Completely anal about APA. Doesnt care so much about content. APA is his major thing. Seemed cocky and LOVED using AIM
Dr. Gerdes was very respectful when interacting with students. He seemed to accomplish the goals he set for the class. He was somewhat hard when challenged about conflict or disagreement over deducted points, even where ambiguity was involved.

Good professor. Genuine care for his students and wishes each student to be successful.
Very engaged and dedicated teacher. Puts a lot of effort into bettering his course. Very accessible.
Overall, the professor was tought, yet politically correct in all areas. I would definitely recommend him to any student.
Dr. Gerdes is a great professor. I learned so much in this course. He makes the DLP format such that you really feel like you are in a classroom setting. He was always willing to help and was very active in the course. He answered emails quickly and was available by phone and IM. I think anyone who takes this course would enjoy it!
Outstanding communication techniques and very effective follow up methods.
Was well organized and thorough in class. Very helpful and responsive to questions. Quick action and willingness to teach was great. Best professor so far in the online program for easing the transition of traditional class to virtual class.
The best professor I have had to date through my MBA studies...very interested in everyone of his students.
With 10 the highest, leadership 10, compassion 10, helpful 10, responsiveness 10, fairness 10, learning environment 10, teaching skilled 10, spirituality 10, challenging 10 expectation 10 Dr. Gerdes is the best professor I've studied under. I have learned and grew and have truly challenged. He kept a great balance with academics and spirituality
Great professor. He did an excellent job at bridging the gap between student and faculty. He worked hard at giving individual constructive criticism that will help me not only succeed in my MBA but also as a professional. This was one of the most rewarding classes in my educational career, and Dr. Gerdes had a big part in that.
This professor communicates frequently and efficiently. Great class!
Most interactive distance learning class I've had. Very structured & organized. Accountability is high. Professor's telephone calls prior to each exam was highly appreciated.
Dr. Gerdes really cares about each student and will make extra efforts to help each one.
Dr. Gerdes is an amazing professor and you will not be disappointed with his class.
Dr. Gerdes is a wonderful instructor! He conducts the course in a clear and concise manner and was always very helpful. I highly recommend him!
Dr.Gerdes is very prompt on the assignments and tests. His comment was very helpful.
Professor Gerdes is a very good instructor. He expects quality work from his students as should be expected in an MBA program. He went the extra mile to try to make sure that his students were successful in the class.

Dr. Gerdes was the most proactive professor I have had. His personal, one-on-one attention was critical to my success. He reached out and called me in anticipation of questions instead of waiting for the question to arise. He spent much time in reflective thought when grading assignments as was demonstrated in his extensive comments.
Good class.
Loved the scriptural emphasis. Dr. G is truly passionate about his work. Look forward to taking more classes under his guidance.
Great professor. Tough grader, expected your best!
Dr. Gerdes did an excellent job at incorporating Biblical principles with management topics. It is this that I find most relevant and interesting in my studies at Liberty. The additional reading materials as well as the class lectures demonstrated the application of God's word to situations that are faced every day. Thank you Dr. Gerdes -Marianne
BUSI 501 was the most challenging class that I have taken thus far with Liberty and Dr. Gerdes was the the most insightful instructor that I have had so far. He was very professional, very personable, and he was very fair. I loved the challenge!!
The professor was helpful and also called to ensure if we need help excellent. Busy Course
He is a good prof. frustrating when it comes to assignments and quiz days. You never know what you are going to be quized on. Overall a good class.
Dr. Gerdes is the absolute best! He is challenging and engaging. He provokes each student to operate on a scholarly and professional level but provides the tools needed for growth.
Great class. My only obstacle was learning blackboard.
GOOD JOB.
Dr. Gerdes was always willing to assist in any way necessary for you to succeed in the course. I hope I have the pleasure of being in his class again.
This class was awesome. Dr. Gerdes made this class exciting and was very clear on any corrections and clarifications needed. I highly enjoyed his class, and I hope to have another one later.
It was wonderful how he was able to interweave leadership into every facet of the class. Truly talented!
This was an exceptional course in every way! It completely exceeded my expectations. My goal is to take what I’ve learned and apply it in life. I will never forget this experience. Dr. Gerdes definitely walks the talk! Semper Fi
This was a wonderful class and a wonderful professor! Dr. Gerdes was involved with each student and always available to help. Would highly recommend this professor to anyone! GREAT!
Dr Gerdes was a wonderful professor. The easy/hard scale is completely subjective - but I found this class informative and challenging. I loved the group interaction and learned alot. Would recommend to any LU Business student.
Dr. Gerdes is very professional and brings a fresh approach to leadership theory, academic research and practical application.
I found Dr. Gerdes to be very knowledgeable on the subject matter. He was also very easily contacted and helpful if I had questions. One thing I would have liked, concerning the exams, would be to have it all on one page. I found it time consuming to go back if you skipped a question the first go around. Thank you!
