Cool guy. Really easy going and knows his stuff inside out.
Very personable, tries to reach every student, and thoroughly knows the field. I'll definitely take more of his classes.
knows his stuff. very cool. makes the class fun and easy.
I agree with everyone here...good teacher, great person...fun and interesting class... hope he stays at CSM for a long time...wish all my teachers were like him...take all his classes-- trust me
Very informative and well educated. Makes a usually dull subject very interesting through a variety of teaching methods and he always makes himself available for his students.
Highly educated and knows how to share his knowledge w/ undergrads. Great sense of humor, fun class! Kind of guy you'd like to hang out with and bar-b-que! Knows his "star stuff!"
Very nice and funny. Class is usually really fun.
Mr Stanford is tremendously educated and easy going. It was a joy to be in his class. His coursework is fair and his explanations clarify many questions. You really learn the material (unlike other classes which bombard you with too much info in begclass)
i agree with all of them
he's a good teacher. he knows his stuff and really takes the time to teach his students. if you have a question, he's willing to give you a thourough explaination that makes sense. very down to earth type of a guy (he has a harley too!)
Easy, easy...fun fun. Lots of cool stuff to see. Go and enjoy.
Made learning fun and easy. Very interesting class. Played Bob Marley in class, which was cool! Spark one up for me Mr. Stanford!
A really nice class. Defintely not a sleeper class. Overall, this is a enjoyable class.
An excellent teacher. He always tries to relate things to the real world and makes the class entertaining. It is physics, so you need some good math skills, but he always helps when you don't understand.Ask questions.Good taste in music and has a nice bike
Darryl rocks!
Pretty easy
great teacher, makes class fun. easy A
he makes class interesting, and all the side notes about astronomy in physics class is also really nice. lots of extra credit assignments if you can go (they're mostly friday nights). easy to talk to and offers a lot of outside help. hw is easy, once a week only! take him for physics and astronomy!
MR STANFORD IS NOT COOL GIVE EVERYONE A GRADE D TO F GRADE ONLY IN HIS CLASS SO I EXPECT TO GO WITH DRAW RIGHT NOW FOR SPRING SEMESTER YOU BE SORRY AND INTEARS CAUSE HE IS GONNA GIVE YOU GRADE F ONLY IN HIS CLASS BE AWARE F GRADE
Cool teacher ! he is nice and reasonable. his tests are not too tought, u can do many extra credits to bring up your grades. interesting projects.
The coolest teacher I ever had! Very understanding and really knows his stuff! Makes class fun and interesting.
His music, style, and humor are rockin, and he's incredibly patient with everybody. Very much a real person, not a talking head. Astronomy aint half bad either.
FOR MR STANFORD OH MY GOD STUDENT WHY ARE YOU TAKEN HIS CLASS FOR THE FALL SEMESTER OF 2005 ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND HE IS THE WROSE PROFESSOR AND WILL NOT TELL YOU WHAT IS ON THE TEST EVEN THE HOMEWORK IS VERY KIND OF TRICKY BESIDE YOU NOT LEARNING ANYTHING IN HIS CLASS JUST SPACEOUT LOOK AT THE PLANET NAME ALL THE PLANET STAR MOON NOT AFUNCLASS
Mr. Stanford is a cool teacher and his classes are very interesting and he is very helpful. For those who find his classes bad, u just need to do a litte reading thats all...class is simple and like i said interesting. highly recommended.
Professor Stanford is a super cool guy.His tests are hard, but he offers pleanty of extra credit to make up for poor test scores. His lectures are really interesting and he plays ragae music during his lab class.
He is very cool teacher. Tests are very hard but do the extra credit assignments and the paper and you should done fine.
Hella cool teacher. Layed back and is always happy to explain anything that is confusing. Tests are a little tough but is overall good. Stanford is the bomb.
He is cool and the environment is hella chill. Even though he doesnt take role for the lectures, go anyways because tests are hard.
One of the best teachers ive ever had. He's awesome, and he keeps everything interesting and funny. He coudl answer almost any question you have, hes very informative and he knows his****
He is very nice teacher. The lecture is clear and easy to following.
Mr. Stanford is really, really cool. If you want to get college credit for expanding your perception of the universe, this class is for you.
This class was an eye-openning exposure to me, to a lot of students. Has a good personality, and sense of humor. TAKE HIM! It should be hard to fail his class since he explains everything in class.
