Has interesting lectures but isn't clear as to what will be on tests. Seems approachable while lecturing but gets easily defensive if asked a question pertaining to the lecture. He is a perfectionist and hard to talk to.
I agree with last person compleatly. Hes teaches really wierd. Very unorganized. Tests are short, worth alot, and enless you memorized alot of VERY DIFFERENT facts, you will only get at few.
He grades on a curve. unorganized. interesting lectures. always wears looney tunes t-shirts
Has lots of knowledge on the subjects he teaches. Tests are a bit hard because there's a lot to know and bascially it's everything on the chapter but I loved his class and like his teaching style. He's a great professor and would recommend his class.
Great teacher. Very interesting but his tests are way too hard.
His lectures were interesting. The tests are easy as long as you study the notes and read the chapters. There was a lot of reading for this course, and there was a research paper. Overall, the class wasn't difficult or demanding. I would recommend him.
good lectures, but hard tests
I had this teacher for 302,312,and i think 365 and I would say he is my favorite teacher. He keeps your interest and gives you a lot of info.
Great professor, lectures are very interesting. If you take good notes, you'll do great on tests. Mainly based on lecture. Do 5 parenting papers, 1 dropped. Final not cumulative. Graded on curve. I would recommend him to anyone. One of my favorite professors!
His tests are straight from the lectures with a couple of questions from the book. Sometimes his lectures can be sort of boring. He has one paper and he does not take attendance, but if you don't come to class you will not do well on the tests, a lot of the examples on the test come from the lec.
His class very interesting. His test is strictly from his lecture. With a couple of question from the book. Only thing you have to do is pay attention and takes notes, and you will be ok. He's also a funny guy and nice. And you will learn about parenting skills. Highly recommend him.
I enjoyed this teacher a lot! I sat in his lecture for Experimental Psych when he would have fun fridays..just an example on how he would relate subject matter to everyday life. Although he was goofy, he was really down to earth, warm and easy to talk to. I am signed up for 302 because he's great
I enjoyed this teacher a lot! I sat in his lecture for Experimental Psych when he would have fun fridays..just an example on how he would relate subject matter to everyday life. Although he was goofy, he was really down to earth, warm and easy to talk to. I am signed up for 302 because he's great
He's a great professor! He makes the depressing things in life interesting. His grading is fair and i would recommend this class to all including non psy majors.
i love his shirts. he is a splendid individual
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD! Funny, smart, interesting, challenging. Don't miss class, take good notes and use book as a supplement. That should get you an A. Grading based on a curve.
If you show up to all the classes and take good notes you will do good in the class. I never read the book and studied maybe one hour for each test and got a B and B+ in his classes. There are writing assingments, however he is an easy grader. He knows a lot and tries to make it fun and interesting. Do recommend.
This prof is my absolute favorite. I always look forward to coming to class. He melds humor with lecture material in such a way, that taking and studying for his tests is fairly simple due to the fact that you remember his stories that relate back to the material. I would totally recommend him and only wish that he taught more than 3 courses.
interesting individual makes for an interesting class. gives very detailed notes (all you need for the tests). one warning though: his finals are cumulative. he grades on a curve so you're grades depend on the other people in your class does.
Very good prof. You learn a lot about parenting. Very interesting class. You need mostly notes for the exams, although he puts in 1 or 2 questions from the book for those who read it. Not a difficult class, can get an A or B if u put effort into it.
I really enjoyed this teacher. He tests on lectures and surprises you with questions from book, so read and be careful.I would reccommend to anyone. Only gripe is that he is not easy to talk to, not very personable or ready to help.
He is kinda weird looking and has a strange voice, but after getting over that he is an awesome teacher! You can tell that he is very passionate about his subject, and it draws the class in. His tests are relatively hard, but at least you will learn something from him! But he is very entertaining, and does not put anyone to sleep.
Very funny professor, knows his material very well. Give a lot of notes through power point presentations. Exams are basically everything he lectures. Very helpful and really nice. Highly recommended
There's alot of information. He lectures alot and his test are off the lecture. I never read the book just used the lecture notes and did pretty well on the test.Interesting class
by far, the best teacher i've taken at csun. recommend his classes to anybody. I learned a lot in his class.
