An absolutely amazing history teacher! He's super passionate about the subject and his lectures are very rarely boring. overall an interesting and friendly guy. test weren't too difficult if you studied properly, and he has a couple essay questions on them which he completely prepares you for ahead of time. basically he's a great teacher.
Great Instructor. Knows how to keep his students interested in learning. Review for test in order to pass. For final you need to write an essay on a topic he chooses out of four; he lets you know the day of the final.
Excellent instructor. He explains the material in a fun, animated, and interesting manner. His exams are very fair and place an emphasis on both multiple choice and short essay questions. The lecture is organized such that it is easy to take good, organized notes. Highly recommended.
If you have never been able get into history it's because it wasn't taught well. If you just can't stand history you will learn to appreciate it with this professor. No dates no names, all he does is "tell a story," and you will be interested. I took world history twice, after this third time I could finally say I learned something!
Great Professor. I took him in the Summer... so it was very easy. He lectures you take notes, review the notes get an A. Homework not that hard. The book was easy reading only use for homework. Test are right off the lectures. Lets you drop your lowest grades including the final.
Best Professor At Mission! His class is not the easiest but he gives us every opportunity to get an A in the course. Overall, he is a nice man who will make you interested in the subject. Before, taking his course I hated history but now, I love it. Pretty easy if you study! I must say, that the tests were a bit challenging but he makes it easier!
Good class overall. I am getting an A so I think it is pretty easy. He makes it so that idiots can understand history. Tells us what will be on the tests before the test and for the final he is going to tell us what the topic will be. Attendance is mandatory, however, you will enjoy coming.
If you never liked history before, you have never taken Phares. He will seriously make it so that you will get an A in his class by dropping tests and being lenient on the grades. He is awesome as a Professor because he really knows how to get the material out there. The class is not so easy but at the end you should end up with at least a B. Great
Phares is the most informative history professor that you can ever ask for. I though his final was going to be tough but he made it sooooo easy. Very inspiring Professor and although the material is hard he will make it easy for you to grasp the subject. Drops your lowest test score and gives you extra points for attendance/participation. Thanks!
GOOD CLASS OVERALL! EASY A AND GREAT LECTURES=A+. GOOD LECTURES=A+. EASY EXAMS=B. THANKS PHARES FOR INSPIRING TO MAJOR IN HISTORY! THE CLASS WAS AWESOME! I retook this course after failing it and got an A with Phares because of his great lectures!
I miss his class so much now that it is over. I will be taking History 12 with him in the spring because of how great he teaches the material. I would not say that it is an Easy A because I had easier professor but he definitely makes the class so that it is very likely to get an A. He seems to take everyone opinions into consideration! THANKS
I always loved history but I must say that after I have taken Phares's course I love it even more. Phares is the best Professor I have ever had and I have taken many history classes before and he is my favorite professor. Always cheerful and wants his students to succeed. Will go as far as dropping an exam of your grade so your grade goes up a lot
HISTORY WAS MY WORST SUBJECT EVER AND I ENDED UP WITH AN A WITH PHARES AND I OWE IT ALL TO HIS LECTURES. LET ME TELL YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT PHARES. ALTHOUGH, HE IS EASY YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR PART AND COME TO CLASS AND DO THE WORK OR ELSE YOU WONT PASS. I DID HE DROPPED ONE WHOLE TEST OFF OUR GRADE WHICH RAISED ME FROM A C TO AN A. GREAT PROFESSOR!
Not a good teacher, has attitude, don't take this professor. Run away and never return. Find a better and useful professor!!
He was a good instructor and his classes are always the fist to fill up because of his helpfulness. Students at Mission know that this is the Professor to take for History! Although, he might have an attitude at times it is only when you do not follow the rules. Not the best but not the worst! Pretty Easy Class! You will learn a lot.
O.K. class, if you want to get history out of the way take it with Phares but if you really like the subject than I recommend taking this class with someone else. He has a very warm heart but does have a bit of an attitude but will always help you out. Incredible Beyond Belief!
This guy will make you get history by creating the best lectures. In my opinion he is not an **** but he certainly is not my favorite Professor. Take him for History 12! The Best!
