It is an easy class if you study and read and pay attention. Online open chapter quizes, gives extra credit, and 4 exams. the exams are half multiple choice and half free response. he is chill and he brings his dog.
You can really tell he cares about what he is teaching. There are no essays and as long as you pay attention to the lectures, you will be fine. The only part that was bad was that he never updates grades except for the online quizzes. Also, he made us buy two books and we never even used the other one. Waste of money.
pay attention during his lectures, I know it's hard to, but it will make it easier for you when you take the tests. he gives out online quizzes that follow up the textbook, they're not hard to get 100 on bc he gives you 3 tries. get an edition down for the textbook, almost no difference in terms of materialtext. just pay attention and study! :)
Basically pay attention to the lecture. Sometimes he brought in his dog so that kept me awake. Make sure to remember the quiz questionsanswers because the exact questions will be on the test. 6 quizzes, 3 test, and a final.
Dewitt's lectures are long, and sometimes boring, but a lot of the material from them shows up on tests, so pay attention. Online quizzes are easy A's-gives you 3 tries, and those same questions show up on the tests. He's goofy, sometimes brings his dog, and offers a few random extra credit activities for those who show up to class. Very passable.
This class is American Congress. He teaches Congress as a simulation. There's a lot of material to cover before the simulation & those lectures got a little disorganized. But the simulation was amazing! You learned so much without knowing it and then at the end were like oh hey. Lots of assignments. He reviews what's on the midterm & final.
Dewitt is an incredibly mellow professor and doesn't care what you do in lecture, so, it's easy to not pay attention. Quizzes are online and are easy A's and 75% of each quiz will show up on the test. He stresses which questions are on the test for major points. He occasionally brings his dog which is a plus.
Homeboy definitely posts all his own reviews on here. Interesting guy, does the subject no justice. The only thing you can do is to take good notes, if you have the willpower to attend. Otherwise, studying for tests and finals is nearly impossible. Information from the book is very selective. Power points are useless. F this class.
This class was an easy A if you show up to lectures and read. The quizzes are based off reading and you get 3 tries. Some of the quizhomework questions appear on the test, and he emphasizes what to know for the tests during lectures. No essays. He's really chill and he brings his dog sometimes which is cool.
His lectures can be interesting, but if you zone out good luck studying. Power points that he posts don't display any information, just questions that he answers. Topics he goes over are not in the book, are very specific, and are nearly impossible to find online. If you are a Polysci major you would peak off this class otherwise stay away
Super nice teacher, go to office hours! He is very helpful and it's good if he knows your name. No essays, and the tests are half lectureshalf book based, the test questions for multiple choice are always from the online quizzes.
Make sure to keep up with reading quizzes. The midterms are the same questions from the quiz however there are several short answers to be ready. There are NO PAPERS so be sure to do amazing on the short answers. The final is cumulative so study. Dewitt is very passionate about this class and sometimes takes his dog to class.
Don't do it. Just don't. There is no homework and no papers. Your only grades are tests. He is not clear and boring. You better hope that you know how to store everything you read in the book because if not, you won't pass. He is of no help and doesn't answer questions clearly. He brings his dog to class and that's pretty much the only upside.
Love him
A couple of easy online quizzes. 4 exams. The multiple choice section on exams were from the quizzes (exams aren't difficult). HE DOES PROVIDE A STUDY GUIDE! Our class cooperated on the study guide which made it easy to study and pass! He gives surprise extra credit opportunities here and there :) Pretty cool professor and easy course to pass!!!
Just take him. I had been dreading this class for years (not my forte/my major) but he actually made it enjoyable & interesting. Class is easy as long as you attend & take really good detailed notes as well as do the readings & do good on the online quizzes. That's it. Oh, & do what i did & make it easy on urself & take it CR/NO CR if not ur major
Dewitt actually makes political science understandable. His class is fun, but you have to show up if you want to pass. Your grade is made up of the online quizzes and the midterms. If you put in the effort you will pass. Take his class! He is a cool professor, and he sometimes brings his dog to class.
Professor Dewitt loves his dog!! He's also a good teacher, lectures can be long but sometimes they are interesting. Test are really easy and there are no papers!! The only downfall is that a lot of reading is required for this course and there are are online quizzes. He also doesn't update grades and it takes a while for him to return test.
Grades are based on exams and quizzes. He has study guides that WILL help on the exams and as long as you do well on that, you will do well in this class. Yes, POSC is not necessarily interesting but he tries to make class time useful. Overall, he's a good guy and has an adorable dog that he sometimes brings to his lectures. Take this class.
