See you on the flip side! peace
I think she gets paid to fail people on her quizzes.
try to avoid, and do homework, but if you can take it with masters
She is so help ful
She's terrific. Helped me learn my tax.
Rough talker, lots of homework, but she is very clear.
Very, very, very, very hard, but very, very, very, very good. She's an amazing prof who is very helpful with the material.
She's great and knows her tax material inside out. Ask her any question and she'll clarify it, but do your homework first. She gets very upset if homework is not done.
She has atitude, do not as question, just listing, she should removed from tax department. I do not recoment her class. she fail everyone body in her class.
Brilliant Prof, Really knows her stuff, Boy you really learn about tax, great prep for the ufe's She's tough but work hard and it is really worth the effort. If you really want to learn tax, she's your woman!!
Don't listen to the people that tell u to take this class with Masters! If u want to learn, take it with Sydor! By far my favourite prof in all of ryerson. She's tough but she CARES about her students and she really TEACHES. She's amazing and I wish I had her for 842!!!!!
prof knows her tax. doesn't teach. spends time asking how to approach every little detail of a problem. answers are messy, short, but she expects u to give her detailed answers on the test/exam. master is better. sydor has attitude issues. bossy, obnoxious, rude, intolerable, unprofessional.
This professor teaches very well with respect to PROBLEMS at the end of the chapter. However, she is very stingy in giving out solutions to students to enable us to study for exams. Did not even give time to copy from the board. SO YOU REALLY NEED TO RELY ON PAST STUDENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN THE COURSE!!
This prof expects a lot from her students, but she teaches them a lot too. Explains things clearly so you understand them. Real friendly when you go to office for help.
Expects students to do work before class. Won't let you copy solutions but does go through all problems carefully so you understand. Do the work and you should do well.
good prof. teach good. learn amount good. good speak. clear language. problem? talk her at office- approach- good! Good prof. Good!
Be prepared to work in this class! She expects you to come to class with homework completed, and will put students on the spot! She does not lecture on course material beforehand, but she will answer questions outside of class.
GREAT PROFF...HARD!!! BUT DO YOUR WORK and you will do well! It's a hard course so no matter who you have it will be hard. I would take her over masters
she will put people on the spot, and her quizzes/midterm is extremely hard. avg for quiz was 4/10 (worth 7.5%). ouch.
She is rude, indifferent and extremely unhelpful.Enjoys Failing Students.Avoid her if you can.
Course was tough. Had to work hard. She explains things well in class and is very helpful if you go for help. Doesn't put up with students who don't try.
It is a tough course. She is not willing to make it easy, because tax is a tough subject. She wants people to learn, and you'll learn a lot from her, but passing her tests and exams is a challenge. Go to every class; spend about 10 hours a week on this course and you should pass. She looks mean, but she’s not at all.
For 90% students who are first time to take her class that is impossible to pass. Very hard test and very limited time!
Considering the effort I put on this course, I did relatively ok (C+) Taxation is a hard course, but she makes it interesting. She expects a lot from the students and if you do the exercise regulary and prepare before your exam you can achieve good marks. Her exams and queizes are not bad at all. The only challeng is managing your time. I
Great prof. The course is very difficult and time-consuming. She won't make it any easier, but she is helpful, fair and explains the material very well.
It's a hard course and she doesn't make it any easier. She is very clear in explaining concepts, goes through the problems, and helps out if you go see her in the office. It's a very demanding course and you need to spend a lot of time studying. Her quizes are much harder than the exams and you only have 20 minutes to complete 10 questions.Fair marker!!
This is an amazing professor. The course is tough and demands time and commitment. Quizzes are tough. The difficulty of the tests and exams depends on your preparedness. This prof. will not throw curve balls at you. She tests you on what she teaches, but you must understand the concepts inside-out. She’s one of the most helpful profs. Go to her off
ok. not great
She teaches well but her quizzes are the worst thing in the world. Her average for the quiz is 40%. She is rude and very snarky to her students. She treats students with very little thought, consideration or respect. She also thinks that being the chair of accounting gives her the right to treat people in any manner
horrible actually.. i studied so much yet i failed the midterm. Class average for the midterm was 46%
She is one of the most horrible professors I have encountered in Ryerson. She must possibly be worse than Esther Deutsh. Her midterms are difficult and her expectations are too high. She also does not give enough time to complete the midterm NOR DOES SHE POST HER OFFICE HOURS. She is very unhelpful. She should not be teaching at Ryerson.
She is a very insolent, unhelpful person. She makes the exams unnecessarily difficult and also does not give enough time to complete the exam. As the chair of Accounting, she is one of the worst persons at Ryerson. It is such a shame that this woman would be allowed to get away with some of the things she does.