Easy class but you have to go to class everyday because he basis his test on the notes. Don't bother buying the book. Their is a lot of notes but easy. 4 paper, 2 exams and the last exam is cumulative which is a challenge because he has a lot of notes. Recommend this Professor he is not hard and grades on a curve.
Knows his stuff very well. Absolutely knowledgeable.
Don't waste your money to take his class. His exams are subjective. He wont do anything to help you. His notes are all outdated. He'll use notes that he had taught in the early 90's. He is also very opiniated about the governor of CA and hates the major. He'll focus more on his kids than teaching.
EXTREMELLY KNOWLEDGABLE AND AND VERY PASSIONATE. HIS POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS ARE VERY WELL ORGANIZED. IF YOU COME TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES FROM THE POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS HE GIVES, YOU CAN GET A B+. I HAD HIM FOR THREE CLASSES, AND LOVED HIM EVERYTIME. GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR.
Very very smart man. His lectures are clear, to the point, and organized on powerpoint. No need WHATSOEVER to buy the book. His exams are straight forward.. he tries to intimidate you, but he's hilarious. Highly highly recommended.
great professor! very enthusiastic and humorous! i actually looked forward to attending class. there's really no need for the textbook ...as long as you take notes and pay attention in class every day, you'll do great! he's an easy grader! i would definitely take another one of his classes.
I loved this class and I loved this guy. The most organized notes I've ever seen. Just study the note and do the papers and you'll get an easy A.
You don't even need the book. All his tests are straight from his notes. If you miss class you won't do well. Pretty organized teacher. Funny and loves to talk about his kids. Make sure to do all the papers which are easy but he actually READS them and grades you so you can't B.S. on them. There's 4 papers that are 2-3 pages long.
Super smart man,, knows so much psych info. Really loved this class! Tests are lecture based, just go to class and pay attention. No homework, no papers :)
Great teacher! Very knowledgable! Tests are straight from powerpoint, no need to read text. Must come to class and take notes but only 3 multiple choice tests and no writing, not bad! Pay attention and the class will be easy!
Professor uses a wonderful curve in which we all benefit from! No need to read the book he gives power point presentations with everything you need to know. Easy class take it with him I recommend it!
Great Professor!! Grades on a curve which really helps.
He is one of the most intelligent professors I've had at CSUN. His lectures are like listening to your grandpa tell you a story. You are immersed in the lecture because it's so interesting and there are so many levels to them. Great professor!!
Richards is a great teacher! I am going to try to take another class with him again. Reading isnt necessary, however you need to go to class to keep up with his powerpoint notes. Those are all you need for an A! He doesnt take attendance. I got a very easy A! He has little writing assignments, but he grades easy. Tests are easy!!!
He is a great professor, who knows his stuff and makes class very interesting. But, it is not such an easy class as mentioned, you really need to study for the tests.
Excellent professor. Very clear, helpful, and professional. Best professor I've had in this school so far.
Easy class, easy A, tests a bit hard but manageable, take him just for fun or for credit desn't matter-its worth it
this guy is awesome, probably an awesome father too... but anyways 1 of csun's best just copy all the notes, dont really have to use the book AND do his stupid 1 page papers. Oh and look out for him at school reading his book, once i spotted him reading a book while taking a leak in the bathroom lol.
Easy to follow, gives easy and interesting examples.
Great teacher! His lectures are put together well and easy to understand. Is very nice and will add anyone:)
HE MAKES CLASS INTERESTING BY PROVIDING REAL LIFE EXAMPLES. . . TAKE NOTES. . . TESTS ARE STRAIGHT FORWARD. . . HE ANSWERS QUESTIONS. . . OVERALL HE IS A GOOD PROF.
Very intelligent and extremely helpful professor. Tests are off the slides he presents in class. If you attend class you will do well.
He teaches his material in a clear and interesting fashion. He is so intelligent though, it seems his patience level for the lay person is a bit challenged. A great class never the less, although you only have three grades, so doing well on the tests and taking notes is a must.
