Ms. Mack is really sweet and helpful. She cares about her students and wants them all to do well. Easy course, awesome grading scale, but don't plan on missing very many classes...
o man.. she is sweet.. but she teach way too fast... :( i drop her class not because she sucks but because.. im not used to with college teaching system.. hmm...
Her lectures are too fast and hurry, can't understand what she was talking about sometimes.I wish she can teach us with her own word instead of copying from text book.
I really have hard time with this teacher, she dont know how to teach in professional way. Her personility is good, but she cant explain things clearly. If you really want to learn Chemistry ,dont take her.
She is such a sweet lady and an awesome teacher. She is always willing to go over anything you don't understand. She is very thorough and an excellent teacher. I am so lucky to have gotten her this semester
She's the best teacher I've ever had, she explains everything very very throughly. She's very excited about teaching and it shows!!! She's also a sweetheart and really really CARES. IF you don't take her you're REALLLY REALLY MISSING OUT!!!!
Great teacher.
Excellent Teacher I have ever met. She is very helpful and care to every student in her class. Most of the student in class ranked her in Full marks........
Getting an A in her class, but I didn't have any chemistry before.she is nice, kind, sweet, and patient. the grading sys is fair, about 700 points total compare with Dr. WONG' 200 points. i really have learned a lot,and she helped me a lot when i was confuse.2/5ofclass got A,and the class is the best.
Dr.Mack is an OK teacher. She's very nice, but sometimes she can't explain things clearly. She rushes through lectures too fast. Students are so busy copying down lecture notes that they can't listen very well. Lab is confusing, but overall this is an easy class.
The easiest chem teacher ever.We have more "A" students than other classes. She is new, but experienced. Her notes are so clear that I don't even need to read the text. Unfortunately, I love bio more than chem, otherwise, I would take her chem 1B. Last thing, she is graduated from UCLA.
Dr. Mack is a good teacher, but she rushes through lectures too fast. Students are so busy copying down lecture notes that they can't listen very well.
such a sweet teacher.. do what is assigned and don't skip classes.. grading is fair in this class..
she is the best intro chem teacher. Always show up on time because she marks for that.
Care about students, dont look down to those students who dont dress well and their appearence.
She's very nice and Helpfull but there were times i got lose with material on quizzes and all. This is a hard class overall so be prepared, the teacher can't make much of a difference. Overall she's fine.
She is the best teacher I have ever seen. Also, she is very nice and sweet to her students. She makes the chemistry easy to learn. I feel I was very lucky to take her class.
she's so fake ,always act like a helpful professor, but she isnt
D. Mack is an OK teacher. She sometimes does not know what she is talking about and gives you a BS answer. The material is a bit tough to begin with and I got through it all with self study. Her comments and advice were not really helpful. Overall she is kind and tries hard but D. Wong is probably better.

Fake ass teacher and examples in class are different than ones on test. "Looks" like she's helping but she doesn't. So many people dropped. I studied 4 hrs a day and only managed a B
The material is hard stuff, if you want to take this class, you must be very dedicated because it takes a lot of time. Her notes are based on power point presentation. To me, she is nice and helpful. Just remember not to be late or miss any of the classes. Testes and quizzes are hard but do-able as long as you study. Highly recommended =]
This class requires a lot of time and work. Quizzes and online HWs every week plus some HWs from her.She seems to be nice but she cannot teach, be on time because if you are 5 mins late she will deduct points in HW.
Got an A in her Spring 05 Chem 22 class. Mack is a good professor, she will guide you to solve problems. I never did the labs, just imagine the reactions in your head. Do yourself a favor, review some basic chemistry and take the chemistry placement exam. Bypassing Chem 22 into 1A will save you time since the chemistry department is impacted.
Great Prof. Easy on the eyes. Very helpful. Tough class.
really sucks...tests and exams always...very hard to get an A...5 As out of 35 students..u can imgiane how hard to get an A..also..she loves to give D and C...
well, she's hot, I agree. She's knowledgable, I agree. But somehow she can't teach an can't explain. If you want to take her, I suggest you read other chem books beside her book, because...it's not understandable, really confusing, and not consistent!!! I had to read different books, do research online in order to understand chem.
