reminds me of Red off of That 70's show, he will call you a **** if you're being a ****! great instructor, likes to engage in discussion. tests are a bit tricky, you just have to pay attention.

Good teacher. Writes/Marks Tests in a very unexpected fashion. There is no skipping class, or missing readings if you want to pass.

Tests are really hard but he covers all the material in his lectures, so note to wise...don't skip his class!! He is really funny and entertaining. Take his class, he's a GREAT guy!!!!

I'm failing his class, but the reason I stayed because he's a fair, supportive, and respectful instructor. Mr.Kean has good work ethics and is quite appealing in certain respects. If I put aside my emotion to re-evaluate him, I give him 344 instead of455

All his courses are very interesting. Take him, don't take David.

Funny teacher. His examples can go a bit off course but they are very entertaining and keeps the class interesting. His tests are very hard so be willing to study hard for it. Good teacher.

Darrell was an overall good teacher. Sometimes test questions were out of left field but most of the time were predictable. He has great stories and is a valuable resource if you are looking to be a cop. He's good to talk to in office hours. If he picks on you dont take it seriously.

Wow. Best teacher ever. I've taken almost all of his classes and I wish he taught more. Very helpful, down to earth, and real. He likes to pick on people, but it's all in good fun. His class is quite difficult, tests are hard, but it's worth it. Great sense of humor. Entertaining stories.

Good teacher, he likes to know his student on a more personal level, tries to learn all your names, he's very funny. Tests are hard, but I still find his quizzes to be way more harder than Midterms and Finals. Read the book, and pay attention in class, you should be fine ...

SO GOOD!!!!! There's things he taught as a "sidenote" that have been helpful in real life and in many unrelated classes!! His examples are SO HELPFUL!!(and funny). He's really nice, but may not seem so at first to you.(Give it time! you'll see.)He's EXTREMELY well organized, and EXTREMELY clear!!!!!

Kean's classes are no cake walk, but it's definitly worth your while. Probably one of the best teachers I've ever had. I actually looked forward to his classes! If you have the opportunity to take him PLEASE do. It's an experience. Thanks for being so great Kean!

Excellent teacher. You must write down everything since he could test on everything. He is very intelligent person with loads of practical experience which shows in his teaching through examples. Tests are hard but as long as you study alot and pay attention in class, his classes are very good!

This guy is amazing! I was a little weary of him at first but he's awesome! He doesn't pick on people, he just jokes with them and it makes the class a blast! tests are not easy but they are FAIR. Good guy to get help from in office hours. Knows all about Canadian law...i went to him with some personal problems and he went out of his way to help!

Hes an amaizing teacher! If you listen carefully you will see that every story he tells has a point to what he will br discussing in the class. As long as you study and read the chapters you should be fine! Hes an awsome teacher and a really good listener. Hes a teacher that wants us to learn and have fun at the same time.

Wow. Do all the readings and take good notes. All his exams are MC and a few written q's. An amazingly easy course, but then again I was the only one to do really well! A great teacher and tons of practical experience. Once a cop, but after a few classes becomes less intimidiating. Ignore the comment that he talks. Of course, its a class you moron.

Great lectures, very entertaining. Definitely not an easy class, but still worth taking! Really nice guy and funny as hell at times.

He's got a very good sense of humor and he keeps everyone's attention. I almost classified him as a stereotypical Cop at first, but he's very educated on different cultures which I found pretty impressive.

Excellent PROF!!! Very easy course!! always fun and exciting! As long as you go to class you'll have no problem at all, very clear and useful notes. Nothing tricky on the test and an easy marker too!!

i took him as part of the crim justice program. now that its over i miss his classes. they were usually entertaining and almost always challenging; but thats why you go to college.

Kean is an awesome prof. His courses always challenging but he makes the most dry courses very interesting. He can be a little intimidating at first, however once you get to know him, you will understand it is just his sense of humor. Note: if you are going to answer his questions in class, make sure you know the answer!

This guy is a great teacher and he used to be a police officer. He is humorous, explains things thoroughly, and class is a blast. Make sure to study off of the textbook and not his notes for the quizzes/tests as they are not enough. A great thing about his teaching is he relates explanations to real-life scenarios and his past experiences as a cop.

i love this guy!!he is the greatest pro i have ever meet. his class is extremely interesting,and he makes students love criminology.he 's really humorous,so prepare to laugh in class!his course is challenging,but students can get more than 80% if they always take good notes and study the textbook.the reading isn't much,just need lots of thinking.

I've taken 3 classes with him so far, and I would take more with him as a teacher if I can. He is one of the best teachers I've had ever in Langara, hand downs on that. Just attend class and take lot of notes, and he'll go over them if you want even. He is very easy to talk to, completely approachable. Crim 1125 is harder than other sections.

This guy is so damn hard! He talks the whole class and you have to write down pretty much everything he says and you gotta keep up or you will miss it!!! His exams are hard as hell! He can be funny but he picks on people too much! I'm glad I am done with him!!

Oh and I forgot to say that he says "****" alot and sometimes says that something has a lot of clout.

Word of advice. Pretty much everything he talks about in class is short answer questions on his test. All the mc comes from the textbook (i found). His test are hard unless you've read the text book and listen in class.

Great teacher overall. Only issue I have with him is the fact that he picks on students. I'm not sure if it's because he is trying to prep people for all the SH'T and abuse they presumably will be experiencing at Police School but it is uncalled for at Langara regardless.