Even though it was a DLP class, I enjoyed learning from Dr. Gerdes. To be honest, I did not expect the experience to be this good. But in a couple of weeks I got completely involved into the class, thoughts, and my group. Thank you Professor!
i really liked the idea of the prfessor always being available to help even though we were in a distance learning class. He posted his picture and presented lectures to the class. I liked both of these features beacuse it allowed students were able to put a face and a voice with the name. We new that he was a real person.
Hard, but fair
Dr. Gerdes designed a challenging graduate level experience. The course utilized a good mix of text, bible and biblical application to text topics which I found the most useful and supported one of the main reasons why I selected Liberty over other possible graduate programs.
Excellent teacher. He challenges his students to be good scholars. He's pretty strict when it comes to professional writing, but that's expected in a graduate level class. He actually calls his students around exam time to see if there are any questions or concerns. AMAZING. He also gives feedback to homework in .wav file formats. Really helpful!!!
Professor Gerdes has been one of the best instructors I have had thus far in my college career (I'm 20% done with my graduate studies). He puts forth great effort to teach his students and I would highly recommend him to all. High quality instruction from a top caliber professor.
Great job, I would definitely take another class with him as an instructor.
Outstanding professor! If you have the opportunity to have him ae is a professor sign up for the class immediately...he is awesome!
Dr. Gerdes was a great teacher! He actually took the time to call me twice in the semester to make sure I was doing well and understanding everything. I really appreciated that!
There were more than just the text that I listed above use. Dr G is a great professor that really cares & pays attention to his students. He makes the online format not seem as bad!
Always provided great feedback, always helpful and willing to work with me. The class was challenging but rewarding. I truly had to read in detail all of the text in order to get good grades on the tests, but I learned so much from them.
Dr. Gerdes is a fantastic teacher! Although I rated him as "hard" this is only because he expects the best out of his students. I promise you will not be sorry that you took one of his classes. You will learn so much!
Dr. Gerdes is an excellent professor. I especially appreciated that he gave his students individual feedback following each assigment, that he called them at least once to see if they had any questions, and that he incorporated Scripture into his lectures. Dr. Gerdes was the best professor I experienced while completing my graduate degree.
Having now completed the leadership courses I feel I have a much better understanding of the character and skills every leader needs. The project in this course helps to put the newly learned leadership skills to use. It was a rewarding course.
Great teacher, fun class. Student presentations were interesting, but graded fairly (hard not to get an A). Everyone got at least a B in the class w/ high % A's. Lots of extra credit. Teacher was easy to talk to and truly cares. Plenty of reading, but broken up between groups. A lot of true management experience. Prof. Gerdes is a favorite!!
I dare you to take this class. It was the best worste class I've ever taken in my life! But if your up for a laugh and some pretty frustrating presentations than go for it!
The amount of effort he puts into making the content understandable and applicable makes it worth taking his class. I won't forget any of what he said through object lessons.
It was really hard but also very fair and rewarding. Dr. Gerdes is a great professor and I would recommend him for anyone who wishes to learn.
Good professor; he's hard in the sense that he makes you think outside the box and will erase misguided beliefs in economics and government. also the 3hrs once a week is a lot of information to absorb. you will learn a lot.
He's a hard professor, and if you don't read the books and such you will fail. But..He is very passionate about government and business and in very knowledgeable.
Overwhelming quote: "Does that make sense?"
Dr. Gerdes is the man. he knows his stuff and his class was generally fun/interesting/informative.
course was rather interesting. 3 hours and not hard to get through. (discussion encouraged- made it easier). did everything to help you succeed - you want an A just do what he tells you. substantial reading- not terrible. no homework otherwise
Great teacher and gives a ton of notes and really really hard pop quizzes. He gives a ton of extra credit at the end of the year. His tests are open note but they are all that much harder.
DR. Gerdes is a very fair, interesting and thorough professor. He is genuinely interested in the education and transformation of students. He is challenging, highly interactive, thought-provoking, relevant and applicable. I highly recommend him as a competent educator. Excellent!
Still the bomb! Thanks, Dr G.
The best professor I have ever had. Couldn't ask for more out of this guy.
This was a leadership class for the MBA program. This professor really cares about his students and will help you if you need it. You must read the materials and partcipate actively.
Dr. Gerdes was a great prof.! His communication throughout the course made it an exceptional experience. Especially motivating was his audio grading of our papers and projects. He practiced what he preached in his grading style - preceding constructive criticism with positive feedback. His teaching made the course practical.
I enjoyed the class and learned a great deal about myself and my leadership skills. I however did not having my grade dependent upon a group project. In my case it ended up being okay, but if I would have gotten a lower grade I would not have been pleased. Dr. Gerdes was a big help and I appreciated the time that he put into the course.
This is a great class. You learn many skills that will help you understand your leadership style, conflict resolution, and dealing with other overall. Dr. Gerdes audit response for class assignemnts was received very highly. This made the virtual class room a reality because I felt like I attended class. Thank you for your personal leadership!
