Take home test are deadely
No collected assignments, no homework, tests are fair. Online was pretty easy.
Tests are sooo hard... but gives u lots of extra credit!!!
Boring Subject, great teacher. You do have to study very hard for the test.
No one knows where the test come from, and the questions each take about 10 minutes to finish. And I spent four hours on the test, but stilled received a 70%.
Makes a boring subject fun, where you can actually apply it to the real world and make sense of it. Im taking him again this semester for Micro. Take home tests are hard, but well worth the study time for an easy A.

He's cool and everything but he's way to biased. I think this affects the way we percieve the knowledge we learn in the class negatively but aside from that i enjoy his comments and his class.
Most of the comments here are true, but he is an excellent teacher. Actually applies what you learn to today's world. Tests are not easy if you don't study, but I'd say 85% chance of a C or better. Will definatley take him for micro. Very friendly!!!
Unclear professor. Doesn't go over alot of the information in the course and is hard to understand/weird accent. Notes on board are illegible.

Funny professor, some difficulty in class, really have to stay awake and listen. Reading and understanding different theories is key to passing this course. I got a C but I barely passed. Nice guy personally, and talks alot of politics and Mcdonald's.

extremely nice and is easy to understand. makes you feel comfortable. DO the extra credit on the first test, otherwise you can't do it again. tests are very very hard. don't cheat, he has ways of catching you and WILL catch you.

Very cool teacher and he uses lots of examples to help you better understand the materials. The tests aren't extremely difficult but they are a little tricky.

It is an easy class where you learn and have a good teacher. If you take good notes you'll have A's on the tests. The teacher just lectures but is very knowledgeable and interesting.

This professor is literally--unorganized...no exaggeration! He will misplace your extra-credit or test scores if you don't ask him about your grades and scores. His tests are very hard, especially the take home tests! read aside from your text book.
By far one of the laziest professors I’ve ever had. He was always late, used a students text to teach out of, and never had any kind of structure to his lectures. All of his tests were prepared by others and were scantron. This guy is a joke. I didn’t learn ANYTHING!! Look elsewhere!
Horrible prof. Knows little. Don't expect to learn anything from him. You have to teach yourself.
He relates the economic theory to reality. he talks about shopping saving and investing. He takes the theory and shows how it is in the real world. He is good man.
Cares very little about his students. I only recall two times that he actually decided to come to class less then 5 minutes late. I also emailed him a couple of times throughout the semester and failed to get a response even one time. He just rambles on in class, and doesn't point out key topics.
Do you want a comedian or a teacher? I have online class and I cannot even contact him. I tried everything and he shows little interest in doing his job. A teacher should teach. Cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen?
Online course very unstructured. The tests are difficult as they relate more to concepts and interpretation of what you read as opposed to facts about what you read. So reading alone will not get you an 'A'. You need to work through all the questions at the end of the chapter and must be motivated.
Great professor. I am a HS student and he comes over to the school. He lectures in a way to open my mind and make me think. One of the best I ever had.
Took him online. Simple class with 4 exams. Exam straight out of the book. Study the notes and you will pass the class. No chatrooms or answering other students. I will take him again for micro.
I enjoyed the macro class. The exams were out of the book and he sent the notes. I just studied the notes and looked at the study guide and passed all the exams. He was very understanding and flexible with deadlines. I am signing up for micro online.

Thorne is smart as hell, and relates the economic theory to real things that are relevant in todays world. 3 tests made up your grade, with an optional group project. STUDY HARD for the tests, and you'll do well.
I highly recommend taking another teacher, unless you capable of teaching material to yourself. Talked more about his personal life than he did about economics. Save yourself time and money and just take someone else.
He relates too much to the outside world. Doesn't teach concepts too clearly. Very vague, but he is very intelligent and was actually one of the only classes I actually enjoyed though. He was always full of sarcastic remarks (in a good way). Fair grade, you have to teach yourself for the tests though.
Valencia keeps this guy around because he has a high dropout rate. Take another professor if you can.

