm reviews and you should be fine!
Everything is pretty much straight from the book. Midterms aren't that bad. Lots of extra credit, easy A.
Difficult to listen to because of her somewhat monotone voice.
Nice but, Lectures are boring and PPTs not helpful. IF YOU READ THE TEXT you do not need to go to lecture. She drops your lowest midterm score. The final was REALLY easy. There is weekly online homework and quizzes. (Quiz answers are online sometimes or directly from textbook.) Recitation is mandatory and not helpful. Just read the text for an A...
For lectures, she speeds through the Powerpoint slides, but they're on Carmen, so lecture is virtually pointless. Recitation is mandatory and also useless. As long as you review the slides and read the textbook, you shouldn't have much of a problem. The midterms are super easy and there are extra credit questions.
She means well. The class is easy enough. Aced all the midterms and did not have to take the final. She does go very quickly through lectures and her ppts contain a lot of text. Very difficult to take notes in lecture. Make sure you read the book and go to recitation. Overall though, you'll be fine with Hartman. No reason to switch.
Dr. Hartman is a great professor. She is very interested in our current economy, and she regularly prints out articles of things going on in the real world and we read them in class. There were 6 homework assignments that you do for extra credit. There is one group project and one individual research paper, but she is a lenient grader. Take her!
Enjoyed thoroughly.
I really like this professor, she is funny and she generally gives good feedback
I'll admit it, her lectures aren't the most interesting. However, she's very helpful when you reach out to her and she doesn't try to throw you any curve balls on her tests. If you're looking for an easier econ class, Darcy is the way to go.
ECON2002.01 (Macroeconomics) is a college class taught at a 6th grade level. Every midterm is a joke. I made a quizlet from the study guides (the folders are called "OSU ECON2002.01 Midterm 1, 2, and 3" respectively if you want to use them) and got an A every time. Skim the textbook and you'll be fine. Lecture attendance is not mandatory.
Midterms are super easy as long as you read the material. Lectures are extremely boring and unnecessary - if you read the text you won't need to attend. However, extra credit questions on the midterms are over facts she mentions during class that you likely would not know otherwise. Overall, the class is very easy and not much work is needed.
Took the online version of this course. Pearson online was used for the textbook/homework/quizzes. The lectures and slides are very helpful and straightforward, but there were many conceptual questions that were answered in the textbook only.
Really nice lady. Don't bother going to lectures because she has to speed through the power points and they are online anyways. Read the book and go to the Econ Learning center for help. All of the midterms are easy and the extra credit questions do come from the lecture. Make sure to do all of the online quizzes and homework too.
Her lectures are pointless. I got an A for the class with only reviewing from ppts she uploads. She basically reads off the ppts during the lecture, which makes her lectures extremely boring. Gives extra credit and bonus questions though along with super easy exams.
Makes you do one group project and one research paper, but she's an easy grader. There are three midterms but if you ace them all then you don't have to take the final, otherwise your lowest exam grade is dropped. There is extra credit opportunities. I never bought the textbook and I aced all the midterms and got an easy A.
Amazing professor! Her lectures are consistently interesting (if macroeconomics interests you) and taking this class definitely helped me decide on economics as my business specialization. Her exams are relatively simple and straight-forward, so as long as you make a reasonable effort, an A is definitely attainable. Definitely one of my favorites.
She literally reads through the slides. I don't even listen because her voice is annoying. I think the online version is much easier because the review guide is the final exam. Super easy.
I wish I got paid to show up and teach the textbook slideshows that come standard with our access code like Darcy does. She rushes through the slides and just reads off of them. Lectures aren't helpful, only for extra credit. Exams are fairly straightforward and as long as you read the book/power points/ go to recitation you'll do just fine.
Easy A. Never taken a more easier class. Professor Hartman gives so much extra credits! You don't need to go the lectures, just study the ppts! I did that and finished with a 98%. She gives a total of 3 midterms + a final and drop your lowest grates! :)
I went to lecture like 3 times this whole semester. She really does read off the ppt so you can just watch the podcast. She's a nice lady but I just wish she could explain a little more rather than just reading the ppt. But if you need help, I'm sure she'll be more than willing to help you. Its a easy class if you put a good amount of time into it.
