What a great research advisor! He was great at seeing new approaches/angles that I hadn't seen, and he really helped clarify the focus of my studies.
Dr. Butler is a brilliant man with a very intersting history in his work in psychology...making for some very interesting stories. Interesting course..some hard tests, but there are enough of them to bring your grade up if you happen to bomb one or two. He was also very helpful and receptive.
it was a hard class but he will help you if you ask!
knows his stuff, very interestings, good stories, funny. liked him a lot.
He was alright. Pretty cool, but a lot of quizzes and tests.
Very intelligent person and appears excited about teaching. A bit hard to follow in lecture at times. Really wants you to think for yourself not just recite a bunch offacts.
I never had a clas with him, but he was my advisor. He was always extremely helpful.
Dr. Butler is a really cool guy and is easy to relate too, although he's a genius. He tells some great stories that keep us awake. One negative is that his lectures can sometimes be hard to follow because he tends to ramble... who doesn't though? Something unrelated to psych but he has a really nice car and a cute golden retriever! haha... anyway, Butler is very enthusiastic about psychology and he seems to really love his job!
Dr. Butler has a great personality and a sense of humor that definitely makes stats. more interesting, and he was so helpful. There were 5 tests, but none of them had scheduled dates... the class decided when we were ready to take one and then he scheduled it. On 2 of the first 3 tests, 1/3 of the class got A's!
Butler sticks straight to the book. On the exams, there are a few questions directly from lecture but not that many, and if you have a large class you probably could get away with skipping. He is okay, but I wanted a psych. professor that would go beyond the book.
he was awesome.extremely willing to help you in any way he could&explain things more.really good about letting us decide when we were ready to take the tests, bc he reallydoes want students to do well.id say take his class for sure for stats if you can! he's awesome!
fun professor, good class
Very nice guy and interesting class. Sticks to the book a lot. Would definitely take for another class.
It's hard to pay attention in his class when all he does is stay off topic. It's easy to follow along with his lesson plan (when he has one) but his exams are pretty much from the book. If you have even the slightest idea about Psychology you'll pass his class but make sure you keep to his schedule because he doesn't tell you when the exams are.
Okay,He is tough, but he is fair. For nursing majors I HIGHLY recommend Nursing 314, online stats instead. SOOOOO much easier!
Honestly, he is very rude and condescending. He is very good at NOT answering a question directly. I was so confused by this class. A roommate of mine has the same class but different prof and she says it's a cakewalk. For NUR students... take NUR 314 online. You'll be much happier wih your grade and the stress level will go down significantly
PSYCH100: good teacher, interesting lectures and knows what he is talking about. The tests are a little tough, there are some things from the book that he doesn't talk about. No homework, just projects and experiements. Attend class, and you should be find. He's nice and fun.
Hardest professor I have ever had! I would NOT recommend him for people that have never taken psych before! I would not recommend him unless you are already familiar with the class! He is so hard!
He is very upbeat and enjoys what he teaches. I would strongly suggest going to class, if you don't you WILL miss out on very important info that can't be found in the book. Overall, I think it's a difficult class. He is a good professor, but I think he has difficulty teaching at a level for his students to comprehend.
you need to study for his test and pay attention in class and take notes. if you need help he is very helpful and willing to work with you if you notify him in advance about something.
Dr. Butler is a great professor. He's funny and his lectures are entertaining. However, his tests are quite tricky. You will need a book and you will also need to study hard for the tests...if you want an A.
Dr. Butler makes class interesting, although his tests are EXTREMELY hard. He does curve, but to get a good grade you have to work. He is incredibly intelligent, but has a hard time "dumbing" down the material for students who have never even heard of the topics. If you like a challenge, take this class with him.
I like the class and he had interesting stories. His online notes help alot.
this is my hardest class, attend class and READ
He is not helpful, he is hard. He does not seem to care. If you email him he is rude! His test are hard, his class is hard. He is not good at explaining things.
Very hard to work with. Was in the ER and that wasn't a legitimate reason for missing an exam-.
He has good stories but none that actually help you understand anything. Dont expect his notes to help... if you have him, good luck your going to need it.
