He is the stupidest teacher I have ever had, but the class is easy. He is very flexable and the tests are pretty easy. But the things that come out of his mouth are retarded.

AWESOME! really cares that you do good. it shows that he likes teaching. some tests are tough but right from his lectures. if you study you should do good.
very clever dude. i highly recommend this class
Great teacher. Highly reccommend.
I loved him he has been THE BEST TEACHER I have ever had. He made Biology fun and interesting with lots of funny stories. He writes notes on the board during lecture, so it is not hard to keep up with him. I highly recommend him.
He's helpful to students who look for his help. 75% of the tests are based from lecture. Not much reading in class so you could get by without a book but only for a few chapters. Lectures were fun and learned a lot. Good class. Got an A.
Amazing teacher, funny, helps those who look for help, gives study guides, Most of the exams are based on lectures, important to attend class because he gives extra credit when class is not full. Best bio teacher EVER! *only teaches in the springs*
This is my favorite teacher at CSUF. Wants to see everyone do well in his class. Explains the subject well and on a level that everyone can understand. He only teaches in the spring, so wait and take this class then...he is worth it.
Good teacher, makes jokes, and loves to tell stories, and very excited about each subject he teaches. Test aren't hard just got to go to class and study!
cool guy who loves to tell stories. everyone thinks hes cool BUT if u want a good grade dont take this class!!! he doesnt grade ANYTHING (some random department guy does it) then when u have questions about the paper he cant help u because he didnt grade it. 300 points in class total. no room for error and if u dont go to class u do terrible!
He is so corny and a lil geeky. He is a good teacher tho. Very staright to the point. He always welcomes you to ask for help.
He is very funny and interesting. The class is moderately easy, he doesn't grade the papers. Had a Fun time in his class.

He's very clear and an excellent teacher, but super tough. You'll learn more than you could imagine, but be prepared to really work for it.
My favorite professor! He actually teaches you and know the subject well. He expects you to learn at a high level and his tests are very hard. He teaches at a med school level. Finally a professor who actually challenges students and teaches them. Like the other comments, very hard, but you'll learn.
He is a nice guy and all but his cheesy and on top of it he is not clear at all about what you should study for and he doest not lecture well very messy jumps all over the place. NO REVIEWS EVER. DOOONNNT TAKE HIM 50% of class dropped.
Good teacher but... he can be a little confusing at times, likes to jump around. His tests can be tricky. But if you study well then you can succeed in the class with at least a B. 50% of the class did drop. But don't be scared... hang in there... Don't let the over achievers scare you off!!
Lectures right off the lecture outlines, so make sure you know them going into the tests. Reaaly straight forward. Lecture is harder than lab but only worth half the grade
Although the class was hard, he was the most helpful teacher i have ever had. He is always willing to answer questions. Make sure you read the book as he likes to trick questions. If you study hard then you will be fine with his tricky tests.
I have to say I am impressed with him. He really put lots of effort for students to learn during lectures. This helped me a lot because I had problems in memorizing materials in other science class. I highly recomend him anyone who had trouble in biology class and you will be amazed how much you can remember!
Extremely effective lecture style and teaching methods. Puts in a substantial amount of effort in your learning not only in lecture but also in lab. He is really involved with both aspects of the course. Drops by lab almost every session to check up on us. Learned A LOT. Warning: DON'T SLACK OFF IN LAB! Lab is A LOT of work and sometimes tedious
super teacher, super smart, super HARD. your risking your gpa. i shoulda gotta A but gotta C instead.
I've taken 3 classes with him and it's the same way in all of them. His classes are tough and so are his tests. There's a huge workload, you need a huge amount of study time.
LOVED the class but STRONGLY DISLIKED this professor. Definitely recommend taking it with someone else! Does not provide much help to students. Made this class more difficult than necessary because you pretty much learn everything on your own.
Great teaching methods. Didn't use powerpoint slides for information, only for diagrams. Curves are fair and helps you out in lab if he's there. Very involved with both lab and lecture.