She appeared very disorganized and rushed through most of her slides every class. Recitation is required and is worth 5% of your grade give 5% extra credit. Don't go to class just read the book and you will be fine. Easy A.
shes really boring to listen to. don't.
She is the worst. Do not go to class.
Dr. Hartman knows her stuff. There were 4 tests lowest one dropped. Those were 90% of your grade. Go to lecture and you'll do fine. Tests will test your understanding of the topic. She provides study guides, online aids, lecture supplements, and practice tests.
She is really good! She's nice in office hours, actually helps and doesn't seem annoyed. Exams are easy. 25 questions each. Offers up to 5% of extra credit. Speaks English. Personally I'm doing a lot better in macro than micro. She decided to switch to a $24 textbook from the $150--really awesome. Applies concepts to real world.
Prof. Hartman was an easy teacher who did not care if you came to class. Her exams were easy and she loves to give extra credit. There were group presentations and a paper but other than that most points came from exams
Darcy is a really nice woman who knows her stuff, but she is not the best lecturer. I went to every lecture and found that she simply read directly from the slides without actually teaching anything. I did well on the exams only because I learned everything from my TA and taught myself.
Professor Hartman makes it really easy for you to pass the class if you attend lecture. Even if you don't, she posts online lectures and powerpoints so that you can catch up if you miss lecture. Overall, she was always really happy when she was talking about economics and talked about current events that corresponded with curriculum well.
Dr. Hartman is a really nice person. She gives out extra credit for doing 5/6 of the homework assignments and sometimes for showing up to class when not a lot of people are there. Her lectures can be boring when she is reading off the PowerPoints. There is a group project and a paper, but as someone else mentioned, she is a lenient grader.
I took this class online and found it to be pretty easy. Not much homework at all, and the exams were similar in difficulty to the practice exams she posted. She also offered over 5% extra credit in the class. I would highly recommend taking this class online.
Pretty good professor very laid back & easy going, go to lecture and you can receive up to 5% extra credit, tests are pretty easy and all multiple choice with two bonus questions on every test. Definitely would recommend Darcy if you have to take macro, also takes your 3 best test scores (/4) so you can get out of taking a final
Darcy was a decent professor. She lectures a lot and goes off on tangents frequently. If you go to lecture and/or read the book you should get an A easily. There are 4 exams that make up 90% of your grade and you drop the lowest one.
She is a fantastic teacher.
Grossly unorganized and scatter-brained. Really annoying and goes way too fast. Would not recommend.
So she makes these powerpoints that are unrelated to the test half of the time and in class she is either sprinting through the powerpoint, or writing on a piece of paper some random graphs that are super confusing but the tests aren't too hard and if you go to class, tophat is worth 5% extra credit
Easy exams. But hard to learn. She makes everything more difficult to understand, and lectures have no logic at all.
Going to lectures gets you the extra credit through answering tophat questions, although, the lectures are often confusing and rushed. She also posts her lectures online so if you can't go you can watch them later. I had to use outside resources to understand the material because she was not super clear when explaining topics.
You can receive up to 6% bonus just for doing the top hat questions and SEI. The tests were not super hard, and there were only 25 questions + 2 extra credit questions on each midterm. There are three midterms and a final, but the lowest grade is dropped. Recitation counts for participation, but they drop 2 of them.
Absolutely ridiculous that 90% of your grade is from exams- definitely the worst professor I've had so far
Not a great professor at all. Teaching style isn't beneficial to any type of learner, she will keep you past class end time, exams are easy, but her grading scale is messed up. Grades get curved down.
Unless you think you need extra credit, you don't have to go to lecture. She records them and puts them on Carmen, and material is easy to understand if you study it. Exams are very easy and one is dropped. Recitation assignments have little effect on grade. Don't bother buying the textbook because all information/concepts can just be googled.
Macro with Darcy was pretty easy. She structured the class very well and stuck to the syllabus. The lectures were often boring but informative. There are numerous extra credit opportunities provided. The exams are super easy (all multiple choice) and you drop your lowest exam at the end of the semester.
She throws out terms, formulas, and concepts without explaining them and expects us to know what they mean. She does the same lecture style for every class and I have to force myself to go. She is horrible at TEACHING she just flies through material and thinks we understand what the hell is going on. I have to go to tutoring for this class
I went to class, read the textbook and did well. You have 3 exams and a final and she drops your lowest grade. She posts review exam before an exam that are REALLY helpful for studying. Honestly, just put in the time reading the textbook and watching AC/DC economics videos and you will do well in the class. Not hard at all.
