I absolutely dislike this subject, but, Mr. Leaver is truly a great teacher. A bit too fast with the slides, but otherwise quite clear. He also has such a fun personality that I've actually enjoyed being in the class even if the subject was bland (to me). Highly recommended. Especially if interested

what can i say about this professor? THE BEST TEACHER IN THE WORLD.and i mean it. as long as you take notes and pay attention in the class you should be ok. if you need to take a science class that counts twords your transfer units TAKE HIM.

Leaver is a great teacher overall and knows how to interject humor in his lectures. As long as you nail the materials covered in his study guide, you'll have no problem achieving an A in the class. I strongly recommend!

Mr. Leaver is by far the best Prof. that ive had at GCC. He knows what hes talking about, asigns little to no homework. the only thing you need to do is present power point presentation at the end of the semester. For anyone thats looking for a fun class (cause hes got great humor) and an easy A then take a class with him.

Awesome teacher. He is very funny and DEFINITELY knows his stuff. He loves geography and can answer any question on the environment and the planet. You really should try to come as often as you can because the tests are always directly off his lectures. But yeah if you need GEOG as a requirement, this is your guy.

I got an A. He is hands down awesome. Take good notes, study, and put some work into the class and you'll get a good grade. There are quizes and he doesn't drop exam grades but the quizes can raise your grade. One of the best at GCC, take him and you won't regret it.

Very nice guy and easy class. He makes it really interesting and fun. He's a great guy to talk to, very understanding and good at what he does. Test are out of his notes in class and he will let you out early or just use the time to talk about his travels. Great class!

Mr Leaver, one of the best teachers you can take, he explains perfectly clear that everyone can understand, all the tests are from the notes, he gives pop quizes, and you can tell when its coming, rarely any h/w just read your notes for tests and your settled :)

This is not an interesting subject at all, I took the same class once before and I dropped with a W. He is very knowledgeable and exactly knows how to make this boring subject fun. Take the class with him and enjoy your time in the class.

Great Teacher!!! he is trully one of the greatest. His class is so simple and so fun to be in you forget that he is a teacher and think of him as a buddy. No Homework!! he practilly gives the answers for all the tests and quizes, PLUS if you take his lab he takes you on field trips! He is awsome!!! i recomend him for everyone! EASY A+++++

I loved Mr. Leaver. Don't believe the comments of him being biased. He knows his subject well, all you need to do is take good notes and come to class. His tests arn't that easy, but if you study hard and really know the subject you'll get an A (regardless of your hair color). I also took him for Lab and he took us to Palm Springs, that was fun.

He is a Great Teacher. Really knows his stuff and always wants to help you learn everything about the world. He grades according to how you do on the HWK, and TEST's and thats all, oh ya dont be an @$$ because he isn't. He is the NICEST guy and you can ask for help anytime. Easy A if you try.

One of the greatest teachers (if not the greatest)at gcc. While he can take some time going through each subject this can be a good thing as some people are slow learners.Also his quizzes are at the very start so get there early or get screwed. Overall hes a really funny, witty guy, and that helps if you arent of the rock loving type.

I loved Professor Leaver. He is really easy to get along with and really understanding. If you put in the time and the effort you'll see results. Professor Leaver is an extremely helpful and honest teacher. He clearly enjoys his job, and tries to make everything as fair as possible. Lectures are VERY clear, and textbook use is reasonably low. However, tests and quizzes are NOT easy at all. The main exams require a lot of note taking, preparation, and memorization! I highly recommend Leaver.

Proffesor Leaver is one of my favorite teachers! Always looked forward going to his class, very interesting and informative lectures. The tests aren't hard if you study, take good notes, go over the powerpoint slides on his website, and his study guides are really good. Be there early for the pop quizzes! I highly recommend him!

Hard class. Lots of note taking. I was somewhat interested in this class because of this instructor. He is very hilarious and tells jokes that relates to his teachings. Take his class and you will learn the material.