Dr Gerdes embodied the leadership he taught in the course. His communication with the students was excellent and he made sure the students learned by doing, not just from the textbook. Excellent professor and excellent class.
Dr. Gerdes voice PowerPoint presentations made me feel like I was sitting in a class lecture. All professors should mirror this format. It is very hard as a distant learning student to achieve this and Dr. Gerdes did it. It was the first class at Liberty (5th class) that a professor actually taught versus self taught courses. Excellent professor
Very interesting instructor, smart and he is straight to the point. Has Knowledge and skills. very clear on his assignements and strict on the assignement due date. I have a pleasure to be one of his students.
The professor was excellent. He always provided feedback and graded assignments in a timely matter. He incorporated the Bible with secular material, which was very important to me.
Solid instructor. Goes above and beyond for his students
Dr. Gerdes challenged me, inspired me, and supported me. He was available when I needed guidance, but he may not give me the answer, but he ensured I had the tools and guidance to work through any situation. His class was conducted professionally and instilled in each student the desire to achieve results at the graduate level.
Good course and the Profesor handled it well and was easy to speak with.
Professor Gerdes is very encouraging. He really cares about his students, and is always available when needed. I especially enjoyed how he used scripture to tie into the lessons. I would love to take another class with Professor Gerdes.
Dr. Gerdes was an excellent professor that I would enjoy having again someday during my MBA path at Liberty University.
Dr. Gerdes produced a thoroughly enjoyable and advantageous in understanding the importance of refining leadership styles. He is to be commended for such an innovative approach to self teach and learn more about yourself as a leader and a person.
A little difficult some confusion in begining of course and use of IM in a class was at times challenging because many students in different time zones.
ok, didn't really learn anything from his class that i didn't already know.
Prior to this class I had a lukewarm feeling toward the MBA prgram at Liberty University. Dr. Gerdes is a very motivated, interesting and engaging teacher who cares about his students (even in an often impersonal distance learning setting). I highly recommend his classes.
The group portion of this class, was a neccessary evil. I do think that 8 weeks is too short of a time period to conduct an expansive group porject and grade so strictly on it.
Dr, Gerdes always followed guidelines according to Liberty University and course syllabus. His leadership knowledge and conflict resolution style was taught/demonstrated in a professional and ethical demeanor.
Dr. Gerdes has been a great professor. He really cares about his students not only academically but personally. I would not hesitate to take another class from him.
My advisor told me that Dr. Gerdes was one of the hardest professors in the Leadership discipline. However, this was after the class was completed and that made me feel considerably better about my grade. I was exteremely surpised by the phone call and thought that was nice to touch base with students. Overall, he was an excellent professor.
I feel that this was a great learning experience with a group. I feel that everything was organized well and Dr Gerdes was always available when you needed hope.
Awesome Class. Enjoyed the input that I received as Dr. Gerdes' student. Loved his phone calls, emails, and general care that he gave to my group. Found him to be a wonderful teacher and human being.
Dr. Gerdes really challenged me to strive for excellence and has developed me towards true scholarship. His high standards are welcomed and his flexibility was surely needed and embraced by all. I also appreciated is willingness to hold people accountable for their irresponsibility, lack of maturity and lack of discipline. Excellent class!
Dr. Gerdes had a plan for all of us prior to coming to class. With the chaos that we encountered the first week or two it was not clear. But as the term progressed I understood the purpose of this course and definitely take lessons from it and have and will continue to apply them to my life both professionally and personally.
Great instructor. Dr. Gerdes was hard in his grading but very fair. You definitely work hard to earn your grade. I enjoyed the class and would definitely take another with him.
this professor was too academic for me, and did not bring to life a focus on real business applications. If he is the main professor that teaches classes on Leadership at Liberty, then I am definitely not going to get my MBA with a focus on Leadership. I did not like his teaching style.
Thank you for your genuine concern!
Good class!
Dr. Gerdes is an excellent professor who keeps in contact with his students on a regular basis. I was very impressed with his work and hope to have another class with him in the future.
Dr. Gerdes is complete in everything he does with BUSI 501. He gives every opportunity to his students so that they can excel and go on to lead by example. I highly recommend this professor!
Great teacher.
The class was a wondwerful growing experience. The powerpoint lectures and package file were much more informative than the book
EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION METHODS USED THROUGHOUT THE COURSE, VERY RESPONSIVE AND SEEMS GENUINLY INTERESTED IN HIS STUDENTS.
I enjoyed Dr. Gerdes class. He was very helpful and always available. I would recommend him to anyone.
Professor Gerdes' class was interesting and I learned quite a bit. The assignments were challenging and fun.
Excellent teacher and extremely helpfull
Dr. Gerdes encourages communication. He ALWAYS returns emails; which should be a given among professors, but believe me, it is not. I really enjoyed him as a professor.
Dr. Gerdes is the best professor I have met at Liberty so far. I have been at Liberty for 4 years and he has been very helpful and challenging. He always gives you feeddback and is willing to work with you on any problems you encounter. If I could I would take any classes with Dr. Gerdes that he teaches.