the hardest class i have ever taken, i took his online class, it was only 4 tests with the option of extra credit, for 10 points it wasnt worth it , but i tried by getting a tutor twice a week and reading the book at least 4 hours for the test and passed with a d, find another teacher, tests are cryptic and hard to understand
It took the online version. NO BUSY WORK! The only thing he graded on was 4 tests. Two were take home. This is good if you hate homework and can study on your own. I just read the chapters before taking the tests and ended up getting A's and B's. I would take him again.
Because of his poor communication, I ended up getting screwed on my grade. I should have had a B but got a C instead. He likes to talk, and seems a bit pompous. The class isnt horrible, and he isnt horrible either, but I wouldnt take his class again, and I dont reccommend it to you.
This guy is awesome, talks a lot. But all of his stories are relavent to the material. Doesn't care about attendence but it helps to show up. Just be the 1st to complete your group project.
Economics, especially macro, can get boring and difficult for students. Professor Thorne relates a large portion of his lectures to real life and is very flexibe.
The best teacher Valencia has to offer in economics. 2nd time I have taken the class 1st with Prof. Thorn you can not go wrong with this prof.
EXCELLENT teacher! Attendance is not necessary, but do the extra credit and you might get a grade so high you wont need to take a test or two.

This guy sucks. Do not take him online, he will not respond to emails and not have office hours. I never met him but he needs to understand that online students do not see him once a week so he needs to be speedy with email responses. Anyways easy class, tests are mostly take home

Prof. Thorne is a great guy. He is histerical and is eager to help students when they need it. You will be entertained when you take his class. His exams are difficult, but he helps his students out. There are also a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Online Macro. Book is great. Straightforward and self explanatory. Two tests were take home-all tests multiple choice. Read and you've got it-test questions straight from the book. Don't expect timely responses for emails to Thorne. Or any info at all. But you don't really need it. I will take him for Micro too. Easy!
He is very comical guy that is very well educated in the business world. He'll teach you alot about how to spend your money and has plenty of hilarious stories to go along w/ it. the tests are really difficult but he does allow extra credit essays for each chapter.

Professor Thorne is by far the best teacher I've ever had. He uses real world examples that are interesting and sometimes entertaining to help illustrate the concept he is teaching. Brilliant professor. I highly reccomend him. Take him if you have the means.

Extremely easy online class! No papers, no quizzes, no busy work. If you are a good test taker, this class is for you. He decided to make 2 tests take home from the book. Easy peasy! He doesn't really offer help online, so you are on your own for the most part, but you can look up answers in the book or online. Gives great notes!

took his macro econ class, and he was horrible. he never answered questions, the notes were very informative, but had nothing to do with the tests. tests were about applying theories which he never prepared us for.the guy is a bad teacher, he doesn't explain things the way they need to be for his tests and just expects you to magically understand.

Online Macroeco. No assignments, only 4 exams with "option 1". First & last are done in testing center. Exams 2 & 3 are take home. This class is self-paced within exam deadlines. Prof. is prompt with responses most of the time. Important to keep up with reading. Tests require knowledge of material.
Took online Microeconomics, he was slow with email responses, took 5 days to get a response, sent the wrong notes. Other than that, not too bad.

Daryl Thorne is the hero of economics. This man should be working for congress. Knows all of the concepts about macroeconomics. A great professor. Would recommend.

Well,to start off,this is my second time taking Thorne (both Ecos) and its been a great experience and choice. You will learn Economic's in a fun, enjoyable learning manner. You need the book. He also gives out 2 take home tests, but don't even think about sharing answer's because he WILL find out and strike you out with a FAT ZeRo. :( Don't do it.
Good class. Teaching strategy is very clear and effective. Think twice before sharing answers on his take home tests he is really strict about cheating and he will find out...
Macro. He gets all of his test questions from "discoverecon.com" They are word for word from the multiple choi questions online. Just re-take the practice tests online over and over, you will ace his exams. Dont worry about the math too much. Your book may have an access code in the front. Use it! Let his laziness aid you! Do not expect much.

I got him beucause of the good reviews, but it has been a bad experience so far. His class is not on WebCT this semestre because he is changing the whole MACRO shell. The only means to contact is by email and he DOES NOT answer emails!!! He does not care for his students and it shows!

