Shes not very understanding of anything, if you accidentally submit the wrong assignment you get a 0 regardless of anything. The grading isnt consistent , tbh compared to all my other instructors Ive had in the past shes almost as strict as my nursing school ones.
I had her for CHM114 recitation. It was partner work with grades based on attendance and in class work scores. She is very helpful in explaining if you have any questions, and holds very helpful exam review sessions outside of class.
Prof Kimball gives off some pretty gnarly energy. She is tough on grading labs, requires too much additional reading on top of the already insane course load, and just really isn't that helpful. Would not suggest taking a class where she is the lab coordinator.
regular, fair lab grading. do not expect to slack out from the lab, pre-lab/post-lab reports are due same date, at first caught by surprise, but she reminds you more than once before the due, fair. go for extra miles to get the report perfect. the lab section is what drags my grade down from low A.
She's literally not helpful in any sort of way. She doesn't care about her students.
She is not helpful as a professor at all. easily one of the toughest classes I have taken and I have taken calc previously... she needs to be more proactive with her students and their questions. her grading is weird. wish someone else taught 116. dreading her
Please be aware that Darcy does not follow accommodations and argues with student and SAILS to make it difficult to do well in course. After not replying to me for flexible deadline accommodation, she waited till 6pm the day after it was due to email saying "I will extend assignment till midnight.' Others received 48 hours for same accommodation.
I think Professor Darcy does the best she can with an online chemistry lab course. I enjoyed the labs we did and her expectations were laid out for you and if you followed you can do very well in the course. My only complaint were the TA's gradings sometimes, they were all over the place.
This instructor is snarky, and the lab instructions are trash. The lab instructions are not to the point, so the hours estimated for the lab to be completed is a lie. They always took me longer because she doesn't know how to properly write out clear lab instructions. The notes provided prior to the lab do not help either. Truly disappointing.
Very difficult professor with strict grading. Be prepared to take proctored exams, 50 question homework, and labs weekly. If you fall behind in this course by an inch, there is no recovery. I would not recommend this course instructor.
Chemistry is difficult for everyone, but she really cares about students and wants them to succeed. Her email responses are very thorough.
Her lectures are great and set up fairly well. You can tell she cares but the amount of work this class requires is borderline insane. There is an exam, a lab, and roughly about 6 hours of homework due weekly. I didn't pass a single exam but she gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Be prepared to spend over $200 for lab materials and books.
Worse course I have ever taken. Horrible. You HAVE to do every SINGLE extra credit if you want to pass. It is ridiculous.
The stress load of this course is intense. You cannot pass this course if you miss any of the extra credit assignments. Extra credits are the only way to pass this course. The lab portion of this course is also difficult because the lab procedures are not clear and there are no lab videos that you can follow during your experiments.
Completely out of her depth teaching these topics. It's as if she's struggling through the material trying to teach it.
This material is graduate-level. Rediculous amount of unnecessary HW and extremely difficult quizzes. What is she trying to prove?
Very heavy course for being 100 level, required an immense amount of work. Not at all self-paced so difficult to fit into a full time working schedule. Kimball offers a lot of extra credit which is nice. Her lectures are good, but she mixes her modules with lecture videos from Dr. Cabraic and his are brief and not thorough.
Energetic professor that makes the class more interesting with her upbeat nature. If you go to the lectures you get free homework answers. She really seems to care about the students and is responsive to poor performance on her tests. Midterms were very difficult but the second part of the class was pretty interesting.
For my first online Chem class, Kimball made it very easy to be successful. Her lectures were relevant to the current material with clearly worked examples to study from. Some old lectures were mixed in to the curriculum that weren't as nice, but it was manageable either way. Overall great to work with from 1800 miles away.
Kimball's lectures were very well put together and easy to understand, probably some of the best I've seen in my online career. Tests and labs were also straightforward to complete. I had some health issues throughout the semester, and she was gracious and understanding with extending deadlines as needed.
Average difficulty for chem, but Professor Kimball is often disorganized and all over the place during her lectures. This made getting through content much harder for everyone. The course is definitely pass-able with the typical level of effort chem courses require. She is very nice and cares about her students, you can tell.
Took Chem 113 as a Junior. This was the worst class I've taken in college (and that's saying a lot considering I'm a STEM major) Professor had TAs explain (90% of lectures and office hours), and I also had the pleasure of taking the course when they're in the middle of revamping it. The professor seems kind, CLASS IS AWFUL and unorganized.
