This is a very easy class and a very easy A. The prof is a very nice man, he reminded me of my grandpa. The tests are easy, but the lectures arent too exciting.
His lectures are interesting and he's funny (lots of tongue in cheek humor), but the tests are hard if you're new to art. It really helps to spend some time looking at pictures of the art every day to do well on the tests. He uses blackboard!
Do not take him unless you are an art major!! His test are extremely hard and he doesn't make clear what will be on the test. The test are so bad that we usually have a 30 piont curve. Our class average for the class is 72.3 and that is with the curve!
If new to art then clas will be hard, good memory is required for this class, readings are long! Attendance policy is harsh. Do not recommend, unless you really love art.
great teacher.
Good professor, not THAT hard of a class. Attendance is taken with assigned seating. 2 Critical reviews required and 5 tests. Tests are curved GREATLY, outline/notes are provided along with TA reviews before a test, can be an easy A if you try
Covers too much material for exams
Good professor.Humorous.If good attendance is a problem don't take him as he will penalize you for excess absences. Test are 25 multiple choice. Half over facts from the lecture, half recognizing works of art. 2 papers where you review some sort of art. Do as he asks in the paper and youll get an A.
He's very helpful outside class. The beg. of the course is really easy(i had over a 90 for the 1st 3 tests). For the 2 papers, do exactly what he says & you will get an A+.Last 2 tests are very difficult & cover way too much material.Attendance is required & there's assigned seats. overall very good.
Good teacher. I enjoyed this class.
hes old and his tests are hard. didnt like his class at all. he sucks!!!
I cannot stress to you enough: DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS PROF! He is an arrogant, pretentious man who takes pleasure from his students' failures, which occur often due to his complete incompetency as a professor. He does know his subject but he is not interested in helping you learn it.
his lectures are confused versions of what the book says, which isnt very well written to begin with. hes kind of arrogant and rude. horrible teacher. if youve taken your art history classes this class will be easy for you. but even then i wouldnt sit through his lectures again if you paid me.
His lectures are one of the boringest things you will ever have to sit through. His test cover very little from the notes. Go to the reviews before the test and study pictures from the book and from class and you should make a least a B without a lot of effort, but he does take attend. He tries to
This is the worst prof in the world. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. He does not have concern for you as a student what so ever. He is rude and arrogant to talk to outside of class. He puts the wrong due dates on the syllibus and expects you to know that the paper is due sooner.
If you wish to lower your GPA this is the teacher to take!!!! He does not care about his students and makes very rude/arrogrant comments. Only way to get through the class is to go to the review!Look for another art teacher, I hear there are plenty of other good ones--wish I would have known sooner!

Don't take him
This prof. has no regard for his students whatsoever. He feel the need to be condescending and very rude toward his students. The reviews are the best way to guarantee a decent grade. However, if possible take this class with someone else.
I don't know, but I liked him. I actually learned alot about art history, but I did go to every class and all the reviews. I made an A with an average amount of effort. Some people think he's rude, but I found it funny. I think he's just trying to amuse himself when he thinks no one is listening. lol.
This Man SUCKS!!
This prof was the worst I have ever had! He is so rude and does not care about his students whatsoever. Do not take him.
He's very condescending toward his students. Every question is stupid to him. He is not a good teacher, has no people skills. Class would be more enjoyable with another prof. who is less of a pompous ass.
Very rude and pretentious...definately go to the study sessions and use his art reviews online or you will most likely fail.
This guy is horrible. I dont know he got a job teaching. And he's an @## . you fill in the blank.
He's not helpful, I wanted to change seats because I was put in a left hand seat and he told me if I moved I would be counted absent. Also, he doesnt know what he is talking about and when a student asked a question he started talking about how we dont lis
The best move you can make with this professor is not to take him at all. He is pretentious, arrogant ****.
This guy has to be the biggest hack on campus. He makes art about as inspiring as putting up drywall. The sheer rudeness and contempt he has for students is staggering. This man should not teach anything. Never take him. Worst. Professor. Ever.
Avoid like the plague. Disrespectuful and unhelpful. Spends as much time ridiculing the class as he does teaching. Take a course from this man and you will regret it.

He used the wrong grading master three times on the same test. 80% of the class failed and he said every time that we were the stupid ones. He's bad at his job, he needs to go. Don't take him.

I sugesst looking for another techer this guy is a uncaring, a unhelpful guy with a stick in his ass not to mention that he is a DR. in the subject!!!
D this O professor U is C a H horrible E teacher. B absolutely A no G consideration for students. (by the way, read between the lines, its the god-honest truth). for the sake of your sanity and your gpa alike, get someone else.....
I am an art major and he even made me hate art history. On the tests he puts up random images of art, he never mentioned or went over, and expects you to know who did them and in what art period. Unless psychic do not take class.
he is the hardest teacher to listen to because he is so boring!!!! His tests are reaaly hard and tricky!