I am a non-bio major and taking this class as a prereq. This class is tough n I needed to spend extra time getting the hang of bio technique stuff. He seems cool, witty, and nerdy, but he's by the book. meaning, I was one day late to hand in a hw, and due to whatever cir****stance, he would not accept it. sucks. 2 hws, 3 exams, 1 final, 4-5 lab prac
He is very specific on every thing, especially grading. You always end up with a grade lower than what you expected on exams, hw, etc. Very tough class that requires A LOT of memorization. Talks about himself a lot. He doesn't seem to care much about his students. One bad score on any exam will bring your grade down significantly.
This was the hardest class i have ever taken. if you can take a different teacher before this guy. i like the subject but its crazy hard through this guy.
Great teacher who really wants you to succeed, and is actually willing to help you. It's a tough class, but he makes it easier. Very good lectures that explain anatomy really well. He's nice when you go to office hours, and will even help you in lab. One of the better professors biology. If you are premed or prehealth, he's a must take.
Maybe he does a good job explaining but what he expect of u to know is so much more than his lectures, hard to survive without reading the book. I tauhgt myself everything. Loves to catch people plagerizing, everhting is turnit.com and so many people failed because of being caught. BE CAREFUL.workload for lab is ALOT and i think should be 2 units.

Dont recommend taking this class.
The lab was too much work, but the problem was the grading system. On the second exam there was more than 10 people who got single digit on the written exam.
Lectures were interesting, Since the subject is physiology. However, the lab is tremendous amount of work. The prof. does not really a fan of partial credit so it is not unusual that you would get 1 point of 8 for literally half a page writing.First time I took this class I got a C- and second time I got a W in my transcript. lol Good Luck
His Tests are HARD! I went to his office hours for help a lot but didn't help very much.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE BUT HIM. DONT TAKE SHAH LAB INSTRUCTOR EITHER. TAKE THEM IF YOU WANT AT LEAST A C IN THE CLASS.
One of the most knowledgeable professor i had ever had! I took him for non majors and it was my favorite class last spring. Just go over your notes and u will be fine. Encourage students to take care of their health. Very funny and helpful! he curves the tests if he needs to. He has passion for what he teaches. I recommend him for bio310!
I thought he was decent...Keeps things interesting with stories about his sister. Tests can be tricky. Relatively difficult class, but it's a difficult subject. Biggest problem was his inability to get grades back in a timely fashion...expect at least a month before getting test grades back
This professor is good at teaching but is unprofessional at everything else. Do not take this class if you're aiming for a C or to pass. You will not know this until the very end of the semester. I have taken 3 exams and have 1 grade going into finals week. The exams are scantron!! He is very lazy when it comes to grading!!!!
hes really fun and makes class interesting. yeah, its takes along time to get test grades, but you guys should give him a break. the guys totally overworked and i went to his office hours alot so I saw how he gives lots of time to students. only 2 tests and a final but he gives points in class and curves tests so people get 100 or over
Darryl is amazing. Exams can be tricky but if you understand the material, it's not bad and if you speak to him he directs you towards comprehension. He's not very prompt with his grades but then again he's also teaching 2 other courses. Just record the lectures, listen to them, type them out, and review them before the exam
Yes he is a difficult teacher but he does try to make sure everyone understands. His lectures are good, he tells intresting stories, but the tests are difficult. Be sure to be in class everyday because he gives out free points. And take VERY good notes because the tests are tricky!
He's a nice guy, I will give him that but his teaching style needs work. He is intelligent but doesn't come down to the student level. He doesn't use power points and writes on the white board the entire class time so detailed notes are a must. he's the only physio teacher or otherwise I would suggest someone else. readings a must.