He is an awesome Professor but he can get agitated if you break the rules but if you do all your work then you will definitely get an A in the class. The class is an easy A if you come to class and LISTEN TO THE LECTURES and then you will get an A. I took this class with three of my friends and we all got an A in his course. He is an a whole.
You cannot help but to get anything less than an A in the class becasue he teaches the material very well. I did not even buy the textbook, B.S. my final examination (ESSAY) and ended up with an A. EASY A! SHOW UP TO CLASS AND SHOW INTEREST AND HE WILL NOTICE! Great lectures but if you break the rules he will tell you off! Can be bipolar!
I took him at Pierce College fast pace program and ended up getting an A with ease. He is a good instructor but can go a bit lighter for a fast paced course. All in all he is a great instructor with a heart of gold. He favored certain students so get on his good side. You might not learn much but you will walk away with an A.
The subject itself is very difficult (a lot of memorization) but Phares makes it so simple. Honestly, I have not purchased the textbook nor have read the textbooks yet and have gotten A's on all the tests so far. All you have to do is go to class and take very good notes. You will definitely walk out of his class with at least a B if you do this.
Easiest class you can ever take at Mission! Professor Phares is always helpful and all you really have to do is show up, take notes, study those notes, and then just take the exams. He gives you like 100 bonus points (participation), exams are simple and he goes as far as to drop one of the lowest tests. I loved his class! I took it fast paced.
Really easy class and I am glad that I am registered for it. I thought I was getting myself into big trouble because I failed it before but I was wrong and am getting an A going into the final examination week. Really helpful dude but do not get on his bad side or he could be a big a-whole.
I always loved history and I am glad that I am taking the course with D'Art. He is really a great man that brings life to the class. If, you just listen to his lectures you will end up getting an "A" because he really hints you about what the tests are going to be about. Tests consist of essay so you basically write about B.S. and you can get an A.
He is probably the only professor who made history fun! Thought it would be another boring history class but he made it come to life.. and I can't believe I remember those events w/o my notes! If you HAVE to take history, Prof. Phares is the one!
I did not buy the textbook and I still got a grade of an "A." The trick about his tests is that there is an essay but your best bet is to simply write in the essays what he tells you in class. Take notes very well, bring in a laptop! He is extremely kind and helpful and you really do not have to do anything but read the NOTES! Easy A. Nice Guy
Love him! He is amazing when it comes to teaching but not much of a people person. He knows how to bring out the information with ease and will guide you through history. I got an A! Thank you Professor Phares for the great experience. All you really have to do is your homework (which he assigns rarely). Easy A.
I always had a fascination in history and when I took his class, my interest in history increased. He is very clear on lectures, and in fact he is a really good story teller. His tests are a little tricky mostly on the multiple choice part but the essays are easy as long as you take notes. I really recommend this teacher if you're taking History.
I liked this class so much, i took him for all the history classes I needed. He is very clear with his lectures and breaks it down for you. He makes his lectures come to life and i found it very helpful. 3 tests, a midterm and a final. If you do great on the first few tests, you don't even have to take the final! Love this professor!
He knows his history. I was not interested in his class to begin with, that is why I did not enjoy his class very much. But he grades fairly and explains everything that will be in his tests. If you want an A, you need to work for it. I recommend him if you like history.
One word for this Professor and that is awesome! He makes a tough subject like History easy to understand! Very inspirational and gives you everything you need to know before the actual tests! He is delightful.
How many times is a class easy, with helpful teacher, and insightful? To begin, the textbook is just an inexpensive AP book! Every class you leave with awe! He has such an amazing character and charm! I hated US history before this class, now I love it! He's hot too, reminds me of House!
Personally, I found his class to be both easy and insightful. Show up to the class, do your work, and you have locked in your A. The comment before mine obviously is angry because he/she does not show up to class. Phares is extremely passionate. Just do what he asks and you will be golden. Not an easy A though. You have to know what you are doing.
Phares is awesome. I hated history before his class. I took him for HIstory 11 AND 12 and got an A for both semesters. He's a great teacher. Pay attention, do the reading and homework assignments and you will pass. He's amazing and yes, he is really HOT.
This teacher is a real jerk! He expects too much from his students. Study 3 long essay questions, but he'll randomly pick one. Really boring lectures. Lectures has nothing to with the Tests. Final is a 1500 word essay.
