wow i can't believe i got an A in this class... if you have excellent writing skills and original ideas, you can never show up and not turn in an assignment, and still get an A
He's such a cool teacher. If you have any questions you can go to him and he'll be nice about it. It's great to see his smiling face every MWF it really makes mornings (and school) worth it. He has to be the hottest teacher who's ever lived. *growl* ^_~

My favorite class this year and I don't even care for history. Very funny, nice, intelligent guy. Every girl thinks he's hot. He's the type of teacher you could go and have fun with hanging outside of school. He's a very good teacher accademically as well. Great class.
Love that trench warfare
really cool, fun to be with

good teacher, makes things interesting. very straightforward class, no hw.
By far,my favorite teacher.I've never had a teacher who can make learning fun, until, i was in his class.Very helpful, knows what he is talking about, his lectures are never boring, likes to throw in jokes and keeps students interested in the topic. Great Teacher, highly recommended.
coolest teacher ive had yet at ohlone
Bardell is really cool n I'm going 2 take him for 117B. No hw in his class just 2 midterms and the final. I didn't like hist at all b4 but he got me into it and suprisingly I'm interested in it now. Final grade determined on ur improvement n is interested in ur opinion. Pretty cute n a nice guy.
the teacher we only dream of getting! goofy, laid back. no homework, besides reading which he doesn't even check. 2 midterms and a final, he gives a study guide for; do the study guide pass the test. Loads of video watching, not into specifics, rather than knowing if you understand the material.
one of the best teachers i had in my entire career. The way he teaches makes u get into the lecture. No homework, tests are easy because he explains real well. Take this class, if you don't you're an idiot.
Mr bardell makes you very interested in his lectures. He has a lot of energy and always makes history seem interesting, BUT contrary to belief at least 2005 semester was not the easiest tests. midterm with study guide was still hard, and the first multpile choice test almost everyone failed. hes hot
A++++++
A great professor and I highly recommend him. He makes class very interesting. It makes the subject easier/tolerable. It's mainly a lecture class with a mid-term and a final. No homework. His study guides are awesome. They let you know pretty much what may be on the exam, however, you have to have taken notes in class, it's not all book based...
i had him 4 117A but this 1 was more interesting. he's in2 WW2 n vietnam which got me hooked on it 2. a lil strange how i actually remember the hist. events that went on since the 60s but it's pretty interesting. take his class if u rn't interested in hist. now...cause u will b @ the end of the semester.
Bardell is so Hot and funnY! His classes are funand educational :0)

Awesome class, he makes the material interesting and as long as you study, you'll do well on his tests. He sets it up so you know almost everything including in the test prior to taking it. Plus, he's a really cool guy.
hes enthusiastic and spastic. he teaches you everything high school didnt and clarifies what you might already know. has good viewpoints and relates a lot of things to present day and makes it easier to understand.

Proffesor Bardell explains everything so clearly, that it is easy to stay interested in the class and understand the lecture. He also has his way of adding a little humor to the class, so you will not get bored.

i'm already into history, but he just teaches it differently where the lecture isn't boring.. normally i'd enjoy reading the book more than listening to a lecture... plus he isn't bad to look at.
Great teacher! Very enthusiastic!
Very high energy professor.
He is the best teacher I've had at Ohlone...plus he's hot
OMG!!! If im not paying attention to his lecture, its not because im bored, but because im staring at his beautiful face!!
Koo teacher
He's the best teacher i've come across at Ohlone. I just find it funny that all the little girls love him.
Is very passionate about subject!..and very nice to look at.
All he does is lecture. He doesn't take attendance either, and all he grades you on is the midterm and the final. He is pretty cool and knows what he's talking about. He always relates what he's talking about to us and waht makes us the way we are. I like that a lot.
Cutie, smart, tall... what more can a girl want? hahahha. But on the real note, he is a great instructor... I really dont like history, but he makes it very interesting.
makes history interesting, makes a lot of jokes and relates the past to the present. Also he dances in class, classic.
exellant, helpful, nice and handsome teacher. i respect him alot. he makes the history intresting. he tells joks in class.easy A even for esl students
An intelligent professor that obviously loves his job.
ONE OF THE GREATS
best.professor.ever
very engaging, informative, and HOT. he really gets you thinking and then some. it's not an easy course, but you won't mind working hard in his class. i did not realize i loved history until i took his class. 5 stars.
What a great teacher! He makes history so interesting and exciting. Definately take his class even if it is just for yourself. I never thought i would ever like history that much.
hes a kewl teacher. Always has a interesting story to make the lectures go by a lil faster. But his lectures could be a lil more indepth... That said its a hard class that if u try to just slip by u'll fail.
I am a History Major and I find him to be a great professor.
He is very good teacher to take history. He is very helpful. He can be your best teacher at ohlone college. Yes, there is some rules like every teacher has, which are not so difficult for smart students. 1)you can't sleep in his class or sit like sleepy. If he catch you lay down on desk: there is just one word for you "get out". Everything is perfe
Very nice guy. His policy is just normal college policy, "respect" each other. Essay exam could be hard because he is looking for details, that you know the stuff, not just memorizing.
very good professor. he's a young guy and relates to the students well. he makes history really interesting. lots of personality.