Great teacher! Challenges you to do good work, but is always ready to help when needed. If you are just trying to get by with minimal effort, dont take this class. If you want to get challenged band learn alot, jump in. I learned alot about research and how to put together true graduate level work.
Very interesting class. It will seem chaotic at first, but once everything settles down, you can learn a lot.
Great teacher, you will learn!
Dr. Gerdes is a very strict instructor, which forces you to do excellent work if you want an A. He is clear in what he wants, and he gives good feedback on what you turn in. I like his teaching style because his strictness motivates you to do your best.
Professor was very knowledgeable of subject, made the course interesting, and stretched your mind. I would recommend this professor to other students.
I learned a lot about leadership, he was an excellent instructor.
Dr. Gerdes is a very good teacher. If given the chance, I would definitely take his class again.
Dr. Gerdes is very professional, helpful, and dedicated to his students. I wish I would have taken his class first in my studies instead of nearly last. He has video lectures, and gives .wav file feedback to each student. He also called me before the first exam to see if I had any questions. Overall great experience with this class & prof.
Dr. Gerdes was a excellent teacher, he knew his material. But in the near future if less running around could be possible, that would be great. Some times I didn't know where to find things or instructions, things seemed all over the place. but the class was great, God Bless!!!
Great class and professor!
I could not have asked for a better professor. His level of interactiveness was high due to the nature of the course. You rock Dr. Gerdes.
I thought Prof. Gerdes was very active in our class. The audio feedback provided on assignments was much appreciated compared to written of simply a grade. I also received a voicemail from Prof. Gerdes which was appreciated. It showed he was interested and willing to take time out of what I'm sure is a busy schedule to check in with me.
Professor Gerdes displayed magnaminus intellect and enthusiasm. Professor Gerdes was, at times, ambiguous in his responses. However, much knowledge and educational maturity was gained from attending and participating in the professor's class.
Good course
Good teacher. Classmates are worse than him.
Professor Gerdes is great. He makes himself very available to the students. He is timely in replying to emails. His lecture notes go well with the textbook, so one should be able to pass his tests easily. I learned so much in his class. He is not difficult at all. I would take any of his classes.
very vague. Course was an elective and should have been easy. Out of my first 8 classes including finance and law, this class demanded the most time and in particular the most group time for any class. Too much time for an elective DLP class. I absolutely would not recommend this class to anyone as an elective. Wave file responses were wierd.
Great instructor
Great professor, very concerned about his students - highly recommend!!!
Very organized. Great followup.
Dr. Gerdes is very knowledgable, approachable, and also eager to help students be successful in this class.
Good job overall!
Very helpful professor! He identifies with his students and is willing to help with any situation. I would highly recommend this professor to fellow students.
Great guy and great teacher!
Excellend communicator.
Good Prof. Encouraging. A leader.
Professor Gerdes was a great teacher. He is extremely helpful and always quick to respond to any concerns you might have. The class is not difficult as long as you keep up with the assignments and do the readings. I would definitely recommend Professor Gerdes for any class you take!
Dr. Gerdes models the behavior he expects from his students. He is a leader that I would be willing to follow anywhere.
One of the best professors in the Distance Learning Process I have had in my past 3.5 years. He challenged me to excellence.
I intially found the virtual group format to be confusing and frustrating. Now that the class is completed, I have learned a great deal about managing over a distance; this course offered challenges to keep the semester interesting. I would recommend Dr. Gerdes to any student in the BUSI department.
In an on-line format, it is often difficult to communicate. Dr Gerdes effectively bridged this gap in communicating with our group and individually. His feedback was very helpful and insightful.
He is a good teacher.
While my interest in the class was middle of the road prior to attending, Dr. Gerdes was a key element in raising that to the top mark once I was in the course and now. I would recommend anyone taking BUSI 501 (or other courses that offer Dr. Gerdes as a professor) to choose his class. You will be blessed!
Dr. Gerdes is a step removed from this class as he allows a student leader to act in his role. If you are an independent, assertive student, you will do well in this course. If you expect a more involved professor and need more handholding, I would not recommend Dr.Gerdes for you.
Talks to fast at times. Will try to scare you out of your mind at first day. Difficult course with great rewards (learning opportunity, sense of accomplishment)
GERDES ROCKS!!! He is a hard professor, but if you can keep up with him, your grade will show it in the end, and you'll come away having learned a great deal in the management field. I feel much more confident going into the business world after taking this course with Gerdes. Thank you, Gerdes! -JH
A lot of work, faced paced lectures. But great prof, and very good class.
Lots of group projects which is frustrating at times. hard quizzes. I would recommend doing all of the extra credit.
One of the best professors I have ever had.
I enjoyed the class. I particularly liked they way you responded to our assignments. The only think that may help the class is if Liberty could invest in a conference call program. Our group felt this would help group discussions.