I took Thorne for Online Macro.The only grades are 4 tests.He gives you the option of writing a 1,000 word paper for 10 extra credit points per test.His tests are written directly from discoverecon.com.I suggest studying the practice questions from the website and you'll do fine.2 of the 4 tests are take home.Easy A!
You do not have to come to the class. You have three test with book and it is horrible. Do not take him!
Do not take his class. His syllabus is outdated, due dates are not clear, and he NEVER responds to emails. I think he writes these reviews by himself. Take someone else, you wont learn.

Thorne is a great professor who connects our real life market situations to what we discuss in class. He is one of those professors who likes to convey certain information through interesting discussion. This is a very beneficial class to take with thorne if you are trying to understand the theory of economics.
Online Micro/Macro. Thorne never replys to emails and leaves students confused and wonder what is going on. It took him 4weeks to finally send out a welcome letter and let us know what we need to do. It is an easy class though only 3 tests 2 of which are open book and you have unlimited time do complete. I wouldnt recommend him though.
Took his class online an I liked it! It takes him FOREVER to respond to his e-mails but he is very lenient. The class consisted of 3 tests..2 were at home open book an he let us turn it in "at our earliest convenience". But they ARE NOT easy. Be ready to teach yourself and literally not have a teacher. It just depends what learning style you enjoy
I took the class online. I don't suggest it at all. I had ALOT of trouble getting a response to emails. When I did get a response it was not always clear. There are only 4 test. They are not easy either. You better hope you get good test scores because that is going to be the only way to pass.

I am half & half on this class. I think it was an easy A, but am disappointed in the class. It did take a few weeks to get the welcome email & the email telling us when to take all 4 tests. Thats it, youre on your own from there. 2 tests were take home, but all 4 shouldve been bc they are difficult. It takes a week or so to get responses to ur ?'s
Darryl Thorne is amazing. He's super funny and making this class mildly interesting. Tests are a little difficult but if you read the chapters and study the stuff he tells you to study you shouldn't have a problem. Awesome teacher. I would recommend him!
I took this course online.There are 4 tests. If you do well in the first 3 you don't need to take the last one. The first test is in the testing center (make sure you study... I a got a 94). The next two are take home and it's easy to get an A in those; just do the test as you are studying. I would definitely recommend him.
I took this course online. Your overall grade is based on 4 tests. 2 open book & 2 @ testing centers. Its easy to pass but be prepared to teach yourself literally because he doesn't do discussions or anything else online. His notes are helpful. Compared to the other Econ teachers he's not too bad.

Thorne is an awesomee professor!!! He's hilarious and down to earth.Tests are comprehensive, so you need to read the book. He gives you a study guide (verbally in class) that reflects EVERY question on the test! Attendance isn't mandatory, he knows you paid for the class already. :P Awesome professor. I took him for both ECO2013 and ECO2023.
This was the WORST CLASS ever. This teachers website was out to date, NEVER responded to his Students, I would NOT, NEVER take this teacher again. BE WARNED..
I took both of his classesiIf you take 2013 with him you can use your first test grade for the first exam in 2023. There's only 3 mandatory tests. Only the second class has homework and its not easy and is an average grade :( He gives tons of extra credit opportunties but he's hard to contact. Overall EASY CLASS and nice guy! I HIGHLY RECOMEND HIM!
Avoid this class at all cost!!! Took online course and he doesn't respond to email, calls, ect. The class was tough for me and I could never get any help from him or the tutor he suggested. I am an A/B student and got a D even with doing the extra credit papers.
I had him for online micro and macro, the tests are very easy if you study and that is pretty much your whole grade... 4 tests. However, you CAN NOT contact him EVER! I tried emailing him and calling him 8 times within a day and got no answer.
He is a very cool an laid back teacher. if your on his good side he will help you out and give you extra time on you homework. he rarly gives out homework and three easy projects during the whole class. I'd take him again!
Mr. Thorne is a great professor. Attendance isn't mandatory and all the work is online. I knew most of the material, so I never went to class, but if you need help, he's always there to help out. He's funny and knows his way around the material. Awesome Professor!
Pretty good first impression on the first day of class. Attendance is not mandatory because everything is done online. Read/UNDERSTAND the textbook and you will be fine.

