I liked the class a lot. He's a good professor who knows what he's doing.

Professor Butkos makes learning about 71238012837837 minerals fun. You can feel at ease asking him about the work. If you need extra help, he offers it. I'm warning you, this class isn't as easy as you think it is. You need to do the work & read the text.

He is a smart guy and he really tries to help you to understand this stuff. I am not a science student but I really enjoyed working with Prof. Butkos. If you have to take a science class, I would take him.

I really enjoy coming to this class, prof. B knows his stuff and he makes sure that you understand it too. He worked in the real world before becoming a prof, so he has interesting stories about work experiences, and he is cute!!!!!!!!!

I LOVED THIS CLASS! EXTREMLY FUN & INTERESTING AND PRETTY EASY. The best professor to have by far! Made things really simple, his tests were pretty easy, the homework wasn't too painful and he was an awesome person all together! Highly recommended!

Prof. B. is the best, and he is kinda funny too. I still don't think rocks are as cool as he says they are but he really did help me learn alot. jon stewart......maybe. but, i think he looks and sounds like kevin costner. anyway, if you have to take a science class, take prof. b. HE ROCKS !!!!!!

learning about rocks kinda sucks but butkos' class is fun . tests are hard but read and do the work you will do fine and hey he's kinda cute!!!

He is funny! As long as you do the homework and pay attention you'll do fine in this class.

Prof. B was my geology prof. 8 years ago, now i am a science teacher & I really owe my success to him. He was so cool he inspired me to be a teacher too. He helped me when I was his student & he still helps me whenever I contact him with a question. He really does enjoy working with the students.

what a hottie....i'd do him......if only he would stop talking about those damn rocks. he is a great prof., he likes his students and he enjoys working with them. if you have to take a science, and we all do. i would take him.....and like i said, he is cute!

Was the first professor I ever had in college lol. He managed to keep me awake in an 8am science class, no easy task. The work is somewhat difficult but he is very very helpful and he is extremely approachable. Great guy, all teachers should be like him

tough class, great professor. do the readings and study the notes. he gives many tests and quizes, so you have lots of chances to prove you have been paying attention and learning. i have taken other science classes here and he is by far the most considerate and down to earth prof around. butkos really is the way to go!!

i took prof. butkos in my last semester at sccc and in my 3 years here, he is the only prof. that gave me the grade i truly earned,to bad it was a "D+". most of my other profs. kinda let me coast through and get B's. as bizarre as it sounds, he is probably the prof. i like the most. i think he sincerely likes his students and tries to help them.

definitely hott. hes a very good teacher, he gets really excited about what he's teaching which is great. The class is a little hard but thats what college is about right? :)

this class is great i would tell everybody to take it, it's easy and interesting. but dont get to excitied he's not so hot... the only reason why people think he's hot is because in my telecourse it's all adults and those ladies love him anyway he is a great guy and he's really easy to understand if you do your work you'll do great on all the tests

study the notes, do the readings and you will be okay. he always helped me study my notes. just go to see him after class or during office hours. he really tries to help. i would recommend him!!

he enjoys working with the students and he really likes what he is teaching. he is the reason i want to be a science teacher. he really makes it fun. it is not an easy class, but he gives lots of help if you need it.

This was the telecourse so it was very fast in class. We did most of the work at home. Nice guy, but I don't think he is hot. He is certainly knowledgeable in Geology. I thought the class was ok and would recommend him.

Awesome professor. Very supportive and will do anything if you need help. There are 6 tests 3 lab and 3 lec. All tests are extremely hard..... If you read all the assignments and do all the questions at the end of the chapter which there are like 80 the whole year you will do ok. One of the best professors at SCC def keeps you up and focused

Tough class, but this Prof has a great personality and is very willing to help and always willing to talk to you before or after class. Take good notes, cause that is where the test questions come from. He also puts all of his notes online. Sometimes it is hard to pay attention because he has the most AMAZING BLUE EYES !!!!

Topics are relly hard, his tests are really hard and require detail when answering the multilple choice. If you like geo this is the class for you if not pick another science. Powerpoint pres are good just alot of material to memorize for the test, labs def blow soo boring if it was just the lecture it would be better

This guy literally saved my life. I was going thru some bad stuff, my friends & parents were useless. I needed someone to talk to. I was reluctant to talk to prof. B, cause my grades were horrible & I was embarrassed. He was great though, he listened & helped me put things in perspective. I will probably fail his class, but he is the best!!