He is awesome! What I have learned from his classes (psy 302 and 312) have helped me greatly in psy. 313. I highly recommend him.
we had 2 midterms and a final. no papers and no homework. the first 2 tests(easy) were straight from his lectures/powerpoints. the final was really hard because it was like 40% book material and we hadn't really used the book all year. technically we should have been reading along in the book all year but not all of us did :D.. all tests are curved
Awesome prof. Made me excited about coming to class at 9am. Prof. Richards is smart, witty, and loves teaching. Tests are multiple choice and there are 3 short essays. Take good notes and don't miss the lectures.
Great professor,Interesting lectures. Highly recommend his class.
IS and always will be my favorite teacher!
After just looking at my grade, I must say that he grades fair. The curve that he used was very reasonable. The homework was somewhat easy, but the tests were hard. I would tell people to take this professor for classes he teaches.
Easily one of the best professors I've had at Northridge. His lectures are crystal clear and informative. He gives a generous curve so a raw score of 75% morphs into an A. Very personable and easy going. Definitely thumbs up. Richards is the man.
This professor was kinda nerdy, but knew the subject material well. You can tell he is very enthusiastic about the subject, and he also tries to make it as interesting as possible. He does have 3 writing assignments which are easy, and he also grades easily as well. Exams weren't bad, and the final is cumulative but is fairly easy as well.
It's rare that a class where you only sit and listen to the professor is this enjoyable. I never ever got bored listening to him. Need to take notes in class cuz the 2 exams and final are based on that, textbook alone didn't work. That's why I got a C..had the 8am class n I have trouble waking up usually. Would have gotten an A if I had the notes.
His lectures are very interesting and you need to take notes or you wont pass his quizzes or final. He is not helpfull though, he tends to make you feel stupid when you ask a question, like saying "DUH!" you should know this. He can be a tad rude. Good luck with his 8oclock class it is hard to stay up some days...
Could not stand his style and dropped the class after two sessions. He acts superior and speaks down to students. He also has very strong opinions, which he makes perfectly clear and he completely fails when it comes to presenting a balanced view. I have honestly never disliked a teacher's style so much.
Is this teacher DARREL RICHARDS ? I can't find Darrel Richards on this site, but i found DEAN RICHARDS so i was wondering if this is the same person...Help please
Very good teacher. only that he goes over the same slide for like a hour. but loved his classes.
Well, I must say he is a great teacher but I hate, hate his tests which are extremely hard and the way he words his tests confuse the heck out of you. Basically knew everything but still ended up with a C cause of his hard tests. Got 25/40 for each and thank god for his curving or else more then half the class would fail. Still upset!
He's a very cool down to earth teacher and interesting. You NEED to take notes and read the book. Two M/C quizzes & the final is also M/C. 1 research paper. Easy to understand and has a sense of humor. Very intelligent teacher! You need to take him. I never read the book and I got a B in the class. Very interesting subject. Take him! I kept the bk.
Didn't read a book, got a B without studying, just attending classes. He is really interesting, and his examples are really good. He curves his tests big time.
Tests are very hard, you really need to study his notes and read the book for the tests. Final covers the whole class, very hard.
This class is sooooooooooo easy. Take him, don't even think about it. There are three very easy papers, and 3 tests. Highly recommend him for this class.
He gets pretty annoying at times...three easy papers...and three tests...tests are not hard if you just memorize 30 pages of notes
got an A. didn't go to class didn't take notes, went over book briefly. but I am about to graduate and my specialty is educational and developmental psyc. not showing off, just he might be more of a challenge for a freshmen. take him its easy!
Simply put... one of the best professors at CSUN. Knowledgeable & conveys it w/an effective teaching style, making it so interesting that 10 min into the class you stop resenting it's a Saturday morning. If you really want to learn AND enjoy it, take him. Make sure to pay attention to lectures, take notes and read the book, and you'll do just fine.
Hard tests. He grades on a curve, with top 10% A, next 15% B, and middle 50% a C. One of the few C's I have ever gotten, (B+ student). Take it with someone easier.
Very knowledgeable on the subject and seems to enjoy teaching. Never takes attendance. Got an A but I was memorizing pgs & pgs of notes for every test. Do NOT miss class or you'll miss 10-15 pgs of notes per class. Can get by without reading the chapters.
if you want to know the facts and no opinions its this, his notes are everything you need to get an A in the class. If you are a good note taker this is the class for you, yes the book is needed because he asks 2 or 3 questions from it on the test and each is worth alot of points.