I took Micro with Thorne. Attendance is not required and he always releases class early. All assignments are online. I don't feel like I learned enough from this class. He often gets off topic (a "brain break") and rants that he doesn't like trees or whatever. It's work to drag a useful example out of him, but he is entertaining and nice enough
Worst teacher ever!!! NEVER replies to emails and is not helpful what so ever. I am taking his online class and the website messed up quit a bit. Class is not over for me yet but I am sure I will fail his class. Stay away from this teacher if you want pass this class!!! He needs to get fired!
I took both micro and macro economics with Professor Thorne last year. I really enjoyed his class and he really knows what he's taking about.. HE IS SOO FUNNY!! The material is tough, but if you read and ask questions when you come to class, then it should be a breeze. Class is optional, but why would you skip when he's funny and gives good insight
I started this class determined to get an A and I'm just hoping I'll get at least a C. The tests have nothing to do with the HW, which take forever to do. I'd recommend memorizing the text to get at least a B. He basically told me to focus on the exams and extra credit only (which isn't worth it) He wasn't helpful at all. I wouldn't recommend him
This wonderful teacher is slow to respond to emails, and gives canned responses to that winch always require a follow up. I even caught him in a lie once and had to file a formal complaint with the school. The Mcgraw hill online text book is a joke and full of errors that you will waste hours trying to figure out what you calculated wrong.
took his micro econ in class and macro econ the following semester online. both were super easy. four tests. all of the tests are online. The 1st and 4th test are timed and 2nd and 3rd are not. the hw takes a little time but it's easy to get an A bc there is a "check my work" button on the bottom of each hw ? so there is no way you can get it wrong
Took his Macro class online. It is SUPER EASY. Just follow the instructions and you will do good. 4 tests worth 20% each of your total grade and like 15 EASY ONLINE HW assignments worth the remaining 20%. If you are really into economics you might not learn much but if you are like me and just wanna pass.. take this class.
Took his class online. He never answered any emails or communicated with the class at all. There's impossible homework (it has nothing to do with the material), plus a few tests. Offers extra credit. I wouldn't take again, get a professor that cares.
Professor never communicates with you. I e-mailed him and he responded a week later. In spite of this, you can pass. You can take your homework more than once and you can check your work before submitting. Easy A on the homework which is 20% of grade. 4 exams at 20% each remain. Not bad!
Took Micro Econ online. 1 assign each week and 4 tests online (2 timed, 2 untimed) Pretty basic, has a lot of formulated math problems in it. It takes him longer to get back to you than what his syllabus says..sometimes a week so get the work done ASAP so you have time to get your questions answered. Watch the dates on the assign. some change
Can't complain about this class. Took macro for bterm online. Everything is totally straightforward. He is helpful and receptive. The only reason I didn't give him a 5 on helpfulness is that he takes EXTREMELY long to respond to emails. Nevertheless, you do get a helpful response eventually. Definitely recommend Prof. Thorne.
Absent professor. No interaction. Do the work, submit assignments, get a grade. If you are new to online learning, choose another professor, doesn't reply to emails in a timely fashion.
Worst online class ever. He never answers email and when he does it is too late. class is setup with online homework that does not tie back to the textbook but the test are hard and not directly from the textbook. no discussions or lectures.your basically on your own. taking this class damaged my GPA. If you want a c then take this class.
Took this class online full summer term, its not as bad as it seems. It's all teaching yourself so if you don't like reading and figuring things out on your own, don't take it. Two timed tests the rest aren't. Homework due weekly. Test 1 isn't difficult the rest are a bit challenging because there's more concept to it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE!!!!! The tests are very different from the homework, the graphs on the homework are different to understand, and the tests are worth 80% of your grade. This professor is of no help in this class. Please, don't make the same mistake I made. Look for another professor!!!
I agree with the previous comments. I spent 9 hours doing an exam, making sure every question was looked over and correct. At the end, I still failed and got a "D". None of the assignments have barely anything to do with the exams and either way, they don't help your grade at all. GET ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!!!!!
If you want to pass, do not take this class. Yes there are only 4 test but they count for 80% of your grade. The homework is completely irrelevant. He doesn't communicate with his students so that makes this online class even harder. Just don't take this class, you'll regret it like I did
DO NOT TAKE THIS ONLINE. I suggest you take it in a class where you can ask the professor questions. The graphs and formulas are confusing at best and the book is boring. I dropped the class and am taking it in person next semester. Professor Thorne was understanding when I needed additional time due to being out of the country for a quiz.
He has almost 0 contact with the online course. He has a general email for questions and would not give me my overall grade. He only post your exam average. Takes a long time to repsond to emails and again has a general response. I'm usually an A student and will be lucky to have a C. Exams aren't easy, homework is.
Professor Thorne is a good professor, this class goes off on tests and a little off of online hw. He does curve test grades, and the extra credit is writing a 1000 word essay on the chapter which are worth 10 points.
Professor Thorne was not a great teacher. The tests were online and really hard. They didn't even make any sense, the book couldn't even help me. Class isn't mandatory all the notes are basically online, he takes forever to email people back. The homework is only easy if you use the book. If your not strong in economics, DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
The tests are ridiculously hard and include questions that are not even from the chapter(s). However, he does curve the tests which allowed me to get an A. I would not recommend if you are a Business major or actually want to learn about Economics.
Great guy. Since I took a hybrid class there is homework due weekly/bi-weekly. He tries to make the class entertaing because micro is more boring than watching paint dry. Easy class, for a hybrid class theres a third party site you do your homework on, but the book helps understand his lectures. He does what he can to help students pass his class.