While the course moves fast, that's not the professor's fault. She genuinely wants to help, is open to questions, and provides a lot of extra credit. The course is very difficult. Get ready to say goodbye to your free time since moving through two chapters a week is difficult and doesn't leave room for a personal life.
For a basic beginners chemistry course it was way more difficult than I was personally expecting especially since chm113 was so easy. Definitely prepares you for organic chem, but the content including the lab as it is a 4 credit course was a bit ridiculous. Asking her or the TA's for help was pretty useless as none of them seem to care.
This class is hard but the expectations for it are very clear from the beginning. If you cannot commit to the 25 hours a week needed for the class then don't take it. Dr. Kimball was a great professor and was very generous on grading. There are so many extra credit opportunities but you can't procrastinate on assignments or you will fall behind.
She is genuinely a good teacher! Her teaching is very clear and she does her best to make sure everyone understands the material! She makes the class overall entertaining and provides exam reviews before every exam, along with extra credit discussion boards. I would recommend taking her :)
Professor Kimball always had great lectures that simplified concepts well. She is a kind person and was good in her replying to emails. Before exams, she provides materials for review and would use her own time to do a two hour review session. Please disregard any poor ratings of kimball, as they are untrue and probably from disengaged students.
I really liked Professor Kimball- shes super super sweet and caring but her class is very fast paced with quite a bit of homework. The tests are difficult but she makes review videos that are sooo helpful. If you put the time in to watch and really understand the review video you should do well on her exams.
Kimball is a fun professor to have in lecture and she's funny, however the class is so hard. Like I had to study for 12 hrs for one test and still got a B. She makes the class as easy as she can I think, it's just a hard class. It'll be easier if you took high school chem
Dr. Kimball was a great professor, very responsive and seemed to care. The class itself is tough and requires a lot of hard work on the part of the student. If you are willing to put in the work then you will do well.
Review sessions are the only thing that got me through the class. Didn't learn a single thing from lectures despite going to every single one. Not sure if that was a me problem because they were painfully boring, but you can get some homework answers out of them. This course is super fast pace and has lots of homework, hours of studying.
Dr. Kimball is an OK professor. She kinda just reads off presentation slides, so going to lecture is a little pointless since she uploads all the notes. You honestly don't need to attend lecture if you have honors/AP chem knowledge. She also assigns a lot of homework that isn't too bad, but if you have a lot of other work it can be stressful.
Dr. Kimball cares about her students. She takes the time to do in-depth exam review sessions and provides lots of extra credit. She was by far one of my favorite professors. She's a little quirky but you get used to it. CHM 113 is an inherently difficult course. If you don't study you are going to fail. People rate professors badly because of this.
Dr. Kimball's slides are easy to follow and she helps work through concept checks which prepare you for the test. For me the tests weren't difficult especially since you get a cheat sheet and the discussion session help. I think going to lecture helps you get understanding of the material for when you're looking through slides to study.
This class has SO MUCH work. Make sure that you do extra credit, it really helps in the long run. Your end-of-course self will be thanking you! Brought me from a B to an A-
Kimball is an awesome professor! Lots of extra credit, and if you put in honest effort into watching the lectures carefully, it's a pretty simple course. I always felt that things were straight forward. Kimball also does weekly reviews before the exam, and attending those can be very useful. Overall I definitely recommend taking 113/116 from her!
Professor Kimball is an excellent professor who is very engaged in class and is very direct in her teaching style. I personally took both CHM113 and CHM116 with her and both were very enjoyable. She gives ample opportunities for extra credit so it is difficult to struggle in this class as long as you complete assignments and prepare for exams.
I took her for CHM 113 and 116, definitely one of the best teachers I've had. Her lectures are fun, she cares about the students and goes over problems. Some of the homeworks are difficult for no reason but it overprepares you for the tests. Grades fairly and the practice exams are very close in question topic/difficulty. Reccomend for anyone :)
Prof. Kimball is great. I had her for CHM113-116 and it made my experience with chemistry a lot better than expected. She offers tons of extra credit and lots of grade boosts. Also explains material very well in office hours! It is a lot of material in a short amount of time but you have to stay on top of it.