I love everything about this teacher. Fun, interesting and easy going. Scantron quizzes and scantron tests. Awesome presentation and super huge class. He makes everything clear for you by showing videos, using materials and objects and making jokes to stick his lecture in your head. Highly recommended!

This class was really interesting and i learned a lot. I got an A and this is what i did: I would print out the powerpoints prior to the lectures and I would take notes on the powerpoints. The class consists of 2 midterms of 50 multiple choice (100 points each) and a final worth 200 points. Book is online, so great, you save money!

Makes every dull part of geography interesting.150 for total hw/quizes honestly those were just "gimmies" quizes are easy and I mean its impossible to fail his quizes. He has three 150 point tests and those you MUST study for A LOT! long but not hard, if you know the material

He made Geography fun... Yes, you read that correctly. His class is set up in a way to help you get an A. If you put in an ounce of effort, you will do great. He is an amazing professor and without a doubt the best professor at GCC!

Funny, makes Geography interesting. A lot of Quizzes, some in class, some online, which allows you to retake them up to 6 times and can help bump up your grade. The hard part about the Tests are the Essay questions. Allows 3 index cards for cheat sheets for one test. More than half the class was failing because they didn't take the class seriously

He's a cool guy. I personally couldn't care less about GEO but took it regardless. Let's say I was positively surprised how interesting I ended up finding his class. The other reviews are accurate. Take him.

Very kind and funny. Tests are hard because of the Essay questions. Not an easy A, but allows you to drop 4 of your lowest quizzes and your lowest test. Because of this, I didn't have to take the Finals. Learned a lot, and he always has interesting stories. Doesn't really give Extra Credit, but HW and online quizzes are basically giveaways.

I took his class over winter and got an A. He wrote his own textbook which is easy to follow and clear cut. Leaver has such a kind heart and great personality that going to class was fun even over winter. If you read every chapter and take notes on things he specifies during lecture then it's an easy A. He makes you work for it but it's not hard.

I took professor Leaver's Geography 101. I do have to say he was one of my favorite professors. If you want an A, do the online quizzes, they are free points and will help out your grade. Study at least 3 hours before an exam (assuming that you are keeping up with the course) Attend class for pop quizzes. Take notes. Textbook is $10 (donation)

Although I did not get the grade I wanted in his class, I can assure you that he is one of the nicest people I have ever met. He is very down to earth, answers students' questions very politely, and most importantly, never make students feel bad for not knowing something. I really hope some teachers would learn from him how to treat students.

Leaver was an outstanding professor for Geography 101, you can tell he has a passion to teach this class. Quizzes were easy, Mid-term study for the A, Final study for the A. If you do not study it is possible to get a B but just read the eBook and go to the review sessions, you will get an A if you are somewhat smart. He drops 3 low quiz scores.

He's great! He gives three tests from the chapters read in each section and one final that is cumulative. If you work for the first two tests (like really well), you do kinda well on the third, and you do ALL of the homework: you'll pass with an A, easily. I didn't because I got lazy. But also if you do so-so on all the tests you can pass.

He is amazing, the easiest class ive ever had. He cares about your grade, doesnt want you to fail. The major things are the labs and he doesnt even check them. show up, do it in class, finish and leave. There are a couple of field trips but theyre fun, and also a group paper at the end but again very simple and easy. Tests are based on the labs.

I failed this lab class TWICE with other professors & finally passed with LEAVER. He truly is 1 in a million & really did try to make his exams as easy as he could. As long as you can perform the basic calculations he teaches such as converting Fahrenheit to Celsius or locating parts on an atlas you should do fine. He's very nice! Thanks again sir!

Amazing lectures, makes the class interesting. Down to earth, went on two field trips which were pretty fun, though i must admit he is a tough grader. For a 1 unit lab i must say i studied harder then my other 3 unit courses. I got an A at the end by studying the labs meticulously, two tests are based off labs, 1 weather sheet, 1 group paper.