He's a good teacher and knows the subject very well. He uses lots of examples which makes it easy to understand the concepts. However his tests are difficult and tricky, but its a tough subject. I would recommend him because he usually curves the grades by a whole letter grade. I ended up with an A when I thought I did really horrible :)
He makes you think like hes hard but not. lol! You got to go to lectures because his test is a 100% from it. he needs to put his lectures on his powerpoints. lol!
i LOVED THIS CLASS! I wasnt looking forward based on his reviews, but i was surprised! He is the definition of a great teacher! He gives an outline of the material and class is mandatory. Tests are based on notes and a little off the textbook. He uses all different learning types not just book or lecture. He's hilarious and charming. Take him!!!!!!
Honestly, one of the best professors I've had. He's funny, entertaining and really wants the best for his students. He is very knowledgable. This is not an easy topic though! His anecdotes helped me learn and remember the material better. Overall, awesome professor, would definitely recommend taking him.
Smith is a good teacher. You take notes in every class since the lecture exam is based on it. he's quirky. lab was super hard. textbook is a must and you stay the whole 3 hours. exams were hard because it was hard to study for since half the test is ID'ing things under a microscope...not something you can take home. lots of homework.
Best lecturer on campus! He teaches with perfect clarity. Take hand written notes because he uses a bunch of drawings and flow charts. He curves the exams a little if needed. If you go to his office hours before the exams, you will do very well. He just wants you to know the basics but to know them thoroughly.
This class wasn't super hard, but it's a lot of studying. His lectures are great though. He has an outline but goes into detail, and will ask for questions every so often. He draws a lot of pictures for those that are visual learners. He is funny, and I actually enjoyed the class.
He is a nice enough guy, but honestly not a very good teacher. He is clear about subjects but his exams were extremely hard and tricky! I would walk away thinking that I got at least a B on his exam and it would come back with a C or D, even after studying a lot! If you can take someone DO IT! He goes off on tangents as well which was annoying.
He is a very good teacher and funny. But i Dont recommend anyone take BIO 310 unless you have too. Class is extremely difficult. Hardly any homework or class work. Two exams and a final which are extremely difficult. Studying wont get you a good grade alone, one must memorize.
Avoid at all cost! His lectures are absurd and completely sloppy. You must decipher through his useless notes. Hours of studying and memorizing will amount to a less than passing grade He gets a sick satisfaction from making tricky exams. You give exams to assess if the concepts are learned NOT to see if we can catch your stupid tricks. AVOID!!
This was actually an easy class!! The tests come directly from his lecture notes so there is no point in reading the book. Just try to write more notes than what he actually writes on the board. Do this and you'll get an A!!
Worst teacher I have ever had of all my biology courses. Takes forever to get grades back not to mention the grade you receive will be at least 2 letter grades lower than you expect. Awful!! Teaches the subject using really messy notes and awkward diagrams. Csuf needs to hire more physio teachers because this guy just doesn't cut it.
Horrible teacher. His notes are all over the place and are incredibly messy. I was barely able to decipher anything written on the board. He goes off on tangents daily, on topics that have nothing to do with the current one. Grade is based on two exams plus the final. It's scantron, so why it takes him a month to give back I don't know.
I LOVE Darryl. Yes his tests are hard but the material is extremely interesting and he's funny in a dorky way. He's very good at explaining concepts. If you know how to take good notes and can pay attention in class you'll be fine.the notes are your life line for the test so either memorize them or have a good understanding for physiology. I got a B+
Seriously consider taking someone else if its possible, but its more than likely not. He doesn't follow the book, his tests are entirely off of his lectures. so to do well you must record the lectures and type out the lectures do barely get by with a C. He is a GPA killer. THis class might as well be called A & P not just anatomy. horrible!!!!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! He is an awful teacher. Yes the lectures can be kind of interesting but his tests are ridiculous!!! He is not testing like it is an undergraduate level non-major class... his tests seem like he is testing at least at a graduate level. He is not very helpful in office hours and does not curve. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Smith is hard but it just depends on how you study. I got an A but I had to record and rewrite verbatim whatever he said on my own notes and study it. If you do that I guarantee at least a B.