He is very straight forward. Lectures from a powerpoint and makes its interesting. He talks about funny examples that make it easier to remember the content. There is a lot of information to know for the tests, but it's fine if you study.
Pretty good teacher, VERY clear lectures, watered down somewhat (and likes the subjects students find dull, unfortunately). Take good notes and the tests aren't super rough. However he has only 3 tests instead of 4 which is intimidating. Not an easy A, but if you're a good studier you'll be fine. Lecture heavy, I recommend him.
Brilliant professor. Study the lecture notes well. I also got questions right because I read the book. Tests are not really hard if you prepared well enough, need to rehearse the material a lot (esp. for specific q's). Go to class take down notes for future studying, you cannot remember the material just by the memory from being in class.
Dr. Darell is great. You will always leave the class with new information and interesting facts. If you ask a question he will always have an answer for you. This is the second class I've taken with him and I loved it. His exams are not easy, but you just have to read your notes and read the chapters.
Extremely clear, helpful and knowledgeable about his subject. Super dorky, but funny and great lecturer. Tests are hard, but show up, take notes and read the book and you'll be fine! Highly recommended!!! =)
DO NOT TAKE. I'm taking a heavy workload of hard classes in my last semester before graduation, so I chose this ELECTIVE course because i figured it would be a somewhat easy A. WRONG. This was my hardest class. bombards you with complicated notes, gives RIDICULOUSLY hard tests, plus hes weird. and hes very rude in his office hours. STAY AWAY
Hes really not a good teacher. Gives powerpoint slides all of class and expects you to suck up all the information, then regurgitate it on his extremely hard and specific tests. Not worth anyone's time. Find another course to take.
He's a good professor. He can be rude, but his teaching skills are great. I loved coming to this class. You could either study his notes or read the book. Either one works, but the book is difficult to understand. He never missess a day of class and has great examples for you to remember for the test.
He is a fantastic teacher, extremely knowledgeable about the material and very passionate about it as well. You will learn so much, tests are not that hard (they are weighted based on how others do) so its pretty easy if you read and study. definately take him!
Makes the subject super boring. Grades based on curve, does not have a study guide but should, final is cumulative. I am an A/B student but got a C in his class.
Richards keeps you stimulated for the entire class time. NEVER WANTED to miss class, hes great at what he teaches and I don't think many are more knowledge then him on the topic. Only problem is you can never get personal with him in order to ask more ques into the topic. NOT AN EASY CLASS BUT YOU WILL LEARN A LOT AND LOVE IT!!!!
Note: I also had him for 312. Dr. Richards is perhaps one of the best professors CSUN has to offer. Not only does he explain the material with clarity but he also ties it in with real life examples. He will increase your critical thinking skills by a longshot. It's also worth noting he has a cynical/dry sense of humor, and is LGBT friendly.
Very cool professor. Very passionate about the subject. Class was tough but if you really study and read, you'll do fine. I passed the class with a C thanks to his very generous curve. You'll learn a lot in his class.
He is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's been teaching a long time and really knows how to do it. His lectures are clear and to the point. He explains all the concepts really well. He doesn't just put up slides and think he's teaching. Great lectures! He knows a lot. Any question you have, he will be able to answer easily. Awesome!
Great teacher!Everything is so clear to understand!I never opened my book and got an A!I can tell you right now (a month after school's been out) everything I've learned...if you like to learn, take this class. I know Gardner has more ratings, but I would go with this guy. 2 midterms 1 cumulative final never studiedthe 1st half of the semester 4fnl
Awesome Professor, recommend to all who can get him. Makes the material interesting and understandable.
Hands down, the most brilliant professor I've ever had. Quite difficult, as his tests require you to know EVERYTHING from his lectures and corresponding chapters. No study guides for this reason. He is extremely passionate about psychology. Eccentric and quirky. There wasn't a single question asked that he couldn't answer, including ones that didnt even pertain to the class. Highly recommended if you want to challenge yourself and make the most of your tuition money.
I took Prof. Richards intro class at Moorpark college. He gave four tests and a final exam, and allowed dropping one of the tests. Extra credit was not offered. The tests were pretty difficult, and graded on a curve, but if you take notes and study the slides you should do well. Very knowledgeable and easy to understand.