Leaver is a genuinely nice man. He cares about his students and wishes the best upon all of them. He can go a little too fast while lecturing sometimes, but he doesn't mind repeating himself. He has some corny jokes. You can get most of the test info through the PPs. Lots of quizzes but he's very straightforward with all the info and gives guides.

Darren Leaver gives fair tests & "pop" quizzes (he warns you about almost all of them, gives free answers, allows group collaboration, and drops the 3 lowest). Professor Leaver reviews lectures in great detail and even provides a free online textbook he created for his students. All of the exams are based off of the textbook or lecture. He draws cool diagrams for his students to help them understand and he always has a positive mood while teaching! Visit him during office hours he's funny and cool!!!!!!!!

taking leavers class was probably the funnest class i have taken at GCC! however, you have to study heavily for the exams, if you do you will be fine. Quizzes are done on a regular basis. If it werent for the quizzes, attendance is not required at all since every power point presentation he does is on canvas. Again, highly recommend!

Honestly one of the best professors on campus, I'm not going to say it is an easy class you still have to study but overall he is passionate and funny. He made learning fun !

The best geography professor. He is awesome at lecture and if you listen in the class you will understand the class and get an A. PS. It helps if you are a Liverpool fan.

Not an easy A. Need to put a lot of effort on your own to get A. He is funny and a good lecturer. The tests are pretty much from his lecture and quizzes. it's a big class, so take notes do not miss a single quiz.

Leaver's an absolutely amazing professor. You can tell he's really passionate about what he teaches and he does a great job of simplifying everything. He's super generous with grades. There are pop quizzes but he allows you to discuss with students around you. I DEFINITELY recommend taking his class!!!!!

I got into his class not knowing anything but I came out loving geography. He puts so much effort into his lectures and is always trying to help his students to pass. There are 4 tests but you can drop the lowest one, and around 18 pop quizzes but you can drop the lowest three. Go through the study guide he gives and you'll get an A easily.

I found this class super interesting and his lectures to be enjoyable. Easy class in my opinion as long as you have a good study routine and keep up with everything you should easily get an A or a B. Make sure to show up to class or else that A/B grade is a lot harder to earn. One of the best favorite professors.

Just show up and its an easy A or B. Pop quizzes happen a lot but are not meant to trick you the questions are very basic and always based on lectures in class. He's a funny teacher with great lectures that help summarize a lot of the info in easy to understand drawings. We also got to use a notecard on the exams.

I really enjoyed his class and I appreciate him so much. Even though I am an international student and I have a little bit trouble with English, his lecture is clear and understandable. You don't have to buy a textbook. Use his original textbook. Quizzes are almost form his lectures, but if you want A, make sure read free textbook that he created.

Mr. Leaver breathed life into a subject a lot of people would find boring. He managed to make every class exciting to attend, both in part to the way he taught the material as well as the energy and optimism he brought into the room every day. It was a huge pleasure being his student.

Attendance in this class is required and the weekly quizzes are indicative of that. However, because of the pandemic this shouldnt be an issue. Professor Leaver explains the material extremely well and is more than willing to help anyone who doesnt understand. There are 3 exams in total and the final isnt cumulative. Be sure to study!!!

Professor Leaver is one of my favorite professors! He made the class very fun and made sure every point he made was clear for everyone. He was very entertaining and is super up front about pop quizzes and tests/quizzes. He is one of those professors that genuinely wants his students to do well and have fun and it definitely shows!

Literally my favorite professor in GCC, he's a really caring prof and as long as you try, you'll pass, he was amazing in accommodating to online after the covid thing.

Professor Leaver is a wonderful human being. even though it was hard for all of us during this pandemic but he did an incredible job by recording videos of his lectures. Loved him so much. I truly recommend to take his class.