Dr. Gerdes was key to the success of this class. He was very informative and eager to see everyone succeed. He made sure that everything was explained in a manner that was easy to understand. He was approachable if something was confusing and I would gladly take another class that he taught.
This course and the guidance from Professor Gerdes provided me with better understanding of biblical leadership perspective. Professor Gerdes also provided me with a renowned encouragement to renew my spiritual foundation .
Dr. Gerdes is awesome! At first you think the course is going to be difficult and he will be hard but it surprises you in the end how much you like the course. The class can be challenging if you don't work well in groups but it is helpful experience. If nothing else take it for Dr. Gerdes cuz he has become my new favorite professor!
Great teaching. Great textbook. Dr Gerdes really challenges your thinking.
Great Instructor. Very helpful to the class.
This class has been a wonderful learning experience. Dr Gerdes was a wonderful professor. I learned a great deal. He was readily available to answer questions.
Awesome teacher, incorporates real world experiences in class!
Excellent
Innovative and very interesting lectures. It was actually a class I didn't WANT to miss. I appreciate the fact that he listens to students when they are overburdened with the workload. Gives students every opportunity to make that "A" and is gracious with extra credit.
Very friendly and helpful profesor. He made graduate class even though difficult diverse and fun.
Enjoyed the class. Learned a great deal. He makes himself very available to his students. Course was well designed.
awesome professor! I had to work very hard, but I learned more in this class than I have my whole college career! He gives you a lot of real world experience. I would recommend this class to anyone!
Excellent professor to have for executive Leadership course.
Very sweet man!
By far the best professor I have ever had. He is very competent and knowledgable in his field. Works hard to make sure the students are on the same plane.
Dr. Gerdes does a great job not only explaining the course material but actually applying it within his class model. Very positive reinforcement when discussing certain topics and overall a great man. Would recommend others taking this professor for anything he teaches!
overall nice but could be more helpful. He knows what he's talking about and is a very good professor.
Absolutely awesome professor. The class was a bit of work, but it's been worth it. I learned so much in his class, and I really enjoyed taking it. If you get a chance to take Dr. Gerdes for any class, you will not regret it. He is now my favorite professor, and I'm so happy I decided to take him. Take Dr. Gerdes!!
The class really focused on teamwork and leading within a team. Besides the tests, everything involved working with your team. He gave the teams plenty of leeway on how to present the group projects.
This professor is a dynamic speaker-easy to listen to, interesting, enjoyable, and very knowledgable. You learn a lot in his classes, but you do have to do some work. I would highly recommend him.
I enjoyed the class
The best professor I had with LU!!!
Good professor who was responsive and informative. Thank you.
Very professional
Dr. Gerdes is the most dedicated, attentive professor I have had at Liberty. He goes above and beyond. This course was extremely beneficial and I look forward to taking more of his classes.
I appreciated the humor that Dr. Gerdes used in his lectures. He made me understand how important it is to keep biblical principles if I am ever to be a leader and the difference between the secular view of leadership and God's view of leadership.
One of the best professors I have ever had... Thank you for teaching Leadership with a godly perspective to challanege and prepare your students to further God's kingdom. I can't wait to have a class with you again.
Thank you!
Engaged, responsive, conservative, opinionated, organized, tech-savvy, creative, appreciates and understands the learning process.
I enjoyed the professor he had a great knowledge about the subject of leadership and applying it to Christian concept. I would enjoy having this professor again.
Some of the material was over subjective without room to argue.
Comes pretty close to fulfilling the ideal. Wish every prof was this gracious.
Professor very accessible and responded guickly to e-mails and all inquiries.
An excellent professor. One of the best I have had at Liberty. Well-prepared, good use of technology, fair, helpful and all of the other good things I could say.
Dr. Gerdes is a little eccentric, but it makes class much more interesting. I truly attended his class everyday without knowning what to expect. He is also very open to the feedback of his students. In all, I greatly appreciated his teaching.
Provides students wih all possibl resources needed to complete this course successfully.
For the appearance question, is there a not applicable since we don't really have a view of the professor in online classes? Haha...I call this a trick question
very helpful, I enjoyed the class format. He added a nice mix of communication mediums throughout the class. He made an extreme effort to communicate with all of us despite the fact that we were virtual learners.
By far the best professor I've had yet. I very much appreciated his teaching mix of material and ethics from a Christian perspective. Love his use of technology with the "wave grade" (I believe it was called). I hope to have the opportunity to be taught by this professor again!
Great attention to detail. Love the personal and spiritual attention to all educational aspects of leadership. Highly recommend but be ready to work hard. The payoff is learning a lot of useful information.
Dr. Gerdes expects a lot from his students. This is a good class and professor for someone interested in learning practical leadership skills.
Wonderful teacher! VEry intimidating at first but definatly worth it! Very good teacher and cares a lot about the students he teaches! I learned a lot and he made it fun instead of painful!