Under rated
This professor is good! He is not easy at all. The reason some people say that they think is easy is because is such a good teacher,'cause he will make you really understand History and love it!He really mean it about plagiarism and he makes you think about the real fact of history not only what the hist books says.
really good professor! you need to pay attention in class if you want to succeed. he is hard if you do not read or pay attention. he is easy if you do. he is a fun teacher to take over all.
He is an excellent professor, not a week went by that we did not laugh. He makes History fun. You must be an avid note taker, do the reading, and be there every day and on time. He really challenges you to make connections and think critically. His exams consist of essay and multiple choice questions.
Amazing, best I've ever had. I learned more in his class than any other history class EVER! However this is NOT a bird course. So if you're looking for an automatic 'A' it's not going to be here. This class is not for slackers. If you're a hard worker you'll be fine if not look elsewhere. Reading the chapters and notes regularly defintely helps.
Phares is a really cool Professor and I am glad he came to LAMC as he probably taught everywhere in the district and out of the district. He is easy but only if you keep up with the material in a timely manner. Also, make sure that you go to class as ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! Don't take him online like a friend did as he is way better in class.
Great teacher! Very interesting. Make sure to study for his tests and quizzes. Do not hesitate to ask him questions he will help :)
no! tests are based ONLY on notes, and you NEED to take good notes to pass. doesnt go by book. you NEED to know history to pass, and it isnt just memorizing facts, which im good at, so i found it difficult. and idk why so many ppl said he was super amazing..i found his class to be quite lame. or maybe its b/c im not into history
I do not recommend this teacher at all. Unfortunately he is really the only one that teaches this course at this school. His class is very difficult. He dictates and expects you to memorize everything. I worked my butt off and barely passed with a 'C' after a bunch of extra credit work. He's fun as a person but teacher wise not so much.

Hands down one of the best professor I ever had. If you are planning to take a nap or text your friends during his class, then you should look for a different class. very fair on grading if you work as well,he funny and very knowledgeable. Make sure you record his lecture!

I took phares because several of my peers swore by him saying he was so easy and an enjoyable professor. if your looking for a class to slack off in, do not take this course. yes, you do learn about history, but it is only due to the extensive homework he assigns. He assigns two 50 question multiple choice tests, and 3 written essays.
He is my favorite teacher at LAMC. Just coming to class, w/out doing the hw can get u a B. He is very thorough about the material & seems very interested & excited 2 teach what he teaches. He can be really funny & makes it exciting. I have taken 3 of his classes just bc I enjoy his classes so much & my major has absolutely nothing 2 do w/ History.
Hey is an excellent story teller and can make eveything seem interesting. You must work for your grade though. This professor is the best I would love to take him again.
one of the best lecturers i have ever had! you have to take his class! book is necessary for homework, if you do iton time then the lectures will be easier to understand!
I had him for Hist 11. His lectures were interesting. He gives you multiple choice exams and essay exams (not on the same day). They're not hard if you study, and he gives you the essay questions to prepare for ahead of time. Lastly, the final is multiple choice and an essay. I got an A in the class even though I bombed the final essay portion.
Phares is a good teacher. You absolutely need the textbook, which you need to study and read thoroughly but also take lecture notes because he uses both. The written tests are probably the hardest because you don't know which subject he'll choose, but if you study reasonably well you can pull off an A. He's a very smart and fun teacher.
Wasn't too interested in history before taking this class. Glad I took it. Reading and attendance is MANDATORY. Make sure to read and you'll pass the class. Also take as many notes as possible. Not extremely easy, but worth it
He's a great teacher who honestly cares about his students. Curses often and is hilarious. Just do the work and study for the tests and you should be fine. The textbook is required and you will use it consistently.
I took Hist 12 with him last semester, and I liked it so much I chose history as my minor. Phares is the best teacher I have ever had, I highly recommend him, even if you hate history. He is an amazing teacher, and he even wrote a letter of recommendation for me. He is well worth the time and effort.
He is very knowledgable and interesting. However, his class is hard. If you plan to slack off don't take him.
He is amazing proffesor, he explains everything in story so its easier to understand, he throws in some curse words here and there to grab our attention and make class a bit more fun. To top it all off he's a total babe!