Only take this class if you don't have other science courses to take. This class was difficult for me because he was unclear, off topic, and confusing. you need to study 3-4 hours a day. if you have a job FORGET IT. Not a good teacher for detailed content like physio, you can't take someone else since he's the only teacher. GOOD LUCK
I used to love physiology until I took Darryl's class. I took this just for kicks and to refresh my physiology knowledge, but now I completely regret it. The way he presented the material in lecture was very confusing. Exams were ridiculously difficult. I have never studied so hard & dedicated so much time for a mediocre grade.
Oe of the best teachers i've had. Really explains material well so you understand it and don't just memorize. The class is hard but take really good lecture notes because he tests from lecture and not the book. You have to record becase he lectures real fast. He curves the first test
Only take this class if you're absolutely serious about going into the health professions. To get an A you really need to record lectures (he lectures fast), go to office hours as often as possible, re-write notes, and study A LOT! He is always willing to help and clarify things. Seek his help, and you will learn so much!
This class is extremely difficult and tedious, but I personally loved it. If I could give any words of advice, they would be to: take notes and record lectures, and then listen to them again and insert the figures he showed and GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. I barely used the book though, so just go by what he says and shows to you! :D
I had much harder courses before. I learned the most from the mistakes I made in those courses. But, I learned NOTHING from the "mistakes" I made in Smith's class. Instead, the "mistakes" caused nothing but frustrations. I think I am not the only one feeling this way. In short, do take another professor for this course if you can.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Smith excels at making really smart students fail his class. His tests are unbelievably difficult for a G.E. physiology course. Even if you study a lot and feel like you did well on his tests you will still get a C or worse. He doesn't use the book at all and tests solely on his lectures. An A student will get a B- or C
Did not enjoy or liked this class. Exams were mostly multiple choice with 2-3 short answer questions. Horrible teaching style. Avoid this class if possible.
He was always in our lab, but he wasn't there to help students. He was chatting with the TA about their personal lives. The TA was on her ipad playing games or using school computer to check her facebook. For the lecture part, (he has office hours) but practically, there is little or no feedback, so you didn't know what you did wrong. AVOID!
Awesome professor, difficult class. This guy knows his stuff and his class is very interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to get a good grade, you better not miss a single class. He does not use power-point, he's an old school lecturer; uses the whiteboard a lot. You have to take notes, if you miss one class, you've missed a lot!
Great professor and he's really good at explaining physiology so you can fully understand it. I learned more than I thought I could from him. Tests are straight from lectures and homeworks. They aren't that hard as long as you study and really know his lectures and homeworks. Highly recommend!
Avoid if you can. He's a really good teacher but a horrible tester. His testsquizzes are ridiculous. You have to know EVERYTHING. Not just from his lectures or the book, but from the worksheets that you don't get credit for. He's willing to help but his quizzes are so far out there that it doesn't really help. Nice guy but I don't recommend.
Lectures too fast. Quizzes are too difficult. Would NOT recommend.
I worked my butt off in this class for a C. He's confusing and his quizzes are too difficult
He really cares about the subject and his students. Always offers more office hours if needed. Attend class, record lectures, make sure you listen to them before the exams (questions are verbatim from recordings, he even says books aren't mandatory), A's are very attainable. Physiology is a hard subject but he makes it as easy as he could.
Absolutely avoid taking this professor. He knows what he is talking about and his lectures are interesting, but his tests are unbelievably hard. If this is your only class you are taking that semester, can invest 23 of the day for study time EACH DAY, then you'll do great. Other then that, no chance.
Here's the deal with Prof. Smith. He def knows his stuff. You will probably learn more in this class than any other class you take (other than Biol 3612). His exams are brutal if you study alone. Make friends, study with them everyday, and you will get a B in the class. I had him over the summer, and yea it was hard, but it was definitely doable.
