He's alright. Not the best, but definitely not the worst. He seems really quiet/shy for a PLS prof, or anyone who is into PLS for that matter.
He is a great teacher. He explains things so that we can understand the importance of it. He also seems to be very opinionated which I like. His class isn't that hard. He takes attendance but the work really isn't difficult. I would recommend him.
Good prof, good class. Very easy. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that grades were weighed totally on 3 exams. This made it harder to get above a B...
great, out spoken prof. knows his stuff. extremly well organized. this isn't an easy class because you, gasp, might actually have to do some reading. very fair grader.
He makes Politics interesting and you can tell it's his passion. Great guy and even better teacher.
great professor, staight forward tells you exactly what you need to know. Likes class discussion so be prepared to share on controversial issues.
Study exactly what is on the study guide and you will do fine. Fun class. Listen to how he says the word "particular" :)
haha, as my good friend points out - pay attention to the word "particular," it'll get you through class. Anyone good prof, willing to meet you and go over study guide, great attitude towards students, must study hard for tests! All the rest is
He has been my favorite professor so far. He gives you a study guide for the tests with everything that will be on it. It is important to go to class though because you need to take good notes. I would recommend this prof. to anyone.
Very professional, organized, and well mannered individual. He never tells you what his stance is on politics but this compliments the class by having an objective and unbiased prof. Show up, take notes, and bring your own thoughts.
I was pretty indifferent about this class going into it. Now it's one of my favorites, thanks to Prof. Walhof. He's really funny, and I really like how organized he is. I hope to take another one of his classes.
he is such a good professor, and you can tell he really cares about what he is teaching. he has that sense of humor that is so non chalant, he has the class laughing a lot. he is always willing to answer questions and really knows what he is talking about. he makes everything interesting and clear.
He's very intersting and lectures are easy to follow. He's a great professor, but tests are pretty difficult and the one page papers due each week are a huge hassle and are pretty hard. It's a good course, though.
Heck of a prof, makes me laugh about a subject i never pictured being funny, makes it easy to talk in his class, but tests are rather hard
Dr. Walhof is a terrific prof. I logged on to announce this but everyone else on the page has pretty much covered it. Highly recommended!
Great Prof. Highly recomend. Keeps class intresting and adds little bits of humor. Great class discusion.
Wow, going into it I wasn't thrilled about this class, but now I'm obsessed with politics. He makes it so interesting! Plus he when he wants to be he can be really funny. There is a little bit of work required, but its worth it. The exams aren't too bad if you just put in the effort to study.
Great Prof. Makes lectures interesting, the reading reflections are kinda of a drag. Offers extra credit. Recommended.
This is a very kind man. There is a reason why everyone rated him well. He keeps you in touch with what is going on in the media, and actually takes the time to learn everyone's names. Definitely take this prof. You will not regret it.
Very intelligent, helpful and friendly. I had no interest in politics prior to this class but I learned so much and even though the class was 2 hours long, I didn't fall asleep once! Definitely recommend him.
Best. Prof. Ever. Seriously. Always clear and well organized. Knowledgeable, interesting, and personable. Pay attention in class, participate in discussions, do the readings, and you'll do very well. Far and away the best Prof. I've had at GVSU.
Great teacher!!! Really good. Very helpful, very interesting. If he teaches any class take it!!!!
You are a fool for not taking this guy. He knows his stuff and definately brings humor to the table. Yeah you also better pay attention in class or you will fall behind he likes to challenge you.
I really enjoyed Professor Walhof. He doesn't make his class too easy and will challenge you, but he also makes himself available to students. His lectures are interesting and he's really funny. He grades kind of hard, but he's a really nice guy anyway.
I loved this class. Totally changed my view about the world. Walhof is the coolest. Definitely take him. He knows all this stuff and encourages students to do well. In addition you catch the bug and wanna take more political thought.
lots of small papers to write, and the exams are big on essays and short answer! need to study concepts, and take lots of notes.
First, he is adorable. Second, he cares about his students. He is challenging and forces you to think about, dissect, and understand concepts that appear hard at first. Anyone who breathes should take his 232 class to understand the world!
Good prof
Walhof is great. He is funny and easy going, but he challenges you. He does NOT give out an easy A, but you will get so much out of the class it will make up for the difficulty. Just remember to READ!!!