I have nothing nice to say. He didn't give extra credit to my course section. He also doesn't sympathisize with those who are having a hard time keeping up with him. He can make you sound really stupid, because he will look at you like you are one if you don't answer a question right in class. Tests are hard, exept the essays.
PHARES is the funniest, most exciting professor at Mission. He is so cool and extremely hot. His class is on a low curb and he will help you when you need it. I'm definitely taking another one of his history classes (even though I don't need one) just because I loved him so much. <3
By far one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's funny and really seems to enjoy talking about History and making light jokes. He swears quite a bit but it's all in good nature. He's also very helpful and very clear about how much work you need to put in for a good grade. You definitively won't be able to fall asleep during his lectures.
i hate history.i never liked it. this professor made it very interesting and i learned a lot. had trouble because i hate history and have always struggled with this subject, so i recorded his lectures and made it through. textbook is a great help. and so is he. everything is based on his lectures so take great notes but i highly recommend him.
What an amazing professor! There are very few professors that can lecture the way that Professor Phares does. He is very knowledgeable, it is evident that he is passionate about his job. I learned so much from him and wish I had the time to take another one of his classes. Although his class is challenging at times, you will love it.
I was not looking forward to having to take a history class at all. After his class, I decided to take another history class with him just because of how fantastic he is.
Really fun class, by no means is it easy. He assigns homework regularly. If you're looking for an easy A look elsewhere because you have to work for this one. However, if you want a challenging, fun, and want to actually get something out of a history class take this one.
all his tests where straight from the book so it means you have to read alot dont even bother paying attention in class none of his lectures help you on the tests i hated his teaching methods
He is not easy, but he is very clear on what he wants. I am not a History major but i found this class to be very understanding and informative. He is honestly, a good professor.
This class was very interesting. But not an easy A for sure.
He is an amazing teacher! You will learn so much in his class. However, you need to make sure you keep up with the reading and his leactures because they will benefit you a lot in the tests. Take this class if you are willing to put a lot of effort into it. It's not an easy class to pass. He expects a lot from you but you'll be a better student.
Very clear and to the point. i thought history 11 would be boring but he really made it intresting and fun. His personality lets you stay awake and laugh during the class! Its not difficult if you pay attention during class and do some light reading.
This class definitely is not an easy A at all. Homework is from the book and will help you on the tests if you do it. His lectures help if you actually listen and take notes on what he says. Tests are difficult if you don't study but the essay part of the test is easy. Makes you feel amazing when you can write and know what you're talking about!
He's really nice and he'll tell you what you need for his assignments/tests.He responds quickly to emails and has a lot of office hours if you need help. Most of the answers for the book homework is IN THE BOOK, usually in the back. His tests are bases on his lectures so recording them is useful.Tests are easy JUST STUDY hard.Very strict w/no phones
Really cool professor, understanding, informative, and doesn't bash you if you try to answer in class and get it wrong. Overall Very Cool
He is amazing professor, he explains everything in story so its easier to understand. This Class Was Not Easy But Yet Interesting and Fun. Homework & test Not Easy If You Don't Take Notes In Class Or Catch Up On Reading. In The End I Loved It But Had To Work Hard TO Pass :)
He is the best teacher I ever had. He loves the material and explains it so well. Try not to miss any class because every class is full with information. Also make sure you take knots from the lecture, because it will be in the test.
Oh my ! hands down! by far the best professor at mission college! I love his teaching. I cant believe how he make History so fun like storytelling. Amazing!
Professor phares is an amazing teacher who is dedicated to his students success. His lectures are very interesting and easy to understand take notes record the lecture read the book do the homework participate in class sit in front. it's not that hard after all you are in college. I learned soo much in his class it feels great!i wish him the best!
He is one of the best professors I have taken at Mission. I highly recommend him. However, this class does consist of a lot of work. He assigns HW every week that consist of reading a chapter or sometimes two and answering questions about it. His test are all commutative. With all this said it forces a student to get something out of his course.
Best history professor ever! I added this class to summer school, I was a bit hesitant, but glad I ended up in his class. You must attend this class every day if in summer school. Do the homework. He makes history so interesting, but his tests are a bit hard. Make sure you take good notes, most of his tests are based on his lectures. Take him!!