The majority of the ppl in my class were very upset wthis prof. He says that you will do well if you study off his lectures. This is not the case AT ALL. His quizzes are the most difficult quizzes I have encountered during my time here at CSUF (I've taken chem&physics). Don't take this class wother upper division classes, you won't do well!
Prof. Smith is very intelligent. Unfortunately I think it is similar to 'you can't see the forest from the tree's'... These concepts he teaches are VERY new to MOST students. Most of them were never really covered (especially if you are a transfer student, I don't know how well they sync with CSUF). HARD!! He goes too fast. Assumes we know a lot.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Any class that he is teaching do not take. There are no "test" only "quizzes." If you want to pass you have to record his lecture and memorize it. You also HAVE to go to office hours. Have been known to use things said in office hours as test questions. Can't make his office hours? Too bad he won't even answer your emails.
This professor lectures well, is enthusiastic about the subject, and covers only an overview of physiology in 310. Problem most people have in this class is that the tests are TRICKY. You'll need to study a certain way- DEFT record the lectures, re-listen and fill in notesfigures you missed the first time, go over your notes, and ask questions.
Professor Smith is a funny kind guy. I would love him as a lab instructor but as a professor for lecture never again. Without a doubt the hardest class I've taken. His exams are ridiculous and if you mess up on two of them be prepared to take the class again. Way too hard for undergrad. Definitely a GPA killer. Trust me, I had a 3.5 not anymore
This class is a whole different level than KNES 191A! Smith only gives super tricky quizzes, so there isnt a lot of room for error. Go to every lecture because what he writes on the board and emphasizes in class is on the quiz. Read the suggested reading he assigns. His office hours are very crowded, but he is extremely encouraging and helpful.
The book is a def. must, almost impossible to pass without reading. You NEED to really understand reading the exams are difficult and require lots more critical thinking than memorizing. Have another student test you before hand they will think of Qsconcepts u might not hav and help u see what u need to study more. Do not underestimate exams.
Smith has a different way of teaching which is called 'applied and critical thinking'. Anyone that wants a career in the medicalhealth field should take his class. Yes- it may seem harder ,however, you will be grateful at the end that you took him. I recorded his lectures,re-wrote class notes and re-read them and got an A in the class.
HORRIBLE! Worst class I've ever taken in my Whole life and one of the worst professors! He does not care about students and barely helps anybody in office hours bc everybody goes cuz it's so hard. He doesn't explain things very well or help clarify without making you feel dumb . His quizzes are unbelievably difficult it's a ridiculous with him.
If you were to tell someone on campus that you had Darryl Smith, they would tell you "I'm sorry, good luck." And they're right. RECORD HIS LECTURES and study from your notes! That is the best advice I could give you for his class. In my opinion his lectures were great. His tests are tricky and difficult so TAKE YOUR TIME and read carefully.
Avoid taking this professor at all costs. His tests are a nightmare. He gives no feedback and won't help if you ask him. Worst biology class I have ever taken.
Tests are different from lecture material sometimes, be sure to look at what he posted you.
While his tests may be hard, I find that he is one of the best professors ever. He truly is willing to help his students, but you have to make the effort to receive the help as well. His office hours are very helpful and so delightful. HE IS SO COOOOOOOOOOL
I was skeptical about taking this class with Professor Smith, but I am glad I did. He is extremely intelligent and made class interesting. His tests are difficult, but they are fair. I recorded the lectures, but never actually went back and listened to them. You do not need to read the book, just make sure you take detailed notes in lecture.
His exams are actually easy. It's his lecture style that's the issue. Most of his lecture is said, but not written down. Therefore, recording his lecture is KEY. You can zone out or mishear things. Make sure to record and relisten to ensure you did not miss any key points from lecture.
This is the worst class you could ever take at CSUF. Yes, he knows the information well but he can't effectively communicate it to his students. His tests are meant to trick you which shouldn't even be the point of a science class. The point of the class is to LEARN the material, but you'll mostly be learning how to translate his questions.
