His exams are just pure memorization of the title, medium, artist, and date of the painting. During his lecture, he talks about the fun facts of each painting, but they are NOT going to be on the exam. This class is very similar to ART 1001, but with 2 essays, and he narrowed down about 100 paintings to memorize, but that's still a lot.

He takes random clicker questions, puts all ppts on Moodle, and gives all assignments on day ONE in the syllabus. He is actually pretty funny and has many interesting stories to go along with his lectures. So knowledgeable!

Spieth is an amazing teacher. I recommend going to class because it helps you to retain the information for the exam, memorization in your brain from audio and visual channels. Anyway, make 2.5"x3" note cards and study weekly! That's how I got an A. Review sessions help! No textbook needed. All material posted on Moodle! Study the essential works!!

MOST BORING CLASS EVER! uggh I couldn't stand going but you have to go pretty regularly because of clicker Q's. He does 20 throughout the semesterand drops 5 lowest. This guy reads from a powerpoint and the class is such a drag. TONS of stuff to remember for a little 25 question test.

His lectures are incredibly long and boring, he gives clicker questions at the end of lectures to make sure you attend class, but other than that there's no point. Everything you need to know is on Moodle. The effort put in outside the class is dependant on the grade you get

Spieth is great! Very friendly. He gives you all the notes and powerpoints you need to study, unlike other ARTH classes. Lectures are easy to understand. Just don't treat the class like an automatic A!! He gives you a list of essential works to study for tests - study those for a few hours and you'll do fine. Easy if you put in the effort.

He posts the powerpoints and the tests are literally directly from those slides. It can be a lot of memorization but that's all there is to it.

Dr. Spieth is one of my favorite professors at LSU. His office is always open and he is more than willing to give help if you need it. He is extremely knowledgable in his field and has so many cool stories of his work in museums! His classes are never easy A's but if you put in the effort you shouldn't have a problem!

Four tests. Clicker questions every class worth one test. You can watch Netflix all hour and just answer the clicker and leave. Boring class. Everything is online but there are usually over 100 paintings to study for each test, so be ready for that. At least a week of studying beforehand but there isn't any side homework. Helpful study sessions.

Expect a lot of reading for tests. Expect quizzes but a lot of them are dropped at the end of the semester. Tests are easy, just 25 multiple choice questions which most of them can be answered by common sense. Cool guy! Textbook never used!!

If you are interested in Art History, his classes are the best. If you just need a gen ed course then prepare to hate him. Listening to his lectures can be boring if you don't like the subject but otherwise they're very interesting.

This is a very easy class to pass. All of his powerpoints are posted on Moodle, and that is strictly where the test questions come from. The only reason you need to go to class is to get your clicker question in. Don't just show up for the clicker at the end of class. He notices. He will also call anyone out if they are watching movies during class

Spieth is so passionate about the material. I had him for an Honors art class. His feedback on papers is really great and his grading is very generous. If you put in the effort, you should get an A- worst case. He goes off on a lot of tangents, but they are great. He is very well respected in the art community. Knows his stuff!

You kind of have to attend lectures because he does clicker quizzes every once in a while, but it's not a drag to have to go to class (Although if you do miss a lecture, he posts all his power points online - and they're well structured and easy to understand!) He's super passionate about the material and fun to talk to, if you get the chance.

Professor Darius Speith provided a great learning experience. The lectures he gave really help you to be successful in his class.

Very knowledgeable in his field. He gives very much information on the topics he covers, and he posts his slideshows exactly as he teaches them on moodle to study. He is also very kind and extremely helpful!

Spieth is a good teacher. He lectures the whole class period while going through a slideshow of artworks. You can either listen or do other school work while in class but it is best to listen. Not hard and he does give extra credit on his tests.

Hey, if you enjoy snazzy fashion, fancy art and awesome accents take Spieth! He has all three! He might even throw in a joke or two! But on a serious note, he is devoted to his students and is willing to help. You just have to ask. As for the class, its as simple or as hard as you make it.

