very clear, interesting lecture and slides
great prof, fun and may i say quite good looking compared to the others ;) tests aren't the easiest, but if you study and read the material you'll be ok
MY FAVORITE!!! hes very clear, concise, and pleasing to the eye ;) its always an enjoyment to attend his lectures since he shows interesting examples and videos. still too early to speak about test difficulty but the first midterm was quite fair.
great lecturer, interesting videos and slides. exams are fair. good-looking +1 ;) LOVE his classes!!!
Time flies in his lectures. I wish I could listen to him talk all day because I never got distracted or bored the second he opened his mouth to talk. He is VERY VERY clever, good at talking, ORGANIZED (VERY) and GENTLE. Not to mention that he's hot. Also makes cute typos at times (eg. Serve two rolls (roles)) ;) HE CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS!
Very approachable & gives engaging lectures. I'm not sure if I just enjoy Psychology or if most of what he lectures are really interesting & applicable outside the classroom--probably both! I feel that the topics & ideas he handpicks to teach are relevant to me. (Classes aren't mandatory; everything's in the notes, but his classes are enjoyable.)
Why is the comment section mandatory?! Now this page is gonna get spammed with non-sense comments with random characters or letters like that guy who commented "h".
He's a fantastic lecturer but I think he paces around a bit too much (haha). For someone who has just started teaching, not bad! He made the content much more interesting than it already was and gave us real-life examples of how the concepts applied. The exams were quite fair but may be trickier than you expect. Expect to memorize a lot!
He is a great professor who genuinely cares for his students. He moves quickly in class so fast typing is essential, but this is due to the very extensive slides he prepares. I would love to take another class with him in the future.
Exams were quite different from the weekly online quizzes, much harder and trickier. But, may i say, he is just so pleasant to listen to!Makes SUPER cute typos and i would say he is a very gentle(and young and good looking) prof. Would like to take again in the future.
Really clear, well organized, interesting class. Some difficulty from the exams which is more due to the faculty rules than the individual prof. Very good at delivering lectures.
Interesting professor with very clear and concise explanations of all of the concepts brought up in lectures. Exams are fair and a high mark is achievable with only moderate effort. He also bought chocolates for the class on valentines day. 10/10
- Lectures are straight forward and interesting - Info is broken down into very doable chunks - Odic always leaves room and time for questions - I know exactly what I have to do to learn the material and pass the class well
Definitely recommended. He is EXTREMELY helpful and answers questions promptly and detailed. You can see he is interested in his students' success. So far the midterm was rather demanding but all right. Plus, he's hot!
He's an amazing professor. Really cares about students and would answer questions thoroughly. His first midterm was difficult because the questions were vague sometimes. But he did scale it. So far the lectures are really interesting and he always shows us videos of cool experiments. Love his class.
Darko cares about his students. Yay! He's the most invested prof I've had at UBC, and his lectures are great. He makes things as clear as possible and goes out of his way to help students.
After completing my first year Prod Odic is probably the best professor so far. Lectures are very clear, and posts online. If you attend lectures + read the assigned readings (which isnt much) it is not hard to get a decent grade.
Way too many quizzes and launchpad stuff. Midterms are brutal and heavily scaled down. Do not take it if you want to keep a good average.
He was super great prof! His lectures were fairly interesting and I usually didn't mind going to class. The most amazing thing was his discussion board - the Sunday night (and many other times) before the exam answering questions! Super dedicated and willing to help!!
Hes a very clear lecturer and lets you know what to focus on for exams. The exams are tough, but that's because psych requires a 65-70 average, and I'd rather be challenged on exams than be scaled down at the end of term. He really cares about his students well being, and is exceptionally fast to respond to emails regarding questions and concerns.
Darko really makes it feel like he genuinely cares about the class as a whole and is always super careful about being fair. Plus, class isn't mandatory. I actually wish I went to class more only because he was so nice LOL and it was actually interesting. Definitely take him! :)
Dr. Odic is an amazing prof. He really cares about students as individuals. He gave us a debriefing after each test/exam about the questions and the day/hours before an exam he was on connect answering questions. His lectures are amazing too! Definitely the best psych prof. The exams are pretty tough but that's just how psych as a subject is.
darko is amazing. what else can I say.