Mr. Stanford is very friendly & helpful. I usually drop by his office to ask ASTRO questions. He gives study guide before each quiz; 3 quizes, drops the lowest one, and one final exam, which only the last couple chapters he covers. One project to turn in (your choice of topic). He is funny too!
Prof. Stanford is one of the best professors at CSM, hands down. If a student is willing to put forth the effort, he will gladly work with them as much as possible. He's very patient, funny, and intelligent. Lectures are clear, organized, and fun to attend. No tricks or sneaky things - just good teaching. Pay attention in class and you'll do great!
take good notes! and make sure you study study study them for the tests. make sure you go to both classes cus he puts questions into his tests that he might have mentioned for like 2 minutes in his lectures. hes overall really funny and helpful, always takes time out to answer your questions. i learned a lot and it was fun
best teacher i have ever had, he actually loves his job and knows what he is talking about. he keeps the class interesting! and as long as you go to class and try your best he will pass you!
Funny teacher, knows his stuff, and willing to help those who try and show an interest in the subject. Passes out helpful study guides before the tests, drops the worst one, and gives you many opportunities for EC. My only advice is that you STUDY for your tests. It's easy, spend one hour taking the practice quizzes on the textbook website.
He always talks about retarded little details (of theories and talks like they are facts...) His tests are outrageously hard compared to his level of teaching. His teaching level is for elementary schools and his tests are for IV league universities...
On the days i did go i actually learned some coo stuff about astronmy and what not, but i refursed to go to the lab days b/c we looked at the same stuff and it made me fall asleep. he offers a couple of EC that help. I don't remeber handing in any of the hw or even reading the book. i got a B...it's interesting though.
He's a cool teacher that you can talk too and my favorite part is his labs because he would watch the stars and he would put on some reggae to listen and relax too and that was the business
A very nice and helpful teacher. He makes the class comfortable and fun. He will definitely try to answer anyone's questions at any time. Just show up to class and take notes because he can't cover everything that's in the book. But if you want a good grade on the tests, read the book and pay attention to his power points. If you don't do any of th
Coolest teacher alive. He knows what he's talking about and he makes the class interesting. Before class starts he plays reggae music! Not a lot of hw! Tests would have been easier if I studied! I highly recommend him!
Took the night section. Never stayed the entire time, he doesn't care if you leave. Test would be way easier if I actually studied. You really have to not care to fail, he puts the notes online. So if you actually look at them, you'll do fine
Lots of people say it's easy, but it's not easy to me. He is nice, but subject itself is difficult to me although I like that kind of study.
great teacher. knows what he talks about. pretty kool labs and lectures. some of the material is on the hard side but he goes over everything pretty well. if youre looking for the A, i suggest looking at the slide shows he puts online. 90% of the questions come from it. extra credit is easy and the final project paper is pretty simple.
Darryl is a great guy and teaches a great class. Favorite professor at CSM. Study some for his tests and you should do fine. Hes always there to help and hes funny too. Take him!
He's a great teacher! Helpful! The tests are a little hard, it's a lot to learn, but there's no way you can fail. There's extra credit too.
Prof. Stanford is awesome. His class is real chill. He puts reggae music before and after class. He likes to laugh and make his students laugh every now and then. He was real well informed on all the subjects. There are 4 tests and he drops the lowest one. There is a term paper which you write about anything related to astronomy. One of my fav clas
Prof. Stanford is cool. The class material is hard, but he will go through everything very clearly. I think notes and powerpoint are very important. He will post them on his website. The class is enjoyable, but you need to work hard for a good grade. I took astr100 and also its lab. One of my favorite teacher.
this guy is awesome!
The teacher is AWESOME! It's rude that most of the people leave after the break but it's their loss, they're the ones losing out on getting their money's worth. I think people leave b/c they just wanna leave [night class] but it's really really interesting. I'm currently taking the class and actually look forward to it, even after an 8 hour work da
This is by far the best teacher i have had, i just wish you could advance more he has just two other classes of astronomy. If you just go to the class and pay attention which is not hard because what you are learning is really intresting. You dont use the book much you just buy it for the online code pretty much. Easy A if Pay attention.
What a wonderful teacher! He is very interested in the subject and has a lot of cool things to say. He is also really sweet and a great guy to talk to. take his class!!!
