Umm..a little monotone and slow. Teaches us to be good oral speakers and yet he doesn't change his voice. A good man who loves and knows his english!

i had him for a first year poetry class he was really good, friendly, even let us have one page cheat sheet for the test :) wich is so nice :) i loved the class

He knows his stuff, but he's terribly boring. Sometimes he assigns assignments and then forgets about them.

He is a great teacher! Very clear and consise with everything he teaches. A nice guy, cares about his students, easy going and understanding. His class is kinda boring though... zzz but he doesn't seem to be that tough of a marker so if you study and go to class it's easy.

Is kind of boring, but he has a good sense of humor nevertheless. I liked him. Go to class and you'll be fine.

I really enjoyed his teaching and the in clas discussion. His teaching style really depends on who else is in the class. If your in a class with a bunch of students who don't get in on discussions. Then is could be a really dry semester.

Before taking Laird's class, I was repeatedly told he was an incredibly dry prof/hard marker/etc. Initially, yes, it was a VERY dry class. But after a few weeks it improved with class discussion. I actually really enjoyed it. True, the odd one I missed or fell asleep during, but overall, not as bad as I'd been led to expect. :) He's a nice guy.

he is a nice guy, has interesting discussions and is obviously smart... but his marking is ridiculously hard, i enjoy english but an A+ in the class would be almost unheard of i'm sure... he definitely has favorites, if you ask for feedback you might get a better mark on your next essay... good luck

Ridiculously hard marker! Extensive class discussion, usually went on for hours. Expect low marks on hours of work unless you go see him for feedback on essays. Overall very nice, smart, and interesting.

Great teacher! It can be a little boring at times, but the class is pretty easy. You don't really have to do the readings, but you will need the texts because you are tested on them, but again, the tests weren't hard. Definitely participate in class discussions he loves it!

The stories he chooses are usually interesting to read. There is a lot of (casual) class participation during every class. He's an "easy marker", especially with the essays, but you DO have to show him that you thoroughly understand the material; which means you actually have to READ. So, if you are illiterate, do not expect a great mark.

Smart guy, fair marker, expects participation in class. Stories are fairly interesting and essays are on resonable topics.

I love Daryll! He's adorable and has a turtle like appearance. Very helpful and clear on what he wants from you, which is perfect for a first year student. A little dry at times, but he loves getting students involved and also laughs at jokes.

he is a good instructor, very helpful. lots of reading. Lots of group discussions in class which were interesting. he really likes students who participate in class. very clear with what he expects on the exams and essays. you can always show him your essay and he will give you feedback which can help you in improving your grade :)

He's a great professor. You know what he wants. He's easy-going. I'll definitely want him for an instructor again.

This instructor is a very nice elderly man. Quiet, and soft spoken. His classes revolves around discussion! This was so helpful when it came to understanding the readings. He really likes those who participate and share their ideas. I found that he marked fairly, no paper gets an A without it being perfect. He's a good prof.

Darrel is really cool, and has a pretty good sense of humour. His class is pretty focused on group discussion, which I liked. He's a fairly tough marker, but as long as you put some effort in, and have the slightest affinity for writing, then you should do alright. His written feedback is semi-legible at best, so don't be shy to ask him to clarify.

Relatively easy, just show up and participate in the group discussions. He can ramble but use it to your advantage. I liked the group discussions because it meant minimal homework, but inconvenient no one shows. Hard marker, corrections are hard to read, fix a few things for the next essay your grade will jump up by a grade/grade and a half

He's a tough marker but still very fair. Some of his lectures can be a little boring and stiff. He's very by the book but this is actually nice sometimes because assignments and grading is clear. Don't take his classes if you don't like class discussion or public speaking. I do so I found it very fun!

I enjoyed this class as it made me think about literature in a new way. Most of the class time is used to interpret stories in groups so be prepared for that. In the beginning, we learned in 1 lesson how to formulate a paper and that was it. If you have trouble, I suggest the writing center or help from teacher. Overall good experience. 5 papers!

His lectures are quite dry but the man himself is amicable and struck me with his passion for the material, somewhat dry though it may seem.