The best compliment I can pay him is that is lectures are always useful. Sometimes in college we learn things, get tested on them, and then immediately forget them in lieu of trying to pass another class. However, Professor DeWitt teaches you how to critically think about the America's political system and apply it to life outside the classroom.
Great professor. Trys to make lecture as interesting as possible. Usually always lets out early. Class is based on a few quizzes, midterm, and final. All have study guides provided which are extremely helpful. If you show up to lecture you won't need the book! Overall easy A, and he brings his dog to class so thats always a plus side.
Brings his dogs to class. Cute, easy to pass, good study guides, lots of lecture, no homework.
Easiest class ever. He makes an effort to make the class interesting even going as far as to bring his dogs ! Study guides are literally the same as exams. Coming to class is not mandatory but he drops heavy hints on what will be on exams.
Take this professor. Funny lectures and he brings his dogs to class which is a good thing.
Tests are half multiple choice and half short question. Multiple choice answers come from the book and short answers comes from his lectures. You don't have to show up to class because he post lectures online, but he gives answers to short questions. He gives a study guide before exams and extra credit opportunities in class.
Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives hints on the tests. He gives really thorough study guides and your grade is just made up of tests and quizzes. You could probably get away with not buying the books. Easy class!
professor was very nice, brought his dogs a few times, and lectures were interesting. bought the book but could've easily shared with another student to do readings. readings not necessary, but helpful for tests/quizzes.
Great professor . attend all his lecture and you will get easy A. Test contain multiple choice and short answer. he tells short answers during the lecture. focus on your study guide he gives
The best professor I've had. brings in his dogs and jokes around a lot. THE STUDY GUIDES ARE THE EXACT SAME QUESTIONS ON THE TEST SO USE IT. all short answers are from lecture mainly. I missed one of the mixers and I had to do a lot of writing to make up for it so don't ditch those but other than that, attendance isn't mandatory. Great personality
Take his class! Tests are the same as study guide- 1/2 MC, 1/2 FR. He gives you the MC quest. ahead of time and the Free Response is exactly whats on the study guide. He does "mixers" which are quizzes and you will get all the answers at the beginning of class you just have to memorize them. Attend. not mand. but go to class 4 study guide answers!
His class is super easy to take! He gives out study guides for quizzes and exams, and it helps a lot for the exams. Just do the study guide and you'll pass the class. Easiest A I have ever gotten. He also brings in his dog!!!!!!! And he lets students bring their dogs too if you ask
Great professor. Super easy gives extra credit for showing up to class, study guides for each exam are extremely clear and he is a really fair grader. He tries to make everything easier for us.
His class is very easy. No HW or essays. 4 tests and 4 quizzes. He recommends buying the book but if you want to save 130$ I recommend you don't need it for an A in class. He posts study guides on BB that is similar to his tests. Tests are half MC from the book which are the exact ones from the study guide and half short answer from his lecture.
He brings his little chihuahua to class from time to time! He is such a nice professor! If you are a freshman/sophomore, I would say take his class. He gives you study guides to fill out. That study guide will be your golden ticket to most of the answers on your test!
He brings his cute dogs to class every once in a while :) You can maybe get a C on his tests without going to class but I would advise you to go. Doesn't waste your time. He's super funny. MEMORIZE THE STUDY GUIDE AND YOU WILL PASS THE TEST.
Prof. Dewitt is a great teacher and he puts student success first. He gives out lots of extra credit on tests and his class is worth the take.
He is a fun professor who brings his dog to class. He does not take attendance & lectures are not mandatory. There is no HW or papers. The lectures are powerpoints that he posts on beachboard. Your grade consist of 4 quizzes & tests. He gives you study guides to help prepare for the test. As long as you review study guides u will pass.
Super easy professor. gives you a study guide for each test and it looks exactly like the exam.
He is super nice and caring! He tries to make political science interesting and takes time to make a few jokes and even bring his cute dog!! His study guides are almost identical to the tests, so as long as you complete the study guide, you should get an A.
4 exams and 4 quizzes . No hw, you dont need the book bc everything you need to know are on the study guides he gives study them and youll get an A.
All I have to say is take him if you want an A
Lectures were a bit boring at times, but you should attend them cause he does give out extra credit when a lot of students don't show up. Tests are exact same thing as the study guides so make sure to study those. we also had group activities which were online quizzes. A good choice for poli sci.