I'm a first year taking macroecon and this class is a breeze. There are weekly online quizzes and graded recitations. Lecture is about 400 large and you have an opportunity to earn extra credit each class lecture. Easy content, not much memorization, some what math based.
I thought she was an awesome teacher that really cared about her students. She posts all the lecture videos online and offers extra credit through Top Hat
This class was a breeze with Darcy Hartman. Her exams and quizzes are based exactly off the lecture slides. Tons of extra credit (even for just attending lecture and answering the Top Hat questions!) Drops one of your exams. She's an alright lecturer, and the ones who actually listen and ask questions seem to understand what she's talking about.
Professor Hartman posts a lot of great study material for each midterm. If you utilize this, you will do fine in the class.
Darcy was a good professor, I guess. Better than most macroecon professors. Her midterms were easy (especially considering you can drop one or if you score above a 90 on all three you can skip the final). She gave a few extra credit points. BUT, you HAVE to go to this class. She does a lot of verbal and chalkboard notes, and doesn't post slides.
As long as you show up to class and do the review materials before each midterm you'll get the grade you want! Easily the best choice for Macro at Ohio State. She also drops lowest midterm score, so most likely you don't need to take the final.
I'm glad I took the honors section of micro. Hartman moves very quickly so you must always pay attention and write fast. One online quiz per week, six homework packets, three midterms (one dropped), a paper, and an optional extra credit paper. Get an A on every midterm, get exempt from final. Very fair course, and I found Hartman to be enjoyable.
Darcy Hartman is a nice lady, but there are a few things that really annoyed me with her lectures. She goes way too fast and writes tiny on actual paper with no slides rather than on powerpoint. The paper lecture wouldn't be so bad except she's LEFT HANDED so you have to wait to be able to see what to write! Other than that, lots of extra credit!
Honestly, if you show up and answer questions in class, and do your SEIs, you have a 6% bonus. That tells you all you need to know. If you look at the practice exams you will at least get an A- since the questions are very similar (as are the answers). She isnt helpful, but she explains stuff moderately well and her class is easier than pre-K.
She is great! All the class materials are posted on Carmen. The exams are easy quizzes are easy. She's patient and well-organized. The attendance is not mandatory. There are many bonus and extra credits! Don't miss it!
If you want an easy A take her. If you actually want to learn econ don't take her.
Easy A
One of the easiest As I've ever received. Gives TONS of study materials for exams. She drops one exam so taking the final is completely optional. Taking notes in her class is extremely difficult because she is all over the place but I did learn from her. Definitely take her if you have to take macroeconomics.
Probably the most scatter brained person I know. Dont even both going to lecture because half the time shes just repeating/writing down what she said last class but in a different unorganized way. Tests are pretty easy if you look at her practice tests she puts online.
Super clear and precise lectures. A little boring at times, but offered 6% extra credit at the end of the semester which made me end up with 106% in the class. Show up and take notes and it's an easy A.
Dr. Hartman was a wonderful professor. She is very understanding and easy to work with. Some concepts can be challenging but her lectures are easy to understand, and she will take the time to help you if you are confused. You get to drop one midterm, and there is an opportunity for 5% extra credit--if you put in the work you will get an A.
Econ isn't the most interesting subject to me, but macro was by far much more enjoyable than micro. The tests are fairly easy & she posts many practice midterms for each. Lowest midterm gets dropped. Weekly quizzes that are fairly easy & the recitation worksheets count, so make sure to do them. TopHat extra credit is offered at the end& helps a ton
Wasn't a super interesting class but wasn't hard either. Gives a TON of extra credit and drops the lowest test
Had the pleasure of taking both micro and macro with Dr. Hartman. The large lecture hall format sucks, but videos of lecture are posted online, nice to rewatch or if you miss class. Try not to miss class due to extra credit questions every lecture. Exams are all multiple choice. Take notes, study given practice stuff, go to class, you can get an A.
I took the online version of the class so I cannot speak a ton about Darcy herself. I did visit her during office hours and she was nice/helpful. She posts online lectures, notes, narrated powepoints, etc. The weekly homework and quizzes are pretty easy as long as you read the material. There is a semi-long paper. The tough part is the two exams.