Professor Kimball is a decent professor. She explains the material well. Offers tons of extra credit which can boost your grade a ton so make sure to do them!
She is tough with her grading, but also generous in terms of Extra Credit assignments. If you do the work you can easily pass with B or better.
Love Prof Kimball & Wang. They work together to complete the online course for CHM 113/116. Prof Kimball is a great lecturer which is really crucial with how difficult and fast paced this course is. Lot's of extra credit opportunities because they are definitely needed for this course. If you take either Prof Wang or Kimball, you'll be good to go.
Kimball teaches CHM 113 & 116. Just like with every single chemistry or biology class, this is a very content heavy course. You won't do well without studying. She does her best to give only the important information in lectures, and offers SO MANY extra credit opportunities. its a 1000 point class, and you could get 80 ECpoints. 100% recommend her
She takes between 2-3 hours for a test we are allotted 45 minutes and you can tell that she s confused by her own questions. That is understandable, because she just has to formulate question in the most twisted way possible. It's not about testing the knowledge you have supposedly gained, but more about tricking you into answering wrong.
The class itself was not easy at all. Extremely math heavy but if you have to take it for your major, take it with her. She and the lab coordinator are really understanding and always reachable through email. The labs and homework are really time consuming but doable. If you put in effort and try to learn the material, you'll do fine.
Really great lectures and reasonable homework, highly recommend taking her class.
Talks fast but is very friendly
Prof Kimball was great! The assignments could take up a bit of time, but were never unreasonable. Her exams never had surprises and all the content on them were covered in the notes. The lectures can be a bit boring, but she does her best to make them interesting by doing experiments and live demos. Overall, I would recommend her for CHM113!
Very difficult class, but she does an ok job teaching it. Tons of extra credit is offered in this course w/ this professor, so make sure you do it. Without a doubt the worst part was the unit exams and final. I bombed all five of these tests, yet somehow I still passed (most likely due to the extra credit and me doing good in recitation and lab).
Professor Kimball was very helpful and patient for such a demanding course. This course offered a ton of EC. The homework is time consuming but if you stay on top of the lectures and labs they will not be so daunting. The labs were the most difficult for me, the lab itself and post-lab work is very time consuming.
Chemistry is a really difficult class in it of itself, but Prof. Kimball does a great job making it easier to understand and succeed in the class. She give ample opportunities for extra credit and bonus points on tests, homework, and extra assignments. Her lectures are well done and filled with humor and she has easily accessible office hours.
She is easily accessible outside of class time. Tons of EC from assignments to discussion boards to EC within the exams. Prof Kimball before every exam, does a full review practice exam in which she drops two questions pulled exactly from the exam for a guarantee 8 points on the exam if of course you get them right. Just post on Slack.
The content is tough, absolutely, but it is chemistry II which packs a lot of difficult information so they try to give you support through it. There is over 80 points of EC and they drop/alter many of your lowest grades. She always puts in surprise freebies on the tests and gives you reviews. DO the EC and you'll be okay!
Very enthusiastic lecturer, really engaging classes. Easy content and there are a lot of opportunities to make up for lost points. There are more or less 50 extra credit points and one revival test. However, the lab takes so much time, and recitation was pretty ineffective, it didn't help to learn at all. Amazing class though.
Professor Kimball's classes are boring, and recitation didn't help. She doesn't offer cheat sheets for exams, relying solely on your memory. Her teaching lacks clarity as she just reads off the slides and then asks everyone to practice, but doesn't explain how she arrives at certain numbers.
Amazing. So much better than Prof Wang. I would 100% recommend Prof Kimball out of all the chem prof. If you want to walk out of your lecture and have a understanding of what is going on...Take.Kimball. If I can go back and take her for 113 I would.
Prof kimball led a great class with her very entertaining lectures which included live demonstrations. She can move fast through lecture and if you aren't paying attention you can get left behind. She is a very understanding Prof and will do her best to help you through her course which she has put a lot of effort into.
there is no reason to fail her class. didnt know what i was doing and hated chem, didnt get more than a 70 on any test, but still passed with a B- because she gives so much EC opportunitites. she may read off slides in the lecture, but she still explains concepts. her exam review videos are my absolute fav. she lowk judges if u ask dumb questions
I don't understand why she has 1's. She is so awesome, and her teaching style is very clear and to the point. I've felt well prepared for every test with her, and she always offers office hours before exams for extra help. If you go to lecture, and do the assignments/EC, you'll get an A. I took her both semesters too, I really recommend her!