The most caring professor out there. He really wanted to make sure we were prioritizing ourselves over our courses. Makes lectures interesting, has tons of small videos (both a visual and audio instructor). Pretty fair tests, very transparent with marking. Would take a class with him again in a heartbeat. Has bonus marks up for grabs, which is nice
If you take PSYC 102 with any other prof you're making a monumental mistake. He's that good. Exams are tricky though.
Professor Darko is amazing. His lectures, slides and expectations are really clear. His examples are clear. He truly cares about this students and sharing his knowledge, not about your grade. He's wonderful and I would always look forward to his lectures. Would definitely take him again. He's amazing.
Good prof, would defiantly take the course again. Read the text and go over lectures for exams.
Professor Odic is an AMAZING TEACHER! His lecture slides are clear and very organized. He also really respects and cares for all his students. Exams can be difficult (especially the wording) but the weekly online quizzes and reading questions are opportunities to easily boost your mark.
The most invested prof l've ever had! and l doubt i would ever have profs as invested and helpful as him in the future. He would constantly answer questions on Connect even hours before exams. and his answers could be page long if necessary. lt really motivates me to ask more questions and learn better. l respect him deeply.
Great prof. Great lectures. MUST TAKE for Psych 102.
By far the best prof I have had thus far. Interesting and engaging lectures, and passionate about what he is teaching. Encourages questions in lecture and provides an inviting atmosphere to contribute to discussion. Overall thoroughly enjoyed this class. 10/10 recommend!
Dr. Odic cares about his students SO much. Every lecture is engaging and interesting, with good examples and clear concepts. If you have the chance to take PSYC102 with him, do it!!
Odic was great! Always prepared, and his slides are very well organized and clear to the point. He genuinely cares about his students and the course.
Darko Odic is an amazing professor, and I can't recommend him highly enough. His lectures are interesting and engaging, and he makes concepts very clear and understandable. He respects all students, encourages class engagement, and will go out of his way to help students if he can. I will definitely be taking him again in the future!
Darko's the king of clear and a great lecturer. Definitely cares about students' well-being and takes responsibility when things aren't organized on his end. There was a lack of communication this term between him and the TA, so slides/readings weren't posted. Main complaint is the readings. Horrendously too much information to memorize from them.
Darko is amazing!!!!Like i literally can not stress this is enough. He not only truly cares about the content that he is teaching but cares about his students as well. He is always there to reassure you when you are stressed and often leaves extremely long responses on discussion posts for students that are in need of class help or personal help
Lectures move quite quickly but overall a well-taught course;straight forward and clear. Odic is fair in grading and appropriately humorous. Not a course I regret taking.
THIS CLASS IS BY FAR THE BEST ONE I'VE TAKEN IN MY TWO YEARS IN UNIVERSITY. not only are his lectures super explanatory and helpful, but you can tell he really cares about the well-being of his students as well. One of the most genuine kind profs I've ever encountered at UBC. Definitely would recommend taking this class!
Darko is one of the most caring profs I've ever had, both in class and via email and the discussion board. His lectures are interesting and engaging, although can move at a rather quick pace sometimes. He is always more than willing to spend time going over concepts if you have confusion in office. Highly recommended.
Great, knowledgable professor who genuinely cares about his student's success and general wellbeing. Goes above and beyond his duties as a professor and makes dry material interesting. Exams are very fair, makes it clear what to study. Weekly quizzes and activities help with understanding the material.
I have so much respect for him! Really good lecturer, very well spoken and organized. He does move at a fast pace at times, so paying attention in lecture is key. He has a quirky humour and managed to make dry topics enjoyable. Very engaged with students and keeps in good contact with everyone, keeping us up to date on the course through email!
Dr. Odic is, hands down, my favorite prof (and will be for a long time). His lectures are clear, engaging. He shows genuine care for his students. He's funny at times to promote interest in drier material, and serious at times to outline the weight. He's also very supportive: I've exchanged conversations with him before and he's helped a lot. Tyvm!
SUCH A GREAT PROFESSOR! You don't need to attend the lectures to pass the class but tbh, you should totally go because they're always interesting and Dr. Odic is incredibly articulate and funny! It'll also help you a bit--I went to maybe 10 lectures and got a 74 in the class, so I probs could've done a lot better lol. GREAT prof. who really cares.