I had Dr. Richards for Psy 369 and then Psy 367. He's extremely knowledgable and wants his students to learn the material. His class isn't an easy A, but you will do well if you come to class and take great notes. He doesn't supply study guides for exams as he wants you to know EVERYTHING. He can be a little arrogant at times, but is a great prof.
He was an ok professor , he cracks a lot of jokes and helps time fly by a little faster. Curves tests! I got two f's and one d and ended up with a c in the class. Easy grader . Ok tests, everything is off lecture slides
Dr Richards is one of the best professores I ever had. I loved listening to his lectures. He is one of the gifted professores, who know how to talk to your unconscious mind that you will remember the stuff forever. I am a senior international student and if it wouldn't be my last semester I would take more classes with him. He is the best!
Best class I have taken at CSUN so far.
He may not be the most approachable professor since he can have an attitude, but he is extremely knowledgable and conveys the information in a clear manner. This was a hybrid class, weekly online assignments and 2 midterms and the final. The final is cumulative and worth about 40% of your grade. Questions come straight from his lectures.
He is kind of rude, just honest I suppose. He made me afraid to ask questions. He curves final grades on a curve. The final was 80 questions cumulative. Interesting subject though.
Has a really hot temper, is rude, does not look you in the eye when speaking with you, irrational, sarcastic, self-obsessed and god awful. The content is great but his attitude and personality is very rude and unfriendly.
Weekly quizzes and weekly readings. Two midterms and an accumulative final. Some chapters are difficult and some chapters are easy. Just read before you take tests. The only thing I don't like about this class is the grading curve. The top 10% performing class will get an A. So... if your looking for an easy A... this not the class, due to curve.
this guy is one of the best teachers ive ever had. he makes the class really fun and interesting. there are three tests and one final along with no homework. just take notes and youll get an easy B.
He is great. I had him for PSY 313 and PSY 301. I enjoyed both of his classes. I also like the fact that he loves what he does—he loves to teach. Unfortunately, he takes roll and he uses every last minute of class time (and sometimes goes over), but his lectures are very interesting and informative. You won’t be bored. I’d recommend him.
He's not the nicest guy on the planet but the class was really easy. Show up and listen to him lecture and you understand. He's go through the material pretty quickly so you have to be on top of it. I'd recommend him but he does have a hot temper and is a bit unfriendly at times.
I would def consider this to be one of my harder classes for the semester. He has a quiz for each chapter and even with studying I was never able to score above an 80% on each. Weekly quizzes, two papers, two tests and a cumulative final. Study hard b/c his tests and quizzes consist of tricky(er) questions. Good professor, but be sure to study.
I had him for the 1 unit class. His tests for a 1 unit class were somewhat tricky. I always found myself 2nd guessing my answers. I did well on all his tests but you HAVE to study
Prof. Richards' class is pretty good. As a person, Dr. Richards can be a bit rude to his students and have an impolite tone to his voice when he speaks. But as a professor, he is really knowledgeable about what he teaches. He gives two difficult tests and a final that are curved; he lectures, and that's it. Choose this class wisely, if you can.
honestly Idk how I got an A in the class. I think it has to do w/ the massive curve in the end. My advice if you need to take this class is focus more on the slides and less on the book.
This professor made this class extremely interesting. It was a 3 hour class and I never got bored because of how well he presented the material. He made it easy to understand by using examples that we could relate to. The exams were difficult but if you pay attention in class and go over the power points you'll pass. HILGHY RECOMMENDED!
Can't stand him as a person, but his class was clear/informative. I was supposed to receive an A- according to his syllabus' curve, but was shocked when I saw that I got a B+ instead. Should have talked to him, but I just wanted to avoid him instead. The class is interesting, though, and I learned a lot. Easy to understand, not too much work.
Very intelligent, witty, and funny. Attendance is not mandatory, but you'll have no one to blame but yourself for missing notes which are not uploaded online. He is the most intelligent professor I've had, and while many people think he is mean, he isn't. He is a funny guy and I really enjoyed his lectures.
He is a funny Proffesor, his lectures are what determine the content that will be provided on the test. You must go to class everyday to be able to do good on the 3 exams. He doesn't give homework but you do have to take part in studies to earn credit for the class.