She gave out so many extra credit opportunities and often offered sessions for students to help understand concepts. She stayed on task during lectures, and also was quite willing to help students. Her lectures were clear, had a bit of wry humor, but didn't drift off task in the slightest.
We were warned at the start that it was going to be tough course. It was recommended to spend 25 hours every week. I watched each lecture in at least 1.75x speed. The videos weren't bad at all and I really enjoyed Prof. Kimball's teaching. There was soo much extra credit available. I have her again for CHM 116 and look forward to it.
I loved Prof Kimball. Very enthusiastic and clearly loves what she teaches. It is a hard course, but it is Chemistry so be prepared to do lots of studying. She gives a TON of extra credit which pumped up my grade by 10 points. You're also allowed a cheat sheet during exams.
I ended with a C, but I did the math. if i took this class with Wang, and earned the exact same grades then I would have finished with a B- lol. If Wang is available then take it with her instead of Kimball. Less weight is placed on exams.
She is a great professor that really cares about her students and is there to help you. The content is really hard, but there is a lot of extra credit that can help along the way. Just make sure to put in the effort and you will be okay.
This was a great class! The lectures were easy to follow and she explained how to do things very well. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does give answers to concept checks in class. The exams were really just concept checks and homework, not very hard. There is also a ton of helpful extra credit and cheat sheets for exams!
Kimball is a great professor! I recommend downloading the slideshow onto GoodNotes and following along that way because she can be kind of fast sometimes, and she goes over the answers to concept check questions. I wish I had paid more attention in class, but I still passed with a C, and I'm currently taking her again for 116. Really recommend her!
Absolutely love Kimball. I had her for CHM 113 and CHM 116 and she is amazing at teaching. The lectures aren't mandatory but I highly recommend going because she gives the answers to concept checks. The class isn't hard but definitely study the exam reviews to do well on the exams (they are practically the same). She's overall a great professor.
Kimball is an amazing professor. She offers many extra credit opportunities and also a cheat sheet (chem116 only). She is funny, and her lectures are actually engaging. The material can be difficult, but she gives us a bunch of resources to help us study. You can get a good grade by actually trying which I know is difficult for some lol.
So many extra credit opportunities it's ridiculous. Super easy to reach via email. If her office hours don't work for you she's willing to make an appointment to meet 1:1. Cheat sheet on exams front and back. Gives 2 exam questions per exam and question 25 is usually a freebie. Difficult content but plenty of resources to help students!
Literally the best professor I have ever had
Amazing. If you need CHM 113/116 take prof Kimball. If you want to walk out of a lecture not understanding anything and questioning why you even showed up take prof Wang.
Professor Kimball's lectures were very clear and easy to follow. There are lots of office hours and online practice/sources of help. She goes through lots of examples in class and explains them well, and she is very fun and enthusiastic while teaching. Tests are easy to prepare for since they follow practice exams and lecture material closely.

Professor Kimball is very easy to talk to outside of class. Ususally responds to emails that same day. Does exam reviews before every exam, lots of extra credit .
Dr. Kimball is amazing! I had her for CHM 113 and CHM 116 and she truly made chemistry less miserable. She provides many extra credit opportunities and it's obvious she cares about the success of her students. Exams are also extremely fair and she gives many study resources that help a ton. She also makes lectures interesting! Take her if you can!
Prof Kimball is great. This class has difficult content, but if you put in the work you will get a good grade. She gives 2 free exam questions (per exam) and the questions are similar to the ones given on the practice tests. She also gives a ton of extra credit just for doing practice problems. In CHM 116 she also gives a cheat sheet. Take her!!!
Shes such a baddie when it comes to chm. 116 is a tough concept and she does an amazing job executing it. Offers a TON of extra credit and 2 free question exams per exam ( 3 and a final) dont even get me started on the double sided hand written cheat sheet she lets you use. Overall would recommened
I don't know why she has less than 5 stars, she is a really good professor! I learned so much from her two classes: CHM113, and CHM116. I 100% recommend taking chemistry with her.
i wish i would've taken her for chm 113. she's really great! chm 116 is no joke, as there is difficult content but if you put in the work everything will align perfectly, just trust. she offers alot of xtra credit, free exam questions (2), and a double sided cheat/note sheet for every exam+final.