He's a horrible professor. I took him one fall and dropped because I was gonna get a D, I re-took the class with another professor and got an A easily. I mean come one its an art class. If you have any other option go with it, you'll thank yourself in the long run. Or take music history instead
He's not a bad person, he just sucks at teaching. He could care less whether or not you pass.
HE IS AWFUL! I dropped it even though I would not get my money back because I could not stand to listen to him anymore.
I HOPE HE GETS FIRED..horrible..HORRIBLE..DO NOT TAKE HIM.. hes teachings are all from a biased point of view..totally do yourself a favor and ur gpa
This is an entry level course, a freshman level course, yet he teaches it like it's a senior level course for Art History majors. He is unfair and tries to trick his students. He sets you up to fail. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
He is a terrible prof!! He tried to fail us all!
I hate this man. He is the worst teacher I have ever come across. He is unhelpful, mean, and will put anyone to sleep. Avoid him at all costs.
This guy is definition of BORING. I honestly fell asleep every other class and I was running on two or three red-bulls each morning. For the sake of your happiness and stress level please....do not take this class.
I really like him, I don't care what other people say, he is a good teacher. Of course it is difficult, it's art HISTORY..... not art. DUH. And as for fairness.... totally fair! There are 25 questions on the test & he takes the # u get right and multiply that by 5. TOTALLY FAIR.
Makes the class interesting and the presentation is awesome. I can see how some others would consider him borring, however the teaching is first rate. His style is a little aloof, however the information is vast and detailed. I like him, but can see how others would not. Tests are easy IF YOU GO TO CLASS. Notes are provided in powerpoint form.
Whatever you do DO NOT TAKE DR.PATRICK!!! He is the worst teacher that I have EVER had! Even if his is the only class left do not take him. You will fall asleep in this class because he is SOOOO boring. He does not help you if you have questions. He can be extremely sarcastic during inappropriate times and down right rude at other times!
he's very boring, but the material isn't. do not take him at 8am. the room is dark, and believe me, you'll be sleeping. attendance matters and there's assigned seating. if you get to the review session if he has one, you'll do fine on the test. i did't even have to take his final!
Dr. Patrick is passionate about art, and it shows in his lectures. His slideshows are well put together. He tends to be a bit sarcastic at times and his tests are KILLER. Study hard.
He's an easy A if you just read the chapters and listen and take notes in class. He curves the grades so much! You would have to almost be not trying at all to make a C in here. I thought some it was interesting - some days could be boring though. Still - pretty easy considering you could make a 125 on each test.
He puts all notes online. If you print them out and follow them in class you should do fine. He may be boring... but the subject is what is a little redundant. I read the chapters in the book and looked over notes and made an A on all tests, and he curves the grades.
Horrible teacher. He wastes lecture time on the history of the era of art but doesn't test over it. He uses opinionated words (I'm sorry, but "elegant" is subjective), and his teaching style is horrible. I would not recommend him to anybody.
He is rude and sarcastic to students in class when there is no need for it. For his tests half of the questions are pictures that you have to identify what time period they are from. He does curve the tests so that helps. I would say take just about any other teacher, most people would not enjoy this class.
Complete ****! TAKES TARDIES AND DROPS GRADES. I had a B and a few tardies, and he dropped my grade to a D because I emailed him asking about my grade! Always rude IN CLASS and IN EMAILS. COMPUTER RETARDED. EGOTISTICAL. BORING. OLD DEPRESSED SNOB! WORST TEACHER EVER!
This class is just really difficult. He expects you to be an art major or something. He gives lots of extra points on tests just to make up for how impossible they are, i wouldn't recommend him.
He seems like a nice guy, and very educated regarding all aspects of art, but he is simply a bad teacher. Meaning he is boring, unorganized, and basically just not very good at "teaching" his students. His style is basically just read millions of powerpoints to a class that has no idea what to focus on, and test classes over nothing he went over.
Kinda funny in an incredibly rude way. Deffinetly doesnt care if you need help, he goes at his own pace. Not in the least bit easy I struggled for a C and I always went to the review sessioins - which had little to do with the actual tests.
Print out notes that are helpful and easy to follow along with. He may be boring but he is passionate about his subject and just wants his students to love art too. Go to class, follow, the notes and you'll do fine. I feel bad that this teacher is so misunderstood.
Here's the deal. He curves the bejesus out of his 25 question tests. He does this because even if you study as hard as possible, the grade you make on the test is still kind of a toss-up. I had an A in that class and slept through a test... Make-Up tests are HARD!!!! Then he gave me a less-than-fair grade for my review. I ended up with a C+...
I didn't have a lot of trouble, but I did stress. I really studied my butt off for this class, but I listened to my iPod during class. I still got a B, but if you aren't in love with Art, I would not take this class.