Very free going guy that will joke around with students. Fun for that. But when it comes to teaching, it's hard. He purposely admits to making the tests difficult to pass. Also, don't plan on emailing him for he never answers your questions, no matter how simple they may be. Ask him in person so he can't ignore you...
Lectures did absolutely nothing for me...read the chapters (kind of skim and read vocab) and do the end of chapter tests. Questions are mostly from that. You have a quiz every other week and they are accumulative....hard class. Might as well be teaching yourself. He can be funny, but doesn't know how to teach.
I do not recommend this teacher at all. His lectures are the most boring things ever. His tests are impossible, thats why he curves them by atleast 10 percent. There are two projects worth a lot of points and that is the only reason I am doing good in there. If you really enjoy learning about Psychology then I would not take his course!
Overall the class was okay. He IS a hard professor and his quizzes(every other week) are nearly impossible but if you study hard, look for him to get help and go to class you should be okay. I was in the class the first year he started using Vizi so we only had one big project but overall if you're looking for a challenge, take this course!
The class was challenging. The mapping tests were difficult. He's condescending and rude, in person and email
This class is a lot of work. It is not necessarily hard, but it is sure time consuming. The review at the end of each chapter is an absolute must! If you do them the tests are not that bad. The project sucks, but it is graded fairly easy. The class is interesting and informative.
This was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken coming into college. Butler is one of the rudest professors I've ever had. He is super conceited and tells you that he's setting you up to fail. Few barely pass his weekly exams. They are extremely hard. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS if you don't want your GPA to suffer.
Can't teach well. Mean. Rude. Condescending. Arrogant. Rushes through notes, slides, powerpoints
Worst teacher EVER. He is incredibly rude and conceded. He definitely does not care about our performance in class. He is very lazy as well. Gave our TA hundreds of projects to grade & didn't look at them at all. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!!! Trust me!!
This professor is HORRIBLE. The class is extremely hard and he is not willing to help you outside of class. If you email him a question he just makes you feel stupid. Do not take this class if you don't want your GPA to suffer. He is extremely conceited and rude. There is an exam every 2 weeks and you need to attend every class and read to pass
This professor is awful. I would never recommend him. He doesn't teach what's on his tests and they are almost impossible to do good on. His class brought my GPA down and I'm very upset. Try your hardest NOT to get him.
Difficult...impossible quizzes & tests w/ his 'system'. Mean. Rude (especially in email). Doesn't teach effectively - examples are hard to follow
Mean. Rude. Confusing. Didn't use helpful or effective examples or notes. Condescending. Arrogant. Not helpful in or outside of class. Tests and quizzes are impossible (most people did poorly or failed them.)
Very unclear with assignments. Will NOT let you turn them in late. Tests are EXTREMELY hard whether you study for them or not. I WOULD NOT recommend this professor.
Doesn't respect students. Doesn't teach effectively
To the guy evaluating as Butler doesn't just hand you a grade - pull your head out of your ass & look PAST that NO he DOESN'T HAND you a grade - you have to work for it, but he still makes it difficult. Teaching methods are not helpful or effective for how he teaches, making his tests, 'mapping tests' impossible. He's rude & arrogant & not helpful
Dr. Butler doesn't teach at all. He uses his students to do his personal company's work & forces students to solve problems professionals can't without sufficient explanation or help. There are no quizes, tests, or textbooks only group projects all year that are completed without a clear grading policy We have a month left of class &only one grade
I would avoid him at all costs. most classes consist of students pulling questions semi related to the topic out of thin air and him trying to answer. tests are very hard with little help from lectures. worst class I have ever taken.
He's awful.
As a person, is very cool and laid back. Like the kinda guy you wanna have a beer with. But as a teacher... not so great. He kindly provided the textbook online because it was expensive. But his lecture notes are sometimes confusing and irrelevant to what the book said. Test are very hard and cover too much information, even though he curves them.
Don't need to attend the lectures to pass the class but his lectures are usually pretty interesting. The tests are tough but he curves them big time. He doesn't grade tough on the big project.