This class is very interesting. It's held in the planetarium which has incredibly comfortable seats and the class is easy. I took the night class and he lectures for the full three hours but doesnt care if you leave at the break. There's an easy homework assignment once a week and he gives study guides for all the tests and posts ppts. LOVE HIM
Mr. Stanford is awesome! very helpful, down to earth, always positive energy! i took his class last year, but still go sit in his class for fun if i got time :) you will have fun and learn a lot! HIGHLY (i mean highlyyy) recommended.
Prof Stanford is a great teacher. No easy A's, but he's always available in his office and very patient. He will help you, all that you need. Also, his class is facinating. I learned a lot.
I love this guy, so jolly and and passionate! Mr. Stanford has the best laugh! He doesn't give out easy grades but when I took him he graded on a curve. Science has never been my thing so I'm sure it's easier for others. Even with having very little interest in science I thoroughly enjoyed the class.
To have a class in the planeterium is interesting enough. Mr. Stanford is a nice guy. He is willing to help and answer your question. The class is not easy, not hard. Tests come from powerpoint, but in order to thoroughly understand the slides and get an A, you still need to read the book. He give out study guide before test, which is useful, too.
He's a great teacher! He's very very very passionate about Astronomy & he will take the time out of your schedule to help you.
Took the Astrology Lab, wow what a blast, I've never had so much fun at college. I don't think I've ever had so many conversations with anyone in my life that blew my mind so many times. Stanford and his class are absolutely fascinating. Don't miss!
Charismatic and entertaining big, bearded proffesor who loves the astronomy, utilizes many visual and 3d applets to get concepts across, relates material to cutting edge astronomy developments and rides a Harley. Whats not to like?
One of the funniest classes I've taken at CSM. He is so entertaining, and he won't keep you bored. He is extremely nice and funny and the class isn't too hard (but you will have to try a bit). I love this class and so will you. Stanford is probably one of the coolest profs out there. Maybe I'll take the next level....yes this class was that good.
This guy is awesome. Hes hilarious and his subject matter is so interesting youll learn without even knowing it. You sit in a planetarium for the whole semester and look at stars and planets. I would recommend this class to anyone looking to learn and have a good time at it. Not an easy A, but if you try hard, its very possible.
I took him for the lab and class. Both times great. He wants to help you so do not be afraid to go up to him and ask for help. One of the best professors at csm and the only one probably who you can take for astronomy and pay attention. the class can be hard at times, but TAKE HIM. He knows how to set the vibes in class
Took him for summer session, both ASTR 100 & 101.. He's easy. If you don't understand, he'll be glad to help. Very chill, funny guy. Tries to make class interesting. Plays reggae music, that's a plus. Offers extra credit.. Don't know what else you could possibly ask for.
Professor Stanford is an extremely personable human being. He definitely has a great heart, & loves to laugh. Every class meeting, he will show an APOD, spaceweather.com, lecture with PowerPoints, & use the Chronos Stare Projector periodically. 3 Midterms, 1 Final, & generous opportunities for Extra Credit. He earns my deepest respect! Recommended!
Love Prof. Stanford. He loves to joke around and his class is very straightforward. If you want to take 125, take 100 before - some of the physics stuff he says can be confusing if you've never seen it before! Great dude; loves Astronomy, Harleys and raggae. Illest
Labs were fun. Never took up the full time, usually takes 1-2 hours. Very helpful when you ask questions. have to be present to do labs.
He's a great teacher! He's very very very passionate about Astronomy & he will take the time out of your schedule to help you.
He is a very easygoing teacher. Students have online homework and four tests with the lowest score dropped. Students need to review notes and homework questions to prepare themselves for tests. This is an easy A class.
One experiment every class; students can easily pass the final exam by copying the information from the in-class report.
HIs class is pretty simple. Powerpoint and clicker questions throughout each lecture. Whatever is on the powerpoint is what is on the test. Requires an online homework section. Easy peasy. Recommend if you need to have a GE out of the way.
A chill teacher that puts on reggae before and during class? Sign me up. I took this class over the summer 2014 semester and it is a pretty fun class. Attendance is mandatory because you're gonna lose 10 points on a missed lab and you may make it up on a later date. Other than that, it's an easy A if you keep up with the labs and if you ace final
Take his class! I'm not a science guy, but I love this class. It's in the planetarium, which is always a plus. Hard to get a seat the first few weeks of class. You should not skip this class, if you do you will get behind quickly. The lectures are very engaging and fun. Will answer any and all questions very well.