Reading Chapters 1 and 2 is a waste of time and only one question on one quiz pertained to these chapters. Class average is a fail. Prof will go over problems on the board which is great but holds solutions close to chest. Recommend doing additional problems-w-solutions from the CD as this level is tested on midterm and final.
Very Good Prof! Mid term and Final extremely tough (quizes HARD), but you need to take her word and do the work - if you do the work you can do well - people dislike her because she is tough but that only helps at the end. LOVED HER LECTURES very clear and takes time to explain to her students! Definately recomended!!!!!!
I am not discounting the fact that she teached well. That being said, she is a very horrible professor. She is very insolent to her students. She is also quite belligerent. Her midterms and final exams are extremely hard. She therefore has far too unrealistic expectations for her students. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TAKING THIS PROF.
She is not a good person and is quite rude to her students.
terrible, terrible, terrible ....awful woman she is really abusing the fact that she's the chair of accounting dept. very hostile very unapproachable..ridiculosuly difficult....someone has to fire this monster
Stay away from this prof. She does not teach course material at all, and all she does it going over problems. She just looks at the solutions manual for instructors and copy the listed soln to the board. Her test/exam are very hard, midterm avg was a fail -> 46%. Apparently she does not bell curve either, so many of her students fail.
This prof is the best! Listen to her and you WILL succeed in the real world!! She prepared me like no tomorrow for the CA exams!!! I didn't do well in the course, but did brilliantly on the CA exam!!!!
class is very hard...she does not help out....midterm/final has a ton of curveballs....class average was 45% stay away!
asks students to write the solution on board. wanna bring ur gpa down, then take her class
Very tough course but she explains really well! Helpful if you go see her in the office. Wants to make sure that students pass professional exams. Her class was really worth attneding.
Honestly, the UFE and CGA's TX1 (which are not easy by any measure) was easier than her course. She's not as mean as the other reviewers make her out to be but her expectations are simply unreasonable. Do not listen to the others who claim she teaches better than Master. Master teaches just as well and his exams are fair.
The best professor, I?ve ever had. Do not think that my opinion is influenced by good mark received in this course, because I have failed it the first time I took it. Daria is one of those people that will influence your life significantly ? you will never forget her. She is my mentor; I look up to her and wish that I could be as strong as she is.
Very hard exams but she explains the material well.
Daria is a great professor and a great person. For anyone who has difficulties I strongly recommend you to talk to her in person and describe your circumstances-she is very compassionate and helpful.
She demands a lot from the students since she would expect us to pass the challange exam without any trouble. Her exams are not easy, but you have to put into a lot of effort to get a good grade. Good luck (you will need it if you take her)
there's no point in hurting your chances at a career just to meet this woman's expectations. She IS abusing her position and hurting student's chances at getting into good firms. I passed her 742 class, dropping 842, cause it's not worth it. Avoid at all costs for the sake of your GPA. She fails half her class, no joke.
Has high expectations of students, but if you do your work and don't screw around will learn a lot. Her exams are great prep for professional exams. If you do screw around, she has no patience.
Anyone here who bashed Daria did not put in the work required for this course. While I do agree that the tests and exams are difficult to the point they may be unfair, Daria is trying to put Ryerson on the map. You'll thank her later when you find that you won't have to study hard for the Tax portion of your professional exams.
Brilliant Prof. If you can committ the time to doing the questions before hand, you can easily succeed in this class. Have to keep up week to week as it's easy to fall behind. Really helpful when asked questions so long as they aren't basic questions that should be known from simply reading the course materials
Course is very difficult. She asks questions on the midterm/final that are covered by one paragraph in the text and there are not enough sample questions in the text. Lectures are fun at times, but most of the time you are wondering how you are going to pass this class.
not enough time on mid-term. Minus 1 for wrong answers, omg
She is egoistic. She thinks she is helping students by not giving answers. She kills your morale, stay away from her class. Forgetsshe is speaking to students not tax professionals.doesn't create interest in the subject. She sets the exams to show how smart she is? She comes to class tired, you do the work. Unrealistic lecturer, she does not encourage
Claims she likes to help people but doesn't. She enjoys her painful teaching style, her lectures are pathetic...you'd better hire your own tutor for her class because she doesn't teach a thing! She just rips through slides with very little explanation which is very unhelpful considering the amount of content crammed into this course.
fail you after drop date for less paper work.
This class is very hard! I must disagree will all these posts here. If you're taking this class cause you want to be CA and will be writing your prof exams soon, shes a great prof to prep you for its difficulty. If you can't pass her class, you WON'T pass the CKE! As long as you read ch nd do hmwr, you'll get the material nd mark. TEsts r very hard
Agree. She fail ppl after the refund date, so she gets paid but lesser work. More than 1/2 of class gone after midterm.