I loved this class, and I hate political thought. You should definitely take Professor Walhof whenever you can, he's basically the man.
I hate this guy. A lot. Seriously...and I think I am the only one who can't stand him, but I don't care. He drives me nuts.
I still can't decide if I liked him or not. I hated the class- especially since we were the only LIB 100 class that I know of with a final- and a short answer/essay final at that. Class was boring and I'm not sure what the point of it was. I would recommend a different prof for lib 100!!
This prof is excellent. He has a great sense of humor and makes class interesting. Take him whenever you can.
Lib was the most boring class ever, but Walhof is a great guy. Classes were discussion based and assignments were interesting. The final was all essay format but he gave us the questions which made it easy. I want to take political science classes to be in one of his classes again.
Amazing teacher. Take him whenever possible. Truly cares about his students. His class is no easy A, but if you work hard and work with him you can pull it off.
Not a good class to take if you don't have tons of time to put into it. LOTS of reading and LOTS of writing. I ended up having to withdrawl because i couldn't keep up. He's a good prof though, readings were boring but class was usually interesting. Just make sure you have the time.
If you have to take LIB 100, take Walhof! You probably won't love LIB itself, but he is funny, really knows his stuff, passionate, willing to help and explain everything. You're going to have to read, but if you're taking a class you don't want to take, at least have a prof you can enjoy. You're going to have to think, but you'll live.
Awesome prof. He's a very good lecturer and is interesting and relates info to every day life. Must write a 1 page essay once a week, two big essays, and an exam. Very easy to talk to and very helpful. You can even give him your essays and he will give you feedback on them before the final grade. Lots of reading assigned, but I skimmed most of it.
awesome teacher... i would take any class that he teaches. you get so much out of this class, he really makes you think.
No other professor I've taken combines such a command of the material with an ability to thoughtfully engage students. It's like some sort of drug for critical thinking skills. You'll be addicted!
I had some misconceptions about this guy. he is an awesome professor, who knows just about everything about the subject. the class is not easy, but he makes you want to do well. take this professor.
Awesome professor! He's tough, but if you go to class and take notes, you're golden. He's really funny, too!
I loved Him! He is funny, obviously really smart, and pretty cute in a cute/dorky way. His tests are broad, and dont always stick to just the book and his lectures, they are a little more abstract. Show up and speak up, and he will like you!
Best Prof At Grand Valley
Extremely Knowledgeable. Subject Matter would be much less interesting if he did not teach it. Funny, Interesting, and fair. Highly Recommended!
Great prof! Lectures are very clear and notes are extremely helpful for paper-writing. It's not an easy subject to understand, but he does a great job explaining the texts and getting students to think! Plus he is SO smart and cute!
Best prof. at GV. Easily. Brilliant, helpful, and funny, but don't expect it to be easy. You'll have to read and you'll have to write, but it's 100% worth it. If I can sit through a 3 hour SWS class and have to write a short paper every week and still be excited to go to class ever time, someone's doing something right.
Professor Walhof is the most interesting teacher I have ever had. He is extreamely intelligent and interesting. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
I've had him for a few classes and I absolutely love him. You have to work hard, but he makes you love the material, you'll be glad you put in the effort. Lectures are extremely clear, if you take good notes in class you will do well on the papers and the exam. Possibly my favorite prof. in my 4 years at GV.
He is by far the best teacher I have. He is extremely nice, helpful and understanding. TAKE HIM!!!
Most AMAZING PROFESSOR EVER! his extremelly passionate about the things he is teaching so it pulls you in and makes you be part of discussions, etc. He makes class interesting and fun, it goes by very fast. AWESOME prof
He is awesome! Although the class wasn't a breeze and you definitely needed to study, his passion for the subject makes the class totally worthwhile. He's a super nice, approachable prof, and I'd recommend him for anyone!
He was a great professor! He made Modern Political Thought interesting! A discussion paper is due every week, but they really helped me understand the readings! My biggest piece of advice...Take of advantage of the help he offers you on the bigger papers, I took the initiative to visit him in his office and it definitely paid off!!! Take this Prof!
Dr. Walhof somehow manages to make political theory interesting. Don't ask me how!? Hard grader, but very clear and helpful outside of class.
Awesome, just awesome -- interesting so what would be hard seems easy
Great teacher. Knows his material inside and out. Read and pay attention in class and you'll be fine. He's also very approachable
Funny prof. Will touch on current events just for fun. Kind of easy in grading papers. Encourages class discussion. Assigns fair amount of reading per week.