Professor Phares was a great teacher and story teller. I enjoyed every class and I learned a lot from him. Yes, it is not very easy class but if you read and listen the lecture, you will definitely get a good grade. I wish I could take History 12 with him. Great teacher!
Professor phares is an amazing teacher I took his class last spring, he makes history very interesting he is knowledgeable and respect his students. Pay attention, sit in front, participate in class, do the homework,go to office hours and you will do well.test are fair it's college so study well. Great personality, passionate about teaching.the best
Professor Phares is an amazing teacher. Caring, knowledgeable, and passionate about teaching. I took his class last spring and it was a great experience. Sit in front, record the lecture, participate, go to office hours and u will do very well. Beautiful personality! Love his amazingly dreamy blue eyes! I wish him the very best!
I love Phares. He is the best history teacher period. If you don't hate yourself, take him. Otherwise take someone else.
This is not a good teacher I wouldn't recommend him I suggest students to take another teacher in another school.
What can I say? This guy is very passionate about history, and makes it very interesting. His lectures are awesome. That being said, his tests are challenging.Half of the test is based on multiple choice Q's while the other half is based on written Q's,and the written part is what hes most interested in. He also gets you to think critically which is goo
By far the best class ive taken in a while not onl is he clear but he makes class fun and upbeat not to mention you actually learn alot!!!! 10 out of 10!
He is a great professor! There were not bullet points and note taking is independent. His tests are fairly easy. Just study and take good notes. Record his lectures because it helps a lot. Took him for winter session, and would take him again. To all history majors: take him!
Probably the only reason I enjoy going to class right now. He doesn't just lecture he allows your to speak. He's funny and very helpful. For someone just getting back to school after a few years away this teacher makes going back a breeze.
Very fun class, he keeps history about America very interesting. Take good lecture notes and do the homework every week, and also MAKE SURE YOU PARTICIPATE EVERY CLASS if you don't you will lose out on points. i didn't even have to take the final because he drops the lowest test score =D
He is one of the best professors at Mission College. Even though history is somewhat boring he makes it fun and keeps you interested. He makes you get involved and gives easy extra credit points if you do so. He's open to clarify any questions you have. You will enjoy his class with laughter, knowledge, and an A+!!!
Professor makes History Fun and the class interactive. You would love history after taking his class and if not at least interesting about History itself. I would recommend D'art to anyone, An Easy "A" if you willing to put in the work (He Drops the lowest Test Grade BTW)
I honestly hated history prior to this class but he truly made it interesting! Definitely not an easy A, but doable. Make sure you record his lectures because his tests are mainly on his lectures. This was the first time in my life that I actually learned history rather than just memorizing useless information!
Very passionate about history and very good storyteller! Make sure you do the outlines during the chapters so you don't feel lost in the lectures. Tests are fair, most of the content is based on lecture, drops lowest test grade too, so attendance matters! Very funny professor & super helpful (:
Awesome professor, very clear, take good notes and you won't have a tough time on the exams. He's hilarious. I learned a lot in his class. Homework is back up credit. Participation is credit.
His lectures are incredibly interesting. He has a way with telling stories you can tell he is passionate. Make sure to record his lectures. Those definitely helped me! 4 exams and homework assignments. Do the work and you will pass! Take his class and you will not regret it I promise!
I loved this class. I'm taking hist 12 because he's such a good professor. He makes the learning the material so easy by bringing history to life. If you genuinely want to learn, take this class. The civil war era has never been more interesting.
History isn't my best subject but trust me he is a tough grader. I'm gonna have to take it again thanks to him -_-
He is a no nonsense teacher, if you think you can skip class, or cheat or not study, better eat those Wheaties. Lectures are not boring, class passes fast, no sleeping. Be on time, don't miss class, participate, and be prepared to memorize a long essay for the final. Two words to describe his class, "NO QUARTER"
I'd highly recommend Professor Phares. His lecture are unlike any other. Very interesting and well put together. His exams are straight from the lecture and he provides an outline of what he will be lecturing on.
Love this guy! He will make History very interesting. I highly suggest for you to record his lectures because he will put out a lot and very fast, but then again I had him over the summer. Overall, he knows his stuff and would take him again. Take him!