It's not that hard to get a good grade in Prof. Hartman's class since she provides plenty of extra credit. She definitely cares about teaching and knows what she's talking about. My biggest qualm with this class was that it was hard to connect lectures with recitation, quiz, and exam content.
Very easy class. Professor Hartman provides everything you need to do well on the exams. Attendance only counts for extra credit, and she posts videos of lectures and scans of notes online.
Darcy is a good professor. Very clear in her expectations and grading criteria. Lectures are not mandatory, but if you go and answer the TopHat questions each day, there's a chance to get 6% extra credit, which bumped me from a B to an A-. The midterms are fairly easy, and you can drop your lowest score between midterms/final. Definitely recommend.
Professor Hartman is definitely a lecturer and they don't really make sense unless you read the textbook or have former background knowledge of the information already. Her exams are okay, as long as you do the practice exam problems and UNDERSTAND the CONCEPTS. Definitely ATTEND LECTURE FOR TOPHAT. She's a good professor, just difficult to follow.
Darcy's lectures are not very interesting, however, she provides material on Carmen so you'll succeed in class. You can get up to 5% on your final grade with TopHat questions in class, and she adds two questions on every exam so you can get up to 8% added to your exam grade. Look at previous exams when studying as she uses similar questions!
She is a really a good teacher, her class is organized well, she usually cares about students and she is very patient to answer students' questions. More important, she has many extra credits that you can easy to earn an A.
After taking this class, I realized Economics was not my thing. Although the class was a bit boring and somewhat difficult at points, Dr Hartman really helps out through multiple extra credit opportunities and simply being a nice teacher that is willing to help. The lectures are a bit monotonous in my opinion, but it's doable.
Although she is a likeable person her lectures and lecture notes are very unorganized in confusing. She also is left handed so it is hard to keep up with her writing as it is usually covered by her hand. Not the best professor but not the worst.
She isn't exactly a thrilling teacher, but she grades fairly and gives opportunity to understand the material. Lectures are honestly not important because she is so boring that you're not going to learn anything anyway, so just do it at home.
Unorganized, writes down notes as she speaks - tough to listen, doesn´t go into detail a lot
Among the honors professors for economics, she is by far the best. Her lectures are a bit dry but she posts everything on Carmen and by reading Carmen material and online textbook you will be fine. Extra credit and 3 midterms with one being dropped. Accessible and helpful. Recommend her if you take honors economics
She's not the greatest teacher but compared to most other economics teachers she's a superstar. She's very nice and willing to help and one of the few econ teachers without an accent. Overall solid class
Compared to other Econ teachers, shes the one to take. She offers lots of extra credit too. Lectures are boring and confusing, she doesnt do a great job explaining things, but you can meet with her or read the textbook and you will figure it out. Exams werent bad either.
I loved Dr. Hartman. Great prof and funny. Class setup is 4 exams, a quiz due every Tues., and a worksheet due in recitation. She drops your lowest exams and only keeps 10 worksheets. She also does tophat in lecture for extra credit. Lectures are basically her writing notes and you copying, but she also posts notes after.
I thought that she was a very good lecturer. I thought that they were fairly entertaining and if you did enough outside work, it wouldn't be hard to get an A.
For an honors Econ class, this was very easy. I felt like I learned a lot throughout the semester without feeling overwhelmed. I would take any of her classes that she offers. She is by far the best principles of micro/macro professor
Dr. Hartman is a very caring professor. She wants everyone to get a good grade and offers a lot of extra credit. Tests arent too difficult, but can be a time crunch if you arent totally prepared. Online weekly quizzes and bi-weekly written homework There is a group project and a semi-interesting current events paper.
Lectures can be boring at times along with recitations, but overall great class. What you put in is what you get out.
Great choice for Econ. Took online and grading was clear and was easily accessible if I had any questions. Several different things due throughout the semester but none are overwhelming. Do the assignments and halfway study for the tests and youll be fine
She's a good professor however, she can be a bit dry a times and her lecture notes skim over a lot of important information without going into detail. Very easy to contact if you have questions over the material. She drops the lowest test score so most people don't have to take the final which is nice.
Class is so easy, just study a little for the exams. She drops an exam and has up to 10% bonus on them. I didn't go to class so I can't comment on the lectures, but she seems nice and is more than fair.