His dry sense of humor is not for everyone. I found him funny at times, but in general, he seemed pretty pissed and could be rude to students who didn't follow directions. Study lecture notes VERY well for exams. They are TRICKY!!! Overall, I thought he was informative; however, his lecture slides needed to updated with some things.
All tests are based on PowerPoints. Even though he never checks attendance, I suggest you attend class and take notes, because he basically outlines the book for you. I did not use the book at all. No homework assignments. Just do the experiment credit requirements. He talks about his life and makes the class interesting.
There's no hw. You don't need the book. All tests are based on the PowerPoint lectures, so attend class and take good notes. Tests are easy if you listen to the lecturesstudy beforehand. He doesn't take attendance. He makes class interesting and fun.
lectures are really long and boring. he is very monotone. So much reading. His ability to teach is not well he just sort of talks.
Very interesting. He is somewhat boring but he's also really intelligent and relates the material to examples that make it easier to understand. DON'T SKIP CLASS. Friend's notes are too difficult to understand if you weren't in class listening to the way he explained it. STUDY at least a week in advance for exams, they're hard. GO TO PSYCH STUDIES!
He taught psy 301 which is basically an intro class. He knows what he is talking about though. Show up and take notes and you should be good since its a passno pass class.
He is very intelligent and knowledgeable, but there were no other basis of your grade except for three exams: 25% Exam 1, 25% Exam 2, (These two are 40 items), and Finals, 50% which is comprehensive and 80 items long. He is not the terminology type of guy, so you have to work to understand the concepts, theories, models, etc.
He's super intelligent, funny and engaging during his lectures. Would definitely take him again regardless of the grade I'm gonna get this semester. Closely follows the book, I haven't seen him take attendance once and he won't drop you during the first week if you don't show up. Cool, cynical, rational and witty. Explains everything well.
There's only three tests. 2 midterms and a cumulative final. His lectures closely follow the book which help when studying. No study guide. He encourages questions and answers honestly and explains things pretty thoroughly. I've taken him before and I'd take him again, just be prepared to take a lot of notes.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Lectures are so interesting, explains things so well and he makes you eager to learn more. You have to come to class because he doesn't post his lectures online. DO NOT rely on the book because his tests are based on his lectures and the chapters are too long to study. Study the lectures and you'll do well!
Very easy exams
I bought the textbook, didn't read a single word in it, but attended every single class and passed with a B! Everything on the test he covers in the lectures. Important: you have to participate in he research studies... PLS DO IT. DONT LEAVE TO LAST MINUTE. YOULL HAVE TO MAKE UP LATER. Anyways, learned a lot! I'm majoring in psych bc of him!
The class was once a week so it was 2 and a half hours but he made it very interesting and he tells stories that go with the concepts he is talking about so you can easily remember it later. Completing the experiments and two midterms and a final determined the grade for this class and he did not assign any homework. Would definitely take again
Hard to tell what grade you will get for the end of the semester. I failed the first test, got an A on the 2nd, and final not sure. I ended up with a B in the class and i finished all my studies (do them early!). The final was very hard as it goes very into detail with what the questions are asking. Study very hard, and take the time out for tests.
This class is easy to pass, the grades were curved as well. His lectures aren't boring its just that the class is long since its once a week. He's friendly too, he answers any question you have and answers them accurately. He also gives a lot examples so you can remember the topics. His example stories are on the tests too. I passed with a B.
great professor if you are good with taking notes and memorizing! make sure you pay attention during class because sometimes he explains stuff and its not in the powerpoint but it will be there on the test.. 3 tests all multiple choice. study your notes well because he asks silly questions on the tests
He's a great guy. He has a little bit of an ego. Some of the students are intimidated when approaching him, cause he's more than likely to say something smartalicy anyways, his class should be easy as long as you DON'T MISS CLASS and take notes, preferable on your laptop. I didn't put in much effort and got a C.
Took applied cognitive with Richards online. It wasn't that difficult, but I felt like the questions on the test were tricky and some I could not find anywhere. I didn't read the book, just used his video lectures which were very helpful. He's a bit of a tough grader because he grades on a curve. Overall, I would recommend for an online course.