If you are thinking about taking psyc102 but scared that it would pull your GPA down then you should take it with Darko. Everything is posted online, midterms and finals are all MCs (they can be pretty tricky so make sure to read textbook) and Darko is exceptional at giving out lectures. He shows great attention to his students and you won't regret
fave 1st yr proff. Extremely engaging in his lectures & was very invested in his students. For pysc standards, he was pretty easy (if you really study) and he tells you what is and is not on the exams. Majorty of grade% from midterms & final. If you want an A, attend class & read the textbook. The online weekly quizzes were easy & a good study.
One of the best profs I've had in my two years at UBC! I would definitely take his class again. The midterm and exam material is fair (all MC). There's also 3 % bonus you can get on top of your grade since the psychology department tends to scale down psych courses. Overall, an awesome course with a great prof! Highly recommend taking this class!
I have to mention this. Last year, we students were afraid to get scaled down for our final mark again if we do well on the final because of Department policies. After the final, Dr. Odic told us we did really well, so we were pretty worried about scaling. When we asked him about it, he said he's got us covered ;)! That relief I felt was amazing.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had!!! Extremely engaging and has a systematic way of explaining things that never leaves you confused about a concept. His lecture slides are really well written so they are great to study from before exams. The structure of the class is great - online hw/quizzes, one midterm, one final.
His lecture is so clear, not only the structure, but also the content of the lecture! During his lecture time, it is hard to be tired because he made class material clear and interesting! Highly recommend prof if you want to take psy!
Such a great guy, gives awesome chill lectures. Not mandatory to attend because notes are always posted immediately online but why wouldn't you go listen to him talk. Gives great feedback and answers questions well, really passionate about psych, teaching, and students doing well.
He really wants you to succeed in PSYC 102! He gives amazing lectures and they're incredibly straightforward. But, you should go to class even if he posts lectures online because he explains all of the examples and its so helpful. Also, THE MIDTERM AND FINAL ARE MCQ!
His lecture is sooo interesting and clear. The quiz and homwork are a little bit more than other prof but they are quite easy, so thats a good way to improve your grade. His exam questions are a little bit too much, so if you cant do it at a high speed, you may not finish all the questions.
Fav psyc prof. Please attend his lectures. He explains the material really well and care about the students. The midterm and finals are mcq BUT VERY TRICKY.
He's really funny and great at communicating his stuff. The exams are very memorization-heavy, although they also require good applications of the material. Finally, you can get 3% extra credit if you do HSP.
Trust the reviews on here, he's an amazing prof. He does speak quite fast during lectures but its fairly easy to follow as his lectures are very well prepared. EXTREMELY active on Piazza so super easy to ask questions even if you're not on campus. Caring and willing to talk about mental health/family problems/general interest in psyc etc.
Hes one of my favourite profs to date. Be prepared that the psych department scales down grades to around 67 average. So although he does not give out high grades, that is not his choice. Hes hilarious and his lectures feel like something you want to attend. Although you dont need to go to lectures to pass his course (he posts it) you want too.
By far my favourite class of first year. Prof Odic had the most amazing lectures as he always came prepared, was passionate about the topics, and was a very captivating speaker. Prof Odic cares for every single student and he always makes himself available to the students. I highly recommend taking his class, you won't regret it.
WOW. I wasn't super interested in the course content but Odic was amazing. I would wake up early just to sit in his class and hear him talk, he's a great lecturer and knows his stuff. Course is extreme memorization though, so if that's not your thing, beware. But either way 100% recommend Odic he's a god!
Best lecturer, hands down. He is so engaging, and really makes an effort to explain the concepts thoroughly so that everyone is on the same page. Not bad for homework/quizzes (which are super easy), but as mentioned the Midterms and Final are decently difficult. (but they are all multiple choice so, yay!)
He's very clear about the material he's going to teach and what he expects of you. I always looked forward to his lectures and genuinely enjoyed them. He basically built my interest in psychology, and now I'm pursuing it as my major. Very caring and helpful. Definitely one of the best profs I've ever had.
Dr. Odic is a great professor! His lectures are meticulously organized, and explained well. Even though I got a pretty average grade in his class, I still remember a lot of information from his class and it is still very applicable to my life. If you miss class, all of the presentations are available online as well, which I find very useful.
Really great person and lecturer, and a relatively easy class.
