He's an absolute awesome teacher! I deffinitely recommend him. He is extremely helpful and truthfully cares for each of his students. The work is easy and you will learn a lot in this class. Trust me, take him.

Wow what a great teacher! I had him for english 1a and a. Always making funny jokes to keep the class awake. Is very clear with what he wants you to do. If you do your work you will pass. Darrel is a great teacher you will not be disappointed.

Mr. Thompson is very goofy and a lot of fun! He wants you to participate in class and that's like 10% of your grade so it makes a lot of difference. I first thought he was like in his early 30s; he looks way younger than his age. He's pretty hot.

Had this guy for both A and 1A, his pretty easy, my first transferable A was from him, got an A for both his classes, just listen, read the books and ask questions to how he likes his essays and do all his work especially journals and if you need help just ask, he'll gladly help you out.

Best class at ECC ever. I had to work hard for my grade but I felt that I actually learned how to be a better essay writer after taking this class. He also has a sensitivity for creative writing students.

Thompson is a great professor

Firstly, he is HOT! Secondly, easy class just as long as you do all the essay and journal assignments. Intresting in class activites and always lets the class out early very laid back and extremely funny! wow! I highly recommend this hot teacher!

overall, the class kept me busy all thorugh the semester with essays and journals. I'm sure all other english 1a classes are the same. the great thing about mr. thompson is that he makes everything very clear and he is very fair. also, although eng isn't my fave subject, he kept everything really interesting and let us out really early all the time

Very cute and easy. Just read the books, which are very easy to read. Do all essays and journals. First essay is one page, second is 2 and so on. No test ,well maybe a quiz about the book 5 questions only. He is very nice and very funny. EASY B

seems very cool at first but dont be fooled. very rude and has his favorites. if ur not one of them, you're screwed. kind of makes fun of his students making it difficult to want to participate. I ended up dropping his class. Although, he's a punk, he's pretty clear with the work and the book we used was pretty simple.

The class is easy because he is very clear about what he wants... He's helpful when u ask but can be rude if aked stupid Q's... There are very few reading qizzes and losts of easy essays. Don't take him if u can't make it to class and on time regularly.

I adore thompson! His class is pretty easy. He doesn't accept late work, and he's big on attendance and participation so if you can't be there take someone else! Other than that he is a smart ass, but nothing too extreme.He is very clear in what he wants, so as long as you can understand that you will do fine.

Darrell,is crystal clear on his work before every essay he will give you a sheet explaining what he wants out of that essay, he also goes to explaining in class the guidelines of that essay. He will give you essay after essay and he will allow it late, but will dock points. Journals can not be late! But he's okay. Don't mind the rude jokes.

I just finished his class for Spring, and all I have to say is that he is an instructor of the highest quality that El Camino can offer. Take him and do his work. He is funny and very clear. My first transferable A was from him. Read his book, be there and on time. Participate! That's a big one. Overall like I said, he is the best at ElCO =)

Thompson is awesome! He is sarcastic and very down to earth. You will always have fun in his class. He isn't extremely easy, but do what you're supposed to and partissipate and you will do fine. He is a great instructor, I recomend any class he teaches!

Carson High Alumni so WOOT WOOT! he's the most fun professor that a student can ask for. The class is so easy all you have to do is show up and do the work. It's harder to fail than to pass so yeah. =D attendance is a must!

excellent teacher. very amusing. explains thoroughly on assignments and gives you a lot of examples until everyone understands. checks homework often which is from a workbook mandatory for the class. overall, very easy and a very nice guy.

He is really helpful if you ask questions. The assignments are clear and easy. Just go to class and do your work and you'll pass. Its not a lot of work.

Thompson expects alot. He grades sternly. Very serious about the work - which isn't much, but, very crucial. Very helpful. Sets you up for assignments. Practically writes essays for you. If you cant pass this class, it's because you are a genuinely lazy and careless person. Anyone that has been in college 3 years should not have a hard time passing

Professor Thompson is a great teacher! He's funny, keeps the class entertained, is clear in his teaching, and is willing to help students if needed. I was never the best essay writer, but after taking this class I've improved a lot. I took his class in the summer and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. He is such an easy A, i hope to God you don't fail his class. He talks about all the assignments he gives you before they are do so he pretty much tells you what to wright on your essays! and tries to be funny with jokes which makes class go by faster:)

Best teacher ever! Five journals, three essays, one research essay, two quizzes, and one final. Three books to read, which were only 40-180 pages. Thompson kept the class entertained and does NOT have favorites. He tries to make everyone feel equally important in the class and loves it when you contribute.