Memorize the study guide and you will pass! Lectures are not boring at all because he's very charismatic. Best professor ever HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. No papers to write. No homework. Make a quizlet and you are golden
TAKE HIM if you want an A!! Class only consist of exams and quizzes. The study guides are exactly like the exams so just memorize it!! He gives extra credit when not many people show up to class. I actually enjoyed his lectures.
TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT AN EASY A. Hands down, he's the BEST POSC PROF! There are no other assignments besides quizzes and exams. The study guides are exactly the same as the exams so you can just memorize them. The exams consist of multiple choice and short response questions. The final is noncumulative. Darin DeWitt is your best choice for POSC100!
DeWitt is a good choice for POSC100. His lectures can get off topic and boring but he does address a lot of political jargon that is useful to know. The lectures are asynchronous (online), there were weekly reading quizzes (textbook), and 4 exams (lecture-based). Take notes, laugh with the class, get thru this requirement quick with DeWitt.
Professor Dewitt is honestly a pretty chill guy. His weekly quizzes are pretty easy and for his exams, he'll give you some answers during lecture so the exams aren't hard either. During lecture he'll bring his dogs to lighten things up so if you're a dog lover and you want an easy A, I'd totally recommend.
Extremely light class. This will be the class you forget you're even taking. There is no homework outside of class, just quizzes every week and exams every few weeks. If you want an easy A, take the class. If you're serious about political science and want to be challenged, this probably isn't the right class for you.
This class was an absolute gem. The exams were simple since everything is included in a study guide. Most questions come from the lectures so it is important that you attend those. He is very kind and understanding and loves to show his dogs before class every meeting.
Majority of the grade was from the weekly quizzes which were based on lectures and readings. There are three exams in total which consisted of a few MC questions and short answer responses. The study guides help for the exams if you pre-write the answers. Lectures only happen once a week while the other day is for taking the quizzes.
Dewitt's class was boring, ngl. It was easy to pass the class with an A though. He's a super easy professor and exams are easy. The class is just really boring. He gets distracted by the chats and his dogs quite a bit, so beware.
after 7 weeks i can say that i really like this class. i never show up to live lectures because he posts everything online, & quizzes are extremely easy. midterm was a breeze & he even provides a study guide!
pretty chill proffesor. Super nice and the quizzes weren't too hard. just maker a discord gc and you'll be fine. We all gotta take this class and he is the easiest and i actually understood most of what he was talking about. everything is super easy, no stress whatsoever. super funny too and not serious
I recommend reading this if you're taking the async summer session. There are worksheets per chapter, so a total of 13 worksheets and six written responses, so you have to watch the documents to do the written responses. It will take some time but try to write something, then you're good. Make a Discord channel and discuss answers with classmates.
Amazing Professor and class! He wants you to pass! He provides a study guide and his lectures are great. I did not think I would enjoy the class, but I actually liked it. You are graded by only three exams, but they are easy if you do the homework. Take his class!
I took this course to fulfill one of my GEs and did not show up to any of the in-person lectures, as Professor Dewitt posted all the slides and materials we needed online. This class is based solely on exams, and all exam material is thoroughly covered and provided on the study guides. Take Professor Dewitt, you won't regret it :)
A good professor to take to get a GE out the way. Just follow the study guide and exams will be easy!
Grade is based on 3 exams, textbook can be found online. He provides a study guide for each reading and lecture, all of which he provides the answers too. Exams are based on readings and lectures, he allowed a small cheat sheet, and extra credit on the exams available. He can go on tangents but overall easy A & he's a cool guy
He was quirky/funny and lectures were sometimes boring... BUT the class was painfully easy, grade is based on three exams, two of which ended up being online. I liked the overall class and for a 100-level elective it was a great choice. Would most likely take him again if I wasn't graduating this term for an easy class.
No work for this class other than to read the chapter for each week. Lectures can get pretty long and boring but his personality is funny and quirky, so it isn't too bad. Your entire grade is based off of 3 tests, but he gives direct answers to it in the study guides and during lectures. 2/3 were online, in person test was allowed 1 cheat sheet.
Super nice and great professor. Lectures were always fun and very engaging. This was a class which I hated to miss and was one of the best political science classes I have taken at CSULB. Highly recommend this professor!
literally the easiest class
Easy class if you do the work and attend lectures. Professor is funny and entertaining, so lectures are not boring. HW based on chapter readings, but you basically do it together in class. Beware that the only assignments in the gradebook are the 3 exams.