Darko is the best prof at UBC hands down
An exceptional teacher! Learning is effortless in his class - he can explain the material clearly/concisely without getting sidetracked. He speaks thoughtfully and is engaging. Class begins and ends right on time. Doesn't waste time by making students "learn from each other." PPTs contain all the info but lectures complement the slides very well
Darko is a fantastic professor! You can tell he really puts a lot of effort into his lectures and he makes himself super available outside class. He's funny, knowledgable and an overall great professor. Makes test criteria clear and as long as you study what you're told, you'll be fine. 10/10 would take again!
He is a true gem! Lectures are awesome and he is accessible outside class! One of the best profs I've had
Clearly structured class with no surprises. Lectures are posted online and are easy to listen to in class. Exams are fair in that they assess stuff you really should understand and throw in some harder questions to separate the super smart and the not so much. Only real problems are that exams are worth 83% of your mark and constant weekly quizzes.
Darko Odic was a great prof overall. He definitely cares about the students learning and course content is very accessible: it is just up to you to study and do your part. I wouldn't call him the best professor of all time, but he is a solid lecturer, and explains things very concisely and to the point. He also adds humorous anecdotes which is fun.
What a man. PSYC102 is by no means an easy class, but Darko tries his best to keep us engaged and make sure we understand. He is a very good lecturer and even though it was a big class, you could tell that he really wanted us to do well and did as much as he could to facilitate understanding. Him and the TAs were also very efficient on piazza.
Arguably the greatest professor at this school. Every lecture was engaging and packed with information; they felt like well rehearsed tedtalks. The content in this course can be tough and abstract, and there is a lot of content, but Odic does a fantastic job covering what you need to know. He sparked a real passion for psychology in the class.
AMAZING LECTURES!!!
Amazing Prof, though his lecture is heavy, definitely worth taking
Always ready to answer any questions you have and a good chunk of the final grade was from mypsychlab activities - all completion. Definitely recommend him for 102.
Overall he's alright... I wouldn't say his inspirational but he cares about the students. I found his lectures to be too information packed which made class drag on forever. Quizzes were quite hard and when taking his class read the textbook and fine those fine details and read his slides. His exams are tricky but do-able.
He is a caring and sweet professor. Would definitely suggest taking his class because it was so well planned and explained. Also go to his office hours because he is super sweet if you have any questions or want to look over an exam.
I was always excited to go to his lectures in the morning, he is engaging the entire time which helped me maintain interest to study at home. He posts his slides online, but I still found going to his lectures a fun experience because he truly cared about the topics he was teaching. He doesn't try to trick you in the exams if you read the textbook.
Darko is very interesting and kind. I had so much fun attending lectures, and his use of videos and examples as well as class activities helped me to retain a ton of the information come test day. Very organized and clear slides that are posted online, and his explanations were exceptional. He is helpful and willing to give extra practice.
Honestly the best prof I've had at UBC. Extremely engaging and well-rehearsed lectures. It's for sure not an easy course, but Darko makes it worthwhile. I was excited to attend every lecture - having a prof who clearly loves what he teaches makes a huge difference!
One of the best profs I've ever had! He is so knowledgable with the material and really cares about his students. I always had motivation to take his class. Although the materials are heavy and exams are difficult, but he definitely made it easier.
He gives the best lectures I've ever heard in my life. Something about the way he waves his hands around and paces around the front of the class puts me in a trance and I suddenly understand all the material perfectly.
Dr. Odic is the best prof I've had at UBC. Not only is he incredibly caring, taking in mind his students' opinions and responding to all questions on Piazza, but his lectures were incredible. I felt like I was watching a presentation, and studying was a breeze because I retained his lectures so well. I hope he teaches my future psych classes!
engaging lectures that are captivating and enjoyable. an extremely caring professor who keeps students up to date with everyone in ridiculous detail (ridiculous in the best way possible). in light of recent coronavirus, Darko has been with the students the entire way updating piazza, canvas, and being the most understanding professor ever
He has been amazing this entire term, but especially now that classes have been moved online. He really interacts with students and listens to each and every one of our opinions. He's also been taking extra time to make lectures and resources accesible for us.
Exceptional lecturer, one of the best by far. All of his material is engaging and well-explained. Dr. Darko has also done a phenomenal job asking for feedback from students in light of COVID-19 and working to find solutions that work for the class. Well-structured with a clear system of resources available if you are struggling!
Darko is absolutely the best prof I've ever had. I totally love his well-rehearsed lectures. He is super available and active on Piazza, and answers tons of questions even on weekends. Especially in this challenging time, he shows great concerns towards students and really respects their opinions. Btw, his curly locks are cute!