His lecture/exam style is quite unique. Basically, the only way to do well in his class is to be the type with a strong desire to learn. His class basically weeds out people who don't like learning biology. If you just want a good grade, you'll get a bad one. I do like how he weeds out pre-health students who don't want to learn, won't lie.
He really tests your ability to adapt. If you did bad the first time, reflect on what you did wrong and try things differently. Got a D on the first exam an A- on the 2nd. I feel like most students complain and don't make the effort to adapt. Then again, many students not adjusting their study habits means a better curve so I'm not complaining.
Not as hard as people make it sound. Key is to not solely rely on what he writes on the board, but taking notes as he is talking. Record lectures and relisten to what you missed. Go through the lecture outlines he provides and try to go through each topic as if you were going to teach someone. You'll easily get an A that way and do well in lab too!
Continuing on what the person below me said, most of his lecture is said not written. So recording is key. If you find biology interesting and want to learn, relistening to his lectures isn't much of a hassle. If you're just taking this class as a prerequisite and don't want to learn, you're pretty much screwed. Your drive to learn is key.
Now that the final is over, I feel that people have over exaggerated the difficulty of this course. His exam is just merely the information he writes on the board and his oral presentation. You must write down what he says, record lecture, relisten, and jot down what you missed. Getting an A is very doable, just put the effort in.
Exam are extremely hard. So pretty much if you can memorize every word that comes out of his mouth during lecture, you passed. If you can't, then you are going to struggle with this class. However, you do come out of his class knowing A LOT about human anatomy and its clinical applications
I think this is one of those classes that would've been more interesting to me if it hadn't been a prerequisite that was completely unrelated to my major. That being said, while his class is passable, the amount of reading and the auditory style of lecture was definitely hard to get used to. Skip class and you're almost guaranteed to get an F.
He is a bit awkward. There's only 3 exams, and a few hwk assignments. He doesn't give exams back; takes FOREVER to grade them; exams are very wordy, which gets confusing. Record lecture and re-take notes. Sometimes he doesn't get straight to the point during lectures, which sucks. But overall, the information is very interesting.
Awesome professor! You MUST take good notes to pass, but lectures are entertaining and very helpful. He makes nerdy jokes the whole time and really makes sure everyone understands the material. He makes a complex topic easy to comprehend. Text not required but helpful. Studying is a must. Very helpful when you have questions. Take his class!!
I dont know why people say this class is hard. I graduated from previous university never getting an A in any BIO class, mostly C's, I thought I was dumb. I come to this class to retake physio, material learned in this class was maybe 1/4th of what i learned in other university. Not very much info and all you have to do is go class. Got an A.
The class isn't too hard, if you're a visual learner. He draws examples and they stick with you. The exams aren't too difficult either. 3 exams not cumulative. No book needed but it does help.
It was a very challenging but rewarding course. There is a lot of memorization and application of knowledge on tests. The written portion of exams were really difficult. You have to make sure you are hitting the key words he's looking for. If you work extremely hard in lecture and lab, you will learn a lot. Don't fall behind on the material!
Lecture: Slow, low detail. Exams: Brutal. DON'T USE the book, memorize his lectures. If you put something from the book that he didn't mention in lecture, it's wrong. Frustrating in this regard. Takes forever to grade exams. He means well and he's kind but I would avoid if possible.
Terrible professor. Speaks painstakingly slow in lectures. Whenever I asked questions, he never really gave a proper, direct answer. Office hours were never helpful. One time I went to office hours and his advice was to " just study harder next time" as if I didn't study. Difficult exams cause more than usual failing students. Also grades very slow
Had this professor for 361, didn't pass and had to retake it. Don't know what I was thinking when I decided to take him again for 362 and honestly regret it. He takes months to grade back one midterm, his lectures are always off topic and could be summarized in 1 lecture sitting if he didn't go off tangent all the. Avoid at all costs, TRUST me.