This professor is an interesting man. One of the most brilliant professors I've had. With that being said, he expects a lot out of his student. Do not skip class, if you do, go to his office hours and get the lecture you missed because he does not post the powerpoints online. Tests are extremely tricky but at least he curves them.
I am taking this professor for an online class. His online videos are annoying and boring. He does not explain topic well, and quizzes are based on the minimalist of facts on the book. I review his videos, read the book, and the quiz make no sense compared to his lectures and book.
His lectures are interesting, and he tells a lot of stories that make the material easy to understand and remember. If you pay attention in class and take notes, the tests are pretty easy, and they were all multiple choice. I would definitely take his class again!
I cannot believe how much I learned about Psychology after one intro course! The lectures are really interesting and the quizzes are taken straight from the PowerPoints, so you don't need the book at all. He is clearly an intelligent and unbiased professor that knows his subject. Ask him ANY question about psych and he will be able to answer it.
I rented the textbook and I never opened it once. His lectures are dry but the topics are usually interesting and made me want to learn more. He has a weird sense of humor and is definitely not approachable but I never had to talk to him personally once so it worked out for me. He's also really knowledgable and qualified in psychology.
His lectures are heavy, but he makes them really interesting. You'll be constantly laughing at his humor. Make sure to always attend class
This professor is the best. He tests you based on the notes you have taken. His lectures are amazing and makes them very fun to listen to. If I could, I would take this class again! Don't skip class though, notes are very important. He sometimes goes fast too so get your phone ready with pictures!!!
It wasn't a bad class, just had to work to do well. I missed about 3 or four quizzes by accident didn't get higher than a 65 on the midterm or final but still passed the class with a solid C+. Huge curve, boring video lectures, quizzes from book and lecture so read both.
First of all, his tests grades were weighted, so something like a 20/40 on an exam got me a C on the exam. Tests straight from lecture power point notes, but notes are not on moodle. Must show up for the notes/get it from someone that was there. Lectures were boring but he tries to make it somewhat fun.
Took his 369 class online, I didn't find it to be difficult at all. Quizzes every week, 2 short papers, 2 midterms and 1 final. I didn't need the book for his class. Just read his PDF text slides and take good notes on it. When taking his quizzes and exams, READ THE QUESTION THOROUGHLY and read his PDF notes THOROUGHLY. Easy class overall
He has amazing lectures, but they are super heavy and he goes super quick so I recommend having a phone out to take a picture of the lectures and type them. 25 short answer questions for exams, and 50 short answer questions for final. He is a psychology nerd and does not stop talking EVER. He is sarcastic in a mean way, which he thinks is funny.
Great Professor. Two 40 question exams with an 80 question final. He bases your grade on a bell curve, depending on how other students do in the class. He comes off as intimidating. Take notes of all the slides and you will pass. Tests are all from powerpoints. He doesn't post the powerpoints. You have to go to class or you won't do well on exams.
His online class seems extremely overwhelming at first, but he's really trying to make it easier on you. You don't need the textbook, just read his PDF slides thoroughly and take good notes and you'll do well on his quizzes and exams. His questions are always tricky, just read carefully and between the lines, don't rush through the questions.
His online class was not that bad. It's well organized and easy to follow. Quizzes every week, 2 midterms and a final, and 2 short papers. No textbook necessary just read his PDF slides thoroughly even if they seem long and dreadful. All the answers are in there. His class is based on a curve.
This class is very interesting, but oh my god the lectures are heavy! He does not post any of the lectures online, so if you don't go, good luck! Also be prepared to take pictures of some slides because he goes through them very fast. The good and nice thing about him is that he curves all the test.
Fairly easy class. Weekly quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 cumulative final, and 2 easy papers. Questions are from his online lecture, take good notes and you will be fine. The wording on his exams can be awkwardly phrased, so read everything carefully. The class can be overwhelming at first, but after a week you will get the hang of it!
He always tried to make lectures enjoyable even though they were long. Just make sure to study your notes and use your book! His tests aren't super hard but if you studied well, you will pass! He is truly an amazing professor who is super passionate about what he teaches & as a psych major he truly inspired me to continue in my field!
Let me just put it this way, if you miss one day youll fail the test unless you find a friend with the notes because he doesnt post them online. When you do take the test, he is a super tough grader and will mark you down for stupid little things. He grades on a curve, but its basically like you have to compete for good grades in this class. Pass.