Dont take Acc 842 in the summer, this teacher is the worst for summer classes, it is obvious she doesnt want to be there during the summer. People usually take classes in the summer to get a good mark, but not with her.
Good professor. She really teaches, though she does not give free grades. If you want to do CA then take tax with her because she will help you prepare for UFE. If you are lazy or just want an easy A then do not take it with her - in fact, re-consider whether you should be in accounting at all. All profs should be like her!
She is a terrible prof! Don't waste your time or money! Do not take tax with her! More than 50% of the class drops after the midterm and only 50% of those that stay will actually pass the class! You can try as hard as you want, doesn't mean you will get a good mark! She has no interest in teaching, very obvious!
She is a chairman of accounting and the WORST professor EVER. It is why there are a lot of unqualified professors in accounting DEPT. The school should let more than one professor teach each course, so students have a chance to choose. Or Chairman, can you let other professor teach Tax, please?
CKE argument is stupid, Ryerson students don't get jobs at CA firms because Sydor likes to give low grades. Her dept aims to average grades below professional designation requirements. Firms don't like low grades, no jobs. She also restricts students entry into other Tax prof's sections. Why risk her job if students realize tax can be fun to learn?
If she really wants to prepare us for CKE,then she should show some interest in teaching. Put some efforts in making students understand. Her intention is to make it tough. She is scared we will learn tax,so keeps on "teaching". I have seen other Proffs, trying to make us understand, encourage.Tax is fun with other lecturers, with her it is "taxing"
TERRIBLE PROF!!! She is not fit to teach a university class. She doesn't know how to teach a class and keep a class interested. She doesn't accommodate students at all. Try to avoid her if you can. Take the course with someone else. She should DEFINITELY NOT be the accounting department chair
Daria is a very high quality professor who will prepare you for the UFE. The material is very hard and she is demanding, but this is exactly what you will get later on if you pursue a CA designation. I am a former student of hers, who passed their UFE on first attempt and never had problems with TAX, because of her.
Want to know how to do well with Sydor? read each chapter b4 class, do the hmwk before class, redo the hmwk while studying for the MT and exam and did the CD rom probs. if you follow this, you will not get lower than a B. ur in 4th yr acc where independant learning is key aka u should know how to teach urself by now.
Useful and terrible professor. She thinks accounting students are only taking her class and expects people to study it 24/7. You can do well but only if study the textbook page by page and she will make you memorize where each section is in the Tax Act. Her questions are based on small sections in the book. Aweful prof. that needs to retire.
Really hard course, but I guess that's to be expected for a 4th year course at university. Too bad the class in general was filled with idiots as it lowered the academic environment. Such stupid students here @ ryerson. Study EVERYTHING and you'll do well. Prof. Sydor also really helps with UFE prep, so her course is golden (but hard!)
Worst prof I ever had. Midterm was so hard.
Professor Sydor is a terrific tax professor who really knows her stuff and tries to ensure that students understand the concepts. The course material is quite difficult but that should be expected given the material that is covered in the course. If you stay on top of the problems, readings and spend 10hrs/week on the course you should do fine.
she fails to teach anything with clarity
Disappointment to say the least. Unorganized, not motivational, does not teach materially with any clarity. Textbook is the only way to retain the information.
Very unorganized. Terrible at explaining material. Gave hard tests or quizzes. Was just overall really bad.
Do all the homework assigned, UNDERSTAND IT, and attend class to see which homework she takes up(focus more on these and the ones she spends a lot of time taking up). No surprises on midterm or final as long as you focus on understanding the homework assigned. Got an A+ this way and this was my first A+ in an accounting course. Good luck!
Very clear prof. I agree with the below comment: focus on the questions she does in class and you will be set for the midterm and final. This course is not meant to be easy, but if you truly put in the time (a lot of time) it will pay off. She knows her tax inside and out and going to her lecture is a very worthwhile experience.
Do problems until you master it.
How on earth did this woman become chair of accounting at Ryerson? She should not be allowed to teach this course anymore. She literally called our class "a bunch of twits" right to our faces. No courtesy in the classroom. She frequently is rude when answering questions and is overall a very mean person to talk to. No wonder nobody asks for help
842 requires lots of time to understand the concepts and memorize the calculations. You need to be able to EXPLAIN the material on the exams. Daria is actually very nice (and funny!) once you get to know her. She's very clear in how to succeed in the course and prepares you for CPA very well.
I had studied from the begining of the semester for the midterm but regret to say that it was hard. But if you know the correct strategy than you can do well. Basically focus on the questions done in class n master them but you also should go back to the text and make notes on those questions done in class this will prepare you for the theory
she is a nice one, as long as you follow her steps and listen to the class, do the questions with her in class, you'll be good at exam. She will do the accounting with you by every step.