While I felt intimidated by him the first day of class I came to realize he is a very sincere, and well spoken teacher. He can joke around with his students all he wants but in the end you need to do the work, and you need to do it well. If you do, you will do well, if you don't, well.. you wont.

Smart man. I guess if you have to take a science class, this is the one to take. He is really approachable and truly a fun guy to spend a few hours with every week. Kinda nice to look at too!

this guy is living proof that scientist do not have to be boring, arrogant geeks. he is intelligent, animated and a pretty decent guy. the class is way hard, but, it is a science class, what do you expect. print out his on-line notes, listen to him while he lectures, do the reading and homework and you will get through the class.

This guy Rocks my socks! I liked science, but don't spend hours longing to learn about it. He makes class fun, it goes by soo fast and I actually learn something. I can 100% name rocks and minerals.There are about 3-4 tests and labs are easy!

Teacher is great. Just keep up with the work and study for the exams. The teacher is very helpful and very intertaining.

Amazing professor! Topics are interesting whether or not you are a science major, or just need credit. He is intelligent and very creative. Only bad science professor in suffolk is a guy with the last name Mandia

probably my favorite prof ever. hard class,i will most likely fail, but its not his fault.i just goofed off too much. if i fail, i will certainly try geology again with him next semester. i totally recommend him. my girlfriend thinks he is hot, i think he would be a cool dude to go drinking with.

This cat is for real. Smart, funny and totally enjoys working with the students. The material is hard, lots of reading and studying. just do the work and you will be okay. He reminds me of my dad, they both run marathons and are both neurotic, compulsive and dorkey......in a cool way!

Butkos is so knowledgable and truly keeps everyone interested. he is very helpful and relates to all his students and does not try to act superior over his students he very cool laid back guy

Really laid back class environment. He gas notes on website as well as at lecture. Doesn't care much if you're absent. 3 lecture exams, 3 lab exams, along with an optional final exam make up your grade. Really cool teacher, probably the best I've had at Suffolk.

Honestly this is one of the best classes I have taken at Suffolk. He has all his power points online so I print them out before hand and just listen to lecture. He gives you a "cheat sheet" for lab exams. Really laid back and easy going

Great professor. extremely laid back, explains EVERYTHING clearly for everyone to understand, his tests are directly from what he teaches and what he assigns, and the labs are very straight forward. i took the "hybrid" class, which meets every other week, and was by far the best choice. It says its a 4 hour class but it never lasts that long!

He is an awesome teacher! He is not there to make students fail. His tests are straight forward because it is based on the homework and notes. However, if you don't study and attend his lectures, you will fail. BEST GEOLOGY TEACHER EVER!

Dude is awesome! The class is not easy, so don't be fooled by his casual & laid back demeanor. His tests are thorough & if you do not pay attention & review the notes you will not do well. But he is such a cool guy, we all had a great time in his lab sessions. If you are having difficulty with the material, go to his office & work with him.

Not an easy class, I only got a "C", but I had such a great time! I looked forward to attending his classes. He is very intelligent, but not arrogant. He makes the students feel comfortable & his very approachable. I was dealing with drama at home & work. Butkos always listened to me vent about all the crap going on in my life, such a good guy!

Interesting class, but not easy. You need to pay attention & take notes. Dude is entertaining so don't mind sitting thru the lectures/labs. We had this annoying kid that was late constantly; butkos put up with it all semester, but at the end of the semester, the kid walks in late & asks a STUPID question, & butkos went off on him. IT WAS AWESOME!

Good class and a funny guy. Not easy, but since we have to take science anyway, you might as well take it with someone that is kinda funny and sorta cool.

He explains everything very well and very in depth. He may sound repetitive at times, but it helps you to remember everything. Interesting guy with lots of knowledge and cool stories. Lecture exams are a mixture of bluebook and multi choice. Lab exams can be tricky so make sure to study for them. No need to by the text, he posts all notes online.

I had butkos last semester and I did not realize how good he was until I started my science classes this semester. butkos' class was tough, but he gave good notes, answered your questions, seemed to enjoy working with his students and he was kinda cute, nerdy and funny. my science prof. this semester is an absolute nightmare!

He's a great guy. He basically outlines his tests for you in his power points (which are available online) and in lecture. More than willing to help his students. Gives "cheat sheets" for lab exams. If you're having some difficulties he's a very easy teacher to talk to and he will accommodate you.