Fairly strict but approachable teacher. Absolutely hates texting/technology in class. He required reading and a summary for nearly every class and expects there to be a thorough discussion every class. Knows the material and very approachable and understands that not all students "Get" the material.
Great Professor but come to class ready to learn because its guaranteed that you will. A lot of reading but Walhof does a great Job of explaining. Very interesting though and you learn a lot. Make sure to put a lot of work and time into your papers if you want a decent grade
Makes political thought interesting... some how. You can tell Walhof is really invested in his studies and his expertise exceeds a lot of other professors in the prospective fields. Be prepared to read a lot, not horrible but Walhof goes over everything with clarity so its easier to comprehend. Generally can answer every question presented to him.
Professor Walhof makes Politics and government interesting! Real approachable prof. - great teaching skills. Crystal clear lectures. I am not a political science major, but he is definitely a MUST TAKE!
Professor Walhof is a nice guy but the lectures are pretty dry. Be prepared to write quite a few reflection papers.
Professor Walhof quickly became my favorite professor at GVSU. He is extremely interested in his students understanding of the material. Instead of lecturing, he often directs class discussion. In doing so students are able to apply what they are learning to just about any topic they would like to discuss.
Wish there was more professors at GV like Walhof. Knows the material and can teach it. Friendly guy. He makes politics fun. Exams are fair. Notes are handwritten / no lecture slides. I would take again!
Great Prof! Makes going to class worth it! A lot of work with the 10 short responses that are credit/no credit. Everyone should take this prof :))
Amazing professor
Good guy
Dang. Lots of reading n writing, not exactly easy, but this guy knows his stuff and if you pay attention and participate in the class, you will learn A LOT.
Walhof is a great professor. Knows the material forward and back. Is always ready to answer student's questions. Is fair and is a tough grader but makes sure you know the material. If you want to learn a lot take his class. He is also really funny.
Only two papers and an exam. Very willing to help and get feedback on papers. Very funny and one of the best teachers I've had at GVSU! I would definitely take him again!
I loved this class! He's a great teacher and you can tell that he's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what he's teaching. You have to do that readings or you will be completely lost. This is heavily discussion oriented, so if you arent willing to talk, dont bother taking this class. For everyone else, I highly recommend this class!
Walhof is the best professor I have had. Although the class did not appeal to me prior to taking it, his passion for the course was contagious. He was clear, helpful and had a great sense of humor. I highly recommend taking him if you have an interest in Political Thought/Politics, but be prepared for a LOT of writing, reading and interpretation.
Love Walhof. Class was a bit difficult but he loves to elobaorate more if you need to. Just ask. Meet with him for your papers!! Also, please marry me :)
Really helpful, will meet with you for every paper. The best prof. I have had thus far at GVSU, great sense of humor, and his brain is amazing!!!
Professor Walhof is one of the smartest and most interesting professors at GVSU. He seems to really understand how to explain topics to students in a way that makes you interested and involved. Hands down my favorite professor at the University and everyone should have the chance to take his classes.
Incredibly smart professor who knows his stuff, and is always willing to answer questions. Largely a discussion-oriented class, and you'll get more out of it if you talk. Reading summaries, two 5-page papers, and a cumulative final. Attendance isn't mandatory, but a reading summary is due each period (worth 25% of your final grade total).
Very knowledgeable professor who is very well-spoken in the area of constitutional law. The class is quite a bit of work, with in-class participation and doing the reading assignments both are a must if you want to do well. Three tests, seven case briefs, a case project, and a participation evaluation makeup your grade. Awesome course; I recommend.
My favorite professor I've had at GVSU. His lectures are really great and easy to understand and he opens class up to discussion that often furthers to explain concepts. Lots of reading and a notecard reading summary is due every class for 20% of the grade. Two papers and a final, not the easiest class but worth it if you want to put in the work.
One of the best professors I've had so far at GVSU. He knows the topic extremely well and is awesome at explaining everything in a way that makes sense. His lectures are interesting and it's one class that I don't skip and am actually bummed if I miss it. I always leave feeling like I learned a lot, which makes the assignments more fun than work.
Best professor ever. His lectures are amazing and he makes the materially crystal clear and enjoyable to learn. I thought I was going to hate the class, but after just two weeks he had me loving it. Best professor at GVSU and a great guy.