EXTREMELY HARD JUST TO PASS I passed with a good grade but honestly I cannot recommend him as a prof. Decent prof, BAD TRICKY exam. YOU NEED TO RECORD LECTURE. Bad grader, took 2 weeks to grade all scantron final. I would agree you will learn ALOT, BUT you can learn just as much with another prof. The other prof is easier just be safe and AVOID
The material is not hard at all as you attend lecture. You've heard his exams are word for word of his lecture.. that may be true but still try to understand the meaning behind them through the textbook. Office hours were not that helpful either. People that got around 60% average (midterm+final) still passed. Just don't get 45% on any exams.
Worst biology professor at CSUF
The exam were very hard, honestly doesn't want you to pass! The lectures are hard to keep up, completely different than what's on the test. Save your time and don't take him!!!'
I had Professor Smith for Physio and Anatomy. He was a solid lecturer, very clear and concise. Test were fair (although be careful with the written portions: remember to use specific key words). Record lectures and take hand written notes, and you will be fine.
The material is very interesting and the professor is great at explaining the concepts. However, his tests are really hard! As someone mentioned previously, it seems like he makes it difficult for no reason. What we learn in class isn't necessarily on the test. He also doesn't provide study guides.
Professor Daryyl is an amazing professor that makes you work for your grade. For his bio 210 class there was 0homework & only 3exams. He suggests recording lectures which helps out tremendously & take good notes as most of the exams are on his lectures. He wants his students to fully grasp the material & makes jokes that help students remember it.
Picture being taught only the basics in karate then one day your thrown on to stage to fight 12 black belts. This fits perfectly to his lectures and the day of the exam. Avoid this villain dressed as a professor at ALL costs. He loves to see students suffer. I'm guessing it makes him feel good since he's most likely a medical school reject? Yeah.
Not an easy A! But it is definitely possible to earn an A or pass the class. His lectures have a lot of information so I would highly recommend recording the lectures. Take good notes and revisit recorded lectures and you will get a good grade. His exams are multiple choice with no free response. Show up to class and study and you'll be fine.
He definitely makes you work for your grade. His lectures have a lot of information that comes up in the exams, so I recommend recording the lectures. There is zero homework and your grade is based on 3 multiple choice exams. If you want a good grade study recorded lectures while revisiting class notes (rewrite them), and create flash cards.
he is hilarious and always has a story to help students understand the material. i enjoyed his class. i recommend don't skip any lectures though bc you will fall behind. no homework, 3-4 tests, and an occasional assignments in class.
He seriously is a terrible professor. Exams are nothing like what he lectures on. He is not approachable at all. Do not take. You will regret it.
Professor Smith was the only professor available to take the course, so I just placed into the class without thinking much. The class grade consist of mainly 3 exams. Each exam is 100 points and 30 points for participation. He talks about his life or scenarios that could relate to anatomy and the rest is lecture. There's barely any power points..
As someone w/ many years at CSUF under their belt I will say this. Anatomy isnt easy, hence why its covered in med school. The workload is very demanding. But since smith is an anatomist, he communicates the subject very well. Physiology isn't his thing, which is why he has a rep of being tough. But this class is doable with enough dedication.
I am generally decent with anatomy but upon taking this class, almost everything made no sense. No powerpoints, homework, or attendance for participation. He just explains concepts with real life situations, not really explaining what everything means. His tests are really confusing. After taking the class, a lot of my classmates failed his class.
I really liked Darryl! His tests were very confusing, though! This class made some people have to drop out of the nursing program, so if you're a nursing major, get ready to study! My advice is to use his lecture outlines as a study guide and read all of the recommended readings in the textbook! Go to his office hours!! he likes visitors :)
The tests are hard and they will make you doubt yourself. You need to put in the time to secure your own knowledge and mastery of the material. Darryl had his office hours multiple times during the week. I recommend going to his office hours and at least listening to other students' questions since his classes cover much of the same material