Darin was very easy going. He allowed us to change how we wanted the exams to be structured. The 3 exams given made up our whole grade, so I thought that would make it challenging, but it was the complete opposite. He will give you exam questions and their answers, he also allows a whole page cheat sheet for the exams.
Although this course only consists of only 3 exams, the professor allows everyone to have a cheat sheet and highlights all of the questions from the homework that will or could be on the exams. He is a very understanding and laid back professor. If you have any concerns for assignments or exams, he will try to work with you. Great professor!
Take him! He's a very kind, caring, and laid-back professor. Consists of only 3 exams which make up your grade. Allows everyone to have a cheat sheet and highlights the questions from the chapter study guides and worksheets that could show up on the exams. Go to his lectures because he sometimes gives you exam questions and their answers.
Super easy class, however the only things that went into the grade book was the three exams. As long as you study and take notes, this class will be an easy A. During lectures he was always super energetic and funny.
So funny and interesting. Honestly unbiased in everything and it's nice to hear real unbiased political science stuff. Super funny and easy, class voting on what is on the test, 3 tests (ask for che@t sheet). Just come to lectures or fill in the lecture guides from the book and you'll be fine!
He was the best, super sweet, and I found him really funny. He's very passionate about the subject but understands it's not everyone's thing so he makes the class really easy. No homework, grade is based off 3 test that he gives almost all answers during lectures and allows a 1 paper front and back cheat sheet so it's hard not to get an A.
TAKE HIM! This class was very easy! Your grade is based on 3 finals but he lets you have a cheatsheet that helps a ton. There is 2 worksheets every week but most answers you can find on quizlet and they are not mandatory. Attendance is not mandatory but I would recommend going because he often reads aloud test answers and questions. HES AMAZING!
EASIEST PROFESSOR EVER. Gives u test questions and answers if everyone asks for them and on top of that lets you bring a cheat sheet where u could write them. U dont have to attend class at all to pass and there was no homework. Only work I had to do was write the cheat sheet. (pls attend class he's a really nice person and deserves a full class)
Amazing Professor, definitely take him!!! Attendance is not mandatory and meets once a week. He is funny, caring, and genuinely wants everyone to pass. The homework is optional but helpful. There aren't any assignments and 3 exams makeup the grade but he is super helpful and does a review before.
Very helpful, clear test material, and relevant. Recommend!
This professor and class was super fun and easy to understand. Textbook is required but it'll be better to look online instead for paying 90-100 bucks. Study guides are given to you on Canvas, so if exams are in person, ask for a cheat sheet, if online, you are able to use them. He gives the answers during the lectures as well!
I lovedddd him he is so nice and funny and caring. He only makes us meet one day out of the week and his lectures are so interesting because of the way he explains it. During his lectures he will give you the test answers so make sure you pay attention, or make friends. We only have three exams and they are not accumulative and are pretty easy.
Grading contains 3 exams but SUPER ez. JOIN DISCORD!!! Attend class he will say out loud test questions and answers. I loveeee him and loveeee people in discord. He is funny caring and silly. This class saves my GPA. 100% recommend him. He wants everyone to get an A and A+.
An easy A for those who just want to get their GEs done. His lectures were funny and engaging, however, he talks very fast. For those who are trying to learn this subject, get ready to type fast. Class is graded by 3 exams which are easy to pass if you join the discord. He also answers upcoming exam questions during class.
i love this guy. highly highly recommend. barely any homework, lectures are entertaining and informative, helps out a lot for test and is super sweet. you should take dewitt. hilarious guy.
Love him! Gives test answers in class but does talk really fast so make sure to keep up. Lets you have a cheat sheet for tests but they have to be handwritten. Literally only tests and no homework. Join the discord and you should be good!
Solid professor. Your entire grade is based off of 3 exams, but they are relatively doable since he does allow cheat sheets.
This is the only review you need to see. TAKE HIM! He is so straightforward even though it was an asynchronous class. He gives good feedback and it's overall a breath of fresh air. Weekly quizzes and activity based videos/mini essays.
Took asynch, each week we just completed a short reading quiz based 100% off the textbook and a short assignment usually based off a video. Grading was super generous and the assignments were very easy (only took about 20 min every week.)
Such a great and chill professor, assignments of a short paragraph and a short canvas quiz every week, we had the choice of doing a survey or a canvas short quiz for the final. Super caring and understanding of his students' situations. 100% recommend!