Dr. Gerdes really knows his stuff; he talks a little fast, but makes sure you're listening and understanding what the subject matter is. The exams were on-line and you could use the power-point lectures. He's a bit intimidating at first, but stick in there and you'll be sure to learn a lot and enjoy the process!
Dr. Gerdes is one of the most interesting nerds that has ever taught a course that I have taken. I enjoyed his class.
Great teacher, really wants his students to succeed. He gives you the grade you deserve, but offers extra credit. Test are really easy and your really dont need the book. Class attendence is crucial. Rare teacher to have and great Christian man.
Is Good
The professor was wonderful. He really teaches you how to manage and to overcome many obstacls. You don't really use the textook but I have a feeling that might change. The homework was slim, however there was A LOT of group work. I highly recommed this professor.
He's an amazing professor, i really enjoyed learning about management and it's functions.
Cared about his students. Always willing to help you understand clearer. Is from NJ and you will hear that a lot!! Passionate about teaching! A great Christian example, and wants us to be the same in the business world! Very nerdy but sometimes that lightens the mood of class. DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK..its expensive and you don't need it!!
very intelligent guy, wants you to succeed
Excellent teacher. He teaches with a passionate high-speed style, that will leave you (1) thrilled with business, or (2) suicidal.
BUSI 503 was taken as a distance learning program class so interaction with the professor is limited. Dr. Gerdes responded to all my emails. He was available when I had technical problems with an exam.
Stickler for grammer, APA format, etc. Easy on power point
Dr. Gerdes is a world-class professor that knows leaderships. He knows how to coach his team and help them achieve their goals. His class is very challenging and will push you, but he gives you the resources you need to be successful. The goal is to get an education and that is exactly what Dr. Gerdes is about.
Great teacher! I learned so much. He made me want to be better!
Dr. Gerdes was quick to respond to questions and pushed me to be a better leader. I would definitely recommend this professor.
The only thing I would change about this class is the way we have as groups to communicate. The online chat is not a very practical or real life way of communicating with a group that does not have the capability to meet in person. I would suggest some sort of conference call with the ability to record the confersations.
Excellent professor. A true servant leader. The best I've taken at Liberty. I'd recommend all of his courses. Definitely choose him over other professors!
This is an excellent course with a professor who truly seems to care about his students and their interest in this course.
I learned a lot. Very well done. His enthusiasm is infectious. You can tell that he cares about what he is doing.
I really enjoyed his class. I plan on taking him for future classes. :)
Was not at times clear with expectations, but would always critic as if exact instructions had been made.
Knows his stuff! Provides practical insight and really wants to see students challenged but successful.
This was my second class with Dr. Gerdes and it was great! You have to listen fast or else you won't understand the instructions. Also, *ask questions* if you're unclear as to what he wants. You'll enjoy the class!
One of the hardest graders I have ever had, but this makes you work harder and feel better when you get a good grade
Great professor!!!!! Recomend him!!
Very smart - wrote his own book. He will teach you a lot in this class. Pray you get a good group. There are 4 tests that are all online/open book. Of a 1000 point class, there was 200+ points of extra credit available. There is A LOT of work for this class, but relatively easy to get your A.
At first when we went through the syllabus I thought I would be overwhelmed and have a really tough semester but I was wrong. Professor Gerdes broke everything and allowed enough time to complete each and every assignment. I appreciate that he expects nothing but the best and does not accept excuses. I appreciate that he desires a high standards fo
Dr. Gerdes knows his stuff and takes his grading seriously. His classes are challenging, but he wants you to get an A and will work with you to help make that happen. Recommended.
Professor Gerdes was very knowledgeable in his subject area. His system for group projects, though intimidating, was very effective for teaching the realistic challenges of managing. I like the class overall!
He is a great professor to teach management. I had a blast in his class. He was really funny but also challenging. I recommend this class to anyone.
Appreciated his the time he obviously put into the course. Also his willingness to make improvements to his course and help students succeed. Not a fan of one question quizzes and instructions were sometimes a little confusion.
An excellent speaker, who makes management exciting
He's a great teacher, though me makes you work to get what you deserve. I definitely learned a lot in his management class!
Excellent instructor. Truly cares about the developement of students. He has the experience, expertise, and knowledge to lead this course. I hope I have him as my instructor again.
Dr. Gerdes was extremely helpful and representative of biblical servant leadership.
Overall a very good professor. Uses media very well. Delayed responses, but always responds. Don't expect him to back down from a good fight.
Professor Gerdes has been an excellent teacher. He is very knowledgeable of the course material. He has shown a high level of excellence and has encouraged us to emulate that. He has been fair in the grading process. He has taken the time to provide comments and insight in our assignments that have been a tremendous help. Keep up the good work..
I enjoyed Dr. Gerdes thoughts on servant leadership and the fact that we looked at this leadership theory from a secular and Christian perspective.
Really, really good, he's very creative in his teaching methods and he's really passionate about what he is teaching which always makes it more interesting.