Awesome professor, and he's uber hot too! You have to take him during your stay at Ohlone, he's one of the best professors there!
his class was extremly boring. and he is completley unfair about grading.he makes you take these online quizes that in the end do nothing for your grade. If you really want to get an A and learn DONT TAKE HIM
Bardell is a GREAT teacher. I learned so much from him. He makes history very enjoyable and interesting. I have taken 3 classes with him. 117A, 117B, and 118. I would have to say that 118 was one of the best classes I've taken at Ohlone. Oh, and watch out, if your cellphone rings.... he'll dance to it. :D Funny guy. Not to mention HOT. :D
A very good professor. A dynamic, entertaining and clear lecture style, combined with a fun and open personality. It actually made me want to get up at 8:30 AM to go to class, which is saying something. I can honestly say that I'd rather go to his lectures than sit around and watch TV.
Mr. Barell is a great teacher! He is very ethusiastic and is extremely clear on his lectures and what he expects of you. My interest in Hist. has been average; after his class though,I can really make connections and it is much more interesting and relavent to me now. If you want to really learn about history connections, this is the class for you!
Great teacher who is easy to follow and a very fun class lots of listening to music and reading the history behind it. Okay he's a bit musician geek but in a good way.
Mr. Bardell is boring and hard. He makes his students take online quizzes that do not help the students grades at all. His class is hard, his lectures are confusing, and you barely learn from him. If you want to pass history for sure, do not take his class. You will suffer.
I took Bardell online and it seems like it was going to be hard but it was really a no brainer. Read the book, attend chats, and do the postings and you are good. There is an essay for the midterm that fail a lot but if u review its not hard. The final is two essays but that was not bad either. I got an A so if I can do it so can u.
Intelligent, funny, nice, enjoys the subject, very good class experience
great proffesor, all around the best, knows how to teach. HE actually made ME learn something wow
Professor Bardell is an awesome teacher. If you take his advice on how to do well in the class, then you'll pass, no question. No room for slackers. This is NOT an easy A, but you learn and that's what counts.
Don't take his class if English is your second language. you will get biggggggggggggggg trouble
He is a great teacher. Online was fun. There is a test each week on the chapter assigned of that week, I thought it was going to be hard but I did good in the class!
A GREAT PROFESSOR, RECOMMEND HIM ONLINE TOO.
he is so hard...but he is really funny. and he really does dance when someone's cell phone rings. he's a cool guy but a HARD teacher!
Took him in the summer.. not "easy" but the class isnt hard at all, he's a great teacher and isnt boring.
He is a great teacher. History is boring but he was extremely helpful. You need to actually WORK to do good in this class. Online was great only one textbook needed. Test every week. Final consist of a essay that must be completed in 90 minutes. Impossible? I think not. I f this intimidates you don't take the class. I liked the class a lot.
Come to class, take notes, read lecture transcripts, get an A...you only need the book for the chapter quizes which are really simple
he is great!!!!
tooooooooooooooo hard for online class. don't take him. you will get biggggggggggggg trouble.
helps you get a way better understanding of history with his style of teaching, i learned alot from him, you have to attnd every class because the midterm and finals are essays based on only the lecture notes, but many people drop because 1/3 of the clas fails teh midterm, he is a great teacher but he doesnt give out easy A's or B's
Bardell is awesome. He's an excellent teacher that makes the material really interesting. His notes can get long and indepth so take good ones! If you have a laptop, bring it to class because the more notes you take the better off you are. His class isn't for slackers who don't do their work, but it's not hard if you just pay attention and study.
Professor Bardell is an excellent teacher. His class is difficult and he does tend to move fairly fast, but he always keeps things interesting. Ultimately, if you pay attention in class and do the reading, you will learn, which I suppose is really what taking a course is all about.
Funny, bit strict but in a reasonable way. Read the syllabus and do what it says you'll get a good grade, he was also my Music History Prof.(A) This is a harder class but has more units so Duh! Not an easy class-not 'hard' either. It's a core GE req and should be just as hard online as on campus. If you think online=easy please don't go to college.
Surfer! HOT STUFF!!!! Besides that really good teacher...very funny! He is very helpful. He does expect the best out of his students and he is very challenging but students could only benefit from this. Attendance is extremely important. Cannot pass if you're absent a lot and if you don't do the reading. I do recommend Dr. Bardell!
Attendance isnt mandatory, but believe me, it helps so much. Take as many notes as possible because it will totally help you in the end.
funny, kept the class interesting and enjoyable. will learn a lot of info and useful
He is very professional and his teaching method is awesome. He is very passionate and he doesn't ask for much. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps. I never read the book & took notes I never looked over ever. I paid attention but didn't listen at times but I got an A in his class because grades are based on Midterm & Final. Easy & fun class.