If you need this class for an ART Credit, then this is a solid choice, Dr. Spieth is very nice. I didn't fill out my scantron right for the final and he helped me out to make sure that I didn't get a zero recorded for that test grade. Studying for this class required more effort than expected, just be aware of that when signing up.

A very interesting class if you enjoy art. The tests arent difficult at all if you study. He puts all of the slides on Moodle so they are accessible for studying meaning note taking isnt necessary. Go to class because he asks a question daily for participation points, but its easy. He was kind enough to round my grade and gives bonus points!!

He is very intelligent on the topic, and class can be very interesting if you like art or learning about historical/artistic landmarks. Tests are not bad if you study at least a week in a advance, and he gives many opportunities for extra credit.

The tests aren't difficult if you GO. TO. THE. REVIEWS. Most people think they aren't helpful, and that he's just rambling, but he's literally rambling things that are on the exam. I went to the exam reviews and all of the extra credit (3 opportunities), and I made 100s on the last two exams. I would say definitely study a little in advance.

Dr. Spieth is extremely knowledgeable about the subject and offers many interesting details and the occasional personal anecdote. He is somewhat monotone somedays and very upbeat on others. The exams don't correlate to lectures at all (straight memorization), but I found I tested better when I had paid attention. Cool class!

Honestly not hard to make an A.. Ppts are all online & he goes over exactly what will be on exams during reviews. Lectures can be somewhat boring, depending on how much caffeine you've had that day. He is very passionate about the subject and knows his stuff. Also, he's German & he's got style.

Dr. Spieth's survey courses are EASY-- just make flashcards over a couple weeks for the tests & you'll ace it. His upper level courses are challenging BUT he truly cares about your development IF YOU TALK TO HIM. You'll be amazed at how much he'll help you if you just visit his office hours which is almost 24/7-- this guy really loves what he does

If you're not interested in art, then you might want to take another class. His test are simple 25 questions given out via powerpoint. It's an easy A. The only downside is the fact you have to study 200+ pieces for 25 questions. As far as the professor, think Benedict Cumberbatch as a 40-year-old German guy.

Make sure to show up because attendance is checked by clicker questions at the end of random class days. Go to the test review because it tells you everything basically on the test. The papers aren't too bad, just try not to do them the day before. The class is boring, but not hard if you participate. Tests lots of memorization, use Quizlet.

Pop quizzes are a big percent of your grade. All exams are 25 multiple choice q's and all the information you'll need is on quizlet, made by past students. I went to class because I really enjoyed Spieth's lectures, but rarely took notes, studied on quizlet, made a B. Spieth is a nice man who loves his subject and likes when you answer questions.

Spieth is very passionate about both art and history, and it makes his class a lot of fun to be in. He was able to make a topic I'm not usually interested in really cool. It's not easy though, there is a lot of memorization needed for the tests and (easy) pop quizzes are done every class.

Its a decently hard class, but just go to the lectures to get your clicker points and for exams, he lets you know what you need to study. He's very passionate about the material.

All you have to do is memorize some artworks for the 3 exams given and write two small papers. The class wasn't too hard if you just memorized from past quizlets. He gives bonus opportunities, really cares for his students, and knows a lot about what he's teaching. He even helped me out with my grade when I asked.

Professor Spieth is incredibly passionate about what he teaches. He said he "goes to sleep thinking about art and wakes up thinking about art." The tests are just memorization of the painting, the artist, and the year. He goes over a LOT in the lectures so its time consuming to study every painting for the tests. Beware of the pop quizzes, too.

This class wasn't the most exciting one to go to beings that it is very lecture heavy, but Professor Spieth definitely knows & loves what he teaches. The course consists of 2 papers (incredibly easy grading), clicker questions (go to class & pay attention), & 3 tests (2 unit tests & the final). Dr. Spieth is an excellent professor, and his HNRS 2021 class (Art and its Markets) is a fantastic choice for an honors art credit. If you put effort into the papers and pay attention in class, you will get an A. He does not give exams, and his final is take-home. I would definitely recommend Dr. Spieth.

