Goes very, very fast. Did over and above the course curriculum (equivalent to 3 calc courses almost). Allright notes, but pretty messy and you'd better bring your glasses.

Great teacher, if you know your stuff you'll do well leading up to the final. Then he hammers ya! Unless you know the content as well as he does expect to drop a full letter grade on the final.

His final is brutal. His lectures are clear BUT he goes fast. Half of class has no clue what he is talking about. If you are in the other half understands his lecture then you will be okay.

Excellent professor! if you cannot pass the course with him teaching, you will not be able to pass the course with anyone else. Final was hard, but marking is easy

A very good teacher. Explains everything in complete detail without being repetitive. Is very well prepared for his lectures, teaches at a slow and steady pace and rarely makes mistakes. Tries to make the content as simple as possible for his students. Highly reccomended.

He is an excellent prof. He goes super fast but does LOTS of examples. He also expects alot out of you, he makes hard midterms/finals but curves them in the end. Its not that bad, you can pass it with Holland!

Show up five minutes late for this class and you will already be two blackboards behind in notes! He goes through things sooooooo fast, but he explains them really clearly and does lots of examples. He also shows real life applications to what you are learning, so you don't feel like you're there for nothing.

Overall, a very excellent prof to have. The only problem I had is that he moves really fast in class, which, however, is a good and bad thing. It can be hard to keep up but at the same time, I don't find myself getting bored and dozing off in class. He is also quite friendly and approachable.

As everyone has already said, he writes notes extremely fast and starts about 4 minutes before class begins. BUT he is a great prof. Probably one of my favs and very under-rated. The best advice I can give you is MEMORIZE the "sample midterm" and "sample final" questions because the real tests are identical. With diff numbers. Overall, he's great!!

really amazing proff... definately knows his stuff! teaches with no notes, just right off the top of his head. his notes are organized and structed logically in a easy to follow way. responds to emails within hours, at the most within a day. his smartness, organization, and helpfulness are just... amazing!

If you didn't just step out of a math class, in high school or w/e, don't go into this class! He goes over NO basics and I the tests are nothing like what he teaches in class or like the web work. He was more helpful then the text, throw that thing out your window!

The class is definitely challenging, but he thoroughly explains every concept that you are expected to know and goes through at least one full example. I found the Webwork to be harder than the midterm and final; I also barely ever used my textbook. Also, he writes notes extremely quickly (and sometimes they are hard to read).

His classes move VERY FAST! What is most amazing is that he almost never uses notes to teach the class. He can answer the most difficult questions and spin out theorems without blinking. We missed his only attempt at a joke this year. He had to tell us he had made a joke. The man is absolutely brilliant but needs a sense of humour!

He can teach but his writing is terrible. I had him as both TA and Prof so all of my notes are a mess. His tests are also pretty hard and he didnt post much extra material which would have been nice. Decent at best.

He proved to us that 1=-1. Overall very good professor, his notes made a lot of sense but kind of messy. However, he explains things very well and this was probably the class where I learned the most (and paid the most attention) during lecture.

Darius Holland is probably best prof at U of C, all the notes and concepts are very clear. Yes, he does move fast, but its damn university, not high school. If you pay attention, easy A.

I found his class clear and easy understand. Gives great notes (little messy) and he explains the concepts really well and his tests are based off his notes and the textbook. He is a very lenient marker compared to some profs (he ties to give you the mark). Most of all he makes learning the concepts interesting. If you study his class is easy.

Holland is one of the best math teacher, he explains everything well (maybe not vectors, but other than that I understands all of his stuff ),he moves very fast though, I can never tell (vector units, the u underline, I always thought its a y haha)don't be late for class, or else he'll stop everything and stares @ you :)

Awesome prof. His notes are all you will ever need, most of the assignments were straight modifications of in class examples. If you attend class 100%, are able to do the WeBWorK on your own, then this course should be an easy A. For tests practice up on theory, as those are really the only questions that may be difficult.

Simply put, Dr. Holland is a phenomenal professor. He is very talented, one hell of a genius. I always looked forward to every Math class because of him and I even attended on days that I was not feeling 100%. He was crystal clear with his expectations of the students. Great math proff. Very clear, always willing to help. Extremely helpful 1 on 1, and also a gives good lectures. Don't bother buying your textbook because he never refers to it. Relatively easy online assignments. Lectures are fast paced but clear. Make sure you arrive to class on time.

excellent, easy to understand but go fast (on some section), clear note, hard exam but everything in class is pretty easy to do.. sadly there are no quiz in class so not too many thing to practice for the mid/final, however the midterm is almost exactly like the review and note he gave in class.

Great teacher overall. Notes are messy and go quickly, but are very helpful. VERY odd guy, seems a bit spaced out. He hates when people are late to class... he will evil eye you like nobody's business. Midterm was challenging. Final exam was extremely difficult. Went into the final with 86% and around a 54 on it. Very tough final... for me anyways

Very odd guy but loved linear algebra with him. Webwork assignments seemed harder than the midterm and final. Practice midterm and final almost identical the actual ones. Wicked hair! I would take another class with him!

If you have to take linear algebra make sure you have Holland. The course is very challenging (in the opinion of a bio major)but Holland will make it bearable. He explains concepts well but get ready for lots of note taking. Lectures are pretty much 50 mins of straight writing. He's sort of a strange guy but he knows his stuff and has amazing hair.

Really good prof. Sort of weird. Very fair in his marking and tests. Don't come in late cause he'll stop what he's doing and give you the death glare. At first it was really funny to watch, but then it just begins to disrupt class so be on time!

Holland is a great professor. Writes and talks like mad, but is easily understood. Get him for AMAT if at all possible! I have barely had to use my notes don't mind the textbook for the assignments because his lectures are that clear :D

Amazing Prof! I've had both Elsabrouty and Greenberg, but Darius takes the cake. His notes are so clear and explains everything so well. I don't know if it's because the course is easy or if it's because of his teaching but I've never done so well in Calc. Don't come in late or you'll get the death glare, and keep up, he writes FAST ~5000 words/min

His notes are very clear.I learnt only from his notes.Explains everything clearly.Mid term was very hard.But the final was very similar to the practice final he gave unlike the mid term.Answers to questions via email too.The TA Ali Kordi was very helpful too.don't come late to the class you will get the death stare.He is the best in teaching 211!

Dr. Holland is possibly the greatest prof EVER. He doesn't learn names or anything, but you feel close to him. Has fun little quirks too. Amazing teaching style, thorough as hell and usually answers your questions before you have to ask them. Assignments were easy, tests were very hard. Worth it to truly learn the material though. Loved this prof.

It's strictly business with Dr. Holland. He's brilliant, fair, and I would recommend him to anyone taking Linear Methods 211. I realized I struck gold with Holland when I was looking back at my extensive, clear, and concise notes for the final.

Excellent prof. Math 311 is a tough course, with lots of material covered, but that's not Dr. Holland's fault. He never missed a lecture, got through with time for review, and did examples in class that helped on assignments. Midterm and final is tough, but he is a generous marker, and gives lots of part marks. UofC needs more like him.

Awesome Prof! Just attend the classes and take notes. (He writes everything out on the board.) Study the notes for exams and do the sample tests he posts on the blackboard and youll get an easy A+!