He is the best HISTORY teacher at Ohlone..he is passionate about what he is teaching. If you ask him to clarify something he would do it with pleasure he is soooo nice!TAKE HIM you won't regret it...A+++++
Prof. Bardell is probably the best teacher up at the Big O. Don't take him lightly. Mid-Terms and Finals are on Lectures and Reading. Anything learned in HS WILL NOT cut it. Take Notes, Read the book (bookmark pages and highlight too)go to class!! Mid-Terms and Final questions are usually lectured on right after a holiday or mid-term. Go to those!!
GO TO CLASS!!! he doesn't take attendance but you need to go if you want to pass. Learn to take great notes, read, and go to class. grade is based on a 2 part midterm and final, which is heavily based on lectures. fair grader, will work with you if needed.
A great professor that you can easily relate to. Reading is not mandatory, but attendance is. Take thorough notes during the lecture, take advantage of online study sessions (free answers!), and be as detailed as possible in your essays. I earned an 'A' in the class.
Mose useless teacher ever. His quizzes are nonsense, he makes no sense during class. He goes off topic, his exams are as hard as rocks. Fill in the blanks for a history exam!!! What the HELL!? He doesn't even go by his outlines. Then he expects you to pass? AVOID
Hes the worst teacher ever. avoid him.
Great..............
Great teacher. Clear, concise lectures with some amusing snippets of his life and metaphors thrown in. Quizzes are great for review, the fill-in-the-blank part of the exam are basically free points if you attend class, and the essay is manageable if you study. I would and will take him again.
i love the way you teach man we understand what you are teaching us at the same time itz not boaring there's always somthing that attracts my interest while you are teaching. thanks you
he is an awesome teacher, you have to work really hard, but he;s great!
Besides being INCREDIBLY hot, he is definitely one of the best professors at Ohlone. He's very animated and very enthusiastic about what he teaches. But don't take his class if you're looking for an easy A. His classes take a lot of time and work, but he's very clear on what you need to do outside of his lecture. Take him!
Not the easiest teacher. I took his online class, be ready to do so much more work than in-class. You will need all the notes you've got to prepare for the mid term and final. Be as detail as you can be on essays or you get marked off.
He is a very intelligent guy with a great sense of humor. His lectures are very interesting and worth attending. He is honestly a great professor. And yes, he does look very good, but what matters here is the fact that he's doing a great job at Ohlone, they are lucky to have him.
Coolest teacher! He seems to have a passion on what he teaches, which makes the class more interesting. Just come to lecture, take good notes and you will be fine.
A great teacher hands down, I had this professor for 117A and 117B, the problem was that there are three things to watch out for and that is the 2 midterms and the final. His teaching style is cool and funny which makes taking the class great!
Hey, how come you say there were two midterms, I just took his class this semester and we only had a midterm and a final.
Great and funny teacher. Made class fun.
Prof. Bardell is a teacher who always want to help his students to get a better grade. He is an fair grader and proveide pofessional guidance. He is one of the top ten very intelligent teacher in our school. P.S. Prof. Bardell is HOT!
the best!!!!!he is the epitome of a good instructor. HE connects material with nowaday issues and actually challenges you to be a cristical thinker! the best!
he is such a great instuctor..
One of the best professors at Ohlone college hands down!!!! cant get better than him. Great lecturer helps students learn a great amount of information.
If you're a history buff like myself, this class is gold. His lectures are lively and interesting, the videos informative, and the exams brutally difficult. The essay tests will require a significant timesink, but if you want to get something out of the class, this is the way to do it. Excellent professor.
I HATE history but this teacher is AMAZING he keeps you locking into what he's saying and will meet with you and personally help you. He WANTS you to pass.. also gives a study guide.. very HELPFUL. highly RECOMMENDED... the Bad is the Final is two essays.
This guy is freakin awesome! Makes you work hard for your grade, but he'll basically give you all the answers you need if you attend his lectures. He's funny, informative, off-topic at times, and lively. He doesn't bore you at all, and if you like history, this guy is the way to go. Work hard, and keep up= easy A.
Did online course.4 discussion questions, midterm and final. Great professor, his lectures are clear and he lets you know exactly what he wants. You must do the reading and listen to his lectures to do well in this class.
Mmm Hot and super cool
Very very interesting. i enjoy his class very much. he made history fun.
Don't take the online class. He is not helpful at all if you ever have a problem or if you have any questions about your homework. If you do your hw wrong...all he'll tell you is "do it better and resubmit" or "this answer is too general" and doesn't tell you how it SHOULD be done. This guy sucks and his teaching method is a piece of S**T
Bardell is such an awesome teacher. You do have to study and earn a decent grade in his class, but its worth it. He makes history interesting, and hes pretty easy on the eyes ;)
he is the best history teacher i ever had. i had him in my first semester at ohlone for GE requirement. Just make sure you attend his lecture even though he doesn't take attendance. His exam essays are out of his every word he pours out in lecture. You should write fast as well! He's a great professor and HOT! I had him for both A and B. GOT A's!!!
By far the BEST history teacher I have ever taken. Only a mid-term and final essays on topics discussed in the lecture. Gives you outlines for the lectures so you can take notes. There's easy quizzes to take online and are multi-choice and all in the book. He knows his history and adds humor into the mix to make history fun. Highly recommended!!!