4 exams that he curves (which saved me), offers extra credit (explained in syllabus), tests are tricky if you haven't done the study plan. 1st test was timed & limited, 2nd & 3rd aren't timed but are unlimited, 4th is timed & limited (4th wasn't timed & limited in my class for whatever reason). Do the hw & study plans; you'll pass with an A
great teacher. its important for him that you understand the material. HW and tests are due online. he is really understanding and will extend the due date if you asked him to.
Despite the reviews I took him anyways & let me tell u.. You cant get a hold of him to save ur life. tests are NOTHING like the hw. They are so hard. Tests that are timed he gives you 60 questions and u have to read paragraphs and u only have 2 hours. Impossible. Advice for prof. If u have ur students self teach, the least u can do is answer emails
The professor is pretty cool, his lectures were interesting and fun, but other than opinion based lectures, he will not teach you whats on the test, and thats where he gets your grade, no assignments or quizzes . you will have to teach your self the information, and then take a test that has absolutely nothing to do with what you covered.
Online class is very difficult. If it's your first time taking Economics or it's not your interest, take this class at campus. Lots of reading, test are hard(only 3), homework graphs are very hard. Overall it's straight to the point, do all the homework, test quiz and course is over (6wks). Got 100% on all homework but Cs on test, got B for class.
Macroeconomics online was TOUGH. The textbook was as dry a read as you will find anywhere, and the online exams have little to do with it. Thorne himself had almost no contact with the course outside of announcements and grade postings. I would not recommend the online course unless your interest in economics is sky high. I escaped with a B-.
decent, uses the online test materials, everything is available to you, you work at your pace for the most part
All of the homework and test are online but you have to read and understand the materials on your own because he doesn't teach much in class. The majority of our lecture time was spent off topic and thus we did not cover much of the material. I would only suggest this class to people who already have a good understanding of the material.
I could have taken the class online and the experience would have been the same. The professor does not teach much, just the general idea and when it's time to take the test, it's impossible to answer right! I would need to memorize all the chapters, which is impossible. Please, do not choose this professor. Everything is done by an online platform
5 week online course, expected to have heavy workload. The homework and quizzes were easy, but exams were so far apart from in general what we did for the course. I pretty much failed all exams even 3 attempts at taking them. Does high curve on test, course site showed B for final. But still ended up with a C in the course.
Oh my goodness, I don't even know where to begin. The only grades are tests, there's some homework but he can cut that out at the end of the semester if its hurting your grade. the only way to pass the tests is to pay for chegg homework help to get the answers. DO NOT waste your time getting the book.. just buy the required online code. GOOD luck.
This course could have been better, if the instructor I chose very unfortunately when I sing up for the class was not as unprofessional and unhelpful as he was. The worst online course I have experienced so far. The instructor almost never answers emails at all, was very absent and unavailable for my tech issues and questions.
If you aren't prepared to read everything at home on your own- do not take his class. His lectures are real-life applications of Economics, not just boring book material. You go to his lecture but everything else for your grade is done at home. His tests and quizzes are online. You can use quizlet for MC quizlets, but you have to study for the test
Prof. Thorne's hybrid class was pretty simple. He gives lectures during class time, then you are expected to learn the material for the homework quizzes, and exams. These make up your grade in the class. His lectures weren't always interesting, but he is very practical and I learned a different way of thinking. Google/Quizlet are valuable assets.
I took him for a six week online Micro class and this has been by far one of the easiest classes I've taken. There was a total of 15 assignments including three exams that were all taken at home. Everything is on quizlet the homework and exams. He allows extra credit if you didn't do well on an exam but it's not needed.
He takes forever to respond to e-mails. But overall class is very simple everything is on quizlet. There was a total of 13 assignments including 3 tests. All of it is on quizlet though. I took it in a 6 week summer course.
One of the worst classes I took, the online homework and the four tests are the only grades. He does not give us anything to help us besides the online work from the book, and the online homework and tests are super hard.
I took Professor Thorne's ECO 2013 10 week class. I used the Knewton Alta system. All homework, quizzes, and tests are online and take home. The class consists of 3 exams, each graded 25%. So, just 75% of your grade are 3 exams. The homework and quizzes are the other 25%. He offers 10 points extra credit by writing a paper per chapter.
The online assignments/tests have nothing to really do with what he says in class. We used Knewton Alta for the online portion and YOU WILL NOT FIND ANY OF THE ANSWERS ON QUIZLET!! Also, if you get a question wrong on the hw it gives you 5 more questions until you get it right. Extra Credit is a 4 page paper and only goes toward tests (10 points)
Never taking him again , I had to use knewton Alta and it was so time consuming you dont learn anything and it was too fast paced in a 6 week course. Doesnt answer emails
All I have to say is be prepared to do his homework all night. I felt like I lived in the tutoring center dealing with this class because the online portion is THAT HARD. The test is even worse. Our class was the first to use the new online program this semester called Knewton Alta so NOTHING IS ON QUIZLET!!!!!
Great Professor, Highly recommend! Always will answer his emails and phone calls looking to help you. I made the right choice by taking this course.
The online course was a nightmare; the information is unclear, you go to take a test after doing 500 homework and practice chapters for it to court 20% of your grade and then the other 80% is base on exams. Must of been the worst course I ever took in my life. Never again
Does not teach at all, have to use textbook (online/free) to learn all the information. There is only homework and tests throughout the course, hw does not matches up the test at all. Two attempts for each test through Knewton (have to pay). Extra credit is offer but didn't even grade them, so my 89.87%, didn't round to A. Basically ur one your own
Worst teacher ever. I took the course online due to covid-19 and I wish I hadn't. Not once did the professor engage with us. Sent messages throughout the semester and only got one response, ever! Also, he gives chances for extra credit but I never saw it actually applied to my grade. If you want to end up teaching yourself economics go for it...