Great teacher! Writing this review many years after the end of the class because it was that impactful. Dr. Spieth brought original and thought-provoking source material into the classroom, like engravings from Napoleons campaign in Egyptian and Edward Said's seminal book, Inspiring teacher.

Darius Spieth is a great man as well as a motivational and passionate professor. My friend in the class sent him a candy gram, he how much we loved his class. His teaching style was a little boring but if you show up to class and study 300 works of art for each exam you will pass with flying colors.

Darius Spieth is extremely smart and PASSIONATE about art. I thought his lectures were boring until he brought in a French museum curator from the Ecole de Beaux. Dr Spieth is funny but his tests are not. If you're not cheating with a group of people expect to spend hours studying on quizlet. If you need an art credit take interior design not 1001.

Professor Spieth is a great professor. The class was asynchronous but very easy. He answers emails super fast and there is no textbook to buy, he writes it himself on moodle.

Darius Spieth's ART 1001 course basically doesn't exist. You need to write a paper, do some quizzes, take three tests, and that's about it. The recorded lectures are entirely optional if you have background knowledge and/or google. I consider this a great thing, because I've got other stuff to do instead of studying art.

His class is really easy & he makes it stress free. There is only one paper due in the beginning of the semester & the rest is quizzes & exams. He also will send out many reminders when things are due which is really helpful.

This is such a laid back easy course. A quiz like once a month, plus 3 exams and a paper and then you are done. I would take this class again in a heartbeat. It is online though from it having to be such a large amount with over 1000 students but all the lectures are pre-recorded so its like watch them on your own time.

If you want an easy art elective, take this class. Even if you take it in-person, everything is uploaded to Moodle and can be finished with no sweat. For Spring 2022, we had to write a visual analysis essay, but that wasn't hard. Dr. Spieth also had two extra credit opportunities. Not sure about his other classes, but ART 1001 was a GPA raiser.

This is one of the easiest classes you will ever take. Since this class is online, you have access to all notes and PowerPoints and can go through the course at your own pace. The tests and quizzes are all multiple choice and not cumulative, and the paper is short. If you have absolutely no interest in art and just need the credit, take this class!

Pretty easy class, I took it all online. There was only about biweekly quizzes due, but he does give a lot of notes so you need to make sure you have at least some understanding of the material, its just frustrating because they are only 10 questions. Overall a pretty easy class to boost your grade.

This class was super easy. Everything is laid out right in front of you with due dates. This class is only quizzes and exams. The exams were only open during certain times. Dr. Spieth is a great professor whether you're interested in art history or not. His lectures are very compelling and he tries his best to make them interesting. Though attendance isn't required, there is a quiz at the end of every class that counts as a tiny part of your grade. The exams seem daunting at first but honestly aren't that bad.

While the class itself may seem intimidating, particularly with the amount of material you have to remember, Professor Speith does make it as easy as possible for you. The exams (3 total, final is NOT cumulative) and essays (3 total) you are expected to do are not very difficult, and you can get by most of it just with basic memorization.

Darius will give you a bunch of topics (~150 per unit) but test on 10 of them. Lectures have so much info that you don't know what's important. He has a textbook for free in Moodle but even then it's a lot of info. It's possible to succeed in this class but have to have one heck of a memory. Godspeed to those who take this.

I took an online version of the course that was well organized if heavy in content. If you take it online, each lecture is over an hour long unless you just take notes from the powerpoint. If you write down everything on the slides and keep your notes organized you will do well on quizzes because they are through moodle.

I took this online and passed with a 100. One of the easiest classes every. Test are on moodle and are not proctored. He provides all the information on moodle and it is easy to skim through and find the main ideas.

I had him as my first professor for any writing heavy class at LSU. Thought he was challenging at first because no rubric, but over time you pick up the writing style he is looking for in papers. Some presentations and a couple papers with a final research thesis. He is very understanding towards students and is always available.