The tests are all lecture based. Literally show up, take notes and you will be just fine. He curves each test, and then he curves the entire grade.... which is hilarious. Not going to lie, the material is hella boring but his commentary is enjoyable. He doesnt post notes and doesnt use canvas.
Class requires a lot of work, but it's not difficult. You have weekly quizzes (10 Q's each). All of his notes are posted and each PowerPoint contains videos. Couldn't stand watching the videos, so I printed the notes & just went through them carefully before each exam. 3 tests (none are cumulative), quizzes, & 2 short papers. Overall, good class.
just will make you fail
quizzes for each chapter, 10 questions. 3 exams, 30 questions. 2-3 papers which were not difficult and he is a quick grader. You know where you're at in the class. The class was not my favorite but he made it manageable.
Just start off strong you need every point possible. I started off with an A in the class and then because of the curve got a. B+. His quizzes first come off hard, but they really aren't. His exams were easy. Read his notes and watch his videos! Everything from exams and quizzes are on there.
The whole class is graded on a curve. If you get a B but the whole class does worse, you get an A. Every point counts, so do your best. You don't need the textbook - I just read the transcripts of his lectures that he provides and his powerpoints and got A's on everything. Some questions are a bit tricky, but they're all in the lecture notes.
I had him for his online class and it was super easy and actually pretty informative. Professor Richards is very knowledgeable and really tries to help his students. All his assignments were pretty straightforward with all the answers from his notes. You don't even need the book just look over his slides for the weekly quizzes. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!
His lectures are SOOO HEAVY! The class is kind of boring because he has really heavy slides and he can most of the time skip them fast so you better take pictures or use a laptop to type on, not notebook by hand. Since this class was once a week and two and a half hours class, it makes it really tough because he gives a whole chapter in one class.
This is the second time I take a class him and he's not the best but not the worst. I received an A- for both classes without buying the book. Just focus on and study the PowerPoints and you'll pass. Motivation class consisted of 2 40 question non cumulative exams and a 80 question cumulative final and 10 page essay that was not so hard.
Dr Richards is a very capable professor and he knows his stuff. Dont think that this is going to be an easy elective that you will just skate through (you wont). Work hard, attend his lectures (hes sarcastic but not mean), do your best and study hard for the cumulative final. IMO the final was the hardest because the info was vast but I passed.
There were quizzes on each chapter and 3 non-cumulative exams. No final. Dr. Richards did well in explaining the material in his lectures. The class was easy, it is just the online lectures that were long. If you pay attention to the lectures, you will do well on the quizzes and exams. It is not necessary to read the book.
Grades on a curve. Instructions are semi-clear, difficult to understand. The tests don't coincide with the notes too well or maybe just worded differently. Lecture is heavy. Its a hit or miss.
Some good jokes, still there are lots of issues. He moves fast through his Powerpoints and doesn't post them online, so if you miss a slide, tough luck. Need book. Also, he asks for a deep essay about your entire childhood. Still, he does have decades worth of experience as a professor and has even been noted by the LA times for his time in UCLA.
11 module quizzes, 3 Exams and 2 assignments due throughout the semester. Easy class to pass, just do the work like any other online course. Pretty straight forward, no need for the text. All the lecture notes are posted in pdf form which is easily accessible and helpful for the quizzes/ exams. Exams consist of almostttt everything from the notes.
Be prepared to read A LOT. His videos are very helpful.
Easy A. This was taken online and he made it easy to understand. I truly learned from this class. He gives you the option to read his transcripts or watch videos. He has weekly quizzes and 3 exams. If you pay attention to what you're reading you will pass the class with an A. Would definitely take again.
Extremely confusing course work and badly explained. Professor is extremely rude when answering questions and unapproachable, he's mean !! The course work though interesting work it's made extremely boring. Unorganized course work and unnecessary reading that's difficult to comprehend. MY ADVICE CHOOSE ANOTHER COURSE !!!
Class is based on a few tests. Goes quickly through material. Also interesting history as a professor. Was noted in the LA Times on DEC. 8, 1987. Asks for an essay about your childhood. Given his history, it's very creepy.