Mr. Stanford makes astronomy interesting. It's obviously his passion, and the lectures are fun and interactive. Coming to class is pretty important. There's lots of extra credit opportunities that don't involve writing papers! He is a fair grader, and when you have questions he's always happy to help out. I recommend!
I LOVE MISTER STANFORD!!! he is the coolest teacher in the world! hes really nice and funny and he speaks very clearly.
I swear this guy is the reincarnation of Bob Marley because he is very chill and plays reggae before lab. I took ASTR 101 over the summer and it was a very straightforward course: Show up, do your lab, go home if you finished your lab early. Follow these steps and you'll get an easy A. Make sure you show up every day so that's self-explanatory
Stanford is a great teacher and always finds a way to make the class laugh. He is very knowledgeable on the subject so you can ask him almost anything. He drops your lowest midterm and gives plenty of chances for extra credit(there is a limit though.) The book is helpful but used it very little. Not super easy or hard but I definitely recommend him
I've taken every astronomy class Prof Stanford offers except 200. I had been on dismissal from school, taking his general ASTR course and lab sparked my interest in school again. Nice guy, a lot of extra credit opportunities in every course. Just learn your astronomy facts and you'll pass the tests. He's a major I'm still in school today.
Took Astro with professor Stanford. He is a very caring and easy going guy. His lectures are very interesting and tries his best to amaze the class with his projector and telescopes. Always there to help and answer questions. You can tell he loves what he does. Fairly easy class, i took lab and made great friends. Never wanted to miss class
Mr. Stanford is easily one of the best professors at CSM. If you need to hammer out your physical science requirement, I highly recommend that you take this class! Really interesting material, and he makes an effort to make it fun. Lots of opportunities for extra credit, he also drops your lowest midterm grade. He's super funny and approachable too
Hilarious teacher and will try his best to help you with questions your unsure about
Currently taking my 3rd class with him, he is an amazing teacher. Lectures are clear, entertaining and he always has an answer for any question. Very knowledgeable in his field and easy to communicate with. Class is held in the planetarium which is awesome. If taking multiple courses with him buy the iclicker and keep it.
You're here to see if you should take an Astronomy course taught by Prof. Stanford... Do it. Take a class with a Professor who is passionate about the subject he teaches. His lectures are amazing, he answers questions to GREAT detail, often adding more than you asked for in your questions, has extra credit opportunities, and he's hilarious!
How interested he is in teaching the material makes you interested to learn it. I took his night class and it was about 2 to 2 ½ hours of lecturing (in a dark room) and I never fell asleep, which says something. There are three exams and a final and he drops the lowest grade, everything in the exams he either covers in class or is in the homework.
Best Professor I have ever had! Was never interested in science but this really made think about becoming an astronomy major. He is really nice, helpful, and interesting. The class is pretty easy but extremely interesting. Stanford is also funny and makes class fun. There is also tons of extra credit!!
Stanford is awesome! He is so knowledgeable with the subject and is truly passionate about what he teaches. Tons of extra credit and lots of guest speakers come which is awesome! Pretty straight-forward, listen to his lectures(which are good), do the homework(easy), study for midterms(most of your grade) and your golden. Taking 103 with him.
Professor Darryl is really nice and he cares about the students. He's passionate about astronomy and his lectures are really good.
Best professor I have ever taken. I am taking him again in the fall for lab! Tests are a bit tough, but as long as you study the notes you are good to go!
Darryl is an amazing person with an amazing attitude. He's very supportive, nice, fun, and has high tolerance for confused students!
Astronomy was such a foreign concept for me which made me intimidated at first but professor stanford is the COOLEST professor at CSM, he's so laidback, knowledgable, and if you don't understand anything please don't be scared to raise your hand at ask!! Lectures are heavy and the tests are difficult, just make sure to take the time out to study
May possibly one of the most caring and down to Earth person not only as a teacher, but as a role model on how to learn and live life
Super easy, all hw is on quizlet. Test are kind of hard but it evens out. He has a sign in paper as attendance so other friends can sign you in and he puts the lectures on canvas. The planetarium is sooooo cool, totally worth taking this class. And plus hes super funny. Dont need the textbook at all, never used it and didnt need it.