Great professor! He doesn't mess around, he gets right into the core of the information. He is very helpful and has a PHD. Overall, he is very intelligent and does his best to make learning fun and compelling. Great class, great professor, I give it 5/5 stars! Plus, he ain't bad looking either! ;)
He is a great teacher. Always has fun and lively classes. He makes hes topics easy to understand. I found the class to be easy. I just had to show up and listen. I highly recommend taking his class.
I took the online course. This definitely wasn't an easy class. Bardell doesn't want you to BS it, and he'll know if you are trying to BS the class. If you're taking it online, listen to the lectures before the midterm and final. I used to hate history, but he made it so interesting. He's a great teacher.
He's a very good teacher; I love history in the first place, and this class quickly became my favorite. He doesn't focus so much on memorization of dates and the like, he is more about learning how it affects us today. Very interesting lectures, very funny, not at all boring. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he's fairly attractive. ;D
Class seemed hard at first, turned out to be really easy. You don't even have to go to class (though it would help) because Bardell posts all his lectures on podcast. Just do all the tests, keep up with the readinds and lectures and you'll be fine. He's the HOTTEST teacher on campus, so going to class is WORTH it. LOL!
I had him for 117A and 117B. The best professor on campus! It helps that he is attractive and charming. ;) i learned a LOT... so much that i am going to become a history major. he's very intelligent and knows exactly what he is talking about and he gets straight to the point. plus, you gotta love his dog Truman.
He is a great fun teacher to have, he gets really into his lectures which makes it more interesting. He really takes time to answer your questions and is usually available to answer any questions you may have. He podcasts his lectures so attendance isn't mandatory. Exams are essay format so strong writing and critical thinking skills are a must!
His finals are essays and paragraph so that suucks! But teaching wise, he's a good teacher and hes really into his work but you gotta pay attention.
Bardell is amazingly hott. Who cares about history! But the way he teaches, I don't need to take any notes he is your All American Boy, and I passed thats all that matters!!!
make sure you goto class and the midterma dn final will be simple
By taking the online class Fall 09 I was able to pre-write essays for the midterm and final. Possible topics he will choose are on the lecture outlines or can be similar to the 4 Discussion Question Response Essays. This class also includes 12 Multiple Choice Chapter Tests. BE SURE TO LISTEN TO LECTURES EACH WEEK.
His class fills up fast! GREAT teacher! Make sure you study.. be there for all or most of his classes because EVERYTHING he says and shows on videos are on the final. He's funny.. class is never boring. Passed the class with an A. =)
Really great teacher! Makes history exciting and makes the students want to show up for class. (he says first day of class that, being adults, you are not required to come to class, but you will have a hard time in the class if you don't)
I took this class and realized how ignorant I was about American history. This man is my personal enlightenment. Thanks Bardell.
Took History 117a online with Bardell, he teaches at college level. Was he difficult? Yes I had to work my butt off to get a A. His online work was easy mainly test and papers. But this is not class where you can get a easy A
Prof Bardell keeps class fun. Make sure you try to show up & take notes. His study guides help so much when studying for essay midterm&final, and he is always willing to help. Don't fall asleep.. It's hard to anyway when you have such a handsome professor teaching the class! :)
Shows occasional videos and requires a mass of note taking through his lectures about 5-7 pages worth of notes a lecture. He will kick you out if you speak to the person next to you, text, or even sleep,he's strict. He grades HARSH! So for my A students out there don't be surprised to get a C or even D on the midterm. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT!
Don't buy the HIST TB! Just share with someone when taking the chapter test online, he let's you do that. Your grade is based on the chapter test, midterm, and final. The midterm and final are based on lectures, MUST ATTEND CLASS TO KNOW HOW TO ANSWER MIDTERM AND FINAL QUESTIONS. GRADES VERY HARD! Don't be Late to class, he will embarrass you.
GREAT PROF. Admits his lectures are boring, but tries to mix it up for his students to help them learn. Extremely helpful. Grade is based on online chapter tests (extremely easy), midterm (short answer & an essay, and final (2 essays). Focuses on the "Why & how" of history, instead of "Who, what, where, when." Be wary if you're bad at English.
He is a great professor, you will learn in this class, his classes are not hard, but you do have to attend class take lots of notes and study guides are helpful, his finals are not hard if you study the guide it can be an easy A he is a helpful professor offers his hours for those want the help. Yes take the class you wont regret it just study for
best professor, very helpful and always willing to help. class is fun his lectures are good.study the study guide and u be fine, lots of note taking but worth taking dont miss a class podcasts are helpful, tests r not hard easy class if u up for the challenge for an A.
First of all, history has always been my BEST subject and I always get As. Imagine my surprise when I got a D in this class. Everyone loves Bardell and he makes the class fun and interesting; HOWEVER, I understood everything perfectly & did everything absolutely right, yet he still gave low test scores. It's totally unclear what he expects of you.