Good prof! There's only 3 exams and a final, but she drops your lowest exam grade. The lectures can be dry, slightly unorganized, and she can go a little quick. However, all lectures are posted online along with her notes. She gives extra credit for going to class. Practice exams help a lot with the exams; just study a little and you'll be fine.
For the online class, there were two weekly assignments. The tests were somewhat hard, but she offered extra credit.
Dr. Hartman is an extremely caring professor. The majority of the class is long lectures that tend to be boring, however, the assignments are easy to do well on and she offers opportunities for extra credit. Overall the best economics professor I have had and if you take the time to get to know Dr. Hartman, the class is quite fun.
Took both honors versions for 2001.03 and 2002.03 and she is the best one. Exams are not too bad and she gives extra credit papers which helps a lot. Not a lot of homework and she posts all lecture notes right after class concludes. Highly recommend.
Lectures are pretty dry, hw assignments are pretty helpful. Also gives many extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Hartman was one of my favorite professors. Her class consisted of weekly homework problems, a midterm, and a final. Exams were easy if you used her study guide. She gave us so many chances for extra credit. I learned a lot in her class and would not hesitate to take another class with her. Overall, do the work and there is no way you can fail.
Dr. Hartman is a good professor but her lectures are so boring. They are just screenshots from the textbook so its redundant to take notes on the pre lecture videos, textbook, and during the live lecture. A possible of 4 easy points of EC at the end, but 50% of grade is on midterm and final.
Overall a great class and I learned so much. The only thing that can be a little tricky are the tests. The material wasn't too difficult but if you have spotty internet or a slow computer and it crashes for whatever reason during a test, you're out of luck. makes sense since this class is known for cheating but can be a little nerve wracking.
Dr. Hartman is a pretty decent professor. While she clearly wants as many students as possible to succeed in this intro-level course--streamlining & simplifying everything--I was personally somewhat disappointed as an econ student in its unchallenging nature. Also, her lectures do not cover everything so referring to the textbook is a must.
I took the fully online class. Assignments/tests aren't too bad.
Tons of extra credit opportunities, easy HW, and solid lectures. Exams make up 50% of your grade, but as long as you attend lectures and study, you will get an A. Great professor and great person all around.
She made the lectures optional for extra credit. She's not a great lecturer but she provides you with a ton of materials to prepare you for tests (an overwhelming amount IMO). Half of you grade is based off of two tests, which made it a very stressful class, but not too difficult.
If you want to take Econ, TAKE DR. HARTMAN. She's the best professor you could ever take, that is if you put in the effort of course. She falls nothing short of giving you everything you need to succeed, you just need to work for it. Amazing lectures and gives out extra credit opportunities
Dr. Hartman tried her best to make the class interesting despite the fact that it's an intro/GE class for most people. The tests are not bad if you pay attention to the lectures and do some studying beforehand. The online homework assignments are a little tedious but a great way to earn some easy points. She gives lots of extra credit too.
Lectures can be boring but have good information you should know. Shes almost always willing to elaborate on subjects so dont be afraid to ask. Decent amount of work but you have a long time period to get it done and its more time consuming than it is difficult.
Darcy was a great professor. She seems very knowledgable and teaches the class in a way the students understand the material. Exams do make up the majority of your grade, but you get to drop one exam at the end of the semester... so I didn't have to take the final.
I really enjoyed Dr. Hartman's class. Was a 6-week summer class so it was self-paced, but she did a really good job breaking down all of the information in the lectures, which made the homework and assignments much easier. She made sure she was accessible to students. The paper was graded fairly and the 2 exams were not overly difficult.
Darcy was solid, she explained everything very clearly. Recitation can be a mixed bag, it depends who you get. Make sure to do the hw assignments on time, they act as the only buffer against exams (however, they are easy) Basically, if you have darcy for macro, you'll be okay.
As with most intro classes at OSU, it is difficult to reach Dr. Hartman. Although, she was very open to meeting with me outside of class when I contacted her. She was very nice and receptive during our conversation. The class is not super difficult, but I recommend reading the textbook. Students struggled if they did not read. I enjoyed her!
Not the most engaging lecturer but just read the book and do the practice problems on time and you'll be in the clear. Plenty of opportunities for EC and straightforward tests too.