He jokes around a lot and very sarcastic. He can also be kind of weird but funny.He is not hard you do like 5 essays and the journals are very easy...you'll have fun in his class. =]

He is one of the best teachers i've ever had! I think he grades pretty fairly but then again im pretty good at writing essays so if you suck at writing essays then make sure to not do them last minute. He's very funny and I had a great time in his class so you'll never be bored.He even wrote me 2 letters of recommendations so i won scholarships :D

I love him! Best teacher in elco! Recommend him 100%. He makes class so fun! He is very strict with late work; he deducts 10%. I don't think he grades paper hard; I received A's and B's. Best part is that he gives extra credit every time you go to the writing center, so if you take his class don't be a fool, go to the writing center!

Good teacher, but very tough on assignments. Expects students to go above and beyond in his class. Very funny and likes to crack jokes.

Really good professor and funny too. Strict on deadlines won't take late assignments. The quizes he gives really test if you read the material or not, not an easy class to slide through. Participation is a must and is a harsh essay grader but makes sense as to why. This class has really made me feel comfortable with having to write an essay.

He's a good teacher. Teaches you a lot. Make sure you come prepared and on time or he will kick you out. He's a real jerk but if you earn the grade he will give you the grade you deserve. Do not miss any assignments and go to his office hours. I didn't hate him too much.

Thompson is by far my favorite teacher! He may come off a little intimidating at first but if you show that you're interested in learning, he'll make it easier on you. He's great at trying to get the point across and he'll make jokes along the way. If you get butt hurt easily then I recommend you not take his class

Thompson is was a good teacher but grades very hard. He sets high expectations on his students and doesn't have time for people who dont do the readings or work. I worked hard for a B in his class but i ultimately became a better writer because of him. He assigns 3 novels to read and most essays have to be 4 pages long. The research essay was 6-8

Kind of a pain in the butt. Tough grader. Wants all essays to be extremely specific. All professors want the content written differently. The trick to a good grade is to find out his preferred style of writing (what he likes to see) and you're set. Also, participate in the socratics, it's worth a lot of points.

Thompson is a great instructor. You do have to put in some work to pass but its worth it. The articles that he assign also have some length to them. Great professor overral!! He's funny too.

He's a really good professor and his lectures are interesting. However, he is an EXTREMELY tough grader. Almost impossible to get an A in this class unless you are extremely talented at writing papers, especially since he takes points off if he does not like your style of writing. Socratics are extremely important in this class, so participate.

Took English 1A Honors with him. Great professor who gives helpful feedbacks on your papers when you visit his office hours 1 on 1. His class is actually not as hard as most of the people would think, as long as you figure out what he is looking for in an essay. He is actually a good mentor to talk to outside of class once you know him well.

Thompson is a good professor, but he's really strict and doesn't tolerate bad behavior. He is also a tough grader and expects you to know what is going to happen in class that day before we even begin and if you don't he might walk out of class(that happened to me). Best advice would be to come to class prepared and on time.

Professor Thompson is absolutely amazing. Tough guy, but he eases up after a few weeks. I learned more from him than any other English teacher I have had in the past. Thompson was the nicest, most incredible professor ever! I will never forget our last online class. He dismissed us early but a few other students and I held back just to talk with him. His class was hard but it's totally worth it to have this absolute gem for a teacher! You won't regret it!

Participating in this class (spring sem) is essentially a requirement if you want to get on his good side (sucks for those w/ anxiety, but he's very interactive and it vastly improved my participation skills) Class is easy, especially if you're proficient in English. He was cute and witty. I just wish he gave better feedback, especially on essays.

Mr. Thompson will teach you the right way to write an essay.He's willing to help any of his students but you have to show him that you care about your grade: participate in class, do the hmwk, take advantage of the EC and WC, READ THE MATERIAL. This class wasn't hard but be ready to put time and effort into it if you want to do well.

You'd get a new outlook on English with him as your professor and I mean that in a good way. I don't think he's a tough grader on the essays but he will be harsh if you don't follow the directions. Participation is pretty much a requirement and he appreciates it if you take part in discussions.

Great overall teacher. He is very good at explaining things and is very fun. He really connects with the students and makes the class fun in general. This maybe just me but his work though is a little more difficult for me at least and a little more strict on grading but that makes him a good teacher

Professor Thompson has a unique teaching style that takes some getting used to, but his passion shines through. The coursework is challenging, but engaging. Using unstuck study and the free textbook helped me stay on top of things.