Fun Class learned a lot but lots of work
Extremely knowledgeable, Good teacher, class well organized. Much of the experience depends on how well your group works to gather. If they can't work to gather the class is going to be horrible. That was not my experience, so I loved the class.
Taught with a variety of approaches; kept it interesting and moving, yet was willing to be flexible and go with a student's question for a bit.
Was not the best professor I have ever had. You must read in order to do well in the class. Exams are VERY hard. Takes him FOREVER to grade anything!
Dr. Gerdes is very smart. That is where is skills stop. He is arrogant, unhelpful and has unbelievable poor management skill in regards to managing his class. Ironic since he is teaching business management.
Dedicated professor.
Challenging course, extremely tough but rewarding professor. This is my 2nd class with Dr. Gerdes and I like his approach to the leadership theories. Dr. Gerdes provides excellent feedback as well.
Dr. Gerdes sets high expectations for his students and accepts nothing less than the best. You will learn more in his classes than in any others, but you will also be more stressed during his course. His lecture notes are very helpful and he is always willing to correspond with his students both in person and via email/phone.
Dr. Gerdes was very helpful this semester. He called me on more than one occasion and always answered my questions promptly. Well done!
This is my second class with Dr. Gerdes. I had him previously in BUSI 502. His class is very challenging and very rewarding at the same time. He is fair and helpful throughout the course, and is devoted to the well-being of students, even after they move forward to other classes. His class is a lot of work, but worth it. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed his class a lot. Very Interesting. You learn a lot. BUT he requires you to do tooooo much work for the class. nonetheless it was helpful. Very easy class but too much work...:) i would definately recommend everyone to take his class.
Dr. Gerdes is a great Prof. I had him for 311 and now 441. If you take him, make sure you work well in a group setting. 441 was all based on group presentation at the end. He wasnt very clear with what direction he wanted to go with the class, but I ended up learning a great deal in his class. I would definitely recommend taking him for any class.
Great Professor! He may come off as a little intimidating at first, but his class is enjoyable to sit through and you will learn a lot of practical stuff.
He is very energetic and fun. Although the assignments were hard to follow, as Dr Gerdes always said, "there is a reason for this, it's not busy work." And in truth it really wasn't busy work. I feel much more competent in my teamwork and management skills.
This professor has a unique teaching method where you might not know everything at first but you will understand by the end of the semester. He is a good professor who wants the students to seek the answers. I would recommend him to anyone who is taking business management at LU.
You will walk away from this course knowing how to properly cite APA Format and knowledge on how the business environment is like.
Dr. Gerdes' passion for teaching management translates into students wanting to excel in his class.
I can honestly say that I have never learned more from one class. I went into this class knowing nothing about managing and leading other people. I was the group leader and while I can also say that I have never worked so hard for a single class it was definitely worth while. Dr. Gerdes is a very fair professor! Very entertaining also!!
Dr. Gerdes is a knowledgeable professor, and he will prepare you for your next step. I enjoyed the subject, but his style of assignments and how he sets the class up takes some getting use to.
Difficult class, designed with little clarity to simulate the real world. After taking the class, I feel more comfortable in group settings, delegating, and managing. Gerdes is helpful in the end, but forces students through the majority of the class to find their own way, in order to maximize experience gained.
Gerdes is awesome. Be prepared for Republican Propaganda, but also be prepared for an awesome learning experience where he is going to give you every opportunity to get an A he can. All you have to do is try. In fact, You almost have to try to not get an A in his class, and you definitely have to try not to enjoy his class.
He really stretches you to do things that you are not good at.
Great Class! Great Teacher! I liked his teaching methods and the fact that he gave more than just tests.
I really enjoyed Gerdes' class. He really helped me grasp management theories and knowledge. Thank you!
very interactive and easy to listen to what he's got to say
THE BEST CLASS I EVER HAD!
Dr. Gerdes kept the classes interesting regardless of what was been taught. He was a lot of fun, but kept the class orderly. He also offered a lot of extra credit and opportunities to bump up grades. All in all, I would recommend him highly!
I really liked him. At first he seems harsh but he is really enjoyable because he makes things understandable and is interested in discussion. You just have to get over his sarcasm.
He knows his stuff and he is entertaining because of the content he teaches he is passionate about, and he is sarcastic.
Prof. Gerdes is an extremely great professor. He is very helpful and is very flexible with extra credit and the course work. His exams are not easy and are based mostly off of the textbook reading. He is gracious with extra credit which I highly recommend. Take him if you get the opportunity, he makes lectures fun and entertaining
He is a good teacher. Tries to work with you a lot because you can tell he really cares about his students. You do a lot of little assignments in class that seem odd, then he will pull a lot of practicle lessons from them. I liked the class and the professor.
Dr. G. has been my favorite professor so far and will probably continue to be.