Daria is a good teacher however i had her in a 3 hour lecture and it was always in class demo questions and never really explaining the concepts on the chapter. she would go over it a bit but nothing much that it would stick into your head. you have to read the textbook before hand which is kinda annoying.
Daria is a very slow and boring prof, You do not need to attend her classes because her 3 hour lectures are her taking up 4 question from the in class demo questions that is given at the end of every chapter. The midterm was easy but the final was hard. I learned nothing in the classes.
she is the worst proff ever. DO NOT TAKE NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!
This old lady is just not the right person to teach taxation. Although taxation is a hard course, she is not willing to work through questions step by step. When students ask her questions during the break, she becomes impatient. Whoever is taking taxation 2 during Winter 2020, should let the SAF department aware that Daria needs to be replaced.
Tax II is a hard course as it is. When you have someone who degrades the class and unwilling to answer questions, the course becomes next to impossible to get through. Daria goes through few problems in class SLOWLY. Practice the problems weekly - the only way you will pass. Stay on top of course work. Take AFA 817 with another prof if possible.
Amazing professor. Learned so much about tax with her! 5/5.
She doesn't care about her students, and constantly puts students down when they don't answer. Expects everyone to understand tax on her level. Midterm and final are much harder than questions in class. Takes whole class to do 2 questions.
She is intimidating, however, shes actually a sweetheart. She knows what shes doing and teaches the material well. If I were you, I would go to every class- she doesn't teach for the full time anyways.
This professor DOES care a lot about her students and wants them to do the best. The course is just extremely hard. The quizzes are multiple choice which make them hard because you forget one number and its wrong. But the midterm & final were fair!! Do your work and reach out for help!
During class Daria only goes through 2 to 4 questions per chapter, which is definitely not sufficient enough for students to understand the content properly. Her online quizzes were not quizzes, they were very difficult and cannot be finished on time. She does not set any expectations which makes it hard in a content heavy course.
Hard course with a lot of content but Daria understands that so she tries her best to dumb it down. She cares for her students and will take extensive time to go over a concepts if people aren't getting it. Quizzes were too long in length and exams were fair.
She seems really sweet and tries her best. But honestly, the quizzes were the most difficult thing to do. There's not enough time for the amount of questions she gives on them. Midterm and Exam were draining to say the least. The course is already difficult enough, but I at least passed, not very satisfied with it though.
Daria is an absolute caring instructor. She does her best to ensure her students understand the material. TAX is TOUGH and she knows it. So she is very considerate when she sees students are struggling with the content. Best part is she tests based on only what she teaches so make sure you attend the lectures or watch the recordings!!!
Doesn't teach. Tax is a hard enough course as it is and Daria makes it unbearable. Very slow in getting back to you in regard to anything. Avoid if you can and take John Li
Tax is a really difficult course, bur Daria helped make it easier to understand. You must watch her video lectures and practice the problems as that is what the midterm and final is similar to.
Horrible professor, her lectures consist of going over the 3 problems that she assigned. However, all the answers are already pre-filled out and she just displays them with no real explanation.
She's an extremely nice professor, but does teach very slow and only goes through a couple of questions in class, which I found to be not enough to help us prepare for the midterm and final. The quizzes were rough and most of us did not do well., and the midterm and final were long problems that were similar to the textbook questions, but harder.
Have never had a professor as brutal as Daria. No material is taught in class and she practically reads off the solution but supposedly the students should not have any access to solution manuals, stay away if you can
To start off I would like to give her credit in 2 parts. First she gave a 100 on the homework for completion and secondly she boosted marks for the midterm. However the midterm and final were quite tough. Midterm marks were so low she had to boost marks. In addition she forces participation in class and you have to go to get solutions.
keep deleting the posts daria
Just no
During her lectures, she just goes over the demo questions because she doesn't post the solutions. The demo questions are exactly on the weekly quizzes (worth 15%). You do have to watch the videos and read some of the textbook to understand what is going on, but they are easy concepts to grasp. She doesn't take the full 3 hours most of the time.
If you're taking acc100 it's doomed no matter who you take because they use some self-made "textbook" that has 1000 pages and force you to rely on videos to clarify. All lectures are 3 hrs of demo questions which you need to do the super quizzes and exams with bad formatting on d2l. Sydor also shames people who leave during lectures/early lol.
The course is quite challenging, but the professor tries her best to explain the concepts. Quizzes can be tough, but the midterm and final are fair. Unstuck study proved helpful for exam prep alongside the textbook.
Super knowledgeable, lovely to talk too, old school chill. She can be a but intimidating at first, but shes quite kind. She knows what shes talking about, and you can tell. If you put in the work, you can prb pass with 100%. Easy quizzes. Free textbook with hyperlinked videos. Easy to understand/learn. I would def take another class with her.