She is a very nice teacher that tries to help u out. Her lectures are not always very clear. Most of the time her quizzes and test have nothing to do with her lectures. If you want to get a least a B in her class you have to study on your own. You have to study every day for atleast 4 hours
flat out a bad prof. lectures are confusing, too many handouts based on powerpoint that goes too fast & covers too many non-important issues. lectures w/ easy chem probs but on the tests/quizzes, they're 100x harder. if she says it won't be on the test, IT WILL BE! marks off points if you don't do math exactly her method. teaching is not her forte.
Ms. Mack isn't half bad. She's a good instructor, and she happens to know her stuff. Chemistry itself is the cat's pajamas, and having a knowledgeable instructor only makes the experience all the more pleasant.
She's one of the most chem teachers ever!!!
teachers do not have to be easy..chemistry is always hard..u think it is easy because u are smart..her lectures are clear..her notes are also helpful..but she grade report so mean..overall, she is a good teacher and you can understand 90% of things from her notes..book is not very useful in her class
It seems that all PCC Chem 1B classes are paced similarly-the beginning is deceptively simple. Then, around Study Assignment A, everything goes at hyperspeed. As for Mack's teaching style: her lectures revolve around powerpoint examples, most of which are derived from the book. This makes the material difficult to master in the short time provided.
she is very hard to understand, her lecture sometimes is being confusing, and i basically learned nothing from her. I highly recommend not taking this class unless you have a good background in chem, because if I didn't know how to do the material already, i would have been screwed. Try and avoid her. Although she is nice, she is a poor teacher.
GREAT teacher! Between my friends and I we have taken every chem 22/1A teacher at PCC and she is the best by FAR. She is so good she could teach chem to 1st graders! She is kind, helpful and breaks the subject down into its simplest form to make sure you understand it. TAKE HER! You won't regret it (believe me, I know, I had to repeat Chem 22!)
if you still like your high school teaching style... take her! if not... please dont. She treats you like a kid. she takes roll before lecture and pre-lab.some things are hard to understand. but the good side of it is that she is pretty lenient on the grading... except on units and sig fig. take another prof if you can!
The best professor ive ever seen in PCC!TAKE HER!!!
PLEASE TAKE HER AND SAVE YOURSELF FROM GETTING ANYTHING LOWER THAN AN 'A' WITH OTHERS. I BARELY STUDIED AND I'M NOT EXACTLY A CHEM PERSON. YOU WILL GET AN 'A' OR 'B' INDEFINITELY. DONT TAKE HUBER SHE'S NOT AS GOOD AS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD. MACK USES POWERPOINT AND WAITS FOR YOU.
2nd time taking this course passing with a B. Very good teacher but you will put in some work in this class. Very approachable, teaches in powerpoint, and actually explains. I have taken mack and mcKee...stick with mack. the teacher REALLY makes a huge difference! I Would take her again!
mack is very strait foreword, helpfull and not very hard eather. teaches strait from the book so dont expect to learn anything extra. overall a very good teacher, and realy cute too. recomended!
Ms. Mack is so awesome ;]. very clear and hardworking teacher plus her smile keeps the whole class lively and makes students motivated to work hard.
She knows her stuff very well, but I personally dun like her lecture style. She just talks and talks and there wasn't much examples on the lecture to practice. She's really nice and friendly though so take her anyway.
a great prof. with the GREAT personality and attention to everyone. I learned a lot in her class and can't put into enuff words how much im lucky and thankful to her for everything. She's truly one of a kind. HIGHLY recommended for sci-related majors b/c u'll feel knowledgeable and ready to move on to chem 1A at the end.A very cute lady too :]
She is the best. A very cute and active lady. She is an exemplary type of prof who can surely teach chem. Her lecture notes are super clear and she is very helpful. Quizzes and exams mite be tuff compared to other chem 22 classes . Study hard b/c it's a good training for further chem levels.totally takin her chem 1a in fall again 100% recommended
BEST 1A TEACHER EVER. took first time with ansari. hated him. dropped after 2 weeks. MACK <3. she makes chemistry comfortable. got an A.
you have to be crazy to take chemistry with anyone else. she is the greatest teacher. will leave the class with a wealth of knowledge. and an A.
very good professor. uses powerpoint. we had looked at other chem 22 classes's quizzes posted in the hallway, we felt as if we were in the different level of chem class because her quizes n exams will make u think, u need to go deep inside of some concepts and really understand it in order to do well in her class.6 students got an A in the class.
She is the best professor for Chemistry for those who have never taken it before. She is willing to help you if you ask her and she is very approachable. She is awesome and has a great smile take her.