Very clear, well-spoken lectures that made the content very understandable. His quizzes and tests were hard, whereas textbook practice questions were quite easy. Given the recent COVID-19 situation, Darko was incredibly accomodating- he always considered student opinions and went above and beyond to help us excel. Even made the final exam optional!
Darko is one of the most incredible and well spoken professors I have ever had. He inspired me every lecture. His lectures were organized and clear. His exams were defiantly challenging but nonetheless he is one of the best professors at UBC hands down! If you get the chance to take a class with him do it!!!!
He made psych really interesting and easy to learn. There is some individual learning from the textbook though. As long as you study early and cover the textbook material as well it is easy to get a good mark. Exams weren't bad if you understood the concepts/memorized.
Really funny and caring prof! The midterms and exams are hard because he makes it hard so he doesn't have to scale the grades (it's a psych policy) so read the textbook, his lecture notes, and do a lot of Launchpad activities to get a decent grade
While Odic is respected by many, he isn't as good of a professor as he seems. His lectures can be impressive as he memorizes and plans them ahead of time; however, his exams can be wordy and tricky. If you are looking for an engaging lecturer, he's definitely a solid choice. But NOT a GPA booster course if you are looking for easy exams or content.
Darko is the best prof I've ever had. His lectures are amazing and he is super organized and clear. Definitely pick his class for psych102. He's very sweet and approachable and really cares about his students. He's super passionate about the subject and his passion is very inspiring.
Darko Odic is a wonderful professor & person. He is the most compassionate prof I've had, and he is always fair and gives people the benefit of the doubt. The only problem I had is that he has a tendency to rush the ends of his lectures because he tries to fit in so much info! Otherwise, do your work, READ THE TEXTBOOK, and read test q's carefully.
Amazing lectures but not mandatory. Can pass by doing the readings plus studying the lecture slides but would recommend going. Grades by few things which isn't so hard. Would def take again! Exams can be a little hard!
I fell in love with this professor from the very first class. His lectures are very well organized and clear. He gives great and interesting examples to start off each lecture, and he has an outstanding eloquence. Tests consist both lecture and textbook materials. Professor Odic is really a gem. You won't regret taking his class.
Great prof! His lectures are very clear and he breaks down concepts very well with funny examples. Cares about his students and made the transition to online courses easier. Tried to be very understanding during COVID-19 (loads of emails, clearly cares). Text book reading is definitely required but lectures are also very important (so study both).
It's a dense course but he does everything he can to make it easy on you. Super nice and caring, specifies exactly what will be on exams. If you read the text and do the online quizzes, you should be fine.
His classes are really good. Most of the content in the midterm and the final are from the lecture slides. He explains concepts really well and you can see how passionate he is about psychology. Definitely would recommend.
He teaches something and asks something completely different on the exams. Content in lectures is usually different from content in textbook so you end up having to study twice the material than you would in another professor's class. Expects students to learn textbook concepts on their own. UMM LIKE WHY YOU EVEN HERE THEN.
By far the best professor I've had so far. He's super caring as well as accommodating & his lectures are super interesting. Exams can be a bit hard, especially if you don't do the readings and watch the lectures, generally testing how well you actually understand the material and connect it to other concepts. (if you do badly, it's mostly on you)
Dr. Odic made me love psychology and want to take more psych courses in the future; he is an amazing lecturer and very accommodating to students. Midterms were quite tough with some tricky questions, but this is dependent on you watching all lectures, reading the textbook and doing weekly quizzes to prepare.
Dr Odic is caring and is specifically accommodating to students in regards to COVID-19. However I felt his slides contained a lot of information/text making it difficult to synthesis ideas and I often got lost by all the text. The weekly quizzes were manageable but some questions were difficult and need to be done with careful thinking.
Professor Odic is a great prof. He clearly knows what he's doing, and puts in much effort and care into the course and his students. His lectures are very engaging. Best lecturer I've had at UBC! HOWEVER, his quizzes/midterms can be quite tricky, and hard to get a good grade. You will need to study a lot and deeply understand the content for an A.
Most organized, clear, no mis understandings. He delivers class materials very well, and respectfully.
Great prof - extremely organized, knowledgeable, and clear. Dr. Odic's lectures are super interesting and effective. Quizzes and exams are definitely not easy, but I think that's because the psyc department has a scaling policy. Still highly recommend Darko if you get the chance though!!