Hartman is definitely one of the better Econ professors at OSU. Her lectures could be a little hard to follow sometimes, so I always read the chapters before class. Her exams were pretty fair (studying & attending class was definitely necessary). The group project & paper were actually fun to complete. She gave us plenty of extra credit too!
The lectures arent mandatory but she is entertaining so its not boring to watch. The exams are open note and the homework grades are really easy
Hartman definitely falls into the "chaotic good" category. Her lectures are basically just semi-confusing rants but the textbook is good and her tests are open note. She really does try to make her class entertaining. She also gives a ton of extra credit.
Great professor. Sometimes goes a little fast through slides, but always uploads the necessary resources to carmen. Put in the minimal work, you'll be fine. Go to recitation, it's usually helpful. Prof. Hartman is a nice lady and is probably one of the most 'fun' professors i've had when it comes to personality.
Darcy gets very sad if people don't show up or participate in class, but she's an absolutely sweet and lovely person, so please don't make her sad. Lectures are straight from the textbook, which allowed me to get pretty far in Candy Crush. Not an easy A, but definitely accomplishable if you put the work in.
Darcys fine. I dont like or understand economics, so keep that in mind. Attendance/Participation get you extra credit. Tests are multiple choice but hard. 50% of grade is just midterm and final exams. If you space out for a second, youll be lost. Shes a fast talker. But she knows her stuff. Take notes (tests are open note).
She definitely gives you the opportunity to succeed and really cares about her students. Sometimes her lectures can be a bit dry, but she tries to spice things up by having students present and bringing in guest lecturers.
Dr. Hartman is passionate and cares about her students. Even for someone who doesn't like Econ, if you read the textbook and pay attention at least somewhat in lectures, you will be fine. Lots of extra credit and could usually use notes on exams.
Darcy is a very good professor, in my opinion. She is a very lecture-heavy teacher so if you are able to pay attention she makes things very clear. She posts all of the lectures online and doesn't' take attendance. If you watch live she offers extra credit. There's online homework due bi-weekly that is easy, and 3 midterms of moderate difficulty.
Never attended lecture and taught myself out of the textbook. From what I remember she was pretty rude and the lectures weren't very informative.
She's a great teacher who gives plenty of extra credit and lets you drop your lowest score. Lectures can get confusing so it is important to study a lot before exams. Study the notes she posts.
Honestly the worst lecturer I have ever had. She talks so slowly and monotone it was difficult to remain awake. She uses prewritten notes that are posted on carmen and then rewrites them in class. On the plus side she does offer a lot of opportunities to improve your grade and attendance is not required, but I could not stand being in her class.
This was held online or inperson. She offered extra credit through TopHat and I got 3 extra points at the end of the semester. She's pretty nice and I attended online. Exams were straightforward as long as you do the homework and practice questions. Exam 3 was pretty hard out of all of them. Your lowest exam score is dropped. HWs are dropped too.
Awesome person and professor. Take notes and study a decent amount and she's very willing to work with you to get an A. Plenty of extra credit available too.
if you take this during the summer (6 wks) its not easy. its very crammed and difficult. BI seriously cant be happier to have this class over with. with that being said, Darcy is great. exams are kind of tricky but you get two attempts. take it during the full semester, not 6 weeks and it will be a breeze.
Not a hard class but just a boring subject. Great professor overall.
Professor Hartman was extremely fun to learn from! Her enthusiasm and charisma made the course interesting and even fun to me. Conetent wise, it was not extremely difficulty. I found it easier than micro. There were also ample opportunities for extra credit, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed her class and would 100% recommend taking her!
Dr. Hartman is very nice and helpful when you go to office hours. The exams are a little harder than the homework but as long as you do the reviews you will be fine. The lowest exam score drops too which is nice.
Her lectures are very helpful and she does a great job of going through the material at a good pace. The material can get confusing a lot, but she does a good job of explaining it and she encourages you to go to her office hours. She tries to connect with her students, even if it's over 800. Sit towards the front if you can.
Such an organized class, which makes sense given how many people take it. Very responsive over email, lots of provided resources to learn in different ways
Absolutely love Dr. Hartman. She really helped me love learning about a subject I normally found boring. She made it super easy to follow along with class discussions. I definitely will take micro with her in the future, as well.
She really cares about her students and wants them to be successful. It is easy to get a good grade in this class. She definitely makes the lectures interesting and adds her perspective in her classes.