Overall a great and funny guy, but his class can be challenging if you don't pay attention. If he sees you try hard enough and you genuinely care about the class, he will cut you some slack. Out of all the science professors I do recommend him though, he posts all his notes on his website which is helpful. Also he's also pretty good looking :)

If you are a self-motivated student who will read and review material assigned on your own, try the Hybrid Geology class with this professor. It meets 7 times total, there is a minimal amount of math, and it turns out to be pretty interesting. The professor is very helpful and more than fair. Perfect class for the non-science major.

Smart guy, but not an arrogant know it all. He is funny & good looking too. He creates a relaxed atmosphere in the classroom. His notes are all online & he was always willing to answer questions. He saw me & my friends in the union one day & sat down & chatted with us. It was very cool & my friends were impressed that a prof. would do that.

I am taking the Hybrid version of the course.There is quite a bit of work, & you need to commit time to get through the homework, readings & lab projects. The class is very well organized, the material is presented well & Butkos entertaining as hell! i laugh during every class. This is not an easy class, but I would totally recommend this class.

Professor was great. very helpful and funny and made the class interesting. The work outline for the course was set up very nicely and you knew exactly what was expected of you. I would recomomend this course to other students.

Really sweet guy and very interesting class. Butkos is a very smart guy but totally down to earth. If you need help, don't hesitate to visit office hours and stay after class, he will try his best to accommodate you! Tough tests if you don't study, but if you put in the effort you should be fine. If you are a self motivated learner that is willing to put in the time, TAKE THIS CLASS! Butkos' ratings speak for themself. He's a motivating educator with a bonus; he's a geologist by trade. I definitely don't regret this class- I regret taking it sooner!

I don't like science & have been putting off taking it until my last semester. I really lucked out with Prof. B., the class is not easy, there is quite a bit of work, but I actually like this guy & he seems to like the students, and is always helpful when you ask questions. He has a decent sense of humor, he makes me laugh in every class.

Read the text, pay attention in lecture, participate in the labs, study/show up for tests and lab exams, you can get an A. He's enthusiastic and makes his lectures interesting and clear (though if you need clarification, he's happy to provide it) and adds humor. Definitely an awesome professor.

I took Butkos Earth Science class in Spring 2012 as the last class i needed for graduation.. this guy is intimidating first day but he is very straight forward.. if you go along with his program and put a little bit of time towards studying his class is an very easy course!

Prof Butkos is awesome. If you show up and pay attention you shouldn't have a problem getting an A. As long as you show up on lab day and try the lab you get a 100 lab average regardless of how poor you do on in class labs. Let's you use the past labs on lab exams and has an optional final of 100 mult choice that replaces your lowest test grade.

Tough class, but excellent Prof. The lectures r interesting & he is a very casual type of guy. However, exams r tough. He is very cool about lab work. He understands that students struggle doing the labs, & he is ok with that, just complete the lab, you will get credit for it. he will go over the labs later to make sure u have all the correct info

he loves talking about geology & hydrogeology & he knows his stuff. kind of a cute sexy science geek . sometimes he wears jeans & field boots to class & it is very hot!! this is not an easy class. but all of his powerpoint notes are online & his tests are based on those notes. listen to his lectures, study the powerpoints and you will be fine.

Tough class with lots of material. Science is not my thing at all. This guy is actually very nice. Seems sincerely interested in helping students & is not an arrogant jerk like many other profs. He also helped me with my other coursework. He has a good sense of humor, has a bit of OCD, & he usually says or does something funny in every class.

This is one of the best classes I have ever taken. I am switching majors because of this class. Be prepared for a lot of information, but it is extremely interesting and professor B explains everything extremely well. Need to study, but there is an optional cumulative final that will replace your lowest exam grade. Highly recommend this class!

I do not like science, but I like this guy. I am struggling to get through the class, Prof. B is helping me, & he seems to care. I will probably get a C, possibly a C+. Honestly I have worked less in other classes & gotten an "A". There is a lot of material to learn in a science class, & I think I am lucky I got this guy. I would recommend him!

FAVE PROFESSOR I'VE HAD SO FAR. Your class depends on you really because he gives you everything you need to pass and he's always willing to help. Hes hilarious and is passionate about what he teaches.

Professor Butkos was a great professor and somehow managed to make rocks an interesting topic. He's super passionate about geology and is extremely knowledgable about everything. His tests were easy as long as you study. He reviews before every test, and there's an optional final at the end of the year. Definitely would recommend his class.

Hes an excellent teacher. He made class very interesting and I left everyday learning something new. He was an engineer prior to working at Suffolk and now thats what I want to do! Would definitely take again!