I really respect Professor Odic; he tried to make learning in a pandemic easier by making only 1/2 midterms and the final mandatory, while making everything else optional. Make sure to attend lectures, and read the readings, or you will not pass. Fair warning, this class is not a GPA booster as others say it is, but the material is interesting
This class was entirely asynchronous, but the lectures were super interesting and informative. Dr. Odic does a great job of sparking your interest and making you feel passionate about learning the material. There are clear instructions on how the course is structured and it's super easy to reach him with any questions.
Professor Odic is an amazing lecturer, even with the online format. He explains things in the clearest of ways & the lectures were super illustrative. The weekly quizzes & midterms are harder than you may think, so make sure to understand the concepts clearly. I learned a lot in this course & I wish I could've listened to his lectures in person :(
Prof. Odic's lectures were inspirational and interesting. He gave the clearest instructions for studying for exams and responded real quickly on Piazza. Provided all the resourcesport I can think of. Set up extra exam time slots for students who are in a different time zone and stayed up until 5 am in case we ran into any problems. I love him.
This dude is incredible at his job. Best instructor I've ever had. Love of my life? Maybe. I mean, those curls... damn. Seriously though, the clearest possible instruction and best possible course format - I actually looked forward to his lectures despite hating online school. Amazing.
A good prof, delivery of the content was not great.
Darko is an AMAZING prof and a great person. His lectures were so interesting, and he is super organized and accessible out of class. That being said, the PSYC dept has a scaling policy, so Dr. Odic has no choice but to make his exams challenging in order to meet the policy. Overall great class & prof, but definitely not an easy one!
One of the few profs that did a really great job at adjusting the course and expectations during the pandemic. He was really mindful of the workload we were receiving from other classes as he made all assignments and quizzes optional. He also made the final open book and it was not individuated which made studying much less stressful.
Amazing prof. Super caring and clear on the content. He delivers his lectures at a good pace, with great slides to go with it. He responded quickly online (Piazza) and is supportive and accommodating of his students. He makes the course interesting and is clear about what material may be on tests.
By far my favorite Professor! He grades fairly, gives great lectures, and makes awesome ppts. Honestly, I didn't do much reading, except the materials he specifically states that will be included in tests but not in lectures. You will do great in class if you pay attention to lectures and take notes. Take his class, and you won't regret it!
I absolutely LOVE Prof. Odic. He was super caring and considerate outside of class and I feel that he really cared despite the high number of people in the class. His material is super interesting and it was one of my less stressful classes overall. Definitely recommend his class!
He's a great professor! His classes are very interesting and he shows true care for all his students. Very approachable and compassionate
Very organized, engaging and well rehearsed lectures, quick responses.
Professor Odic was an amazing lecturer and structured the course very nicely. The only reason why I am not giving 5/5 is because of his open-book quizzes. Dr. Odic was very accommodating during COVID-19 times and made all quizzes open book, but some of the questions were definitely a stretch and could be interpreted in way too many ways.
Extremely well-organized course. It is a little reading-heavy but it's nothing too unbearable, as long as you read the slides and the textbook. There r weekly quizzes which aren't too bad as long as you read all the material and do the inquizitives. Overall Darko is an amazing prof, very knowledgeable and caring, would 100% recommend!!
Odic's lectures are really interesting. Textbook readings are kind of long. Doing his weekly quizzes definitely helped in prepping for the midterms and final. His questions r pretty difficult / sometimes worded poorly but u get used to them after a few quizzes. Responds quickly on piazza and had options if u r uncomfortable with attending in-person
The way Darko explains the material is engaging. I think he is an excellent professor and he cares a lot about his students. On Piazza, he responds quickly and he enjoys looking at the psych memes that all the students create. Make sure you study hard and know the material well because the tests are based on understanding rather than memorization.
Was a fairly heavy course, but not hard to do well if you engage in everything (including optional quizzes etc.) Lots of textbook reading that is testable plus the lectures. Some questions test questions are very specific. Lectures are well done, although I could just use slides and do decent. Easily accessible over piazza.
Darko is simply fantastic. He takes the time to discard bad quiz questions for EVERY quiz, of which there are 12, which shows how much he cares about doing right by us. His lectures are dense but super interesting, and he's very engaged both in person and on Piazza. I took this class because I read that he was wonderful, and he did not disappoint!!