I took his online fast track Macroeconomics. Maybe because it was a fast track course there wasn't any homework just 3 exams. You could almost work at your own pace except for the exam due dates. Lots of reading. Optional homework and exercises that really assist in the learning process. Could've done better if I applied myself more.

The tests were HARD. Study well with the book and highlight everything you deem as important for each of the tests. He replies well. Taking him online, you don't get much to know about him as a professor, but the curriculum is difficult so pay attention and if you still don't understand look up YouTube vids/use a tutor for extra help.
10-week online course with the amount of information you need to learn isn't the only reason you shouldn't take this class. That's beside the point, I knew Thorne would be a pain to interact with from the first day of the class through his unhelpful feedback on some textbook issues I had. Overall bad 'teacher', I was basically teaching myself.
Simple class, 3 tests with around 14 assignments. Everything is online regardless and he answers phone calls pretty often. Very reasonable man and will help if you have any troubles. I am currently in the class and hopefully end with an A.
Made class fun with funny examples to relate to us. Mad chill and great guy

If you like a chill online class with assignments and exam due at end of each month this is the class for you. The assignments and quizzes are very easy to manage and I love that the provided material is actually useful. I did not have to message him this course but he would send out emails to students via canvas. This prof is great. Take him.
Mr Darryl is great, he doesn't assignment a lot of work. The assignments are also very flexible, you have plenty of time before deadline. The assignments itself is easy, you provide a lot of material to help. All you have is homework and quizzes that go with it. And everything is multiple choice. 100% recommend, easy A if you do all the work.