He is great ! Hated history untill I had him. I actually look forward for his lectures, He's hilarious and makes history fun . Hands down a teacher I'll recommend.
He is a great lecturer, he will not put you to sleep. Be there every day EARLY, or you will get marked down. Participate and get the poker chips. You need at least 10. Study a lot and be prepared to write essays. That is his final exam. a 750 word essay. That is after a 450 word section essay, 1 hour for each. If you miss three classes, you're out.
Phares Is an awesome professor take him. Here's how to get an A: 1. Don't be LATE or absent it will hurt you drastically can't stress it enough 2. DO the HW!!! and participate! 3. If he allows it record his lectures and listen to them before the exams (I can promise you that you'll get an A on exams this way) 4. Most important put in EFFORT!
Professor Phares challenges his students to really think critically throughout the semester. Do expect to earn your grade and be ready to participate in class discussion. Professor Phares lectures are really engaging and encourages to share your thoughts with everyone. Amazing professor!
Professor Phares has an ability to bring history to life through his lectures. Make sure to record his lectures to study from for his 3 exams he gives. Get a front row seat(easier to catch the pocker chips) and expect to participate. I would not take any other professor for history other than him! He dosnt give grades he makes you earn them.
He's a professor that really makes you work for your A. He pushes his students to think critically about the material and not just memorize it. You have to do the work in order to pass. His class is a little tough but he is fair. He gives you an outline of every lecture and lets you know what important things will be on test.
If you need to take a history class I would recommend taking him. He pushes students to critically think and analyze historical events. YOU HAVE TO RECORD HIS LECTURES. He explains history to students in a way where you can understand it. Study for his essay questions on the tests. DONT SKIP CLASS. Participate because he gives points for it.
By far my favorite professor so far. His powerpoints are interesting and his lectures are great. His tests are relatively easy, a few short answer questions and one short essay (he tells u the prompt ahead of time). Participation matters and the textbooks are required. He made history interesting for me!
He is one of the best teachers Ive ever had. I loved his class he had very interesting lectures and made his class very fun and interesting. You will have to listen and pay attention and study for his class but if you listen and pay attention to his lectures you will know exactly what will be on the test. I highly recommend.
One of my favorite professors at LAMC. On the first day of class he'll teach you an effective learning/note taking style that will actually be beneficial when it comes to studying. I wish I had learned that years ago. Some may say he's tough but all he asks is for you to be punctual and actively listen and participate. I respect and appreciate him.
Prof. Phares is hands down one of the best college teachers I've ever had. He in very interactive and tells history like a story, touching on it from multiple different perspectives. There aren't many homework assignments + no essay. The tests can be difficult, BUT if you simply go to lectures and listen + learn, you should do great. Recommended!!!
His teaching style & demeanor is my benchmark in teaching quality. His methods makes sense. Just a few things to note, read the last topics discussed before every class and participate in discussions to get poker chips. His assignments are all in essays. He doesn't give leeway for coming in late, so try to not to. Overall, an awesome teacher.
This guy taught me History better than all my high school history teachers; because he actually cares about your learning experience in not only his class, but college. Truly caring and always asks for student feedback to improve his teaching skills. You must invest time in this class. You have to work for your grade. Very approachable.
I took him for history 11, 12 and all I have to say is he is one of the best teachers in Mission college! I enjoyed every lecture he gave us. He made the subject so interested and I actually learned! If you need or just want to take the class I totally suggest it! Make sure to be on time and study! Take notes of the stories and read all the chapter
This professor is absolutely incredible! I never in my life thought I would look forward to attending a history class. He clearly followed his calling to teach. He's a great story teller which is why he makes his lectures so interesting. A good teacher will grade based on the effort you put in, so if you're serious about learning, take him.
Be ready to laugh! He is hilarious!!! Tests are multiple choice and essay/short answer. Be ready to read tho! Besides the lecture (the easy part) you have 2 books to read and compare. Takes a lot of your time but manageable. I hated history.. he made me love it!
One of my favorite teachers at this school. He makes you work for your grade but you'll feel so accomplished and will learn so much. Take lots of notes but also enjoy his awesome lectures. Assignments take time and exams are demanding but if you pay attention and really try, they won't be too difficult. Make sure to collect chips for participation!