I've had two classes with Kean and he's pretty funny. People complain that he picks on people, but what he's looking for is thorough answers. "I think" "Maybe" and "Kind of" don't cut it with this guy. He wants to know WHY and will get on your case until you explain yourself fully. If you back yourself up, he totally respects your answer. If not...

Love him, you just need to get to know his sense of humour. He does tend to pick on people, but he's just looking for an honest response (if you don't know, he'll move on). Attendance is mandatory for his classes, he heavily tests on his lecture notes, but supplement with the textbook. For short answers, just write down EVERYTHING you remember.

he's a nice guy, but his exams are definitely hard. u really, really need to take good notes in class AND take notes from the textbook, which is harder to understand than lecture notes, but its do-able. the good thing is he marks easier on assignments and the research proposal. hes ok, take him if u need the credit but know that u HAVE to work hard

Darrell is awesome - super helpful guy! If you show him you are putting the work in, he will help pave the way for you. He does not pick on people - honestly, if you feel picked on - 1) You are headed in the wrong employment direction and 2) Grow a back bone! Give it right back to him and study, you'll get an A

Loved him! Great teacher! Really engaged in what he does. He does ask questions to the class, and may pick on you but he won't make you feel stupid- he just wants an honest answer and for you to think critically. If you attend class and take good notes, you will do really well. Exams are sometimes tricky. Paper is easy to do, just follow his guide.

Kean is one tough prof but overall a nice guy.He does expect you to work hard but he explains everything clearly. He may look mean and act mean but end of the day hes a great guy.

He is tough in that he expects you to do the work, but he will help you if you ask.

Took Intro to CJS with him. Great prof. Ex Police Academy teacher. He may seem gruff and mean, but in reality, he's a teddy bear (sorry, darrell, if youre reading this!). always willing to help students and encourages critical thinking. doesn't want you to just sit there like moss on a rock and follow whatever is the popular opinion.

He's a really decent guy. Made lectures interesting by using his cop stories as examples for what we learn in class. He's not a hard marker if you actually study and are willing to work hard. He does ask questions to the class and he likes class discussion, especially when two students have opposing views. Keep up with readings and take good notes.

Darrell is strict and he said that right from the start. But apart from that,he's one of the Langara's finest. This man knows how to teach effectively. He even asks what's wrong with his teaching style so he can change it and teach better.I respect him more because of that. Just attend class and take as much notes as you can.

Tells hilarious stories that are also relevant to the material which helps with recollection on exams. Skipping lectures will come back to haunt you but his teaching style is not one bit dull. Class av. on exams was 70% so if you take a couple days to study you will score 80% easy. He's crystal clear on what you WILL and WILL NOT be tested on!!!!

Very knowledgeable. Quizzes are short answer and multiple choice. Covers a lot in class with Powerpoints but you have to take a lot of notes. Once he learns your name he often picks on you in class when he is looking for answers but still overall really nice.

Lectures are helpful and full of memorable examples, but you better show up because they're not posted anywhere. Tests are good if rambling long answers is your thing, and MC section is fair. Really explains material that he feels we will have a difficult time with. Likes participation, and picks on a quiet class, especially if he knows your name.

He is a great teacher, you wont get bored in class, but his 4 tests are super hard so you really have to study. No homework, class is not mandatory but if you dont go you miss things he says that are not in the book.

hes actually the funniest and sweetest old man!!!! i loooooove his class and stories help you learn sooo much. this class was so easy bc it was so interesting!! if you study the material ull do so well (hint, if you use examples when you explain something ull literally just get the mark). i would defff take a class with him again

My favourite prof. Ex-cop, knows his stuff. Uses memorable examples and loves if you use your own on exams. Quiztest so study efficiently. Email him about lates or absences, but you can't miss a test. Interactive classes. If he figures out your name you will be picked on. Tests are a fairly even balance of text and lecture. Don't skip.

He's a wonderful prof! Highly recommend! He elaborates on concepts using easy to remember examples. If you remember his examples, you will do great on his tests! Tests are not that hard, as long as you study from the textbook and lectures. Love how he uses the textbook headings in his lectures, so it's easy to study! Will pick on students to answer

Honestly, a pretty solid teacher, the lectures are pretty heavy, but what makes it memorable and easy for students are his stories as a former police officer. What's great is that he'll clearly point out which parts to study for and will use his stories as a more in-depth example. Tests and quizzes are easy.

I loved taking Darrell's class this semester, this course was mostly quiz/test-based but they are pretty easy if you read the textbook. his lectures are also pretty fun I like the way he teaches he's pretty funny if you try to get to know him. definitely hoping to have him as a prof again!

Darrel can come off as quite strict and rude at the beginning of your semester, but this isn't anything to worry about. As the class goes on, you find out he actually is a very nice and caring person. His lectures are clear and easy to follow, and he makes it very clear what is needed to be known for exams/quizzes. Overall, great professor.

Darrell Kean is a very good lecturer; I never found myself bored in class. The midterms and final were very easy, he tells you all the topics that you'll need to study. However, his quizzes are sooo difficult and worth a very large part of the grade.

I took this class fall of 2022 and was very worried based on the reviews of this class. Darrell was one of the best, if not the best, professors I have had in my academic career. He is compassionate towards students and clearly cares about the material. Your notes should not be about what is on the slide but rather what he says in class.

he seemed scary at first but he is such a sweet person. i loved his class. it was very rushed because it was once a week but he didnt put us under pressure at all. this class has no assignments or projects only 4 quizes worth 12.5% each a midterm and a final. the quizzes are tricky but the midterm and final are very easy. never miss a class!!!!!!

I always looked forward to Darrell's classes; his lectures were so entertaining and funny and I was always sad when the class ended.