Walhof is a tremendous and very well-liked professor with a great sense of humor. He manages to take a very dry topic (constitutional law) and make it so interesting that it will leave you wishing on some days that class time wasn't up. He'll happily explain things in different ways if you have questions and never talks down to students.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PROF. By far my favorite during my College.
Ok prof. I wish there was more time given at the beginning to go over law vocab, as he expects you to understand how to read court cases right away, but thats just me. Nice enough guy, passionate about this, but I wish it was structured differently. Learn how to brief a court case before this class -he doesnt explain it and its 20% of your grade
Prof. Walhof is one of the best professors at GVSU. He is extremely organized and presents information in a way that allows for discussion, though makes sure that all important things are covered. Truly, he is one of the best professors I have had. Make sure to go to his office so that he can go over your paper with you. Also nice to talk with.
Absolutely the best professor at GVSU. He really pushes you to learn and expand your thinking. I really looked forward to his class and often didn't want it to end. I can't say enough good things about this professor, if you are able to, TAKE HIM!
Dr. Walhof is a tough grader, but he makes his guidelines pretty clear so you know what to expect and he's also willing to meet with students outside of class to discuss assignments. His lectures were engaging and he explains texts in a way that makes sense. Class participation & attendance are key to doing well.
Walhof is the man. You learn so, so much by taking him. Hes incredibly smart, and answers your questions no matter how dumb. You have 12, 1 page case briefs to do over the semester. Theyre easy, but require a lot of reading. Tests arent too bad if you use the study guide. Group project at he end is a pain. Hopefully youll get a good group.
Modern Political Thought was probably the hardest class I've taken up to date, in part due to the high expectations of Prof Walhof. He is an amazing lecturer and genuinely cares about students learning, which is great, but it was a lot of material and felt overwhelming at times. The final is short and long essay writing and very hard to study for.
Walhof is an absolute genius. His lectures are interesting and engaging. He is able to make difficult and confusing concepts from political thinkers make sense. With that being said, the class is one of the hardest I've taken at GVSU. He has high expectations, grades very hard, and his final is extremely difficult and time consuming to study for.
By far the most inspirational prof. Tough class, but it was so worth the knowledge that was gained.
Professor Walhof is a great professor! He will make you work hard in his class and push your thinking but it is for your benefit! I really enjoyed his class and he is very caring towards his students.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had the pleasure of having. Super knowledgable, awesome lectures, can make even the most dry material seem fascinating. He is super engaged with his students and will answer any question, no matter how dumb. Be prepared to do a lot of reading and some tough exams.
GOAT teacher
Genuinely cares about students and is very understanding. The course content appears intimidating, but Walhof teaches it in a way that makes it much easier to understand. Course is graded on two papers, journal entries, and a final exam. 10/10 would recommend him to anyone studying political science at Grand valley.
Seriously is great at making even the worst pls theorists easy to learn and is very knowledgable about them, very honest too and admits when he doesn't know (definitely ASK QUESTIONS); only thing that sucks is the paper peer reviews and the final is a little harder than expected. Definitely see him for your paper; he is a tough grader for them.
Absolute King. Walhof is hands down the best professor I have ever had. Funny, caring, engaging, accessible, just the works.
This class has the possibility to be very dry and boring, but Professor Walhofs presentation of the material is both interesting and engaging. You can tell he truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He is kind, approachable, funny, and extremely intelligent.
Prof Walhof is a good person but I hated the class. Reading requirements are excessive and hard to understand. He has very high expectations and grades tough especially on papers. The class was just stressful with the reading as you're expected to reflect on it in class, in papers, and in journals. Overall, high expectations and tons of work.
Best professor in the Political Science department. Understands other worldviews and encourages diversity of opinion. Holds students to appropriate standards. An A is not easy but is attainable. Professor Walhof understands and explains very abstract ideas in clear terms.
I love Walhof. You indeed earn/work for your A. He encourages all opinions, trails of thought, and questions. He makes you feel seen and heard, and he is full of warm wisdom. He does hold his students to high standards, but I think this is the kind of professor who makes you better and sets you up for the "real" world. Take it if you want to learn.
Professor Walhof pushes you to work hard, but it's worth it. He makes abstract ideas clear and encourages diverse opinions. Unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the readings.