Has become my all time favorite teacher/professor of all time!! His lectures are amazing!! You'll love it! His power points have little to no words so you really have to pay attention to what he says. I really enjoy history so It wasn't a struggle. He gives you a run down of the test during the lecture too. Going and reviewing material is the key!!
This guy was amazing at lectures . quality professor, clear about what he wants . Funny class cause he's so passionate about it but makes everything so interesting. Teaches you other sides of stories you might've heard . You do a few quizzes Homework every week But nothing too hard .Just write notes . Trust me you'll actually LEArn in this class
If you're looking for an easy A this is not the class for you. However, his lectures are amazing and he's hilarious! His tests will be pretty daunting at first (multiple choice + a few "essays"), but he does give you the prompt for the longer essay ahead of time so make sure to write that down and study the answer until it's memorized!
Turns boring history into funny enjoyable stories. Downside is tests are written and multiple choice. Get ready to read a little bit and have a few hw assignments and be sure to take good notes to study for later. (i would forget to take notes cuz i was to busy listening to his lectures)
Overall one of the best professors I have had, and overall he is a pretty funny guy and a great teacher.
A great professor! He lets you know what is going to be on the test so you don't get caught off guard. His assignments are tied to the class so don't avoid them.
Amazing lectures but you need to take good notes. Tests are based off lectures. Participation and attendance are apart of your grade. Tells your the outline of the test so you know what to expect. Gives an outline to what he teaches and gives you questions you should be able to answer after the lectures which are helpful to study from.
I took Professor Phares for History 11 and 12 and he is one of the best professors at Mission. His lectures are amazing and entertaining, he makes history fun! Taking notes is a must, he does not read off powerpoints so you need to pay attention. Paticipation is really important in his class, as is attendance. They are apart of your final grade.
Professor D' Art Phares has amazing lectures. History classes tend to be super boring to me, it was nice to have a professor who made an effort to keep the lecture interesting. Grade is heavily depended on tests, homework, and attendance. Do the homework and study for the tests!
The dude is awesome, and the fact that he cusses is amazing. Really clear with what he wants and how he wants it. Makes the class easy to understand and the grading is easygoing.
Prof. Phares is awesome! He makes learning history fun and exciting. His lectures are extremely interesting and he uses great visuals to help you learn the material. His unique technique to hand out poker chips to students who participate in class encourages students to participate. I really recommend him. Take lots of notes & you'll be ok.
Attend class, the tests are based off the lectures. He's exceptionally thorough and if you don't understand him he's willing to help you and give you resources. He gives you chances to pass the class. He wants students to actually learn and looks for ways to do that. If you want a professor that actually teaches, take him.
If youre someone who takes really good notes then you will do good in this class. If not, its hard to pass. Everything is based off notes. He does talk a little fast so make sure you write what he says during lectures or else it will be hard to pass
Be ready to listen and take lots of notes. Tests are multiple choice and written. Very heavy on lecture. Detailed lectures. Very interesting. Knows what he is talking about.
I took this class this semester and i am not a good note taker so i was a bit challenged by the heavy notes you need in order to pass this class but he offers extra credit for participation so i focused on getting points every day and doing all my homework to make up for my low test scores . He gives alot of information in the lectures and you work
So I just had to take some time to do this because professor Phares deserves it, keep in mind I hate history but he made it fun. He is really great in lectures he will let you know of some questions that will be tests, you have to take good notes. He taught the class how to take cornell notes and Im so thankful because its made my life so easy!
Very intelligent, intense, slightly disorganized, helpful in office hours. He curses a lot. Teaches how to take notes. Teaches how to memorize. Explains things extremely well. He's intimidating and critiques students in front of class which can be embarrassing. Gives good feedback. Tests are not easy, but doable if good at writing. He's funny too.
Professor Phares is one of my favorite teachers at LAMC. He makes historical events come to life. Pay attention and you will have a better understanding of history. Be prepared to read and take notes during lecture. There are informative videos on canvas that go along with each lesson that will help you to pass his class.
For this online class at least, there was no lectures. Alright, now that I've got your attention, there really were no online meetings, but he did host a week full of zoom meetings so that students could ask questions and get a feel for the class. However, there were a LOT of downloadable PowerPoint lectures, just watch them and it's a lot easier.