I ended up having to take his class twice because I dropped out the first time due to health reasons. I have zero regrets taking the hybrid class was the best way to finish a science credit. He's an awesome professor and he makes something as boring as geology fun and exciting he had me considering my career choices

I took the Blended, so we only had 7 meetings. It was lots of independent work, many tests & I spent a ton of time doing the work. I really liked the guy, I wish I had taken his class during the day instead of the course at night. I think he is a very good teacher, & I know it would have been less stressful if I had more classroom time with him.

I go to binghamton & needed a science, I took a class w/Butkos this summer. He's a smart & easy going guy. Class was Blended, so u do most of the work independently. Just meet for exams & to prep for lab projects. It's lots of work, but a great way to get a science course. If ur willing to work, its a great class. I really liked the dude!

I really liked this guy. I was part of a National Science Foundation Grant program & spent the geology week with Profs. Butkos & Tvelia. They are both very smart & nice. I am changing my major to geology because of Butkos. He is interesting, knows lots about groundwater & now I am very interested in water & protecting our aquifers.

I'm taking Environmental Geology & I like this Prof. a lot. He is really smart, but not an arrogant jerk or a confusing geek like other Profs. He worked in the field as an engineer before he became a Prof., so he has great stories & experiences to share. The class is NOT easy, but it is very interesting. He seems to actually care about his students

I really liked this guy. The class was tough with lots of material to learn. His exams are not easy, but not insane hard. Understand your notes and you will be fine. His labs are not too hard, and he does a review of the labs before the exam. I may actually become a science teacher because he showed me that science doesn't really suck!

Hes very laid back and funny. We cover a lot of material but I suck in the sciences and got an easy A. I studied an hour before the tests and lecture exams which copy the power points. He underlines and stars all the questions hes going to ask on the tests and you leave early on exam days. I was basically never there. Optional TF 50q final, easy

I'm taking a remote class with Prof. B during the pandemic. He is my only prof. that streams his lectures live. He is chatting & writing on his whiteboard twice a week, & I love it. I miss going to college & attending classes. Seeing him & having him ask us questions reminds me that I am still a college student. There is lots of work though!

This professor actually has me enjoying attending our online classes. He is very clear on what he teaches and what will be on upcoming exams. He is very considerate and takes pride in what he teaches. He gives 2-3 assignments over a 1-2 week span which are not very difficult at all and if you need assistance, he will gladly clarify things for you!

Loved Professor Butkos! I had him for IntrotoGeology Spring2021 online. He writes on his whiteboard and gives out great notes and other interesting information which I enjoy. The way he explains things are simple, but helpful. His class really taught me a lot and is making me consider a career in geology. Taking another class with him next sem.

This class was great given the amount of material that needed to be covered. There is a homework and lab assignment due every week. Your grade is based on six tests you take throughout the semester. He is a good teacher and he truly wants everyone to pass. Attend each lecture if you dont want to be behind.

My only Prof. that cared enough to meet us online & stream his lectures live twice a week during the pandemic. He had a whiteboard & was lecturing, asking questions & assigning homework. I loved the guy & I learned a lot, even though I was relaxing in bed & watching him on my lap top. I'm taking him again next semester!

This guy is amazing! I am not a science person but he almost had me convinced I should become a geologist! Super fun and easy class! If you have to take a lab science definitely take him.

Professor Butkos was a good professor as long as you stay on top of the amount of work he assigns you should be fine. I took his class online however he was really engaging and explained things in a good way even if youre not super into science like I am. Overall I would recommend Professor Butkos if you have to take a science class. Cool guy.

He's a caring and kind professor who wants his students to succeed. If you attend class regularly and are a good student he will accept the occasional missed assignments. Lectures are a must if you miss one you are lost. Studying for his test is tough but the test are never too hard except for the second one. Overall a great guy and moderate class

I think if you have to take a science class this is on of the best options. There is a lot of homework and 3 Lecture and 3 lab tests. But you can take a optional final to replace one of your lecture grades. Also you get a free 100 on a lab test if u complete and hand in all the labs.

I took a hybrid version of this class where we had to turn in homework every week. The textbook is "not required" but I recommend buying it if you plan on actually learning the material since the slideshows are not very informative.

Professor Butkos genuinely cares about student success. The class has a decent workload but is manageable if you engage with the material. unstuckstudy and the free textbook are great study aids.

Professor Butkos truly cares about his students and is an amazing professor. I loved the hybrid option and would suggest it to anyone else.