Dont knw wer 2 start from,1st of all,be wide awake, hve lots of coffee& take advil along(incase). He is all american,so is his teaching style.Though there r a lot of broken links & with incomplete sentencs which makes you pull ur hair sometime but his enthusiasm in his voice & random funny moves covers up 4 d loss.Advisd 2 lissen clas online 2.rcmnde
If you're not too great with English be wary of his class. He recommends passing ENG-101A before taking his class for a reason. He's a very fun prof that's passionate about history. He focuses on WHY/HOW things happened in history more that WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, although you do still need to know the basics of those. Take him if you want to learn
He is engaging and an amazing storyteller. Love how he includes videos on top of lectures. Huge class size for community college, is hard to contact outside of class. Very friendly, approachable, and emphasizes integrity. Hard class, attendance is "not required" but if you skip you WILL fall behind and its hard to catch up! Hard final, so worth it.
Professor Bardell is possibly the best history teacher at Ohlone. I took his 117A course and learned loads of information through both his in-class lectures and online Podcasts. His online tests were quite easy, but both the midterm and final required lots of critical thinking and interpretation. Very accessible, friendly, and helpful.
Very enthusiastic. Tries to engage the students, but since its a morning class, people are usually dead. Strict with the grades. All "hw" and test assessments are online. Do them and you'll be fine. Attend lectures, they help with comprehension of the textbook. No midterm. The final determines grade.
I think he's the best history teacher ever. I don't even like history & usually sleep in class, but I never slept! Read the textbook first before attending class, this helps a lot. Tests & quizzes are online 60% of your grade. Note taking is required, but no electronics (no laptops). The final exam is writing 2 essays, 40% of final grade.
Has a nice projected voice and is very enthusiastic. He will kick people out if they're sleeping or texting without hesitating! I had a morning class so a lot of people are tired, but he cracks jokes here & there and hits stuff hard to keep you entertained. Knows his information. Test & quizzes are online. Final exam is writing two essays in 2hrs
Professor Bardell was the first teacher to actually get me interested in history. I started out dreading the class because my past history experiences have been dreadful. His enthusiasm and knowledge is a perfect combo, and because of it, I received an A. I recommend him to everyone.
Bardell is a very intelligent professor who knows a lot about history. Overall he is very helpful, though the class is very challenging.
lest be honest, this guy arrogant. Loves to lecture. but if you show up and understand what he is saying you will do well. after all his talk about how hard his tests are I got an A on both. use the online lectures (really helpful!) and write his opinion right back to him on your tests and you will do fine. Makes history pretty interesting
He's really nice and very passionate about history. He's a pretty easy grader as well, he wants people to pass his class...I barely passed but I really shouldn't have passed at all. Attendance is not mandatory, he records and puts all of his lectures online. And last but not least, he's a handsome guy!
One of the best teachers that I've had at Ohlone. He's enthusiastic and his lectures are engaging. There are online tests, and he puts all of his lectures online. Not a whole lot of work. Everyone should take his classes!!!
This class was tough, I'm not going to lie! Professor Bardell's a pretty reasonable professor [and not bad looking;)]. He's very passionate about the subject! Attendance is not mandatory, every month or so we had to take about 5 online quizzes based on each chapter, an interview, and a final. So make sure you do well on those!
Do not take his class. I have always done well in history. There was only a midterm and a final. He gave the midterms back and put a grade on it with practically no reason why he gave what he gave. I used quotes from the book and lectures, along with other useful facts/dates/etc., yet he still gives a failing grade. I never missed a lecture either.
Attendance is not mandatory. I occasionally skipped class since he has his lectures online (audio & transcript)-helpful, but somewhat boring-. Final was 2 essays (tough for me since I slacked off in the last month). Passed with a B tho. Online assignments were annoying, but bonus quizzes make up points you got wrong. Helps to read the book!
He has a shot to be the next 007 after Daniel Craig. The best dress professor at Ohlone by far and should be in GQ Magazine. He's also by far the best professor at Ohlone. Must take if you want to learn about US history. He's very strict and hard grader but what do you expect? This is College! This guy is a walking history encyclopedia.
Bardell's class isn't even bad. His lectures are engaging and captivating. The assessments were online-super easy. During finals week I listened to his lectures on iTunes wherever I was and studied what he told us to study. Got an A in his class. Best teacher I've ever had.
He is a wonderful professor! If you listen to his lectures and read the textbook this class should be fairly easy. Just know that his midterm and final are pure essay format( no multiple questions) so you better know your stuff! Other than that it's a breeze! He is well organized and incredibly entertaining to listen to.
This is by far one of Ohlone's best lecturers. The only thing that is difficult about the class is the midterm and final. Other than that, he's a really great teacher and he even gives you an outline for notes.
Not only is he extremely attractive he is one of the most knowledgeable professors at Ohlone. I only attended for a semester and his class had me at the edge of my seat. EXCELLENT teacher. Take advantage of all the resources he provides for you!