I learned so much about the history of art in this course. So many cool subjects. I will say, you have to study a LOT on the lectures he provides! Be ready to memorize artists and their styles/art, because it will be on quizzes and exams. If you need help, though, there are plenty of Quizlets online to help out!

Great class if you're looking for an easy elective. The entire class is graded off of only seven quizzes and three exams, but they are easy to find. It's a very low maintenance class if you are looking for something to buffer your harder classes.

This class is ONLINE, but you can choose to go to his lectures. He puts everything on Moodle at the beginning of the semester and you can get ahead in the course if you want. Lectures and textbook material are posted to his Moodle page and he does his best to make sure everyone passes. Never worried abt this class and missed the end of the semester

Straightforward, simple course. Everything you need for the class is online in Moodle. There are optional in-person lectures that often don't align with your schedule. Make sure you complete quizzes and exams on time and you'll pass.

As a freshman, just take this class. It will take the weight off of you from the other hard courses, I think the main issue any person who failed this class or had anything less than a B was that they didn't turn in their assignments on time, he will NOT under any circumstances open an assignment for you after it's closed. Very easy class.

He'll spam you with emails telling you to take his test. All his tests are online, and so is the final. He has classes in person if you want to attend them. He is very passionate and caring. The easiest class you'll take at LSU. I made -A because I missed a test, don't miss them!!

TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU NEED A GEN ART! It's the easiest class to take by far. There are seven quizzes and three exams that are all open book, notes, and everything. Spieth constantly emails you to make sure you take his tests. He does have lectures if you want to go, but they're not required nor do they give extra credit or anything.

easiest a+ of my life. class is graded soley on quizzes and test which sounds scary until you realize all the answers can be found online using quizlet and other websites. extremely easy gpa booster.

Pretty much a free A+. Dr. Spieth is a great communicator and obviously wants everyone to succeed (he sends multiple emails before each quiz/test, reminding everyone to take them). If you want a stress-free art credit, this is absolutely the class to take.

It's very easy just remember to read/watch his readings/lecture videos. You can tell he is very passionate about the subject he teaches. He definitely cares a lot about his students too. When any assignment due date is coming close, he sends out at least 10 reminder e-mails so its very hard to get zeroes on his assignments.

The class itself is free. Everything's on Moodle, and all the answers are on Quizlet, but if you miss the deadline you won't be able to make up the work. If you find the class interesting, the lectures are fun and engaging, & he knows how to keep you interested. He also brings in examples of artwork for you to see and touch. 100/10

Super low maintenance class. No homework and no need to keep up with the class readings. Very paper heavy class but he's a fair grader. Just put the effort forward and you will succeed!!

Dr. Spieth makes sure no one can forget a deadline. He is not flexible about them but will email multiple times a day to make sure you can't forget. Everything is only, but he gives you the option to attend in person class as well. Almost impossible to fail unless you just don't do the quizzes or tests. Easy GPA boost if you need an art.

easy A+. just do the quizzes that are due every other week and there are 3 exams. only way to do bad in this class is by not doing the assignments since answers can easily be found through google. you don't even have to watch the lectures. he sends lots of emails to make sure you don't forget about assignments.

Easy but cool class

The online course is easy, yes, but he's also genuinely an amazing professor. I don't think you could possibly go wrong with taking any one of his classes. I wish I could take more with him.

I took Art and the French Revolution, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this class. Each time I needed clarification with an assignment, he was so willing to pull up different websites and recommend tools that would help me. He is very particular with how you write, but I think his critiques have only made me a stronger writer.

My guy Darius, he's so funny. His class is super easy and you can just look through the lectures and you'll be cool. He does send an insane amount of emails week of tests so try to mute him if you can. You don't need to study hard for this class at all.

he's so chill and gives so many reminders for graded assignments. it's honestly impossible to fail this class if you turn in the quizzes (usually bi-weekly) and the three exams. they're all on moodle so you can use the notes. chill guy, wants you to get an A