Great professor, but the subject is boring overall so people didn't pay attention and there was always so much side chatter. Makes it difficult for people who actually want to learn to focus. However, a lot of information in her lectures can be self-taught through online homework.
This class was difficult don't get me wrong. But, she actually taught the material. The first exam I completely failed, but I worked hard on the next two and didn't have to take the final. She also offers a TON of extra credit.
Hartman was amazing and a great lecturer. Use the textbook when studying as most of the exam questions can be understood if you read the textbook. Exams are taken in the same room as 700+ people so take online if this will make you uncomfortable but overall a really great class and definitely manageable if you put in the time and effort.
Dr. Hartman was amazing! The online lecture videos were easy to follow and she explained every topic in depth. There was a textbook to go along with the course, but I did not find it 100% necessary--I only ever read it for extra clarification on topics and mostly learned everything through the lecture videos alone.
I was .5 pts off from getting an A- in the class (feel weird posting since it looks like so many people got As), but Darcy was great. I STRONGLY recommend watching her online lectures. I literally watched one right before an exam and everything on the exam for that lecture was on there. I got 5 EC points from going to most lectures and doing SEIs.
It would have been better if completed slides are given. I didn't like the facts that Check Your Understanding takes my point away. Also, If research paper is 3 pages long which also requires proper citations, it should have taken up at least 25% of your grade treated same as other exams.
Dr. Hartman is a queen. Getting a good grade in her classes is not hard. Show up to lecture, take notes, and pay attention and you can get an A. She offers a good amount of extra credit every semester. Pay attention to her syllabus, too! I took two of her classes and both dropped the final exam if you had a good grade in the course.
Microeconomics can be a very boring and basic subject, so it was very good to have someone concise and engaging like Dr. Hartman as my professor. For a 3-credit class, the homework was light and the exams (which are unfortunately weighted 60%) netted around a B-average. Dr. Hartman provided many resources and was overall a very helpful professor.
stickin out youe gyatt for the jeff Bsuer aahhh HAAILL NAAHHH
She clearly cares about her students and gives all the tools to be successful. She gives a study guide for every exam along with recorded lectures every week. She also gives a few extra credit opportunities.
5% percent extra credit + lowest exam dropped + best professor for macro
Dr. Hartman is an amazing professor. She tested out a new textbook this semester, but I really liked getting her insight into things and she made the content super easy to digest. Big extra credit opportunities, lowest exam score dropped, and lots of little completion assignments make it really easy to do well if you try.
Darcy is a great professor! Lectures can feel boring and repetitive but as long as you go to class, follow what she writes on the screen, and take notes, you'll be fine. There are multiple opportunities for extra credit and you can drop an exam. Quizzes and homeworks are easy. I mainly filled out the study guides and created quizlets to study.
Took this online in Newark, so I have never actually met the professor. The class was very straightforward, read a chapter once a week, do the assignments for that chapter, and do a discussion post every 3 weeks. I am taking her again for 2002 next year, so I'm sure she is an amazing professor.
Dr. Hartman was overall a good professor. She gave extra credit, posted recorded lectures online, and dropped low exam grades, quiz grades, homework grades, and recitation grades. She went a little fast during some lectures, but that may have just been me. I was in a 700-person lecture, and she often stopped teaching to tell people to be quiet.
Dr. Hartman was an amazing teacher for the ONLINE section of 2002. She answers any emails/questions promptly and did a great job connecting with students even though they were online. She is very friendly and caring.
Dr. Hartman is overall a good professor! I was in her mega-macro section with around 700 students, but it was fairly easy for me to follow along. If you listen and participate in class, you will be fine. The exams are not the easiest but it isn't uncommon for her to curve them. There is also a lot of opportunity for extra credit.
Was in a 700 person lecture. She usually taught too fast or didn't explain things in depth enough. Recitation was terribly challenging and exams were worse. Dont worry she curves, but it didn't help me not feel lost in lecture. Usually went home and taught myself everything again. super nice but I think the 700 person lecture worked against her.
Dr. Hartman is one of the most fair Macro professors you will have. I was in the 700 person lecture- she sometimes went a little too fast or didn't focus on a difficult topic for long enough, but her lectures paired with your recitation will give you all the tools needed. Also, the tests have insane curves and the lowest test gets dropped.