Best professor ever even though I passed with a C. Final was pretty hard and you dont really know what hes expecting from you. You basically need to include EVERYTHING you have learned and use plenty of examples to back up your points. Other than that I really enjoyed the class. I think he went back to school so hes no longer a professor here :[
Professor Bardell is a good teacher. He kept it interesting enough for me to want to come to class. Reading/skimming the textbook consistantly paid off once the final came around. bonus points on the hw assignments really helped keep my grade up. Overall this is a good class. I usually dread history classes, but this one was actually pretty good.
Complete lack of communication. Do not take this class online. Midterm and final essays and online assignments that you have to pay to do. No office hours available. You really have to understand what he wants or you'll fail but when you email him he does not respond so you will fail. Recorded lectures were pointless and unorganized as the course.
Professor Bardell is by far one of the best professor at Ohlone college. He has the quality of a private university professor at a community college. He is very passionate about teaching history and is very knowledgeable about his lectures. You will learn everything about US history, if you take his class! After Daniel Craig, Bardell should be 007!
You are on your own in this course. It takes weeks for him to respond to emails. There are only a few assignments, so everything is based on a few things. He doesn't seem to log into the course EVER, and there is no guidance what so ever. Bardell is entirely unavailable. Worst professor I've had at Ohlone.
It seems like from other reviews Bardell is good in person, and he may be, but he is a lousy teacher online. You're basically on your own in the class. As others have said, he takes forever to respond to emails and your grade is based on a few assignments so if you screw up one you fail the course. Take McCarty or DeUnamuno if you need online.
Professor Bardell takes forever to reply in emails. Itll take you at least 2 weeks for him to answer you. Im not sure what hes doing that so important not to answer all of us. If I were you, do not take his class. Midterms are hard. He expects you to memorize all without notes. He gave us 3 different essay topics in 5-7 paragraphs & more.
I am currently trying to do this midterm study guide before the actual miderm tomorrow, however its so difficult because he asks so many things and his lectures sometimes don't make sense. However his lectures are a bit fun, there are a few things that are all over the place and doesn't tie up. Im struggling so DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
The final is worth 60% of your grade, and since there is no midterm you have no idea what to expect. I am an A student and I earned a D on it. The plusses are that there is very little work. The negatives are that this means you fail the entire course if you don't do well on one thing. Plus he never logs into the course or responds to email.
Negative - Tests are VERY unclear. Positive - Quizzes are so easy. Negative - Grade relies on 2 essays. Positive - Barely any work. Midterm 30% and Final 40% of your grade. Midterm is a 800-1000 word essay, timed. Professor takes long to answer e-mails. TURN AWAY. Don't do it. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. Take other online professor.
Lectures are not bad, but can be all over the place sometimes you don't know what is important to take note of and he goes off topic a bit. The study guide is ridiculous!! it was hard to even find the correct information for everything he put on there with three 5-7 paragraph essay questions and 10+ short answers that had to be 2-3 paragraphs each!
Must listen & take notes to pass the midterm & final which are both equally hard if you don't study but passable if you take class seriously. Textbook not needed. I recommend you to print out the lecture notes he provides on blackboard. Attendance is not mandatory but whatever he lectures on will be on the test, he doesn't go by the textbook.
Professor Bardell will make you work hard for the grade you want, but that is what college is all about! He provides a lot of resources and great information during lectures that will help you prepare for the midterm and final. If you attend class regularly, utilize his lecture notes and author videos on blackboard, you can definitely pass.
I rated him last time ( the one who is currently doing the midterm 1020) and I literally left his class with a B+ all that struggling was definitely worth it. It's all about how to study in his class. His points are everywhere so your notes need to be neat in order to know which ties with what. Study groups are also very essential!
Lectures are good bcus he puts it all into perspective so that you can absorb the info and identify certain things that are still relevant today. He keeps lectures interesting, provides great materials online. Attend class everyday & detailed notes, you will likely have everything you need to pass. Entire grade is based on your midterm & final.
The rating speaks for itself, in my opinion he is probably one of the top five professors at Ohlone.
Grades are based solely on the midterm and final exams. Midterm consists of some short answer questions and an essay. Final is two essay questions. Midterm worth 40% of the grade and final is worth 60% of the grade in the class.
Essay questions for midterm and final.
Midterm and Final are the ONLY graded material, 40% for midterm and 60% for final. Scares people but just show up to every class and take notes. Gives study guide for both tests which is very helpful, I never bought a textbook. Straightforward professor but is really nice 1 on 1, ASK for help he will love you for it, shows your interested.
I took his 117B class online. Your grade is based off of the midterm & final, with 3 discussion board postings. The reason I got an A is because I'm a really good writer, because this class is more of an English class than a history class. Definitely would not take him online unless you're a good essay writer.
His lecture quality varies in both quality and relevance to the tests, and your whole grade is based around your midterm, a final, and an extra credit essay (5%). His study guides for the tests can be helpful as he often has criteria of keywords and events from the lectures that he is looking for in your essays so make sure you really cover it.
I tagged "would take again," because you would probably have to retake the class again after you fail it. This class is TOUGH. There is no homework assigned, so your grade only relies on the midterm and final exam, so if you screw up one of them, you are pretty much doomed. The tests consist of essay questions that he grades ridiculously hard.