Absolutely love her. She is simply the best chem teacher in pcc because you will definitely enjoy chemistry if you take her.She is so caring to students which is very rare nowadays in most professors. thanks a lot, Ms. Mack =]. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!
She is a very nice and approachable teacher. She always has that smile on her face that makes you want to learn. You will learn Chemistry through her power point lectures but she tries to make it as fun as possible. You can always go to her office hours and ask for help and she will be happy to assist you.
I also another person who decided to take her from reading u guys comments on her. now i just finish taking chem22 and planing to tk her again in chem1a i really dunt know if she will be more serious in c1a but it is worth to try to tk her again since she very helpful on chem22. cant help myself to not telling my own story too cuz she is the best.
Wonderful professor, good teaching, hard exam; it was a great class because I love chemistry. However, I wish I could have another it with another professor because powerpoint lecture didn't suit my learning style. The lectures were quite simple in comparison to quizzes and exams. Achievable B, hard A.
The class was very frustrating at times, but wow does this teacher want you to succeed. She would sit with us for hours at a time (non class time) answering all of our questions. Very sweet personality, and extremely approachable. Class was HARD, but i got through...First exam: Medium, Second Exam: HARD, Third Exam: Okay, Final Exam: Pretty Simple.
Prof. Mack is a wonderful instructor. She wants you to succeed in chemistry, and is extremely knowledgeable. She moves quick, but it's to prepare you for CHEM 1A. RECOMMENDED!!!
Prof. Mack is a great instructor. Loves what she does. Will definitely prepare you for the next class, but you gotta work. EXPLAINS EVERYTHING CLEARLY. I know I'm prepared for CHEM 1A.
Prof. Mack is a great instructor. Loves what she does. Will definitely prepare you for the next class. I know I'm ready for CHEM 1A.
I hated chemistry before I took her. 1B was hard class, but she eased it out for students. You don't even need to touch your textbook. Her powerpoints and her lecture cover everything you need to get an A. JUST PAY ATTENTION TO EVERY MINUTE OF HER LECTURE and you'll get an A. :)
Trust me!! She's simply the best chem professor in PCC. Take her if you can and you won't regret.
She is a nice professor, but her teaching method is way too quick that you can barley understand anything, you need to make sure your on time and quickly turn in your assignments or lose points, picky grader, if you do not have a good chemistry background i would avoid her.
She is a great teacher, she helps you as much as she possibly can. She is super nice. Her class is a bit hard but you learn a lot! Totally recommend her!
Attendance is very important guys! Every assignment is due at the next class meeting morning and if you are late she marks half off. Her grading system is based on your method of solving the problem so even if your off with answer you still get points. Recommended for people who likes to do hw and review notes every night.
SHE WAS AN AMAZING PROFESSOR VERY SWEET AND CARING, I WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN AND I JUST MIGHT BC OF PERSONAL REASONS
TEAM-TEACHING. SWITCHING 2 instructors every 2 weeks. Mack came in on week 14 of 16th week semester. Explains well. Great powerpoint lectures coordinate with textbook, but too late into semester. As a honors program student, I still Love chem despite the crazy team teaching program. Nevertheless going to UCLA despite PCC.
not a great professor at all test on materials she doesn't talk about. sucks at explaining power point. test question are usually out of blue not what she taught. not enough practice she doesn't even use canvas for practice quiz
The best chem professor at PCC. Very clear and enthusiastic. Her tests may seem hard but they're very fair. She prepares you well for 1B... And she's HOT!!!
Her lectures are unclear and she goes way to fast for anyone to understand. Your whole grade depends on testsquizzes. She does give you some credit for hw and lab but it barely affects your grade. I would not take this class again.
Great prof! But she really nit picks on little errors on hw & doesn't give out a lot of hw so you need to give yourself practice problems to refresh your memory before tests. BUT dont let that scare you away. Out of all the chem profs, shes the best one to take! Lectures clear, very helpful. Shes very patient, definitely take if youre a STEM major
She's very thorough in her lesson plans and when grading homework. If you're interested in learning the basics of chemistry, this is the way to go about it. She does moves quickly through lectures, but that's because a lot of information is being covered. Be sure to download the lecture notes and read the textbook so that you don't get lost.
Professor Mack is probably the best professor in the chemistry department. I am so glad that I met such an amazing human being in my life.