The class was hard because Econ is hard. When you take the course online, there are many resources, but you have to use them to do well. I recommend taking it in person; getting extra help is hard if you take the class online. She drops the three lowest quizzes and homework assignments. There is also an extra credit assignment with 4% added.
This class was a piece of cake. Ez concepts and she is an awesome teacher. Up to 5% extra credit points at the end of the class. Practice exams match real exams. If you can take Darcy, do it.
Dr. Hartman's ECON2002 class is manageable if you stay engaged. Lectures can move quickly, but her generous grading policies and Unstuckstudy make it easier to succeed. Worth taking if you need the credit.
Easy gen ed class. Lectures were decent. If you take notes and do the homework, you'll ace the exams. She drops the lowest exam score, and there's 5% extra credit.
Dr. Hartman is a very nice a great teacher. As long as you put in some sort of effort in studying the exams are not bad at all. There is also a group project and final paper but they are graded lightly.
Highly recommend, fantastic professor and lecturer. She provides a study guide of each midterm exam that are nearly identical to the actual exams.
Hartman is a good lecturer that really explains the concepts really well. The class consists of 3 midterms and an optional final exam with assignments on MyEconLab. As long as you somewhat pay attention and put in the work it's an easy A. There's also Tophat extra credit so take advantage of that during lecture.
She's so bad at explaining stuff, but the tests are easier than the classwork and homework. If you actually want to understand the class, then pick another teacher
She is a kind lady but can sometime come off snappy, exams were difficult, top hat extra credit was always stressful to get turned in but helped me end the class with an A
Took this class for 4001.01. One of the worst professors at OSU. Can't explain concepts and expects us to know econ already coming into the class, even if our only time was a few years ago. Take my advice, absolutely horrible, just take the calc version at least there is a curve!
Lectures are optional and posted online, but extra credit is given through topcoat quizzes in class. Exams are 60% of your grade, but your lowest score is dropped. I definitely recommend using previous exams to practice. Darcy is a good lecturer if you pay attention, take, notes, and apply yourself. Overall an easy class if you put in the work.
She was nice and the class was fairly easy. All I really have to say is I thought she could be really annoying. She loses her mind any time she hears anyone talking in lecture... which I can appreciate to some extent but at some point her pointing it out is more distracting than the actual people talking. Otherwise, solid class.
very reasonable grader, take online course if you feel like you have good self-direction. always helpful and responds to emails of questions within a short amount of time, and also gives extra credit opportunities to boost your overall grade
I was in a 700-person lecture hall with her. She stopped the lecture so often to yell at people for talking during the class. Personally, the homework didn't help me at all, and recitations didn't help me either, since we just did a worksheet for 20 minutes and went over that. Tests are not bad if you do the practice tests.
Good lectures, assignments due weekly, 3 midterms and an optional final. Stops the lecture about 5 times every class to tell people to stop talking.
She wasn't the best teacher at times but the class is still pretty easy and the Exams were very easy
She gives us plenty of detailed notes, which makes studying so much easier. Plus, there are extra credit opportunities that can really help improve your grade. I genuinely love having her as a professor!
I really love her!!!! The exams are so easy!!!
She is the nicest I have ever seen.
Darcy Hartman is by far the best Macro Econ prof at OSU. She genuinely cares for her students' success in the class. Lectures and recitations are a bit boring at times, but the weekly quizzes we received the answers for, so not difficult. To prep for the test, just read the textbook and do the practice tests. If you took Micro, this is a lay-up.
So many formulas don't learnt anything in class so tired
she lowkey a retired baddie for giving extra credit
Definitely one of the better professors I've had. I took both 2002 and 2001 with her and both seemed pretty fair and wasn't hard. She is pretty chill and her lectures are pretty easy to follow.
Great professor. She does a good job of actually explaining the material rather than reading off slides. Homework is very doable as long as you stay on top of it. Also had 3 midterms and a final, with the lowest of the 4 dropping off. Two lowest homework grades also drop off.Attendance can do damage to your grade if you miss too much so try not to.
There is so much extra credit on the exams, the range on the final was 77 to 120. As long as you semi understand the material, you will get an A. Easiest A I've ever gotten in all levels of school.
The professor would get very off topic. She was nice, but not very helpful. The class had a lot of extra credit and you can drop an exam or the final. Overall, homework and the big group project was easy and quick.