I took him for both 117A and 117B. No HW, only graded on midterm 40% final 60% however there is an Interview assignment that ppl didn't mention. Doesn't take role or know ppl by name which many take for granted & skip class time. Great lectures! If you ACTUALLY show up & take good notes you're good! The key is include many terms from study guide :)
Really interesting class. He is obviously passionate about the subject and although the course is lecture based, he always takes time after class to answer questions, very accessible. You're final grade is solely based on the midterm and the final, so steady wins the race. Take good notes and attend lectures you'll easily succeed. Learned a lot!
Bardell gives great lectures and is a really passionate teacher , great on helping you outside of class. As long as you attend lectures and take good notes you will pass the class
You are only graded on three major assignments; midterm, final, and an interview. Not recommended if you want more opportunity to get a better grade than writing an exam essay. If you do take be studious.
Professor barrel is one of the greatest professors ever period. He is such a kind hearted instructor who truly cares for his students! He always reply so fast and is wonderful personality! Take his class and you will do fine!
Its all about taking great notes on his amazing lectures. Only grades on midterm and final. Thats it. No homework or papers. Gives detailed study guides for both tests. Not a lot of work but he's a tough grader. Keep good notes and study them and you'll be fine.
Great Professor, very straight forward with assignment and expectations. Read the textbook, study for the midterm and final exam and you will cruz through the course. Lectures are great and very interesting. About half the class stopped showing up after first two week, they failed and complain about failing.
I took Bardell at Ohlone then transferred to UCSB. His class was the most "University" like course I ever took at Ohlone and I sailed through my upper division lecture classes here. I struggled taking notes and staying motivated because he doesn't take attendance or hold your hand but if you show up, take notes, study his study guide you will pass
Bardell's a great teacher and I would definitely recommend taking him, don't take his online classes they aren't very specific on the hw and he doesn't give a lot of feedback, there's too much reading outside of class. One of my friends took his class on campus class and they have much less work to do.
This class is an insane amount of work for a GE. Every week you do around 6-10 journal entries and take around the same amount of mini quizzes from the readings. ON top of that you have a short essay due every week which he grades pretty savagely. I got a D on my last two papers and left with no feedback. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS.
Ready your text carefully, take notes, take quizzes seriously for grading and you will pass the class easily. The main thing to focus on is your own opinion and critical analysis of situations studied in the text. I took western civilization as a summer course, it was very fast paced and I think I would've enjoyed it more as a full semester course.

Just took summer class, very straightforward if you follow syllabus and don't miss assignments. All online classes are fast paced and not as interesting as f-2-f so wasn't surprised or bothered by that fact. Communicated several times a week and gave solid feedback on all assignments. Don't plagiarize, do the work and you'll get at least a B.
Currently taking history of rock. For a 3 unit class expect to put in a lot of work. I'm taking a Critical thinking English class (4 units) which happens to be less writing heavy. Be ready to basically write an essay every 1-2 weeks, then receive a grade with no feedback. Is effectively making me not care about one of my favorite genres of music.
History of rock 'n' roll /142 is much more difficult than any other class I have taken in College! I loved the subject but do not enjoy this class & subject anymore because of the ebook structure and instructor feedback. took 142 w/ different teacher got an A. If students are not turning in good papers, this is a direct reflection on the professor!
This class is lecture based. You have to be a great notetaker in this class. The only thing I would complain about this class are the midterms and finals. He gives you multiple prompts and has you write 5-7 paragraphs per prompt. He is. really tough grader on the exams (mid term & final). You need to know how to write historical essays!!!
Great feedback and clear syllabus.
Bardell strictly knows the material and answers all questions. Thing is, in order to pass you need to attend lectures and take detailed notes because that is what you need in order to write pristinely for the midterm and final, which are the only two elements that make up your entire grade. Lectures are engaging; OH is very helpful.
I am horrible at history classes but Bardell made it interesting, even in the morning. If you are Adult enough to take his class seriously, it will really prepare you for University if you are transferring. Midterm is 40% and Final 60% of grade. Just pay attention and study and you will succeed. Notes are everything. Bonus he dresses professional.
Hardest class I've ever had. 5 papers make up your entire grade. 3 small essays 30%, midterm 30%, final 40%. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU DON'T NEED IT, EVEN IF YOU LOVE THE SUBJECT. I made that mistake! I'm a rock and roll musician myself of over 13 years who has spent hundreds of hours reading about this subject already and this class was so hard!
If you are a GREAT NOTE TAKER, then feel free to take this class because you need A LOT OF GREAT, DETAILED NOTES in order to pass this class. If not, then stay away from taking this class! Your grade is ONLY based on midterm (60%) and final (40%).
Professor Bardell himself was a very charismatic and interesting guy. The class is based off of the midterm and the final which were both timed essays. You have to take really in depth notes to really help you. If you dont have any interest in history it might be too boring to just listen to lectures. I would recommend an online course instead.
if you aren't a great note taker, don't take this class.
Easy class if you attend regularly and take notes. He gives a study guide with the exact questions that are on the midterm and final 2 weeks in advance. Not sure why other students didn't figure this out . . .