Dr. Odic is fantastic, he is quite forgiving in grading with lots of possibilities to make up for lost marks. The only downside is that the tests are extremely difficult, but are open book.
Engaging lectures, fair marking (will remark when students justify their answers), and clear explanations. Is lecture-heavy and textbook-heavy, not a light course, you have to work for the A. Exams based on connecting concepts to each other rather than memorization. Super accommodating. Piazza is SO helpful, fast responses. TAKE DARKO'S CLASS!
I'd recommend Darko's class to just about anybody. He's extremely organized, very responsive on Piazza, and creates optional audio content for students' enrichment. He also takes the time to eliminate unfair questions on quizzes and tests. His tests are remarkably fair too, and his explanation of concepts is so clear and concise during lectures.
best. prof. ever! extremely organized, and delivered content clearly. he provided extra resources+content and was extremely accessible (FAST piazza responses, office hours). he clearly cares about his students and his work (he even had office hours after the final exam period). the bad: exams were a bit tricky and the class was VERY textbook heavy.
Dr. Odic seems like a really great person but I found his lectures too fast paced and the textbook content to be overwhelming and unrelated to lectures. It was hard to know what to study as there was just so much content. Overall he is a fantastic person but because of the class itself and how he organized it I didn't enjoy it very much.
I'm sure he's a great guy, but he crams in too much material. Outside of lectures which he never has enough time to talk about all the material in anyway, students have self study the textbook weekly with more testable content. Slides are difficult to annotate because everything is there and he just reads it out loud. Very monotonous lectures.
odic puts in so much effort into this course, so thank you for that. however, his lectures were redundant and often went over time. he spent decades explaining simple concepts, and delegated everything else to reading chapters and chapters of the textbook give professor inquizitive some credit for teaching half the examinable material
Professor Odic is a really caring guy, who seems genuinely passionate about the subject he's teaching, but it always felt like he was just reading off slides. I left each class unmotivated and bored, so I stopped going and taught myself. Tests are heavy on textbook content. The upside: the only mandatory things are 1 of 2 midterms, and the final.
He went through slides too fast in class, and basically just read off of them word for word. Most lectures I would just be copy and pasting the slides into my notes-- just to keep up. Although the class was not the most engaging, he is very passionate about the topic, and is accessible outside of class. An overall good prof and a fair marker.
he really just gives you all the tools you need in order to do well in this class, super easy to follow I never felt behind
I really believe that Darko cares tremendously about how well his classes performed. He does a check in and quiz every week which is never time consuming. However, I really don't enjoy the way he words some questions. I especially despise the '__ is to __ as...'. There is also an enormous chunk of lecture+textbook content that we need to learn.
This professor dumps loads of boring material in class, reads off slides, and makes tests tricky with weirdly worded questions. Plus, there's a ton of textbook reading, but no hints on what's actually important, so you end up wasting time going over stuff you already know.
I have ALL the good things to say about Dr.Odic. His course is extremely organized and has all the recourses you need. Exams requires both textbook and lecture, imo the questions are quite straightforward. However, it requires you to understand the concept on a deeper level beyond just definitions. Overall, it has been a very enjoyable course.
Extremely well organized, would not want another teacher
Dr. Odic cares more about student performance than almost any other professor I've had at UBC. He is very easy to contact and establish a relationship with. The majority of grades come from exams, it is absolutely crucial to do your readings and go to classes. Just like any lecture, it can be mundane; it's helpful to sit up in the front to engage!
I appreciated how he'd drop bad questions on exams. This class is lecture and textbook HEAVY, there is a lot to know. I hated how he worded his questions as you would have to infer an answer, rather than it being straightforward. He always keeps a space for feedback in check ins. If you can deal with roundabout questions, you'll be fine. Good prof.
GREAT lecturer, best slides out of all profs Y1 for me. Cares ab students (will drop qs on weekly quizzes and exams if most get wrong). To the point, logical, clear. Exams are memorization heavy like 101. Would def recc reviewing terms each week vs all b4 exams. Overall great prof and would take again
He is the best professor around for this course if you are looking for someone who takes student feedback, gives reasonable amounts of work, gives great study guides, has interesting and detailed lectures that he records, is insanely accessible outside of classes, and has one of the most organized work ethics. Definitely would recommend.