The Gerdes is an amazing professor. You will learn a lot in this class, especially since the "congressman" keeps class active and entertaining. His tests are pretty tough (i always got a low B no matter how hard i studied) but he gives you plenty of extra credit that is actually pretty relevant to the class. Take this professor
Everything is lined up in the syllabus that needs to be done for the year. Willing to work with students and point them in the right direction but will give you the grade you earn. Won't let you "work the system" as everything is presented at the beginning of the year, but teaches everything you need to get a good grade and in an entertaining way.
Great educator who wants you to succeed. He can be corny sometimes but it works in your favor. He also is willing to give extra credit. He only cares for your understanding of the material which is a very good thing!
Just FYI for those having to take 110 in the fall. Rencher (the prof who usually teaches economics 110) is gone for only a semester. I would recommend waiting until the spring of 2011 to take ECNC 110 with Rencher. I have had both profs in my college career and I strongly prefer Rencher.
Great Class. I think the best I've taken so far. Learned a lot about leadership theory and application. Professor Gerdes provided great insight and encouragement. Thanks
Very helpful, requires the learning of principles for success, would take profeesor again
More involved professor than most. Gives feedback with short and useful audio files notes versus the typical boring textual notes. Had as online instructor, but believe would be very interesting to have in traditional classroom. Would take a course with him again.
I enjoyed the class, tough but fair.
Easy A if you come to class. He's more interested in your development than your grade.
Great Teacher and fun class. He keeps you on your toes and entertains you. A lot of fun to learn from. Very helpful and caring.
He is a good teacher, he pushes you to equip you for the future, but its still an easy A, if you go to class.
In my most honest Opinion, everyone else is a substitute teacher, and Professor Gerdes is an actual Professor. You will learn in this class. The best professor I have ever had in my four years at Liberty.
Dr. Gerdes is one of those teachers who really betters you as a student and prepares you for life. Feels impossible at first, but you become so much stronger during the course, by the end of the class you'll be surprised by how much you've learned!
ok class, he teaches well, and you learn, but he's a lot of rules and expectations.
Great teacher, class never got boring. It was a lot of work, but very helpful for future careers. I definitely recommend him!
Pretty difficult at times but a great teacher. You learn so much and he makes it interesting and fun.
during class discussions he will "cold call" anyone in the class and ask questions about the reading. How you answer will determine your participation. You have quizes each week and test are open book/open notes and online which was very nice.
Bluntly, the workload of this class is what makes it a chore, not necessarily the difficulty of the coursework itself. YOU WILL WORK. You'll also learn a ton, though, and that's probably why you're in college, right?
He was harsh, inconsiderate of students feelings, and thinks an introductory class to Economics is for Economic majors. If at all possible, avoid taking him.
Anything you lack in assignments, can definitely be made up in extra credit... he offers a lot of opportunities.
The teacher gives lots of extra credit. I went in the class confused, but he gives interactive examples that really helped me remember some of the key terms.
If you have any common sense about economics you will do fine. He states his opinion alot but who cares? You don't have to make it your own.
Good professor! He is somewhat cocky but if you over look that you can have a fun time and at the time learn a lot about economics!
I had no interest in taking this class. I was dreading it actually. But Dr. Gerdes makes it fun and interactive. Lots of extra credit is given and powerpoints are put online. He is blunt and opinionated, but I find it humorous. The group project was the only area I struggled in.
I passed the first time through it so I am happy
Extra credit up the ying-yang. The tests aren't bad either.
Very good professor. His style of teaching front loads students with near overwhelming tasks in very short time frames initially but builds off of that ground work and becomes much more manageable. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Gerdes is an outstanding professor. I completely enjoyed his class and learned a great deal in regard to leadership!
Great professor! Cares a lot about the success of his students.
The class was fairly good. He is a bit abrasive (probably because he is from Jersey), but you can tell he has a passion for teaching. He keeps things fun, but he can be offensive and harsh too, especially if you are sensitive.
Dr. Gerdes is a good guy. He can be hard on you sometimes if you don't answer his questions with strong support. He says he s pushing you to succeed, but sometimes its irritating. Besides that, he is a genius as a teacher and will really inform you on everything you need to know for the business world.
Dr. Gerdes pushed everyone in this class but he was always there to help along the way. I learned so much from his class and in retrospect, I am glad I had him for BUSI 310. Easily one of the best business professors at LU.
Dr Gerdes is a really good professor. He cares about his students and has fun with us. The only reason I graded him like I did was more directed toward the way the course was set up. Good guy and good professor.
Amazing Prof, amazing class. If 310 was still a small class i would tell you to take it with him. Sadly it is going 250 students and Gerdes is leaving residential classes.
He is the best BUSI professor at LU. Take him and you will have a lot of fun and learn a lot about the management principles. Read the chapters and case study and you will do great!
Superb professor. He went above and beyond to ensure we had the tools to succeed in our studies. He was always available for counseling and or consultation. A tremendous asset to Liberty University.
Quick on grading. Very thorough. Big on APA.
Very good
Ukrainian Naxi
Professor is engaging and the class is manageable. Used unstuckstudy ai for extra prep which helped a lot. Definitely recommend this course.