Professor Kimball is awesome! Lectures are informative and she does a great job explaining difficult concepts while easy to understand. She is accessible via email and is very accommodating to meet with you to go over concepts or your exams to discuss topics you may have struggled with. There are lots of EC opportunities too. Highly recommend!
Kimball is the best professor for chemistry. She's very passionate and very caring. She makes sure you understand the concepts and if you don't she has office hours + there's the recitation office hours/discussion sessions. There's a lot of extra credit opportunities in this class. 3 exams + 1 final. Hard class, great professor!!!
Suddenly I like chemistry?? Prof. Kimball is the blueprint for what a STEM prof should be like. She makes the subject beyond tolerable and genuinely cares for her students! She does fun experiments in class, jokes around, and answers questions well. Going into a new semester, I will definitely miss her! Take this class! CHEAT SHEETS ON TESTS!!
I never used the textbook, but it's there if you need it. Her lectures are prerecorded and sometimes a bit lengthy. A LOT of opportunity for extra credit! Some advice for this class, DON'T get behind!
Professor Kimball is an amazing lecturer. She is engaging and very passionate about the difficult material. Lots of assignments but it is not hard to keep up. Exams are much easier than home work, and there is a lot of extra credit available. She wants you to do great in the class.
LOVED prof. kimball! there were free points on every test from free questions in her exam reviews plus a bonus freebie just for answering + tons of ec through the semester from problem sets. her lectures were always engaging and funny. exams were very similar to her test reviews. i'd retake her class just for her energy alone. she's awesome!
Amazing professor! Well-prepared, and so many resources available to you. Attend your discussion sessions, and ask questions on slack and you will do well. The content is difficult and requires an input of time and energy, but it's doable and all the chemistry professors are amazing at helping you succeed. The professor is very friendly and kind.
Chem in an advanced time frame is very challenging. This class will take a lot of time and it will be hard. Luckily Prof. Kimball is kind and encouraging and there is so much extra credit that you can do to both prepare for tests and bump up your grade. She's a fast grader. Textbook says required but you really only need one section of it for HW.
I love her. She is an angel.
She does a good job at trying to make chemistry interesting. She also provides lots of materials for the tests (extra credit homework, practice tests with review video, and extended office hours). Easy extra credit opportunities and two free questions + full two sided notes page for each exam. Would recommend her!
Kimball does in class experiments that align with what were learning and are so fun! I wish her class for CHM 116 didn't fill up as I would've taken it for sure. Goes fast in lectures but does exam reviews, extended office hours, free exam questions, extra credit, just so many resources and very helpful and enthusiastic professor ^_^
Fun! Tries to help the best she can. Teaching professor, so she doesn't do lab work. Big on having demos in class. Exams, you are allowed a front and back sheet of paper (at least the year I took it). Extra credit assignments (get back like 20 pts from missed test questions). No curve because it's an intro class.
Prof. Kimball is super passionate about her field and has a great sense of humor, and she makes a bunch of cool chemistry demonstrations throughout the semester. Take advantage of extra credit problem sets for a grade boost and practice ahead of exams. Expectations are clearly outlined and so many helpful resources are provided. Take her course!
Great professor. Just hard material. Take notes. Go to Discussion Sessions. Watch Chad's Prep. It will definitely help. Go to class for i-clickers. Practice concepts. Do homework and extra credit. I know it sounds like a lot, but believe me, it will help.
Moves quite fast during lectures. Overall isn't too bad. There probably are better CHM 113 professors at ASU; however, her class for sure is doable.
She's a nice lady! She does go through lectures a bit too quickly especially during the last 15 minutes of class. The tests are hard but going to discussion sessions help. Textbook lowkey isn't needed to pass.
She is a good professor, she goes through slides quickly so I recommend taking notes before hand. There are so many resources which make this class passable. the tests are not bad and the final was pretty easy compared to her regular exams. She is passionate about chemistry and seems like a very nice person who is always willing to help!
Chemistry is a super difficult subject to teach in such a short time but she manages to teach it all and still makes lectures a fun time. Tests can be a little difficult but she has good test prep and is always open to helping students whenever they need it. Definitely take her if you have chemistry as a required course.