She is very nice and helpful. The only problem that irritated me was that HER TESTS ARE FAR MUCH HARDER than her lectures seem. She only summaries the hard parts (for example, rules, laws and exceptions) and gives examples of the easier ones. Very few examples given during class making studying for tests harder. Canvas quizzes are also too easy.
Great professor! Her lectures were very clear and understandable. I had never taken chem before, and I didn't have a problem passing the class. You won't regret taking her class
Best professor for Chem hands down. She grades fairly and is always ready to help. She only tests what she lectures on and gives you all the tools you need to get an A. You won't find anyone more understanding than she is.
Best professor for Chem hands down. She grades fairly and is always ready to help. She only tests what she lectures on and gives you all the tools you need to get an A.
Her lectures are very clear, but her tests DO NOT reflect her lecture. The tests are very conceptual even though she doesn't teach concepts. The practice assignments are nothing like the difficulty of the tests. She is very nice though.
great professor. makes you love chem. I had a B- on chem in HS. got an easy A in her class.
she's a great professor at chemistry. but in 1A she made us do "ALEKS" which was helpful yet time consuming and sometimes frustrating. but she is a good prof. and hot.
If you take Mack for 1A you're going to have online HW called ALEKS, which is the WORST. Overall, she is an amazing teacher and her lectures are very clear. She is so sweet. Tests and quizzes are HARD and really make you THINK. BUT the online HW is worth 90 points and u have to do twice a week. IT SUCKS. Final is hard as F. RMP wont let me cuss
Her ALEKS online homework cost me so much time. Her exams are hard; she marked a lot of questions wrong on the exams. On the homework, she found that I had a lot of mistakes answering questions. Despite my SI sections, I got a low grade on the exam. I will not be attending her Chemistry class anymore.
the best chem prof there is. if your major is related to chem then take her. It's worth it
If you want to learn chem.... take her! if you want an easy A, then don't take chem at all because chem it self is not easy. She prepares you very well for your future chem courses
THE best prof in the chem department hands down. She makes you learn and enjoy chem. her tests are relatively a little hard but if you know the concept you'll be fine. SO TAKE HER CLASS PPL! if it's not filled up already that is...
Mack is flat-out amazing. Trans / LGBT ally. Fantastic and concise lecturer. Very sweet. Labs are especially clear. I HIGHLY recommend reading the textbook to prepare for tests; do not rely solely on lectures. Final is written by a 3rd party (not her call) and weird -- buffer your grade by at least 5% by doing well on tests and quizzes.
She is a very nice professor
The class was okay. I really hated using ALEKS. Homework takes so ***** long to do. Why can't she just assign HW and study assignments like other professors. Would be a great professor if she didn't use ALEKS. Will avoid if she is teaching 1B
She is a good teacher in that she answers questions and gives examples, but you better not have a job or other classes with the way she assigns work. Her online homework is excessive and draining. Makes it very hard to earn an A despite the fact that the grade is curved.
Very nice professor and is helpful in labs. However, this is sadly overshadowed due to majority of the homework being from ALEKS and its awfully tedious. Even worse, her exams are difficult and the lectures are both rushed and hard to grasp on. I would not recommend her unless you are HIGHLY confident in your chemistry skills.
She has great lectures and does assign a lot of homework. You must dedicate a lot of time in order to get an A in this class. Make sure to come to class as you may miss a lot of material. Labs are worth a lot too so make sure you participate in those as well. I thank Professor Mack for re-sparking an interest in Chemistry for me. She's amazing!
Prof Mack is one of the best professors at PCC. She genuinely cares about her students and if you ask for help, she is always willing to re-explain a concept. She is never condescending or rude and always happy to answer questions. This is chemistry, which can be tough, but Prof Mack wants her students to succeed.
Ever since the corona virus, she's been giving her class more work than usual. The class has to learn from youtube videos and she changed the grading scale too because everything is online. I feel like dropping out because this class makes me sad and stressed. Theres always something due. You think you're done with your hw? WRONG.
Professor Mack is kind and reasonable. She is patient, and her lectures are clear.
Took her in 2020 Spring (quarantine). Pros: - Amazing in-person professor - When students couldn't finish her quizzes, she gives you an opportunity to retake a revised quiz to save your grade - final is easy Cons: - bad online professor - ALEKS HW (it takes me 6 hrs to complete one section and you have to pay for this) - Lots of work to do.