This guy is beyond pompous. He HATES his students and will do anything to make students fail tests (ie changing the format every time, letting his GRANDSON make them). He will gloat on and on about his knowledge of a piece and give you anything but organized important info. Also, he gave me a D due to surgery tardies, instead of B. Had to repeal...
He rubbed off as pompous and pretentious. He gives slide show tests. The curve for the course is in the tests. He gives you the chance to make like 120 on the test. Easy class. Boring if you think art is useless (it mostly is). Easy paper grader probably because he doesn't care. He runs around Europe in his free time looking at pretty things.
An ok professor. Puts all his notes online, but sometimes does not follow it completely. You must read the book to do good on the test. He talks about stuff in lecture that is not even on the test. You must study hard to make a good grade. Study averagely to pass. I had him for 2 classes in 1 semester Art2313 and ArtH2302. He was the same in both.
I ussualy make Bs on his tests but I stress myself out too much studying, there are kids in the class who do not study as hard and make 115! Im sure it helps if you have a photographic memory with the images for the test.
The inherent problem with this class is that art styles are a load of BS. Any piece could have come from any period, so any effort to classify it by a number of vaguely-defined traits is going to fail miserably. When all else fails, Patrick will tell you something has a trait when it clearly doesn't, and you'll of course get that question wrong.
This one goes out to everyone who's ever gotten a "0" on a critical review because it wasn't double-spaced.
Where to start,ah yes...He is by far the worse prof i have ever had. Attendance is mandatory and he will subtract your total grade by 150 points if you are absent more than four times. Dont take him, if you have to wait for another prof for another semester, do it! Not only is he obsessed with his attendance policy, his test dont match his notes.
STAY AWAKE! If you can manage to stay awake and read a little every night like he says then you will get an "A"! Its does help to have a photographic memory! I actually sleep a lot in this class but studied for my test and FOLLOWED instructions on my critical review! RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS WHO DONT MIND STUDYING A "LITTLE BIT"!
The lectures are boring and don't really go along with the test questions. I got an A because I learned that if you just read the descriptions about the styles of art and follow his instructions PERFECTLY on the critical reviews, you'll do great. You really don't have to have a photographic memory... just remember how he DESCRIBES the art.
his notes are confusing and unorganized, and he does not test over half of the material he teaches us.
His lectures were boring, and he was rude to students who asked questions.
the notes and details he goes over, are not on the exams. I don't recommend this teacher at all. Dont take this class with HIM because u want to get it over with, wait until you get a teacher with good reviews.
It has been a year since i had this man as my prof and im still not over it. He is a horrible teacher with the idea that he is the only class you are taking. If you are fine with outrageous attendance then go for it. I did fine in the class but...stay away from this class if you can..
He makes horrible jokes in class. They're not funny at all! He says he wants ppl to ask questions, but hes very rude about the answers! He makes fun of you in front of the class.Last class all our notes we went over were not even on the test!ADAYSWORTH of notes, and it wasnt even on the test! Be warned, the tests are slide-oriented and they're hard
His lectures are a bit dry and the assigned seating makes things very cramped, but as far as learning the material - he plainly states what will be on the tests, so memorize it and you will be golden. He's straight-forward, so no surprises. It's a lot of images, so don't wait until the last day - but know titles, artist, year and you'll be set.
Never made lower than a B in college...worked my butt off in this class and still managed to fail...I only wish I could find words to describe to you how horrible this man is at teaching..Im currently retaking this class with Duganne and I'm glad I did. He sucks every bit of life out of this class. at all possible, avoid him at all costs..
If you want to teach YOURSELF about art appreciation/art history, want absolutely nothing to do with the prof, don't want to ask questions, want to attend lectures for really no reason because the test info is all in the book (none from lecture), and want to be belittled infront of the class, then take HIS intro to art class!!
This was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Going to class was pointless and studying for the exams was impossible because he asked questions over things he didn't even teach. Do not take his class.
He was terrible! He tells you before tests that like 80% will be from the textbook and to just read it all because the people who wrote the textbook know art way better...or something like that. Be prepared to read the whole book and teach yourself. He only gives extra credit to people who do really well on the tests. The ones who don't need it!
Horrible class. I'm sure he knows alot about whatever it is that he rambles on about, but he definitely does not know how to teach it. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!!! unorganized, terrible teacher, notes and tests dont correlate, no common sense
DO NOT take his class!!! This is the hardest class I had to take and its a freakin art class! He expects you to know everything, without even teaching it, and the book is no help. The only thing I did good on was my critical review paper over a peice of art that he took 10 points off of for no title. I would avoid taking his class.
The only reason why this class was not difficult for me was because I am a double major in the art department and have previously taken two art history classes. This class was basically like an advanced art history class. And on top of that Patrick is a very ridiculous man.It seems that he gets a big kick out of being rude confusing and unorganized