Best prof I've had at UBC so far. Super inspirational, engaging, and most importantly the content is super well organized into units and the expectations are very clear.
The professor is organized and engaging, with clear expectations. While the course can be lecture-heavy, using unstuck AI and attending classes helps. Exams require deep understanding, but with the right study strategies, this is an enjoyable class.
Professor Darko truly cares about his students' success. Weekly check-ins allowed students to provide direct feedback about any issues or course content that needed to be clarified. The lectures were engaging, and recordings were available. The tests were fair, but you need to understand concepts well. Definitely recommend!
Super Super hard testing prof, he seems like a good guy but for an intro course, the test material and awkward phrasing is way too hard.
Much too difficult of a class. Even if you spend hours studying all the material and go to lecs the way he formats the questions makes it very difficult to do well even if you put enough effort. Do NOT take this as an elective even if you enjoy the subject unless you want to tank your gpa. Coming from a student with 83 average before this class.
Seems like a good person, super boring lecturer. Slides have a billion words and you gotta read another billion in the textbook. Only take if you REALLLLLLLY care about psychology, so much effort to maintain good grades for an elec
Seems like a nice and caring guy but tests are VERY difficult. It's impossible to know some of the answers, even if you study everything. Rest in peace to my GPA.
Awesome class and prof, lectures are all recorded so attendance is not mandatory. Exams aren't as scary as people make them out to be (multi-choice, 40 mins). Best advice is to start studying early and really know all the details.
Everyone is being dramatic, this is a typical psych course. He is an amazing professor and he gives you SO MANY resources to succeed. The exams are not super hard but sometimes the questions are difficult. In lecture each slide has a symbol to let you know if it will be on the exam or not and he gives you a detailed textbook reading guide.
I had to take 102 otherwise i wouldn't have. lots writing on the slides and the questions on the tests were impossibly hard. Its like they think were all psyc people doing our masters degree and all the information should be on the back of our hand. It wasnt and therefore the question on the tests were impossible to answer. Good luck.
If you have to take 102 ok but if you dont pick another elective. useful icons on the slides to help study for a test but otherwise there's so much info on the slides and the questions on the tests are impossibly hard. its like he thinks were psyc master students and know that info like the back of our hand. unreasonably difficult. good luck
He's a good guy and a good prof who actually cares about his students, but I agree with many others that although the midterms were short (30 multiple choice and 40 minutes), they were weighed HEAVILY (25% each), making every error pretty much takes off 0.5 percent from your final grade. I made the mistake of taking this as an elective (RIP my GPA)
Very kind guy but tests are very difficult. We had two mid terms weighted heavily, and the final is cumulative. There are around 650 terms over the term, and it's extremely difficult to study or feel prepared (according to myself and several peers I've spoken to)! But again, very caring guy and I wish I enjoyed the class more.
Dr. Odic is a good professor; his lectures are recorded, lecture slides indicate what will be on the exams, clear textbook guides, and lots of resources to ensure success. However, exams are quite difficult due to weird questioning. This class is not a GPA booster, only take if you're into psyc.
he gives so many resources to help you succeed, and really cares about his students. if you did badly, skill issue. put in the time.
Don't take it unless you need to. The exams are ridiculously difficult and your gpa will suffer. I swear going into tests it dosent matter how much you study it's like a game of roulette for your grade. He's nice but the class is very difficult even if you go to all the lecs, doing all the readings, and study lots.
Nice prof, hated the exams. Exams were worded super poorly in my opinion. Dropped my GPA don't take as a grade booster.
Quizzes and exams were a bit weird at times, but overall Darko laid out PSYC102 in a very organized manner and provided helpful resources to help students succeed.
Fine for a intro to psyc course. Only thing is that some of the questions on exams and quizzes are a little tricky, and expectations to how to answer these questions often change. But I guess you can learn to answer them over time. Overall fair and clear prof.
Never even stuttered in lectures, amazing speaker. Testing is all multiple choice, it can get a bit tricky but he provides tons of resources to help. Clearly cares for his students, sends us psychology-backed tips to study and take care of our mental health. Your grade is directly equal to time spent on the course, I know any lost points are on me
easy to get a good mark in the class since he clearly states which slides will be on the test / what won't be. lectures are relatively interesting and didn't have to study too much. for me, it was infinitely better than psyc101. odic also drops questions after the exam if too many get it incorrect, also provides hella resources for everyone