One of the best professor I've had (if not the best) He really helped us out during this though semester. The class itself may be a bit challenging if you're not really into geography but Prof. Leaver will make sure you feel confident about the material .

Wether you take this course in person or online, it is worth taking! i look at earth so differently now. i was sad that the pandemic took away the opportunity for in class. professor is really caring and helps you understand the lectures. professor if youre reading this we all have to meet up for carne asada! take this course, study!

I took this class during COVID-19 and he was so fun and amazing. He's understanding and caring and gives you so many opportunities to succeed. He posts lecture videos, which are important to review for the 3 tests. He is always accessible outside and wants you to earn a good grade! Just show up, take notes and you'll be fine. My favorite Professor so far. His lectures are amazing, he explains so clear that you will never forget the answer. The class is easy , just take notes and read the slides. Watch hi videos and you will pass with your desired grade. Amazing person. I loved him so much. took his class during summer 2020. Highly recommend him. He is the best.

Ok I took this during the pandemic so it was online. I barely got an A with an 89% and here's why. The class has a crap ton of quizzes on his lectures, some you can look on google and some you need to see his lectures. I had around 18 quizzes but can drop 3. 3 tests, not easy to cheat since he makes the question, can't google all. Drop 1 test/final

Quizzes on each chapter w/ more than 1 opportunity to get it all correct. Exams are given in 3 chapter increments w/ 1 opportunity. Quizzes and exams are similar in wording and difficulty. Weekly discussions are easy. MUST watch lectures/read the free textbook or you will not pass the quizzes or exams. He will tell you everything you need to know.

A very good professor, easily one of the best at Glendale Community College. If he teaches Geo 107, I will take it with him. He supports his students very well and wishes the best for everyone. He is very caring and always asks for feedback on how to improve his online course because he understands the difficult times we are in right now.

i took this class online for 8 weeks. a LOT of material is covered each week. the discussions are fairly easy, just have to answer a question and then respond to one person. the quizzes are averaged out of 3. there are 3 tests, no final but it is difficult. you have to study and take notes if you wanna get a good grade because answers arent online

One of the best Professors! Really helpful and kind. Ha f you work hard, you can achieve everything you want. So just work and be ready for quizzes, discussions and exams.

Good Professor who always helps anyone who needs help. You just need to watch all his YouTube videos, PPT-s and read the textbook so that you can succeed all quizzes and exams. Discussions are easier but they are again from the chapter material.

Get ready to put in work. It was a great class and an awesome Professor, but you do have to make sure to make time to study. Not an easy A class. Due to being 8-week course, there are quizzes and discussion due weekly. With all that being said, it is not an impossible course just have to make sure you keep studying weekly not to miss anything.

Guys, I'm going to make this simple. It's an eight-week science transfer course. Trust me; he's better than most professors at GCC. The class is not easy. Each week you must read the textbook he wrote (free), watch the videos and go through the ppt. Don't try to take the easy way out. DO THE WORK, AND YOU WILL PASS.

I took this class online a year ago and Professor Leaver organized the class well. The lectures had most of the information and Professor Leaver was an entertaining and fun lecturer. Use the study guides!! They help prepare you for the tests really well.

The content of the course was pretty condensed and tedious but as a professor he seems like a pretty chill guy and is available if you need help.

Engaging lectures but be ready to put in the work. Utilize Unstuck AI alongside the textbook to ace the challenging exams. Grading is tough, but the content is valuable.

Honestly, the best professor. He interacts with the class in a way that makes even the hardest concepts easy to understand. If you actually read his PowerPoints and complete the outlines before each exam, you'll do great. Be prepared, there's a lot of material since it's an 8-week course, but it's totally manageable with his teaching style.

Took an accelerated version of this class online a few years ago and I loved it. Inspired me to take more Geography classes and I nearly switched my major. You want to have him as your professor, trust me. Especially if you're wary about science courses, or just want to enjoy what you're learning about.