He is nice but this call is the hardest class I've had to date . No joke . I think students might need to take a beginners class for beginners Astrology , although this was the beginners class is was really hard. Homework was heavy and reading was heavy. Good luck .
Super nice and passionate about what he does. Gives a reasonable amount of work and spaces it out so it's not too bad. He has clicker questions throughout the class that count as a part of your grade but not crucial if you miss a class or two. Genuinely good guy and accommodating if you take his class seriously, and his laugh is super contagious ha
I absolutely loved having this Professor. At first I was hesitant about taking Astronomy as a beginner but he made it easy to understand, ask questions and help in any way he could. He is clear, fun, witty, caring and really wants his students to enjoy learning and pass. 10 out of 10 would recommend! Thanx Prof see ya in the summer
I have been taking community college courses for many years and have a UC degree. Prof. Stanford is a gem, one of the best! As other reviewers mentioned, he is laid-back, fun, encouraging, warm, and respects ALL students. No one will feel out of place in this class. Most importantly, he is passionate about Astronomy and teaching. 10 out of 10!
Doesnt respond to emails or questions. lots of hw. not good
Lots of interesting extra credit opportunity and the homework reflects the majority of test questions. The HW is easy and fast (25 minutes 3 times a week) IF you listen to lectures (which are also recorded) and most of the class is an active discussion w/ volunteers which is unimaginably fun. Stanford is truly passionate and a gem of a professor.
Big shoutout to Professor Stanford! He was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He responds to emails quickly and is a very kind and caring teacher. The hw is quite easy with about 30-50 questions a week. It may seem like a lot but as long as you read the material, you're fine. Tests are also easy and he offers extra credit at the end. TAKE HIM!
Don't take this class unless you wanna fail at life.
Lab class was super fun :)
This professor grades harshly but doesn't hold his teaching to the same standard. Class was disorganized with no guidance on how to solve problems, yet takes off many points for one wrong digit or word. It's obvious he doesn't prepare for class, yet holds his students to the highest possible standard when grading. Lecture slides were walls of text.
This professor does not know how to teach. Class was disorganized and he was wrong about facts alot of the time
the class itself is not too bad, all of the lecture slides are available via canvas so if you miss a day you have a chance to catch up. tests are rough, so be sure to study a lot beforehand. he also doesn't have the best hearing so you will definitely need to speak up when responding to questions
Professor Stanford is very knowledgeable and reliable, but the tests are so hard for a GE class. He's a great professor, I just don't match with his teaching style. Tests cover in depth material sometimes not mentioned in lecture. You have to teach yourself the concepts to fully understand some things and do well on exams. Gives extra credit tho.
So I actually took his class in Spring 2001-- so glad he's still teaching! I don't know how I only got a B, the subject matter was really interesting to me and he was a great teacher.
His class was basically like learning a bunch of fun facts about space, then getting tested on it. The tests were pretty difficult, but he does grade on a curve, so it's not so bad. Homework is kinda hard, but as long as you at least skim the reading you're fine.
Stanford is a great teacher, I enjoyed his class lectures, but they can feel a little long at times. Some exams may require more memory than others, I recommend to keep up with homework and review at a later time. I'm sure anyone who takes this professor will have an easy-going time. Good luck.
Professor Stanford is a gem - caring, funny, and passionate about astronomy. The class is manageable with easy homework and tests. Definitely take advantage of unstuckstudy for extra study prep.
Took this class just to fill out my IGETC so i really came into it not knowing anything. He was a cool professor but kinda crammed his lectures. We did a lot of clicker questions. 3 extra credit assignments. I would recommend if you're willing to put in the work cuz its really not true that Astronomy is an easy.
Professor Darryl Stanford is genuinely an amazing and wonderful human being. Every time I would walk into class, he would make me feel happy, no matter what kind of day I was having. The class itself was great. It was lecture-heavy, but the lectures were delightful. If you take this class seriously and study, you will pass this class easily.
Very chill, long lectures, very passionate about what he teaches
Prof. Stanford's class was 3-hour lectures where he just read slides and gave some clicker q's. 75% of your grade comes from 4 exams, covering 4-5 chapters of material each. Most of the questions are random bits of trivia not even covered in class so the study guides don't help at all. I love Darryl. He's hilarious. Don't take his class.