Really great lecturer and nice guy. Not much discussion but easy ebook. Only midterm and final exam, both essay format. Gives study guide and extra credit. My favorite class last year
Solid online class with average amount of work. Im not musical and had no problem passing class. Listen to and write about rock and roll music every other week, not exactly stressful or hard. Responds right away and was nice.
Took 117a last semester, taking 117b this semester. Lectures are interesting. He gives lecture outlines so easy to follow. Study guide before midterm and final exam. Textbook was online only with lots of pics and videos. No multi-choice testing, just in class writing. Nice to students but strict with rules. Fav. prof at Ohlone.
He wants his students to be passionate about the subject, which is good, but terrible if you're not on the same level as him. I loved his US History course but music sucked. He wants you to analyze the music, but also focus on how it shaped history and it's hard to do that with the prompts he gives out. Best to just focus on dropbox and ignore book
Coming from a perspective where I was a borderline C, worked my butt off on my final essay and given an A (when deserving a B), Bardell overall has been a great professor in making sure we don't just understand course material, but respect history.
Prof Bardell is an easy going instructor. He always grades writing assignments and online quizzes in online classes a lot easier but a little slower than the other instructors at school. Keep in touch with history classes online and you can get largely comfortable with them.
Pretty standard lecture course with easy reading but hard exams. Interesting and fun class. Show up, take notes, pass the class without drama. He is nice and flexible with assignments.
The class is note heavy but dont look at his notes. His white board ends up full of scribbles, very hard to read. He talks (shouts) basically the whole time and talks about things as if we all know about it already which we dont. Make sure too look at him because hell call you out. I literally looked to my left and got yelled at. Good luck.
Get ready to write.
Bardell is a solid professor. Your grade in this class is dependent on the effort you put in. Attendance is optional, but the exams cover the concepts discussed in lecture. He puts an emphasis on understanding the concepts behind historical events. His lecture style is engaging and helps one understand complex topics. Definitely recommend the class
Lots of writing and reading. Even one outside source will be punished as plagiarism(even you don't mean to cheat, just by mistake). Good luck if u choose his class.
The entire class session is a lecture, if you take good notes then you'll be fine. READ THE BOOK!!! There's no homework in that class so the only thing that he grades are the two tests and the final so make sure that you know your stuff, he's a tough grader. His lectures aren't boring though he makes it engaging. Just know your stuff and youll pass
His lectures are amazing- engaging and interesting. BUT you cant read ahead because the lecture outlines and syllabus are 15 years old! He doesnt bother to update them. You only have 3 essay exams (including finals) and an interview. So if you miss a part of any lecture your grade will really suffer. Doesnt respond to emails so ask in class.
Professor Bardell is very engaging and passionate about history. He lectures throughout the whole class and you NEED to take good notes to pass. I dont recommend skipping his class because youre going to need your notes to pass the exams. Altogether your grade is based on two midterms & a final exam. He gives very helpful exam study guides.
He doesnt take attendance so dont worry if you miss a lecture or two. My whole grade was centered around a midterm and a final. Im usually a good student but this class was lazy. By that I mean he only gives you two opportunities to be graded at all. You dont get any points for attendance or other assignments. Dont recommend
Attendance is not mandatory, but I would strongly recommend showing up because a lot of the details you need for his tests are covered in his lectures. I really enjoyed most of Professor Bardell's lectures and didn't have too much difficulty in his class. But there are not many assignments/tests in the class, so make sure to study well for tests.
I took a class with this professor online, and I thought that we had to do a lot of work. There were reading quizzes that were really difficult on a weekly/biweekly basis and many essays. I think that this type of class would have been better to take in person.
The grading and expectations of this online class were clear and concise. The grading is based off of biweekly work that you have plenty of time to work on. There were several essays throughout the semester and Professor Bardell gives back clear grades with how to improve in writing. I would take this class again!
Sweet Jesus, Bardell's class was rough. His class involves so much writing. We had to write 5 papers. Most required 800 words or more. On the plus side there is a lot of freedom with what you can write about. We also had a lot of other writing assignments. Lastly, he grades insanely rough. If you love hard work or writing than you'll love him.
For HIST117B, we had biweekly hard quizzes along with one written assignment. The quizzes were unnecessarily difficult even after studying for them. His grading on papers is not harsh at all. I would recommend him, but it is a lot of work.
Very rinse and repeat learning course. Biweekly quizzes on e-text--only account for 10% of grade (all reading comprehension) and short written assignment biweekly. Four 800 word essays with same prompt. Final of 1000-1500 word essay. Simple grading standards, very clear cut on what should be done.
Be prepared for 800 word essays due with each learning module. He doesn't allow students to see what answers are incorrect on the quizzes. How can we learn from our mistakes when we don't know the correct answer? Horrible class. I would've withdrawn if I knew it was going to be like this. Take this course with a different professor.
Great class. Very easy to follow syllabus and class schedule. Textbook is unorthodox and very interesting. A lot of reading and writing but I learned a lot and enjoyed the class and Prof. Bardell's teaching style.