Doesn't teach well or respect students
Rude. Doesn't teach well
Mean. Class & tests are long & very difficult
Horrible. Avoid him
He's rude & doesn't explain concepts well
DO NOT TAKE! His tests are very advanced for a 100 level course. Most of the material in the book is never on the exams unless they are ridiculously specific questions. I do not recommend this professor. I worked my butt off to get an B+
The tests were very hard to figure out, but once i developed a system I got A's on the majority of the tests. The grade is solely based on tests, so it is a very difficult class to pass.
He doesn't care about students needs
Stats is a hard class. He makes it impossible. Avoid him
The way his tests are setup is ridiculous. 'Mapping' tests - like Venn diagrams but harder. This should NOT be a way of how to teach give exams. His teaching license should be revoked
Its a 100-level class, not a 400-level, but he makes it seem like the latter. Its ridiculous.
Awful at teaching. Unclear
Stats is hard. He makes it worse
'Mapping' tests are impossible. He doesn't care about disabled students needs
Its an intro psych course, but he makes it like a sr level course
His class is impossible
This class is too much for how he teaches. He's awful
This class w him is impossible. Avoid
He is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my life. Arrogant beyond belief - informed everyone that hardly any one ever gets A's on his exam, and when 8 students did he made everything so much harder. No one got above an 81 after that. He is not helpful when asked and this continued to higher PSYCH classes with him as well. Awful.
EXTREMELY rude & disrespectful to students. Needs to be fired
He is RUDE, MEAN & does NOT care about or accommodate disabled students properly AT ALL - I know, because I'm a DSD student & he would NOT let me see the password I needed to see to use on tests
He is the worst professor i've ever had. He has you doing so much and doesn't teach, he just tells you stories. His intro level course is like an upper level course. He expects you to teach yourself. He curves the exams 14% because everyone fails them. He thinks he is the best but everyone hates his class. DO NOT ENROLL IN HIS CLASSES.
He's seriously so hard, it is impossible to pass this class. If you have to take psys 100, do noottttt take this professor!
TERRIBLE prof! Makes tests TOO hard!
Stats is hard. He makes it impossible! Do NOT take classes w/ Butler!
This was by far the HARDEST class I have ever taken. Coming to college is a transition in itself but conquering this class is one of my greatest feats. If you are up for an INSANE amount of reading, CRAZY impossible tests no matter what you study, and lectures that don't match the thousands of pages you are reading, enjoy. Each test is different.
Didn't really have to attend class, the whole course was just working towards a paper and poster.
Butler's test are HARD! But if you try and give a lot of effort, you will do well in this class. He curves all test alot, but do not let this stop you from reading. READ chapter/modules THOROUGHLY! Questions for test come from book and notes. Group project is pretty easy and actually fun... grades it easy. Very cool prof. Funny and easy to talk to
The only times I enjoyed his lectures were when he talked about his experiences in the psych ward. Lectures are long. There were quizzes every other week. The notes I took from lectures never helped for the quizzes. You're better off reading the book than your own notes. The only reason I did well is because I worked my butt of on the final project
Tests are hella hard, but he curves. Make sure you read and pay attention and you'll be fine. Everyday is a lecture with an activity thrown in on occasion.
Tests are basically all of your grade besides one major project. He gives amazing curves because he knows the tests are hard. Very intelligent man, kind of intimidating but really cool. Study A LOT or perish tbh.
Darrell's tests are INSANE. All of our tests were curved by at least 10% and I still got bad grades on them. His lectures are BORING and his lecture notes he puts online are horrid and impossible to understand. I had to drop this class because it was so hard. DO NOT TAKE!!
Do yourself a favor and do not take his psys 100 class. He has a very disorganized way of teaching that can be quite confusing and he doesn't help much when you ask questions. The tests are hard for no reason and almost everyone in the class is failing. He doesn't offer extra credit and doesn't work with you in order to bring your grade up.
If you want to teach yourself take this class he teaches nothing you will learn nothing, he writes very hard test also. Lectures have nothing to do with test
This class, personally, wasn't my cup of tea. Porf. Butler didn't try to make lectures interesting, and it was difficult to know the information he wanted us to know for tests. On the bright side, his tests, which aren't easy at all, are curved, and you can be very creative with your project.