I took her for chem 22 and dropped. Then I was forced to take her for chem 1A being that it was the only class open. I think shes a better in- class Professor. When we transitioned to remote instruction it was a lot! She also makes us do Aleks which takes up pretty much your entire day. However, she is caring and works with you to ensure you pass.
Just don't take it with this professor. The first three weeks were hell assignments more than one assignment due every day. I decided to drop after 5 weeks because it was just too much work from one class alone. If the class was in person, assignments wouldn't be due every day so why should they be now?
DONT TAKE FOR ONLINE uses YouTube or other prof lesson plans for lecture. Quiz due every Friday. Multiple exams that watch you through live webcam while you take it. She's strict about how you've set up your problem. Sometimes multiple homework assignments due in one day. We had to email her numerous times because the work was overwhelming.
She assigns us so much work each week(34). 1/2 the time, I don't even understand what she is asking us to do. The lectures she gives us are from other professors and inconsistent (new professor each week). She tells us to not work w other students "bc it puts students, who don't know anyone, at a disadvantage." Thought I could clutch, but ig not.
Tough Grader, Gives a crap ton of homework, self learning. The lessons taught aren't by her. YouTube videos every week from different professors and there's a few times they weren't even in English. Doesn't care if you understand the material or not. I've met some of the smartest people in the class and they have a B. Don't do it, it's a trap.
Assignments due everyday, change this after second exam but that meant more assignments due in one day Self taught class. The provided videos aren't the best sometimes there so many and some are long that it takes a lot of your time. 3 exams and a final, quiz every week Her partial credit is on specific problems not on each problem.
Don't. Take. Her. Class. -There are multiple difficult assignments due every single day, on top of the lecture material. -She grades tests harder than homework, so you don't know where you stand 'til it's too late. -You aren't allowed to see which test questions you got wrong ever. This makes zero sense.
Professor Mack is probably my favorite prof at PCC. You gotta work for your grade but she makes the criteria clear and provides stepping stones so you can really understand the material. But above all, she works just as hard for her student as she expects you to work for her class. She is beyond understanding, patient, and easy to communicate with.
Took her class this fall and she's a solid professor, I would love to have her for 001B but she doesn't teach it :( Assingments come straight from the lectures, but sometimes you'll have to self teach. She's always willing to work things out with you during office hours. Awesome explainer.
Prof Mack is fine. She expect you to have solid basic understanding of chem. Her exams and quizzes are hard. Do not take the ONLINE Class, no real lectures, only low res recorded videos, labs are virtual and not helpful.
Don't expect an easy grade from her. Her exams and quizzes will usually contain more difficult questions than the studied material. If you have a busy schedule, be sure to study the deadlines because there are multiple assignments due every week, and you will not be able to make up the assignments once the key is released.
She is a solid choice and is understanding. Pay GOOD attention to the video lectures, they cover everything she would test you on. She never gave an underhanded toss during quizzes, exams, or the final. NOT iPad friendly, she only accepts classwork in person, on physical paper. There isn't even anywhere to upload work as a pdf to Canvas.
Very good professor. I am student that gets bored easily if the course does not offer a challenge. If you're like me and you want to make a statement, take prof Mack's class and get ready to work. You will hit the ground running on the first week which was both exhilarating and terrifying at the same time(just how I like it).
Great professor but hard material. She gives you all the material and resources you need to succeed, albeit quite a lot. Be sure to do the work and review everything before tests and you will be on the right track. Very patient when answering questions, don't be afraid to ask for help.
Took hybrid; Prof Mack is very kind, approachable, and an amazing professor. She likes to keep you the full class time do not plan on leaving early and the homework does take up some time but they really help you practice the content. My only complaint is that her recorded lectures are a little hard to follow because of the writing.
Nice Chem Pro I every had! Thank you teaching us!
Took Professor Mack's hybrid class. I learned a lot from her chem 1A. The exam is similar to sample exams. Make sure to ask her questions when you feel like to, and don't be afraid to approach her, she's nice and she gives good explanations to concepts/problems.
Great Professor! I worked quite hard to get a A. In this class I learned how to learn.
Professor Mack's chem class was challenging but rewarding. Attend lectures, do the homework, and use resources like Unstuck ai to succeed. She's approachable and explains concepts well - just don't expect an easy A.
Professor Mack is super kind and absolutely amazing at teaching! I previously took ap chemistry and struggled with it but taking this class made me realize it wasn't me but how I learned it. She holds office hours and during lectures, goes through harder problems in class. She makes study guides for each quiz/test
